The easiest way to check train times whilst on the move is by using the live tracker on our app or website , for a detailed view of current disruptions across the UK rail network please view our rail status page .

If your train is cancelled at least 48 hours in advance and we email you to let you know , you can use your current ticket to travel on the two services before or after your train that are run by the same train company as your original booking.

Flexible tickets such as Off-Peak and Anytime tickets also offer further flexibility allowing you to travel at various times of the day. Remember to check the conditions of your ticket in case you can only travel with a certain operator/ route.

• Advance Singles – you can use your current ticket to travel on the service directly before or after your train that are run by the same train company as your original booking..
• Flexible tickets – such as Off-Peak and Anytime tickets offer flexibility and you can travel at various times of the day.

Remember to check the conditions of your ticket in case you can only travel with a certain operator/ route.

If this doesn’t work for you and you can no longer travel, you’ll be entitled to a refund.

If you are making a return journey and only one leg of your journey is affected, we can offer a fee-free refund or change of journey for both legs of your trip. This also applies if you have two single tickets that together form a return journey.

The quickest and easiest way to refund your ticket is to do it online. Login to My Bookings , select your booking, and click on refund tickets.

The rules above apply, there may also be changes to your ticket validity to allow for travel on the days before or after the strike day, please check your date of travel on our dedicated strike page .

People are urged to avoid train travel amid the latest bout of 48-hour strike action, as more snow is forecast and many homes are left without power.

People woke up to snowy scenes across the UK this morning.

The cold and wintry conditions are set to continue for days.

Police are searching for a man who has been missing for three days without a coat in freezing conditions.

Rodrigo Falcon was last seen in the Highlands around 3.10am on Sunday - he had no coat and was wearing only a jumper and baggy jeans.

The 33-year-old disappeared while a Met Office yellow warning for snow and ice was in place for much of Scotland.

Chief Inspector Alasdair McLeod, south Highland area commander, said: "As time goes on we are growing increasingly concerned for the welfare of Rodrigo.

"It is obvious from the response we have had that there is great concern in the community for his well-being and I would like to thank the local community for their assistance so far.

"Local officers, along with specialist officers, are continuing to carry out extensive searches."

He added: "We are also identifying further CCTV opportunities in the area and in particular would welcome assistance from local businesses or residents who may have private CCTV.

"As part of our inquiries, it has been established that Rodrigo was not wearing his brown woollen coat, but was seen on CCTV wearing his red jumper and baggy jeans with no coat.

"He is described as being 5ft 6in tall, of slim build, with dark hair cut in a mullet style with a moustache and beard."

A yellow weather warning has been issued for snow and ice across central and southern parts of Scotland.

The Met Office warning begins at 6am on Friday and will last until midnight.

Newspaper distribution experienced a significant disruption overnight.

The distribution of papers including The Times and THe Sun may flow on into delivery delays "in many parts of the country".

In a statement News UK said severe weather in the South East had impacted Newsprinters in Broxbourne.

"We apologise to retailers and customers who are not able to get a copy of their usual newspaper. Newsprinters will make continued efforts to deliver newspapers to retailers during Monday," the statement said. 

Transport Secretary Mark Harper has defended the response of the highways authorities after motorists were left stranded on the M25 during the cold snap.

He told LBC Radio: "My understanding, having listened to what National Highways have said, is a very significant amount of gritting did take place.

"But of course, that doesn't mean that you can deal with the consequences of the fact that it was a very severe cold snap and there was heavy snow across the country."

He added: "Sometimes when you get heavy snow and you don't get a lot of traffic on the motorway, you do get the snow settling and it does cause congestion.

"But I know the staff of National Highways worked incredibly hard to try and keep the roads moving and get the strategic road network up and running as soon as we could after the bad weather."

Airline easyJet is "doing everything possible" to ease disruption for passengers caused by the weather.

Several flights at Luton and Gatwick airports have been cancelled today because of snow.

A spokeswoman said: "Airlines operating to and from the UK today are experiencing some disruption to their flying programmes due to adverse weather, with a number of cancellations at Luton and Gatwick airports which are both affected by snow.

"Flights were also affected yesterday as snow closures affected Manchester, Liverpool, London Gatwick and London Luton airports with some flight cancellations and diversions.

"We are doing all possible to minimise the disruption for our customers, including providing hotel rooms and meals for those passengers affected by the cancellations.

"Customers on cancelled flights have been provided the option of a free transfer to an alternative flight or a refund.

"While this is outside of our control, we would like to apologise to customers for the inconvenience caused as a result of the weather."

Some people on the Shetland could be without electricity for the rest of the week, the local council leader has warned.

Councillor Emma Macdonald, leader of Shetland Islands Council, said wet and heavy snow had brought down power lines and poles.

"We don't normally get much snow, we get a lot of wind and gales, and it has had a significant impact," she said.

"We have so many lines down and people could be without electricity until the end of the week."

She added: "About 70 engineers have come across on the boat and they are doing everything they can, but it is a challenging task as the weather is poor and the wind is picking up.

"It's not the fault of the power company, they are doing everything they can to get connected.

"We are a resilient community and are often cut off during the winter if the ferry doesn't run.

"We do all pull together."

Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) Distribution is working to restore supplies to about 2,800 homes in Shetland, but has apologised as it warned that full restoration was only likely by the end of the week.

The Scottish Government declared a major incident for Shetland on Tuesday after thousands of homes were left without power on Monday evening following significant snowfall.

More engineers are due to arrive in Shetland on the ferry from Aberdeen on Wednesday to help restore power.

SSEN spokesman Graeme Keddie told BBC Radio Scotland's Good Morning Scotland programme: "Firstly I'd like to apologise to those customers still without power and reassure them that we are making every effort to get to them."

He added: "This morning, as of overnight, we have 2,800 homes without power across Shetland. We made very good progress yesterday reconnecting 1,000 homes and hope to make continued progress today, particularly as the travel situation we talked about, the flights restarting, and also we've got 15 additional line crews are coming over on this morning's freight ferry and more by helicopter so that will make a real difference to restoration efforts.

"This has been a very concentrated and explosive  weather  event on Shetland which was far more severe than forecast.

"The local teams have said this is the worst they've seen since 1995 over the Christmas period."

M62 shuts both ways as drivers warned of major traffic disruption

A stretch of motorway in Greater Manchester will be shut again this weekend as work to replace a railway bridge continues.

The M62 has now closed in both directions around Rochdale , Heywood and Middleton from 9pm tonight (September 20) until 6am on Monday (September 23). It is the second weekend this month that the motorway will been shut as the Castleton bridge is replaced.

The last closure two weeks ago resulted in huge tailbacks and congestion. It comes as Network Rail replaces a railway bridge that runs through Castleton, carrying trains over the M62 between Manchester and Rochdale as part of a £22m project.

Highways bosses are urging drivers planning to use the M62 this weekend to delay their journey or plan a different route.

Gary Farrell, National Highways' senior network planner, said: "During the first weekend closure we had significant if unsurprising congestion at times on the approaches to the closure along both the clockwise M60 and westbound M62 as well as the diversion routes. This weekend, queues are likely again along the M60, M62 and diversion routes especially during the day and we strongly urge people planning to travel to delay their journeys or use alternative routes well away from this part of the motorway network.

"At the very least people should be checking for congestion or incidents before setting out and leaving extra time for journeys."

This weekend, the M62 will be closed eastbound from junction 18 at Simister Island to junction 20 at Rochdale, while the westbound carriageway will be closed between junction 20 and junction 19 at Heywood. Drivers heading east are being asked to get off to junction 21 of the M60 at Chadderton , then use the northbound A663 (Broadway) and northbound A627M to join the M62 at junction 20.

Westbound traffic is being diverted off the M62 at junction 20, onto the southbound A627(M), then the A664 and A6046 to re-join the M62 at junction 19.

Olivia Boland, Network Rail sponsor, said: "We understand this motorway closure this will cause disruption, and we thank passengers and motorists for their patience and cooperation. Please check before you travel on the M62 or between Manchester and Rochdale this weekend."

"The second phase of the Castleton bridge replacement is essential for the continued safe running of our railway and to ensure the transportation of 6 per cent of the UK’s energy supply remains secure."

David Hunter, Network Rail's senior freight manager, said: "Castleton bridge plays a vital role in the country’s freight network. It supports key freight routes across the Pennines, enabling the safe transport of essential materials for construction and the delivery of biomass to Drax power station, which provides power to the national grid."

Steve Mason, north west programme delivery manager at National Highways, said: "The collaboration between Network Rail and National Highways highlights our commitment to minimising disruption for both rail and road users during this essential project.

"National Highways is actively working with Network Rail to communicate the impact on road users and ensure a smooth process during this important upgrade."
