Destinations, 5 ways to enjoy the blue mountain in jamaica.
Scenic Views, Crisp Waterfalls and lush rainforests- The Blue Mountain offers the ideal relaxed environment for nature lovers seeking to experience something outside the beaten paths (or hustle and bustle of the city).
The Mountain offers the best of both worlds, showcasing nature at its finest for both the adventurous and those wanting a more relaxed experience. Get your adrenaline pumping through the hiking trails or get cozy and intimate while doing a picnic at the peak and listen to the fresh flowing falls cascading down the hills of the mountain. The Blue Mountain is an absolute beauty and treasure waiting to be explored and experienced.
Join us and do these five activities to get the best piece of paradise on the Mountain:
Biking the Blue
It is said that the best ways to experience the Blue Mountain are by foot and bike. The Blue Mountain offers you a beautiful way to see Jamaica through the downhill bicycle tour that is sure to keep you at the edge of your seat-literally! Indulge in the rich history and culture of the Caribbean and make amazing memories as you ride through the mountainous terrain.
Capture beautiful moments with the ones you love in the once in a lifetime adventure that showcases the views of Jamaica only to be seen from the country’s highest peak. Put your body to the test and let us take on the Mountain by bike.
Hiking the Hills
It's the perfect time to gather a group of friends and traverse the rustic hills of the Blue Mountain . Explore the thick forested trails, inhale the fresh, clean air while listening to the chirping of the over one hundred species of birds humming along the trail.
It is said that hiking provides numerous benefits for those seeking to maintain a healthy lifestyle. It will also relax and center your mind while providing an opportunity to enjoy the panoramic view of the peak and lows of the valley. What would be interesting is to pair hiking and biking-that’s an adventure that would unreel new memories and new levels of happiness amongst those seeking to have a good time!
Wonderful Waterfalls
The adventures in Wonderfall are not all scary but there are warm family oriented experiences to share with those you love. It is said in Jamaica that the way to a man’s heart is through his belly and the ‘Puddin Man’ in St. Ann is a great way to share the warmth with your loved ones and family this fall.
It is said that you can wash your worries away at any one of the Waterfalls located within the Blue Mountains . After hiking and biking through the mountains, get your hair a little wet by plunging into the cascading falls and experience the cool crisp water below. It may be a little chilly- but experience nature in its purest unspoilt form as the water beats and massages all your pain and troubles away.
Feel the beat of the falls within your bones or relax with a refreshing swim in the mini pools. Whatever way you choose, experience the paradise that is The Blue Mountain.
Picnics at the Peak
Some good food and a beautiful view-sounds just about perfect. At the peak of the Blue Mountain at just about 7,000ft you can enjoy a beautiful picnic with your special someone . Take a moment to relax, unwind and as Jamaicans say ‘full yuh belly’ (full your belly) and bask in the beautiful flora and fauna that surrounds you.
The Mountains provide a space for you to unravel your picnic towels and become one with nature as you breathe in the fresh mountain air, look up at the beautiful blue skies while enjoying good food. It does not get better than that! Picnics can also be had by the river - it gives the best of both worlds, for those seeking a marvelous time in Jamaica.
Coffee & Conversation
Blue Mountain is synonymous with coffee ! You cannot experience Blue Mountain without seeing the coffee plant and tasting some freshly brewed coffee, which is known globally for its excellent and rich taste. See the coffee beans before processing as these plants line the hiking trails and also walk through the coffee farmlands and hear first hand from planters within their fields.
It is amazing to see those little red beans and imagine how they can be turned into rich Jamaican coffee that is loved and enjoyed by many. Make sure to bring some of the coffee to your picnic at the peak. This is a must do when visiting the Blue Mountain and ensure you purchase some of this coffee to bring back home.
Visiting Jamaica would not be complete without experiencing The Blue Mountain. For those seeking to get their adrenaline racing or those seeking a more intimate and relaxing experience - the Mountain offers it all! The air is a little fresher, the water a little cooler and the skies a little bluer at The Mountain. Wonder this way and lets Go Beyond the beaten path.

Blue Mountain Peak Hike
The Blue Mountain Peak Trail is the route to Jamaica’s highest point, which sits at 2,256 metres (7,401 ft.) The trail covers a distance of 9.3 km (5.8 miles) over steep terrain and is an intense 4-hour hike to the summit.
The Blue Mountain Peak Trail falls within the pristine, primary forest of the national park and UNESCO World Heritage Site. The route is ideal for observing native plants and over 200 bird species; including most of Jamaica's endemic birds including the rare Jamaican Blackbird. There are no large or poisonous animals in the national park.
Above 2,000 metres, as you near the summit, the lush canopy gives way to an elfin forest; where trees and shrubs are stunted and gnarled due to high elevation exposure.
What you will need:
- Hiking for trail shoes/sneakers
- Liquid refreshment/water
- Warm Jacket
The classic way to experience the hike is to begin the ascent just after midnight to meet the dawn of the new day at the Blue Mountain Peak. Overnighting at Portland Gap allows you a little later start (at about 3:30am). A day trip is also possible if you leave Kingston at 6:00am and this approach allows for more time viewing and experiencing the cloud forest.
Another traditional experience is travelling up to the Trailhead (Jacob's Ladder/Abbey Green) in 4WD Land Rovers - these are old but well maintained Land Rovers owned by local community members and used for transportation of coffee and other produce, Christmas Trees and hikers.
N.B.: There are other costs involved, e.g. transportation, accommodation and meals and trail guide

The Blue Mountains Experience
Mystic mountains: Jamaica's Blue Peaks and legendary coffee
N estled in the heart of Jamaica, the Blue Mountains are a haven for nature enthusiasts, adventure seekers and coffee lovers alike. With their lush landscapes, cool climate and legendary coffee, these peaks offer an unforgettable experience that is both exhilarating and serene. Let’s go on a journey through the mystical Blue Mountains, exploring their natural beauty and the world-famous coffee that calls these heights home.
A breath of fresh air
From the moment you set foot in the Blue Mountains, you’re greeted by a refreshing breeze that seems to carry the whispers of ancient tales. The air is noticeably cooler here, a welcome tranquility from the tropical heat that blankets the rest of the island. As you ascend the winding roads, you’ll notice the change in vegetation, with towering eucalyptus trees and vibrant wildflowers dotting the landscape.
Hiking through paradise
For those who love hiking, the Blue Mountains are a paradise . The trails range from gentle walks to challenging treks, each offering its own unique perspective of the mountains. One of the most popular routes is the hike to Blue Mountain Peak, the highest point in Jamaica at 7,402 feet. The journey is not for the faint of heart but the reward is worth the effort. Reaching the summit at sunrise, as the first light of day breaks over the Caribbean Sea, is an experience that stays with you forever.
As you hike, you’ll be surrounded by the sounds of nature — the chirping of birds, the rustling of leaves and the distant rush of waterfalls. Keep an eye out for the Jamaican swallowtail, the largest butterfly in the Western Hemisphere, fluttering gracefully among the flora.
The coffee connection
No visit to the Blue Mountains is complete without indulging in the region’s most famous export: Blue Mountain Coffee. Renowned as one of the best coffees in the world, this brew is celebrated for its smooth, mild flavor and lack of bitterness. The unique conditions of the Blue Mountains — the rich soil, cool climate and misty mornings — create the perfect environment for growing coffee beans that are truly exceptional.
The history of Blue Mountain Coffee dates back to the early 18th century when coffee plants were first introduced to Jamaica . Today, the cultivation and production of this coffee are a labor of love, carried out by skilled farmers who have perfected the art over generations. Visiting a coffee plantation is a must-do activity, where you can learn about the entire process from bean to cup and, of course, sample the exquisite coffee.
Exploring the plantations
One of the highlights of any trip to the Blue Mountains is a tour of the coffee plantations. Walking through the rows of coffee bushes, you’ll gain a deep appreciation for the meticulous care that goes into producing each batch of coffee. The tours often include a visit to the processing facilities, where the beans are sorted, roasted and prepared for export.
The Craighton Estate is one of the most well-known plantations in the region. Dating back to 1765, it offers guided tours that provide a fascinating insight into the history and cultivation of Blue Mountain Coffee. As you sip on a freshly brewed cup of coffee, with the majestic peaks as your backdrop, it’s easy to see why this beverage has captivated coffee lovers worldwide.
Cultural richness and community spirit
The Blue Mountains are not just about natural beauty and coffee; they are also home to vibrant communities with rich cultural traditions. The local Maroon communities, descendants of runaway slaves, have preserved their unique heritage through music, dance and storytelling. Engaging with these communities offers a deeper understanding of the island’s history and the resilience of its people.
The annual Blue Mountain Music Festival is a celebration of this cultural richness. Held in the picturesque setting of the mountains, the festival features performances by local and international artists, showcasing the diverse musical landscape of Jamaica. From reggae and ska to folk and jazz, the music echoes through the valleys, creating a magical atmosphere.
Culinary delights
After a day of exploring and hiking, there’s nothing quite like indulging in the culinary delights of the Blue Mountains. The region’s fertile soil produces excellent coffee and a variety of fresh produce. Farm-to-table dining experiences are common here, with many restaurants sourcing their ingredients locally.
One such gem is EITS Cafe , nestled high in the mountains with breathtaking views. The menu features a fusion of Jamaican and Mediterranean flavors, with dishes crafted from organic produce grown on their farm. Dining here is an experience in itself, with the cool mountain air and panoramic vistas adding to the charm.
Relaxation and rejuvenation
For those seeking relaxation, the Blue Mountains offer numerous retreats and guesthouses where you can unwind and rejuvenate. Many of these accommodations are set amidst lush gardens and offer stunning views of the mountains. The Strawberry Hill Resort, with its luxurious cottages and infinity pool overlooking the peaks, is a perfect example of mountain serenity.
Spa treatments and yoga sessions are available, allowing you to immerse yourself in the tranquility of the surroundings. Whether you’re soaking in a hot tub with a view of the valleys below or enjoying a massage to the sounds of nature, relaxation comes effortlessly here.
A journey to remember
The Blue Mountains of Jamaica are a destination that captivates the senses and nourishes the soul. From the invigorating hikes and the enchanting coffee plantations to the rich cultural experiences and the serene retreats, every moment spent here is a step into a world of beauty and wonder.
As you bid farewell to the mystic mountains, you’ll carry with you a sense of connection to a place where nature and culture intertwine in perfect harmony. The Blue Mountains are more than just a destination; they are an experience that stays with you long after you’ve left their emerald embrace.
