As millions are preparing for Hurricane Helene to make landfall and intensify, those at sea are already feeling the effects of the storm, as many did with Hurricane Debby in August, when cruise ship passengers suffered chaos . Now, a cruise ship has been kept from port as Hurricane Helene wreaks havoc in the Gulf of Mexico.

Guests on a seven-night cruise from Miami, Florida to The Bahamas were informed on Saturday that some of the ports that were on the itinerary were no longer going to be possible because of Hurricane Helene, as a Redditor and passenger on the cruise explained further.

Initially, guests on the MSC Seashore were supposed to visit Mexico, Grand Cayman, and Jamaica. However, deeming those areas unsafe, the MSC Seashore decided early on to avoid the ports and traded them out for ports in Nassau, Puerto Rico, and Grand Turk instead.

It was later confirmed that it would also be impossible for the ship to return on Thursday to Port Canaveral, Florida as a result of winds expected to be blowing at "50 miles per hour." Guests will instead have a bonus day at sea and will port when conditions are safe to do so.

Multiple Cruise Lines Have Been Affected By Hurricane Helene

Guests on the MSC Seashore are not the only ones affected by Hurricane Helene making its way to Florida. Much of the cruise industry is having to scramble to find new ports, delay cruises, or cancel them altogether.

Currently, there are over a dozen cruise ships from five different cruise lines that have had to alter their itineraries. As the exact trajectory of Hurricane Helene becomes clearer, it is anticipated that more vacations will have to be altered before too much longer.

When Hurricane Helene Is Expected To Make Landfall In The US

Hurricane Helene is currently a Category 1 hurricane, but with the intensity the storm has shown over the last several hours, it is possible that Hurricane Helene will be a Category 3 by the time it hits the US on Thursday.

The first area anticipated to be affected by Hurricane Helene is Big Bend, Florida on Thursday night. Winds are forecast to be 125 miles per hour. There is even the distinct possibility that Hurricane Helene will be a Category 4, causing massive destruction.

With the massive winds and storm surge expected from four to eight feet in Tampa to 10 to 15 feet in the Big Bend area, 64 of the 67 counties in Florida are under watches or warnings as of Wednesday. Even the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina are expected to receive "extreme flash flooding" as the storm moves through the area.
