George W Bush reveals his decision on 2024 endorsement after Cheney snubbed Trump

Former president George W Bush will not make a presidential endorsement in the 2024 race for the White House , according to his office.

The 43rd president will not join his former vice president Dick Cheney , who said last week that he would vote for Democrat Kamala Harris over Republican Donald Trump .

Cheney’s daughter, leading Trump critic and former Republican congresswoman Liz Cheney , has also called on fellow conservatives to vote for Harris in November.

Harris and running mate Tim Walz have courted Republicans who refuse to vote for Trump, with Harris saying in a CNN interview that she would consider appointing a Republican to her cabinet.

Bush’s office said on Saturday that neither he nor former First Lady Laura Bush would endorse a candidate or publicly share how they would vote, according to NBC News.

“President Bush retired from presidential politics years ago,” his office stated.

Bush attended Trump’s inauguration after his 2016 win over Hillary Clinton, and reportedly called his speech “some weird s***.”

A spokesperson after that election said that Bush and his wife did not vote for either Trump or Clinton.

He also refused to endorse Joe Biden or Trump in 2020 and told People that he wrote in Condoleezza Rice’s name. She was Bush’s Secretary of State from 2005 to 2009.

“Dick Cheney will be voting for Kamala Harris,” the former vice president’s daughter said on Friday at the Texas Tribune Festival. “If you think about the moment we’re in, and you think about how serious this moment is, my dad believes — and he said publicly — there has never been an individual in our country who is as grave a threat to our democracy as Donald Trump is.”

Liz Cheney is pushing Republicans who are supporting Trump just for political reasons to come around to her point of view. Anti-Trump Republicans have been buoyed by the excitement surrounding Harris since she ascended to the top of the ticket.

The Harris campaign noted in a press release on Sunday the amount of support from Republicans the vice president has received, such as from Dick and Liz Cheney, her former January 6 Select Committee colleague Adam Kinzinger, former Georgia Lieutenant Governor Geoff Duncan, former Trump White House Press Secretary Stephanie Grisham, and former Mike Pence advisor Olivia Troye.

Kinzinger, Troye, Grisham, and Duncan all spoke during the Democratic National Convention.

The campaign added that Harris has the support of more than 230 alumni of George W Bush, John McCain, and Mitt Romney.

“As hundreds of Republican leaders have already realized, Vice President Harris is offering a New Way Forward for all Americans who reject Donald Trump’s threats to our freedom and his dangerous Project 2025 agenda,” the campaign said. “Between now and Election Day, Team Harris-Walz will continue making the case to conservative, independent, and moderate voters that they have the choice to put their country and democracy first and leave Donald Trump’s toxic chaos and division behind.”

But even as Harris tacks to the middle ahead of election day to appeal to swing state voters, a new poll shows they might not be buying what she’s selling.

A new New York Times /Siena College poll shows Trump leading Harris 48 to 47 percent. The poll states that voters see Trump as closer to the center compared to the vice president, despite Harris’s attempts to appear as the moderate candidate. Almost half of all voters view her as too liberal or progressive, according to the poll.

Harris and Trump are set to spar in their first debate in Pittsburgh on Tuesday night. The highly anticipated debate will be hosted by ABC.

Recording of home visit for alleged Georgia school shooter detail interaction with deputy

JACKSON COUNTY, Ga. (TND) — In the wake of another school shooting, America is learning more about the alleged Georgia school shooter's past . The 14-year-old boy facing a life sentence after four people were shot dead and nine others were hurt by gunfire had a troubled past, according to records obtained by The National Desk .

Colt Gray went to school on Wednesday and left in custody. It's possible, like the four killed in the Apalachee High School shooting, that the teen never returns home. Investigators have not said why they believe the attack happened.

TND obtained a 2023 report that revealed troubling details about Colt Gray and his past with law enforcement. Documents alleged that Colt Gray denied threatening to carry out a school shooting when authorities interviewed him last year about a post on Discord, a social media platform. The origin of the menacing post left investigators to close the case, according to the report.

A transcription of that interview with Colt Gray's father, Colin, revealed the interaction between Colin Gray and investigators with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office on May 21, 2023.

Colin Gray asked investigators to explain the "seriousness of weapons and what they can do and how to use them and not use them" when they talked to his son.

Colin Gray admitted that there were firearms in the home that were used for hunting, according to the report. He told investigators that he was showing Colt Gray about firearms and safety to get him interested in outdoors and away from video games.

"It's kinda of a little bit of a shock so in whatever y'all are telling him, please instill in him that whatever this is, whatever or wherever this is coming from, this is no joke. Like it's no joke," said Colin Gray.

An investigator responded, "But we wouldn't be here if it was."

Colin Gray went on and said, "No, I know, I know, and I'm telling you right now we talk about it quite a bit. All the school shootings, things that happen. I'll hear, you getting picked on at school and is everything okay? That's why I keep going up there, you know, because you just never, you never really know, and I don't want anything to happen to him, so yeah."

A separate transcription of a phone call between Collin Gray and one of the investigators from the home visit alleged that Colt Colin and his father left Colt's mother.

"He just don't... and you know his momma is... to a lot of crap and he just wants to go to school, do his own thing and he doesn't want any trouble," said Colin Gray.

On the call, Colin Gray brought up again to investigators he was aware his son was getting picked on at school.

"I don't want him to fight anybody, but they just keep like pinching him and touching him and that's a whole different deal. And it's just escalated to point where like his finals were last week and that was a lasting on his mind. So I'm frustrated with... the whole school handled all that. He wants to move out of the school district. He's going through a lot. He's you know he, he just wants us to have a simple life. All that like he should be excited about getting into 8th grade. It was just very difficult for him to go to school and not get picked on by you know it went from one thing to another to you know he was talking to a couple of friends he has. I was trying to get him on the golf team. Like, Oh look Colt's gay . He's dating that guy. Just ridiculed him day after day after day . And then y'all show up and he's he just like just really weighing on him. So I'm, I'm like you know I just wanna figure out what, that's why I asked you just keep up to speed on what's going on because he, he's the kind..."

The investigator then interrupted Colin Gray and told him, "I don't have any like suspicions about Colt or anything like that... My goal is to not leave any stone unturned in regards to this."

During the phone conversation, Colin Gray tells the investigator that he introduced bow hunting, a pellet gun and then a .22 and gun safety to his son.

"I worry about him and school and you know what would ever happen," said Colin Gray.

Thursday night, Georgia Bureau of Investigation Director Chris Hosey announced that Colin Gray was arrested for knowingly allowing his son to possess a weapon during a news conference.

"His charges are directly connected with the actions of his son and allowing him to possess a weapon," said Hosey.

Colt Gray who is being charged as an adult with four counts of murder appeared in court Friday morning for a bond hearing. An attorney for the teen declined to seek bail. Minutes later, his father entered the same courtroom before the judge.

A preliminary hearing was scheduled for the father and son. Both, who remain in custody, will be back in the courtroom in December for the deaths of Mason Schermerhorn and Christian Angulo, both 14, Richard Aspinwall, 39, and Cristina Irimie, 53.

Flooding sweeps away a bus and a bridge collapses in Vietnam as storm deaths rise to 59

HANOI, Vietnam — A bridge collapsed and a bus was swept away by flooding Monday as more rain fell following a typhoon in Vietnam that has caused at least 59 deaths in the Southeast Asian country and disrupted businesses and factories in the export-focused northern industrial hubs, state media reported.

Nine people died when  Typhoon Yagi  made landfall in Vietnam on Saturday before weakening to a tropical depression, and at least 50 others have died in the consequent floods and landslides, state media VN Express reported. The water levels of several rivers in northern Vietnam were dangerously high.

A passenger bus carrying 20 people was swept into a flooded stream by a landslide in mountainous Cao Bang province Monday morning. Rescuers were deployed, but landslides blocked their path.

In Phu Tho province, rescue operations were continuing after a steel bridge over the engorged Red River collapsed Monday morning. Reports said 10 cars and trucks along with two motorbikes fell into the river. Three people were pulled out of the river and taken to the hospital, but 13 others were missing.

Pham Truong Son, 50, told VNExpress that he was driving on the bridge on his motorcycle when he heard a loud noise. Before he knew what was happening, he was falling into the river. “I felt like I was drowned to the bottom of the river,” Son told the newspaper, adding that he managed to swim and hold on to a drifting banana tree to stay afloat before he was rescued.Dozens of businesses in Haiphong province had not resumed production by Monday because of the extensive damage to their factories, reported state media Lao Dong newspaper. The report said that the roofs of several factories were blown apart while water had seeped into industrial units, damaging finished goods and expensive equipment. Some companies said they still did not have electricity on Monday and that it would take at least a month to be able to resume production.

Toppled electricity poles meant that Haiphong and Quang Ninh provinces were still without power on Monday. The two provinces are industrial hubs, housing many factories that export goods, including EV maker VinFast and Apple suppliers Pegatrong and USI. Authorities are still assessing the damage to industrial units, but initial estimates show that nearly 100 enterprises were damaged by the typhoon, resulting in losses amounting to millions of dollars, the newspaper reported.

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh visited the city of Haiphong on Sunday and approved a package of $4.62 million to help the port city recover.

Typhoon Yagi was the strongest typhoon to hit Vietnam in decades when it made landfall Saturday with winds up to 92 miles per hour. It weakened Sunday, but the country’s meteorological agency warned that the continuing downpours could cause floods and landslides.

On Sunday, a landslide killed six people including an infant and injured nine others in the town of Sa Pa, a popular trekking base known for its terraced rice fields and mountains. Overall, state media reported 21 deaths and at least 299 people injured from the weekend.Skies were overcast in the capital, Hanoi, with occasional rain Monday morning as workers cleared the uprooted trees, fallen billboards and toppled electricity poles. Heavy rain continued in northwestern Vietnam and forecasters said it could exceed 15 inches in places.

Yagi also damaged agricultural land where rice is mostly grown.

Before hitting Vietnam, Yagi caused at least 20 deaths in the Philippines and four deaths in southern China.

Chinese authorities said infrastructure losses across the island province of Hainan amounted to $102 million with 57,000 houses collapsed or damaged, power and water outages and roads damaged or impassable due to fallen trees. Yagi made a second landfall in Guangdong, a mainland province neighboring Hainan, on Friday night.

Storms like Typhoon Yagi are “getting stronger due to climate change, primarily because warmer ocean waters provide more energy to fuel the storms, leading to increased wind speeds and heavier rainfall,” said Benjamin Horton, director of the Earth Observatory of Singapore.

Taylor Frankie Paul says her relationship with Dakota Mortensen has changed significantly since their time as cast members on "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives ."

"Things have gotten a lot better. We’re obviously far from the end goal, because we come in (to the relationship) with such baggage, and now we’re doing TV and a lot comes with that," the influencer recently told TODAY.com.

Paul is credited as the creator of #MomTok, the loose coalition of Mormon influencers who have built up independent followings on TikTok and other social media platforms, but also collaborate.

She also was responsible for its implosion in 2022, when she released a TikTok Live saying she and her ex-husband, Tatum Paul, were involved in "soft swinging" with other group members. The show's other cast members have denied participating.

The reality series gives a look into her relationship with her current partner, Mortensen. Speaking to TODAY.com, she said they have taken action to strength their bond.

"We’re in couples therapy and coaching, so they’re kind of helping us to communicate and learn all these things while taking on the loud noise, which is really cool," she said.

Paul announced her divorce from Tate Paul in a May 2022 TikTok Live video. The former couple shares two children.

In the same video, Paul revealed she and her ex-husband had participated in "soft swinging" with other couples in their Mormon community. Paul and her husband had boundaries, which she admitted to breaching.

The TikToker introduced Mortensen as the "guy she cheated with" in a July 2022 video.

Paul and Mortensen conceived a baby that same year. Paul revealed in a November 022 TikTok  that she had an ectopic pregnancy, which occurs when the fertilized egg implants outside the uterus and the pregnancy is not viable, per the Mayo Clinic .

The couple went on to conceive another child and welcomed a son named Ever True in March 2024. Paul's pregnancy, including her baby shower, is chronicled in "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives."

What happens between them on the show?

Viewers of "The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives" witness Paul and Mortensen navigating their relationship and preparing for the birth of their child.

In the series, Paul's family and friends expressed concern over the couple's volatile communication style, which is on display in a fighting scene that leads to Paul's arrest.

Paul was arrested in February 2023 on charges including assault and committing domestic violence when a child was present. She reached a plea deal in her assault case in late August 2023. She pled guilty to aggravated assault, and the other charges against her were dismissed with prejudice, meaning they were permanently dismissed, according to court documents viewed by  The Salt Lake Tribune .

In an interview with TODAY.com , the TikToker reflected on a moment of turmoil in her relationship, though didn't explicitly refer to the arrest.

“I forgot the cameras were there and Dakota and I got into a fight.... My true emotions come out and I think I got a little angry and open up. I think that’s the first time I share what’s going on in my head. Not that I regret doing that. It opened up to be honest about what was going on. Maybe I regret how I said it,” she said.

During Paul's pregnancy, Mortensen was eager to engaged. However, Paul was hesitant to take their relationship to the next level and cited "lies" he told her at the beginning of their relationship as one of the main reasons.

In a confessional interview, she recalled a time at the beginning of their relationship when they weren't exclusively dating yet. Paul said Mortensen lied about hanging out with his male friends but later admitted that he hooked up with another woman that night.

"I've been honest that I'm not ready to progress because I'm scared something else is gonna come out. But do you blame me?" she asked.

Meanwhile, Mortensen said that Paul regularly "self-sabotaged" their relationship.

The series ends on a cliffhanger for Paul and Mortensen

Mayci neeley, one of paul's #momtok friends, said she's "protective" of paul's relationship with mortensen in one episode of "the secret lives of mormon wives.".

Neeley, Paul and Mortensen have a heart-to-heart conversation in one episode and air out their feelings.

However, Neeley ends the season by calling a woman who claims to have "accidentally slept with" Mortensen before she knew that he was dating Paul.

How is their relationship today?

Despite Neeley's revelations, Paul said she and Mortensen are together.

Paul told TODAY.comthey're in a "good" place today. She also noted that Mortensen and her ex-husband "get along."

“They’re buddies, you know, and I’m buddies with (Tate’s) partner,” she said. “I don’t know if that makes anyone uncomfortable, but that’s OK, because I think it’s part of my story. It’s authentic.”

Paul, who still has videos of her ex-husband posted on her social media, said he will always play a role in her life.

“It’s still such a part of my story, my life. It’s my my kids’ dad,” she said. “So (Tate) is still going to always be an important figure in their lives and mine.”
