Interviewer : Please describe your job title and primary duties. Quiktrip Clerk : All right, so what I did was, I was a part time clerk, meaning I would check people out, keep up with the store, make sure the store was clean, just basically do the little dirty work, just so the managers can do, like the bigger work, like place the orders or help out with complaining customers. Anything else that I could kind of do just to kind of keep the levels down, the business levels down, and just keep it moving steady and slow.

Interviewer : What was the work environment like? Quiktrip Clerk : It was pretty cool, actually, because I’m from Arlington, and so where I was working it was filled with, like, a lot of happy people, and so everybody would come in, like, they would know you by a first name basis and you would know the customers by a first name basis, so it was pretty cool in that. I had a couple customers come in, and they would wish me good luck for going off to school. It’s very, it’s a very safe environment. We let cops drink for free, so that’s kind of one of our big deals, why we have a really good, safe environment. It’s well-lit at night, so we really have no problems or anything like that, or concerns about safety issues.

Interviewer : How would you describe the application and interview process? Quiktrip Clerk : Well, when you fill out the application, it’s very selective. They’re really good about first time jobs, if it’s your first time. If you go in there with the right mindset and you know what you’re going to do, you can’t be real hesitant about the job. They kind of want to know if you can do this, there’s no, oh, what ifs, or if there is, like they want to know if you can do this and that and kind of just be straightforward with them. If you try to go in there and lie and try to boost yourself, they’ll kind of know, but if you’re just honest with them and have a conversation, when I went in there to do a interview, all we did was have a conversation with, I had a conversation with the manager. He called me back the next day to talk about my training, so the interview process really isn’t that hard. They do do drug tests, they do background checks and all that, but other than that it’s really easy going and straightforward.

Interviewer : What questions did the interviewer ask during the job interview? Quiktrip Clerk : They asked, “What do you do? Do you go to school? What’s your major? What do you like to do for fun? If I picked you to hire this company, what can you do to benefit our company?” Just similar questions along that line. “If I were- if me and you were to switch positions for the day, what would you do to benefit Quiktrip and what would you get me to do if I was your part time clerk and you were the manager?” Just simple stuff, just to kind of see where you would fit at for them, and if you can help them out in different aspects of their company.

Interviewer : What set you apart from other candidates? Quiktrip Clerk : Honestly, I feel like I’m very outgoing. I like going in there, making sure I kind of stand firm and let them know that I am, I can be the leader of this job, I can do what I’m supposed to do. That’s kind of what I did from other past experiences of not getting hired. It’s just kind of a learning experience, once you go through multiple interviews, and I feel like if you just go in there with the right mind, and sometimes, even if you’ve got to practice the interview in the mirror, just, you know, if you want to set yourself up so you can succeed and not fail, so it’s basically like taking a test. You’ve just got to practice over and over again until hopefully you get it right.

Interviewer : How were you notified that you received the job? Quiktrip Clerk : The whole process itself was, I applied on Sunday, just filling out the application. They called me back that Monday, and then after that we set up an interview for Thursday, and then about a week after that they called me back, so altogether, about 2 weeks, or maybe a week and a half to 2 weeks. They’re really quick about getting back to you, and the thing is, if they don’t call you, they don’t like you pestering them about calling you. It’s like, they want, they will let you know if you’ve got the job or not, so it’s better not to keep calling them and keep reminding them. I don’t know, it’s kind of weird about that. I don’t know.

Interviewer : What other advice would you give to a job seeker looking to gain employment? Quiktrip Clerk : Honestly, just be yourself, man. If you want to go out there and get the job, Quicktrip is a really good job to work for. They give great benefits. They pay back school, they, you get free gas coupons, sometimes you get free food, trying out the food. When you first start there, they give you a lot of food to just try out, just so you can get familiar with the stuff, so if customers ask you about it, you can tell them your honest opinion. If you just really, if you really want this job or if you really want to seek a job, you’re going to know what to do to go get it. It’s not about, it’s not about listening to what other people have to say. If you really want something, you’re going to dig down deep to go get what you want.
