Pga tour to live stream every shot from the players championship.

The PGA Tour is expanding its live video coverage of The Players Championship as far as it can go – every shot by every player in every round.

In a first for golf, and most likely the first step toward video access to every player at every tournament, The Players Championship will offer live streaming of all 144 players in the field.

Coverage will be available to PGA Tour Live subscribers on NBC Sports Gold or Amazon’s Prime Video channels.

''Our vision is to bring every shot in every PGA Tour golf tournament live and on-demand to our fans,’' said Rick Anderson, the chief media officer for the PGA Tour. ''And this is the first step to making that happen.’'

The ambitious production will require about 120 cameras – some stationary, some hand-held and others part of the NBC Sports Group broadcast – to show shots that for the opening two rounds start about 7:40 a.m. and end some 12 hours later.

Augusta National had video coverage of every shot from every player at the Masters this year, though it was available through a catalog of players chosen off its website. The difference at The Players is that every shot will be accessible live.

It’s up to the subscribers to choose whom they want to see.

PGA Tour Live for the last few years has had featured groups in the morning and afternoon that have live streaming, often the biggest names in the field that have consecutive tee times to make it easy for cameras to get to them.

That was expanded this season, with all domestic events in the fall having featured pairings for live streaming.

Now it’s every player, even those who might not be seen at all during a tournament.

''You’ll be able to click on any group and watch that group play, and we do that for every golfer in the field,’' said Luis Goicouria, the Tour’s senior vice president of media. ''We’re not viewing it from the perspective of who wants to watch a certain golfer. We’ve known for many years that the future of our sport absolutely involves taking all the content that is happening live and making that available to our audience. In golf, that’s a huge amount of content.’'

The Tour is using its showcase event for the debut of its latest technology, which is not unusual. It’s where the Tour first tried ''Live at 17'’ by showing every shot from every player on the notorious island-green par-3 17th hole.

The announcement Monday comes as the PGA Tour already is talking to media companies about a new television deal. The current arrangement ends after 2021, and consumption habits are changing rapidly.

The Masters has the smallest broadcast window of the four majors and The Players – 18 hours over four days – and it has widened the digital coverage with live video channels from Amen Corner, the 15th and 16th holes, and a featured group, but still not the entire round. Augusta National prefers limited coverage.

The PGA Tour is all about wall-to-wall coverage, and its global distribution now includes a 10-year deal last year with Discovery and its GOLFTV arm.

''Those platforms are becoming more sophistical, more ubiquitous and more content hungry,’' Goicouria said. ''Live sports of any kind is extremely valuable to media companies. ... If we create and get all the content out there, it will find an audience. And there’s any number of ways to leverage this content.’'

Anderson said it could take as many as five years before the Tour can develop a system where live streaming of every player in the field is available and every tournament, though it was not clear if that included the three events it has in Asia.

The starting point is The Players Championship, which is March 12-15.

''We’re doing it to showcase a really major advancement at our flagship event,’' Anderson said. ''The idea is absolutely to get to a point where it makes economic sense. That’s still some time period away. We wanted to demonstrate it at The Players that we can do that. As it becomes more efficient and the costs come down, it’s something we can do every week eventually.’'

How to sign up for PGA Tour Live through Amazon Prime or NBC Sports Gold

PGA Tour Live is a great way for golf fans to get maximum golf coverage from the Tour's weekly schedule.

Launching on Thursday morning most weeks of the PGA Tour season, PGA Tour Live offers early-round streaming of events. They show 18-hole, end-to-end coverage of two featured groups, both in the morning and afternoon session. PGA Tour Live also has coverage of featured holes on each week's tournament host course during the TV broadcast window for each day.

PGA Tour Live offers a broadcast which relies on ShotLink data to illuminate how the best players in the world perform. Customers can also get compact, full-round replays for each golfer featured in the featured groups coverage.

Golf fans can purchase PGA Tour Live through one of two providers for the 2019-2020 season: Amazon or NBC Sports Gold. Regardless of platform, PGA Tour Live is $9.99 per month or $64.99 up front for a full season.

If you choose to sign up for PGA Tour Live through Amazon , you can purchase featured groups coverage. Amazon Prime members get featured holes coverage included with their membership.

If you don't have Amazon prime or don't wish to use the Amazon platform, NBC Sports Gold offers both featured groups and featured holes with their membership.

Amazon Prime Video Adds PGA Tour Live to Channels Offerings

Amazon Prime customers will soon have the option of subscribing to PGA Tour Live through the Prime Video Channels platform. This announcement follows last week’s news that NBA League Pass has been made available in Prime Video as well.

PGA Tour Live, which provides coverage of 28 tournaments each year, will air 870 hours of live featured groups coverage—more than double last year’s 414 hours—that will complement the major broadcast coverage on CBS and NBC.

The service is now available to Prime members for $9.99 per month or $64.99 per season. That’s the same pricing scheme as on NBC Sports Gold , which announced the addition of PGA Tour Live to its OTT offerings starting in 2019.

Amazon has made varied approaches in the sports rights marketplace. Its deals in the U.K. and Ireland have been for exclusive rights (the  English Premier League , ATP World Tour , and U.S. Open ) but in the U.S. they have been more complementary in nature, adding to existing content elsewhere. In addition to NFL Thursday Night Football, Amazon has added PGA Tour Live and NBA League Pass. Whether Amazon will differentiate its PGA Tour Live or NBA League Pass coverage in any way, as it has with the NFL, is unclear. The 2024 PGA Tour is in full bloom, as the top male golfers compete on some of the world's most storied golf courses. Early in the season, Scottie Scheffler,  Xander Schauffele  and  Rory McIlroy  have already established themselves at the  top of the leaderboard , with  Jon Rahm  and  Viktor Hovland  nipping at their cleats.

What network carries the 2024 PGA Tour

The 2024 PGA Tour will broadcast live on Golf Channel, CBS, NBC and ESPN. The PGA Tour will stream on ESPN+ and the live TV streaming services listed below. Not every channel will air every event.

CBS broadcasts an average of 20 weekend events per PGA Tour season, while NBC broadcasts weekend coverage of the PGA Tour for an average of 10 events each season. We come to the final weekend of the PGA Tour 2023. After months and months of cups every single weekend, the Tour Championship marks the last tournament of the year, when it begins on Thursday, August 24.

PGA Tour August 24-27: Tour Championship

Finishing up the PGA Tour for the year is the Tour Championship, which has been ending the run of PGA golf events for 10 years now. 

Hosted at the East Lake Golf Club outside Atlanta, Georgia, this tournament is a who's who of the best golfers of the year, as qualification is arranged via FedEx Cup points.

 You can find the full field list here , but the top 5 players by FedEx Cup ranking are Scottie Scheffler,  Viktor Hovland, Rory McIlroy, John Rahm and Lucas Glover, and all will be in attendance. The higher a player's ranking in the Cup, the better their starting score under par is, giving an advantage (though not an overwhelming one) to better-performing players of the year.

How to watch PGA Tour 2023 in the US

It's hard to move in the US without bumping your foot on a streaming service that'll air the PGA Tour; that is to say, it's playing on various services.

An affordable option to watch online is ESPN Plus , as the $9.99-per-month sports streaming service offers multiple streams of each tournament, with different feeds focusing on holes or golfers, making it a great pick if you don't need a whole live TV service.

Various championships are playing on TV channels: The Golf Channel handles week day coverage of most golf tournaments throughout the year. Weekend coverage for all tournaments are either on NBC or CBS. For the Travelers Championship, it is airing on CBS.

How To Watch the PGA Championship 2024

PGA Tour travels to Dublin, Ohio for the 2024 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club. This year, you can watch all the live coverage on Paramo unt+ ,  ESPN+ , and  Peacock .

During the four-day tournament in Dublin, Scottie Scheffler, Patrick Cantlay, Max Homa, Rory McIlroy, and Justin Thomas are some of the marquee players competing. This year’s purse is the largest in the tournament’s history with the winner walking out with $4 million of the $20 million purse.
