Oceania Riviera Veranda Stateroom (and Concierge)

The Oceania Riviera Veranda Stateroom is oversized, artfully designed and has a spacious veranda. It's the perfect home away from home.

The Oceania Riviera Veranda Stateroom and the near identical Concierge Stateroom are both stylish and spacious. Indeed, they are the biggest in their class. What’s more, they also have a large and very private veranda.

The decor in the Riviera Veranda and Concierge Staterooms is smart and modern. There are subtle tones of blue, charcoal and grey, with gleaming chrome highlights and ebony accents. It’s luxurious, but also understated making it the perfect home away from home.

The living space is roomy and elegant, with some clever design features that are sure to appeal to luxury cruisers.

A Veranda Stateroom on Oceania's Riviera.

The Oceania Riviera Veranda and Concierge Staterooms have a combined sleeping and sitting area. The sitting area has a petit sofa and a good sized coffee table.

The writing desk in a Veranda Stateroom.

There is a marble-topped writing desk which is large enough for a laptop and accessories. It has USB-A and C fast-charging outlets ensure your devices never lose power. Also, there is a single European and two US power points. In addition, the writing desk has deep drawers which are handy for storing mobile devices as well as bulky clothing.

Storage under the writing desk.

There is a custom-designed Tranquility bed which can be configured as a queen or twin set up. It has a soft-medium feel. Attractive night stands sit on either side of the bed. These were handy for storing personal items like spectacles and reading material. Modern cruisers are sure to appreciate the bedside USB A + C bedside charging points, as well as the multidirectional reading lights.

Nightstands in the Veranda Stateroom.

The Oceania Riviera Veranda and Concierge Staterooms have a wall mounted interactive TV. It shows movies on-demand as well as your itinerary and shipboard account.

The living space also has a small bar area with refrigerator and reusable Vero water bottles.

The veranda could well be the best part of this Riviera stateroom. It’s a tranquil haven at sea, especially at sunset.

The balcony of a Veranda Stateroom on Oceania's Riviera.

There is room for two padded deck chairs and a cocktail table. I enjoyed relaxing on the veranda with a good book as the ocean drifted by.

The marble-clad bathroom in the Oceania Riviera Veranda Stateroom is luxurious. What’s more, clever design makes it feel even bigger than it really is.

The bathroom in an Oceania Riviera Veranda Stateroom.

The bathroom was entirely remodelled in 2022. It has a large walk-in shower as well as a stone vanity with a Hollywood style mirror. There is also a set of drawers and a storage cupboard, something rarely seen in a stateroom in this category.

The Veranda Stateroom bathroom vanity on Riviera.

The bathroom also comes stocked with quality Bulgari products. Your room attendant will replenish these as needed.

The Oceania Riviera Veranda Stateroom has just-enough storage.

The closet in the Riviera Veranda Stateroom.

There is a decent sized closet, as well as drawers and cupboards. Although some cruisers might find storage is limited. That said, the closet has enough space to take the contents of two large cases full of clothing.

Incidentally, it’s also worth noting that there is plenty of room underneath the bed to store empty luggage. Although large hardshell cases may need to be opened up in order to fit underneath.

Riviera Veranda and Concierge Staterooms all share the same internal space and layout. Only the size of the veranda and/or the stateroom positions vary; some are forward or aft, while others have favorable midship positions. Riviera’s staterooms span decks 7 to 12.

Veranda Stateroom categories include B1, B2, B3 and B4. It’s worth noting that B4 categories have larger verandas with forward and aft locations on deck 7.

Concierge Level Stateroom categories include A1, A2, A3 and A4. There are a handful of A1 category rooms scattered among the exclusive suites on decks 11 and 12.

Insider’s tip: If you are prone to seasickness we recommend a room with a midship location. On the other hand, if you prefer a big veranda then a B3 category room is best.

Hi, loved your review. Just a quick question. If we book a B3 on deck 7, is there any noice from the restaurant, kitchen, engines… in the cabin, as we are light sleepers?

oceania cruises bed size

Thanks for you question. In my experience you shouldn’t notice any noise from the Grand Dining Room. It’s also worth noting that the last sitting in the Grand Dining Room is 9:30pm and most people eat earlier than that.

Also, you shouldn’t notice any noise from the engines.

I hope this helps. Enjoy your Oceania cruise.

Regards Jason Kerr Managing editor

Are there only queen size beds in the staterooms?

Thank for your question. The bedding in Veranda Staterooms is typically a queen setup. However, you can request a twin setup. I recommend doing this in advance of your cruise by contacting Oceania Cruises directly or through your travel agent.

I hope this helps.

Jason Kerr Managing Editor

Any noise from the crew quarters below deck 7 forward?

Dear Graham

Thank you for your question. I don’t imagine you would get any noise. Certainly we have not had any reports of that. However, it is worth remembering that forward rooms will always get noise when the anchor is dropped.

Regards Jason Kerr Managing Editor

Hi, do you know if there are any hooks on the side wall near the door. I like to hang my bag and hat from the day there. Some have mentioned that walls are magnetic and to bring our own hooks. Thought?

Dear Caroline

Thank you for your question. Yes, there are hooks inside the stateroom door.

king beds on Oceania?

We've been very happy campers on Regent, but we may be running out of itineraries. I like the looks of some things on Oceania (though this would be for summer or fall of '11 and they're not out yet).

Big question: I know that O didn't formerly have king beds (as Regent does). Has that changed? Also: Are the bathrooms any bigger on the new ship(s)? (We would definitely not be getting most expensive category stateroom.)

Thanks for input.

Queen size beds on the older ships, and on the new Marina also.

Bathrooms are significantly larger on Marina than on the older ships.

I measured the bed last cruise as I was sure it was bigger than a queen. It was 66" wide, queen is 60.

I appreciate the responses.

About bed sizes: I've done a bunch of research and confirmed that queen U.S. is 60x80; queen E.U. 63x79.

King U.S. 76x80; king E.U. 71x79. It's curious that the O queen bed measures 66; I've not seen that measurement on any chart I've looked at. In any case, we sleep miserably with anything less than 71 wide. We don't need the full 76 of a U.S. king-- the Regent EU king width is fine and dandy. Alas, 66 I'm afraid would be too narrow. And that's a shame because I suspect that in every other sense we might really enjoy Oceania (even despite the less comfortable bathrooms).

Thanks again for your help.

I felt it looked larger than a queen, and know hubby and I have a rough time in a queen because we are used to a King. I happened to have a tape measure, so I did check it.

There is a size called Olympic Queen which measures 66", but since the bed is really 2 twins together, that would mean the twins must be 33", and I don't know if that exists.

Doesn't matter...it's too bad you can't try O!

Holiday Sharing

We are "king sized" and had no problem with the bed. I too felt it was bigger than a queen. The bedding is incredibly comfortable.

My husband and I just returned from 19 days on the Insignia. We have always slept on king sized beds. On the Insignia we had no problems. The bed was perfect as was the bedding. Hope that this helps.

LHT28

Must be a wind-up

I know size counts in many things but an extra 5 inches in bed width as a deal breaker:eek:

We sleep so well onboard in whatever size queen bed I do not really miss our King.

Having to sign/pay for drinks is a deal breaker for some:rolleyes:

susiesan

Never seen anyone not go with a cruise line because of the size of the bed. Thought I'd heard of all the reasons before.

The beds on Oceania are standard U.S. king sized. They will split into two twin sized extra long ( i.e. 80") beds if you so desire. A "T" bar is put in the middle to make it a king.

alas, I must have had a strange measuring tape...

how about a cabin with a sofa bed; you each have your own.

StanandJim

Nope.............. on the R ships, south of a Vista Suite, they are "narrow twins" that transform into a Queen sized bed.

Earl Rosebery

Nope..... They are wider than US Queen beds.... At least 6 in wider. In any case they were very comfortable for us and we are used to King.

Everyone take your tape measures.:D:D

They are wider than a standard 60" queen but not as large as a king

Where is MEOW when you need her:D:D:D:D

5,000+ Club

Everyone take your tape measures.:D:D   They are wider than a standard 60" queen but not as large as a king   Where is MEOW when you need her:D:D:D

Bingo! You are the correct one!:)

We measured (with tape) Oceania's standard balconied cabin bed, it was 66"(wide)x76"(long). We found it plenty enough, though the passage between the end of the bed and the wall was a bit narrow (acceptable).

We have been looking at beds for our home lately. Several furniture stores have told us that the majority of the people buy queen size (60"x80"), some people buy king size (76"80") or California king (72"x84"). Few people buy double size (54") and those who do usually use it for one person. The smallest available is twin size (38"x80"), with two of them side by side making a split king size. They hardly carry singles XL (30"x80") any more, with two of these side by side making a split queen size (now a rarity).

thank you Meow.

My tape measure and I have been vindicated!

(...amazing that people will disagree when they HAVEN'T measured!)

The 3 types of Oceania Cruises ships, explained

Gene Sloan

Among upscale cruise lines, Oceania Cruises has one of the simplest fleets.

All six of the ships that the Miami-based line currently operates fall into one of just two groups, known as "classes" in cruise industry lingo: the Oceania class and the Regatta class.

Each of these two groups is made up of ships that were constructed around the same time to the same basic design. If you know one member of the group, you know them all.

For more cruise guides, news and tips, sign up for TPG's cruise newsletter .

Oceania also has two more vessels on order that will make up a new, third class of ships at the line. But the first of these vessels, which together will be known as the Allura class, doesn't arrive until next spring.

An introduction to Oceania Cruises ships

Oceania Cruises is an upscale line — that is, it offers a higher level of service and aims for a higher-end customer than mass-market brands such as Norwegian Cruise Line , which is owned by the same parent company. Like all upscale lines, it operates smaller, less crowded (and pricier) vessels than you'll find at the more mass-market brands.

At 66,084 tons, Oceania's two biggest ships currently in operation, Marina and Riviera, are less than half the size of the biggest Norwegian vessels and just a third the size of the biggest ships operated by Royal Caribbean and MSC Cruises . They also hold far fewer passengers — just 1,250 apiece, assuming two people per cabin.

Unveiled about a decade ago, the two ships make up what is known as the Oceania class at Oceania, and — for a few months more, at least — they are the leading lights of the Oceania fleet.

The four other ships that Oceania currently has in operation (Nautica, Insignia, Regatta and Sirena) are significantly smaller and older than the Oceania-class ships, and they hold far fewer passengers. They make up what is known as the Regatta class at the line.

Related: The ultimate guide to picking a cruise line

The relatively small sizes of all six ships as compared to mass-market vessels — and resulting intimacy — is part of what you're paying for when you sail with Oceania. The ships may not have all the gee-whiz deck-top attractions of megaships such as Royal Caribbean 's Wonder of the Seas . But they offer serenity at sea in a relatively uncrowded setting, with a higher crew-to-passenger ratio than you'll find on mass-market vessels, more high-end restaurants and more elegant accommodations.

The smaller size of the ships also allows them to call at lesser-visited ports around the world that the big ships can't access — one of the big allures of sailing with a smaller-ship line such as Oceania.

Come May 2023, Oceania will be unveiling the first vessel in the new Allura class of ships mentioned above, which will be just a tiny bit bigger than the Oceania-class ships.

Allura class

Ships in class: Vista (coming in 2023); unnamed (coming in 2025).

Size: 67,000 tons.

oceania cruises bed size

The Allura-class ships aren't yet sailing, but when they do begin service, they will be the new stars of the Oceania fleet.

The first of the two ships, to be called Vista, is due to arrive in May 2023. It promises an elegance and refinement unlike anything that has been seen before at the line.

At 67,000 tons, the vessel will be a tad bigger than Oceania's last two ships, Marina and Riviera. But it'll carry fewer passengers (1,200 versus 1,250). That means its "space ratio" of space per passenger will be higher.

Related: The most exciting new ships of 2023

The space ratio of a ship is considered a measure of how upscale it is, with higher space ratios typically corresponding to more luxurious vessels.

As for decor and amenities, Oceania has promised an "evolution" of the intimate, residential-style interior venues for which its ships are known. Vista will retain such Oceania signatures as a Grand Staircase at its center and a Grand Lounge that serves as a central meeting point, as well as a martini bar, Aquamar Spa and a Horizons observation lounge.

The top deck of the ship will revolve around a tranquil pool area, and — as is the case with all Oceania ships — the ship's interior will have a full-blown casino with an accompanying bar.

Vista also will feature a larger variety of cabin sizes than earlier Oceania vessels, ranging from standard balcony cabins measuring 291 square feet (the largest standard balcony cabins in the industry, according to the line) to an array of suites that measure up to 2,400 square feet.

Among new cabin categories will be Oceania's first solo cabins — six in all. They'll measure a spacious 270 square feet and have their own balconies, something that is relatively rare for solo cabins on ocean ships.

In fact, every cabin on Vista will be a balcony cabin — a first for the line. Every cabin will have either a full balcony or a more limited French balcony. The ship will have no windowless "inside" cabins or balconyless "ocean-view" cabins.

The solo cabins, notably, also will be concierge-level cabins, which means they will come with access to a private, keycard-accessed concierge lounge and complimentary use of the ship's Spa Terrace.

Related: Get extra perks with the Oceania Club loyalty program

In another upgrade as compared to Oceania's other ships, Vista will boast 12 different culinary options for passengers — four of which will be new concepts for the brand.

The newcomers include Ember, serving "inventive American" cuisine, and wellness-focused Aquamar Kitchen (think smoothies, organic "power bowls" and yellowfin tacos with white cabbage slaw). Also new will be the Culinary Center Dining Room, an ocean-view space offering food-and-wine pairing experiences that will tie to the ship's cooking classroom. A new Bakery at Barista outlet will serve fresh-baked pastries.

Signature Oceania eateries making a return include the Polo Grill steakhouse, Italian-serving Toscana and upscale Asian venue Red Ginger.

A second, as-yet-unnamed Allure-class vessel is due to debut in 2025.

Oceania class

Ships in class: Riviera (2012); Marina (2011).

Size: 66,084 tons.

oceania cruises bed size

The two Oceania-class ships are the current belles of the ball in the Oceania fleet (at least until the arrival of the Allura-class ships). They are newer and bigger than the four other Oceania vessels currently sailing, with bigger and more elegant cabins, and a wider array of high-end eateries.

You'll find the Oceania-class ships feel more spacious than the line's four other vessels, and they have an overall elegance that takes them to a higher level. That said, they also carry a lot more passengers than Oceania's other ships — 1,250 as compared to 684.

If you're the sort of person that prefers traveling in smaller groups, the line's smaller Regatta-class vessels might be a better fit.

Overall, the Oceania-class vessels have a residential feel, which is something they share with all Oceania ships. You can sit back with a book in a wing-back leather chair in the English-style libraries on the ships, or sip a martini while listening to a piano player in their elegant Horizons observation lounges. The main pool areas on the vessels are classy and relaxing, with teak decking and rows of plush chaise lounge chairs facing sparkling pools.

Related: The 5 best destinations you can visit on an Oceania ship

Each of the vessels has four superb specialty restaurants that are in keeping with Oceania's foodie focus — none of which comes with an extra fee. They are the Polo Grill steakhouse, Italian Toscana, Asian-fusion Red Ginger and French Jacques (the latter the creation of famed chef Jacques Pépin, a culinary adviser to the line).

In addition, each ship has a main Grand Dining Room that also has a Jacques Pépin tie-in; he created the venue's signature dishes. The restaurants serve up Continental cuisine with menus changing daily.

Also for foodies, Riviera and Marina each have a high-end cooking classroom where passengers can learn how to make dishes themed around an ingredient or the regional cuisine of your cruise destination. It's a feature you won't find on the line's smaller ships.

oceania cruises bed size

Among other enrichment offerings (a big part of the Oceania formula) on the ships are art classes taught by an Artist in Residence in a dedicated space called the Artist's Loft. In addition, each of the ships has a theater where guest speakers lecture regularly, often on topics related to the destinations the ships visit. The theaters also are the setting for evening performances by an ever-changing array of guest entertainers such as pianists, classical string quartets and vocalists.

A swanky spa, outdoor running track, golf putting green, pickleball court and even croquet and bocce courts round out the activities available on board.

Cabins on the vessels also have a residential feel and are much more spacious than the cabins you'll find on the line's smaller ships. Standard balcony cabins, for instance, measure a generous 291 square feet, which the line boasts makes them some of the largest at sea.

Unlike the soon-to-debut Allura-class ships, these vessels also have ocean-view cabins, which measure 240 square feet, and windowless "inside" cabins, which measure 174 square feet. They typically are priced lower than balcony cabins and can be a good entry-level option for passengers looking to save.

Related: Why it pays to upgrade your cruise ship cabin

The ships also are loaded with bigger suites, some as big as 2,000 square feet, with elegant decor crafted by famed designer Dakota Jackson and furnishings from Ralph Lauren Home.

Regatta class

Ships in class: Nautica (2000), Sirena (1999), Regatta (1998), Insignia (1998).

Size: 30,277 tons.

oceania cruises bed size

The Regatta-class ships have long been at the core of the Oceania fleet, and they continue to be highly popular with Oceania fans. About half the size of the line's Oceania-class ships, the four vessels in the series offer a much more intimate atmosphere than the Oceania-class ships with fewer bars, restaurants and entertainment areas.

Like the Oceania-class ships, the Regatta-class vessels have a residential feel, with interiors that revolve around small central reception halls with grand staircases that lead to a single deck with bars, lounges, a casino and a main restaurant.

The main restaurant, the Grand Dining Room, is where passengers dine most nights. But each of the ships also has one of Oceania's signature Polo Grill steakhouses and a Toscana restaurant serving Italian cuisine — both located near the tops of the ships. That's just half the number of specialty restaurants that you'll find on the Oceania-class ships.

Each of the ships, at the top, also is home to a relaxing outdoor pool area, as well as an interior observation lounge called Horizons and a casual eatery called the Terrace Cafe. Each of the vessels also has a small spa with steam rooms, salon and fitness center, as well as a small library. Additional top-deck features include a small putting green area.

Related: 5 cruise ship suites that will blow your mind

Cabins on Regatta-class ships are notably smaller than those you'll find on the line's newer ships, with balcony cabins measuring just 216 square feet. Despite regular updates, they also can feel a bit dated as compared to newer Oceania ships.

All four of the Regatta-class vessels are now more than 20 years old, and they are showing their age in some areas.

That said, they remain wonderful vessels on many levels — one being that their small size allows them to access ports around the world that bigger ships can't visit. This allows them to sail more-interesting itineraries, in many cases, than you'll find on bigger ships.

Along those lines, Oceania often deploys the Regatta-class ships on its more far-flung, destination-rich itineraries, including some of the cruise industry's longest around-the-world cruises.

oceania cruises bed size

For the coming year, for instance, Insignia is scheduled to sail a 200-day world cruise out of San Francisco (starting on Jan. 15) that will bring stops on five continents including Antarctica.

In general, the Regatta-class ships appeal to cruisers who care more about the destinations they will be visiting than about having a lot of onboard options for dining, entertainment and activities.

Regatta-class trivia: The four Regatta-class ships and the four vessels in the fleet of rival line Azamara are sister vessels. They all once belonged to long-defunct Renaissance Cruises. You'll sometimes hear cruising aficionados refer to them by their Renaissance-related class name, the R class.

Bottom line

The Oceania Cruises fleet is relatively easy to understand. As of now, there are just two types of Oceania ships operating, a number that will grow to three in the coming year. All the ships have the same upscale, residential feel, with the main differences among the ships being their size and the number of eateries and bars you'll find on board, as well as the size of their cabins.

If a spacious cabin and more restaurant and bar choices are what matters to you most when cruising, the line's Oceania-class ships or soon-to-debut Allura-class ships are the most logical choice. If you prefer a smaller, more intimate environment with fewer people and don't mind giving up some amenities to have it, the Regatta-class vessels might be a better fit.

Cool Cruiser

I have searched the forum and found inconsistent information. Can someone please tell me if the beds are queen or king size in Riviera Veranda and Penthouse cabins? Thanks.

I dug out one of my catalogs (the 2023 Europe and North America was handy), and found the following under Stateroom Amenities (p. 87):

"King size bed (cannot be converted into twin beds) for Owner's, Vista, and Oceania Suites on board Marina, Riviera, & Vista and queen-size bed for all other suites and staterooms ...""

Close but no cigar. At least in the veranda cabins, the two singles are put together with a topper.” It results in a bed that is somewhere between a queen and a king (closer to a standard Queen found in the US).

DENIE

We had a concierge veranda on our June Riviera cruise.  Two beds pushed together with a topper that took the seam away.  It was at least a very solid queen.  We had no issues.

tropicalkerry2002

I actually measured the bed a few yrs ago. It was 66 inches. Standard Queen is 60, King is 72.

ORV

So apparently these require specially made sheets.

ToxM

Asked about the size of beds on Riv standard cabins (non suite) whilst on Sirena. The O future sales lady told me that all beds are kings (unless separated for singles).

Depends on where you live 😉

Our king is 80 in wide

while the O  beds are close  they are  a bit smaller

Then you have USA king beds  different again

Same here (Riviera A4 Veranda 12/21). We sleep on a king at home, so this was a bit smaller but not an issue on the cruise.

Mattress scales infographic of different mattress sizes.

So based on TropicalKerry2002's measurements, the beds are Olympic Queens.  ☺️

Pretty sure O has not changes bed sizes. Sadly, the fact that one cannot have 2 beds in a suite means we will never book a suite. We will happily settle for a verandah cabin

Are those the same sizes sold for home use as are on the ships?  For some reason, I thought on the ships, the beds might be slightly smaller.  (We never measured!)

Well I guess the ones onboard must be smaller  according  Marians measurements

I have not actually measured them  just thought they would be the same size they are selling online

I stayed in Carnival's cheapest, $90-a-day cabin on its new ship. It was ugly and windowless but shockingly spacious.

  • I booked the cheapest interior cabin for my four-night cruise on Carnival's new Carnival Firenze .
  • It was ugly, dated, and lacked decor, but shockingly spacious.
  • Interior staterooms in Carnival's newest ship start at $90 per person per day in 2024.

Insider Today

One of the best parts about cruising is feeling the open ocean's cool breeze rush around your skin.

So imagine how grumpy I was when I had to book a windowless interior cabin for my most recent sailing — on my first Carnival cruise , no less.

As a travel reporter, I go on several of these vacations at sea every year. I'm usually put up in balcony staterooms, the most popular cabin category .

Yes, I've been spoiled. And yes, that means I've always feared inside cabins.

oceania cruises bed size

Cruises can be overstimulating and overwhelming. Private balconies are the only place I've gotten peace, quiet, and fresh air on some ships.

So, unsurprisingly, I was dreading the interior cabin I had booked for my four-night Carnival Firenze cruise in mid-May.

No fresh air? No cool ocean breeze? The horror!

oceania cruises bed size

I expected a small, dark, moldy dungeon deprived of life, happiness, and light.

Turns out, I was being a bit too dramatic. Who would've guessed?

I'll admit was pleasantly surprised.

oceania cruises bed size

But before I get to the positives (spoiler alert: it's size), I have to address the negatives.

It might've been the ugliest cabin I've ever stayed in. And that's coming from someone who's sailed on a Margaritaville cruise .

To understand the stateroom, you must understand the ship's relatively short history.

oceania cruises bed size

Firenze joined Italy-based Costa Cruises' fleet in 2020. The company, owned by Carnival Corp , had planned to launch the ship in China but couldn't because of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Firenze's stint with Costa was then shortlived. In 2022, Carnival announced it would acquire Firenze and its sister ship, Venezia, to grow its US footprint amid "strong interest in people wanting to sail with us," a Carnival spokesperson told Business Insider.

The spokesperson said Firenze underwent a two-month refresh to 'install the Carnival Fun Italian Style Concept.'

oceania cruises bed size

That would explain the otherwise unnecessary photo of Florence, Italy behind my bed.

The print was both the only decor and the only reference to Italy in my dingy cabin. Unfortunately, it looked both tacky and misplaced.

It did, however, disguise the ominous "pull the cord for assistance" feature.

It's 2024. Why weren't there any bedside outlets?

oceania cruises bed size

The ship is less than four years old. The cabin looked quadruple its age, no thanks to the dated furniture that all came pushed against the wall.

The chaise's greyish pattern clashed with the yellow and red eyesore of a rug. And the small wood and faux-marble side table looked cheap and misplaced.

Gripes about aesthetics aside, everything in the joint living room and bedroom was perfectly functional.

oceania cruises bed size

On the bright side, the mattress was comfortable. And the large desk and closet could have provided enough storage for more than two travelers.

The room also had motion-sensing lights mounted by the floor, a necessary amenity for a space devoid of natural light.

Plus, the unappealing decor encouraged me to spend more time around the ship's common spaces.

But if you think the bedroom looks old, wait until you see the bathroom.

oceania cruises bed size

It was about as glamorous as a gas station restroom.

Most of my cruise cabin bathrooms have had modern, cool-toned decor, like the one pictured on the left. Carnival seems to have avoided the industry trend as much as possible.

The yellow and red tiles were giving vintage McDonald's.

oceania cruises bed size

Unbeknownst to me, the cruise line had put me in one of the ship's accessible, wheelchair-friendly accommodations. This meant the shower (as in, a curtain and a few drains on the floor) was one of the most spacious I've had at sea.

However, it only came with a two-in-one body wash and shampoo. Apparently, both Royal Caribbean and Carnival seem to have a BYOHC (bring your own hair conditioner) policy.

Some storage would've been nice, too.

oceania cruises bed size

An unnecessary number of stacked tissue boxes and toilet paper rolls occupied the only shelves in the bathroom.

There was no need for these excess paper products. My cabin attendant already cleaned and restocked my stateroom once a day, as is typical with Carnival.

I'm a girlie with an extensive skincare routine and a compulsive need to organize my products. With almost no storage in the bathroom, I needed these shelves.

With all these complaints, you may wonder why I said I was pleasantly surprised by my stateroom.

oceania cruises bed size

It's all because of one major feature: Its size. I never felt claustrophobic despite being stuck in a windowless 150-square-foot box.

The bathroom, one of the most spacious I've seen on a cruise ship, was so big that it could comfortably fit a family of four.

Back in the living room, I could've rolled out a yoga mat and worked out without moving anything around.

oceania cruises bed size

Heck, I could've comfortably starfished on the floor without hitting any furniture. I don't know if I can say the same for most of my previous cruise accommodations.

Would I have preferred a balcony or window? Yes.

oceania cruises bed size

Did it feel more like a hospital room than a floating hotel room? Yes.

However, for the spaciousness, the cost is hard to beat. As a solo traveler, I paid $735 for my cabin, including $64 in optional gratuities.

In 2024, the cheapest interior cabin for two guests on Carnival Firenze starts at about $360 per person, including taxes and fees, for the same four-night itinerary as the one I went on.

That's $90 a night for a cabin, food, onboard amenities, and stops at Catalina Island and Ensenada, Mexico.

oceania cruises bed size

Plus, it's much cheaper than the newest ships of other cruise lines (I'm looking at you, Royal Caribbean ).

So, if you are desperate for a dirty and cheap getaway, and Carnival Firenze has been catching your eye, don't be afraid of the interior cabin.

oceania cruises bed size

Yes, it isn't lovely. But at least it's completely functional and large.

If I — spoiled — can do it, so can you.
