Recent tour reviews

For those either well versed in the Metric opus or those only acquainted with their most recent hits the Cureapalooza V.3 show was a complete eye opening success. The front band, The Elwins, did a superb job stoking the crowd of nearly 1,000 to a feverish pitch. When Metric hit the stage the audience was overwhelmed with a sound and light plethora that few had ever seen up this close before. Fortunately, I got there prior to the tidal wave of fans and was mere feet away from the stage. At Metric's previous show at the Scotia Bank Arena in April I sat in the VIP section which was nothing compared to last night's 'up close and intimate' affair. The range of songs interspersed with driving tempos and melodic renditions captivated all in attendance. It may be said by some naysayers that all in attendance were die-hard fans, but I went with someone relatively unfamiliar with Metric's work and as she bounced and gyrated to the beat I knew she was hooked! Guitars and percussion were bang on and wildly animated. Emily Haines' voice traversed the gamut of songs in fiery fashion. Her gymnastic gesturing convinced everyone that she was the Queen holding court. I still don't know how Emily can move so gracefully, yet dynamically and still lay out those lilting sounds with ease. All in all, coupled with a multi song encore, Metric demonstrated once again their powerhouse placement in not only Canadian, but International music rankings. Dan Bowyer~~~~~

Do you have a band you love so much you'd suspend your life for a while to follow them on tour, city to city, like a modern-day Deadhead? That's me and Metric. I haven't actually followed them, but I've seen them twice at the Masonic, and also when they opened for another artist last year in Oakland.

Metric put on a tight, focused show last night, with an emphasis on the more familiar hits from their large catalog. The sound mixing and light effects were on point, and overall it was another magnificent show.

I can't want to see them again.

Saw Metric twice! First time in San Diego this was a great concert even with the "interesting" weather! Thankfully it cleared before Metric hit the stage and We thoroughly enjoyed the night! Our second time was in Riverside at the Riverside Municipal Auditorium! A very beautiful venue! The show was full of energy and Metric was great! Sadly the sound was off, several other fans and I discussed this, Emily's vocals were too low and the guitar and bass almost drowned her out :( I have seen other shows here and this was not a problem then so I don't know what was going on. Other than that Metric rocked the house!!! I LOVE Metric!!!!!

Metric Unveil New Song + Video “All Comes Crashing”

From forthcoming eighth studio album formentera, set for release july 8th.

Today, Metric share a new single and video “ All Comes Crashing ;” Listen/share HERE and watch/share the video HERE .

“All Comes Crashing” is the first offering from Metric’s upcoming eighth studio album, Formentera , set to release on July 8th . “Not everyone has a conventional life with conventional relationships,” says front woman Emily Haines . “‘All Comes Crashing’” is a love song that goes beyond romantic love, it’s an expression of solidarity with whoever it is you would want to have beside you in the event of catastrophe. It might be your best friend, it might be your blood brother or your dog. The song is dedicated to those you consider your family, whatever that looks like for you.”

The words This Is What Happened flash across the screen in the video and have come to serve as the band’s motto as they reckon with the events of the last few years—a band at its peak of creative power attempting to decipher the turbulent world around us, with Haines positioned like a lightning rod in the midst of it, emerging with a fresh new album that sounds like essential Metric.

The band will be hitting the road on a Live Nation produced North American headline tour, The Doomscroller Tour , set to kick off this August in Victoria, BC with stops in 39-cities. Complete list of dates below. Metric has partnered with PLUS1 so that $1 per ticket goes to supporting War Child and their work to empower children and families in communities affected by war throughout the world.

“We’re crafting a set list based on fan favorites including deep cuts from Live It Out and Old World , and it’s been wild to see how the new songs from Formentera flow with the classics from Fantasies and Synthetica ,” says Haines. “…I want Metric fans to have the best concert experience possible and feel like they got to escape into another reality with us for the evening.”

Tickets for The Doomscroller Tour go on sale to the general public on Fri, May 6 at 10am local time. View the full list of tour dates and get tickets HERE .

Praise for Metric:

The New York Times

“The group’s pulsating synthesizers and looming guitars carry new-wave urgency into the 21st century.”

“… Art of Doubt is the sound of a band that’s only reinvigorated by the arrival of its 20th anniversary.”

“Emily Haines leads her band into their seventh album with their own sound… full of big, broad rock anthems.”

“Partly inspired by the chaotic state of the world, the group is ready to rock again”

“Defiance never sounded so good.”

Formentera is named for an idyllic island near Ibiza off the coast of Spain—a place which, for Metric, only existed in a “dream destinations” travel book sitting on the desk of their recording studio. “We had been living in our imaginations for a long time, because we couldn’t physically go anywhere else,” explains guitarist and co-producer Shaw. “When you listen to the album from beginning to end, you start with this immediate feeling of tension building, of being stuck in a loop, and then there’s this intense release that happens… you’re swept off your feet into the title track ‘Formentera’ and it’s like you escaped.”

Metallica to Return to North America With More M72 World Tour Dates

 • By Kory Grow

Nearly seven seasons have passed since Metallica released their 11th studio album, 72 Seasons . The band’s M72 World Tour in support of the record will stretch at least another three additional seasons since, on Thursday, they announced upcoming spring and summer North American tour dates.

The new leg will kick off with an appearance at Las Vegas’ Sick New World Festival on April 12 and, other than a couple of one-off engagements and festival appearances, will resume its run of two-night stands around the continent. On those dates — dubbed No Repeat Weekend — the band plays unique set lists so their fans don’t hear the same songs twice. Pantera and Suicidal Tendencies serve as support for some dates, while Limp Bizkit and Ice Nine Kills will open up for others.

Last year, drummer Lars Ulrich told Rolling Stone how exciting it has been for the band to perform songs from 72 Seasons live, especially “Lux Æterna” and “Too Far Gone?” which fly by at breakneck speeds. “Playing these songs live is super fun,” he said. “We’re steering them, they’re not steering us. Certain people choose not to go down particular creative paths if a song can’t be [performed live.] We’ve done eight out of 12 songs so far, and we’ve figured out how to crack all of them in a live situation and feel really good about it.”

Metallica Extends M72 World Tour with 2025 North American Dates and Fans Are Excited: 'Absolutely Not a Drill'

Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Suicidal Tendencies and Ice Nine Kills will join the heavy metal band as opening acts throughout the tour

Ross Halfin

 • Metallica is extending its M72 World Tour
 • The new string of dates will take place in North America throughout spring and summer 2025
 • Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Suicidal Tendencies and Ice Nine Kills will serve as opening acts

Metallica 's massive M72 World Tour isn't slowing down anytime soon.

On Sept. 19, the iconic heavy metal band announced a string of M72 World Tour dates in North America throughout spring and summer 2025 with Pantera, Limp Bizkit, Suicidal Tendencies and Ice Nine Kills joining as opening acts — and fans are ready.

"Metallica and Limp Bizkit are touring together next year this is absolutely not a drill," wrote one X (formerly Twitter) user upon the announcement.

"limp bizkit and metallica is an evil combo I didn't know was even possible I HAVE to go to this," said another fan on the social media platform .

One fan even shared a vulnerable story emphasizing just how important the tour will be for him. "its gonna be real hard to be able to Afford this. But after what I've been throughout the last 4 years of Chemo and this band single handedly kept me alive and still does to this day," he wrote on X. "No way I'm missing this @Metallica @Pantera my 2 favorite Bands of All time!!!"

The new string of dates kicks off with a headlining performance at the Sick New World festival in Las Vegas on April 12, followed by shows in cities including Toronto, Nashville, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Houston and more before wrapping on June 29 at Empower Field at Mile High in Denver.

Taylor Hill/WireImage

Sticking to its established tradition, each weekend featuring two shows in the same city will be labeled a "No Repeat Weekend" and see Metallica perform a different setlist each night, while the opening acts will also alternate, so fans can see everything the M72 World Tour has to offer if they attend both performances.

One show in particular will be extra special. On May 7, Metallica will perform its first-ever show at Lane Stadium in Blacksburg, Virginia — a.k.a. home of the Virginia Tech Hokies, who've played the band's classic song "Enter Sandman" as they take the field for more than 20 years.

Tickets first become available for fan club members on Sept. 23 at 10 a.m. local time. Then, Citi cardmembers and Verizon Access users can get tickets for select dates in two different presale windows, both running from Sept. 24 at 10 a.m. local time through Sept. 26 at 10 p.m. local time.

All other fans can purchase tickets starting Sept. 27 at 10 a.m. local time.

A portion of all ticket sales for the tour will go to local charities through Metallica's All Within My Hands foundation.

The M72 World Tour, held in support of the group's 2023 album 72 Seasons , kicked off April 27, 2023.

DP World Tour pro asks R&A to change rule after bad break, reignites classic Golf Twitter debate

2173144988

Andrew Redington

If you're a golfer, it's certainly happened to you at some point. You hit a perfect drive only to find that your golf ball has settled in a divot. It's a real "Screw you," from the Golf Gods. They can be real sick puppies.

Of course, unless you reguarly play with total psychopaths, you'll probably be allowed to roll your ball out of that hole. But if you're playing in an actual tournament, that's not an option. Enter Pablo Larrazabal.

RELATED: Rory McIlroy has club snap, still hits fantastic shot

The 41-year-old Spaniard was in the midst of a solid opening 71 at the BMW PGA Championship when he was the latest victim of this classic on-course bad break. Still ticked after his round, he went as far as to tweet at one of golf's main governing bodies, the R&A, to change the rule.

Hey, you gotta shoot your shot. That being said, we're pretty sure that Pablo's plea won't change this rule that has been a frequent topic of discussion among the R&A and USGA (and here's why).

But it did reignite the debate on Golf Twitter. Among the nearly 100 replies, it was a pretty even mix of people agreeing with Larrazabal:

And others telling the nine-time DP World Tour winner to suck it up:

Anyway, we feel your pain, Pablo. Well, not really, because we're not world-class tournament golfers who actually have to follow this rule, but you get the point.

'Basically a big one-day Classic' - Matej Mohorič eager to defend Gravel world title weekend after Road Worlds

Slovenian says his form returning to normal after the 'disaster' at the Tour de France

Matej Mohorič of Slovenia celebrates winning elite men's title at 2023 UCI Gravel World Championships in Italy

A two-time men's under-23 world champion on the road just over a decade ago, Matej Mohorič rose to the top again in 2023 as the best elite men's rider at the UCI Gravel World Championship. In advance of his defence for an infrequently-displayed rainbow jersey due to a heavy WorldTour schedule with Bahrain-Victorious, he will flash the stripes at Sea Otter Europe's gravel race in Girona this Saturday.

The 29-year-old will also represent Slovenia to support teammate Tadej Pogačar at UCI Road Worlds in Switzerland on September 29 before he embarks on another conquest on gravel, this time in Leuven, Belgium on October 6 for the 2024 UCI Gravel World Championship .

He recently competed for a third consecutive year in the Canadian pair of UCI races in Montréal and Québec and told Cyclingnews that he was prepared for "two good races" in back-to-back world championships.

"I hope to finish the season on a high with the rest of my races, the gravel race in Girona and then both World Championships road and gravel. I have raced every weekend since the Tour, so it's something I am comfortable with. I know I can do it, I know what to do during the week, then to be ready for Sunday and yeah, I hope I will have two good races," Mohorič told Cyclingnews about his desire to win a second gravel title.

"I'm quite excited [about Gravel World Championships]. I like to race on gravel. It's a little bit different to race on the road, it's a little bit harder. But at the same time, it's also more fun because just the actual nature of riding on gravel, the technical side of it, makes time pass quicker."

This season Mohorič took part in his 12th Grand Tour and joined the club of riders who have won stages in all three events, last year winning his third Tour de France stage on a hilly day in the Haute-Alpes. But this year's Tour was not fruitful, even on stage 9 into Troyes with nine sectors of gravel on the route. He came away with only two stages with finishes in the top 60. At both Tour de Pologne and Renewi Tour he rebounded with top 10s in both GCs.

"I think my form has steadily been going back to normal after the disaster of the Tour, with not feeling well and not being at anywhere close to my normal level. I was well in Poland, but I've not recovered yet fully from the fatigue of the Tour. Then I was better at Renewi - I didn't end up with a top result, but still, I was in the mix," he admitted.

His appearance in June at Unbound Gravel was another disappointment, breaking the rim of a wheel and recording a DNF at his first appearance there. He was eager to ride the 107.2km gravel race at Sea Otter Europe, part of the Trek UCI Gravel World Series , as it could be his last day in the rainbow jersey.

"I liked the vibe of the event, like in general on gravel, all the age categories riders start just after the elite group and we met many, many fans there. We had great fun. It's not the perfect time slot for it because you're in the middle of training for the Tour de France. So it's not super compatible with the road season, but it's definitely something different and nice, I enjoyed it.

"Basically, the course was way gnarlier than what we expected, so we didn't come fully ready with our equipment," he said about the mechanical leading to him withdrawing at the second rest stop.

"I was able to avoid any damage to my bike for quite a long time, but just before halfway through the course, I didn't hit a stone but a rider next to me rode over a stone, and it catapulted, or bulleted, straight into my wheel and broke not just the tyre, but the wheel itself. So my race was pretty much done by then."

Would he go back to Emporia, Kansas? Mohorič laughed when he thought about what to say.

"I think probably on a physical level, I would be able to be in the final with the best riders there. But you never know until you are there. I also never did a race that's so long, so I don't know what happens with my body after seven hours, because I never spent more than seven hours in the saddle.

"So it's easy to be smart and [have a] big mouth about how good you could be in a race, but if you never did a race that long, you can't really know."

He was certain about was he needed to "stay out of trouble and out of mechanicals" to win a second world championship in the new off-road discipline, noting that the new course was set up like a spring Classics route.

"I haven't looked in detail but I was told it's also a nice course, not as hard as the one in Italy. It's basically like a big one-day Classic. It doesn't change much between a gravel race or a hard one-day WorldTour Classic.

"The [2023] World Championships was super hard and quite punchy in the final with long climbs. I actually don't think it [the 2024 course] suits me really well, but we will see," Mohorič said with a laugh when asked if the power profile this year could be an advantage.

"It depends, I think in gravel, you also need to be smooth on the bike and I don't have that much experience, to be honest."

Press Release 17 Sep 2024

Atherley and erm win world athletics combined events tour.

Facebook

Johannes Erm and Michelle Atherley (© Getty Images)

Michelle Atherley and Johannes Erm have been confirmed as the winners of the 2024 World Athletics Combined Events Tour, which rewards their season-long consistency in the heptathlon and decathlon, respectively.

The Combined Events Tour takes each athlete’s best three marks across the series and converts them into result scores (also used as the basis of the world rankings system). Winners of the Combined Events Tour, which features both indoor and outdoor meetings, receive a US$30,000 prize.

The top eight at the end of the season are:

Heptathlon 1 Michelle Atherley (USA) 3466 2 Taliyah Brooks (USA) 3421 3 Emma Oosterwegel (NED) 3421 4 Kate O'Connor (IRL) 3326 5 Vanessa Grimm (GER) 3320 6 Verena Mayr (AUT) 3303 7 Lovisa Karlsson (SWE) 3290 8 Tori West (AUS) 3289 Full standings

Decathlon 1 Johannes Erm (EST) 3661 2 Sander Skotheim (NOR) 3624 3 Heath Baldwin (USA) 3614 4 Sven Roosen (NED) 3599 5 Devon Williams (USA) 3477 6 Felix Wolter (GER) 3454 7 Tim Nowak (GER) 3450 8 Jente Hauttekeete (BEL) 3447 Full standings

Atherley’s highest single heptathlon score of the season came at the Hypomeeting in Gotzis in May, where the US athlete scored a PB of 6465 points to place third. Her results in Gotzis included a PB and meeting record of 12.71 in the 100m hurdles and a PB of 13.67m in the shot put.

She went on to finish fourth at the US Olympic Team Trials with 6391 points and her series also included a 6372-point win at the Mt. SAC Relays in April.

Her US compatriot Taliyah Brooks secured second place in the series. After retaining her title at the Multistars meeting in Brescia in April with a PB-equalling 6330 points, she improved to a PB of 6408 to finish third at the US Olympic Team Trials and then competed at the Olympic Games in Paris, where she was 11th with 6258.

After winning the Combined Events Tour last year, Dutch heptathlete Emma Oosterwegel was third this time but it was incredibly close. She ended the season on 3421 tour points – the same as Brooks – and finished third overall as Brooks had a higher single heptathlon score (6408 to 6386).

That 6386 performance for Tokyo bronze medallist Oosterwegel came on the biggest stage of them all, as she achieved the fifth-best score of her career to finish seventh at the Olympics in Paris. She also finished fourth in Gotzis with 6337 points and second at the season-ending Decastar in Talence on 6273 points.

In the decathlon, Estonia’s Erm had the season of his life. He won the European title in Rome in June, setting a PB of 8764 that put him third on the season top list. His series also included a score of 8462 to finish third at the Hypomeeting in Gotzis and he ended his year on a high, achieving 8589 points to win the Decastar in Talence, where his performance included a big PB of 5.37m in the pole vault.

Alongside those results, Erm also finished sixth at the Paris Olympics and claimed heptathlon bronze at the World Indoor Championships.

Norway’s Sander Skotheim secured a second consecutive runner-up spot in the Combined Events Tour, in a season that was topped by his PB of 8635 to finish second to Erm at the European Championships. He was also runner-up to Erm in Talence, scoring 8517, while his first scoring performance as part of the tour was in the heptathlon in February in Tallinn, where he won with 6281 points. He went on to secure world indoor heptathlon silver in Glasgow.

Claiming third place in the tour was Heath Baldwin, who scored a PB of 8625 to win at the US Olympic Team Trials and then finished 10th at the Paris Olympics with 8422 points. His series also featured a runner-up finish at the Mt. SAC Relays (8470).

Chester Bennington mother Susan Eubanks feels betrayed by new Linkin Park tour reunion and singer Emily Armstrong

Chester Bennington, the late frontman of Linkin Park, performs at the 25th Annual KROQ Almost Acoustic Christmas on Dec. 13, 2014, in Inglewood, Calif. Susan Eubanks, Bennington's mother, told Rolling Stone she feels "betrayed" after Linkin Park announced a reunion tour with a new lead singer, Emily Armstrong, seven years after the band went on hiatus following Bennington's death in 2017. Susan Eubanks, the mother of late Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington, said she feels “betrayed” as the band recently reunited and announced a tour with a new lead singer.

On Sept. 5, Linkin Park announced its reunion with new lead singer Emily Armstrong and its “From Zero” tour , which began Sept. 11 in Los Angeles. The tour marks Linkin Park’s first live performances since going on hiatus following Bennington’s death in 2017. Bennington, who was Linkin Park’s frontman from 1999 to 2017, died by suicide at age 41.

Eubanks said that Linkin Park members had previously promised to notify her if the band planned to continue as a group, but instead was blindsided by the news of Linkin Park’s reunion and tour.

“I feel betrayed,” Eubanks told Rolling Stone . “They told me if they were ever going to do something, they would let me know. They didn’t let me know, and they probably knew that I (wasn’t) going to be very happy. I’m very upset about it.”

Instead, Eubanks said she discovered Armstrong, the former lead singer of Dead Sara, was replacing Bennington as Linkin Park’s lead singer on Google.

“When I go to Google to look for something, the first thing that often pops up is Linkin Park,” she said. “And I saw that whole thing of, ‘We have an announcement.’ That whole week, they were at the top if you go enter anything into Google.”

Linkin Park, as part of its reunion and tour announcement, played a one-hour livestream show on Sept. 5 to celebrate the band’s new chapter. Eubanks said she stumbled upon the performance “not on purpose,” and was critical of Armstrong’s performance as Linkin Park’s new lead vocalist.

“I thought her singing… I don’t even remember what it is [she was singing], because I didn’t want to hear it,” she said. “It was just a moment. But it was her, I’m just going to say it, screeching her way through a very high note. And I got out of there as fast as I could.

“I don’t think that there’s anybody in the world that has the same voice,” Eubanks added, speaking about Bennington. “And when I heard that, I was just so repelled that no, they’re trying to do exactly what Chester did, but they’re not succeeding at it.”

Eubanks’ comments echo those of Bennington’s son, Jaime, who earlier this month criticized Linkin Park for its decision to reunite with a new singer. Jaime said Linkin Park “quietly erased my father’s life and legacy and real time... during international suicide prevention month,” he wrote in a post to Instagram on Sept. 9.

Linkin Park continues its “From Zero” tour on Sunday, Sept. 22 at the Barclays Arena in Hamburg, Germany.
