BOISE (Feb. 13, 2023) - Guitarist, multi-platinum selling singer-songwriter, band leader, Rock & Roll Hall of Fame inductee, and Songwriters Hall of Fame electee Steve Mille r is beyond excited to finally get back on the road. Steve Miller Band will perform at Ford Idaho Center Amphitheater in Boise on Saturday, Sept. 9, 2023. Tickets go on sale Friday, Feb. 17 at 10 a.m. MT HERE.
Putting his pandemic time to great use, Miller dug deep into his archives and found an unreleased, full-length concert recording and released it. Steve Miller Band Live! Breaking Ground: August 3, 1977 came out in spring 2021 and was accompanied by a live concert video featuring the full performance that is available now to stream on The Coda Collection on Amazon Prime Video.
2020 was shaping up to be another historic year for Miller when Covid sadly forced him to cancel all of his plans. While 2021 saw the release of the Breaking Ground album and video, the process of going through his vaults only intensified his desire to perform for his fans around the world in person once again. These 2023 shows are going to be very special as a result.
Steve Miller was a mainstay of the San Francisco music scene that upended American culture in the late '60s. With albums like Children of the Future, Sailor and Brave New World, Miller perfected a psychedelic blues sound that drew on the deepest sources of American roots music and simultaneously articulated a compelling vision of what music - and society - could be in the years to come.
Then, in the '70s, Miller crafted a brand of rock 'n' roll music that was polished, exciting and irresistible, and that has dominated radio through today. Hit followed hit in an endless flow: "The Joker," "Livin' in the USA," "Take the Money and Run," "Rock'n Me," "Fly Like an Eagle," "Jet Airliner," "Jungle Love," and "Abracadabra," among them.

Setlist & Video: Primus Open ‘A Tribute To Kings’ Tour in Idaho
Primus kicked off their Rush-inspired “A Tribute To Kings” tour on Aug. 10 in Idaho, playing a set of Primus favorites, followed by the 1977 epic A Tribute To Kings in its entirety.
“Those Damned Blue-Collar Tweekers” opened the outing, and the band continued on with other originals like “Mr. Knowitall,” “Groundhog’s Day,” “Fisticuffs,” “Seas of Cheese,” “Frizzle Fry” and fan favorite “My Name Is Mud,” before ending with “Over the Electric Grapevine.”
Then came the Rush set, with the title track, “A Farewell to Kings,” giving way to “Xanadu” and the hit “Closer to the Heart.”
“Are you ready, Ler?” Claypool asked the guitarist before launching into the delicate intro to “Cinderella Man.”
Then, things got conceptual with the space-age “Madrigal,” and the closing “Cygnus X-1.”
The encore consisted of Primus cuts once again – namely “Wynona’s Big Brown Beaver” and “Southbound Pachyderm.”

Today, rock legend HEART announced the postponement of all remaining shows on their headlining Royal Flush Tour and Journey/Def Leppard Stadium Tour due to Ann Wilson’s recent health concerns. In a public statement, Ann says:
Dear friends,
I underwent an operation to remove something that, as it turns out, was cancerous. The operation was successful & I'm feeling great but my doctors are now advising me to undergo a course of preventive chemotherapy & I've decided to do it.
And so my doctors are instructing me to take the rest of the year away from the stage in order to fully recover.
To the ticket buyers, I really do wish we could do these gigs. Please know that I absolutely plan to be back on stage in 2025. My team is getting those details sorted & we'll let you know the plan as soon as we can.
Thank you all for the support.
This is merely a pause.
I've much more to sing.
Respectfully, this is the last public statement l'd like to make on the matter.

Bruce Springsteen talks 'Road Diary' and being a band boss: 'You're not alone'
TORONTO – Bruce Springsteen sums up his new documentary succinctly: “That's how we make the sausage.”
The New Jersey rock music legend premiered “Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band” (streaming Oct. 25 on Hulu) at Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday night. Director Thom Zimny’s film – his 14th with Springsteen in 24 years, in addition to 40 music videos – follows the group’s 2023 to 2024 world tour, going back on the road for the first time in six years, and shows “The Boss” being a boss.
Through Springsteen’s narration and rehearsal footage, it covers everything from how he runs band practice to his crafting of a set list that plays the hits but also tells a story about age and mortality – for example, including his recent song “Last Man Standing” (from 2020’s “Letter to You”) about Springsteen being the last member of his first band still alive.

Patti Scialfa reveals multiple myeloma diagnosis in Bruce Springsteen's 'Road Diary' documentary
"Road Diary" also reveals that Springsteen's wife and bandmate Patti Scialfa was diagnosed in 2018 with multiple myeloma , and because of the rare form of blood cancer, her "new normal" is only playing a few songs at a show every so often. During a scene in which they duet on "Fire" and sing in a close embrace, she says via voiceover that performing with Springsteen offers "a side of our relationship that you usually don't get to see."
Need a break? Play the USA TODAY Daily Crossword Puzzle.
“We have the only job in the world where the people you went to high school with, at 75, you're still with those people,” Springsteen said in a post-screening Q&A about his longtime partnerships with bandmates. “The same people that you were with at 18, at 19, 50, 60 years later, you're still with those people. You live your life with them, you see them grow up. You see them get married, you see them get divorced. You see them go to jail, you see them get out of jail. You see them renege on their child payments, you see them pay up. You see them get older, you see their hair go gray, and you're in the room when they die.”
For producer Jon Landau, who’s worked with Springsteen for 50 years, the movie showcases an innate quality about the man and his band that's kept them so vital for so long: “To me, what’s always attracted me to Bruce, going back to when I was a critic in the ‘70s, was his incredible vision, even in its earliest stages – that there was a clarity of purpose behind every song, every record, every detail.”
“Letter to You” and the current world tour covered in “Road Diary” marked a return to band mode for Springsteen after his New York solo residency “Springsteen on Broadway” and his 2019 album/film project “Western Stars.”
“I get completely committed to everything that I do. But the band is the band,” Springsteem said. “We've been good a long time. All those nights out on stage where you are risking yourself – because that is what you're doing, you are coming out, you are talking to people about the things that matter the most to you. You are leaving yourself wide open – you're not alone.”
“That only happens to a few bands,” he added. “Bands break up, that's the natural order of things. The Kinks, The Who. They can't even get two guys to stay together. Simon hates Garfunkel. Sam hates Dave. The Everly Brothers hated one another. You can't get two people to stay together, what are your odds? They're low.”
But the E Street Band has done it right, with what Springsteen called “a benevolent dictatorship.”
“We have this enormous collective where everyone has their role and a chance to contribute and own their place in the band,” Springsteen said. “We don't quite live in a world where everybody gets to feel that way about their jobs or the people that we work with. But I sincerely wish that we did because it's an experience like none I've ever had in my life.
"If I went tomorrow, it's OK. What a (expletive) ride.”

Another member of the classic rock band Kansas is leaving the group’s 50th anniversary tour.
Kansas announced over the weekend that bassist and co-lead vocalist Billy Greer “has concluded his journey” after nearly 40 years with the band. He joined Kansas in 1985 and had been “an unwavering presence,” appearing on seven studio albums and playing more than 2,300 live concerts with the group.
“He stood shoulder to shoulder with us through both the ups and the downs. His voice, both singing and emceeing, has been a constant with us on stage. The entire Kansas family will miss him,” said original Kansas guitarist Richard Williams in a statement .
“For 39 years, Billy has been a loyal, dedicated, and immensely talented bandmate. He’s travelled around the world with us including USO tours,” added Phil Ehart, the original drummer for Kansas.
Ehart left the band’s live tour earlier this year after suffering a heart attack, but remains with Kansas as its manager.
Greer, who also served as emcee for Kansas concerts over the last 18 years, did not elaborate on a reason for his departure. Outside of the band, he was also lead vocalist and bassist for the side project Native Window.
“I consider myself lucky. There have been a couple of incarnations along the way, but we’ve managed to push through the rough times,” Greer told 100% Rock Magazine of his work with Kansas. “I was part of those rough times. In the ‘90s when grunge became the flavor of the month, that set us on a course for doom.”
“We kept going. Those were some dark times. Playing small clubs from Tuesday through Thursday to get to the good gigs on the weekends... It was a rough go for a lot of years, but we slowly made our way back.”
Kansas said Greer’s departure will not impact any upcoming concerts on their tour. A new bassist will be announced soon.
“The band Kansas and its entire organization extend heartfelt gratitude to Billy for his decades of exceptional musicianship,” a group statement said.
Kansas, named after their home state, released its first album in 1974 and became one of the most popular rock bands of the ‘70s and ‘80s with songs like “Carry On Wayward Son,” “Dust in the Wind” and “Point of Know Return.” Ehart and Williams are the only two original members still with the band.

Patti Scialfa, musician and wife of Bruce Springsteen, reveals multiple myeloma diagnosis
Scialfa has been largely absent from Springsteen and the E Street Band's 2023-2024 tour.
Maureen Lee Lenker is a senior writer at Entertainment Weekly with over seven years of experience in the entertainment industry. An award-winning journalist, she's written for Turner Classic Movies, Ms. Magazine , The Hollywood Reporter , and more. She's worked at EW for six years covering film, TV, theater, music, and books. The author of EW's quarterly romance review column, "Hot Stuff," Maureen holds Master's degrees from both the University of Southern California and the University of Oxford. Her debut novel, It Happened One Fight , is now available. Follow her for all things related to classic Hollywood, musicals, the romance genre, and Bruce Springsteen.
Patti Scialfa, musician and wife of Bruce Springsteen , has been conspicuously absent from much of the E Street Band's latest tour — and now, she has revealed why.
In new documentary, Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, which premiered at the Toronto International Film Festival on Sunday night, Scialfa revealed that she was diagnosed with early stage multiple myeloma in 2018 (during the run of Springsteen on Broadway ) .
While she is doing well, the disease impacts her immune system. "I have to be careful where I go and what I do," she said in the film. "That's my new normal right now."
Scialfa also explained that this is why her presence on the 2023-2024 tour with Springsteen and the band has been significantly diminished. She makes appearances when she can, generally only joining for a few songs, to limit her exposure.
Previously, Scialfa told the Asbury Park Press that she had stepped back from the tour to focus on recording a solo album and to spend time with her and Springsteen's first grandchild. "I didn’t feel as needed in a way because there were a lot of musicians on stage,” she said. “I did the first couple of shows, and as I saw how it was all rolling, I thought, 'This is good. This is completely intact. There’s not much room for me to add anything special.' And the main thing was I have a record that I couldn’t have finished when Bruce was home because he’s in the studio all the time. So I took that opportunity to do my record."
But now, Scialfa said in the documentary that her absence is more about mitigating risk factors and protecting her health. Springsteen has had his own health struggles during this tour. He postponed all of his tour dates from September to December 2023 while he was recovering from peptic ulcer disease. He also had to cancel additional dates in Europe this past summer due to "vocal issues" and doctor's orders.

Scialfa joined the E Street Band in 1984, coming on board as a back-up vocalist only a few days before the start of the Born in the USA tour. She and Springsteen started living together in the late 1980s before they married in 1991.
She has been a part of almost every major Springsteen tour since, taking eleven years off to focus on their family before returning in 2004. She was featured in two numbers in Springsteen on Broadway. Scialfa has also released three solo albums — Rumble Doll, 23rd Street Lullaby, and Play It as It Lays.
Road Diary: Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band hits Hulu and Disney+ on Oct. 25.
