We just booked our first cruise with MSC on the MSC EURIBIA for 4/27/24- 5/4/24.  The itinerary is at the bottom.    A couple of people have recommended the Flam Railway as a must do.  Would you recommend the  2 1/2 hour excursion  (SCENIC FLAM RAILWAY)  or the 6 hour excursion ( AMAZING NATURE VIEWS ON THE FAMOUS FLAM RAILWAY) and why?  Thank you so much for your feedback.

AMAZING NATURE VIEWS ON THE FAMOUS FLAM RAILWAY - 6 HOURS

Once you are ready for the steep roads and mountain tunnels of this region, you can sit back and enjoy the ride through spectacular countryside. Leaving the port of Flåm, we will traverse a long tunnel that takes us to Gudvangen, and the coach will climb through the steep, narrow Nærøy valley. We will stop at the Tvindefossen waterfalls, a twin cascade of two fabulous falls. The excursion continues to the town of Voss, prettily located on the Vangvatnet Lake. We will board a train to continue our outing across a range of stunning natural landscapes, before reaching Myrdal. Here, at 867 metres above sea level, we will change trains and continue down the breathtaking Flåm valley, travelling on the world famous Flåm Line. The train will pass by Kjosfossen waterfall to allow passengers enjoy the lovely view before terminating at Flåm station, on the Sognefjord, from where we can walk back to the ship. Lunch included.

SCENIC FLAM RAILWAY - 2 1/2 HOURS

Take a trip on one of the most interesting railways in the world and be rewarded with some of the most stunning scenery in Norway. The Flåm Railway is a remarkable piece of engineering which provides wonderful vistas of the mountains and waterfalls that characterise this beautiful part of Norway. Boarding the train at Flåm Station, you'll travel along the Flåm River, which is one of the best salmon rivers in the west country, to Myrdal Station at an altitude of 2.845 feet (861 m) above sea level. Admire the fabulous scenery passing by along the 12.5 miles (21 km) track, including the sheer drop of the Rjoande Waterfall and the impressive peak of Vibmesnosi Mountain. In order to climb the 985 feet (300 m) Myrdalsberg, the railroad is built on 4 levels. As your train stands on the 4th level, you can see all of the other 3 levels. To ensure the best possible views the train will slow down at the finest sections, so you have time to capture the dramatic scenery. There will be a brief stop at Kjosfossen Waterfall to photograph the spectacular 305-feet (93 m) cascading waterfall. At Myrdal, the train turns around and returns to Flåm.

I would post this on the Northern Europe and Baltic Sea Ports of Call board. There are some very helpful people there who have lots of good advice.

Thank you!  I will post it there too.  I don’t think I can remove it from here.

I am booked on the 6 hour tour this August.  Having done the extended train in Skagway before I'm expecting a similar experience, with a much longer scenic train ride as opposed to a simple round trip.

I just posted this in another thread but here's my recommendation here too in case it's useful for anyone!

We did Flåm a few weeks ago on Virtuosa and would highly recommend the following:

Book the railway one way separately from the cruise excursions, and take it all the way to Vatnehalsen (which is one stop before the end) , get off there and do the Flåm zipline if you're feeling brave! From the bottom of the zipline you can also take bikes which means you can take a beautiful cycle down the mountain back to the ship (takes about an hour with no stops). Make sure to tell them at the top of the zipline you want to take bikes as well as you pay for it all in one go. Honestly such a brilliant experience! Does require some bravery for the zipline but 100% worth it!

I've also replied in the other thread too but for anyone else, if you just want the train ride up to Myrdal and back (the 2 1/2 hour trip) don't book it with MSC. The station is right at the dock (2 min walk) and it's a regular Norwegian train which connects with the mainline to Bergen, use' Norways Best' website to book yourself. Not sure how much MSC charge but it will be cheaper to book directly.

The scenery is stunning and we thought it was well worth doing (not brave enough for the Zip line or even the bikes!).

We have traveled on a portion of this excursion. According to the MSC excursion description of the six hour version uses a coach bus from Flam to Voss, a scheduled train between Voss and Myrdal, and the excursion train between Myrdal back to Flam. The highlight of the coach ride would be if they travel on the one-way road that passes the Stalheimskieva.  Google currently shows it closed but we rode down this road when we arranged our own "Norway in A Nutshell" in 2017. The train ride between Voss and Myrdal is very picturesque as the train climbs from Voss to Myrdal. Check YouTube for videos.

With regards to MSC excursion prices, we have found them to be very affordable compared to other cruise lines. We used them exclusively last year for a cruise in the Mediterranean and have booked five of six excursions for our MSC British Isles in September.

Also the Flam train ride does sell out daily so do not think that tickets can be bought that morning. Pre-arrange the excursion you choose.

Thanks

Very important advice, this isn't one you can leave to chance, especially if there are several ships arriving that day.

On that note, the impact of cruise ships had caused a lot of local resentment, and there are now limits on the largest ships docking when they are not the only ship there so that may help with ticket availability...

Keep in mind.  Flam train ride up to Myrdal on your own (much cheaper than ship tour) the ticket must purchase FAR IN ADVANCE because anytime there is a ship in port all good departure times ALWAYS SOLD OUT (cruise line reserved them all).

Been there, done that 6 hour excursion you're talking about. The historic train is just done one way and it is a very short ride. The other trains are regular Norwegian inter cities with tourists in the mix. This explains the difference. Want to see anything more, go with the larger excursion, otherwise it only going on the historic train and return on regular inter cities. As you state those shore excursions book very early and sometimes they're only available through the ship once they purchase entire blocks for themselves.

Have a nice day!

Flam Norway (Flåm), nestled amidst Norway’s majestic fjords, is a small picturesque village with lots of things to do! If your cruise ship is docking in Flam Norway for the day, then be prepared to be dazzled! In this guide, I will show you the best things to do in Flam Norway, from the world famous Flam Railway to breathtaking fjord cruises. So keep reading to maximise your time ashore!

4. flam railway museum, flam norway: is a diy excursion easy 😎😎😎😎😎 easy peasy.

Flam Norway is one of the lesser visited cruise ports in Norway. If your cruise is calling at Flam Norway, organising a DIY excursion couldn’t be easier! Here’s why I rated a DIY shore excursion in Flam Norway 😎😎😎😎😎 Easy Peasy:

  • Location, Location, Location: Flam Norway Cruise Pier is within walking distance of both the train station and ferry pier, making it easy to plan your own excursion on the world famous Flam Railway and visit Nærøyfjord on a cruise
  • Short excursions: Flam Railway is a two-hour return trip and Nærøyfjord is a 90 minute return trip. If you’re worried of the “all aboard”, then disembark early and you’ll be back in Flam town centre to enjoy the Flam Railway Museum by lunch!
  • Natural Wonders Galore : The scenery is beautiful in Flam, so even if you’re not interested in anything below, it’s still a wonder to walk around Flam. If you’re a keen walker, then there’s plenty of options to go for longer walks too.
  • Flam Cruise Port Address: A-Feltvegen 27, 5743 Flåm, Norway – see this marked on my Flam Norway Cruise Port Map below 🗺️📍👇
  • Currency: Norwegian Kroner (NOK), August 2024:  US  $1 = ~11 NOK NOK,  GBP  £1 = ~14 NOK,  CAD  $1 = ~8 NOK,  AUD  $1 = ~7 NOK
  • Language: Norwegian, but almost everyone you’ll encounter in Norway will be happy to speak English with you
  • Official Websites: Norway’s Best is the official tourism website
  • Recommended Transport App: Use Google Maps for walking directions.
  • eSIM Roaming in Norway: For a great data connection without the huge roaming fees, use an eSim data pack from Airalo. I always recommend having a smartphone with a valid plan when you’re at port touring independently. Get US$3 off your first eSIM data pack from Airalo when you use ROXANN1666  when you sign up or apply it at checkout

Unforgettable Things to Do in Flam Norway

1. the flam railway (flåmsbana).

The Flam Railway ( Flåmsbana in Norwegian) has earned its fame for a multitude of reasons! The 20 km (~12.5 miles) journey from Flåm to Myrdal treats travellers to some of Norway’s most spectacular landscapes! There’s cascading waterfalls, deep ravines, snow-capped mountains and charming villages.

The railway itself is an extraordinary feat of engineering, navigating steep gradients and challenging terrain. It’s one of the steepest standard gauge railway lines in the world, with 80% of the journey running on a gradient of 5.5%.

Cruise line excursions featuring the Flam Railway is often sold out but this is a very straightforward DIY shore excursion! Flam train station is mere minutes’ walk from Flam Cruise Port. There’s only one main road from Flam Cruise Port, so it’s impossible to get lost. So here’s all the details:

  • Timetables: 2024 Timetables (PDF), 2025 Timetables (PDF)
  • Journey Time: Return trip takes about two hours. One-way Flam to Myrdal is about 45 minutes. Train will stop in Myrdal for about 10 minutes before return trip back to Flam.
  • Kjosfossen cascades down a steep mountainside, plunging 225 metres (around 730 feet) into the valley below. So in early summer, when the snow is still melting, it’s quite a spectacular sight. (OK, don’t expect Niagara Falls!)
  • May to September: Returns are NOK 730 adults, NOK 365 kids aged 6-17, free for kids under 6.
  • April & October: Returns are NOK 630 adults, NOK 315 kids aged 6-17
  • November to March: Returns are NOK 530 adults, NOK 265 kids aged 6-17

Note: This is not a tourist train. It’s a regular train route but is very popular with cruisers, as it’s a return trip from Flam Cruise Port. So don’t expect “dome carriages” like the Rocky Mountaineer train in Canada!

If you plan to have a full day at port, then you can also take the train one-way and hike or bike back. In both cases, I would recommend taking the train from Flam to Myrdal station and then walk or bike back. This is because you’ll be walking or biking downhill most of the time. The descent is about 850 metres or ~2,800 feet.

  • Walk: It’s a 20 km (~12.5 miles) walk back. While it’s downhill, it’s still graded as a medium difficulty walk due to distance.
  • Walk & Bike: Ride the train from Flam to Myrdal. Then walk 3.5 kms (~2 miles), then pick up the bike to ride back to Flam. Book options at www.norwaysbest.com (NOT an affiliate link).
  • Electric bikes are available, though as the ride is downhill, a normal bike is just fine.
  • I would say you need to be reasonably confident on a bike as you’ll need to negotiate some sharp bends. One half of the route is on gravel and the other half of the route is paved.
  • Rent Bike in Myrdal : You can also reserve a bike for pick up at Cafe Rallaren at Myrdal . There’s limited bikes here (and as you’re doing a one-way rental), be sure to reserve and get a confirmation.

Note: Buy your own snacks and drinks at Flam! Or eat at Myrdal before your walk or biking trip. Either way, you’ll still need to bring water with you.

  • Pre-Book Online During Summer Months: If you’d like to do the Flam Railway independently, it’s important to do some pre-planning and pre-book tickets online at least a few weeks in advance. You can click through to the website and see that “it’s all green” (ie. tickets are available). But that’s because the last train of the day (leaving Flam at 6:45pm is almost never sold out, unlike the other departures).
  • No Seat Reservations: Important to note that there are no seat reservations on the Flam Railway. Seats are in 2 X 2 and 3X3 configuration – ie. two seats face two seats on one side of the train while the other side is three seats facing three seats. The train will “sell out” if all seats are sold, so you don’t need to worry. You’ll get a seat for your train journey.
  • Queue for Window Seats: You’ll see queues start forming as early as 30 minutes before departure. Since there are no seat reservations, many people queue to be the first to get on the train to snag that window seat. Sorry if you’re not a morning person but the earlier departures are generally less busy than the later departures. So book an earlier train if you can.
  • Which side of the train? I also get asked which side of the train is better for views. If you’re facing the direction of travel, sit on the right hand side when traveling from Flam to Myrdal or on the left hand side of the train from Myrdal to Flam. Ideally, if you’re doing a return trip, then you sit on both sides of the travel!

2. Nærøyfjord Fjord Cruise

Nærøyfjord is one of the two fjords in Norway which are on the UNESCO World Heritage list for their exceptional natural beauty – the other is Geirangerfjord . Nærøyfjord is equally as spectacular as Geirangerfjord, with narrow passages, towering cliffs and cascading waterfalls.

Nærøyfjord is one of the smaller fjords and your cruise ship would most likely have sailed along Sognefjord and into Aurlandsfjord on its way to Flam. So it’s unlikely that you would have seen Nærøyfjord yet!

Nærøyfjord cruises leave from the ferry terminal next door to Flam Cruise Port. Book online at www.norwaysbest.com (NOT an affiliate link). I’m a big fan of these fully electric catamarans used for these fjord cruises! Not only are there no emissions, there’s no noise, making the experience of sailing the fjords even more magical.

What to Bring: Jacket, sunglasses and sunscreen, especially if you would like to spend most of the cruise outdoors. I went in June and it was still cold! There’s a bar onboard to buy drinks and snacks, so no need to bring your own unless you want.

The Stegastein Viewpoint is a cantilevered platform, extending 30 metres (~100 feet) out from the cliff edge, about 650 metres (~2,150 feet) above the Aurlandsfjord. Because the viewing platform “sticks out”, there’s a panoramic unobstructed view of Aurland town centre and the impressive mountain range across Aurlandsfjord towards Flam. Easiest DIY excursion to Stegastein is to book the official coach transfer service. The drive takes about 30 minutes

  • Timetables: 2024/2025 Timetable (PDF)
  • Journey Time: Drive from Flam to Stegastein Viewpoint takes about 30 minutes. Coach then stops for 30 minutes before return trip, so budget for a 90-minute return trip from Flam.

If you’d like to have a longer excursion and stops at the nearby villages, then there’s a local coach trip that does that in addition to stopping at Stegastein.

Calling all train buffs! The Flam Railway is Europe’s second steepest railway ! So if you’re interested to know about Flam Railway’s construction and operation, then the Flam Railway Museum is for you! There’s interactive displays that showcase the challenges faced during the railway’s constructions. There’s also a detailed model railway that recreates the Flam Railway route.

The Flam Railway Museum is behind the railway station, just a few minutes’ walk from Flam Cruise Port. The yellow building next to the train in the photo above is the Flam Railway Museum.

  • Free to Enter: You’re free to enter and browse. There is an audio guide, which you can download onto your phone. So bring headphones if you’d like to do the audio tour.
  • Opening Hours: Daily from 9am to 6pm.

Flam may be a small coastal town but there’s loads to do here! From the awe-inspiring Flam Railway to the tranquil beauty of the UNESCO Heritage listed Nærøyfjord and the panoramic vistas from Stegastein Viewpoint, Flam offers an abundance of memorable experiences. So I hope that this guide has given you ideas on how to plan your DIY itinerary for your port day at Flam. Have a most wonderful fjord day and as always, happy cruising! Assuming that you dock in Flam, you walk across the parking lot to the train station.

Hi all. Does anyone know how to reach the Flam Railway? We are going to Norway on the MSC Opera and the excursions on board are very expensive so we were hoping to go on the train journey ourselves. Kind Regards

Welcome to these Cruise Critic boards. With all do respect, it is not exactly as simple as walking off of the ship and getting on the nearby train. Flam is small and the train places is close . . . BUT . . . the big, big variable is about how many ships are in port that day, their size, etc. On busy days, the train can be booked way ahead with large groups from all of the ships. Cruise ship excursion are costly there, in part, because Norway is so very costly and labor costs are high, etc.

There have been many earlier posts on this subject. It's trade-off!! The ship train trip costs more, but then you don't have to worry on getting your tickets, what if the ship is late, etc. Here's more information on Flam, plus some of my visuals below. It's a must-do in my view. We loved the trip, sights, etc.

What ship are you on for your cruise, dates there, other ports visiting, past Europe experiences, etc.?? Tell us more and we're happy to share added tips, ideas, etc.

Flam , with a population of about 500, is nestled in a tributary of the world's longest and deepest fjord. It is 128 miles long and has a maximum depth of 4,291 feet. On the question of how deep are these fjords, local say: “A mermaid could swim all the way to China.” The chief attraction here is the 66-year-old Flam Railway . It is widely known as one of the world's best railroad journeys. It includes twenty tunnels and eight stops as it goes up the mountain. This rail lines rises from Flam’s gingerbread rail station going up 2,835 feet to Myrdal and this "Roof of Norway" rail station. Railroad website: http://www.flaamsbana.no/eng.

Here are a couple of other suggestions to help you and other future travelers. FIRST, scroll back through all of the earlier postings. You will see many different items on ports you would visit and/or at the board for each separate cruise line in planning for your upcoming cruise. SECOND, do a search on these boards by each city and you will see lots of postings on various subjects connected with each port stop.

THANKS! Enjoy! Terry in Ohio

For details and visuals, etc., from our July 1-16, 2010, Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise experience from Copenhagen on the Silver Cloud, check out this posting. This posting is now at 69,854 views.

Arriving at Flam, the Captain is right there directing this docking process. You can see here some of the fjord mountains, waterfalls in the background. This town is fairly small with the rail trip being the main attraction and activity here.:

Here are a few highlights from the Flam train ride, including where you stop in a stone tunnel to get out and then see this dramatic 305-foot-high Kjosfossen Waterfall half-way on this 12.4 mile trip. We then exit the train at the Vatnahalsen Hotel, to see the grounds, nearby mountains, etc. Lots of great views on this routing, up and down. :

I've been emailing them using this email:[email protected] You need a group of 10 or more to make a reservation. Otherwise you just have to take your chances that day (or book a ship tour). I was able to make a group through my cruise critic group and then used that email to book it.

http://www.nsb.no/frontpage/

But when checking, they say: "This particular ticket can be purchased at a ticket machine, at manned stations or on board the train. If you choose to buy the ticket on board the train, there is an additional fee of NOK 20, - This option applies only from stations where advance purchase is impossible."

The cruise lines will block/tie-up large numbers of ticket reservations at the key times. It is also not that these trains are departing every ten minutes up and down. The schedule from NSB showed departures about every hour and 15 minutes.

Do still want to hear more reactions and details from Tia123, our original poster. It is not unusual to have a "light" lunch in Norway for two that runs $65. That's a small pizza and hamburger, plus drinks. Nothing fancy or lavish.

From our early July 2010 visit to the highly-rated Sognerfjord, here is the interior of the passenger car.: :

Here’s the Vatnahalsen Hotell that we did during our morning visit to Flam, riding the railroad there, etc. Note their spelling for Hotell. Below is the interior for the small, charming hotel and dining place.:

While doing the Flam rail trip, here are some gift samples that we saw at the Vatnahalsen Hotell. This includes some of the candy items and a few dolls. Cute and intereesting!!:

This is the Flam railroad car with information on its twenty tunnels.:

Got to this site http://www.cruisetimetables.com/ , click on the particular port (make sure you got to the second 'destination' list not the first 'departure' list), then click on the port. A calendar will come up on the right so you can pick for that particular day. I've just checked our trip in 2013 and on our day there is just us (Eclipse) in port, but 2 days later there are 4 ships!

Thanks for the advice everyone. I think we will risk buying tickets on the day or as suggested, at a different port of call. We are travelling with MSC and they are charging around £85 for a child's tickets, when I've checked the rail website children under 3 are free!

The official cruise ships list is here.

http://aurlandhavn.no/en/cruise/skipsanlop-2012/

We found this website http://www.flambooking.com/booking.aspx useful for checking how many seats are still available on each train. you just click on the date you will be there.

Unfortunately on our date Celebrity had pre booked all the suitable times so we have had to book their tour.

Hopefully you will have more luck.

BTW on my list from ealier you can see if the ship is docked (kai) or tendered (anker).

Has anyone bought tickets through Rail Europe ahead of time? I know you have to pay more but at least you can have a seat on the train you want. Also can people in the US buy tickets on RAil Europe website? When I pulll it up it list a bunch of diffferent countries but the US isn't one of them.

You should be able to use a US CC on most European websites, however the US card companies quite often have a block on out of country purchases, so make sure you phone your credit card company before you try to purchase and let them know what you are doing.

When we were in Norway several years ago we did the "Norway in a Nutshell" tour recommended by Rick Steves. I used the information from his website so I would know what to book. I was able to book all our travel from Bergen to Oslo - which included a ferry, and 2 different trains between Flam and Myrdal and on to Oslo. All from home before the trip. So it can be booked in advance. If I remember correctly you can book thru Euro-rail.

I hope this helps.

We were just in Flam and took the train excursion through the ship. We're really glad we did even though it costs a bit more --- they reserved the first few cars just for the HAL passengers which was convenient.

More importantly, booking through the ship means that you won't be left if the train is delayed. For some reason, the afternoon train tour was delayed for close to two hours...that meant that the entire cruise ship waited to leave port. I'm not sure they would have held the train if those passengers had been out on their own.

Another tip about Flam if anyone in your group likes beer -- there is an excellent microbrewery right there in port. It's called the Aegir Brygerri. The decor is interesting and all made of wood and they had a stout that was so smooth and tasted like chocolate (and we don't even drink dark beers.)

Ray66

How did you get to the Flam brewery from where the ship docked? I went to Flam a couple of years ago and don't remember seeing it.

Excellent point on the timing and "risks" of booking the train on your own versus through the ship. As I noted originally, there are "trade-offs" to consider and weigh. Cheapest is not always best. For our stop in Flam, we were there just in the morning, 8 am to noon. Our window of time was fairly narrow as our ship was going on to nearby Gudvangen in the afternoon and a private tour to see the spectacular Tvinde Waterfall, the views from the Stalheim Hotel, etc.

Another timing "reality" is that ships get delayed, local strikes can happen, etc. The cruise ship train connection/ticketing does costs more, but it lessens any risks as noted and experienced by adventuregrrl.

For details and visuals, etc., from our July 1-16, 2010, Norway Coast/Fjords/Arctic Circle cruise experience from Copenhagen on the Silver Cloud, check out this posting. This posting is now at 72,110 views.

Here is another view connected with the Flam railroad where the train stops inside a tunnel to see a nearby, spectacular waterfall along the rail tracks. Plus at the top near the hotel, here's a view when people are getting ready to re-board the train in order to go back down to the port docking area.:

I just contact the Flam railroad about if I purchased tickets through Rail Europe would they be honored hear is their response. It is crap shoot how lucky do you feel? Either buy through the cruise line that charges you an arm and a leg or take your chances. Since we are visiting Geiranger and Olden before Flam can't find out if there is a train station in either one of those area to buy ticket at before we get to Flam.

Yes, we do honor tickets bought through Rail Europe. However, they do not guarantee that you will get on the train. We keep account of the numbers of tickets sold at the Flåm railway station, and only these will guarantee you to get on the train.

Glad I check it out before I bought the tickets.

Bobocasey, have you tried to form a group of 10 on your roll call as suggested a couple a posts back?

With the discount you are way cheaper off than the cruiseline AND you have a guaranteed spot on the train. If you're afraid of missing the ships departure, just book an early train.

Unfortunately all the spots for groups have been taken up by the cruise line. Oh what a suprise. Thanks for the suggestion but unfortunately won't work this time. But luckily we will be the only ship in port that day. Which might help.

Hi,   How did you get to the Flam brewery from where the ship docked? I went to Flam a couple of years ago and don't remember seeing it.

The brewery is just outside of the cruise terminal.

I know there are no train stations at Geiranger or Olden (at least nearby).

From the cut-and-paste, it looks like with Rail Europe you're basically pre-paying for a ticket for pick-up, not actually reserving a seat on the train, so there's really not much benefit to pre-buying here.

What ship (szie) are you on, and how many other ships (and what are their sizes) will be in port when you're there?

If it's small and manageable, I would suggest pretending to book the railroad excursion on your ship to see when the excursion leaves to see if you might be able to catch the train before them.

On our excursion to Flam, we were the first on the railway, and the train we took was the second or third one from Flam that morning and we knew of fellow passengers who took the earlier train (lining up and buying right at Flam) without much trouble. They actually took it round trip so had views going both ways.

It's a very scenic ride (but not that long).

It looks like our ship is the only oe in port that day. We are scheduled to get into port at 9:00. The ship has about 2,500 passengers I would guess it it the Eclispe. I was thinking that if we got off the ship as soon as it docked we might have a chance of getting tickets. Most of the shore excurisons as far as I can tell don't begin until the 11:00 train. We want to ride up to Mydral and then walk part of the way back. SO I guess we have to keep our fingers crossed about getting train tickets.

Holidays in Anapa - how to get there, what to see, where to stay

You can read the original of this article in Russian here , and ask questions on the topic of our travel forum in English here .

General information, Rest in Anapa

Anapa - a resort town on the Black Sea coast of Krasnodar Krai, located 180 kilometers from Krasnodar and 330 kilometers north of Sochi ( Anapa on the map . Anapa also formally includes resorts Vityazevo , Jemete , Sukko and Bolshoy Utrish although in fact they are independent resorts.

Anapa is one of the most developed and popular resorts of the Krasnodar Territory, known for its long sandy beaches and very well-developed tourist infrastructure. Anapa is perfect for tourists of all categories and ages, but first of all we would advise you to go here with children of younger and middle age (up to 12 years) because of the peculiarities of the local beach and a lot of entertainment for children.

Rest in Anapa

✔ Advantages of the resort

  • Excellent infrastructure, there is everything for recreation
  • Lots of fun for kids and adults
  • The sandy beach is ideal for children
  • There are sandy and pebble beaches
  • Easy to reach

❌ Cons of the resort

  • The central beach is very crowded in high season
  • In high season lack of accommodation, need to book in advance

It is believed that Anapa competes in terms of development and popularity with the resorts Gelendzhik , Sochi and Resort Villages of Greater Sochi. But in fact, if you have a choice of which resort to go to, then in most cases the answer is very simple and depends on which beaches you prefer:

  • If you like to relax on shallow sandy beaches, then go to Anapa;
  • If you prefer pebble beaches, then choose Gelendzhik and everything to the south, including Sochi.

So, here are excellent beaches, perhaps some of the best in this part of the Black Sea coast. The resort has pebble beaches, but there are very few of them. But, of course, the calling card is the long and shallow sandy beaches, which are great for relaxing with children, or if you do not know how to swim.

The most developed and popular beach within the city is central. It has everything you might need for a beach holiday: entertainment, infrastructure and plenty of space. True, during the high season it can be so crowded that the place must be occupied in the morning. But this problem is easily solved: it is worth moving a little away from the center, as you will get to a multi-kilometer beach stretching towards Dzhemete and Vityazevo. All beaches are free and publicly accessible with the exception of one section of the coast, which was occupied by the Golden Bay hotel.

Read more about each of the beaches of Anapa you can read here...

Anapa Central Beach

Infrastructure in Anapa

Tourist and urban infrastructure in Anapa is well developed, there is everything for recreation and travel. In the center there is a bus station, near the railway station and the International Airport, there is a system of city buses. There are large shopping centers, supermarkets, small shops, markets. Souvenirs and tourist goods are sold at every turn. A special trade "chip" of the resort – shops and shops with trinkets" all for 15 rubles". On the beach and streets, you can easily find travel agencies and distributors of excursions to all corners of the Krasnodar Territory and neighboring regions, Flyers-discounts on entertainment, etc.

You can eat on vacation in cafes and restaurants, for everyday budget meals there are canteens with dishes from 50 rubles. If you prefer chain fast food restaurants, then you will find BurgerKing, McDonald's, KFC and Subway. Especially many places where you can eat inexpensively can be found on the partially pedestrian Gorky Street, as well as on the embankment streets along the beaches, but there are more expensive.

Rest in Anapa

Weather in Anapa, tourist seasons

🌞 need to go from June to August. This is the high tourist and beach season in Anapa. Especially popular and the hottest months are July and August, but in the first half of June it can be cool and rainy.

⛅ you can go in May, September and October. This is an acceptable time to relax in Anapa, but not very comfortable. In these months, the weather can present unpleasant surprises in the form of rains and cold weather, and in May the sea is also too cold for comfortable swimming. In October, the beach season can end at the beginning of the month or in the middle, so if you have to choose the best of these off-season months, then we would definitely recommend September.

🌨 do not go from November to April. In November, or rather even in mid-October, it becomes cold and uncomfortable for a beach holiday.

Current weather in Anapa and forecast

How to get there.

Anapa is located on the Black Sea coast in the Krasnodar Territory, 180 kilometers from Krasnodar and 1500 from Moscow ( Anapa on the map ). This is one of the most convenient resorts in the region in order to get to it yourself, and definitely the most easily accessible among the resorts located north of Tuapse and not related to greater Sochi. It has its own international airport, railway station, as well as bus flights from neighboring regions.

You can get to Anapa by plane through Anapa Vityazevo International Airport (Moscow), Krasnodar or Gelendzhik airport. But in fact, Gelendzhik airport is not very suitable, since there are few flights to it and they are more expensive.

Minimum price for tickets from Moscow to Anapa:

Minimum prices for tickets from russia to anapa:.

Upon arrival at Vityazevo airport, you can reach the hotel in Anapa:

  • By taxi . Cost 800 rubles airport or 350 rubles when ordering through the Yandex. money app.
  • By city bus (minibus) No. 113 . Goes to the bus station in the center ( bus station on the map ), goes once an hour from 08:30 to 19:30, 75 rubles, 45 minutes on the way. From the bus station to the accommodation in most cases, you can walk or take a taxi from 150 rubles.
  • Tourist transfers . Cost from 800 rubles, you can order in advance online on the sites kiwitaxi.ru or intui.travel and then the driver will meet you at the airport.

There is a railway station in Anapa, where flights are operated during the tourist season from At least Moscow, St. Petersburg, Yekaterinburg, Tomsk, Orsk, Izhevsk, Novokuznetsk, Arkhangelsk, Cherepovets, Krasnoyarsk, Severobaikalsk, Murmansk, Smolensk. Now there was also a train from Yalta. Of course, all these trains make stops along the way, so you can get to Anapa by train from a huge number of cities. Keep in mind that in some areas they do not go every day. You can view all train schedules at Anapa station in Yandex. Schedule , and we recommend buying tickets directly on the Russian Railways website .

You can get to Anapa by bus from the cities of the Krasnodar Territory, the Crimea, from neighboring regions (Rostov-on-Don, Stavropol Territory, Karachay-Cherkessia). Also during the tourist season, branded bus flights from more distant regions, including from Moscow, will be performed. Prices for bus travel are lower than air travel or train, but there is much less comfort, so we do not recommend going here by bus from distant regions, unless you need to save a lot.

If you prefer to travel by car, here is the distance from some cities/regions of the Russian Federation on the highway:

  • Moscow-1500 kilometers / 20 hours
  • St. Petersburg-2185 kilometers / 29 hours
  • Krasnodar-180 kilometers / 3 hours on the road
  • Samara-1680 kilometers / 25 hours
  • Kazan-1870 kilometers / 27 hours
  • Nizhny Novgorod-1660 kilometers / 25 hours
  • UFA-2200 kilometers / 30 hours

The route from Moscow, St. Petersburg, Voronezh, Rostov-On-Don to Anapa passes along the Federal Highway M4-Don of excellent quality. Part of the route is paid, the fare will be from 1720 rubles, and less if you pay for the fare in a contactless way (transponder). See on the Rosavtodor website , and in the same place as and where to purchase and use the transponder. You can drive on free roads, and in terms of mileage it will be quite a bit more, but you will spend several hours, because you will have to go around paid areas in settlements and roads of not very good quality. From other regions, you can still go on free roads through Volgograd or Rostov-on-Don, but there is a paid site in Rostov, which you can also go around or pay 55 rubles for it.

Transport in Anapa, what to move

Directly the tourist center of Anapa is compact, getting from the hotel to the Beach, amusement parks, shops and Markets is best on foot. Also in the resort, rental of bicycles, electric scooters, scooters is common, but rental prices are objectively high, so they should rather be considered as a form of entertainment than a real way to move around the resort. One hour of renting a bicycle costs 150 rubles, a day - 500 rubles, 1 hour of electric scooter-500 rubles.

As for taxis, only Yandex.Taxi works here so far (2020).taxis and local taxi companies, Citymobil does not work. It is best to order a car through the application or by phone, and the "Bombers" who are on duty near the bus station, railway station and beaches ask twice as much.

In Anapa, there is a system of city buses (taxis), but it is convenient to use them only if you need to get to the airport, railway station, in the areas of Dzhemete, Vityazevo, Su-Psekh, Sukko, Bolshoy Utrish. Travel costs from 26 rubles and depends on the number of a particular route, paid in the cabin to the driver or conductor, prepare a trifle.

Attractions and entertainment, what to see and do

Attractions directly in Anapa are few. You can visit the local museum of local lore or the Archaeological Museum "Gorgippia", and a couple of iconic places like a monument to a vacationing tourist or an old lighthouse. But if you do not limit yourself to the territory of the city, you can easily diversify your vacation by visiting attractions in the vicinity of Anapa and even in neighboring regions. You can do this by car and in rare cases by public transport, but it is most convenient and interesting to go on group or individual excursions. There are a lot of excursion options, they are sold at every step from distributors on the street and at stationary points of sale. Prices everywhere are about the same, plus or minus 50 rubles. Usually prices for excursions do not include the entrance fee to the sights, so when buying, check this point with the sellers.

Individual excursions are also offered, which, of course, are much more interesting, but also cost more. It is more profitable to buy them if you rest with a large company, so you can save a lot. You can pick up and book excursions from Anapa with reviews on these trusted sites:

  • 📷 search for excursions in Anapa on Tripster.ru
  • 📷 search for excursions in Anapa on Sputnik8.com
  • 📷 excursions in Anapa from the tour operator TezTour

Entertainment in Anapa is much more than attractions. In addition to countless children's and adult attractions, there is a water park, two dolphinariums (including the Dolphinarium in B. Utrish), two mini-oceanariums, a dinosaur park, a crocodile farm and much more. Some of the attractions of Anapa are not in the center, but in its suburbs, and it is not difficult to get to them by taxi or with a tour. Excursions to tourist attractions in Gelendzhik are also offered, but this is for those who have already managed to visit Anapa everywhere.
