"go on a tour" sounds like an organized event with a tour guide. "go sightseeing" sounds like you are on your own, looking at the sights at your own speed. "Tomorrow at 2PM I'm going on a tour of Teotihuacan." - a specific location, probably in a group with a tour guide. "Tomorrow I'm going sightseeing." - no specific location, probably by yourself. @tty19 Usually, yes. 'sightseeing' definitely implies travelling, but 'go on a tour' could be much more general: "Tomorrow I'm going on a tour of my friend's new house.". This makes sense even if the new house is just across the street. But in general you're correct, they're both most commonly used with respect to travelling or taking some kind of trip.

@tty19 hmm, i'm not sure. i interpret "ir de turismo" as 'travel as a tourist', "ir de excursion" doesn't translate very accurately into english, something like 'take an excursion', which isn't commonly used, but means about the same as 'travel as a tourist.'. do you have longer sentences (in spanish) that you're interested in seeing the translations "go on a tour" and "go sightseeing" are very similar in a general way, but "go on a tour" sounds more like a specific event. please let me know if you have some larger contexts in spanish, my spanish is definitely not brilliant but i can read quite well., @tty19 i have to say no, not really. if somebody tells me they're 'going sightseeing', the only information i have is that they are going to look at the sights [ir a ver paisajes]. if somebody tells me they're 'going on a tour', i know they are travelling to a specific location with a specific purpose [ir de gira]. google translate tells me that "ir de turismo" means to travel as a tourist, in this case we would just say 'travel'. but in this context we wouldn't say 'go on a tour' or 'go sightseeing'. these are specific activities that we do when we are travelling. please continue asking, i want to make sure we figure this out, exactly, in spanish "ir/andar de turismo" would translate into english as 'travel as a tourist', but we would commonly just say 'travel'. Hola! ¿Cómo se dice "hacer un tour" en inglés? ¿Make, do.... a tour? ¿O existe otro verbo más adecuado para referirse a esto? Gracias

Hola pepegomez y bienvenido al foro. Creo que ´tour´ puede ir con estos verbos (al menos): do, go on, make . Dependerá de lo que quieras decir; p.ej. I went on a guided tour of the museum. I´m making a three-week tour of France. Un saludo.

"Taking a tour", para mi gusto, puede implicar que alguien se lo organizó para el turista, o que directamente se trata de un tour guiado. Lo mismo con "to go on a tour" (que no es lo mismo que "go on tour" sin "a", que se refiere a una gira de, ej, un conjunto musical o una compañía de teatro). Por otra parte, a mí me parece que da lo mismo decir "I toured Italy for three weeks last summer", o "I did/made a three-week tour of Italy". A lo mejor, aunque no seguramente, lo hice solo, sin que nadie me lo organizara.

The last one "I took/went on a tour" There is no supposition here that anybody organised it for you. You could easily "take a tour of London by bus on your own Click to expand...

Coldplay fans left outraged over Ticketmaster glitch as they struggle to buy UK 2025 tour tickets

Coldplay fans have expressed anger and criticised Ticketmaster after a glitch caused a last-minute scramble for tour tickets .

The British band recently announced six Wembley shows for next summer as part of their record-breaking Music Of The Spheres World Tour, but added another four due to “phenomenal demand”.

However, when tickets went on sale at 9am on Friday, many fans were left frustrated as Ticketmaster required customers to authenticate their accounts but failed to send out the necessary verification codes.

This is the latest controversy for Ticketmaster, following backlash over the site's "dynamic pricing system," which saw Oasis tour tickets skyrocket to as much as £355.

Just moments before Coldplay tickets went on sale, frustrated fans took to X, formerly known as Twitter, to report they hadn't received their verification codes, leaving them unable to make any purchases.

One fan wrote: “Not again Ticketmaster, tried to log in for 8:30 only to be met with ‘change your password first’ then ‘authenticate your account’ and now I’m still waiting for a code that hasn’t come through and therefore I can’t join the waiting room! #coldplay #ticketmaster.”

“ticketmaster saying I need a code to verify my account and then just not sending the code??? make it make SENSE #coldplay,” another commented.

A third added: “Trying to enter the waiting room and it wants to verify it's me....no validation code coming through.”

Minutes after the ticket sale went live, fans who managed to join the queue were stunned to receive notifications stating that only "limited tickets" were available.

“I spent all day in presale queues yesterday; I joined the waiting room at 8:30 today,” another penned. “I’m already getting this message at 9:05 for the general sale gutted! #Coldplay #Ticketmaster.”

A second shared: “would be good to know why all ticket types are already extremely limited 2 mins before general sale has even started #coldplay #ticketmaster”.

“ticketmaster has sold 90% of its tickets to resellers, axs queue has been frozen for an hour, see tickets and gigs and tours sites have completely crashed, and everything is sold out even though no one seems to actually have tickets?? how is this the norm now #Coldplay,” another claimed.

“I paid for a presale code and got stuck in several queues of 170k+ people so got nothing, I woke up at 7am today to log into 4 different ticket sites for the general sale and I’m told at 9am as the sale goes live that there’s nothing left?! Why is this impossible,” a fan wrote.

In response to the outrage, a Ticketmaster spokesperson told The Standard: “As anticipated, millions of fans are accessing our site today for Coldplay's record-breaking tour so have been placed in a queue. The queue is moving along as fans buy tickets. We always advise fans sign up and verify their account in advance. More advice can be found here”.

However, for concert-goers eager to secure tickets for the upcoming Wembley dates without the hassle of ticket platforms, several hospitality packages are available directly from Wembley. Starting at £499, these packages guarantee premium seating, VIP access, gourmet dining, and dedicated service.

General sale for t he band’s tour comes after it was announced they will become the first music act to play 10 nights at Wembley Stadium in a single tour, breaking a record jointly held by Taylor Swift and Take That.

On Thursday, the London venue said in a post on X that the group will set “a new Wembley record” after the band announced additional shows had been added to their 2025 world tour.

The post added: “Coldplay make Wembley history as they perform a record ten nights under the arch as part of the #MusicOfTheSpheresWorldTour. It could only happen here.”

The band, comprised of frontman Chris Martin , guitarist Jonny Buckland, drummer Will Champion and bassist Guy Berryman, had initially announced a six-night run at Wembley next year but added four more shows due to “phenomenal demand”.

Grammy-award winner Swift, who kicked off her juggernaut Eras Tour in 2023, this year became the first solo artist to play the venue eight times in a single tour, with the stadium gifting her a bespoke guitar to mark her achievement.

Pop group Take That, known for hits including Patience and Greatest Day, performed eight shows at the stadium in 2011.

The pop band, known for songs including Clocks, Yellow and Fix You, will also play at Craven Park in Hull in August next year alongside a special guest, yet to be announced.

This year the band headlined Glastonbury Festival on the Saturday night where they were joined by artists including Little Simz and Nigerian music legend Femi Kuti, as well as Back To The Future star Michael J Fox.

The group are to play dates in Australia from October as part of their ongoing Music Of The Spheres world tour which is named after their 2021 album of the same name.

Their forthcoming studio album, Moon Music, will be released in October.

La historia sólo se acuerda de los grandes genios, los que escriben las páginas más brillantes del ciclismo . Tadej Pogacar  se cita el domingo con la leyenda de este deporte . Es el favorito número uno para la medalla de oro, el ciclista que quiere seguir la estela de Eddy Merckx (1974) y de Stephen Roche (1987), los dos únicos corredores que han ganado en una misma temporada (por orden de celebración) Giro, Tour y Mundial . Si logra el título, además, dejará para la posteridad y a falta del cierre de Lombardía (12 de octubre) una temporada fantástica.

Tan extraordinario está siendo el año 2024 para el astro esloveno que su peor resultado ha sido la séptima plaza del Gran Premio de Quebec, carrera de segundo nivel, a donde fue a preparar el Gran Premio de Montreal que ganó el 15 de septiembre por delante de Pello Bilbao: primero en la Strade Bianche, tercero en la Milán-San Remo, primero en la Lieja-Bastoña-Lieja, vencedor arrollador de Giro y Tour, antes de su triunfo en Canadá y de convertirse este domingo en el candidato número a vestir el jersey arcoíris que hasta ahora lleva Mathieu van der Poel , a quien tampoco se puede borrar de la pelea por las medallas.

Oro y plata, ¿vendidas?

Hace unos días, bromeaba un colaborador de Pogacar con esta frase. “ Las medallas de oro y plata están vendidas ”, porque este Mundial (Teledeporte y Eurosport) tiene un plus especial. Hasta ahora, por exigencias del calendario o accidentes, Pogacar y  Remco Evenepoel  no han podido coincidir en una carrera de un día. En tres semanas, ya se vio en el Tour, el fenómeno esloveno cobra ventaja, pero la estrella flamenca revoluciona cada clásica o campeonato donde acude . Llega a Zúrich, ciudad que acoge todas las pruebas del Mundial, como campeón olímpico. El domingo pasado se colgó el oro en la contrarreloj. Hace dos años ya ganó el campeonato y el duelo con Pogacar es el máximo aliciente, una pelea sin precedentes, que puede marcar una de las grandes imágenes ciclistas no sólo de 2024 sino de una época, la contemporánea.

“Evenepoel se mostró muy fuerte en la contrarreloj individual. Es su disciplina y donde más brilla, pero el domingo jugamos otro partido”, reconoció Pogacar al llegar a Zúrich, donde admitió el afán por ser campeón del mundo y donde enseñó, en forma humana, su herramienta especial que lo ayudará en la victoria , nada menos que un Primoz Roglic, compatriota esloveno, compañero de selección y gregario por un día.

Por si fuera poco, la geografía juega a favor de Pogacar porque se trata de uno de los mundiales más duros de la historia que se presenta con 5.475 metros de desnivel positivo y 267,5 kilómetros de recorrido. Imposible el triunfo para un velocista, para una sorpresa o para un corredor mediano de los que brillan un día. Sólo una figura, una estrella, un ciclista diferente al resto, puede conseguir la victoria. Y, aquí, de nuevo, las miradas se fijan en un único corredor. “El jersey arcoíris es una prenda muy especial. Representa al mejor ciclista del mundo y todos quieren llevarlo. Pero este Mundial es uno de mis grandes objetivos de la temporada ”, afirmó Pogacar desde Zúrich.

El papel de España

Si el oro y la plata parecen tener dueño, el podio, aunque sea a modo de bronce, sí está al alcance de la mejor selección española que acude al Mundial desde que Alejandro Valverde se convirtió en campeón del mundo hace seis años.  Bilbao llega en una forma exquisita y con el derecho a ganarse los galones como líder del equipo que dirige Pascual Momparler, mientras que J uan Ayuso acude como alternativa en una temporada que no le ha salido al joven valor español de 22 años como le habría gustado por el covid, que lo apartó del Tour , y por la discutida decisión de su equipo al no convocarlo para la Vuelta.

Con ellos dos, el combinado español se muestra como un equipo compacto, trabajador y con clase para estar al filo de la navaja con Álex Aranburu, Carlos Rodríguez, Enric Mas, Mikel Landa, Pablo Castrillo (en la órbita del Movistar) y Roger Adrià. Poco después de las 17 horas del domingo se conocerá la sentencia final.
