We Tried The Most Popular Travel Itinerary Apps, And Here Is Our Favorite

T raveling is the best kind of adventure, but let's face it, the planning bit can sometimes feel like navigating a labyrinth of endless checkpoints. With countless booking confirmations, flight schedules, and activity plans, keeping track of everything can be daunting and borderline impossible, especially if it's all on paper. Enter the world of travel tools and apps designed to be the digital equivalent of a personal travel planner. But with so many options out there, which one is "The One"?

In our quest to find the best travel companion, we dove into the digital sea of travel tools. Drumroll, please, for TripIt , TripCase , Pebblar , and Wanderlog . We tested these four apps for their flashy features, real-world practicality, user-friendliness, overall design, and value. From itinerary creation to real-time updates, we explored the capabilities of these apps to determine which tool can transform chaotic planning into a streamlined experience. Note that these apps are not for booking, reviews, or travel content — you've got Expedia , Tripadvisor , and the rest for that. In this article, we are focusing solely on travel organizational tools.

To equalize the comparison, we'll focus on Paris, a basic multi-day journey to the city of love — for some history, French food, and metropolitan adventure. We'll take you through the ins and outs of each app, share some insights, and ultimately reveal our top pick. So, whether you're a globetrotter planning your next epic voyage or someone looking to organize a hassle-free business trip, join us as we uncover the travel tool that stands a cut above the rest.

For our first app, we've chosen TripIt , arguably the longest-running (since 2006) and most popular of the four. It has over 245,000 ratings averaging 4.8 stars on the App Store, with features in Travel+Leisure and Forbes  — so we decided to put it to the test. The key feature of TripIt is its ability to automatically create a streamlined master itinerary for every trip using all your travel confirmation emails, from flight bookings to hotel reservations. The app also provides destination-specific information like weather forecasts, local maps, and even medical safety.

While TripIt offers a free version, which is also offline accessible, there is an annual subscription called TripIt Pro for $67.99. This premium version includes additional features such as flight status updates, reward program tracking, and alternative flight suggestions in case of cancellations. The Pro version also has the Inner Circle feature, which allows you to invite others to join your itinerary. Although it's pricier, this elevated version would benefit anyone who is a frequent flier, travels for business, or is taking an elaborate trip with a group.

We found that TripIt worked very well for our Parisian escapade. The map is remarkably useful for seeing the city — the app has a diverse and thorough database of locations, with all the necessary information in the destination's profile. If you need to find a nearby hospital, ATM, or cup of coffee, TripIt has your back. As far as graphics go, the UX is clean, straightforward, and doesn't lag. For the risk-takers and the safe-siders, TripIt has a unique safety feature informing you if a location in your itinerary is above your pre-set personal risk level. It's like having a traveling guardian angel!

Not to be confused with TripIt,  TripCase is in a league of its own. It seems more popular with the Android crowd, with 19,200 reviews on Google Play averaging 3.9 stars. TripCase allows travelers to manually or automatically consolidate their plans into a single itinerary using booking emails. The app offers real-time flight alerts, itinerary-sharing options, destination information, travel document storage, offline access, and the ability to record trip notes.

The Trip Feed updates travelers with important information and reminders, such as check-in times, gate changes, and weather updates. Another unique feature is the app's affiliation with AirHelp . This claims management company can help you get compensated with up to $700 in the case of a flight delay, cancellation, or overbooking. TripCase has one in-app feature for purchase, a $5.99 annual subscription for Receipts, which saves and syncs all travel receipts. This might be prudent for business travelers, but otherwise, all the travel management capabilities of the app are completely free.

Paris and TripCase got along quite well. We loved that the app is connected with Uber, so we could hail a ride from Jadin du Luxembourg to La Palette to make it in time for a 6 PM dinner. It's also synced with trip tools like Waze and Google Maps for directions, which is perfect. Overall, TripCase's functions are more modest but include all the basics that a travel app should have, and they work well for the most part. The graphics of the app do appear more old-fashioned than the rest in this round-up. But for an app that is 95% free, TripCase will 100% empower your travels.

Pebblar is also a collaborative itinerary planner; however, it stands out as quite unique. A key feature of Pebblar is its map-based planning interface. You can plot all your travel plans on a map, which helps in understanding distances, travel times, and the geographical context of your itinerary. The app can also recommend places to visit based on the destination, user preferences, and even the Google star rating. There's also a feature for tracking expenses, transportation options (including a game-changing Uber feature ), offline access, opportunities for collaborative planning, document storage, and a travel checklist in-app.

The main difference between Pebblar and the other apps is that it doesn't automatically sync your confirmation emails to build an itinerary. Everything is done manually. However, it does make travel planning a lot more hands-on and invested, as users build their travel plans by adding flights, accommodations, and activities. Moreover, the app is not entirely free. You receive a 30-day free trial from the moment you register, but once that's done, you either pay $10 per itinerary or sign up for a $9.95 monthly subscription for unlimited itineraries.

We really liked the user-friendly and well-designed interface. The friendly UX and the map view helped with seeing Paris at a glance. The Explore option was outstanding — in a big touristy city, it isn't always wise to trust any old restaurant or cafe, and being able to filter in-app with Google ratings to find the right place is very helpful. Pebblar does hit a long checklist of features and seamlessly integrates them all into a single app. However, the manual input of plans, along with the mandatory subscription, may be a dealbreaker for some travelers.

Wanderlog is a modern app designed for all types of trips, with a 4.9 rating on the App Store and a 4.7 on Google Play. Wanderlog allows users to plan their journeys by creating a detailed itinerary, and automatically importing all booking reservations from their inbox into their trip plan. One of the standout features of Wanderlog is its collaborative aspect. You can plan trips with friends or family by sharing your journey and allowing others to add or edit plans.

The app has a most exhaustive list of integrated features: expense tracking and splitting, personalized suggestions, checklists, trip notes, offline access, attachment storage, an AI travel planner , and, oh dear, the list goes on. With that said, many of the premium features, like having offline access and being able to integrate your booking emails, are not included in the free version and come at a cost of $63.99 a year. The app's free basic features may be enough for some, but Wanderlog Pro is a big difference. There is also less emphasis on real-time travel updates in Wanderlog compared to the other apps.

Nonetheless, Wanderlog's design deserves a standing ovation, certainly more than any of the other apps. The attractive layout, intuitive UX, and seamless features were truly 10 out of 10. It was genuinely pleasant and easy to plan out a Parisian travel itinerary. And with an AI assistant, Wanderlog feels like a futuristic itinerary planner. Moreover, no other travel app had advice listings like "The 50 best cheap eats in Paris" — sounds like something we do here at Explore!

Which Popular Travel Tool Is Our Favorite?

And now to choose "The One" — no easy feat. Ultimately, picking the right travel app depends on individual needs. Moreover, each app is built differently. Through this process, we've come to the conclusion that for real-time updates and detailed itinerary management, TripIt and TripCase are top choices. For collaborative and visually-oriented planning, look to Wanderlog and Pebblar.

TripIt excels in creating itineraries from booking emails and offers valuable real-time travel updates. However, its more advanced features, including reward program tracking, are locked behind a Pro version. TripCase also provides real-time alerts for flight changes and has a simple, old-fashioned interface, but it's less focused on collaborative planning. Of the two, TripIt stands out for its more advanced and varied features, better UX, and value.

For those prioritizing group travel and map-based planning, Wanderlog emerges as a strong option. Its core features are available for free. However, for more, you'd have to pay. Pebblar is perfect for those who prefer a visual approach to manual itinerary creation. However, after a 30-day trial, its itinerary features require payment. Of the two, Wanderlog stands out for its stunning design, modern and intuitive features, and utility — both on subscription and without.

So, whether you're going to Paris or Panama, and whether you prioritize real-time flight updates, collaborative features, or a visually oriented planning experience, there's a travel app out there for you. Now that we've tried it, perhaps you can try it too!

Planning your next getaway? This list includes some of the best travel apps that make planning and organizing your vacation as enjoyable as the trip itself.

1. Best for Managing Itinerary: TripIt

2. best for discovering locations: tripadvisor, 3. best for traveling on a budget: wanderlog, 4. best for flight updates: flighty, 5. best for road trips: roadtrippers, 6. best for organization: tripcase, 7. best for converting currency: converter+.

Availability : Android | iOS

Price : Free with premium options

TripIt simplifies the chaotic process of managing your travel itinerary by combining all of your travel details into one easy-to-use platform. Once you download the app, log in using your email, or manually share your booking emails to TripIt’s email address, and the app will create a master itinerary for your trip.

When you book flights, hotels, car rentals, or activities, TripIt gathers all these details and organizes them into a single, all-in-one guidebook. Use it to view your entire trip at a glance, with all your tickets, confirmation numbers, addresses, and schedules in one place.

Tripit App

The app also provides real-time flight alerts. It works by monitoring your flights for any changes, delays, or cancellations and sends you notifications to keep you in the loop. Another TripIt feature is its ability to share your itinerary with others. If you’re traveling with family, friends, or colleagues, share your plans directly through the app. However, some of these features are only available to Pro users.

Price : Free

TripAdvisor is a good option for discovering the best places to stay, eat, and explore during your travels. When you log in to the app, you will see four main sections; Hotels , Restaurants , Things to Do , and Forums .

The Hotels section offers detailed information about accommodations, ranging from luxury resorts to budget-friendly hostels. Each listing includes photos, descriptions, amenities, and most importantly, reviews from other travelers. You can find multiple dining options in the area where you are staying to plan to stay, including menu highlights with photos of dishes, and read about other diners’ experiences.

The Things to Do section lists various attractions, tours, and activities you can engage in at your destination. Finally, the Forums section is a good resource for getting personalized travel advice. Ask questions and get answers from a community of experienced, like-minded travelers. The forums cover a wide range of topics, from visa requirements to the best time to visit a particular place.

Apart from these, the app also lists special offers by hotels, restaurants, and similar places that can help you find great deals and save money. Additionally, TripAdvisor has articles on various travel-related topics that provide tips and insights to enhance your travel experience.

Wanderlog is another travel planning app designed to streamline your travel experience. When you first start using the app, it asks you some of your travel preferences to create an experience based on that. The interface is quite similar to that of TripIt.

On the homepage, you can see travel guides from other users (which you can use as inspiration for your own), weekend trip options, and some popular destinations worth visiting. If you already have a place in mind, you can book your hotel in the next tab, directly from the app. You can also view the top deals and promos by clicking on the tag icon in the toolbar. However, it is important to note that most of the deals are only available to pro users.

Wanderlog

To plan a trip on the app, click on the plus icon in the center of the toolbar, and choose Trip plan . Enter important details, like your destination and trip dates. You have the option to invite tripmates to keep everyone in the loop. The app also has a budgeting tool that allows you to log expenses as you go, categorize them, and see a breakdown of your spending, similar to Google Pay .

Wanderlog Deals

While the free version offers a number of great features, you can also upgrade to the premium version if you are looking for offline access, route optimization, unlimited file attachments, Google Maps integrations, and more.

Availability : iOS

If you fly frequently or just want to stay updated on your flight status, Flighty can be a good option. The app allows you to track flights after you enter your flight number, airline, or route. Once you’ve added your flight, Flighty starts providing detailed and up-to-the-minute information.

One of the main features of this app is real-time flight tracking. It uses data from multiple sources to give you precise details about your flight’s status, including departure and arrival times, gate information, and any delays or cancellations. This helps you avoid the stress of unexpected changes and plan accordingly.

Screenshot

Flighty also sends proactive notifications. You’ll receive alerts about delays, gate changes, and even aircraft swaps, often before the airline notifies you. The app issues a Flighty passport every year, which allows you to see how far you have traveled over time.

To add a flight to Flighty, click on the Search to add flights bar, and enter your flight number. If you are a pro user, you can simply forward your email itinerary to the app to add your flights automatically. Alternatively, you can also connect the app to TripIt, if you are using it, to import all your flight data. Once this is done, you will be able to see an arrival forecast (provides information about the flight route), aircraft information, a detailed timetable of the flight, and details about where your flight is (for pro users only).

If you are planning a road trip and want to make the most of your journey, Roadtrippers is an excellent app to consider. This app helps you plan your itinerary, discover interesting stops along your route, and find hidden gems that you may otherwise miss.

Begin by entering your starting point and destination, and the app will map out your route. You have two options to plan the trip; do it yourself, or let the app do it via AI. The latter is only available for premium users.

Roadtrippers App

Regardless of the option you choose, Roadtrippers offers an extensive database of points of interest. As you plot your journey, the app suggests various attractions, restaurants, scenic points, and accommodations along the way. You can look through the options by clicking on the search bar at the top and choosing your preferred category. This ensures you have a rich and engaging travel experience, rather than just focusing on getting from point A to point B.

Like other trip-planning apps in this list, Roadtrippers also offers a dedicated Guides section that provides curated itineraries and travel guides to help inspire your road trip plans. Browse through them to find ideas that match your interests and incorporate them into your own itinerary.

TripCase, as the name suggests, acts like a virtual briefcase for all your travel plans by keeping everything organized and easily accessible.

Once you have downloaded the app, start adding your trips. There are two ways to do this: manually or automatically, by forwarding your confirmation emails to TripCase’s email address. You have the option to add information like your flights, lodging, car rental, ground transportation, activities, restaurants, and a lot more to the itinerary.

Tripcase

The app will also provide you all the real-time updates regarding your trip. You’ll receive instant notifications about any changes to your flights, such as delays, cancellations, or gate changes.

You can share your itinerary and travel plans with family, friends, or colleagues as well, so that everyone stays in the loop. TripCase has a Contacts section, where you can add your favorite contacts by importing them from your device’s phonebook.

Tripcase Options

When you are traveling abroad, managing currency exchanges, measurements, and time zones can often be a headache. In situations like these, you can use Converter+, a tool that handles various types of conversions with ease.

Converter+ has a wide range of conversion features. The most popular one, the currency converter, is updated in real time to provide you access to the latest exchange rates. This can be great for budgeting and shopping abroad, as it helps you understand exactly how much you’re spending in your home currency.

Best Travel Apps Converter Plus

Apart from this, you will also find other conversion options on the app. For instance, it includes tools for converting temperatures, length/distance, time, mortgage, and even tips. While traveling, the most useful out of all these can be the time converter, as you may need to keep track of time across different regions. It can come in handy during such situations as scheduling a global meeting from your hotel room or trying to connect with family and friends back home.

With these top travel apps, you’re well-equipped to plan and organize your next vacation with ease. Each app offers unique features that cater to different aspects of travel so that your adventure is as stress-free and enjoyable as possible. Also consider pairing these with any one of the apps that help you stay safe while traveling or a language learning app to communicate easily.

Even in the so-called paperless age, planning a long holiday can involve a lot of documents.

There are e-tickets for your flights, of course, but you’ll also need booking references for your hotels, any tours you’ve paid for, transfers to the airport, train tickets, and bus bookings.

And that’s on top of details about places and restaurants you want to visit.

Outsourcing all of this documentation to an app can be incredibly handy, however, and it comes with a host of unexpected benefits, from knowing more than your fellow travellers about airport transit times, and knowing more than the airline is telling you about delays.

These are three of the best travel organisers to try.

TRIPCASE ( APPLE IOS / GOOGLE ANDROID , FREE)

This app can act as a repository for all your important travel information, from basics such as your flight details, accommodation and car rental, to restaurant, tour, and cruise bookings.

Best of all, you add details to this app by simply forwarding a booking confirmation to its email address and it populates the details in your app.

The app can also provide a lot more information than a standard printout, and will give you access to your plane’s seat map, weather at your destination, a list of alternative flights, and airport maps.

TripCase will also warn you when your flight has a gate assigned to it, when check-in is open and, if your flight is delayed, this app may warn you about it before the airline does.

TripCase is a free app that can list your travel appointments in one place and check for flight delays.

TRIPIT PRO (APPLE IOS/GOOGLE ANDROID, $US49/YR)

The premium version of TripIt feels like having a travel agent lurking in your smartphone.

It scans your email inbox for travel booking confirmations and adds travel plans to the app automatically, it will send you an SMS message in real-time if there’s a delay to your flight, and it will help you find alternative flights if the delay is bad.

TripIt has also paired with other providers to let users track when their favourite seats become available, and detect when you’re eligible for a flight refund (when the price of your flight drops).

The app can also share your itinerary with friends and family members automatically, remind you when it’s time to leave for the airport, give you guidance when swapping airport terminals, and alert you if your flight gate changes.

The Google Trips app automatically imports your itinerary from your inbox and lets you download it for viewing offline.

GOOGLE TRIPS (APPLE IOS/GOOGLE ANDROID, FREE)

The tech giant brings its own special something to travel planning in this app, which also scans your inbox and imports your plans.

This free app adds important features to the mix by making it easy to download your itinerary to view it even when you don’t have an internet connection, and by providing shortcuts to popular attractions and restaurants.

Those attractions, which can be bookmarked in the app, naturally come with reviews, star ratings, and maps to help you find them.

After saving sights within the app, you can add them to a daily plan.

TripCase review – a handy travel app

check my trip vs tripcase

TripCase is a handy free app that stores your travel arrangements and bookings in one place so that you can access it from a web browser, on your smart phone or tablet.  I have been thinking for awhile that there must be a better way to store all my travel bookings than in an email folder, so I was happy to discover that TripCase is it.

TripCase

I love the trip countdown

How TripCase works

There are just a few steps:

1. Create an account.  You can do this with Facebook or using your email address and name.

2. Add a new trip.  You just need to give it a name.  For example, in the screenshot above my trip is named Singapore.

3. Email any bookings for your trip to [email protected]

4. You will be notified when they have been added to your account.  This is quick.

5. Go into TripCase, see your booking details and add them to the trip you created.

You can also add activities, accommodation, flights, etc to your trip manually if you do not have a suitable booking confirmation.

TripCase

I can easily flick through all the details of my trip

You then can view your booking details whenever you want.  There are several different ways to view them, such as the Timeline view below.

My verdict on TripCase

I am very happy with TripCase.  I used it for my recent trip to Singapore.  It easily imported my flight, accommodation and activity details, except in the case of a pass I bought that had no exact details in the booking confirmation and no date.  I wasn’t surprised it didn’t work, so I just added it manually which was easy.  There wasn’t really a learning curve as it was so straight forward.

The best part about TripCase is how easy it is to view everything.  Any time I wanted to see a detail of my trip, I could just grab my iPhone and there it was, whether I was online or not.  Once it came time to go on my holiday, I also loved the maps associated with the bookings.  I was actually able to use the “get directions” function when I was in my hotel in Singapore to get back to the airport. It told me what trains/buses to catch and when.

TripCase

How to get back to the airport

I also like that it tells me what time check in or out is for my accommodation.  It updated flight changes automatically.  It also emailed me when my departure gate changed on my flight to Singapore while I was at the airport.  Another useful feature is being able to share either the entire trip or aspects of it with other people, so I could share all my booking details with my husband.

TripCase also works by creating an account and using their website at TripCase.com  or by downloading from Google Play for android phones. I used the app on my iPhone .

I am already using it for all my upcoming trips and sharing the details with J. I am also meeting up with my mum on one trip, so we have been able to share our flight and accommodation details for this with each other too.

TripCase Upcoming Trips

It easily stores the zillion bookings I have for the next 8 months

TripCase sponsored me to write this review.  As always, my thoughts are my own, and I love this app!

Have you tried TripCase? Do you use any useful travel apps?

The Best Travel Itinerary Mangers – TripIt, Kayak, TripCase, and WorldMate

check my trip vs tripcase

One of the blogs I follow ( Thread Tripping ) recently had a post about different itinerary managers.  These managers offer a convenient place to keep all of your reservation information and dates.  I had no idea there were options other than Tripit so I signed up for all of them and gave them a try.  I imported my next three trips: a weekend in San Diego, my Honeymoon, and a ski trip to Utah.  It included a variety of air and hotel types including a Southwest booking for two people on points, which turned out to be the most difficult to import because of the way Southwest generates two confirmation numbers for one email.  Here are my thoughts and the one I’m going to be using going forward.

UPDATE: 2/21/17:  This post has become pretty popular since I put it up a year ago so I took the top two (TripIt and Kayak My Trips) and have done an updated and more in-depth comparison which you can read about here:   TripIt vs. Kayak My Trips .

Lets start by discussing some features that all of these sites share.  The biggest is that you simply forward a confirmation email to them and they automatically parse the email for the information and add it to your account.  They all also have the ability to manually add data but I can’t see how that would ever be useful if the email thing works.  It is worth noting that this email parsing is extremely complicated since it needs to be able to work with any email over thousands of companies; unfortunately, it doesn’t always work.  They also all have the ability to merge multiple trips together which is useful if you first send it the flight there and then the flight back with nothing in between and it assumes you have two trips.  Each of them has an app available for Android and iOS, which makes it much easier to use on the road.  Finally, they also all have the ability to share your itinerary with others which is both nice and expected at this point.

We should start with TripIt since it’s the most widely known one and gets recommend a lot.  TripIt correctly added everything I sent at it.  When emails included multiple travelers it handled it perfectly including multiple loyalty numbers, confirmation numbers, and ticket numbers.  Unfortunately, it doesn’t handle layovers as well as I’d like and often split a simple one stop flight into two flights and makes the layover info harder to find.  it correctly finds the aircraft type but doesn’t include terminal information.  For hotels, it correctly found the loyalty number, confirmation number, and room type.  My biggest gripe with TripIt is that it often orders things in a weird way.  If you are flying into a city and then staying in the hotel there, it will often order it as hotel then flight or sometimes flight then hotel then flight.  if you’re checking out of one hotel and into another, it will sometimes mix these up as well.  Thankfully you can manually edit the times for these which usually fixes the order, but shouldn’t be necessary.  Tripit has some cool collaboration features (when they work) that make it easy for multiple people to add to a trip together or just add viewers to the trip that can’t edit.  It also allows you to connect with other TripIt users and see their plans.  Kinda creepy but I’ve found it useful a couple times and they make it easy to understand how to make a trip private.  TripIt doesn’t handle automatically adding things like tours and events very well and mostly works on Hotels, Flights, and Cars; though you can always manually edit them.  My final complaint is that TripIt is just ugly.  It has lots of ads on the side (often very colorful and moving) and has tons of wasted white space in the middle of the information.  It also wastes a lot of space trying to give you directions and weather info between each event.  Honestly TripIt, I have apps for travel and weather already so I’m not going to be using yours.  You can delete the travel but not the weather if you want to clean things up.  They also seem to want to sell you other services for TripIt pro but I don’t find it worth the extra money.

Handles multiple travelers well Good Collaboration Features

Ugly – moving ads and wasted space Doesn’t get terminal info Weird ordering of events

WorldMate correctly read in all of the reservations I sent at it and made the trips as you would expect.  Based on the buttons at the top of a trip, WorldMate seems to mostly work for Flights, Hotels, Car Rentals, Public Transportation, and Meetings.  It doesn’t offer an easy way to add other things like tours.  For flights, it has a checkin button to make it easier to checkin before a flight, but I couldn’t test this since I don’t have a flight for a few weeks.  For the hotels I imported, it didn’t include the loyalty number, the room type, or the confirmation number.  However, on the flights, it did include the terminal info, ticket number, confirmation number,  price, and aircraft type.  The negative here was that it didn’t include layover info and only included the ticket number and confirmation number for one of the people flying not both.  We were given two different confirmation numbers for one of the flights since it was an award ticket on Southwest and it only put in the info for mine.  On trips when we had only one confirmation but two ticket numbers, it still only included mine.  The share feature can share your itinerary over email with somebody but lacks any kind of collaboration.  You can add your linked-in information and it will tell you when you are traveling near somebody you’re connected with that also uses WorldMate.  I’d rather have Facebook integration personally but want the ability to choose who I share my travel info with.  This gets into the creepy and dangerous category if you aren’t careful.  This also assumes they use WorldMate and since it gets the least attention of these four, chances aren’t good.  My final though on WorldMate is that it is just ugly and full of ads.  It looks more like they want to advertise and convince you to buy a flight from them than it does provide a good experience.  The sad thing is that it still looks better than TripIt.

Gets terminal info and aircraft type Button for easy check-in

Limited event types No Collaboration Didn’t get all ticket and confirmation numbers Ugly with lots of ads

TripCase is another one that gets recommended a lot, probably because it is built by Sabre and many workplaces use it.  When moving from TripIt to TripCase the first thing I noticed was how much cleaner it was.  It doesn’t have all the adds on the side, except for it’s own stuff, and is a much better use of space.  I like how it has the most needed info available at a glance but you can click details to get more info.  It does this much better than TripIt and WorldMate.  I also like that you can manually add directions or weather between events, it doesn’t auto add them.  However, TripCase failed to import a Southwest flight, probably because it contained two travelers with two different confirmation numbers.  It also failed to retrieve a lot of info from the hotel: no confirmation number, loyalty number, or room type.  When it did pull in a flight, it didn’t get the ticket numbers or the loyalty numbers.  TripCase has no collaboration features though it does allow you to share your itinerary.  It didn’t get the terminal info for our flights or even suggest there was a layover but did get the aircraft type.  TripCase also gets lots of complaints about not handling cruises well, if that is something that matters to you.

Looks nice and clean May be good for companies using Sabre

Doesn’t always work Doesn’t include useful info

Kayak myTrips

Kayak auto imported everything perfectly, even the tricky ones.  It handled the multiple traveller/confirmation numbers almost as well as TripIt though in a slightly different way.  I think for this very tricky ticket I like the way TripIt showed it, but for every other flight I’ve put in, Kayak is better.  it correctly got all of the ticket numbers, confirmation numbers, and loyalty numbers.  Unfortunately, Kayak doesn’t include information about terminal and gate numbers or aircraft type.  However, it does show the layover time well and include links to maps of the terminals, which was unique.  It correctly found all of the information about the hotels such as room type, number of guests, confirmation number but didn’t include the loyalty number.  Kayak is almost as pretty as TripCase but is just as clean and doesn’t include ads.  It works well for adding in unique events like tours and scuba trips.  It also has good collaboration tools to allow others to view or edit the trip.

Very clean and readable No ads Worked best for importing Good collaboration tools Terminal Maps

Doesn’t give hotel loyalty numbers Doesn’t show terminal or gate info Doesn’t have aircraft type

Conclusion:

From now on, I’ll be using Kayak.  Kayak and TripIt were the only ones that have the features I want and work all the time.  Of those, Kayak looks a lot better and I like the way it organizes data better.  I wish it included a couple more things but I can live without those in exchange for working all the time.

What do you think?  Do you have a favorite not listed here or think I missed the mark completely?  Leave a comment below and call me out on it, I’m always looking for the best products.

which one gives you flight alerts?

Worldmate does that if you buy up to the paid version, less than $10 a year. It also imports all the confirmation numbers et all, I have no idea what she was looking at. The mobile app is simple, has no ads and is easy to use. The flight alerts not only let you know if a flight is early or late (also allow you to check in mobile from your phone in about 3 clicks) but also about changes in terminal and gate. Its the only mobile travel companion I will use.

TripIt handles alerts very well. I’ve gotten alerts from them before I get one from the airline! I find it to be an amazing tool. The ordering complaint is silly. It orders based on times in the confirmation… If the confirmation says noon checkin, that’s what time TripIt puts your checkin. Granted, it could apply some AI and realize you’re in the air at that time, but I bet they don’t want to change what you’ve just sent them, preferring to let you as the user decide what’s wrong with the itinerary. Long time TripIt user, still love it.

I also loved Worldmate. Unfortunately it has now been discontinued from 1 January 2017.

One huge feature not mentioned… Tripcase is releasing a smartwatch ap companion. pretty cool- should come out this week. By total contrast -TripIt wont work AT ALL if you HAVE a smartwatch. well at least not a Samsung gear watch. Lots of forum complaints to TripIt which they just ignore. Having a so a Samsung smart watch requires you to have the gear manager on your phone- which some watch settings are controlled through. For some reason the TripIt ap wont stay open with the gear manager installed. The solution was to install the TripIt ap from the Samsung store instead of the full android TripIt ap from google play store- but the samsung ap is slower and missing features and even looks a bit uglier- Tripcase on the other hand is going to embrace gear watches and have an ap for the S2.

Great article and very helpful. Would it be possible to ask and suggest a few things in private?

Sure, just email me: mwwalk [at] gmail [.com].

I will say that the Tripit app is my favorite for ease of use. I did not like the way that it looked ugly. But they have just revamped it. I do wish that they had the smart watch app, but if you have one, the notifications show up on the watch as well. With the new look that shows EVERYTHING, I think its the best unit so far.

I have used Worldmate for many trips and found it very easy to deal with, but it has now been discontinued. The Worldmate website was deactivated in January 2017, and the app will be deactivated sometime between March and September 2017.

Does anyone knows how can I transfer all my trip info to any other app?

Sorry from worldmate to any other app

Is there an app or website that offers the capability to transfer info from Worldmate to their system, or that can import World mate data? If not which system operates/offers the same functionality as Worldmate?

I don’t know why but your update notice is dated February 2017 – which has not yet come to pass. I think you mean 2016. Thanks for the articles, it is helpful in my search for a better alternative to TripIt.

No discussion about privacy? Stolen identity? I’m more than a little reluctant to send my detailed travel receipts & bookings to, well, ANY service.

I am from Colombia, South America, and as an international traveler I am always booking through different sites and airlines in several languages. Most of the times I don’t do my bookings, several people from different countries do them for me. Having said this, I strongly recomend using TripCase, because with TripIt it is imposible to get your trip imported if you don’t have the Original Vendor E-mail in English. Tripit was the first aplication I used and it works fine, but again, it is imposible to import some trips. Now I moved to TripCase and it’s perfec, it has worked with a lot of little airlines and agencies in different countries and languages. Also I would not recomend anybody to rely on the Gates, and updates from any application, since many times the airlines make sudden changes and even the airport screens are showing different stuff. Always double check any information you get from the apps.

TripIt vs TripCase: Which is Better? [2024]

TripIt vs TripCase: Although the idea of vacation can really excite you, when it comes to scheduling and organizing, travel planning can be really exhausting.

However, with the apps like TripIt and TripCase, you’ll get a complete itinerary with just a few taps. So, both TripIt and TripCase are popular travel itinerary management apps that help you organize your itineraries all in one place.

But which is the better travel planning app between them that helps you organize your itinerary? If you want to know the answer to this question, keep on reading the TripIt vs TripCase comparison where you’ll know everything about these apps.

TripIt vs TripCase: Overview

TripIt is one of the world’s highest-rated travel management platforms for trips and itinerary organization that lets you keep track of all your travel plans in one place.

You can forward all your books, including hotel, flights, rental car, and other travel services to TripIt so that it’ll automatically add them to your comprehensive itinerary. Thus, easily synch all travel plans to your calendar or simply share them with anyone you want.

And one of the main advantages of TripIt is that it is partnered with a large range of travel providers, such as hotels, travel agencies, airlines, and car rental companies.

Furthermore, it makes it easier for you to access and handle your travel plans by making sure that all the information related to travel is stored in one place.

TripCase is a travel management company that allows you to organize all your trip details and travel plans into one simplified itinerary.

Like TripIt, you can forward all your confirmation emails for hotels, flights, car rentals, and other reservations to TripCase, it’ll automatically create an itinerary for you.

And you also can manually add details about our trip, including notes, activities, and contact details of your travel company.

One of the top features of TripCase is that it provides real-time gate changes, delays, flight updates, and other crucial information, thus helping you to stay informed and prepared for your trip.

How Do They Work?

Get started with TripIt by downloading the TripIt app on your device and setting up an account. Then, tap start itinerary and add your travel start and end dates, destination city, trip name, and any description if you want.

Once it is done, click on add trip. It’ll also show predicted weather conditions to help plan what to pack and choose activities accordingly.

Then you can edit it, share it with other people and even sync it with your calendar. However, if other people want to view your trips, they must have a TripIt account.

Like TripIt, download the TripCase app and sign up for an account. Then, select add a new trip or manage trips that are already in the app.

If you have booked your trip directly with a hotel, airline, or any travel site, you’ll need to forward your confirmation email to get an itinerary.

However, if you have booked your trip with any affiliated or partnered agency, they automatically import your trip details to your account.

Then, you can track all your travel details and even get information about booking ground transportation, and flight delays, and get suggestions on nearby activities.

TripIt vs TripCase: Comparison & Differences

Both TripIt and TripCase offer similar features like the ability to forward confirmation emails to create itineraries, ability to share itineraries with others, and real-time flight alerts.

But TripCase offers more options for customization like the ability to add notes and photos to individual items on the itinerary.

Trip Planning

While TripIt primarily focuses on handling your existing travel plans, TripCase offers more trip planning features like car rental and hotel bookings and even the capability to search for things to do at your destination.

Flight Information

Since TripIt has good integration with airlines, it typically gives more detailed flight information like seat assignments and gate numbers.

Nonetheless, TripCase also has a more detailed flight status feature with real-time updates on cancellations, delays, and gate changes.

Itinerary Sharing

Both TripIt and TripCase work the same, so all you need to do to generate your itinerary from TripIt or TripCase is to forward all your bookings to them.

So, once you are done booking your hotel, flight, rental, and other tickets and reservations, simply forward the confirmation email to [email protected] or [email protected].

Then, they’ll immediately create or add the reservation to your own itinerary. And you can also set up their auto-import email services so that TripIt can automatically scan your emails for any tickets or reservations.

Furthermore, both services let you share your itinerary with friends and family. However, TripIt’s sharing options are more limited compared to TripCase as it offers more customization options.

User Interface

Though both platforms have a clean and intuitive interface and use similar card-based designs for displaying trip information, the level of detail and the visual style vary.

TripCase has a slightly more modern look which has a visual and interactive interface. Whereas TripIt has a simple interface that offers a straightforward experience.

TripCase features a timeline view that displays a chronological view of your trip with complete maps and photos. Also, it provides more detailed information and even lets you choose from various color schemes.

Final Words

Overall, both TripIt and TripCase are amazing travel management apps that help you organize your travel itineraries in one place.

But to decide which is better, TripIt or TripCase for organizing your itineraries, it entirely depends on your personal preferences and which features are more important to you.

Is TripIt the same as TripCase?

Both TripIt and TripCase are itinerary management apps that offer a similar service, but they differ in many ways as listed above.

Is it safe to use TripIt?

Yes, all the information you provide is stored in high security to protect your data.

Is there a free version of TripIt?

Yes. TripIt offers a free version but offers only limited features. Its premium version – TripIt Pro costs $49 a year.

One key difference between the platforms is that TripCase is completely free, whereas TripIt offers both free and paid options. However, many of the advanced features are only available with TripIt Pro.

  14. Do you prefer Trip It or Tripcase for organizing your itineraries?

That is definitely true, but it aggregates 80% of your stuff with 0 effort on your part. For me, that's good enough. I use Tripit - it works quite well - even with complicated itineraries - and it's easy to share itineraries with others. Have been using it for years and have not seen a need for the Pro paid option.

  16. TripIt v. TripCase v. Anything else?

But there are problems. Definitely, my biggest beef is the on-screen look of TripIt, and here, TripCase is far more current and usable. I'm having a problem with auto-merge (it's basically non-existent) but I can manually deal with that if need be. TripIt clearly beats TripCase on this point.
