What we say...

The EX-1 model has a chunky feel and top line, but produces very solid, high-launching shots with plenty of power. A hollow box cavity moves weight back from the face for a solid, consistent feel, and the hollow core allows for a deeper centre of gravity, a larger sweetspot and reduced vibration on impact. Not everyone liked the looks, but these were a very consistent performer from an up-and-coming golf manufacturer, and we feel they are a great choice for low to mid-handicappers due to the ease of power and high launch we got with them.

A traditional blade appearance with a hollow box cavity. The Tour Edge Exotics EX-1 chemically bonds a tungsten sole to a steel head, placing 38 per cent of the clubhead's weight for a low centre of gravity sole.

Tour Edge Exotics iron set Review

Tour Edge Exotics EXS Iron Set Review

If you’re like most golfers you don’t know too much about the cure egg brand. Luckily this Tour Edge Exotics iron set review is on hand to tell you everything you need to know about these awesome game improvement irons.

Tour Edge Exotics EXS Iron Features

Spiderweb technology.

The first feature we’re going to cover of these tour edge exotic EXO ass irons is there spiderweb technology. This technology works to act as a spiderweb behind the club face enlarging the sweet spot making it easier for golfers to make quality contact.

This increase sweet spot is incredibly helpful for beginner or high handicap golfer’s. The larger sweet spot means if you’re not hitting the ball quite in the centre of the club you can still receive a great result.

LaunchPad Technology

The second feature we’re going to cover on these irons is there launchpad technology. These irons are fit with a polymer coating that works to improve the performance of the irons face.

The irons are coded with a special performance gel. It works to increase the spring effect as well as absorb shock. This feature will increase the ball speed as it leaves your club. As well as reduce shock and vibrations you will feel in your hands if you happen to hit the ball thin.

Extreme Toe Weighing

The extreme towing is another fantastic feature of these irons that make them great for beginners. This heavy toll waiting increases the forgiveness of this club by growing the Sweet Spot.

A 19 g tungsten weight is placed on the toe of this iron. What this does is increase the forgiveness of the iron. Therefore giving you quality results even if the ball is slightly miss hit.

Hollow Body Cavity

The hollow body cavity is yet another feature that makes these two were edge irons perfect for someone looking to improve their golf game. The hollow body cavity provide perimeter waiting and face flex in order to make the club more forgiving.

By allowing the face to flex you will not feel the iron spin in your hands. This is another aspect of this club that allows you to get some solid results. Even if the ball is hit off center.

Thin Top Line

The thin top line is more of an aesthetic feature that is built into these golf clubs. Since these are irons built for game improvement they often have a much thicker build. With a thinner top line this model will look more like an iron upon address giving you more confidence when addressing the ball .

Cost And Value

One of the best benefits of these clubs is their extremely low price tag. As of writing this these irons are currently priced just under $500. Receiving a brand new iron set for under $500 is significantly lower than average.

This makes this set a fantastic option for any golfers that are seriously looking to improve their golf game without breaking the bank.

Frequently Asked Questions About Tour Edge Exotics Irons

Are there multiple flex options for these irons?

Yes one grace aspect of these irons from tour edge is that they are offered in five different flex options. Those options are snior, regular, stiff, extra stiff, and A flex.

What are the staff material options for these irons?

With these irons you were able to choose between a steel or a graphite shaft.

Are these clubs good for a beginner golfer?

Yes, these clubs are perfect for a beginner golfer. As you could see through our features portion of our view the build of this club is highly tailor towards those that are looking for more consistency.

The word forgiveness which came up a lot throughout her review is exactly what is needed for beginner golfers. This is allows them to get a more consistent result when hitting the ball and therefore makes the game much more fun.

As long as the beginner golfer is not a junior as of average height then these two were edge irons are a great option.

Would these clubs be good as a gift?

In order to determine if these clubs will be a good gift you need to determine what level of golfer you were buying for. If this person has been golfing all their life and has high-quality clubs and they likely won’t want to replace their iron set with a game improvement irons like these.

But if you are looking for the first set of clubs for a golfer that is looking to dive into the game Then these tour edge EXS irons are a fantastic option.

“First Impressions” – Tour Edge Exotics EXS Irons

tour edge exotics ex 1 irons specs

When news started to pour out from Batavia, Illinois based golf equipment manufacturer Tour Edge about their new Exotics EXS range of products I was very excited. Premium products built from premium material. The range includes everything from their driver (which scored very well for a Top Driver Teezy Award) to a set of irons. Between the technology that’s packed into the Exotics EXS line and the attractive price point that accompany them, there is much to be excited about when looking at the EXS range of products.

One of the manufacturers that I was really excited to swing at the 2019 PGA Show Merchandise Demo Day was in fact Tour Edge. Already having had the opportunity to test and review the Tour Edge Exotics EXS 4 hybrid late in 2018 (EXS 4 Hybrid Review here) my appetite was whet in anticipation at the prospect of what the rest of the range was like. Especially, the Exotics EXS irons. The tagline that Tour Edge is using for this range (“Pound for Pound… Nothing Comes Close”) surely resonated with me. Here’s why.

The Pre-Shot Routine

The Exotics EXS irons by Tour Edge are packed with a ton of technology. One of the trends that we’re seeing in the golf industry is that of iron sets consisting of hollow-body construction. The EXS irons are no exception.

Exotics EXS irons feature a forged Cup Face with what Tour Edge refers to as “SpiderWeb VFT Technology” . The result? An expanded sweet spot that allows for more forgiveness which in turn enhances the golfer experience. Especially on strikes that are not… “Optimum”. Also noteworthy is the fact that the face construction is the thinnest that Tour Edge has ever used. The long irons 4-7 are the irons that feature the hollow body construction whilst the short irons 8-PW feature an undercut cavity design. A key point in the short irons is what Tour Edge calls “LaunchPad Technology” . LaunchPad Technology is a polymer that Tour Edge used to absorb vibration, enhance the feel and create more “trampoline effect”. This effect aids in providing a higher ball exit velocity which theoretically equates to more distance.

techlayer

What good is a game-improvement iron if it doesn’t feature perimeter weighting? Perimeter weighting has become an integral part of the golf manufacturing industry when it comes to the design of irons. Once thought to be used predominantly in game-improvement irons we’ve seen the use of Tungsten perimeter weighting in what many would now describe as player’s irons. The EXS irons are no exception as Tour Edge R&D placed a 19-gram toe weight to further address forgiveness and playability. Higher M.O.I equals more resistance to twisting and “elongates the sweet spot”.

Technology points don’t simply “end” in the design of the head. Stock shafts offered in both graphite and steel. The options are none other than the Tensei CK Blue 2G Series by Mitsubishi Chemical (MCA). This shaft (also featured in the EXS Hybrid) combines the best of Kevlar, Carbon Fiber and other lightweight materials. Shaft weights vary depending on the flex of the shaft (60-80 grams). Or in the case of the steel option, the KBS Max 80 is available in either a Regular or Stiff flex and Tour Edge opted to choose the venerable Lamkin Grips UTx grip.

The Transition

(Demo Day Conditions – Sunny, Windy (left to right) and Warm. Tested with the MCA Tensei CK Blue 2G Series in Stiff flex)

Aesthetics – First things first. I just wanted to point out that in a way these irons reminded me a little bit of their EXi irons introduced a couple of product cycles ago.

That said, these irons look mean and remind me of a “Muscle Car” from the 50s-60s. Maybe like a 1957 Chevrolet Belair? When looking at them from the perspective of the golf bag view (cavity view) they look fast and they look powerful. Raw horsepower! I love the colorway of these irons with the silver and black badge on the back but the “pop” of blue just further adds to the aesthetic value of these irons (see picture below).

top cast

The looks are very attractive in the address position. The blade length is neither too long nor is it too short. At the risk of sounding like “Golfilocks” the blade length was just right. The blade length inspires confidence at address and the ball sets up great behind the head. What I really like from the address position is the top line. It is quite thin for game-improvement irons and I found the EXS irons to be very attractive overall. Personally speaking, I feel that the EXS irons may very well be the best-looking iron set in its category.

Performance –  Make no bones about it. The EXS irons are premier performers . Quite honestly, it all boils down to the initial thoughts I had regarding their looks (in the address position). Looking down at them, I felt so confident that I was going to see good results that the confidence went straight to my hands and arms. Quite honestly, at that point, I hadn’t really made a ton of swings with any clubs. I was still finding my way (and my swing) post-Stroke and I really had no clue what swing was going to show up at Demo Day. My first swing resulted in a well-struck 8-iron that seemed to penetrate the left to right wind. The feel on that first strike was so crisp and more importantly, the ball flight didn’t “balloon”. The wind did not affect the ball flight. It just held up and on its intended line.

Divots were crisp and that could be contributed to the design of the sole which is called a “Ramped Sole” . The sole is designed to provide better turf interaction and heel relief. More relief means less likelihood of the club getting entangled with the turf.

Distance. Without having any sort of launch monitor data I cannot give specific numbers. That’s why I tout being the “Home of Organic Golf Reviews”. Using my senses (sight, sound, touch) has allowed me to differentiate differences from club to club. These irons are “hot” and “long”. The thin cup face sounds “mean” and you know that you’ve struck the golf ball based on the crisp “thwack” at impact. The sound and feel are very “solid” and it’s very noticeable in the hollow-bodied longer irons. The Tungsten weighting in the toe as far as I’m concerned served its purpose very well and not only did it help to prevent twisting but it seemed like squaring the face was achieved very easily. These irons are long… I need to point out that I turned myself around to hit into the wind as best as I could. I need to point out one important fact about the EXS irons.

*** The iron lofts are strong!! For comparison sake the PW is an astounding 42*. If you trap the ball as you should you’ll de-loft the club more.

While I will not go as far as suggesting that the EXS irons have a blade-like profile I will say that the minimal offset and thinner top-line nearly suggests that it is. The result is a golf club that you can control and shot-shape with ease. Cut, draw, high, and low all shots are easily achieved. Flighting the ball is a “breeze”. My typical shot shape is straight to a baby draw and it was no exception with the EXS irons. The MCA Tensei CK Blue 2G shafts were smooth and quite honestly as expected based on my previous experience using this shaft. it is Tour-proven.

What a fantastic set of irons!

There are iron sets that have given me a great first impression. The Exotics EXS irons were consummate. A total blend of looks, power, feel, and performance. This is an iron set that will benefit golfers of all skill levels. I’m talking Scratch all the way to a 25-handicap. The Exotics EXS irons scored and impressive. Iron sets start from $499.99 USD and come in a variety of set compositions 5-PW to 7-PW/AW/GW/SW.

Tour Edge has packed a ton of technology into these irons and I have no doubt in my mind that they might be the irons that are in fact “Pound for Pound” the best. There’s a reason why these irons won their category for the Teezy Awards. The Exotics EXS irons scored 38.5 out of 40 points. I really think that these irons would warrant further testing on-course! Range time is one thing… On-course is another. If you’re in the market for new irons in 2019 these would be worth a look. For more information on these Exotics EXS irons please visit  Tour Edge.

Until The Next Tee!!

2019 Tour Edge Exotics EXS Iron Review

tour edge exotics ex 1 irons specs

www.TourEdge.com

$800 Graphite / $700 Steel

Unique Features:  The Tour Edge Exotics EXS Irons are a hollow-body iron set. The EXS Irons have a forged Cup Face with SpiderWeb Variable Face Thickness Technology that significantly expands the sweet spot in every direction.  The forged cup face is extremely light and thin, resulting in unparalleled ball speed. The EXS Irons toe has a 19-gram tungsten weight that elongates the sweet spot to further maximize forgiveness.  A distinct ramped sole design, where a raised middle section accentuates heel and toe relief areas for better movement through the turf. The loft gaps are smaller in the long irons (2.5 degrees between the 4- and 5-rions, then spacing to three degrees and transitioning to five degrees between short irons for more ideal distance gaps in the short irons).

Tester Comments:   The strong lofted irons have plenty of distance and forgiveness … Very hot iron with a nice solid sound … Very straight and high flying … … Distance was right up there with the other major distance irons in the market.

Our verdict on the latest game improvement iron from Tour Edge aimed at the mid-to-high handicapper

Tour Edge Exotics E723 Iron Review

This set is a no-brainer for higher handicaps to consider when buying. This category of golfers should find everything appealing about the irons, right down to the feel, performance, distance and price.

Pleasing impact feel

Powerful flight

A little bulky looking

Why you can trust Golf Monthly Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

The E in the name stands for Extreme, as this club emphasizes extreme performance, distance and forgiveness. This ultra-premium, very sleek-looking, game-improvement iron is loaded with technology – like its sibling C723 irons . Each iron contains VIBRCOR – which is a TPU that’s strategically injected into the hollow body, deep 360-degree undercut pocket to provide excellent feel.

It also features visible VIBRCOR on the back of the clubhead – which dampens impact vibration, shock and sound to improve feel. The Diamond Face VFT comprises 92 diamond shapes of three different thicknesses behind the face that act as mini-trampolines – creating faster ball speed and expanding the sweet spot to the outer areas of the face. So every shot feels like you nutted it, regardless of where the ball makes contact with the face.

Tour Edge Exotics E723 Iron at address

The view at address gives you confidence that you can manhandle the ball around the course with ease. There’s a slight bulge low and an inviting amount of offset. It’s an iron intended mainly for higher handicaps . That said, our testers were lower handicaps. And their experience was pleasantly surprising – except for the thicker topline at address, which is aimed for lesser-skilled players who need the visual confidence that there’s some muscle behind their shots. And not that you’re seeing it standing over the ball, but the rear of the clubhead just looks kind of busy, with a black weaved graphite kind of window. The clubface of the irons looks nearly – if not exactly – identical to that of the sister C723 irons.

All of that said, the clubs were surprisingly easy to swing and effortless to perform well. No kidding: Our first shot using the irons was a 6-iron against the wind on a 180-yard par-3. The ball landed just five feet from the pin, to which the other players in our group suggested switching to this set immediately. Of course, that was hit off of a tee – so that’s usually easier than off the ground.

The remainder of our testing were then irons struck directly off the turf – from rough and fairway. And they were all super-easy to hit, taking divots or picking it clean didn’t matter. The shots felt solid, got lots of distance and trajectory, and in the name of the “E for Extreme” mantra were plenty forgiving, one of the most forgiving irons we've tested recently in fact. The irons were given to us for testing with Mitsubishi Tensei AV Series 65-gram graphite shafts - the retail price with these for a set is just $800, which is a snip considering the performance and enjoyment we experienced when using them.

Tour Edge's new Exotics iron line: What you need to know

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Tour Edge C723 iron.jpg

BRIAN MACDONALD

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: Tour Edge’s latest Exotics iron line features the C723 for a more accomplished player and uses a hollow-body design and L-face to create speed, while the E723 uses weighting out on the toe to, in effect, expand the sweet spot. Two other irons inspired by the company’s tour staff—the Pro 723 Forged and BL Proto—are aimed at players who find face center more frequently than most.

PRICE/AVAILABILITY: Cost for the C723 irons is $130 per iron in steel and $145 per iron in graphite. The E723 is $100 per iron in steel and $115 per iron in graphite. The Pro 723 Forged goes for $170 per iron and is available in steel only. All will be available at retail March 1. No price or release date has been set for the BL Proto irons at this time.

tour edge exotics ex 1 irons specs

This is a lot of club for the money. At a time when many irons are going for $200 a stick, these are half that. Thermoplastic urethane is inserted behind the lower portion of the face. That saves weight that is used for a toe-weight pocket to assist shots hit out in that area—a place many middle-handicappers routinely find. The variable-thickness face is complex, with more than 100 diamond shapes in three thicknesses. Why the different shapes and thicknesses? Because shots hit on the heel and toe behave differently than center strikes, but you want the result to be as consistent as possible across the entire face.

More on this club

3 Cool Things

1. An iron for competition. As it is aimed at better players, the C723 received a makeover with a clubhead shape that is 5 percent smaller through a shorter blade length and thinner topline. The compact shape, however, belies the fact there is serious horsepower as this iron features a maraging-steel L-face cup where part of the face wraps around the sole of the club to generate added face flex on shots struck low on the face.

That face, which also uses a diamond-face variable thickness pattern, also is thinner on the heel and toe areas (just 2.1 millimeters). “That helped reduce the face weight by 2.5 grams due to thinning some of the diamond shapes,” said Matt Neely, Tour Edge’s vice president of product development. The face is plasma welded to the 17-4 stainless-steel body creating a hollow-body design where the face has room to flex.

The use of the “Vibrcor” thermoplastic urethane inside the head helps damp the sound and eliminate the slight “click” sound that was found on the C722 model.

2. E is for everyone. The E723 builds upon its predecessor with many of the same base technologies yet several significant enhancements. Chief among them was a change to a one-piece casting that is akin to a hollow-body iron. That allowed for more of the thermoplastic urethane to be injected inside the clubhead in the lower portion of the face.

Dual toe weighting moves weight in a manner that has the effect of expanding the sweet spot and boosting the moment of inertia, helping to mitigate the loss of ball speed on shots struck out on the toe.

For the face, Tour Edge continues with its diamond-face variable-thickness design in which different-sized diamond shapes act as mini-trampolines to foster higher ball speeds across a wider portion of the face, including reduced thickness in the heel and toe areas to mitigate the loss of ball speed on off-center strikes.

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Tour Edge 723 Pro Forged iron.jpg

3. Pros only (including Bernhard). In addition to the two mainstream irons, Tour Edge has two additional irons borne out of feedback from its tour staff, with one relying almost exclusively on the desires of its flagship player, Bernhard Langer.

More on that iron in a bit. First, the Exotics Pro 723 Forged is a slightly larger forged cavity-back with a shape better players could appreciate.

After forging, each iron in the set takes more than an hour to go through the CNC milling process to ensure tight tolerances on the face and grooves. The heel and toe pockets in the cavity are also CNC milled to offer the thinnest face possible without sacrificing feel.

Helping that feel is a thick pad of steel in the center of the cavity behind the face. The added weight in this location allows for more flex on center hits while producing the kind of pleasing feel better players require.

/content/dam/images/golfdigest/fullset/2020/08/Tour Edge BL Proto iron.jpg

As for the Exotics BL Proto iron, Tour Edge chief designer David Glod worked directly with Langer to refine a set the two-time Masters champion first put in play at Augusta National in 2022. That includes the use of a pair of tungsten plugs directly behind the face in the long irons to put more mass in the hitting area. The irons, which will extremely limited (about 100 sets) also feature a fair amount of offset despite being a blade-style iron—a trait Langer has log preferred.
