SeaWorld, set in sunny Orlando, Florida, is a world-renowned theme park and a zoological marine park. Surrounded by Discovery Cove, and Aquatica, it falls under the SeaWorld Park and Resorts Orlando umbrella.

A Bit of History

Two years after Walt Disney opened his resort, the Magic Kingdom, SeaWorld followed in December 1973. In 1989, Anheuser-Busch ( Busch Gardens ) purchased the park. By then, Central Florida was a sought-after holiday park destination.

The executive team at Busch revamped SeaWorld into a ride and show-based theme park. In 1998, the flume rollercoaster Journey to Atlantis opened to tourists. Subsequently, the Kraken, 2000, and the flying coaster Manta followed in 2009. Manta won the Theme Park Insider Award for Best New Attraction.

Discovery Cove opened in 2000, and Aquatica opened in 2008 following the success of the original park.

SeaWorld offers several great ways to explore this affordable marine and theme-based park. Before you jump into your car, consider purchasing your tickets online. It’s so much easier and allows you to navigate special offers at your leisure.

Single tickets are ideal if you have a limited amount of time. Always look for limited-time discount offers. 

Guests can purchase single-day, two-day, or three-day passes starting at $94.99. 

Annual Pass

For those who live nearby, an Annual pass is a great opportunity. 

Annual passes come in bronze, silver, gold, and platinum cards, each offering incentives. The platinum card is great if you want to entertain kids all year long.

Fun Card 

Fun Card i s a limited offer and has excellent value. This card is valid until December 31, 2022, and good for SeaWorld and Aquatica Orlando.

Vacation Packages 

Booking a SeaWorld Hotel Package is a wonderful and popular choice to experience the park.

Florida and SeaWorld are premier vacation destinations for many reasons. If you are traveling from far, make sure you plan. Coming by plane, use one of the many Florida airports .

Orlando International Airport is only a 15-minute drive .

Tampa International Airport is only a 1 hour and 15-minute drive .

Miami International Airport, the route is a 3 hour and 24-minute drive .

Travel Directions 

Please note Florida has many toll highways and restricted roads.

Leaving Universal Studios , downtown Orlando, Sanford, Deland, and Daytona.

 I-4 West, ramp exit #72 to Beachline ExpressWay/Fl-528/Airport. Traveling on Beachline, follow International Drive exit #1. Turn left at the traffic signals (you’re on International Drive until you reach the second traffic light; turn right onto Central Florida Parkway. SeaWorld is on your right.

Leaving Cape Canaveral , Cocoa, and Titusville Area on Beachline Expressway FL-528, head west to International Drive exit #1. Turn left onto International Drive and turn right on Central Florida Parkway at the next traffic signal. 

Leaving the Tampa and Lake Buena Vista area, take I-4 heading east toward Orlando and exit at #71, the SeaWorld exit. Stay right on the Central Florida Parkway as you exit; the SeaWorld entrance is on the left side. 

Bus Service from Disney World

There are several bus options you can take. Use this handy Lynx bus schedule and ticket information to plan your trip.

Leaving Disney, catch the Lynx #50 bus. This bus goes from downtown Disney to downtown Orlando and stops close to SeaWorld.

It’s difficult for families to choose which attraction to visit first. SeaWorld provides entertainment and activities for all age groups, from toddlers to teenagers. Always check height requirements and restrictions. 

Rides for the Adventuresome

Let’s look at some of the best attractions at SeaWorld Orlando. 

High Surf (2023) 

Riders will definitely get wet and experience the thrill of a lifetime. This ride looks like a spectator will get a front-row seat on a Pacific surf.

Infinity Falls™

Infinity Falls™ is a rapid raft that rides through geysers, fountains, and waterfalls at a dizzying speed. Before exiting onto solid ground, wet riders will have undergone a rough-whitewater adventure that tumbled them through impossibly dangerous chutes and plummeted a steep drop into churning water. 

Journey to Atlantis

Keeping with the getting soaked theme, Journey to Atlantis® takes a journey through the lost city of Atlantis. Guests plunge into the mysterious waters below, snaking through dark waterways and endless surprises. (Note: may be closed due to weather.)

Ice Breaker

IceBreaker™ is 2022’s newest roller coaster and voted #1 for Best New Theme Park Attraction. 

Aptly named for its Arctic summits, guests travel at full velocity and launch into four airtime flights. Screaming is encouraged as the coaster dives into a 93-foot vertical drop at a 100-degree angle.

Once riders catch their breath, the Breaker risks all, does a vertical tophat and executes a series of complex twists, turns, and airborne manoeuvres. Extra panties are recommended. 

Mako® is currently Orlando’s fastest and tallest roaster. Riders can expect mind-blowing 73 mph speeds and reach 200 feet heights in an eye-watering blink. When the ride isn’t climbing, it dives and plunges around numerous turns as riders surge into shipwrecks and reefs. Named after the fastest known shark cruising the ocean, Mako imitates this lethal animal’s every move. 

The good news about this hair-raising rollercoaster is that you see every death-defying twist as it hurls toward you. 

This legendary sea monster, the Kraken, is the only floorless roller coaster in Orlando. Sailors dreaded the mystical creature (a giant squid) spawned in the ocean. Riders are strapped into open-sided seats to exasperate the thrill. Further, the ride crests a 150-foot precipice only to plunge and screech through seven inversions while traveling at a mere 65 mph. 

Manta® is a trendy ride at SeaWorld. It simulates flying underwater like a manta ray. Riders get a thrill when they dive head-first into a nosedive. The Manta track is famous for its super smooth running track and full throttle power of 56 mph. Riders also get to encounter numerous manta species before boarding.

Sky Tower is a relaxing capsule ride for riders still breathing after the above mind-blowing rollercoaster experiences. From the 400-foot perch, Sky Tower (1974) has become an iconic symbol for the park. 

Enjoy the breathtaking Orlando skyline when you reach the top. 

For Younger Visitors 

We’ve listed some of SeaWorld’s best attractions for younger visitors below.

Sesame Street Land™

We all grew up on Sesame Street , and SeaWorld Orlando invites visitors to explore the famous street filled with learning and giggles.

Children and adults will enjoy Hoopers Store and Big Bird’s Nest. Along the way, don’t be surprised to meet up with Elmo, Cookie Monster, Abby, and the Sesame Street Gang for adventures and interactive play.

Located along Sesame Street, these activities include rides on Big Bird’s Twirl ‘N’ Whirl, Cookie Drop, Elmo’s Choo Choo Train, Rosita’s Harmony Hills, Rubber Duckie Water Works, Slimey’s Slider, Super Grover’s Box Car Derby. There are many shops and fun places to eat.

Sunny Day Carousel

No amusement park is complete without a carousel. Sunny Day Carousel is classic and colorful; merry-go-round families can enjoy together. Small infants can enjoy the ride on bench seats with supervision. 

Flamingo Paddle Boats

Paddle boats have always been a favorite outing with families, and SeaWorld offers affordable 20-minute rides suitable for people of all ages (not for infants).

Turtle Trek® 

Turtle Trek® is an exhibit that introduces the visitor to the vulnerable habitat of sea turtles and their delicate balance of managing their survival.

This window into the turtles’ lives explores hatching, the incredulous dash of the freshly hatched youngsters toward the dangerous ocean. Their lives are in peril at every moment of the journey.

Manatee Rehabilitation Rescue

At this behind-the-scenes rescue center , visitors explore the plight of these delicate creatures. The 5-acre rescue center rehabs wildlife (turtles, birds, manatees, and other marine animals) and treats injured or orphaned animals.

Pelican Preserve

Home to rescued pelicans, this preserve hosts permanent guests unable to return to their habitat because of their injuries.

Pacific Point Preserve 

Sea lions are comedic acrobats that enjoy swimming, surfing the waves, and soaking up the sun. They also enjoy making a ruckus, especially at the feeding point. Pacific Point Preserve is a great way to get closer to these adorable mammals.

Dolphin Cove 

Dolphin Cove is one of the world’s largest interactive dolphin environments. Visitors go nose to nose with the aquatic showstopper dolphins and watch them slice effortlessly through the water. Visitors have an excellent underwater viewing platform.

To see dolphin calves interact with their mothers, visit the nursery.

Empire of the Penguin®

Empire of the Penguin® is a must-see exhibit of five penguin colonies in chilling temperatures. Visitors love the comical waddle of penguins on land and their flawless underwater swimming skills. Explore this exceptional habitat and learn.

Dine with Orcas and Orca Underwater Viewing

SeaWorld is perhaps most famous for introducing thousands of visitors to Orcas. These formidable mammals leave a lasting impression. From the underwater lookout, viewers can see how remarkable these creatures are.

Dining with Orcas is a bucket list opportunity to witness killer whales and their unique personalities. This introduction leaves a powerful impact on diners.

Feeling your hungry family at SeaWorld can be expensive. SeaWorld offers an eat-free package that might work for your family. Another option is the All-Day Dining Plan . The dining plan allows you to gorge on one entree, one side or one dessert and a beverage every 90 minutes at these restaurants:

Seafire Grills serves a limited breakfast menu starting at 11:00 a.m. and is part of the All-Day Dining Deal.

SeaWorld is a fantastic place to make contact with nature, even if it’s protected under glass. The entire family will find a favorite SeaWorld animal experience as you encounter penguins, otters, dolphins, orcas, turtles, and many other sea creatures.

Once you’ve enjoyed the thrilling roller coaster rides or got wet on the Manta, enjoy yourself at a restaurant and relax.

But what’s important to make your trip enjoyable takes a bit of planning—SeaWorld is an expansive 200-stimulating acre theme park. While adults can make the trek on hot days with younger children, the distances from one event to the next can be overwhelming.

If you plan your trip with some helpful hints, the whole family will enjoy the experience. 

Remember to:

• Lather on the sunscreen
• Wear comfortable shoes
• Choose lightweight clothing
• Drink plenty of fluids
• Remember to bring your admission tickets
• Have a plan

Buy Tickets in Advance

If you’re lucky enough to have SeaWorld at your doorstep, consider buying a member’s pass or purchasing upgrades to make the experience more memorable. Children under three can enter the park free.

Always look for ticket discounts online and save up to 50% on single, two, or three park tickets. 

While purchasing tickets ahead might save you money, it saves precious time, and you avoid long lineups.

Pack Appropriate Clothing

The last thing you want is to carry impractical stuff to SeaWorld. However, a light sweater is a good idea. Once you are inside an exhibit or aquarium, it can be uncomfortably cold. Remember, you’re visiting penguins who live in Antarctica. 

To mimic the natural environment for these captivating animals, the park lowers the temperatures to a balmy 32 degrees Fahrenheit.

SeaWorld has two water rides that are such a fun experience. Either wear quick-drying clothing or pack light rain gear (though you’ll still get wet). Microfibre towels are great for drying off children.

The park also operates body dryers. They’re not free.

Remember to reapply sunscreen after wet rides. The Florida sun is powerful and can ruin your vacation if you or your children get heat stroke or get sunburns.

Check the Weather

Florida is the Sunshine State. This means visitors should prepare for extreme heat and humidity, and thunderstorms. Weather can change quickly.

Knowing how to plan your activities around the turbulent Florida weather is sound advice. While you can escape the worst weather by ducking into a cover exhibit, it’s best to pack accordingly.

Orientate yourself and your family by getting a map and understanding that SeaWorld has many winding pathways that, if you don’t know where you’re going, can mean additional mileage on your feet.

Decide on a Plan

Making a plan is vital to ensuring a successful park experience. Rides are busier in the mornings. Evenings also see an increase in ride lineups when everyone has returned from attending the afternoon performances.

Popular ride destinations like Mako or Manta are on everyone’s bucket list. Most guests also enjoy taking those rides during the day and at night for opposing experiences.

Having a plan and a contingency plan is a great way to make the most of your SeaWorld Park experience. The program should also include a muster point destination in case your family gets separated.

SeaWorld understands that to enjoy a day at their park means bringing several items. This is especially true for families with small children.

The park has two rental lockers options. You can lock your belongings in one location for the low fee of two dollars or two hours. A multi-use locker costs ten dollars but provides convenient access at each ride. (You must move every two hours.) These convenient multi-lockers require a seven-digit code to access the locker location and a four-digit code to open the locker. 

When you purchase tickets online, ensure that your charge doesn’t include Quick Queue.

Quick Queue Passes

Quick Queue passes are an additional cost but allow guests to move ahead in the line. Many rides will have a separate lineup for these holders. Don’t waste valuable time by standing in the wrong lineup. Some rides like the Kraken offer Quick Queue guest entrance at that exit gate. 

Come EarlySeaWorld Animal shows and performances are world famous. These events fill up quickly and have limited seats fill up quickly.

Expect to arrive thirty minutes before the show starts. Dolphin Adventure and Orca Encounter are top-rated attractions. Unless you want to get wet, avoid the splash section. 

Experience Animals

SeaWorld offers its guests a once-in-a-lifetime experience and encourages interactions. At the Stingray Lagoon, guests can gently touch stingrays as they drift past. Guests can further that experience by purchasing food and sharing it with sharks, seals, and sea lions. 

Note that these animals have specific feeding times. If you have your heart set on this experience, check the schedule. 

Unique Tours

SeaWorld prides itself on its endeavors for animal conservation through education. Guests can enjoy an extraordinary experience at Dolphin Encounter, Penguins Up-Close, or enjoy sea lions and beluga whales. These unique experiences cost as little as $19 a day and will leave a lasting impression. 

Other Discounts

SeaWorld respects military staff and teachers and offers them reduced entry prices.

Free Preschool cards are available to Florida residents for children under five, see the online link for promotion and expiry dates.

Group tickets are a great way to save on entry and meal tickets for families and businesses.

Parking and Alternative Rides

SeaWorld charges $25 to park. If you’re staying at a nearby resort, ask if they offer a free or inexpensive shuttle option. Some hotels charge a small fee. If you plan on parking, book your parking ticket online in advance. 

SeaWorld and its sister venues are a great holiday option that offers a unique experience for every family member.

Family Friendly Rides & Attractions at SeaWorld Orlando

With the opening of two new coasters in Ice Breaker and Pipeline, SeaWorld Orlando started promoting itself as the “Coaster Capital of Orlando”, trending itself away from it’s former marketing as an animal theme park.

Even though SeaWorld offers an amazing lineup of roller coasters and thrill rides, it still has a significant amount of rides and attractions that are considered to be “family friendly” and more applicable for small kids.  There is even one specific area of the park in Sesame Street Land that is completely designed and themed for kids.

In this article we are going to outline the Family Friendly Rides & Attractions at SeaWorld Orlando.

Sesame Street Land

Turtle trek, orca encounter, dolphin adventures, sea lion & otter spotlight, dolphin cove & dolphin nursery, stingray lagoon & feeding, shark encounter.

Sesame Street Land at SeaWorld Orlando officially opened in 2019 in the area formerly known as Shamu’s Happy Harbour. This exciting new land brings the popular children’s television show to life with a number of highly themed rides and attractions as well as interactive play areas and meet-and-greet photo opportunities.  

Along with the rides and attractions, there is also the fun and upbeat “Sesame Street Party Parade” which features some of your favorite characters including in Big Bird and Elmo.

Rides and attractions at Sesame Street Land include:

TurtleTrek is a very unique attraction at SeaWorld Orlando where the guests start off by viewing huge aquariums of turtles, manatee and a host of other creatures from the sea. 

The main part of the attraction is located within a 360 degree dome projection theater where guests will follow the trials and tribulations of “Naya”, a baby sea turtle.  This seven minute 3D show is a wonderful experience that shows the trials of life as a sea turtle.  

The Orca Encounter first opened in late December 2019  and is SeaWorld’s newest version of the new killer whale experience. This version of the “Shamu Show” is structured as 30-minute educational presentation about the orca’s as the ocean’s most powerful predator.  

According to SeaWorld’s web site, the “Orca Encounter will leave you with a deeper understanding of these magnificent animals and will inspire you to care even more profoundly for the wonders of our natural world”.

SeaWorld’s current dolphin show is called “Dolphin Adventures ” which is a very fun show that runs several times a day.  Several bottlenose dolphins provide plenty of entertainment while the trainers educate the audience on how dolphins survive and thrive.

Dolphin Adventures is one of our favorite shows at SeaWorld Orlando and is a must see attraction for any first time visitor.

Guests learn about the lives of California sea lions and Asian small-clawed otters in the Sea Lion and Otter Spotlight .  This funny and campy show is both educational & entertaining.  Offered multiple times a day, this is one of the most enjoyable shows at SeaWorld Orlando.

Watch the dolphins swim and play at two separate venues: Dolphin Cove and the Dolphin Nursery.   These attractions are available throughout the day but the best times to visit are when the trainers are interacting or feed the dolphins.

Located in the Key West themed area of SeaWorld Orlando is the Stingray Lagoon & Feeding .  Guests get the chance to not only get up close with stingrays but also to touch and feed them (three feeding trays are $10). 

There are more than 100 rays in this lagoon with several babies that are located in a tank that is separate from the main group.

Guests will enjoy a walking tour through learn more about Sharks and other marine life in the Shark Encounter .  After visitors first enter the attraction, guests will explore a number of aquarium tanks that hold a variety of marine species.

The best part of the attraction is the shark tank itself.  Guests board a moving walkway which literally passes through a tank containing a number of different sharks.

The SkyTower is one of our favorite attractions at SeaWorld Orlando.  The fully air-conditioned capsule climbs to 400 feet in height and is one the original attractions since the park opened in 1974.  Visitors will enjoy get a birds eye view of SeaWorld and on a clear day you can see as far as Disney’s Magic Kingdom and EPCOT as well as Universal Orlando and downtown Orlando.  

There is a small fee for the Sky Tower but annual passholders are free.

Other Attractions for Kids

For those kids that are bit more of a daring, the following attractions provide a bit of “thrills” while still maintaining a family-friendly theme.

Infinity Falls

Infinity Falls is one of the newest additions to the SeaWorld Orlando line up of rides and attractions.  It is an exhilarating a five-minute river raft ride that features a 40 foot drop (the tallest for  water ride) after a ride through white water rapids.   

What’s amazing is that you get to the top of the drop by elevator – yes, your entire raft is elevated and it is a really cool experience.   Plan on getting wet when riding this attraction.

Journey to Atlantis

Journey to Atlantis is a hybrid water ride and roller coaster.  Riders board an 8-person boat and sail off to find the the lost City of Atlantis. 

After climbing to the top of the temple for a 60-foot drop which is the best part of the entire ride.  Plan to get soaked as you splash down right in from of the temple for all to see.   

During the final part of the attraction, riders enjoy a short roller coaster blast into another pool of water.

Where to stay when visiting SeaWorld Orlando?

Local area hotels book up quickly so it is our recommendation that you get your reservations as early as possible.  Crowd levels are typically higher than usual due not only to this special event, but also school holidays as well as “Spring Break”.  And in the spring time there are always large conventions coming to Orlando where many hotels block off rooms for the convention attendees.

If you are planning on consuming a number of adult beverages, we would highly recommend you stay a hotel within walking distance or with a transportation service.

The Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld

The  Renaissance Orlando at SeaWorld  is one of our favorite hotels in Orlando and it is our “go to” when we are visiting SeaWorld. The Renaissance is literally across the street from SeaWorld and within walking distance.  The hotel features 781 rooms & suites, a resort style pool with splash pad and water slides (R AQUA ZONE), fitness center, full service spa and extensive dining options.

Nightly rates range from around $150.00 per night to more than $350.00 per night depending on the time a year.  There is a $30 per day resort fee plus a 6% resort tax on top of a 6.5% sales tax.  It is an Official SeaWorld Hotel which provides guests a number of SeaWorld benefits including guaranteed admission and complimentary parking at SeaWorld, dining and merchandise discounts and complimentary access to the SeaWorld Rescue Tour.

The Residence Inn Orlando SeaWorld 

The  Residence Inn Orlando SeaWorld  is less than a mile from the front gate.  This hotel features family-sized apartment-style suites with kitchens and is one of the more affordable hotels in the SeaWorld area.  Features include complimentary breakfast, 24-hour fitness center, resort pool with hot tub, barbeque grills and a sports court.

Hotel rates range from around $125 per night to more than $250 per night depending on the room type and the date of the stay.  There are no resort fees but there is a daily parking charge of $15.oo to go along with the resort and sales tax.

The Residence Inn is also a Official SeaWorld Hotel so guests receive a number of theme park benefits along with their stay.

What made me fall in love with SeaWorld Orlando?

SeaWorld was one of the first theme parks I visited as a child , so it will always have a special place in my heart.

It was one of the few parks families could budget modestly for and still have a great time.

How was SeaWorld started?

The SeaWorld franchise started in 1964 in San Diego, California. It was founded by George Millay, Milt Shedd, Ken Norris and David DeMott.

The franchise was originally planned as an underwater restaurant, but eventually blossomed into an aquatic amusement park.

In 1968 SeaWorld became a publicly traded company , which allowed for expansion into the Ohio and central Florida areas.

In 1973 SeaWorld Orlando was established and officially began its journey into the theme park that we know and love today!

Now that we have the main details out the way when it comes to your SeaWorld Resort Orlando visit, let’s go through some of my best tips for you!

1. Get there early

Arrive 30 minutes prior to park opening. It’s the best way to maximize your day , especially if you’re trying to do it all in one day.

2. Dress appropriately

Florida weather is mostly hot and humid except for the beautiful months of December, January, February, and March.

3. Find quiet, shaded spots

The vegetation area by the Dolphin Encounter and near Turtle Trek are two, usually serene, sitting areas.

AND one of my favorite places to relax in SeaWorld.

4. Go during the weekdays

To avoid the frustration, I suggest avoiding holidays, the weekends, and the summer. This is the time that both locals and tourists flood the park.

Try to get to SeaWorld early and park in the regular parking section. The parking situation at SeaWorld isn’t bad.

Wherever you end up parking, the walk to the front gate shouldn’t be too terrible.

Before you head out to Aquatica Orlando water park , I want to equip you with the best tips!

• Arrive early
• Bring sunblock, towels, change of clothes, sandals (water shoes or flip-flops)
• Use restroom before attractions
• Visit during the week to avoid large crowds
• Leave valuables at home

• Great place to learn and visit marine life up close

Cons of SeaWorld Orlando

• More family-friendly rides and attractions throughout the park are needed to make it an all-day destination.
• It would be nice to have more indoor attractions and shows to enjoy to combat the Florida heat.
• Better food options are needed outside of the festivals.
• Another full-service restaurant would be great.

Awesome! You’re coming at the perfect time as the new Sesame Street area will be in soft opening which means you guys will be able to experience this highly anticipated addition to the park. You should also make sure you guys can see as many animals as possible. It really makes the time at SeaWorld lots of fun and the kids really love it.

I also recommend riding the Antarctica Penguin Ride…this will be an instant hit with the kids.

All You Need to Know About Visiting SeaWorld Orlando with Kids

Our three kids are obsessed with thrill rides and sea animals, so a trip to SeaWorld Orlando was inevitable for us.  I had reservations about visiting the park, but I was pleasantly surprised by everything the park has to offer.  Over the last couple of decades, the park has grown from more than aquariums and animal shows.  It’s now a mecca for rollercoasters and thrill rides and home to some of the most unique rides in all of Orlando, Florida .

In this post, we’ll break down all of the attractions and ocean-themed fun by age group so you can see just how much SeaWorld Orlando has to offer!

Getting Around SeaWorld Orlando

The rides and attractions of SeaWorld Orlando encircle a lagoon at the center of the park. 

If you’re traveling with little kids, you may want to head to Sesame Street, first.  There are signs posted around the park showing you how to get- how to get to Sesame Street.  Just past the entrance (when you see the first coaster), head right down a path and follow it to Sesame Street Land.

If you’re a mission to tackle some of the most insane coasters in Orlando, you’re going to want to head left.

We suggest hitting up Sesame Street Land, or a few of the coasters, before heading to the animal shows, encounters, and aquariums.

It’s easy to do a lot of unnecessary walking at SeaWorld Orlando- since the attractions circle a lagoon, you’ll have to backtrack if you don’t do the attractions as you come to them.

The Animals of SeaWorld

Thousands of animals call SeaWorld Orlando home.  Here, you can get up close and personal with dolphins, whales, rays, octopus, sharks, penguins, fish, and more!

Be sure to take a look at the daily schedule to see what shows and learning experiences are available during your visit.  Choose from Dolphin Days, Orca Encounter, Sea Lion High: The New Class, Pets Ahoy, and Ocean Discovery.

Dolphin Cove

Dolphin Cove is a 700,000 gallon lagoon that is houses a pod of Atlantic bottlenose dolphins. This is one of the largest interactive dolphin pools in the world.  If you pay for a dolphin feeding/encounter, it will take place here.

Pro-Tip:  Dolphin feeding tends to draw a large crowd, so plan on going first thing in the morning.

Dolphin Nursery

Is there anything cuter than a baby dolphin?  We think not!  The Dolphin Nursery is home to new dolphin mommies and their calves.  

Pro-Tip:  This is one of the most popular attractions in the park.  It is located right near the entrance of the park.  If you’re interested in visiting, stop by right as you enter the park.  If the area is closed off that means there’s a dolphin in labor or one that has just given birth.

Jewel of the Sea Aquarium

Located next to the Journey to Atlantis ride, this aquarium boasts jellyfish illuminated by an interactive backlight.

Manatee Rehabilitation Area

Each year countless manatees are injured by boats and ships, or malnourished when their food source is wiped out.  Florida zoos, aquariums, and SeaWorld Orlando take in these gentle creates to rehabilitate them and release them- when it’s possible to do so.  

In the rehab area, you may be able to wish these creatures a speedy recovery and learn how you can help keep them safe.

Manta Aquarium

Our favorite spot to watch the marine animals was the Manta Aquarium.  We watched in amazement as thousands of graceful animals danced in front of our view.  

Pro-Tip:   Hit up this aquarium before or after you ride Manta.  The aquarium is air conditioned and is a great spot to take a break for the Florida heat.

Pelican Preserve

Located near the Manta Ride and Manta Aquarium, these outdoor exhibit is home to several rescued pelicans.

Antarctica Empire of the Penguins

I’m going to be very honest with you- we were really disappointed with this exhibit.  We waited in line for 40 minutes to see the penguins…and it was literally just tank with penguins.  Perhaps we should have done our research, because we though that it may be a ride (considering the line).  

Don’t get me wrong, the penguins were a lot of fun to watch, but the line was really long considering it was just another aquarium.

Shark Encounter

Surround yourself by sharks, barracuda, eels, and venomous fish in the world’s largest underwater acrylic tunnel!    The 60 foot tunnel is an absolute must-see!

Stingray Lagoon

Stingray Lagoon is another popular animal attraction.  This habitat showcases over 200 stingrays- some of them as large as 5 feet in diameter!  Don’t miss the opportunity to feed and touch these gentle creatures!

Turtle Trek

This habitat offers underwater viewing rooms that give visitors an up-close-and-personal view of turtles.  Follow a sea turtles journey their sandy nest to the ocean.

Wild Arctic Habitat

Learn all about belugas, walruses, and harbor seals in this freezing cold habitat!  

SeaWorld Orlando with Toddlers and Pre-Schoolers (+ Family Rides)

Believe it or not, there is plenty to do with young kids at SeaWorld Orlando!  Although our boys (age 5) weren’t tall enough for the rollercoasters, they still had loads of rides they could experience in Sesame Street Land.

Abby's flower tower.

With a bit of magic from Abby Cadabby’s wand, you’ll be sent up, up ,up in a colorful flower pot on Abby’s Flower Tower.  This ride gives you great views of the hustle and bustle of Sesame Street.

 Height Requirement:  42″

Big Bird's Twirl 'n' Whirl

Hop into one of Big Bird’s nests and twirl ’round and ’round on this family-fun ride!  Riders control the speed of the spinning with a steering wheel at the center of the nest.

Height Requirement:  36″

Cookie Monster's Cookie Drop!

Buckle up and hold on tight as you bounce up and down on Cookie Monster’s Cookie Drop!

Height Requirement:   42″

Elmo's Choo Choo Train

All aboard Elmo’s Choo Choo Train!  Be on the lookout for butterflies, caterpillars, and Twiddlebugs on this family-friendly ride.

Infinity Falls

Climb aboard a circular raft and prepare to get drenched on this family water ride!  Explore tropical ruins filled with breathtaking waterfalls, surprise geysers, and flowing fountains before plunging down one of the tallest drops of its kind into a pounding waterfall!  Infinity Falls is the world’s tallest river rapids attraction!

Height Requirement:   42″- 77″

Pro-Tip:  Plan on wearing clothes and shoes that will dry easily if you’re going to ride the water rides.  Use a dry bag or rent a locker to keep your items dry.  Hit up the ride early in the day for the lowest waits- and time to dry off.

There are family dryers available for an additional charge.

Journey to Atlantis

This family-friendly flume rollercoaster transports you to the mythical paradise known as Atlantis.  You’ll explore dark passageways in the sunken city before being catapulted 60 feet out of the city gates into the waters below.

Height Requirement:  42″

Pro-Tip: Try to go early in the morning or late in the afternoon for shorter wait times- this is one of the most popular rides at the park!  Avoid queueing up for the ride after one of the shows lets out- people tend to catch a show and then do the ride since it is close to the Whale and Dolphin Theaters.

Rubber Duckie Water Works

If your little one isn’t up for the larger water rides, or isn’t tall enough, they can still have fun splashing about in the Rubber Duckie Water Works- an outdoor splashpad.

Slimey's Slider

This is my favorite ride in all of Sesame Street Land (who am I kidding…it’s my favorite in the entire SeaWorld Orlando theme park!).  This exhilarating swoop and swivel ride spins, rocks, and slides!  

Sunny Day Carousel

This classic ride is perfect for young kids and family’s alike. 

Guests under 42 inches tall must be accompanied by a supervising companion (at least 14 years old) standing next to the rider on the inside of the Carousel to ride. One supervising companion (at least 14 years old) per child under 42 inches. Hand-held infants are only permitted to ride on the bench seats.

Pro-Tip:  Ride the carousel during the Shamu show times for the shortest wait times!

Super Grover's Box Car Derby

If your kiddo isn’t quite tall enough for some of the larger coasters (listed in the section below), they’ll be happy to know there’s a kid-friendly coaster in Sesame Street Land!  Super Grover’s Box Car Derby is a family-friendly coaster full of hills, twists, turns, and small dives!

Height Requirement:  38″

SeaWorld Orlando with Big Kids and Teens

Our adrenaline junkie daughter was super stoked to see how many thrill rides there are at SeaWorld Orlando.  The rollercoasters there are  insane – some of the best in Orlando!  If you’re older kids like thrill rides, this is definitely the place for them!

Rides for Big Kids & Teens

Ice breaker.

The Ice Breaker is SeaWorld’s first launch coaster.  It features four airtime filled launches (both forwards and backwards!) and a reverse launch into the steepest beyond vertical drop in Florida ! The ride has a series of exhilarating twists, turns, and airtime hills that will send your heart racing.

Height Requirement:  54″

Designed to mimic the mythological beast that terrified sailors for centuries, Kraken is Orlando’s only floor less roller coaster .  Riders feet dangle as the zoom across this exhilarating coaster at heights of 150 feet! 

You guys!  Our 9-year-old is obsessed with this ride.   Mako is the tallest and fastest rollercoaster in Orlando!   This hyper coaster is known for it’s high speeds, deep plummets, and racing turns.  Named after one of the ocean’s fastest sharks, this coaster hits speeds of 73 mph.

Soar like a manta on the only flying roller coaster of its kind in Florida !  The ride will send in in a head-first, face-down nosedive before you are sent spinning, gliding, and flying like a giant manta ray.  

Pro-Tip: The lines are the shortest during the first hour of the park opening.  You cannot take anything with you on the ride, so unless you have someone sitting this one out- you’ll need to rent a locker to store your stuff.

Food Options at SeaWorld Orlando

No outside food, beverages, or coolers are allowed to be brought into SeaWorld Orlando , except you may bring a bottle of water or a refillable water bottle.

Breakfast is available at the Panini Bistro Cafe until 11 am.

Visiting SeaWorld Orlando in the Winter

On our first family visit to SeaWorld Orlando, we visited in January and it was  freezing!   Without warning, every single rollercoaster was closed and we were told that due to the temperatures, most of the animal shows were unavailable.  We got to see the dolphin show, but all of the other animals were tucked away elsewhere.

We’ve been to SeaWorld Orlando a number of times (thanks to Gramma and Grampa who live nearby and hold season passes which come with several guest passes and discounts!), and we’ve found it to be a park that the entire family can enjoy.

Read on to learn more about the best rides at SeaWorld Orlando!

On your visit to Orlando, Florida, the theme park capital of the world, you have many amusement destinations to choose from.

While Disney and Universal Studios draw major crowds from all over the world, both animal lovers and thrill seekers will find a special experience at SeaWorld Orlando, for a fraction of the cost.

With nine rides (plus Sesame Street Land), three major shows, and a host of animal encounters, SeaWorld combines the excitement of an amusement park with the awe of an aquarium or a zoo.

Below, we’ll share everything you need to know about the rides, food, and entertainment at SeaWorld Orlando!

SeaWorld Orlando Rides

Roller coasters, penguin trek (coming in 2024).

Height requirement:  42” Thrill factor:  3-4 (our best guess until it opens!)

Last time we visited SeaWorld, I was confused because the penguin ride didn’t seem to be on the map or the mobile app anywhere. Well, turns out the ride I was thinking of, Antarctica: Empire of the Penguin, closed in March 2020 and never reopened.

But there’s good news! SeaWorld has reimagined the experience, and you can look forward to a family-friendly, indoor/outdoor roller coaster to open in 2024: Penguin Trek!

Hop a snowmobile and go on an immersive expedition across icy Antarctica, ending in my personal favorite place in SeaWorld, the penguin exhibit!

Height requirement:  54” Thrill factor:  5

The newest attraction at SeaWorld is a surfing-themed, stand-up coaster with lots of airtime. That’s right, I said a stand-up coaster!

The bottom of this surf coaster is designed to look like a giant surfboard, so you can really feel like you’re riding the waves.

The big kids and I got to ride Pipeline shortly after it opened in 2023, and we loved it!

This ride is perfect if:  You want maximum thrills!

Manta is a unique and intense coaster experience where you lie face down as you soar through several hills and loops. You’ll feel like you’re a manta ray, swooping and gliding through the ocean…except you’ll be up in the air screaming!

This ride is perfect if:  You want to try a face-down coaster!

Release the Kraken! This is an exciting floorless coaster with a sea monster theme. Expect several inversions and a lot of adrenaline — a must-ride for coaster enthusiasts.

This ride is perfect if:  You like suspended coasters with lots of loops! 

Mako is the tallest, fastest, and longest roller coaster in Orlando. Riders will get an exhilarating ride experience, with steep drops, breathtaking speeds, and weightless moments.

Named after the mako shark, the coaster is designed to mimic the smooth, swift movements of a shark through the ocean’s currents. Thrill-seekers will not want to miss this one!

This ride is perfect if:  Your favorite type of roller coaster is one with steep hills and heart-stopping drops.

• Ice Breaker

Height requirement:  48” Thrill factor:  5

Ice Breaker is an Arctic-themed roller coaster with multiple launches and a reverse launch. The coaster’s design, with its sharp peaks and steep drops, mirrors the jagged ice caps of the Arctic.

My big kids like Ice Breaker, but they think the other coasters are more fun, so if you’re short on time, you could skip this one.

This ride is perfect if:  You want to experience a backward-moving coaster!

Water Rides

• Journey to Atlantis

Height requirement:  42” Thrill factor:  3

Imagine if a log flume and a roller coaster had a baby. Journey to Atlantis is a hybrid between a coaster and a water ride, with lots of hills and drops and a big splash at the end. 

Fans of storytelling rides will enjoy journeying through the mythical city before the big finish.

After your ride, take a few moments to gaze at the marine life in the adjacent aquarium. We love the moon jellies!

This ride is perfect if:  You want to get wet while coasting down big hills!

• Infinity Falls

Height requirement:  42” Thrill factor:  4

Infinity Falls is a river rapid ride that takes place on several levels. You’ll even take a short trip up a water elevator to get to the first hill.

Riders board a large round raft that navigates through some intense rapids, ending with a significant drop. Be prepared to get very wet!

This ride is perfect if:  It’s a hot day and you have a group of people who want to have some watery fun and thrills!

Family Rides

Height requirement:  48” Thrill factor:  2

The Sky Tower may look daunting, but in reality it’s a calm, slow ride that offers you a panoramic view of Orlando.

Head to the Sky Tower if you want to get your bearings and see the layout of the park from high up, or if you just need a break from walking but don’t want to miss out on any ride time.

Note: A ride on the Sky Tower requires a separate ticket, for a small fee, unless you are a passholder.

This ride is perfect if:  You have a variety of ages and thrill preferences in your group, and you want to enjoy a nice view of the park and Orlando.

• Flamingo Paddle Boats

Height requirement:  n/a Thrill factor:  1

For a small extra fee, you can power your own Flamingo Paddle Boat in a serene lagoon setting. It’s a relaxing change of pace from riding the coasters and perfect for when you need a break from walking but still want to work off lunch. See if you can spy real flamingos from your boat!

This ride is perfect if:  You want to enjoy a calming boat ride and don’t mind paddling as you go.

Sesame Street Land

It’s not all roller coasters at SeaWorld Orlando! Younger visitors will have tons of fun at Sesame Street Land.

This area of the park is packed with interactive play areas and a collection of kid-friendly rides designed specifically for the younger set, making it a great place for families.

Little ones can take a spin with Elmo on Elmo’s Choo Choo Train, soar through the skies on Abby’s Flower Tower, and get splashed at Rubber Duckie Water Works.

Plus, there are daily dance parties, parades, and opportunities to meet and get photos with your favorite Sesame Street characters.

The best order to ride SeaWorld Orlando rides

Like any park, you’ll want to head to the most popular rides first. But you’ll need to stay flexible. Some rides don’t open at the same time as the park, some close early, and it’s always possible for a ride to be shut down for a period of time during the day.

If you want to prioritize the biggest rides, you won’t be taking the most efficient path around the park, as you’ll have to double back and change course several times. But it’s not a bad plan to take a straighter path and ride the rides as you come to them.

Can I ride every ride at SeaWorld Orlando in one day?

SeaWorld Orlando can be done in a day — if you plan well and pack your day full of fun. The tricky part is riding the rides while also fitting in the shows, animal encounters, meals, and shopping!

If you’re headed to the park on a busy day, we highly recommend purchasing Quick Queue for anyone who will be riding all the rides. This pass gets you to the front of the line and can save you lots of waiting time. With SeaWorld’s affordable ticket prices, it won’t break the bank to add Quick Queue to your pass, and you’ll likely be able to ride your favorite rides several times.

You’ll have the best chance of maximizing your ride time if you  visit during a less busy time of year  (January, September, and the first half of November are our picks), go on a weekday, go on a day when the park is open early and closes late, and go early!

Arrive at SeaWorld Orlando at least 30 minutes before the posted opening time.  You’ll be near the front of the line, and once you’re inside you’ll be able to get right on your first few rides.

With the caveat that you should check show times as soon as they are available for the day, and plan your ride times around the shows you want to catch, this is the order we recommend hitting the SeaWorld Orlando rides.

With this ride order, we prioritized popular rides while doing our best to minimize walking across large sections of the park between rides.

This schedule has you basically walking around the park in two circles, which should give you the opportunity to slot in the animal shows when you’re nearby.

What to do other than rides at SeaWorld Orlando

SeaWorld has some of the best coasters in Orlando, plus a couple of fun water rides, and a host of kiddie rides in Sesame Street Land. However, rides aren’t even the main draw of SeaWorld Orlando.

The main focus at SeaWorld Orlando is the marine life you can encounter there, especially in the dolphin and orca shows. You’ll want to be sure you fit entertainment into your day, and don’t forget about shopping and eating!

Here are some of the other things you should consider when planning your day at SeaWorld:

SeaWorld Orlando entertainment

Even amid the impressive rides at SeaWorld Orlando, the best thing to do at the park is attend their aquatic animal shows: Dolphin Adventures , Orca Encounter , and Sea Lion & Otter Spotlight .

These inspiring shows both entertain and educate guests, as the animal trainers teach you impressive facts about these majestic ocean creatures while showing off the incredible feats that only they can perform.

Dolphin Adventures celebrates the playful spirit and intelligence of bottlenose dolphins. Alongside their skilled trainers, these dolphins perform dazzling jumps, spins, and tricks.

At Orca Encounter , guests can get an up close look at orca whales, as their trainers teach the audience about orca behavior and their role in our ecosystem.

Sea Lion & Otter Spotlight is a comedic act that will have you giggling as you watch these smart, funny animals interact with their human handlers.

The animal shows at SeaWorld are a blend of fun, learning, and spectacle, emphasizing the wonders of aquatic life.

And for those who are concerned about animal safety and happiness, you should know that  SeaWorld is American Humane Certified . This isn’t an assurance that every park around the world that houses animals is treating them well, but expert auditors and veterinarians “witnessed excellent care and healthy animals” at SeaWorld Orlando.

You’ll definitely want to take some time to visit all the wonderful and interesting species of animals that live at SeaWorld Orlando (my favorite being the penguins!). There are a variety of exhibits where you can observe them, plus a few paid experiences where you can get up close and personal.

For the most enthusiastic animal lovers, check out the many up-close encounters and  tours offered by SeaWorld  for an extra fee. It’ll be well worth the extra cost to be able to actually touch a dolphin, play with a penguin, and get amazing photos with a sea lion.

SeaWorld Orlando special events

In early January, head to SeaWorld Orlando for the Three Kings Celebration , then return in late January for Sesame Street Kids’ Weekend and Elmo’s Birthday Weekend .

In the late winter and spring, SeaWorld hosts the Seven Seas Food Festival where you can enjoy food from around the world.

SeaWorld also celebrates Mardi Gras , St. Patrick’s Day , and Cinco de Mayo . And in the summer, experience SeaWorld Summer Spectacular , with a night time dance party.

At Halloween time, you can attend the Howl-O-Scream , a separately ticketed event full of scares. For the younger set, try the SeaWorld Spooktacular , a family-friendly daytime event that’s included with your regular park tickets.

In November and December, you can feel the holiday spirit with SeaWorld Christmas Celebration , featuring special food, shows, and entertainment. They also host a New Year’s Eve event on the last day of the year.

You’re bound to get hungry throughout all this excitement, and SeaWorld offers plenty of good food to keep you fueled and going strong all day long!

We like the  Expedition Café  near the penguin exhibit for their tasty food, generous portions, and air-conditioned indoor seating!

The  Lakeside Grill  offers Mexican-inspired dishes alongside a gorgeous waterfront view. And head to  Voyager’s Smokehouse  for some of the best BBQ you’ll ever taste!

For those who plan to eat several meals throughout the day, SeaWorld Orlando’s All-Day Dining Deal is a great option . You get to eat all day for one fixed price — every 90 minutes you can have a drink, entree, and either a side or a dessert. An amazing deal for big eaters who want to try everything!

You can also opt for an upscale dining experience at  Sharks Underwater Grill and Bar , or eat among the whales with  Dine with Orcas .

For guests who want to grab quick bites in between rides and shows, you have plenty of counter-service options, such as  Captain Pete’s Island Hot Dogs  and  Panini Shore Café .

15 Best SeaWorld Orlando Tips to Help You Make the Most of Your Day! 

SeaWorld Orlando is where the magic of the ocean comes to life in Orlando, Florida! Perfectly situated on International Drive, the heart of the tourist district, SeaWorld Orlando is a fantastic way to spend a day in Orlando for visitors of all ages.

From awe-inspiring animal shows and encounters to some of the best rollercoasters in Orlando, there is so much to do at this unique park. This park is perfect for all ages with its sesame street-inspired kids area to adrenaline-rushing coasters.

However, navigating this park can be a bit overwhelming if it is your first time. As an Orlando local, I have put together my top tips to provide you with essential tips to maximize your day and ensure an unforgettable adventure.

Here are my 15 BEST tips to help you have the best day at SeaWorld Orlando!

Tip 1 – Arrive Early to SeaWorld Orlando

Arriving early at any theme park in Orlando is the best way to maximize your time at a park. SeaWorld Orlando is no exception. Located in the heart of the tourist district, Sea World can see long lines depending on the line of year you choose to visit.

Arrive 30 minutes before the park opening to allow yourself time to park the car, walk to the front entrance, and get organized for your incredible day ahead.

SeaWorld Orlando opens its park in phases, meaning for the first hour of park operation, not everything will be open. When you arrive, it’s best to ask a crew member what rides will be open for the first hour of the park. You can choose to ride the open rides, or begin your wait for Pipeline , Sea World’s newest coaster, and the only Stand-Up coaster in Florida!

The morning will be your opportunity to get the big rides out of the way. In the first two hours of park operation, I would suggest you ride these rides, as the waits get long.

• Journey to Atlantis
• Infinity Falls (Water Ride. Ride early on a hot day)

These three coasters see the longest waits throughout the day, so ride them early in the morning, or wait for later in the day.

Additionally, if you are visiting on a hot day in Orlando, ride Infinity Falls as early as possible. This family-style raft ride has the longest waits in the park in the afternoon. It is best to ride this as early as you can in your day but be warned, you will get SOAKED!

Tip 2 –  Know When To Visit SeaWorld Orlando

Knowing when to plan your trip to SeaWorld can make or break your trip.

The best times of year to visit are during Late January, February, May, September, October, and Early November.

Visiting during these times are drastically reduce crowds in the park. If you cannot visit during one of these times, no worries! The best days to visit SeaWorld are Monday-Thursday. Visiting on the weekdays will reduce park attendance, because less locals will be visiting.

The busiest times of year to visit SeaWorld are over major holidays. These times are Christmas, Thanksgiving, and 4th of July. 

But, visiting SeaWorld during these crowded times can be magical because SeaWorld puts on amazing fireworks shows during these times of the year. Additionally, SeaWorld has one of the best Christmas celebrations in all of Orlando.

Over Christmas, SeaWorld fills its parks with an over-the-top display of Christmas lights. It truly turns into a winter wonderland.

Tip 3 – Carry a Fanny Pack

Packing light for your day at SeaWorld is one way to minimize headaches during your trip. I recommend packing in a fanny pack and just bring the essentials.

Unlike Disney and Universal, Sea World has a strict loose articles policy on rides and required you to purchase a locker in order to ride.

The locker prices, as of summer 2023, can be seen below.

If you bring a bag larger than a traditional fanny pack, it must go inside the locker. The locker system is nice because you can pay only $10 a day to have a locker available all day, but these areas can become crowded and sometimes are hard to find. 

Minimize the stress by carrying a small bag.

Inside your fanny pack, I recommend bringing the following items.

• Your park ticket

Fanny packs are allowed on every ride at SeaWorld and must be worn on the ride. If you have loose articles such as a hat, sunglasses, cellphone, etc. there are bins next to the ride for you to use.

With these essentials, you should have everything you need for a successful day at the parks. Of course, if you need more than these items listed, that is okay as you have lockers available to you.

Tip 4 – Free Water/Drink Water

DRINK WATER! SeaWorld offers free water to all of its visitors. This is a park that requires a lot of time spent outside. The Florida sun is no joke, and it is important to stay hydrated. Drink water regularly to avoid dehydration later in the day.

Especially if you are visiting from out of state, and not used to the Florida heat, dehydration can kick in quicker than you think. From my experience in working in the Orlando theme parks, it happens all too often. Please please please, DRINK WATER!

To get free water, head to any of the drink stalls and ask where you can get free water to take advantage of this.

You can also purchase a refillable cup and use it throughout your visit.

Tip 5 – Plan Your Shows Ahead 

SeaWorld Orlando offers many amazing shows throughout the day. From keeper talks, animal shows, and theater performances, there are so many to take advantage of!

I recommend planning your shows ahead, or early in your day, and prioritize what is important to you. Have a look on the SeaWorld App to see what time the shows will be. Some animals only have 1 show per day, and other have 6. Talk to your group and see what is important to you.

The Keeper Talks are opportunities to learn more about these incredible animals. At the keeper talks, you will hear from one of SeaWorlds amazing keepers and learn how they care for the animal, fun facts about the animals, and hear stories about the animals.

The Animal Shows are with the dolphins, Sea Lions & Otters, and the Orcas. These shows are an opportunity to see the trainers with the animals. These shows are high energy and popular to attend. You’ll see the animals swim, jump, and play with their trainer, as well as learn a bit about them too! If you want to visit the animal shows, I recommend arriving 20 minutes early to get a seat, or 45 minutes early to the Orcas show.

Pro-tip: Arrive early to the Sea Lions & Otters to see the SeaWorld mime! This hilarious improv show happens 15-20 minutes before the start of the show, and should not be missed!

Tip 6 – Download the SeaWorld Orlando App

Before your visit to SeaWorld Orlando, download the app! The SeaWorld app is free and easy to use. The app offers a map of the park, show times, ride information, food ordering, animal experiences, and more!

This app will be your lifeline during your visit. 

One of my favorite features of the app is the “map” section, which allows you to type in where you want to go and then provides directions! Your first time at a park can be overwhelming if you don’t know where you are going, so this feature is fantastic to help first-timers!

Additionally, use this app to plan your showtimes at. I recommend downloading the app in advance and having a look at it. Many of the showtimes stay consistent and don’t change too much. 

Additionally, you can download your ticket to your app and have everything in the palm of your hand!

I personally like the SeaWorld Orlando app more than the Universal Orlando app, and find it very easy to use.

Tip 7 – Consider All-Day Dining Plan

If you plan to spend all day at SeaWorld Orlando, consider purchasing the all-day dining plan. Starting at $49.99 per adult, this dining plan gets you 1 drink, 1 entree, and 1 dessert every 90 minutes! It is an incredible deal, if you plan on eating at least twice in the park.

The average lunch entree in SeaWorld is around $17, then add a drink and dessert, it’s about $30 per meal. This dining plan can save you serious money if you use it right.

Although SeaWorld Orlando isn’t known for its food, like other parks, SeaWorld has a wide variety of food options included with the dining plan.

There are 8 quick-service restaurants included in this dining package, from Mexican-inspired cuisine to American and BBQ, there is something for everyone.

Pro-tip: Try to eat during off-peak times. Eat at nontraditional times to avoid lines and enjoy a more relaxing atmosphere. This means eating early or late in the day, around 3-4 pm.

Tip 8 – Ride Rides in the Morning and Evening

This tip applies to most theme parks in Orlando, ride rollercoasters, and attractions in the morning and evening. This is when the rides have the shortest wait times during the day. Arrive early to knock some rides out, and stay late to experience the shortest waits.

Note that many of the rollercoasters will close early due to fireworks. As you go throughout your day, notice what attractions will be closing earlier.

Spend your afternoon enjoying the keeper talks, animal shows, and aquariums. There are so many hidden gems and aquariums in SeaWorld to keep you cool during the hot afternoons.

I highly recommend the Shark exhibit , as its a great way to stay cool and see some incredible sharks up close. The Shark exhibit will get crowded in the rain, as many people flock there. 

Additionally, the Antarctic Penguins are a fantastic way to stay cool, but the outside line can get quite long. This is best to visit in the late afternoon.

Tip 9 – Stay for the Nighttime Dance Party and Fireworks 

SeaWorld truly comes to life at night! As previously mentioned, SeaWorld has many events happening throughout the year. Most of which happen at night. From concerts to dance parties, SeaWorld Orlando always has something going on.

Stay in the evening to enjoy many of these offerings, including the fireworks.

SeaWorld’s fireworks happen in the lake in the center of the park. Most nights, the fireworks are a quick 10 minutes. During New Year’s and 4th of July holidays, SeaWorld puts on one of the best firework displays in Orlando.

On a regular night, the fireworks are best viewed from the Bayside Stadium but can be viewed anywhere around the park. To avoid crowds, I’d recommend watching them from in front of the Pipeline Rollercoaster. This walkway has benches and lots of space for people to spread out, then you beat the crowds on the way out.

Tip 10 – Buy Tickets Online in Advance for SeaWorld Orlando

One of the best things you can do before your visit to SeaWorld Orlando is to purchase tickets online in advance. You can purchase tickets on the website or with a 3rd party reseller.

I have found Costco to give the best ticket deals to SeaWorld.

If you purchase online, be sure to look at the ticket options. SeaWorld is a sister park to Busch Gardens, Aquatica Waterpark, and Adventure Island Waterpark. Package your tickets for the best pricing. Purchasing online is where you will be able to receive discounts.

Buying tickets at the gate can have long lines and cost the most money. In the morning, the lines to purchase tickets at the parks become extremely crowded. The last thing you want to do during your trip to SeaWorld is stand in a line before you are even inside the park!

Tip 11 – Dress Appropriately and Wear Sunscreen

Orlando has four seasons, hot, hotter, rainy, and warm. Being in the sunshine state, it is important to dress appropriately for the day. I recommend wearing lightweight dry-fit clothes to maximize your comfort. You might even want to pack a swimsuit if you have little travelers with you. 

It rains a lot in Florida, so you can be prepared for the rain by wearing dry-fit clothes or packing rain gear. If you need, you can purchase ponchos inside the park. These can be useful while riding the water ride and sitting in splash zones during the animal shows as well.

Leave the jeans at home, and wear something you can move easily in. In the event you are traveling in January or February, Orlando can receive a few cold days a year during these months. Pack a sweatshirt or something warm.

No matter the day, be sure to check the weather before your trip!

Additionally, wear comfortable shoes! You will be doing a lot of walking during your day, as SeaWorld Orlando is a big park. Wear comfortable shoes that you have worn before.

Lastly, wear sunscreen! The Florida sun is no joke, and you will burn easier than you think you will. Be sure to lather up the sunscreen in the morning and throughout the day.

Pro-tip: Pack a portable fan or a cooling towel to help you stay cool in the hot summer months.

Tip 12 – Visit Aquariums During the Rain at SeaWorld Orlando

As previously mentioned, Orlando receives a lot of rain. Especially if you are visiting in the summer months of June, July, August, and September, expect rain every day.

It is best to embrace the rain during your trip, as it is just a part of life down here. If it plans to rain on you during your trip, have a plan. What indoor things can you do? Check out the Antarctica Penguins, have a look around the Shark Encounter, or visit the rescue and rehabilitation turtles and manatees.

SeaWorld, in my opinion, is an awesome rainy-day park because there is a lot to see and do inside. Plan these visits to the indoor attractions during the rain, but note they will get crowded.

Another way to spend your time during those afternoon rain showers is to eat! Have your lunch or dinner during this time to maximize your day. Many of the quick-service restaurants are inside and will keep you dry.

Tip 13 – See the Shows and Entertainers!

SeaWorld Orlando has an indoor theater that is dedicated to Broadway-style shows. Currently, they are showing the Surf Holiday and Nautilus Theater and Sesame Street Party Parade. This show includes singing, dancing, and a story about conservation. These shows are fun for everyone and worth seeing.

I absolutely love the Sesame Street land, even as an adult. It is extremely well done and offers shade, indoor entertainment, and a parade!

These really are hidden gems in SeaWorld Orlando.

Additionally, you will find street performers on stilts walking around the park. Interact with them and take photos, they are a lot of fun!

Tip 14 – Animal Encounters and Tours at SeaWorld Orlando

Get up close and personal with the sealife with animal experiences! Encounter Beluga Whales, Walrus, Dolphins, Penguins, and more with these VIP tours!

These tours take you behind the scenes to learn more about these amazing animals and how SeaWorld cares for then. The tours are a great way to learn more about SeaWorld but also have a unique and memorable experience at the parks.

These bucket-list experiences are unlike anything else you can get in Orlando and are worth trying on your next trip to SeaWorld.

If you are looking for a more premium experience, head across the street to Discovery Cove to swim with Dolphins.

Tip 15 – Eat at Sharks Underwater Grill

One of the best-kept secrets of SeaWorld Orlando is its amazing dining! Eat at the Sharks Underwater Grill for the experience of a lifetime. Not only is the atmosphere here insanely cool, but it also offers you a break from your busy theme park day. This is one of the best dining experiences in all of Orlando, and worth visiting!

On most days, this place doesn’t get too full, meaning you can book reservations the day of or walk up. 

The Sharks Underwater Grill is located conveniently next to the shark exhibit, and once again, offers a rare and unique view of these magnificent creatures all around you.

Family Travel: What To Do In Orlando If You’re Not Doing Disney

Most people equate a family trip to Florida with Disney. Orlando is, after all, known as the Theme Park Capital of the World and is the most visited destination in the United States. Yet Orlando and surrounding Lake County are filled with dining, entertainment, and nature adventures that are worth a trip in their own right. In fact, there are so many family friendly-activities that this part of the Sunshine State tops the list as a fun and convenient destination to take kids. Here is how I spent three days in Orlando and nearby Lake County with my 9-year-old daughter—and made memories that will last a lifetime.

Day One: Orlando And Wild Florida

We arrived at the new Hotel Landy , short for Orlando of course, which is conveniently located about 20 minutes from the airport and less than 10 minutes from Universal Studios. The kinetic design of the hotel, featuring geometric shapes and curving lines, was inspired by Émilie du Châtelet , a mathematician whose work led to the development of roller coasters. 

The place had so many kid-friendly amenities that we could have happily spent four days just lounging at this hotel. After dropping off our bags in our king room with floor-to-ceiling windows and views of Orlando, we set out to explore, playing air hockey in the game room and doing some exercises together in the light-filled fitness center. My daughter and I then changed into our swimsuits and headed to the hot tub and pool area. In addition to the resort-style pool, we found a beach-style courtyard complete with lawn games (we love a good corn hole competition), seating areas, and a food truck called “Liquid Sunshine,” which offers small plates such as fish tacos along with a variety of craft cocktails.

Adventuring In Wild Florida

Though we didn’t want to leave the oasis of Hotel Landy, we drove about 45 minutes south to Wild Florida for a nature adventure. And we were happy we did: this unique excursion to the headwaters of the Florida Everglades could easily take an entire day. The three main things to do here are taking an airboat tour, walking around Gator Park, and driving through the animal safari. 

Though you can make your way through Wild Florida in any order, I’d recommend starting driving through the 170-acre Safari Park that’s home to exotic animals such as zebras, bison and antelope—and that ends with a pit stop where you come face to face with a giraffe on the feeding platform. 

Next walk around Gator Park , where you can see more than 200 exotic and native animals including sloths, capybaras, and bobcats. Don’t miss the twice-daily feedings of Crusher, an American alligator who is more than 13 feet long. There’s also a covered playground for kids to burn off energy and the Hawk Swamp for bird lovers, where you might spot an owl if you’re lucky. When you work up an appetite, Chomps Grill offers fried gator nuggets as well as more kid-friendly options such as hot dogs and sliders.

The highlight of our adventure was taking an hour-long airboat ride through the Everglades. Rather than merely reading about wildlife such as eagles and alligators in a textbook or watching YouTube videos, my daughter got the thrill of seeing the animals in their natural environment as we skimmed atop the swamp, marshes, and rivers. Our watchful captain spotted a mother and baby alligator near a nest made of mud and plants, and was happy to answer many questions from passengers about the alligators’ habitat and eating habits (apparently father alligators have been known to eat their hatchlings). 

On that note, we wrapped up our adventure and drove back to Hotel Landy for an alligator-free meal at the hotel’s signature restaurant, Émilie Bar & Lounge (also named after the mathematician) to refuel with dishes such as fig and burrata and steak frites.

Day Two: Winter Park And Disney Springs

My daughter and I started out day two by driving north towards Winter Park , one of the 14 districts in Lake County , which is aptly known for its parks and lakes as well as picturesque shopping district, farmer’s market, art festival, and sidewalk cafes.

But first, we grabbed a cheddar biscuit sandwich plate and artisanal doughnut at The Glass Knife , a cafe and cake shop that features a long communal table at its center displaying a collection of colorful glass knives. Those glass knives belonged to the owner’s mother, a local baker, whose memory and recipes inspired the cozy yet elegant cafe.

Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour

Next up we had a relaxing hour learning the history of Winter Park, Central Florida’s oldest community, with a Winter Park Scenic Boat Tour starting on Lake Osceola. We listened to the captain, who was quite entertaining, share some scandalous tales of the wealthy Easterners who founded the community in the 1800s, while he expertly navigated through narrow man-made canals connecting the Winter Park chain of lakes.

The rest of the afternoon was spent doing one of our favorite things, getting lost. Park Avenue is made for wandering, with tree-lined blocks bordered with more than 100 specialty shops, salons, and restaurants. We found gifts for our family at the Rifle Paper Co. , tried handmade chocolates at Peterbrooke Chocolatier , and window shopped at the women’s clothing boutique T he Impeccable Pig .

Disney Springs

While we didn’t visit Disney World’s theme park, we did continue our wandering streak later that evening at Disney Springs , an outdoor shopping, dining, and entertainment area bordering the theme park. The walkways were buzzing with shoppers, and we ducked into the Summer House on the Lake , a light-filled California-style eatery with a beach house feel and outdoor seating overlooking the lake. You don’t have to sit down to order a homemade cookie from the cookie bar, and you might want to take some home with flavors such as sea salt chocolate chip, fudge bomb, and berry oatmeal.

Later that night we did experience the magic Disney World is so famous for that infuses storytelling with heart, and combined it with thrilling acrobatics, by going to a performance of Drawn To Life By Cirque de Soleil at La Nouba Theater in Disney Springs. As we were waiting for the show to begin, it was clear that the audience were co-creators of the experience along with the actors: My daughter got selected to go onstage with about a dozen other children to draw a piece of art that was projected onto a big screen for the rest of the audience to see. 

Once the lights dimmed, we couldn’t take our eyes off the actors’ sheer physicality as they gracefully danced and performed breath-stopping stunts. But it was the spirit of the story itself that truly drew us in: The plot focuses on a pre-teen girl who finds a half-finished collection of sketches left behind from her deceased father, who was an animator. She embarks on a journey into her imagination, where she is joined by a cast of funny muses and also a dark character who might be described as her inner critic. After trying to run away or battle her inner critic for much of the show, the girl finally decides to face and embrace this dark character. It is only by facing her fear that she is able to overcome her creative block and bring the animation to life—an important lesson for children and adults alike.

After the finale and joining the crowd in a standing ovation, we headed back to our home base at Hotel Landy, ready for bed and sweet (Disney) dreams.

Day Three: Southern Hills Farms And Mount Dora

On day three we left the city behind and drove west to Clermont towards open fields and big blue skies to visit Southern Hill Farms . This is a third-generation family farm that lets visitors pick crops such as blueberries, strawberries, and peaches. The idyllic farm off a dirt road in Lake Country has become a destination for tourists and locals alike, a place for people to be out in the fresh air and sunshine and close to the earth and the crops.

Besides being able to pick fruit, there are also u-pick sunflowers and zinnias. But what makes Southern Hills Farms a popular agritourism hub is that there are dozens of activities to awaken all of your senses, from tasting fresh-baked muffins made with the farm’s own blueberries, to listening to live music under one of the covered pavilions, to smelling the homemade sugar scrubs (my favorite is the lemon lavender) in the onsite market, to touching the sand in the onsite playground’s sandbox, and seeing the view of the farm from above while riding the Berry Trouper in the Kids Zone.

Then it was time for the final leg of our trip and to check into our next hotel, the Key West Resort on Lake Dora in Tavares (known as “America’s Seaplane City” because of the number of seaplanes making splash landings) and grab a quick lunch next door at Puddle Jumpers .

Our final activity was heading to the quaint town of Mount Dora , which hosts more than 30 art, music and food festivals a year, to join Premier Boat Tours for a two-hour eco-tour of Lake Dora and Harris Chain of Lakes. The pontoon boat drifted through canals and under hanging cypress trees, where we spotted a rare soft-shelled turtle sunning itself on a fallen limb and an endangered egret standing regally in the mangrove. 

We celebrated a vacation well spent with dinner at my favorite restaurant of the trip, The Goblin Market in historic downtown Mount Dora. The owners named the restaurant and bar after Christina G. Rossetti’s 18th century poem , which they read together in college while they were dating. The walls of the three intimate dining rooms are lined with bookshelves and art, the ceilings are lined with wooden beams, and the feel is that you are in someone’s living room. 

Over my daughter’s favorite drink, a Shirley Temple, we talked about our favorite trip moments because it was too hard to pin it down to just one. There is a reason Central Florida is one of the country’s most popular family-friendly destinations. I hope our vacation in the Sunshine State will be etched into her mind as one of her happy childhood memories, because it will forever live in mine.
