Uttarakhand Tourism / उत्तराखंड, उत्तर भारत में स्थित एक राज्य है जिसका निर्माण 9 नवंबर 2000 को कई वर्षों के आंदोलन के पश्चात भारत गणराज्य के राज्यों के रूप में किया गया था। यह एक उत्तर भारत में स्थित बहुत ही खूबसूरत और शांत पर्यटन केंद्र है। दून वैली पर बसा देहरादून इसकी राजधानी है, जो चारों ओर से प्राकृतिक दृश्यों से घिरा हुआ है। उत्तराखंड को ईश्वर की धरती या देवभूमि के नाम से जाना जाता है। हिंदुओं की आस्था के प्रतीक चारधाम बद्रीनाथ, केदारनाथ, गंगोत्री और यमुनोत्री यहीं स्थित हैं। उत्तराखंड अपने शांत वातावरण, मनमोहक दृश्यों और खूबसूरती के कारण पृथ्वी का स्वर्ग माना जाता है।

इस खूबसूरत राज्य के उत्तर में जहाँ तिब्बत है वहीँ इसके पूरब में नेपाल देश है। जबकि इसके दक्षिण में उत्तर प्रदेश और उत्तर पश्चिम में हिमाचल प्रदेश है। इस राज्य का मूल नाम उत्तरांचल था जिसे बदलकर जनवरी 2007 में  उत्तराखंड कर दिया गया था। राज्य में कुल 13 जिलें हैं जिन्हें प्रमुख  डिवीजनों, कुमाऊं और गढ़वाल के आधार पर बांटा गया है।

उत्तराखंड उन चुनिन्दा जगहों में है जो अपनी सुन्दरता के चलते दुनिया भर के पर्यटकों को अपनी ओर आकर्षित करती है। उत्तर का यह राज्य गंगा और यमुना समेत देश की प्रमुख नदियों का उद्गम स्थल भी है। उत्तराखंड, वैली ऑफ फ्लॉवर (फूलों की घाटी) का भी घर है, जिसे यूनेस्को ने विश्व विरासत की सूची में शामिल किया है।

नैनीताल, उत्तर-काशी, मसूरी और चमौली जैसे उत्तर भारत के लगभग सभी प्रमुख हिल स्टेशन उत्तराखंड में ही हैं। हरे-भरे और घने जंगल इसे 12 नेशनल पार्क और वाइल्डलाइफ अभ्यारण्यों के लिए आदर्श स्थान बनाते हैं। हिल स्टेशनों की सुरम्यता के साथ-साथ धार्मिक महत्व के स्थान होने के कारण देश और दुनियाभर के लोग यहां आते हैं। उत्तराखंड ट्रैकिंग, क्लाइंबिंग और वाटर राफ्टिंग जैसे एडवेंचर स्पोर्ट्स का केंद्र भी है और इस कारण युवाओं की पहली पसंद है।

उत्तराखंड के झीलों के जिले  के रूप में जाना जानेवाला, नैनीताल एक लोकप्रिय पर्यटन स्थल है जो की समुद्र तल से 1938 मीटर की ऊंचाई पर बसा है। स्वर्ग का यह टुकड़ा अंग्रेजों द्वारा वर्ष 1841 में खोजा गया था और एक हॉलिडे रिसोर्ट में बदल दिया गया। शब्द ‘नैनी’ हिंदू देवी नैनी के नाम से पड़ा, जिनका मंदिर झील के किनारे स्थित है।

नैनीताल आगंतुकों को नौका विहार, नौकायन और मछली पकड़ने के अवसर प्रदान करता है। नैनीताल के विभिन्न खूबसूरत पर्यटक स्थल दुनिया भर से पर्यटकों की एक बड़ी संख्या कोअपनी ओर आकर्षित करते हैं। इन स्थानों में हनुमानगढ़ी, खुरपाताल, किलबरी, लारिअकंता, और लैंसडाउन शामिल हैं।

इस राज्य में विभिन्न वाइल्डलाइफ अभ्यारण्य और पार्क पाए जाते हैं। देहरादून जिले में मशहूर आसन बैराज भी है, जहां यमुना और आसन का संगम है। कस्तूरी मृग के संरक्षण के लिए स्थापित एस्काट कस्तूरी मृग अभयारण्य भी यहीं है। तेंदुआ, हिरण, भालू, जंगली बिल्ली, उदबिलाव जैसे कई जंगली जानवर यहां बहुलता से पाए जाते हैं। नैनीताल जिले में सबसे बड़ा और पुराना नेशनल पार्क ‘जिम कार्बेट नेशनल पार्क’ स्थित है। यह पार्क विभिन्न जंगली जानवरों के अलावा बाघों के लिए जाना जाता है। भारत सरकार यहां प्रोजेक्ट टाइगर अभियान चला रही है। उत्तरकाशी जिले में गोविंद वाइल्डलाइफ अभ्यारण्य लुप्तप्राय: जानवरों के लिए महत्वपूर्ण स्थान और शरणस्थली है। यहां आयुर्वेदिक से लेकर एलोपैथिक दवाओं से जुड़े पौधे और वनस्पतियां मिलती हैं। बर्फीला तेंदुआ भी यहां देखा जा सकता है।

भगवान शिव के और अनेक पवित्र मंदिरों के कारण उत्तराखंड हिंदुओं के सबसे महत्वपूर्ण धार्मिक स्थानों में गिना जाता है। बद्रीनाथ और केदारनाथ, दो ऐसे तीर्थस्थल हैं, जो यहां सदियों पहले से हैं। बद्रीनाथ चार धामों में से एक है और सबसे पवित्र स्थलों में से है। केदारनाथ भी बद्रीनाथ जितना ही पवित्र और दर्शनीय स्थल है। यहां प्राचीन शिव मंदिर है, जहां 12 ज्योर्तिलिंग में से एक शिवलिंग विराजमान हैं। गंगोत्री धरती का वह स्थान है, जिसे माना जाता है कि गंगा ने सबसे पहले छुआ। देवी गंगा यहां एक नदी के रूप में आई थीं। यमुनोत्री यमुना नदी का स्रोत है और इसके पश्चिम में पवित्र मंदिर है। हरिद्वार गंगा नदी के तट पर स्थित है। यह हिंदुओं का प्राचीन तीर्थस्थल है। ऋषिकेश सभी पवित्र स्थानों के लिए प्रवेश द्वार है।

यमुना ब्रिज, नाग टिब्बा, धनौल्टी, और सुरखंडा देवी मसूरीके आस पास के पर्यटक स्थल हैं। कौसानी कत्युरी घाटी , गोमती नदी और पंचचुली की बर्फीली चोटियों, नंदा कोट, नंदा देवी, त्रिशूल, नंदा घुंटी, चौखम्बा और केदारनाथ के लुभावने दृश्य प्रदान करता है। अनासक्ति आश्रम, पंत संग्रहालय, और लक्ष्मी आश्रम भी पर्यटकों में लोकप्रिय हैं।

कई तीर्थयात्री आदि कैलाश, अल्मोड़ा, अगस्त्य मुनि, बद्रीनाथ, देवप्रयाग, द्वारहाट, गंगनानी, गंगोलीहाट, गंगोत्री और गौरीकुंड जैसे स्थानों पर देवताओं के दर्शन हेतु उत्तराखंड आते हैं। अन्य प्रसिद्ध स्थलों हरिद्वार, केदारनाथ, रुद्रनाथ, कल्पेश्वर, और जागेश्वर शामिल हैं।

कैसे पहुंचे और कहा ठहरे –

उत्तराखंड में बड़ी संख्या में होटल, गेस्ट हाउस और रिसोर्ट हैं। यहां हर स्तर के व्यक्ति के लिए रहने-खाने की सुविधा उपलब्ध है। राज्य की पहचान पर्यटन के लिए है और यहां हर बजट के होटल उपलब्ध हैं। राज्य का सबसे महत्वपूर्ण हवाई अड्‌डा देहरादून में जॉली ग्रांट एयरपोर्ट है। यहां से दिल्ली के लिए नियमित उड़ानें हैं। राज्य में सिर्फ 345 किमी. रेलवे ट्रैक है। नैनीताल से 35 किमी. दूर काठगोदाम रेलवे स्टेशन है, जो उत्तर-पूर्वी रेलवे का करीब-करीब अंतिम स्टेशन है। यह नैनीताल को देहरादून, दिल्ली और हावड़ा से जोड़ता है। राज्य के पंतनगर, लालकुआं और हलद्वानी में भी रेल सुविधा उपलब्ध है। देहरादून और हरिद्वार राज्य के दो प्रमुख स्टेशन हैं, जो देश के अधिकतर शहरों और हिस्से से जुड़े हुए हैं। ऋषिकेश, रामनगर और कोटद्वार में भी रेल सुविधा उपलब्ध है। राज्य में सड़कों का जाल अच्छी तरह फैला हुआ है। यहां 28,508 किमी. सड़कों का जाल है। इसमें से 1,328 किमी. सड़क नेशनल हाइवे और 1,543 किमी. स्टेट हाइवे के अंतर्गत आता है। सड़क मार्ग के लिए उत्तराखंड ट्रांसपोर्ट कॉरपोरेशन बसें चलाता है। निजी ऑपरेटर भी बस, टैक्सी जैसी सुविधाएं देते हैं। राज्य के हर प्रमुख स्थान तक सड़क मार्ग से पहुंचा जा सकता है।

गर्मियों के दिनों में राज्य में तापमान 40 डिग्री सेल्सियस पहुंच जाता है। लेकिन सर्दियों में यह बेहद ठंडा होता है। इस पहाड़ी राज्य में, देश के मुकाबले सामान्य या इससे अधिक बारिश होती है। उत्तराखंड में घूमने का सर्वश्रेष्ठ समय मार्च से जून के बीच और सितंबर-अक्टूबर का महीना होता है।

केदारनाथ उत्तराखंड के टॉप टूरिस्ट प्लेस है। हिमालय की घाटियों में केदारनाथ स्थित केदारेश्वर ज्योतिर्लिंग भगवान शिव के 12 प्रमुख ज्योतिर्लिंगों में एक और चार धामों में से एक और पंच केदार में से एक है। यहाँ बहुत ज्यादा ठण्ड और बर्फबारी के कारण यह मंदिर साल में केवल 6 महीने अप्रैल से नवंबर माह तक ही खुलता है। भगवान शिव जी ने केदार क्षेत्र को कैलाश जितना महत्त्व दिया है। मन्दिर के गर्भ गृह में भगवान केदारनाथ का स्वयंमभू ज्योतिर्लिंग है और बाहर नंदी भगवान विराजमान है। केदारनाथ मंदिर न सिर्फ तीन पहाड़ बल्कि पांच नदियों मं‍दाकिनी, मधुगंगा, क्षीरगंगा, सरस्वती और स्वर्णगौरी का संगम भी है। यहां अलकनंदा की सहायक मंदाकिनी आज भी मौजूद है। लेकिन इन नदियों में से कुछ का अब अस्तित्व नहीं रहा। इस स्थान को हिंदुओं के सबसे पवित्र तीर्थ स्थलों में से एक माना जाता है।

River Rafting Adventure in Uttarakhand

When it comes to river rafting, Rishikesh is the most popular destination in Uttarakhand. It is a famous river rafting destination in Uttarakhand since it offers various stretches and grades on the River Ganga. Both amateur and advanced rafting enthusiasts can enjoy river rafting in Rishikesh. There are four river rafting grades in Rishikesh: Grade I, Grade II, Grade III and Grade IV.

The main stretch of white water rafting starts from Kaudilaya and ends at Laxman Jhula, consisting of 13 major rapids and taking 8-9 hours. The course is dotted with several whirlpools and crosses sandy beaches like Byasi, Marine Drive, Shivpuri, and Brahmpuri. The course consists of 13 major and challenging rapids that ranges from grade II and III to IV+, with the most famous ones being Denial Dip, The Wall, Black Money, Cross Fire, Three Blind Mice, Return to Sender, Roller Coaster, Golf Course, Club House, Double Trouble, Hilton and Terminator.

The first stretch from Marine Drive to Kaudilaya is about 9-10 kilometers, with rapids ranging from grade III to IV+. The second stretch of 11 kilometers takes approximately 2-3 hours and is from Marine Drive to Shivpuri. Some of the popular rapids that you will be tackling in this stretch include Black Money, Cross Fire and Three Blind Mice that ranges from grade II to III+. The third stretch from Shivpuri to Brahmpuri that covers a distance of another 10-11 kilometers and takes approximately 2-3 hours combats rapids similar to rapids of the Marine Drive to Shivpuri stretch. The major rapids on this stretch are Return to Sender, Roller Coaster, Golf Course and Club House.

The final stretch from Brahmpuri to Rishikesh, which is also the easiest, throws rapids like Double Trouble, Hilton and Terminator, which ranges from grade I to II+, at you.

The peak season for river rafting in Rishikesh is March, but it can also be enjoyed from mid September to early December, as after that the water starts turning extremely cold.

Battling the rapids with white water rafting in Uttarakhand can also be enjoyed in River Tons (Grade I to IV), Alaknanda and Bhagirathi (Grade IV to V rapids) and Damta to Yamuna Bridge.

Rightly called Devbhoomi, meaning, the land of the gods, Uttarakhand is where the spiritual aura is prominent. Panch Badri is a total of 5 holy places where Lord Badri, a form of Lord Vishnu is worshipped under 5 different names, which are: Vishal Badri (Badrinath), Yogdhan Badri, Bhavishya Badri, Vridha Badri and Adi Badri. All of these religious destinations are visited by a large number of devotees of Lord Vishnu from all across the country. Badrinath Temple is the main temple of Lord Vishnu, and is one of the four Chota Char Dham pilgrimage sites in Uttarakhand. It is situated at an elevation of almost 10,279 feet. The presiding deity is Lord Vishnu, who has a black granite statue in the temple. The deity is believed by Hindus to be one of the eight self manifested deities of Lord Vishnu.

Panch Kedar, which comprises five temples, are located in the Garhwal Himalayas in Uttarakhand, and all of them are major pilgrimage destinations. The five temples are Kedarnath, Tungnath, Rudranath, Madhyamaheshwar and Kalpeshwar. The Kedarnath Temple is also a Jyotirlingas and is the highest among the 12 Jyotirlingas in India. All of the religious places in Panch Kedar are dedicated to Lord Shiva, and attract devotees of Lord Shiva as well as other tourists from all over the country. There are also mentioned in several mythologies in Hinduism, one of which links their origins to the Pandavas, the heroes of the Indian epic, Mahabharata.

Uttarakhand is also the holy land of Panch Prayag, which refers to the Five Confluences which occur at Vishnu Prayag, Nanda Prayag, Karn Prayag, Devprayag and Rudraprayag, to form the River Ganga. The Panch Prayag is respected by millions of Hindus because it is one of the holiest confluences in India, after Allahabad. It is believed that taking a dip in the confluences cleanses the body, mind and spirit, and takes an individual closer to mukti or liberation.

The famous Char Dham Yatra is a major pilgrimage for Hindus in Uttarakhand. The Char Dham refers to the four pilgrimage destinations, which are Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath and Badrinath. It starts from Yamunotri, then proceeds to Gangotri and Kedarnath and finally ends at Badrinath. The state is also home to Sikh pilgrimage destinations like Hemkund Sahib, located in the Chamoli district of Uttarakhand and is the highest gurudwara in India.

Rajaji National Park is both a national park as well as a tiger reserve which ranks high amongst the Places to see in Haridwar. The park was created by the amalgamation of 3 sanctuaries- Rajaji, Motichur and Chilla. The park is located in the Shivalik range of Himalayas and spreads over 820kms.

Being a source of the Bhagirathi River, the River Gaumukh is considered as the true source of the River Ganga. A trek of 18 kms from Gangotri takes you to Gaumukh, the surreal and peaceful area that provides the panoramic views of Bhagirathi peaks.

Tapovan 4300 meters is situated beyond Gaumukh and consists of the magnificent meadows situated at the foot of mount Shivling. The trekking trail is usually gentle, but gets perilously steep at places. The trek is a combined experience of trekking, bouldering, rock climbing and glacier traversing.

Experience India's First Astro Tourism Campaign In Uttarakhand's Jageshwar and Benital

The Uttarakhand Tourism Development Board, in collaboration with Starscapes, is bringing an exciting new experience called Nakshatra Sabha , India's first-ever astro tourism campaign. This initiative blends stargazing with cultural heritage, offering a deep dive into the wonders of the cosmos in some of Uttarakhand's most scenic locations .

The next Nakshatra Sabha events will occur in Jageshwar from October 4 to October 6, 2024, followed by another in Benital from November 8 November to 10, 2024.

Jageshwar is a historic temple town in Uttarakhand's hills, known for its spiritual atmosphere and rich heritage. Home to over 100 ancient temples dedicated to Lord Shiva , these structures showcase beautiful Nagara-style architecture and are surrounded by dense deodar forests and the serene Jataganga River. This peaceful and mystical setting makes Jageshwar the perfect spot to blend stargazing with history and spirituality.

Benital, on the other hand, is located in Chamoli district and sits 2,500 meters above sea level. Known for its untouched beauty and low light pollution, Benital offers crystal-clear skies, making it a dream destination for stargazers.

The founder of Starscapes, Ramashish Ray, expressed excitement about the campaign's success and the upcoming events. He emphasised that Nakshatra Sabha aims to make Astro tourism accessible to everyone, turning Jageshwar into a stargazing hub and highlighting Benital's awe-inspiring celestial views.

What's In Store?

Events at Jageshwar will feature astrophotography sessions with the ancient temples, explorations into how temple architecture aligns with astronomy, and guided eco-astronomy trails that merge Uttarakhand's natural beauty with celestial observations.

At Benital, participants will enjoy celestial observations through advanced telescopes, astronomy workshops, night-sky navigation, and adventurous hikes through Uttarakhand's scenic landscapes. Cultural experiences like live music and storytelling will add to the magic of the night.

This astro tourism campaign will continue through mid-2025, covering other beautiful dark sky locations in Uttarakhand, such as Uttarkashi, Pithoragarh, Nainital, and Chamoli. Along with the events, there will be seminars and webinars with experts, offering an unforgettable experience where nature, culture, and the cosmos come together.
