Here's everything you need to know about Sphere Las Vegas: Tickets, seats, and shows

Lesley Balla

February 7, 2024 // By Lesley Balla

Sphere Las Vegas looks out over Sin City

For a city that’s constantly reinventing itself, Las Vegas is never without a new attraction. From the Bellagio dancing fountains to a replica of the Eiffel Tower and incredible live shows and performances up and down the Strip, the place has a lock on entertainment. Sphere Las Vegas , one of the newest must-see sights and concert venues, encapsulates all that in one giant orb.

Attached to The Venetian Resort Las Vegas , everything about Sphere Las Vegas is mind-blowing. Touted as the world’s largest spherical structure, the electrified ball measures 516 feet wide and 366 feet tall. Covered in a wraparound, high-resolution screen, the exterior transforms into everything from a massive yellow emoji to a giant jack-o’-lantern, basketball, or blinking eyeball, thanks to 1.2 million LEDs.

It’s incredible to see from various points around the Strip (though not really from the Strip; more on that later) or when you fly into Harry Reid International Airport. Inside Sphere Las Vegas is just as astonishing. It's like a Disneyland ride meets the greatest show on Earth — a spectacle for concerts like U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere or high-def films like "Postcard From Earth."

Advertisement Advertisement

If you’re considering a visit — and you should — here’s everything you need to know about the attraction, from getting Sphere Las Vegas tickets to where to sit for shows. It's definitely one of the trippiest Las Vegas experiences ever.

Where is Sphere located?

It's fun to see what Sphere Las Vegas turns into next from many vantage points

Sphere Las Vegas is located behind The Venetian Resort, one long block off the Strip. You can get to Sphere via a pedestrian bridge from The Venetian or access it via Sands Avenue or Westchester Drive or from the Plaza Entry on the east side of the building.

There is a parking lot, but you’ll have to buy parking with your tickets via Ticketmaster. The lot also has designated ride-share areas.

No matter how you get to it, plan on doing a lot of walking. Like everything in Las Vegas, it might look close on a map or even out your window. But once you start walking, it’s exponentially farther than you thought. If you’re staying at one of the resorts, ask hotel staff for the best way to get there.

Where can you find the best views of Sphere Las Vegas?

Someone's always watching Sphere Las Vegas

Because Sphere is east of the Strip, it’s become almost a sport to find the best and most unique views of the orb. You get great views when you land at the airport. If you’re driving in, you can see it from 1-215. You’ll also get a good view of Sphere Las Vegas from the Las Vegas Monorail and the High Roller Observation Wheel at The LINQ.

Anyone playing through at the Wynn Golf Club has prime spotting. The upper level at the Wynn's parking structure is said to be one of the best places to see it, too. You can even see it from the McDonald’s drive-thru on Paradise Road.

If you’re walking on the Strip, the towering resort buildings obstruct your view. However, if you’re staying at The Venetian or The Palazzo , you can book rooms that have stunning views of Sphere. Just remember: Like Vegas itself, Sphere never turns off. Make sure to bring those sleep eye masks!

What’s it like inside Sphere Las Vegas?

These robots hold conversations with guests in Sphere's atrium

Watching the screen morph and change outside Sphere is one thing; seeing a show inside is another.

There are nine levels to Sphere, including a basement with a VIP lounge. In addition to the venue bowl, there’s a very cool atrium with holographic art installations, interactive robots to chat with, and a 360-degree avatar capture for the ultimate Las Vegas keepsake.

The main venue has four levels of seats, a general admission floor for concerts, plus high-dollar suites for groups. It seats 17,500 people and holds even more with standing room on the floor. What makes this a concert or movie venue like no other: Sphere's fully immersive environment and the 16K resolution LED screen — supposedly the largest in the world — that wraps up and around the audience. That equates to incredible backdrops and visuals to anything you see there.

The sound is impeccable from every seat — like wearing headphones without wearing headphones. For some events, seats have movement sensations to really “feel” the experience. You also may experience flashing lights, intense lighting, visual effects, and atmospheric simulations, like fog, scent, and wind. If any of that’s a problem, this might not be the experience for you.

How much does it cost to go to Sphere Las Vegas?

A view from "Postcards from Earth" inside Sphere Las Vegas

You need tickets to enter Sphere and prices vary. The Sphere Experience , which features 50 minutes of access to the atrium and the 60-minute immersive film, Darren Aronofsky’s “Postcard from Earth,” is the best way to see what it’s all about.

Tickets start at $69 per person and go up to $249 for the “Director’s Seats,” a package that includes the best seats in the house (section 306), expedited entry, a pre-show drink and snacks, and a T-shirt.

Concert tickets, like most these days, are set by the band and promoter — and they aren’t cheap. When U2 launched its U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere residency in September 2023, the cheapest tickets went for $140. Tickets for the final February and March 2024 shows started around $466, and those are for seats with an obstructed view. Resale tickets were in the thousands.

All Sphere tickets are available via Ticketmaster . You also can try resale sites like StubHub, VividSeats, and SeatGeek for the big concerts that sell out faster than you can say, “Achtung Baby.”

What are the best seats inside Sphere Las Vegas?

U2 playing inside Sphere Las Vegas is both intimate and larger than life

Almost every seat is amazing at Sphere Las Vegas. However, some have obstructed views of the screen, due to the overhang of upper levels.

If you want to get the full experience of the movie or band and the towering high-def screen, you'll want to avoid certain seats in very far right and far left sections at the 100 level. From rows 22 and higher, you'll see the stage and a large portion of the screen in front of you; the screen directly above will be obstructed. Rows 30 and higher are completely obstructed by the overhang; you'll see the stage and only a small sliver of the screen.

Seats in the 200, 300, and 400 levels are the best, and even better if you stick with sections that end in five, six, and seven. For instance, section 306, which Sphere touts as the best for “Postcards from Earth.”

Note: The seats are narrow and it gets pretty steep in the upper levels. If you’re prone to vertigo or uncomfortable walking along steep stairs, consider getting seats in the lower levels.

Can you eat and drink in Sphere Las Vegas?

Lots of food and drink options around the futuristic bars in Sphere

Like any other concert or sports venue, you can't bring in outside food or beverages to Sphere. Once inside, there are plenty of beverage options, including nonalcoholic drinks, beer, wine, and cocktails. Prices range from $7 for bottled water to $20 for wine and $30 for specialty cocktails.

If you’re on a budget, do a little pre-show gambling and get free drinks at The Venetian, a USA TODAY 10Best Readers' Choice Award winner for Best Las Vegas Casino . Not interested in buying water? Bring a clear, soft-plastic empty bottle with you and fill it up at the water fountains inside Sphere.

Food options at Sphere include typical concert fare, like chicken strips, burgers, pizza, and poke bowls. But this is Vegas — there are so many amazing restaurants to enjoy before or after the show.

Las Vegas teased its record-breaking MSG Sphere on July Fourth. Here's what to know about it.

Portrait of Anthony Robledo

Home to the tallest Ferris wheel in the US and the strongest light beam on earth, Las Vegas loves to break records. The MSG sphere is just the latest light pollution generating attraction for Sin City to flex.

Earth’s largest sphere besides the planet itself doesn’t officially debut for a few more months but residents and tourists got a sneak peek to the attraction on Tuesday. As part of a July Fourth special event, the giant ball displayed a multitude of displays including the American flag, an eyeball, a basketball and even Earth itself. The Jack-o-lantern image for Halloween and a snow globe for Christmas shows how much fun the LED orb will bring to the city.

Here’s what to know about the sphere before it becomes a city staple like Bellagio’s water fountains and Paris Paris’ half-scale replica of the Eiffel Tower.

What will the MSG Sphere be used for?

The eye-catching venue will host live music, film and sporting events including boxing and mixed martial arts.

Concert goers will be able to see their artists perform live alongside the appeal of being surrounded by a 16K LED screen displaying augmented animations and also serve as a 360 JumboTron showing close-ups of performers.

Rich Claffey, the Sphere operations officer, compared the experience to watching a movie on IMAX, according to CNN.

“The screen goes from ground to 250 feet high, all the way around,” Claffey said. “It keeps you fully immersed when you’re sitting in that bowl. I used to love IMAX in New York City, but this will blow that away.”

Aside from being a visual wonder, producers promise next-level audio for guests as the Sphere has over 160,000 speakers spread around the bowl. The venue will also offer 4-D experiences with seats that vibrate and wind machines.

When does the MSG Sphere open?

The MSG Sphere officially debuts to the public on Sept. 29 with a series of 25 concerts featuring U2. “U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at Sphere” will run through mid-December and celebrate the Irish band’s 1991 album “Achtung Baby".

“Most music venues are sports venues. They’re built for sports – they’re not built for music. They’re not built for art,” says U2’s Bono in the Apple Music interview . “This building was built for immersive experiences in cinema and performance.”

Bono at the Beacon: U2 singer's New York show will make you sing, laugh and cry

Tickets for the tour can be purchased here with starting prices at $140.

“There’s nothing like it. It’s light years ahead of everything that’s out there,” U2’s The Edge said in the video.

The Formula 1 Las Vegas Grand Prix’s street circuit will make its way through the property in November.

How big is the MSG Sphere?

One block east from the Vegas strip, the record-breaking Sphere sits at 366 feet tall and 516 feet wide. In addition to being the largest sphere, the bowl reportedly also has the largest LED lights with 1.2 million lights the size of hockey pucks.

The venue can seat nearly 18,000 people. A pedestrian walkway to the Venetian resort complex will connect the globe to the strip.

Who owns the MSG Sphere in Las Vegas?

The MSG Sphere is owned by Sphere Entertainment Co . Sphere Entertainment announced it would sell its majority interest in Tao Group Hospitality to Mohari Hospitality in April.

Architecture firm Populous , which has developed Super Bowl and World cup venues, designed the bowl. The Sphere reportedly cost $2.3 billion to build.

Correction: An earlier version of this story incorrectly stated who purchased the property in April .

Visiting the Las Vegas Sphere

One of Vegas’ newest attractions—and perhaps its most impressive—has been dazzling the skyline the last few weeks. Sphere is a groundbreaking entertainment venue built for Madison Square Garden Company (someone over there really likes shapes) designed to showcase what a venue that’s built for audio and visuals can really do. Originally lit up for the 4th of July, Sphere has been putting on displays consistently since its official opening on September 29th, 2023. More recently, the Sphere was featured as one of the main structures that the Las Vegas Grand Prix course carved around. (I have to assume that the best view of the Sphere to date is from the cockpit of an F1 car—but what do I know?)

The Sphere has been catching a lot of people’s eyes due to its unconventional architecture and creative use of its LED screens (at this point, who hasn’t seen the photos of the giant ball?), and it’s hard to miss when you actually get to the city. Still, it’s best to know what you’re getting yourself into if you want to see the thing up close, so I’ve compiled a bit of info about it here.

vegas sphere tours

The seating covers about two thirds of the arena, with suites spread out across floors three and five. Each seat has high speed internet access, and a bit more than half of them (10,000 total) are equipped with haptics for more immersive performances. (These ain’t your haptics you see in those 4D theaters at amusement parks—they’re the same idea, but meant to be way more immersive.)

Sphere’s interior is lined with a 16K wraparound LED screen, and at 160,000 sq. ft. it’s almost definitely bigger than the one you’ve got at home. (And if not, let me know where the Super Bowl party is.)

By the way, if you’re looking for some tips on travel around Las Vegas, we have a handy app that covers restaurants, shows, attractions, nightclubs and just about all of our other favorite spots to visit (and the spots we try to avoid). It’s a nifty little thing that will help point you in the right direction when you’re in Vegas.

vegas sphere tours

The Exterior

vegas sphere tours

If you’re heading into Vegas and your plane passes east of The Strip, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to see Sphere from the window. When it was being built, it looked like a giant black hole, but now that the LEDs are on, it’ll be whatever they decide to display on it. (They’ve had jack-o-lanterns, flowing particles and even giant pizzas for advertisements.) The exterior has 580,000 sq. ft. of display space for its LEDs, and they make good use of it, with designs changing often.

Sometimes the designs look entirely amorphous, full of floating particles that shift and flow around the sphere. Other times, they’ll load up images of giant smiley faces or other fun (usually spherical or circular) images, especially around the holidays. There’s no guarantee what you’ll see, but we’ve often found their art to be a delight.

Best Ways to See the Sphere

vegas sphere tours

If you want to see the Sphere but aren’t too keen on hitting a concert or taking the tour, you can head to a few vantage points that will give you a good view. The Linq’s High Roller Ferris Wheel will take you up high enough to see the Sphere in all its glory. The major downside is that you’ll only have a few minutes to view it. You could also try to get a room at one of the many hotels on the east side of the Strip. The higher your floor, the better chance you have of seeing it. The only catch is that you’ll need a room that actually faces the attraction, and that can be tough to secure. (An extra tip when talking to the front desk  might help your odds though.)

If you’re looking to see the Sphere for free, you’ll need to get creative. We had some luck by heading to the Wynn parking garage (3131 S. Las Vegas Blvd) and parking near the top. You can get some good views of the Sphere from this vantage point as you’re heading into the casino.

No matter how you decide to view it, Sphere is an impressive sight. If you’re looking for some of the coolest attractions Vegas has to offer, it doesn’t get much bigger or better than this.
