Local News | AirPower tour allows public to enter, ride in World War II planes

‘it’s an out-of-body experience’.

One of the two B-24 pilots, Randall Haskin, is a U.S. Air Force veteran who flew combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan.

The B-24 World War II bomber plane, also known as "Diamond Lil," arrives at Oakland County Airport July 6.

Flight engineer Jim Gentry has worked with Commemorative Air Force for over six years.

A view inside the plane, originally constructed in 1941.

They don’t make them like this anymore.

Multiple World War II-era aircraft will call the Oakland County Airport home between July 8-11 as part of the Commemorative Air Force’s annual AirPower History Tour.

Planes will include the rare bomber B-24 Liberator “Diamond Lil,” accompanied by a T-6 Texan, a PT-13 Stearman, and the P-51 Mustang “Gunfighter.”

Another rare bomber, the B-29 Superfortress “FIFI,” was expected to be in town but will not make the trip due to maintenance issues. It is currently housed at the site of the last tour stop in Niagara Falls.

“Our mission is to preserve these airplanes, honor the people who flew on them and also, very importantly for this part of the country, the families that stayed home to build the airplanes and support the war efforts,” said Cheryl Hilvert, tour leader for the Commemorative Air Force. “And (it is to) educate the public and our young folks about the importance of The Greatest Generation and what they did for our country.”

A former city manager, she and multiple volunteers compose the team that travels to cities nationwide. Her job involves handling operations, personnel, hotel arrangements and scheduling.

Her father, at the age of 20, was a B-17 pilot who flew to England in 1944.

The B-24 that flew into Oakland County Airport on July 6 was just the 18th ever built. The navigation system is original, with additional technological apparatus added over the years.

Pilots utilize iPads to help with mapping while sitting in a cockpit that has no air conditioning.

Over 18,000 B-24 models were produced during World War II, the most of any bomber of that era.

Randall Haskin is a U.S. Air Force veteran who flew combat missions in Iraq and Afghanistan. Originally from Seattle and a current resident of Las Vegas, he now flies cargo planes for FedEx.

His first B-24 piloting experience was just last week, in Niagara Falls.

No stranger to flying a plane, he admits the B-24 is its own animal.

“(Flying in the Air Force) flavors my piloting experience, but this is a brand new experience, completely different for me,” said Haskin, whose father is a Korean War veteran. “It’s kind of going back in time. I’ve flown much more technologically advanced and faster airplanes. This is really a back-to-basics airplane that takes a lot of stick and rudder skills.”

He jokingly referred to the crew as a traveling circus. Each member has a unique personality and offers something different to the experience. Sometimes, the experiences get quite personal.

On the Niagara Falls trip last week, a 97-year-old World War II vet boarded the B-24 for a joyride. He was formerly a prisoner of war for 14 months. Another vet, 95, was on board and even had his honorable discharge paperwork.

One female spectator spoke to Jim Gentry, the Commemorative Air Force’s flight engineer, and mentioned how her father manned a turret on another B-24 model during wartime. Her father had filmed a major explosion that he later discovered was the nuclear bomb falling on Nagasaki.

“You just listen to these historical things and it blows you away,” said Gentry, originally from Tulsa.

His mother was a Rosie the Riveter who helped produce such aircraft.

Not a military vet, he is an airplane mechanic by trade who makes sure these old models are fueled and oiled properly. It takes plenty of man hours, he said, including an annual examination in which engineers examine the innards of the plane to assure it is safe for flight.

After over six years with the tour, Gentry is still exhilarated.

“(The B-24 is) just a fun, fun airplane,” he said. “It flies great, everybody has a good time flying on it. We bring everybody up to the cockpit after we take off. They get a really great experience.

“The flight, it’s hard to put into words. It’s kind of an out-of-body experience to see the world go by.”

AirPower will run from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily. Aircraft will be staged at the airport’s terminal ramp, 6500 Patterson Parkway in Waterford.

The cost is $20 for adults, $10 for children ages 11-17, and children 10 years and under are free.

The T-6 and PT-13 will be offering rides daily. The P-51 will offer rides beginning at 1 p.m. Friday, July 9. The B-24 flies at 9:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. July 9-11. Cockpit tours of the B-24 will be available starting at 9 a.m. July 8, and at noon July 8-11.

B-29 Fifi, B-24 Diamond Lil, and More Announce Spring Tour

Tour, ground school announced for airworthy b-29 .

"The Airpower History Tour is back!" said this year's B-29 tour announcement. 'Mark your calendar as the world-famous Superfortress "FiFi" is making the rounds once again.

diamond lil tour

This year, Fifi will be joined by the world's only flying B-24 Liberator "Diamond Lil", the PT-13 Stearman, and other historic aircraft along the way.

"Bring the family for cockpit tours, pictures, to experience living history, or purchase an unforgettable flight experience on a variety of American aviation legends! Check out our tour stop locations to see when the AirPower History Tour will be near you!"

The Air Power Squadron will also hold its yearly ground school, giving volunteers and crews a chance to learn about the aircraft and mission from the inside. The B-29 and B-24 airframes require some very specialized and rare know-how to keep them running in top condition so many years after their retirement, and would-be caretakers have to start building their knowledge somewhere. The school will be held from February 16th to the 18th in Dallas, Texas. All are welcome, regardless of aviation, military, or maintenance knowledge currently held.

Tickets and tour dates for the tour can be found on the Air Power site.

Looking Back (and Forward) With Bad Bunny

Bad Bunny opens up about the state of trap and reggaeton, how he defines love, and his Most Wanted Tour.

A week after Valentine’s Day, Bad Bunny sat on a grand piano two nights before the start of his tour, singing 2018’s “Amorfada,” which roughly translates to “fuck love.”

It was an intimate moment that didn’t ultimately make it into his live show, but maybe that wasn’t the point; it felt like the breathless blurting of the lyrics was just for him. The silence in the venue during rehearsals transported those of us in attendance back to Benito Antonio Ocasio Martinez’s nascent career days, during which he cemented himself as Latin trap’s king before transforming into the more enigmatic pop star he is today. Still, it’s a title and essence he continues to pay homage to, and further builds on one of 2023 ’s albums of the year, Nadie Sabe Lo Que Va a Pasar Mañana.

“What’s happening is really cool,” Bad Bunny told me in mid-February, reflecting on this seemingly infinitely soaring moment in Latin music. “I don’t know where I see myself now… but it’s not here,” he says, before expanding on the relatable sentiment: “There’s a lot I want to do.”

In an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at Bad Bunny’s Most Wanted Tour (which ends this Sunday, June 9th in Puerto Rico), we discussed the state of trap and reggaeton, how he defines love, and more. Watch the full video, which includes conversations with a few key members of his team (including renowned stylist Storm and Benito’s trusted horse handlers who assure us that we have nothing to worry about) and read the brief conversation with Bunny, in English, below.

What inspired this business casual look? It’s like a no pants look.

I’m gonna try it, but I don’t know if I’m gonna get away with it. It’s a working outfit... I saw it in the locker room and just put it on.

You looked very pensive during rehearsal, what were you thinking about? Honestly, I’m always thinking of ideas, things I want to incorporate, whether I like what’s happening or not. We’ve been working on the stage for months and when I arrived three days ago and saw it, we changed it. It was just different, you just feel it or you don’t and I knew it needed to change. That always happens, it’s a part of my life…

It’s a process. Everything changes at the last minute.

Well, it’s your process, maybe not everyone else’s. We can be working on something for a year, and two days before I say “no” [ laughs ]... Karina [Ortiz, choreographer] starts to show me what there is, and I say, “Yeah, ok, we have to change this, let’s do this,” and that’s the way I envision things.

Scheming… Uh-huh.

And are you ready? Do you feel ready? I feel like you’re not… [ Laughs .] No, I’m not ready. I mean, like, yeah I’m ready because I always kind of am but, well, the production team’s ready, everyone’s ready, the dancers are ready, the lights are ready, the DJ’s ready, everyone’s ready. But I’m not ready in reality. But when the first show starts, I know I’ll be ready.

How do you know when you are? I think I just say that so it’s fun, but when I get there it’s like, “Yeah, I’m ready.”

On the day of the show, when you’re about to go on stage, what do you like to do? What is your ideal process in those moments? I’m super easy—being chill in the green room, listening to music, and when the moment comes, people ask me if I have rituals, if I do anything special, but honestly no, I just get off the couch and go.

I know you saw that we picked “Monaco” as the song of the year last year; congratulations! I like that you immersed yourself in trap again on this project. What do you think about where things are going in trap and reggaeton, and where do you want to take them? Wow, how do I answer that question… I made this album because it was now or never. It was the moment to make it, bring it back to what the essence of my trap was, which has always been different. There are the known figures of the style who, not necessarily imitate, but look at what the gringos are doing, and I’ve always just had my own trap and I think it’s been that way from the start. That’s what I did with this album: bring in my own style of trap, obviously, with an evolution. But I think I made it pretty clear that I was doing it because it had to be done, but later I want to do other things.

Regarding this moment of reggaeton and trap, something is always happening and now there’s a scene in every country. Because before it was just Puerto Rico in its corner, and now there are tons of people in different places and there’s new talent emerging all the time. Puerto Rico continues to be like that—every day there’s someone new, every day there’s a new reggaeton artist. I have some of them on the album, which is my way of supporting the new generation, and I don’t do it for anything in return. Those who have followed my career know that I support those who give it their all. I think what’s happening is really cool, but I don’t know where I see myself now. But, it’s not here. There’s a lot I want to do, a lot of music I want to make. [I have] a lot of heart.

Something I’m known to ask about, and that you talk about in your music, is love. How would you define love?  [ Sings ] “ El amor es una magia… ” Love manifests itself in different ways. There’s the love for your mom, which is infinite, of your family, friends... There’s the love for what you do; that’s why I’m here. If it doesn’t move you, it’s not love. I love this and it moves me so, “va por ahí.”

The Diamond Fund

The Diamond Fund is not only a unique museum displaying a stunning exhibition of historical artefacts, jewellery and precious stones, but also the main treasury of the Russian Federation. The dazzling beauty of the jewellery exhibited here is indescribable. With jaw-dropping diamonds and sparkling emeralds, this collection is unrivalled the world over. We proudly invite you to visit one of the most ambitious projects in our country’s history!

Today, it seems incredible that this fantastic collection began as just a small wrought iron chest that Peter the Great instructed the royal jewels and state regalia be kept in. It is very doubtful that 300 years ago, Peter would have foreseen that his rather modest collection would turn into this mega-project, comparable to the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London.

On the tour you will see:

  • Invaluable historical exhibits: coronation ceremony instruments (orb, sceptre, crown), insignia, items specially made for the members of the imperial house, the jewellery of Russian kings and queens (tiaras, earrings, brooches, hair clips etc.).
  • The Russian monarchs’ power symbols - the Imperial Crown of Russia, a work of art made up of diamonds and pearls, topped with a rare red spinel.
  • Jewellery made of precious metals and stones, created in Soviet times by outstanding master craftsmen, especially for the Diamond Fund.
  • ‘Seven Wonders of the Diamond Fund’ - a legendary exhibition of gems, including diamonds and other stones of epic proportions.
  • The collection of platinum and gold nuggets, the largest of which is called the ‘Big Triangle’ and weighs a whopping 36kg!

However, the Diamond Fund should not only be assessed by its astronomical value. The Fund is priceless because every historical exhibit found here is a unique artefact, and the delicate art of the master jewellers defies the craftsmanship of Mother Nature herself!

DAKAR, Senegal (AP) — Russia’s top diplomat pledged help and military assistance while on a whirlwind tour of several countries in Africa’s sub-Saharan region of Sahel this week, as Moscow seeks to grow its influence in the restive, mineral-rich section of the continent.

Russia is emerging as the security partner of choice for a growing number of African governments in the region, displacing traditional allies like France and the United States. Sergey Lavrov, who has made several trips to Africa in recent years, this week stopped in Guinea, the Republic of Congo, Burkina Faso and Chad.

Moscow has aggressively expanded its military cooperation with African nations by using the private security company Wagner and its likely successor, Africa Corps , with Russian mercenaries taking up roles from protecting African leaders to helping states fight extremists.

The Polish Institute of International Affairs said in a study this month that in “creating the Africa Corps, Russia took an assertive approach to expand its military presence in Africa.

Moscow is also seeking political support, or at least neutrality, from many of Africa’s 54 countries over its invasion of Ukraine. African nations make up the largest voting bloc at the United Nations and have been more divided than any other group on General Assembly resolutions criticizing Russia’s actions in Ukraine.

Malawian President Lazarus Chakwera, left, greets people in Lilongwe, Tuesday, June 11, 2024 where he made an announcement that the Vice President and nine others had been killed in a plane crash. The wreckage of the military plane carrying Vice President Saulos Chilima was located in a mountainous area in the north of the country after a search that lasted more than a day. (AP Photo)

Russia-linked entities also spread disinformation to undermine ties between African states and the West, the Africa Center For Strategic Studies, an academic institution within the U.S. Department of Defense, wrote in a March report. Moscow has been “sponsoring 80 documented campaigns, targeting more than 22 countries,” it said.

Here’s a look at how Russia is expanding its influence in Africa.

WHY ARE AFRICAN NATIONS TURNING TO RUSSIA?

Russia has taken advantage of political unrest and discontent in coup-hit nations, capitalizing on popular frustration and anger with former colonial power France. Military coups have ousted governments seen close to France and the West and doing little to alleviate grinding poverty, unemployment and other hardships.

Russia offers security assistance without interfering in politics, making it an appealing partner in places like Mali, Niger and Burkina Faso , all ruled by military juntas that seized power in recent years. In return, Moscow seeks access to minerals and other contracts.

Violence linked to extremists allied with al-Qaida and the Islamic State group has been on the rise in Sahel for years, despite efforts by France, the U.S. and other Western allies to help fight the jihadi groups there. In 2013, France launched a near decade long operation in Mali to help fight militants , which expanded to Niger, Burkina Faso and Chad. The operation ended nine years later but the conflict did not, contributing to anger with the West.

The U.S. has further lost its footing with key allies for forcing issues — including democracy or human rights — that many African states see as hypocrisy, given Washington’s close ties to some autocratic leaders elsewhere.

While the West may pressure African coup leaders over democracy and other issues, Russia doesn’t meddle in domestic affairs, Rida Lyammouri, a senior fellow at the Policy Center for the New South, told The Associated Press.

WHAT IS RUSSIA’S INTEREST IN AFRICAN COUNTRIES?

Africa is rich in minerals, oil and other resources, which come with political and legal challenges. Its resources are increasingly central to economic and national security, such as cobalt, which is used in electronics like mobile phones, or lithium, which is used in batteries.

Russia has thrived in countries where governance is limited, and has signing mining deals through companies it controls. An EU parliament study showed that Russia secured access to gold and diamonds in the Central African Republic, cobalt in Congo, gold and oil in Sudan, chromite in Madagascar, platinum and diamonds in Zimbabwe, and uranium in Namibia.

The U.S. based non-profit Democracy 21 group said in an analysis last December that Wagner and Russia may have made about $2.5 billion through the African gold trade alone since invading Ukraine in February 2022.

Though Russia is increasingly a partner to African countries in the oil and mining sector, it lags far behind as an overall trading partner. For example, data by the International Monetary shows less than 1% of Africa’s exports go to Russia, compared with 33% to the European Union.

WHERE DO RUSSIAN CONTRACTORS OPERATE IN AFRICA?

The first reports of Wagner mercenaries in Africa emerged in late 2017, when the group was deployed to Sudan to provide support to then-President Omar al-Bashir, in exchange for gold mining concessions. Wagner’s presence soon expanded to other African countries.

In 2018, Russian contractors showed up to back powerful commander Khalifa Hifter in eastern Libya who was battling militants. They also helped Hifter in his failed attempt to seize the capital of Tripoli a year later.

In the Central African Republic, Russian mercenaries have been providing security since in 2018 and in return have gained access to some of the country’s gold and diamond mines.

Coups in Mali in 2020 and 2021, in Burkina Faso in 2022 and in Niger in 2023, brought military juntas critical of the West to power. All three eventually ordered French and other Western forces out, and instead turned to Russia for military support.

Niger ordered the U.S. to withdraw its troops and close its multimillion dollar flagship investment in a sprawling military and spy base in Agadez earlier this year, after a meeting with a U.S. delegation ended poorly. The decision has upended U.S. counterinsurgency operations in Africa’s Sahel.

Weeks later, Russian trainers arrived in Niger with new defense equipment .

Nas Brings 212 to the 215 Unlike recent gigs where he’s been accompanied by large bands, Queensbridge’s master Nas came to Philly with a powerhouse drummer and DJ and rocked a lean, mean, rolling percussive set of his classics such as “Made You Look” and “N.Y. State of Mind,” along with totemic tracks from James Brown (“Popcorn”) and Marvin Gaye (“I Want You”). For additional NYC flavor, Nas welcomed Wu-Tang’s Ghostface Killah to his stage with a fiery duet on Raekwon’s “Verbal Intercourse” before Ghost took the mic for himself to re-appropriate the Wu-Tang classic “C.R.E.A.M.”

Marsha Ambrosius Thrills the Picnic Early Jilly from Philly may have been Saturday night’s big R&B draw, but early afternoon visitors were graced with the tough and tender soul of songwriter-vocalist Marsha Ambrosius. The Liverpool-to-Philadelphia-to-Los Angeles transplant first known to U.S. audiences as a member of Floetry and her sultry, debut solo album “Late Nights & Early Mornings” has spent the last five years working with Dr. Dre on a joint album, “Casablanco,” finally for release this year, on June 28.  If the deeply emotional “The Greatest,” performed during her Picnic slot, is any indication of what’s to come, her Dre album will be worth the wait — and as bold as her decision to wear an all-leather outfit on stage in 85-degree Philly humidity. Shaboozey Shows Off His Country Rap and Crooning Chops Hot on the heels of Friday’s release of his new album, “Where I’ve Been, Isn’t Where I’m Going,” rising singer-songwriter-rapper Shaboozey and his DJ came out the strains of Ennio Morricone’s “The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly” theme. He wowed the crowd with his deep, rich vocals, getting a big response to his hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” — and placing pedal steel guitar next to thick beats is next level in any context.

BackYard Band Brings Out Amerie and Scarface Washington DC’s young, dozen-strong go-go ensemble BackYard Band, brought their intricate instrumental skills to the small stage on Sunday with two radically different voices before them – the sweet of Amerie and the sour of Scarface. Amerie delivered a too-brief interlude before former Geto Boy Scarface unleashed his throaty Houston drawl. His version of “I Seen a Man Die” and its haunting refrain of “I never understood why I could never see a man cry ’til I seen a man die” brought a hush over the crowd in this continued time of violence.

André 3000 and his New Blue Sun Ensemble Subtly Stun the Roots Picnic Since the release of 2023’s meditative instrumental album, “New Blue Sun,” and its debut live shows earlier this year, Outkast-rapper-turned-flautist Andre 3000 and his ensemble have grown more confident and daring in their execution of supple and calm free jazz touched with layers of electronics, percussion, bid calls and washes of guitar synth. The group improvised for an hour — which seemed like one long song — before Andre shocked the crowd with a chattering, word-less rap and a howling bark only to laugh and say “Philadelphia – just letting you know I made that shit up… We’re just pulling shit out of the sky. We don’t know what we’re going to play next.”

Lil Wayne, Trombone Shorty and Babyface Close Out the Weekend The Picnic’s closing set was a dedication to New Orleans, with the Roots backing Trombone Shorty, singer/ keyboardist PJ Morton, R&B crooner Lloyd and a surprisingly soulful Lil Wayne. Weezy took his time, dabbing on what seemed like two dozen or more of his most deeply grooving tracks with Questlove bumping drums behind him. But Babyface closed out the weekend with typical suavete: The over-50s in the crowd swooned to his elastic crooning on “Soon as I Get Home” and “For the Cool in You,” but he brought the house down with hits he’d written for other artists, such as the Whispers (“Two Occasions,” “Rock Steady”), Bobby Brown (“Don’t Be Cruel,” “Every Little Step”) and the Philly-favored Boyz II Men cover “End of the Road.”

Hearing Babyface’s memories come alive was the perfect closer for a mellow, humid Sunday in Philadelphia.

The History of B-24A/RLB-30, Serial Number 18

Now known as n24927, "diamond lil".

Contracted to be built for France in 1940 and later contracted to be diverted to Great Britain, this Liberator was the 25th built out of a total of 18,482 B-24s.There were 7 aircraft built which were considered to be preproduction, accounting for this being the 25th aircraft, but with Serial NR of 18. In the past, unofficial documents have erroneously referred to this aircraft as having “Serial Number 40-2366”. Although “Contract Number 40-2366” was intended, that number was never officially assigned to this aircraft, because it was never delivered to the Army.

This aircraft’s construction was completed with the designation of AM927 and accepted by the British Air Ministry in May 1941. Two days later, a Consolidated Aircraft Company (CAC) aircrew flew AM927 to Kansas City and handed it over to Trans World Airlines (TWA). TWA had been contracted to conduct flight crew training out of Albuquerque, NM.

AM927 was then flown to what was called the TWA “Eagle’s Nest Flight Center” in Albuquerque, NM to be used to train RAF pilots. The following month, Frank Burcham and Ned MacKrille, TWA instructor pilots, were practicing landings. The right main brake locked up during landing and aircraft departed the runway. There was also significant damage to the bomb bay.

Consolidated initiated a recovery effort over the next 6 months and in December of 1941, the aircraft was flown back to the Consolidated Aircraft Company in San Diego.

Due to the aircraft being damaged too extensively to be returned to service as a bomber, but still flyable, a loan arrangement was made between the British Ministry and Consolidated Aircraft Company for the company to keep possession of AM927 for logistic support and further B-24 development.

AM927 was reconfigured with a solid keel, replacing the bomb bay doors and returned to service in July 1942. This is similar to the configuration of the later C-87 Liberator Express. Throughout the war, the aircraft was used to haul personnel and equipment between the five B-24 production plants and numerous vendors. She was also used extensively for flight test purposes developing such things as improved flight control characteristics for the later model Liberator bombers.

After the war’s end in November of 1945, Britain ceded actual ownership of AM927 to Consolidated Vultee. At this time, the aircraft was given registration number NL24927.

Numerous modifications were made between 1945 and 1947 to improve performance and sustainability that included the long RY-3 nose, and the PBY variant of the P&W 1830 engines and nacelle assemblies.

On November 10, 1948, the aircraft was sold to the Continental Can Company.  The aircraft was repainted and outfitted with a luxury interior. The company utilized AM927 for executive transport and cross-country flights between its North American plants for the next 10 years.

In April of 1959, the aircraft was sold and exported to the Petróleos Mexicanos (Pemex), a Mexican state-owned petroleum company. The Registration became XC-CAY and it was used to transport personnel throughout Latin America and the United States.

In 1967, Pemex decided to upgrade and replace AM927 with a DC-6 aircraft. At this time, AM927 was loaned to the Commemorative Air Force who eventually took full ownership of the aircraft in May 1968.  It was Registered as N12905 until 1990 when it was Registered as N24927.

In 1972, AM927 was painted in the colors of the 98th BG, of the Ploesti Raid, and given the name “Diamond Lil”. It toured the U.S. in that configuration for many years. In 1992, it flew across the Atlantic to England, spending several months at Airshows and Tour Stops.

During 2006-2007, the aircraft was reconfigured back to her B-24A/RLB-30 roots which involved removing the fuselage windows, adding .50 Cal guns in the Nose, Waist, Belly, and Tail. It was painted in a darker green/brown camouflage and the “Ol 927” nose art. In April 2012, the CAF’s long-time Liberator legacy nose art “Diamond Lil” was returned.

On May 26, 2012, Diamond Lil experienced a complete hydraulic failure, due to a burst line, and suffered a subsequent nose gear collapse in Charlotte, NC.  Temporary repairs were made and the aircraft was flown back to Addison, Texas.  Because of the need to fabricate many replacement parts, restoration was not complete until July of 2013.

From mid-2013 through June 2015, Diamond Lil toured the US with successful events, including AirVenture in Oshkosh, Reading WWII Weekend, and Sun N' Fun among others.

In July 2015, Diamond Lil was placed in long term maintenance status for a number of repairs and upgrades.  These included resealing of wing fuel tanks and new avionics.

September 1, 2016 was the first flight after the extended maintenance period, which proceeded without incident. However, after a series of pilot training flights later in the day, two ‘high-time’ engines failed, and the aircraft was once again grounded. The need for new engines was not a surprise as three of the four engines were ‘high-time’, but without funds to replace them, it was hoped to fly another year. Instead, Lil joined our B-29 ‘FIFI’ in the hangar at the Vintage Flying Museum at Ft. Worth's Meacham Field as she awaited engines. By early 2018 fund-raising efforts and financial arrangements allowed purchase of three ‘new’ engines for Lil.

October 2018 – Diamond Lil began flying again with her first appearance at Wings Over Dallas and a subsequent Veteran’s Day event in Conway, AR - providing new and older generations the experience of this rare aircraft through aircraft tours and ride flights. After much time in maintenance mode, she is again in excellent mechanical condition and actively touring alongside other APHT aircraft.

Drake and lil wayne spotted rapping lyrics from teleprompter on 'blur' tour, drake & lil wayne rappin' from teleprompter on tour ... janky or justified.

Lil Wayne gave fans an extra treat by popping up at one of Drake 's recent shows, but onlookers in the audience noticed the dynamic duo getting an onstage assist ... from a teleprompter!

Weezy was Drake's surprise guest Sunday night in Sunrise, FL -- the same show where he barked back at Kendrick Lamar -- and some fans noticed a screen on the edge of the stage with the lyrics from "Right Above It" ... the song they were performing.

Actually, the entire stage of Amerant Bank Arena was fitted with teleprompters -- whichever direction Drake and Wayne ran, the lyrics were right there at their feet.

It was the perfect track to perform for the Florida crowd, considering it was the theme song for The Rock 's HBO sports series "Ballers," which was famously set in Miami.

It's a multi-platinum hit, so it would be surprising if they didn't know the song by heart. To be fair, there's not much evidence in this video they were relying on the prompters -- but, let's face it, forgetting lyrics could make for an awkward moment in a live show.

That's the question lots of people are asking ... is it really a true performance if the artist is taking cues from a screen???

Graphic artist Maha Sattva received thousands of comments questioning the validity of an artist's live show, dividing fan opinions.

Of course, Drake stole that particular show telling Kendrick he wasn't shaking in his boots regarding his "Like That" diss ... and the world is patiently on his comeback response.
