Find out more about flights
- In order to enter Norway, U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the date of reentry.
- We recommend having at least two blank passport pages for entry stamps.
- Beginning in 2025, U.S. and Canadian passport holders must register for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to enter many European countries.
- Passport holders from over 60 visa-exempt countries (including the U.S. and Canada) will need to apply for an ETIAS travel authorization in order to visit 30 European countries. That means that even if you’ve previously traveled to any of these European countries without a visa, starting in 2025, you’ll need to get ETIAS authorization to visit them again. If you’re traveling to multiple countries with this requirement, you only need to complete the form once. All Go Ahead travelers are responsible for obtaining their own ETIAS travel authorization before departure. For more details, please visit our Help Center .
- If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, you must contact each country’s consulate for your specific entry requirements.
- You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by going to goaheadtours.com/myaccount .
- You will walk for at least 2 hours daily across mostly flat terrain, including cobblestone streets, paved roads, and dirt paths.
- Travelers should be healthy enough to participate in all included walks without assistance. Adding optional excursions may increase the total amount of walking on your tour.
- You should feel comfortable managing your own baggage at times (especially on ferries) as well as getting in and out of trains and boats.
- Go Ahead Tours and the Tour Director who accompanies your group are unable to provide special, individual mobility assistance to travelers on tour. The responsibility of the Tour Director is to ensure the group as a whole enjoys a relaxing and informative journey, and he or she cannot be relied upon to provide ongoing, individualized assistance to any one traveler.
- If you have any mobility concerns or physical restrictions, please contact our Customer Experience Team.
- Round-trip flights booked through Go Ahead Tours arrive in Bergen and depart from Oslo. A representative from Go Ahead Tours will meet you at the airport and take you to your hotel. Please remain in the arrival lounge, as the representative might be escorting one of your fellow travelers to the bus at the time of your arrival.
- Transfers to and from the airport at the beginning and end of the tour are included for travelers who purchased their flights through Go Ahead Tours. Travelers who booked their own flights are responsible for securing their own airport transfers.
- Train rides from Bergen to Myrdal, Myrdal to Flam, as well as a flight from Bergen to Oslo are included in the price of your tour.
- All other included transportation on this tour is by private motor coach.
- Please note that our travelers are limited to one checked bag and one carry-on bag per person due to storage limitations on motor coaches and other transfers, which may include train connections or flights.
- Contact your airline(s) for baggage size and weight restrictions for your flights, which may include on-tour flights in addition to your round-trip flights to and from tour. Please note that your included on-tour flights may have more restrictive baggage limits.
- Some airlines may impose additional charges if you choose to check any baggage or exceed baggage size and weight restrictions. Be advised that you are responsible for any baggage fees incurred on all flights.
- Make sure you label your baggage and keep valuables, medication, and documents in your carry-on bag.
- We recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered to accommodate varying temperatures, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
- A sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers is recommended for sightseeing.
- You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance.
- It is preferable not to visit churches or other religious sites with bare legs and shoulders (and entrance may be denied on this basis).
- Please note that there are often baggage restrictions during internal transfers including internal flights, and packing light is recommended.
- At least 60 days prior to departure, check with your doctor or healthcare provider for the latest updates and entry requirements, or visit the Center for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov .
- If you have medication that you take daily, be sure you have enough for each day of the tour as well as any possible delays encountered.
- If you have dietary restrictions and/or food allergies please notify Go Ahead Tours at least 30 days prior to departure by logging in to your account and updating your traveler info. To update this information closer to your departure date, please call our Customer Experience Team.
- You can see the most up-to-date entry requirements for the destination(s) you’ll visit on tour by logging in to your online account and viewing the “Getting Ready” section.
- Norwegian cuisine is varied, offering something for every traveler. Lamb is the most traditional meat, but you’ll also find everything from goose to deer being served in Norway. Seafood lovers will enjoy the country's array of smoked salmon, shellfish, pickled herring, and scrod. Typical meals often incorporate grains, locally-produced cheeses, fresh produce, and wild berries.
- All destinations visited on this tour operate on the European standard 220-240 volts and use Types C or F plugs with two small, round pins.
- We recommend packing a universal adapter, as well as a voltage converter if you plan on using your own hairdryer or other device without a built-in converter.
- The strength of the air conditioning in European hotels is often not as strong or as cool as what you might be used to in the U.S. or Canada. When air conditioning is available, it is usually regulated seasonally and controlled centrally by the hotel.
- Your hotels may provide hairdryers, irons, and other small appliances. However, these amenities cannot be guaranteed.
- Wi-Fi is available in most hotels, though some charges may apply. In more remote locations, internet access may be limited and is not guaranteed.
- There is no Wi-Fi on any of the motor coaches.
- Please contact your mobile service provider for information on roaming charges.
- Norway is one hour ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and six hours ahead of Eastern Time(ET).
- When it’s noon in New York, it's 6pm in Norway.
- You will use the Norwegian krone in Norway.
- Better rates of exchange are usually available overseas, although it’s worth ordering some currency from your local bank to use when you first arrive.
- We strongly advise that you take debit/bank cards and credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash at local banks as needed.
- You can use most debit/credit cards at ATMs on the international networks Cirrus and Plus, but make sure to check with your home bank about withdrawal fees.
- Inform your bank and credit card company of your travel plans so that they won’t confuse your international purchases for fraudulent charges.
- International banks and businesses primarily accept debit and credit cards that work with the EMV chip system. If you do not already have at least one debit or credit card with a chip in it, we strongly recommend requesting one from your bank prior to your tour.
- At the conclusion of your tour, it’s customary to offer your Tour Director and driver a gratuity in local currency or USD. Please keep current exchange rates in mind.
- We recommend tipping the equivalent of $10USD to $12USD per person per day for your Tour Director and the equivalent of $3USD per person per day for your driver.
- If applicable, we also recommend the equivalent of $2USD per local guide.
- Tips can only be paid in cash.

EF Go Ahead Tours Review 2024: Are their guided tours worth it?
EF Go Ahead Tours is a world-leading guided tour company offering a comprehensive travel package with local guides and authentic travel experiences. You've likely heard of them before, but are they really worth it? What do they offer, and how do they stack up to other guided tours?
Guided tours are a great way to travel, make new friends, and enjoy new experiences without the hassle of planning the logistics of the trip.
While guided tour companies boast of convenience, they tend to fall short when it comes to flexibility and customization. Hence, many travelers resort to planning their trips by themselves using helpful apps like Pilot .
But, if you still prefer a guided tour with some level of flexibility, EF Go Ahead Tours is definitely a choice to consider.
EF Go Ahead Tours is one of the world's largest tour companies that host small group tours with unique, authentic experiences. A great benefit of joining an EF Go Ahead Tour is that they allow travelers the benefits of hosting a free private tour with larger groups.
However, are the experiences they're offering for you? What are the pros and cons? Here's our review of EF Go Ahead Tours!
What is EF Go Ahead Tours?
EF Go Ahead Tours is a brand under the EF Tours group that offers both guided and fully customizable tours to destinations worldwide. It caters to young and older travelers, admitting anyone from age six and above (under-age travelers accompanied by adults). The number of travelers in each group is capped at 14-38, and small group tours only admit 10-22 people.
EF Go Ahead Tours aims to provide you with meaningful tours with flexibility and personalization. It also promotes responsible travel by supporting local communities and adopting sustainable practices.
EF Go Ahead Tours mobile app helps you easily manage your bookings and view tour details. It is available for both Android and iOS devices.
What does EF Go Ahead Tours offer?
- Tour directors and local guides: A tour director is assigned for each group to be in charge of all logistics of the trip. They will accompany you throughout, sharing insider knowledge and background information about places you visit.
- Accommodation: 3-4 star hotels that provide comfortable amenities while being located in close proximity to the city.
- Meals: Breakfast and some other meals are included in the pricing. Primarily, they focus on local food and beverage specialties. They will arrange meals meeting your dietary requirements if necessary.
- Transportation: Transport between airport and hotels and other transportation required during the trip are included in the package. While flights are not included, you can get EF Go Ahead Tours to arrange them for you at an additional cost.
How does EF Go Ahead Tours work?
You can browse for tours by Destination or Travel Styles on the website. Travel styles are further categorized as Trip Type, Interests, Seasonal and Special Events , and With Your Own Group .
For example, all the related tours will appear if we pick Adventure Tours under travel styles. You can filter the results further by destination, dates, duration, price, and travel style.
Check out its details, trip highlights, prices, reviews, etc. There's a list of FAQs below related to the trip and other similar tours for you to compare and choose from.
What destinations does EF Go Ahead Tours cover?
EF Go Ahead Tours covers many of the popular destinations worldwide. Here's a list of where EF Go Ahead Tours covers:
- Europe: Ireland, Italy, Greece, Iceland, England, France, and Germany
- The Americas: United States, Canada, Costa Rica, Peru, Ecuador, and Belize
- Africa & Middle East: Egypt, Kenya, Israel, South Africa, Turkey, and United Arab Emirates
- Australia & Asia: Australia, New Zealand, Japan, China, India, and Thailand
Benefits of EF Go Ahead Tours
- Worry-free guarantee
If you cancel the booking within 60 days from the reservation date, you are entitled to a full refund. EF Go Ahead Tours also allows you to change the date of tour or destination up until your final payment day. It helps you book with confidence knowing there's ample time to make changes.
In addition to covering many destinations worldwide, the tour company also offers a diverse range of tours. Group trips for solo travelers provide ample privacy while facilitating socialization. In addition, there are cruise tours, rail tours, food & wine tours, battlefield tours, winter tours, and many more!
- Fewer people
The worrisome factor about large group tours is they can seem too crowded and noisy to have a quality experience. There's also less opportunity to get to know other travelers better. In this case, small group tours offer a more intimate travel experience. Guides can give individual attention and advice easily. Overall, it makes the trip more enjoyable and memorable.
- Flexibility
If you like to travel with friends but don't have the liberty to plan, get EF Go Ahead Tours to plan one for you. You can explain your requirements and get a whole new itinerary done or choose one they offer. Invite your friends and/or family, choose your travel dates, and enjoy. There's also the option of organizing faith-based tours!
Drawbacks of EF Go Ahead Tours
- Increase the number of tours
While there's a variety of tours, different trip options under each category are quite limited compared to other guided tour companies like G Adventures or Contiki . For example, there's only one tour option for India. They can also add more countries to their list of destinations.
- Improve refund and cancellation issues
Customers had faced refund and cancellation issues for scheduled or booked tours during the pandemic. There were complaints of EF Go Ahead Tours not refunding the money as per its cancellation policy. But, it's a common problem that many tour companies dealt with their customers following the Covid outbreak. We hope they are resolved now.
EF Go Ahead Tours vs. EF Ultimate Break
The most significant similarity between EF Go Ahead Tours and EF Ultimate Break is that they are managed by EF Education First Tours. This means that you'll most likely be getting a similar refund, cancellation, and customer service policies between the two tours.
EF Go Ahead Tours identifies itself as the 'older sibling' of EF Ultimate Break. Ultimate Break Tours is geared towards college students and folks aged 18-29, while Go Ahead Tours admits anyone 6 and above. So, the tours offered also tend to be different from each other.
EF Go Ahead Tours has a wide variety of tours catering to all age ranges. It also provides both private and group tours. EF Ultimate Break only offers group tours and are tailored to suit youth's preferences.

Travel tips for Norway trips
There’s really no bad time to take escorted tours of Norway—the country is stunning year-round. However, if you’re hoping for warmer temperatures and a possible glimpse at the renowned midnight sun, summertime is a great season to take Norway group tours. Just keep in mind that it's a popular time to visit, so prices are higher and crowds are bigger.
The off-seasons, spring and fall, are great times to book Norway tour packages if you’re looking for fewer crowds and (hopefully) more sunny days. Snowmelt in the spring means waterfalls and rivers will be at their peak, which makes cruising along the fjords even more spectacular.
The famous northern lights can be seen when Norway’s skies are at their darkest, which is during the winter months. However, the snow, rainfall, and cloudy skies from December through February make this a less-than-ideal time to take Norway group tours. Instead, opt for Norway tour packages that depart in March or from September through October, when the skies are still relatively dark, to seek out the aurora borealis.
Of all the beautiful things to see on trips to Norway, the fjord region is one of the most spectacular. Set off on our Highlights of Scandinavia: Sweden, Norway & Denmark tour to see just what we mean! Cruising through the narrow waterways while admiring soaring mountains, cascading waterfalls, and cliffside villages like Flåm is the best way to explore this otherworldly landscape. Embark on one of our fjord region tours to get an up-close look at Norway's spectacular scenery alongside local experts.
Go beyond the fjord region to discover stunning, historic cities on Norway tours. The capital of Bergen is home a UNESCO World Heritage-listed Bryggen district and city center, and you can learn about Viking history inside Oslo’s Viking Ship Museum.
One of the best things about going on Norway guided tours is digging into the cuisine. Typical meals often incorporate grains, locally-produced cheeses, fresh produce, and wild berries. Plus, thanks to an extensive coastline, there are plenty of seafood dishes for travelers to enjoy on Norway tours. Here are some of the varied dishes you can try on trips to Norway.
- Everything from smoked salmon and shellfish to pickled herring and scrod
- Lamb is the most traditional meat, but other classic Norwegian dishes also feature goose and deer
- Polse , which are boiled Norwegian hotdogs served in a thin tortilla with vegetables and sauces (they are a relatively cheap snack and are readily available in Oslo on Norway tours!)
- Open-faced sandwiches called smørbrød are also popular, and feature favorites like smoked fish, shrimp, or cheese
- Potato dumplings called kumla
- Lefse , a sweetened flatbread topped with butter, sugar, and cinnamon
No matter the season, you’re likely to experience all types of weather on escorted tours of Norway, so packing the essentials is important. Rain is not uncommon, so bringing layers is a sure way to be prepared in case the temperature changes or it starts to rain. A waterproof jacket and sturdy walking shoes are a must, and scarves comes in handy.
Scandinavians typically wear laid-back, functional clothing, and one favorite material is wool. Fit in with the locals on Norway guided tours and be ready while you're out exploring by packing a wool sweater. Norwegians also enjoy sitting outside even on chilly days; layer up and take in the local scene at outdoor cafes and beyond while on Norway small group tours.

There are plenty of options when it comes to exploring the continent. Some of the most popular destinations to visit on a tour of Europe include Italy, Greece, Spain, and Ireland.

Europe is a year-round destination with varying climates across its many countries and regions. The best time to visit Europe depends on what type of experience you’d like to have and which destinations you’ll be visiting.
- Summer. A popular time to travel to Europe is summer because warm, sunny days lend themselves to exploring the outdoors. In July, the average high temperature in London, England, is in the 70s Fahrenheit—while in Rome, Italy, the average high is in the 80s.
- Spring and Fall. Some travelers prefer to travel on our Europe tour packages during the spring and fall because temperatures are more comfortable and popular sites are less crowded.
- Winter. A wonderful time to take a European tour is the winter. During this time of year, travelers can stroll through festive holiday markets, visit excellent museums, and settle in for tasty meals of seasonal specialties. To take the stress out of planning a winter trip, we even offer Europe trip packages specifically designed for visiting Christmas markets .
One of the main benefits of joining our guided tours of Europe is having the opportunity to visit must-see sites with an expert leading the way. When you go guided with Go Ahead we’ll help you skip the long lines at popular landmarks. Here are some attractions you’ll get the opportunity to see on our group tours of Europe:
- The Colosseum in Rome, Italy
- The National Archaeological Museum in Naples, Italy
- St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice, Italy
- The Alhambra in Granada, Spain
- The Prado Museum in Madrid, Spain
- La Sagrada Família church in Barcelona, Spain
- The Acropolis in Athens, Greece
- The Van Gogh Museum in Amsterdam, the Netherlands
- St. Patrick’s Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland
- The Titanic Museum in Belfast, Northern Ireland
- The Hungarian Parliament building in Budapest, Hungary
- Schönbrunn Palace in Vienna, Austria
- The Viking Ship Museum in Oslo, Norway
- Rosenborg Castle in Copenhagen, Denmark
We recommend you spend at least six days in Europe. While our most popular Europe tours run from 10–14 days, you can enjoy a shorter trip if you limit your tour to one country or visit a handful of cities in neighboring countries.

Yes! The holidays are an exciting time to travel on our Europe trips because they offer an exceptional opportunity to visit Europe’s Christmas Markets and to experience countries’ unique holiday traditions. The holidays are a magical time in many European countries, allowing you to soak in the seasonal ambiance, enjoy festive food, and pick up unique gifts.
Thankfully, that’s a tough question to answer, as so many European countries offer delicious food. Ultimately, it’s a matter of personal preference, so you’re sure to find something you love no matter which country you visit. One strong contender for the top spot, however, is Italy.
Best known for its pasta, pizza, cheeses, and gelato, Italy is a foodie’s delight. That’s because the purest expression of Italian cooking relies on farm-fresh ingredients, and the cuisine changes from region to region. Fresh, delicious, and unlike anything you’ve tried outside the country, Italian food never disappoints the palate.
Wondering what to eat in Italy? Check out these regional dishes →
Another foodie's favorite destination in Europe is France. From its boeuf bourguignon to its pain au chocolat, France is known for its world-class culinary scene and timeless favorite dishes. While you’re guaranteed to taste delicious dishes no matter where you travel to France , the type of French food you’ll find depends on the region and season. The north of France features heavier dishes; the south features fresh fish, lean meat, and grilled vegetables.

While individual countries take pride in their languages, English is widely spoken in Europe.

We recommend packing light for your trip to Europe. One suitcase and one carry-on per person is a good guideline to follow; you should feel comfortable managing your baggage at the airport. After you’ve reserved one of our Europe tour packages, we’ll give you information about how to prepare for your particular trip and even share a packing list in our mobile app.
- Sun protection. For all our trips, especially during the summer months in Europe, we recommend bringing sunscreen, sunglasses, and a hat to protect your face and the back of your neck from the sun.
- Layers. For tours of Europe, we recommend packing lightweight, loose-fitting clothing that can be easily layered to accommodate varying temperatures, as well as a light jacket or rainwear.
- Comfortable walking shoes. Because you’ll be exploring new destinations with local guides while on your trip, a comfortable pair of walking shoes is essential. Whether hitting the landmarks of London or on a walking tour of Amsterdam, you’ll be glad you brought your most comfortable footwear.
- Dressier attire. You may want to pack dressier attire if you plan to visit a high-end restaurant or attend a special performance on any of our Europe trips.
- Full-coverage layers for religious sites. In Europe, it is preferable not to visit churches, temples, or other religious sites with bare legs or shoulders, and entrance may be denied on this basis.
- Other must-bring items. A camera to take photos during your journey, and a notebook for jotting down notes or recommendations your Tour Director shares.
