Sun City AZ Experience presentations are provided by resident volunteers on specific dates each month and are available to current, new and prospective Sun City AZ residents, and realtors at the Sun City Welcome Center . The 90-minute Experience presentation begins with a guided walking tour of Bell Recreation Center , the largest Recreation Centers of Sun City (RCSC) recreation center in Sun City AZ.  Learn about what living in Sun City AZ has to offer including eight state-of-the art recreation centers and eight meticulously maintained golf courses, amazing entertainment and events, community lakes, the Sun Bowl open-air amphitheater, and 120+ clubs all available to RCSC Members and Privilege Cardholders. You will also learn some Sun City AZ history and about vital community organizations. We will be happy to answer your questions about Sun City AZ topics.

If you have not received confirmation of your reservation, you’d like to speak to a staff member regarding scheduling a Sun City AZ Experience, or you need to cancel a previously scheduled reservation, please contact the Sun City Visitor & Welcome Center at 623-977-5000 or toll free at 1-844-4 SUN CITY and choose option 3. If a Sun City AZ Experience is not available on a day you will be visiting, you don’t have to miss out.  The Sun City Welcome Center is happy to acquaint you with our extraordinary community – just stop by and see us at your convenience!

Post Malone Drops 2024 Tour Dates Ahead of Country Album

Post Malone already has fans eagerly awaiting his F-1 Trillion album dropping Aug. 16. Now, he stokes the fire with a list of tour dates coming in 2024!

The F-1 Trillion Tour will accompany the album. The singer will kick off his 21 show outing in Salt Lake City on Sept. 8 and end in Nashville on Oct.19.

“I love y’all so very much and I’m so excited to get out and play new music for you,” Post shared in a press release. See the full list of tour dates below.

The “I Had Some Help” singer posted the news to social media on Tuesday, June 25.

Fans are clearly eager to experience Malone live, many commenting additional cities they wish he would travel to.

While we aren’t aware of the songs that will make the cut on the singer’s album, we do have six songs we know for certain we will be hearing.

Youth-led tours show North Lawndale culture, history

Youth-led walking tours from My Block My Hood My City aim to give attendees a look at the culture and history North Lawndale has to offer.

Under the beating sun, the group was joined by Mayor Brandon Johnson on Juneteenth to show a different side of the neighborhood.

“Our Black youth constantly get targeted,” Johnson said. “From the mischaracterization of their existence and the lack of recognizing their humanity and their beauty to the very real one-sided coverage and perspective of Black young people. Today is a reminder of why it’s important for us to fully express our liberation.”

In its sixth year, the youth-led walking tour has added stops around North Lawndale and highlights community gardens, a local grocer, churches, restaurants and the history of the neighborhood.

“We generally take teenagers from their communities on educational field trips and expose them to different things. ... It’s called our Explorers program,” said Jahmal Cole, founder of My Block My Hood My City. “This is kind of that in reverse. So we bring the world into their community.”

“They get to change the narrative, and they always hear negative things about their neighborhood, but you can walk with them and hear their pride,” Cole said. “It gives them presentation skills for college and allows them to do storytelling.”

The tours also are a way for students to earn money during the summer. Most are paid $15 an hour, Cole said.

The tour stops at sites like the MLK Legacy Apartments, a memorial to King’s time in North Lawndale in the 1960s.

Guides also stop the group at the Stone Temple Baptist Church, a Chicago landmark built by Jewish immigrants that was the site of many speeches by King.

Veronica Galindo, a Chicago Lawn resident, and her boyfriend attended the tour after learning about it via social media. She didn’t realize the tour would be led by students, she said.

“Rather than ‘Let’s take the kids downtown,’ it’s like ‘No, let’s go to the community.’ That was so cool,” Galindo said.

It was Xavier Ferguson’s first day as a tour guide. With about 10 other guides, the 15-year-old Austin resident spent the two hours talking individually to attendees about the stops.

“I’m actually learning a lot about this neighborhood,” he said. “While we are teaching people about it, I’m learning about it.”

“We have good vibes, we laugh, we make sure that our guests feel welcome,” said Jubrea James, a 22-year-old tour guide. “We make sure that everybody feels safe.”

“[People can expect] good energy, to see young kids share what they love about their community,” she added. “They should expect the long walk and expect some good sandwiches.”

For the hungry walker, the stop at Douglas Park Dollar and Food is a highlight.

Although it’s primarily a corner store, the owner sells hoagies that draw in crowds, Cole said.

After grabbing sandwiches, the group will stop to eat at Douglass Park before finishing the tour at the Farm on Ogden, a produce market and grocer.

Tours run every Saturday from 9 to 11 a.m. Tickets are $30.

Local News | Ellicott City violinist to join National Youth Orchestra at Carnegie Hall, tour South America

It was the 18-year-old Ellicott City student’s final music lesson before she joins the National Youth Orchestra this summer at Carnegie Hall, where she will perform under the baton of former Baltimore Symphony Orchestra music director Marin Alsop and tour South America.

So Mutchnik wanted Cai to be at her best in such impressive company. He thought she might have a shot at being selected as the orchestra’s concertmaster, the player who helps the conductor guide the orchestra through the music.

“Even though ‘Scheherazade’ is imploring the sultan, don’t be too emotional at first,” Mutchnik told Cai. “Take that passage a little bit slower. Change the color so that it is a little thicker and less brilliant.”

Cai began the passage from Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov’s “Scheherazade” again at a more stately pace. The music emanating from the violin was still lush and full of magic, but now it sounded more self-possessed. This was a violin in full command of its considerable powers, a violin capable of enchanting the most powerful potentate in the land and persuading him to do its bidding.

“Very good,” Mutchnik told Cai. “You’ve got it now.”

This will be quite a summer for Cai, a recent graduate of Marriotts Ridge High School. Following a family trip to China in June to visit relatives, she will perform in New York’s Carnegie Hall in July and play alongside the famed French pianist Jean-Yves Thibaudet. Then, she will join other members of the youth orchestra traveling to Brazil, Uruguay and Argentina, and meet with Gustavo Dudamel, who will become music director of the New York Philharmonic in 2026.

And after that, she will begin college as a freshman at the University of Maryland, College Park.

That lineup would be enough to make anyone’s head spin. But for Cai, her violin has always been a stabilizing force.

“Music’s always been a huge part of my life,” Cai said. “When I’m trying to tell a story through music, I get into a kind of flow state. I try to really feel it and to bring my emotions out.”

The National Youth Orchestra was created in 2013, the brainchild of Clive Gillinson, Carnegie Hall’s executive and artistic director, who wondered why the U.S. didn’t have a youth orchestra similar to the one he had been part of in Great Britain.

Each summer, Carnegie Hall trains and tours three ensembles for students ages 16 to 19: the main classical orchestra in which Cai will participate, a junior orchestra for students ages 14 to 17 known as “NYO2,” and a jazz ensemble.

Douglas Beck, director of artist training programs for the organization, said about 200 teens were selected for the three ensembles this summer, or about one-fifth of the roughly 1,000 young performers who auditioned.

In addition to Cai, other Maryland teens participating in the main youth orchestra include violinist Anna Hilderbrand from Mount Savage, oboist Kyle Cho from Potomac, and violists Katherine Eunbee Song from Potomac and Katie Hwang from Rockville.

The young musicians will have an opportunity to interact with their South American counterparts while on tour. After they return to the U.S., they will meet teen musicians from around the world during the first week of August as part of the new World Orchestra Week, which will bring five youth orchestras to New York from Africa, Asia, Europe and Latin America.

Beck said he can’t wait.

“What happens over three or four days with young people can be transformative,” he said.

“These are orchestras that will play their hearts out with joy and energy and who are so responsive to feedback. They soak up everything that their teachers and conductors have to offer.”

In a way, Cai has been preparing for this summer for her entire life.

She comes from a musical family; her mother and grandmother teach piano, her older sister, Gloria, plays the cello, and her twin sister, Sophia, is a pianist who served as the accompanist for Olivia’s Carnegie Hall audition.

Like her twin, Cai started on the piano at age 4. But when she was in the third grade, she switched to violin, began studying with Mutchnik and never looked back.

“The violin is so expressive and beautiful and you can do so much with it,” she said.

Cai participated last summer in NYO2, where she formed friendships with other gifted and passionate young musicians. But she said the part of the summer she’s looking forward to the most is performing under Alsop’s baton.

“I grew up going to concerts at the BSO when she was music director,” Cai said. “She’s so inspirational. I’m excited about having the chance to play under her.”

Alsop wrote in an email from Hamburg, Germany, where she was conducting North Germany’s radio orchestra, that she didn’t hesitate to interrupt her busy international career to work with the young performers at Carnegie Hall. This will be Alsop’s second appearance with the national youth orchestra, which she previously led in 2017.

“As you know, I am deeply committed to giving back,” wrote Alsop, who created the BSO’s acclaimed OrchKids program that uses music instruction to bring about social change.

“NYO is another manifestation of Carnegie’s unwavering commitment to future generations. I’m thrilled to be able to join for this anniversary tour.”

Noting that Cai won third place in the Radda Rise International String Competition last summer, Mutchnik said he has no doubt that his student could be a professional musician if she chooses.

“Olivia has always been very precocious,” Mutchnik said.

“Many people can play the notes, but they don’t know what to do with them. But Olivia seems to innately understand how to express the subtlety of music. She plays with a depth that is equal to advanced college students.

“When I work with Olivia, I feel like I’m coaching and giving advice to an experienced adult. I’m not building her from scratch, I’m just putting on the finishing touches. Teaching her has been a total joy really.”
