The Barbasol Championship takes place this week from Keene Trace Golf Club in Kentucky. Here are who our experts like to contend this week.

Aside from the experts below, Golfbet Insider Rob Bolton breaks down the field at the Barbasol Championship in this week's edition of the Power Rankings .

2023 Barbasol Championship odds, picks: Proven model reveals projected leaderboard, surprising PGA golf predictions

The 2023 Barbasol Championship tees off Thursday, July 13, from Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky. Taylor Pendrith is the 18-1 favorite in the latest PGA Tour odds, followed by Vincent Norman (25-1), Lucas Glover (25-1) and Akshay Bhatia (28-1).

We simulated the 2023 Barbasol Championship 10,000 times, and there are some MAJOR surprises.  Join SportsLine here to see the model's shocking 2023 Barbasol Championship projected leaderboard .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up more than $10,000 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model predicted Jon Rahm would finish on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Sentry Tournament of Champions and The American Express. And at the 2023 Masters, the model was all over Rahm's second career major victory heading into the weekend. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the third round, but the model still projected him as the winner. It was the second straight Masters win for the model, which also nailed Scottie Scheffler winning in 2022.

In addition, the model included Nick Taylor in its best bets to win the 2023 RBC Canadian Open. That bet hit at +7000, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned nearly $1,900. McClure's best bets also included Jason Day (17-1) winning outright at the 2023 AT&T Byron Nelson and Rickie Fowler (14-1) finishing on top of the leaderboard at the 2023 Rocket Mortgage Classic.

This same model has also nailed a whopping nine majors entering the weekend! Anyone who has followed it has seen MASSIVE returns!

Kentucky is hosting this tournament for the fifth time, with this being its second year as a co-sanctioned event with the DP World Tour. Julien Guerrier is the top-ranked player from the DP World Tour in this week's field, joining Aaron Cockerill and Marcus Helligkilde. Meanwhile, recent PGA Tour winners Cameron Champ, Chad Ramey and Erik van Rooyen are also in the field. There are only six events remaining in the FedEx Cup regular season, so several golfers are hoping to secure playoff berths.

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2023 Barbasol Championship: Glover, one of the top favorites, stumbles and barely cracks the top 10 ! Another surprise: Troy Merritt, a 45-1 longshot, makes a strong run at the title. He's a target for anyone looking for a HUGE payday.

Also, the model is targeting THREE other golfers with odds of 30-1 or longer   who will make surprising runs!  Anyone who backs these golfers could hit it BIG. You ABSOLUTELY need to see who they are before locking in any 2023 Barbasol Championship picks!

So who wins the Barbasol Championship 2023, and which HUGE longshots make a serious run at the title? ...  Join SportsLine right now to see who you can bank on to win the 2023 Barbasol Championship, and see which longshots make a run at the title, all from the model that's nailed 9 majors, including this year's Masters !

2022 Barbasol Championship odds, field: Surprising PGA picks, predictions from model that's called 8 majors

Sportsline's proven model simulated the barbasol championship 2022 10,000 times and revealed its pga picks.

usatsi-16613561-jon-rahm-2021-northern-trust-r-4-4th-tee-1400.gif

The 2022 Barbasol Championship was always going to be played without its defending champion. Seamus Power, who won in a six-hole playoff last year, chose earlier this year to play in the Scottish Open on the same weekend. As it turned out, he ultimately chose to not play in that, either, and took a tie for 30th at last weekend's Irish Open on the European Tour.

That means any of the 2022 Barbasol Championship contenders could be the next to hoist the cup ahead of the the Open Championship. Chris Gotterup is the 20-1 co-favorite in the latest 2022 Barbasol Championship odds on Caesars Sportsbook, and is joined by Kevin Streelman (20-1). Others like Adam Svensson (22-1), Mark Hubbard (22-1) and John Huh (28-1) make up the next group at the front of the field. Before making any 2022 Barbasol Championship picks, be sure to  see the golf predictions and projected leaderboard from the proven computer model at SportsLine .

Our proprietary model, built by DFS pro Mike McClure, has been red-hot since the PGA Tour resumed in June of 2020. In fact, the model is up over $10,600 on its best bets since the restart, nailing tournament after tournament.

McClure's model included J.T. Poston in its best bets to win the 2022 John Deere Classic. That bet hit at +5500, and for the entire tournament, McClure's best bets returned almost $1,100. At the 2022 Masters, McClure's model was all over Scottie Scheffler's first career major championship victory heading into the weekend.

In addition, McClure's best bets included Collin Morikawa winning outright at the 2021 Open Championship, even though he was listed as a massive 40-1 long shot. The model was also all over Jon Rahm's (10-1) first career major championship victory at the 2021 U.S. Open. Rahm was two strokes off the lead heading into the weekend, but the model still projected him as the winner.

This same model has also nailed a whopping eight majors entering the weekend. Anyone who has followed it has seen massive returns.

Now that the Barbasol Championship 2022 field is locked, SportsLine simulated the tournament 10,000 times, and the results were surprising. Head to SportsLine now to see the projected leaderboard .

Top 2022 Barbasol Championship predictions

One major surprise the model is calling for at the 2022 Barbasol Championship: Streelman (20-1), a two-time PGA event winner and one of the Vegas co-favorites, stumbles and barely cracks the top five. Streelman won't enter Kentucky with the best of form recently as he has just one top-25 finish over his last eight events. He's missed half of the cuts over this stretch and has failed to shoot par or better in all four rounds of any of the eight tournaments.

Much of Streelman's struggles can be pointed to his iron play as he's struggled immensely with his long game. After ranking 33rd in strokes gained: approach-the-green last season, Streelman has dropped nearly 100 spots to 130th in the statistic this year. Even when he's getting on the green, he's struggling to convert as he ranks 133rd in strokes gained: putting. Considering the 76 bunkers that line Keene Trace Golf Club and the hilly greens that will challenge him, there are far better options than Streelman for your Barbasol Championship 2022 bets.

Another surprise: Hank Lebioda, a 35-1 long shot, makes a strong run at the title. Although Lebioda hasn't done much in other tournaments this season to turn heads, he should be in a much better scenario this weekend. Other more familiar names looking for a tune-up ahead of the Open Championship are playing in the Scottish Open, clearing a path for Lebioda at Keene Trace Country Club.

While Lebioda hasn't quite put it all together in events this year, he showed at the end of last season what he's capable of. In three tournaments between June 27 and July 11, he had a top-10 and two top-five finishes. In a field of lesser-known commodities, Lebioda offers tremendous value with his upside.

How to make 2022 Barbasol Championship picks

The model is also targeting three other golfers with odds of 35-1 or longer who will make a strong run at the title. Anyone who backs these long shots could hit it big. You can only see the model's 2022 Barbasol Championship picks here .

So who will win the Barbasol Championship 2022? And which long shots stun the golfing world? Check out the 2022 Barbasol Championship odds below and then visit SportsLine to see the projected 2022 Barbasol Championship leaderboard , all from the model that's nailed eight golf majors, including this year's Masters.

2023 Barbasol Championship betting odds and tips: Futures picks, who will win, first clicks

pga tour barbasol championship predictions

The 2023 Barbasol Championship will start Thursday, with the PGA Tour and DP World Tour co-sanctioned event at Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Ky. welcoming 156 world-class players to the latest event of 2023 on the PGA Tour schedule .

The Barbasol Championship is the PGA Tour's co-sanctioned event in Kentucky played opposite the Scottish Open, welcoming a mix of DP World Tour players into the fray this week.

Keene Trace is kind of long, but scoring isn't really an issue here for a longer player -- or, frankly, a shorter player.

Taylor Pendrith is betting favorite

The 2023 Barbasol Championship betting odds show the betting favorite this week is Taylor Pendrith, who comes into the week at +1800 betting odds. Lucas Glover is next best at 20-to-1.

Kevin Streelman is at 25-to-1 on a board pricing players largely based on the mix of their most recent play and prior experience.

Akshay Bhatia , Carl Yuan and Grayson Murray are on the board at 28-to-1.

2023 Barbasol Championship first looks

Glover is a great pick given his last few weeks and his affinity for weaker events in the midwest-South, but he may be running on fumes.

Andrew Novak has been flying under the radar this year, but he's missed just one cut in the last four months.

Russell Knox is working his way back into form after a pretty brutal run. He's working toward something, though this may be a better each-way bet.

pga tour barbasol championship predictions

With the world’s top golfers in England for the 2021 British Open , Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, Kentucky, hosts an alternate field for the Barbasol Championship . Below, we look at the 2021 Barbasol Championship odds  and make our PGA Tour picks and predictions to win.

Jim Herman is back to defend his 2019 Barbasol Championship victory after the 2020 tournament was canceled amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Running opposite the final major of 2021, there’s a rather weak field in attendance to challenge him.

As an alternate event, the winner won’t receive a guaranteed invitation to the 2022 Masters but will be granted a two-year PGA Tour exemption.

Odds provided by  BetMGM ; access  USA TODAY Sports’ betting odds  for a full list.  Lines last updated Monday at 1:56 p.m. ET.

Luke List (+2200)

List is coming off a T-4 finish at the John Deere Classic and just missed out on an invitation to the British Open. He was fifth in the field last week with 2.52 Strokes Gained: Tee-to-Green. The 36-year-old remains in search of his first career PGA Tour victory and has an excellent opportunity to obtain it against the weaker competition this week.

He has three total top-10 finishes through 18 events this year. His first two came against much stronger fields at the Farmers Insurance Open and Wells Fargo Championship. He’s making his Keene Trace Golf Club debut, but he’s in excellent form after just missing out on victory last week.

2021 Barbasol Championship picks – Contender

Wilco nienaber (+5000).

Nienaber, who’s 375th in the Golfweek/Sagarin world rankings, made his PGA Tour debut a little over a month ago at the Palmetto Championship at Congaree. He finished in a tie for 14th and then tied for 68th at the US Open before heading back to the European Tour for back-to-back missed cuts at the Irish and Scottish Opens.

The 21-year-old South African averaged 1.44 SG: Off-the-Tee per round at the Palmetto Championship to rank third in the field among those who made the cut. He can lean on his driver once again at the 7,328-yard Keene Trace Golf Club.

He won on his home Sunshine Tour in early May.

2021 Barbasol Championship picks – Long shot

Camilo villegas (+8000).

Villegas, 39, is one of the most accomplished golfers in this watered-down field with four PGA Tour victories, including the 2008 Tour Championship. He’s just 173rd in the Golfweek rankings, but he has had a bit of a resurgence over the last two years with a T-6 showing at the RSM Classic in the fall and a T-8 at The Honda Classic earlier this year.

He tied for 41st at the John Deere Classic but led the field with 2.66 SG: Tee-to-Green per round. His putter has been his weakness this season, but it should be less of a disadvantage at a venue where few in the field have much experience.

Seamus Power outlasts J.T. Poston in playoff to win Barbasol Championship

  • Associated Press

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- Seamus Power won the Barbasol Championship on Sunday for his first PGA Tour victory, beating J.T. Poston with a tap-in par on the sixth hole of a playoff.

Poston drove into the water that lines the right side of the par-4 18th at Keene Trace and made a bogey on the final extra hole. Power hit the fairway, played his second to 12 feet and two-putted for the victory.

"I was able to just kind of stay patient enough there and J.T. made just one mistake and I was able to take advantage," Power said. "Unbelievable day, career changing, life changing, all that kind of good stuff. It's not going to sink in for a while."

Because the tournament was played opposite the British Open, Power did not earn a spot in Masters. The 34-year-old Irishman did secure his PGA Tour card, wrapped up a spot in the playoffs and earned berths next year in the PGA Championship, The Players and the Tournament of Champions.

"I view myself as extremely lucky," Power said. "I'm 34 and I've yet to work a day in my life. So every time I get to play a tournament or play an extra year on tour, to me it's a massive bonus. I love playing golf, it's my favorite thing to do."

Power birdied the par-3 16th and the 18th in regulation for a 5-under 67, posting at 21-under 267 while Poston was squandering the lead behind him.

"I started out knowing I was going to need a low one," Power said. "To be honest, I didn't think 5 under would be low enough, but I was able to pick one up on the last, squeeze into a playoff and eventually kind of pulled through there."

Poston had a double bogey on the par-5 15th after driving an inch out of bounds to the left, and followed with a three-putt bogey on the par-3 16th. He parred the final two holes for 70.

"Standing on 15 tee, if I make birdie there, it's probably over, or at least that's kind of how I feel. Just bad swing," Poston said. "I just put an awful swing on it. I double-crossed it and it was out-of-bounds by half an inch or an inch or so."

On the first extra hole, Power holed an 18-foot birdie chip from the collar of the 18th green and Poston matched him with a 10-foot putt. They matched pars on the next four holes - on No. 18 again, then twice on the par-3 17th, and again on 18.

The 28-year-old Poston missed a chance for his second PGA Tour title. He won the 2019 Wyndham Championship in his home state of North Carolina.

"Definitely a big step in the right direction," Poston said. "I hadn't really played up to my standard, I would say. Saw a lot of good golf with the exception of maybe four holes. Definitely a lot of positives to take away."

Anirban Lahiri and Sam Ryder finished a stroke out of the playoff, each shooting 65.

James Hahn followed a career-best 60 with a 70 to tie for fifth at 19 under with Patrick Rodgers (67), Henrik Norlander (67), Ryan Armour (68), Mito Pereira (67) and Luke List (71). Hahn bogeyed the final two holes.

The Barbasol Championship Profile

These are very strange times in the world of golf: the PGA Tour and DP World Tour are this week hosting their first co-sanctioned events either side of the Atlantic, LIV Golf and the organisation’s lawyers are going to war with the same two circuits, and in the Barbasol Championship a golfer who doesn’t even have a Wikipedia page is leading the betting!

Yes, the unheralded Christopher Gotterup from Sweden and an Oklahoma State University star is among the favourite in all books and shortest price in many of them.

The reason for compilers’ faith in the youngster? Well, he finished tied seventh in the Puerto Rico Open in March (which, like this week, an opposite field event), turned pro last month, made the cut in the US Open, achieved the same feat in the Travelers Championship and then flew home on a wet sail to finish tied fourth in last week’s John Deere Classic.

There is, of course, another reason why he is favorite this week: the rest of the field is quite weak because the superstars of the sport are playing the Scottish Open ahead of next week’s British Open .

In fact, as ever, this week’s event is a golden opportunity for youngsters, but also journeymen.

The former will hope to kickstart their careers, the latter to revive them.

Course Report

Keene Trace Golf Club is an Arthur Hills design that plays to around 7,300 yards at a par of 72.

Former PGA Championship winner Jason Dufner said that it is a relatively straighforward track and the scores in the first three events held there have backed him up.

Last year’s winner Seamus Power said that he liked the bent grass greens and so, too, did the two men he succeeded.

The first winner, Troy Merritt in 2019, totalled 23-under for the week, second winner Jim Herman finished the event on 28-under and Power was 21-under.

This week offers players a big chance – especially those visiting DP World Tour performers who can gain a PGA Tour card with victory – but they will need to complete a big haul of birdies to gain that prize.

Kraft Work Can Be a Hit

Three years ago, when Kelly Kraft made his only previous start in this tournament, his third round proved how much he liked the test – and also how important birdies are.

He had started Saturday in a tie for third and just two shots back of the lead, he carded a course record 61, and yet he ended the day still second and one adrift of the leader.

He might have expected to gain a lot more ground with such a brilliant round!

You’re going to need to be aggressive on this course because you’ve got a lot of wedges and you’re coming into par 5s with irons,

he explained.

That’s kind of my game plan, to be aggressive.

He ended the week in second and he’s not contended again at this level – until last week, that is, when he carded a superb 63 in the second round of the John Deere Classic which vaulted him into the top 10.

Ultimately he slipped backwards to T24th but it was a third top 25 in six starts and he’s missed only one cut in that stretch.

He’s got a great chance this week to go one better than in 2019.

Take him each way in the outright at +5000 with Unibet , the industry best price and it pays out six places.

Cook Has the Recipe

Kraft is not the only player in this week’s field who has recorded a low round on the course.

Back in 2019 Austin Cook thrashed a third round 63 on his way to finishing fourth and he backed it up with another cut made (T47th) in last year’s renewal.

I feel at home here, he said of the course. The humidity, the heat, the bent grass greens. It’s a golf course very similar to my home course.

He’s also bounced right into form in the last month.

A second round 64 helped him to T13th at the Canadian Open.

Another fast Friday produced a 65 when T63rd at the Travelers Championship.

And he closed with a 66 last week for T16th at the John Deere Classic.

Take him to make the top 10 at +600 and to win at +5000 , both prices with the FanDuel Sportsbook.

Hubbard Can Beat Streelman

Let’s keep this week’s match bet simple.

Kevin Streelman is a veteran of the PGA Tour but in pairing him Mark Hubbard BetMGM might have made an error based on their activity this year.

In 2022, Hubbard leads Streelman 7-2 in the head-to-head count.

Now let’s take a look at their individual records for the calendar year.

Hubbard has a stroke average of 69.15 and an average finishing position of 39.6

Streelman averages 70.85 this year and his average finishing position is 64.3.

The difference in that scoring average equates to just short of seven strokes over four rounds.

The clincher is that Hubbard finished T20th the only time he played the course while Streelman is a debutant.

Take Hubbard over Streelman at -110 with BetMGM

Barbasol Championship picks: 3 best bets for PGA Tour golf this week

By cody williams | jul 6, 2022.

Barbasol Championship picks as we highlight the best bets for the opposite-field event on the PGA Tour this week as golf heads to Kentucky.

Most of the attention for golf fans will be on the Scottish Open this week but there is an opposite-field event happening stateside, Keene Trace Golf Club in Nicholasville, KY to be precise, with the Barbasol Championship adding another installment to its history. The event, which was won by Seamus Power last year, offers a number of players an opportunity to earn a solid payday and FedExCup points.

Obviously, there isn’t a ton of star power in the Barbasol Championship field with 17 of the Top 20 players in the world being in the United Kingdom already. With that said, that can offer the chance for bettors to take advantage of that and find some good value considering that the favorite, Christopher Gotterup, is at +2000 for the week.

So with that in mind, we’ve scoured the board and come with some Barbasol Championship picks and best bets for the week so you don’t ignore the opportunity to cash with the opposite-field event.

Barbasol Championship picks: 3 best bets for PGA Tour opposite-field event

Kelly Kraft to finish Top 20 (+200)

It’s been kind of quiet from a player who doesn’t garner much attention, but Kraft has been playing extremely well by his standards of late, reeling off a T13 at the RBC Canadian Open and then T24 at the John Deere Classic. He’s been extremely accurate with his driver, which should play well here, and finished T2 at the Barbasol in 2019. I love the number for a Top 20 for a player in good form with good history at Keene Trace.

Christopher Gotterup to finish Top 10 (+250)

As mentioned, Gotterup is the favorite this week, which speaks to how well the rookie has been playing. However, with this field and the odds for him to win, that offers great value for a Top 10 finish.

Gotterup has been striking the hell out of the ball, gaining 1.4 strokes per round from tee to green over his last 20 rounds. That’s what’s helped him go T43, T35 and T4 in the last three weeks. Based on recent form and upside, it’s hard to find anyone who presents the value that Gotterup does at the Barbasol, even making his first appearance at the event.

Josh Teater to finish Top 20 (+300)

We’re getting a bit risky with this one but I like the value on what could be an easily foreseeable result. Teater has been on the Korn Ferry Tour this year and, while he’s missed three of the last four cuts, the other three starts in his last six have been T27 or better with two of those being T11 or better. More importantly, Teater played this event in 2021 and 2019 and finished T15 and T6, respectively, in those showings. If he can do that again, it’ll easily cash a +300 ticket and that makes it well worth wagering on.

2024 PGA Championship predictions, odds: Five expert picks to win from Valhalla

Scottie Scheffler has the best odds to win the PGA Championship.

The Post’s Mark Cannizzaro makes his picks for the PGA Championship .

All odds courtesy of FanDuel .

Rory McIlroy (+750)

I wanted to pick a dark horse, stay away from chalk, but too many signs point to McIlroy ending his 10-year drought without a major — dating back to the 2014 PGA at Valhalla.

McIlroy is coming off his dominant win at Wells Fargo on Sunday and he thrives on courses on where he’s had past success.

It, too, is wet from rain already, which favors the long hitters like Rory.

Scottie Scheffler (+400)

More chalk. He’s too good to bet against.

World No. 1 enters the week having won four of his last five starts, including the Masters.

Brooks Koepka is tied for the fourth-best odds to win the PGA Championship.

Brooks Koepka (+1600)

Yes, even more chalk.

Big-game hunter is coming off a win in his last LIV Golf start, has already won the PGA three times and brawny Valhalla looks like a bomber’s paradise. All of these things fit Koepka .

Bryson DeChambeau (28/1)

Another big hitter I expect to play well this week — one of the best bomb-and-gouge guys out there.

Cameron Young (55/1)

His season has been somewhat quiet, but Young is a long hitter who has done well at the PGA Championship and is starved to win his first PGA Tour tournament.
