Classic Safaris

These are just some of our favourite classic safari routes, some combine bush adventures and beach relaxation whilst others take you deep in to the heart of the African wilderness – these trips are considered classic for a good reason, they give you the opportunity to experience the best of your chosen destinations.

1. Kenya - Great Migration Safari and Beach

  • Witness the Great Wildebeest Migration in the Masai Mara
  • Spot big cats such as lions, leopards and cheetahs
  • Experience vibrant Masai culture
  • Watch the humpback whale migration in the Indian Ocean
  • Relax on the beautiful beaches of the Kenyan coast

Best time to go: August - September (peak season for both migrations)

This is a fantastic opportunity to witness some of the largest mammal migrations on the planet.

Firstly, head to Kenya on safari to the Masai Mara during the height of the Great Migration - one of the greatest wildlife shows on earth and if this is high on your bucket list then you will need to book early as it is a very popular time of year in Kenya.

The river crossings are an emotional experience; as the suspense builds you can almost feel the trepidation until one wildebeest has the courage to make a dash for the other side. There’s no doubt that you will be filled with excitement, heartache, adrenaline and joy as you witness mass herds of wildebeest and zebra frantically plunging through crocodile-infested river waters, with the survivors still needing to outwit and outpace the large number of predators who lie in wait on the other side.

For more details, take a look at our complete guide to where, when and how to see the Wildebeest Migration.

Masai Mara Wildebeest Migration

With our selection of striking safari lodges, you'll be perfectly placed in the heart of the Masai Mara to witness one of the greatest spectacles of the natural world as well as being surrounded by some of the densest lion populations in the whole of East Africa.

After spending a few days in awe of the Great Wildebeest Migration its time to leave the majestic Masai Mara and fly south to the beautiful Kenyan coast for the next instalment of your migration adventure, this time to go in search of humpback whales as they travel north towards warmer waters searching for suitable places to give birth to their young which are already 15 feet long and can weigh close to a tonne. This impressive whale movement started many months ago in the cold waters of the Antarctic. There are many other species to be seen such as dolphins and sharks so keep your eyes peeled.

If you are a wildlife fanatic and dream of seeing iconic species, this is a journey not to be missed.

If you're looking for an epic wildlife experience, then a safari in Tanzania will certainly tick all the boxes. Every year, millions of wildebeest and zebra cross the Serengeti , in search of fresh water and grazing pastures.

This itinerary follows the migration during calving season, a particularly exciting time as thousands of wildebeest are born, as well as zebras and gazelles. The high numbers of young and inexperienced animals are a magnet for predators such as lions, leopards and cheetahs who stalk the plains – making your chances of seeing a chase or kill very high.

Another highlight of this trip is visiting the stunning Ngorongoro Crater with stunning panoramic views from the ridge and a chance to see the Big Five on the crater floor.

As well as 4x4 safaris you’ll also try a canoeing safari, tree-top walks, a night safari and a walking safari sleeping out in the bush – all incredible experiences that will get your adrenalin pumping.

One of the joys of this unique Serengeti migration safari is being totally immersed in the pristine wilderness of one of the most famous national parks in Africa and having the freedom to explore some of the more remote corners where you'll encounter few other visitors.

This is an active eco-safari holiday with a difference, staying in a wonderful mixture of high-end luxury lodges, and close-to-nature tented Green Camps.

This adventure packs in a lot and rightly so… Peter, our Namibia expert has hand-picked, exquisite accommodation – all of which command superfluous vistas and a homely feel.

If getting off the beaten track is high up on your bucket list then this journey will be right up your street.

Entabeni was one of the best experiences I have had in South Africa so far. The safari seemed so authentic despite the power lines and fencing. Guaranteed to see wildlife and we were lucky to have some very close experiences with chameleons, elephant, cheetah, wilderbeast and lions. I stayed at the lakeside lodge and really liked it. The food is probably of average standard, but the service was beautiful. Rooms were okay, but really only slept in it so doesn’t bother me. Toilet didn’t flush properly; but shower was AMAZING! Really recommend Will definitely be returning!

Good day Kody D Thank you for taking the time to provide some feedback on your stay at Lakeside Lodge. We are delighted to read that you had an enjoyable stay. We look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

Stayed here for 3 nights earlier in January.Lodge is in a wonderful location and the wildlife was excellent. The rooms were looking a bit sad and in need of some updating food was so so but I guess the main reason for this type of holiday is to view the wild life.

Good day roaming688 Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Lakeside Lodge. We are delighted to read that you had an enjoyable stay and we do hope to welcome you back in the future.

We have just enjoyed a wonderful week at Lakeside Lodge. The staff are delightful, very friendly and helpful. On our last night they sang traditional songs to us as a choir. Our game rangers, Jan, Piet and Pietrus were absolutely amazing. The rooms are in single storey blocks with thatched roofs and balconies overlooking the lake. The beds are very comfortable, although the furniture is old and eclectic with doors which swing open. The tap water is very sandy and was rather a shock to start with but when on a game reserve miles from anywhere you have to compromise. There are animals near the rooms, monkeys impala lizards and a few snakes. The food was always freshly cooked and was much more like home cooking than restaurant food. I really enjoyed it. We saw a fantastic range of animals on the reserve and from really close up. I would thoroughly recommend the hotel.

Good Day Marion A, Thank you for taking the time to review your stay at Lakeside Lodge. We are delighted to read that you had a legendary experience and enjoyed the game drives, food and friendly staff. It is important to remember, that due to the higher than average mineral content of the water, the water can have a slight discoloration. We promise that the water is of a high quality and safe to drink. We do look forward to welcoming you back in the future.

We've had an amazing experience. Super location and very friendly staff. It is for sure one of the toplodges that we have visited. Food and drinks were good. Go there and enjoy a fantastic experience.

Furiosa won the holiday box office over Garfield by a hair.

It was a close race, but the wasteland warrior of “ Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga ” came out slightly ahead of the plump orange cat with an estimated $32 million in ticket sales over the four-day weekend according to studio estimates Monday. “ The Garfield Movie ,” a Sony release, earned $31.1 million in its first four days.

The dust won’t officially settle on the showdown until Tuesday when final numbers are reported, but for now at least Warner Bros. has the No. 1 movie in the country. Including international showings, its running global earnings are at $64.8 million. But victory is a long way off for the $168 million production starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth. George Miller’s prequel stormed theaters riding on great reviews and was expected to have at least a slightly stronger debut.

For Sony, the launch of the more modestly budgeted “The Garfield Movie” is a win even without the bragging rights of being in first place. The animated film featuring the voice of Chris Pratt is likely to have a long life at the box office the summer holiday beginning for school age children. With its early international release, “The Garfield Movie” has already earned over $91.1 million against its $60 million production budget.

But this weekend has also been a sobering one for Hollywood as one of the worst Memorial Day weekend box office showings in decades , excluding 2020 when theaters were closed. Ticket sales are down 22% from 2023 and the gap may just get bigger as the summer goes on. Remember, at this point last year “Barbenheimer” hadn’t even happened .

Estimated ticket sales for Friday through Monday at U.S. and Canadian theaters, according to Comscore. Final domestic figures will be released Tuesday.
