About kings of leon.

Kings of Leon is an American rock band that formed in Nashville, Tennessee, in 1999. The band is composed of brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared Followill with their cousin Matthew Followill.

The band's early music was a blend of Southern rock and garage rock with blues influences, but it has gradually evolved throughout the years to include a variety of genres and a more alternative, arena rock sound. Kings of Leon achieved initial success in the United Kingdom with nine Top 40 singles, two BRIT Awards in 2008, and all three of the band's albums at the time peaked in the top five of the UK Albums Chart. Their third album, Because of the Times, also reached the number one spot.

After the release of Only by the Night in September 2008, the band achieved chart success in the United States. The singles "Sex on Fire", "Use Somebody", and "Notion" all peaked at number one on the Hot Modern Rock Tracks chart. The album was their first Platinum-selling album in the United States, and was also the best-selling album of 2008 in Australia, being certified platinum nine times. The band's fifth album, Come Around Sundown, was released on October 18, 2010. Their sixth album, Mechanical Bull, was released on September 24, 2013. The seventh studio album, Walls, was released on October 14, 2016.[1] Their eighth studio album, When You See Yourself, was released on March 5, 2021. The group has 12 Grammy Award nominations, including 4 wins.

Kings of Leon in Wrexham 2023: Gate times, tickets, parking, support and road closures

The US rockers are sure to have The Racecourse bouncing this Bank Holiday weekend

Kings of Leon are hosting not one but two sell-out concerts in North Wales this weekend. The US multi-award winning rock group will be tearing up Wrexham's Racecourse home like a Paul Mullin promotion winning thunderbolt.

They will be playing hits like Sex on Fire to their thousands of fans on Saturday and Sunday night, May 27 and 28. The Multi BRIT and Grammy award winning band's appearance at the Racecourse will be the first gig at the ground for a number of years.

In the last decade, Wrexham has hosted Welsh band Stereophonics and pop singer

. The announcement was made by Wrexham AFC co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney.

For those with their hands on tickets to the event, we've got all the information you'll need to know below

What time do the doors open?

Both gigs have start times of 5pm. Concertgoers will be able to get through the turnstiles starting at 4pm.

Is there a support act?

The Kings will be supported by two other acts when performing in Wrexham, including local band the Declan Swans will be known by many for their tune 'Always Sunny In Wrexham'. Far From Saints - a brand new band formed by Kelly Jones of the Stereophonics, with Patty Lynn and Dwight Baker from The Wind and The Wave, was announced at a slightly later date as special guests for the shows.

What's on the set list?

The official set list hasn't been released ahead of the shows but will include a variety of hits that we all know and love. The band's last show, in California's San Diego on November 19 last year, gives a flavour of what they might perform:

What are the road closures ahead of the gigs?

Certain roads around the venue will be closed off partially or fully during the course of the gigs. The main areas impacted will be along Crispin Lane and Mold Road, around the Racecourse itself.

The approaches to B&Q Roundabout will be reduced to two lanes from Plas Coch Road to prevent a left turn towards town centre and Central Road will be coned down to one lane, to direct traffic into Regent Street, towards town for the full closure.

A section of the ‘closed’ carriageway on Mold Road will be coned off for Bus/Coach/ drop off. This will be managed by Traffic Management Operatives.

• Mold Road to be One Way – travel out of City toward B&Q roundabout – between 13.00 and 21.45, with all inbound traffic (including residents, Park and Ride and coaches to the event) using alternative routes, either directed or diverted. This will reduce any confusion at B&Q Roundabout and therefore improve traffic flows.
• Park & Ride and any coaches to the event will be directed through town, either via Ruthin Road and be allowed to drop off on the inbound side of Mold Road, then re-join the outbound carriageway. This will be managed by TM Operatives.
• Residents will also have to access the roads opposite the stadium via the Town Centre. Crispin Lane will be closed with resident access from Stansty Road only.

Post-Event:

There will be a full closure of Mold Road and Regent Street (as per the plan) from 21.45 to 23:59 whilst the stadium is emptying, during which time access for residents will be controlled from both ends by Amberon TMO’s. The affected roads include:

• Grosvenor Road, Bradley Road, Regent Street, Stansty Road (under bridge)
• All traffic from Glyndwr University will exit on to Plas Coch Rbt
• All traffic left from Plas Coch School into Stansty Chain Road
• Crispin Lane will be closed at the access to the back of the stadium.

Where can I park?

Park & Ride on both nights of the show, taking the hassle and stress out of finding a parking space in the city centre - and getting stuck on your way home! Spaces are available to pre-book online.

Two car parks are available on Ruthin Road for the event, at the Wrexham Central Estate Office (LL13 7TU) or at Ysgol Clywedog (LL13 7UB). Access will be available from 1.30pm, with the first coach departing for the Racecourse Ground at 1.45pm.

Booking can be made via the Wrexham AFC eTicketing website for just £5 per car and will remain on sale until 9am on Saturday May 27. All places must be pre-booked, with no on-the-day payments available.

What do I need to know if using public transport?

If you are just visiting Wrexham for the concert - and don't drive in - there are options for getting about by bus, train and other public transport. However, be advised that all public services are expected to be extremely busy on the concert evenings.

Are any tickets still available?

At the time of writing (May 23), gigsandtours.com has a small handful of tickets listed for sale over both dates. These are for both pitch standing and seated.

These ticket prices start at £82.50 and go up to £104.05. This includes booking fees and will provide you with an e-ticket.

Inside Kings of Leon's unforgettable performance at Hyde Park - and their setlist revealed

Kings of Leon took the stage at the legendary British Summertime Festival , hosted by American Express, which was held at London's Hyde Park on Sunday. They delivered a performance that was nothing short of electrifying, giving the audience exactly what they were craving for. 

Having watched them at the London O2 in 2022, my expectations were extremely high. But to my joy, the Followill clan - brothers Caleb, Nathan and Jared, along with their cousin Matthew – proved once again why they are a force to be reckoned with in the world of rock music. 

The American band, who last played at BST seven years ago, looked happy to be back headlining the Great Oak Stage and poked jibes that Glastonbury was happening on the same weekend. "But wouldn't you rather be here with us?" lead singer Caleb quipped to the crowd, who responded with enthusiastic cheers.

Nathan even took his position on the drums, wearing an England football shirt - a nod to the team's win against Slovakia just hours prior. "I was hoping we'd have fun tonight," added Caleb. "Didn't have any idea we'd have this much fun."

They are currently on their Can We Please Have Fun World tour which will see the band perform a number of shows across Europe as well as the States. 

Playing their only London date, they delivered a setlist brimming with crowd favourites, including Sex on Fire, Use Somebody, Pyro and Closer  whilst also showcasing songs from their latest offering, including  Mustang  and Split Screen.  The musicians had the crowd singing along in unison, their voices echoing across the grounds. 

Kings of Leon's stage presence was commanding yet understated - no elaborate pyrotechnics or over-the-top theatrics, just four musicians in their element, letting their music speak for itself. They had a vibrant backdrop of waterfalls and volcanoes, bringing an earthy and low-key dimension to the band's 105-minute setlist.

Their interaction with the crowd was genuine and heartfelt, with Caleb expressing his gratitude for the fans' unwavering support over the years. "It's such a joy to be here," said Caleb thoughtfully, clearly overcome by the atmosphere. "We haven't been here for seven years. It's one of my favourite places to be and be a part of."

Kings of Leon's performance at BST Hyde Park was a masterclass in music, a night of pure energy that has left a lasting impression on all who were fortunate enough to be there.

The Vaccines love "evangelical element" of supporting Kings Of Leon

The Vaccines have had "so much fun" as Kings Of Leon's special guests and love the "evangelical element" of their support sets.

The If You Wanna rockers have joined Caleb Followill and on their Can We Please Have Fun tour dates, which included the band's recent date at BST Hyde Park on Sunday (30th June).

Asked if they were looking forward to playing Hyde Park, frontman Justin Young told Radio X's Sunta Templeton at Glastonbury Festival : "I’m from London and it’s quite special to play in the biggest park in your home city, right in the centre of town to however many tens of thousands of people and get to hang out with your friends and watch the headliner and stuff. I always really look forward to those.”

"It’s been great, actually," he added of supporting the Nashville indie giants on their tour in general. "It’s been really fun. I love supporting people, because unlike your own show - a bit like a festival I suppose - you’re not preaching to the converted as much.

"There’s like an evangelical element where you're having to win people over and I think because of their cross-over hits they have this quite mainstream crowd, many of whom don’t know who we are and stuff, so it’s a challenge every night to go out and win people over. I love that."

He added: "In some ways I like it almost more than playing to your own people. It’s maybe not more, but it's just a completely different experience.”

Young also talked about the magic of Glastonbury and what makes UK festivals so different to US ones.

"The festivals in the UK are part of our fabric," mused the frontman. "Whereas I think they’ve had festivals in the States for just as long, I think their popularity or maybe their identity has grown in a different way."

“Glastonbury probably is a bit of an outlier,” the Headphones Baby singer went on. “But I think that this is a sort of debauched utopia, whereas I think American festivals are a bit more sanitised.”

On his best ever Glasto memory, he revealed: "Most of my favourite memories are off stage. I mean it’s such a big event even for artists as music lovers that getting a ticket through performing still just feels like a huge win.

Obviously playing the Pyramid Stage as the sun went down in 2023 was a pretty surreal moment and I remember that year we went on stage with Vampire Weekend and Mumford and Sons and First Aid Kit and closed out the entire festival, so to be able to see what a headliner sees, that was a really special moment, but I think more than anything it’s still a place where half your phonebook comes if they’re lucky to get a ticket and just catching up with old friends and going into the depths of Block9..."

Glastonbury 2024: Stormzy, Spice Girls and Kings of Leon among acts rumoured for secret sets

As Glastonbury Festival enters its fourth day, there are still slots which have not been filled, so fans have been speculating about who might be performing a secret set this year.

In previous years, The Killers, Lady Gaga and Franz Ferdinand have held surprise performances.

Speculation is growing as to who might be added to the 2024 lineup at Worthy Farm .

Indie rockers Kasabian, who headlined on the Pyramid Stage in 2014, confirmed they will be one of the secret shows, following them not originally being announced as part of the festival’s line-up.

There was a “TBA” slot on the Woodsies Stage, formerly the John Peel Stage for 6pm, before the band told fans on social media that “they will see” them in the evening.

British rapper Stormzy is also rumoured to be performing sometime over the festival weekend.

The X account @secretglastoset has suggested he'll turn up somewhere over the weekend, adding there's lots of evidence he's onsite not just as a punter.

Pop star Sam Smith is also rumoured to be making an appearance on Saturday night, with @secretglastoset suggesting his performance could be alongside electronic music duo Disclosure, who are performing on the Other Stage.

Fans of Taylor Swift are hoping she could still make an appearance, despite currently being on her UK Eras Tour.

The pop icon is performing in Dublin on 30 June but fans have been pointing out that a a private jet cold transport her from Ireland to Somerset.

The Killers have also been rumoured to perform a secret set because of the schedule of their tour. The band has already performed at Worthy Farm four times.

The Spice Girls is another favourite to make a surprise appearance at Glastonbury 2024.

Despite bookies predicting the iconic British band will reunite for Glastonbury 2025, fans are hopeful it will happen 12 months earlier, after all five members performed at Victoria Beckham's 50th birthday in April.

Kings of Leon are in the UK for their BST Hyde Park show on 30 June, with some speculating they could also stop off at Worthy Farm.

It has been 20 years since the band first performed at Glastonbury Festival, and they last headlined in 2008.

Fans are hopeful the band will make a quick detour to Somerset for a surprise performance.

From red wall to King's Speech, UK elections have a vocabulary all their own. Here's what to know

LONDON (AP) — United Kingdom elections have a distinct vocabulary that draws on traditions of parliamentary democracy as well as modern political slogans and spin.

As voters go to the polls Thursday to elect a new government, The Associated Press deciphers some key words and phrases:

Luxury coaches rented by the main political parties to whisk politicians and journalists around the country for campaign visits during the five-week campaign. Labour has a red bus emblazoned with the word “change,” while the Conservatives’ blue bus promises a “clear plan, bold action, secure future.” The centrist Liberal Democrats’ yellow bus has taken leader Ed Davey on a headline-grabbing journey that has involved paddleboarding, rollercoaster-riding, Zumba and bungee-jumping.

A swath of seats in southern England, the wealthiest part of the country, where voters traditionally have supported the Conservative Party, whose traditional color is blue. With the Conservatives trailing in the polls, the centrist Liberal Democrats are targeting these affluent, socially liberal voters and hope to snatch some of the seats. See also: Red Wall.

Britain’s departure from the European Union , triggered by a 2016 referendum and completed in 2020, was the country’s most seismic, and divisive, act in decades. Yet it has featured little in the election campaign. The Conservatives don’t want to acknowledge that many of the promised economic benefits haven't materialized. Labour doesn’t want to reopen old wounds or alienate Brexit-backing voters. So Brexit has become something of a political Voldemort — that which mustn't be named.

A rarity in the United Kingdom, a coalition government is one in which two or more political parties divide up ministerial posts, compromise on policies and agree to govern in concert. The Conservative-Liberal Democrat coalition of 2010-2015 was Britain’s first since World War II.

Used to describe an electoral system in which the candidate with the highest number of votes in each district wins, even if that person doesn't gain a majority of votes cast. The system tends to favor the two big parties, Conservatives and Labour, which historically have won a majority of seats in Parliament, while taking well under half the votes.

The lower house of Parliament has 650 seats, each representing a district of the U.K. The leader of the party with enough seats to command a majority — either alone or in coalition — becomes prime minister and leads the government.

The unelected upper house of Parliament scrutinizes legislation passed by the Commons. It's made up of peers appointed for life by political parties, along with a smattering of judges, bishops and hereditary nobles. Its ballooning size and undemocratic nature are often criticized but reform has proved difficult.

An outcome in which no single party holds a majority of seats in the House of Commons. In that case, parties will try to forge agreements that will assemble a working majority, enabling a government to pass laws. If opinion polls giving Labour a double-digit lead are borne out on polling day, this is an unlikely result.

An annual speech — read by the monarch at the ceremonial State Opening of Parliament — that is written by the government and outlines its legislative program. This year’s speech will be delivered by King Charles III on July 17, and will lay out the plans of either Labour leader Keir Starmer or Conservative leader Rishi Sunak .

A majority government is formed by a party that holds more than half the seats in the House of Commons. Minority government occurs when a party that doesn't have a majority of seats governs alone, relying on support from smaller parties on a vote-by-vote basis. Minority governments tend to be short-lived — the most recent lasted from 2017 to 2019.

Constituencies won by a small margin and thus more likely to switch hands in an election. The opposite is a safe seat.

A string of seats in England’s Midlands and north once dominated by mining, steelmaking and other heavy industries that traditionally voted Labour, whose traditional color is red. After years of high unemployment and social decay, many of these voters switched to the Conservatives under Boris Johnson. Labour hopes to regain many of these seats Thursday.

An American term with no clear meaning in Britain, introduced into the U.K. election by the Conservatives in an attempt to shore up the party’s vote by warning that Labour could get untrammeled power if it wins too many seats in Parliament.

A fixture of the BBC’s election night coverage for decades, a pendulum-style representation of the percentage of voters who have shifted from one party to another, used to predict the outcome in parliamentary seats. Once an actual prop, it’s now delivered through digital graphics.

Describes the practice of voters backing a party they wouldn't usually support in order to defeat another candidate. There has been speculation this election could see high levels of tactical voting by centrist and left-leaning electors to oust Conservatives.

"Well, you didn't think we were gonna let you down, did you?"

So said Jarvis Cocker as he addressed the enormous crowd at Glastonbury 's Park stage in 2011; thousands and thousands of people stood in front of him to see perhaps the worst-kept secret in the festival's history, and one of its greatest live music experiences.

The speculation that the then newly reformed Pulp would play the surprise set that day - after Radiohead the previous day, no less - had grown so intense that latecomers reportedly had to be turned away, such was demand.

Beyonce, Coldplay and U2 headlined that year, but like many squashed in the Park Stage audience, squelching in the mud, it was the magic of singing along to Do You Remember The First Time?, Something Changed, and Common People I remember above everything.

Over the years, artists including The Killers, The Libertines, Lady Gaga, Foals and Franz Ferdinand have also popped up "unannounced" at Glastonbury. Last year, an act supposedly called The Churnups, conspicuous by their late-evening Pyramid Stage slot despite being an unknown entity, turned out to be The Foo Fighters .

The festival is famous for its secret sets, surprise guests and big names appearing in unexpected places, so while Dua Lipa, Coldplay and SZA headline this year, it is the TBA slots that may well provide some of the most memorable moments.

One person in the know is the founder of @secretglasto, a Twitter account which launched 10 years ago and now has almost 80,000 followers and a small team of six keeping the updates going. They have no official ties to the festival, but over the years have cultivated their sources - from people working on stages to sometimes even acts themselves - so they are "90% confident" about whatever they hint at.

"There's also people that have been good at [revealing] what acts are playing before the line-up comes out," says the Secret Glasto founder (we'll call them SG). "So you can take their word a lot more seriously because they have some way of knowing what's going on - even if you don't know the specifics as to how they get that information, you can see the track record."

When it comes to favourite secret sets, SG names Drenge and Wolf Alice, but says it's "hard to look past The Killers", who turned up in 2017 - 10 years after headlining for the first time, and two years before returning to headline again.

"The Killers in a tent, that's something you feel it would only ever happen at Glastonbury. Compared to most of our secret set rumours we heard that one very late and personally I was very nervous by it, but also we had no other names in the frame. The relief when Frank Carter mentioned it was The Killers after him was palpable!

"So many people I have met since that show have been really thankful because they wouldn't have gone [without the Secret Glasto tip] because a lot of them actually liked acts playing elsewhere at the time... why would you go to a secret set you don't know if you've got eight out of 10 options elsewhere? The Killers to everyone was a 10 out of 10 option."

With the potential for people to miss other brilliant acts based on the hints of their anonymous account, SG says they do feel a sense of responsibility, especially as the number of followers has grown.

"Quite a lot of the time for these secret sets, to get a good spot you're [at the stage] for an entire set before. And you're missing other things that you would love to see. So it is a big responsibility to make sure that we're right about our info. There have been some secrets we just haven't tweeted because we didn't know who it was."

For many Glastonbury-goers, the account has become a go-to place for reliable hints about the unnanounced acts set to play. There are a few TBA slots on the line-up this year - the biggest of which is set for the Woodsies Stage at 6pm on Saturday.

The bookies' favourities include Liam Gallagher, fresh from his Definitely Maybe anniversary tour dates; Kasabian, who would mark 10 years since they headlined in 2014; and Pulp, as Cocker will already be on site to perform in the small Stonebridge Bar with Hot Chip's Alexis Taylor on the Friday. Other names bandied about include Harry Styles, Green Day, Charli XCX and, um, Taylor Swift, who's set to perform her Eras tour shows in Dublin on the Friday, Saturday and Sunday night, so seems pretty unlikely.

SG is not revealing anything yet, but says Pulp, Kings Of Leon, Kasabian and Charli XCX are among the main acts rumoured.

As well as the Woodsies TBA, SG also says there will be some other "big surprises around the site doing some very small slots".

However, they won't mention where. "I don't even want to mention the stages because I know how skittish some of those areas can be. I know in 2022, there was going to be a stage headliner from one of the recent years playing a very small slot that got canned quite last minute. So yeah, quite hesitant to to reveal more than that, but we have heard of some very interesting things."

After 10 years of revealing Glastonbury's secrets, what has SG learned about why the surprise acts have become such a special part of the festival?

"I think it's just the fact all these acts have decided the money [doesn't matter], and their egos don't need placating," says SG. "You've got some acts who would just be like, if we're not a headliner, no matter what the money is, we would not play a certain slot."

Glastonbury's secret acts are there purely to put on something fun for the fans, SG continues. "It creates such a different atmosphere. A lot of the secret sets are bands that feel like Glastonbury helped their careers in some way, and it's their way of sort of giving back.

"Unlike other British festivals, I think Glastonbury cultivates more of a 'we go every year, regardless' mentality. So these acts can feel like the people that supported them at, say, a previous slot that went really well for them will still be there, or at least a sizeable number of them will still be there, to enjoy the secret set they do down the line."

Minaj became the first woman to score 100 Billboard Hot 100 Hits with 133 total entries to date, the most among female hip-hop acts. Her seminal Super Bass surpassed one billion YouTube views, entering rarefied air alongside acts such as Anaconda . Her debut, Pink Friday, in 2010 sold more than 375,000 copies in its first week, and everything turned pink once again with the 2023 release of Pink Friday 2.

The concert entrance, via Hogan’s Gate, is about a 15-minute walk from Malahide Dart station – the organisers recommend public transport, given the likely congestion and parking problems (clampers and tow trucks will be operating) for anybody who drives to the concert. Make sure to plan and book your return travel in advance – it’s a long walk back to the city.

Dart, train and bus: The Dart will be running services to and from Malahide Dart station. There will be a direct bus service to Custom House Quay, Dublin 1, after the event from the Dublin Road, offered as a single or return service. Concert Express is operating a single-journey bus service into Dublin city centre following the event. There will also be a return service to Ratoath that serves Ashbourne and Swords. You can pre-book and find more information at concertexpress.ie .

By car: There is limited car parking available at Malahide Castle. To avoid disappointment, concertgoers are strongly advised to book parking as soon as possible through the Evntz app.

Illegal parking in areas surrounding Malahide Castle and in local estates will be subject to clamping or being towed.

• Driving from the south: Take the M50, leave the motorway at junction 3 (signposted M1 Belfast/Airport), continuing on to the R139. At the roundabout take the second exit, continuing on the R139 for 2.6km. Turn left on to Malahide Road/R107. Continue for 4.2km, then take a right on to Back Road. Follow the signs for the car parks, which will be on your left.
• From the north: Take the M1, leave the motorway at junction 4 (signposted R132 Swords/Malahide/Donabate). Keep right, merging on to the R132. At the roundabout take the second exit, keeping on the R132. At the next roundabout take the second exit, staying on R132. Take a slight left, merging on to the Swords Road/R106 and continue for 2.9km. Turn right on to Dublin Road/R107, continue for 700m and then turn left on to Back Road. Follow the signs for the car parks, which will be on your left.

What’s the story with security?

Under-16s must be accompanied by an adult over 25; bring your passport, Garda age card or driving licence as evidence of your date of birth.

Allow time for security checks on the way in. Bags larger than A4 size will not be permitted and all bags may be searched, and this can be time-consuming so consider going bagless for easier entry. There will be no cloakroom or storage facilities. No umbrellas, alcohol, garden furniture, selfie sticks, flares, glasses or cans, among other items, will be allowed into the event.

There will be a strict no-alcohol policy on all transport and private buses travelling to the venue.

It is also important to note that the event may feature strobe lighting, lasers and pyrotechnics.

Can I take photographs at the concert?

Yes, but only with a smartphone or small camera. Professional cameras with a detachable lens and any other recording equipment are banned.

What’s the weather forecast?

At the time of writing, Saturday is giving a mixed bag weather-wise, with temperatures between 10 and 16 degrees, but rain expected in the afternoon/evening time. However, the sun is expected to peek out from behind the clouds for a while.

As this is an outdoor event though, dress appropriately and be prepared for inclement weather, but remember – no umbrellas.
