Frequently Asked Questions
How can I come up with a creative name for my travel blog?
Start by brainstorming words related to your travel experiences, interests, or destinations. Mix and match these keywords to form unique and memorable blog name options.
Are there any naming conventions to avoid when selecting a travel blog name?
Avoid overly complex or lengthy names, as they might be hard to remember. Also, steer clear of names that could be confused with existing brands or websites.
What are some tips for crafting an engaging travel blog name?
Consider using puns, alliteration, or evocative phrases that evoke wanderlust. Make sure it's easy to spell, pronounce, and remember for your audience.
How long should a travel blog name be?
Ideally, a travel blog name should be concise and memorable, typically ranging from 2 to 4 words. Shorter names are easier for readers to recall and type into their browsers. However, if a slightly longer name captures the essence of your blog and resonates with your audience, it can still be effective. Aim for a name that's easy to spell, pronounce, and reflects the spirit of your travel experiences. Keep in mind that overly lengthy names might become cumbersome and harder for readers to remember.
What is the best top-level domain for travel blogs?
The ".com" domain is often considered the best choice for travel blogs. It's widely recognized, trusted, and familiar to users. However, if a ".com" domain isn't available for your desired travel blog name, you can also consider other top-level domains (TLDs) like ".travel" or ".blog" to add a unique and thematic touch to your blog's web address. Ultimately, the domain extension you choose should align with your branding and help convey the essence of your travel blog to your audience.

Hey there, fellow travelers! When wandering the vast expanse of the online world, think of your blog name as your compass – it’s that first friendly wave, your virtual handshake, and the window into the soul of your brand. When it’s all about travel, that name better make hearts race with visions of faraway places, genuine adventures, and moments that stick.
So, before we jump into a treasure trove of travel blog name suggestions, let’s chat about why picking the right name isn’t just fun, it’s crucial.
A Lasting First Glimpse: The online space is vast and speedy. A snazzy and heartwarming blog name can stop a traveler in their tracks. Believe me, many will decide in a jiffy based on just the name. The right name reels them in, tempting them to read your tales and tips.
The Magic of SEO: Okay, tech talk alert: Search Engine Optimization (SEO) is kinda like your blog’s backstage crew. When your name has those travel buzzwords, it’s like giving your blog a spotlight, helping fellow wanderers find you more easily.
Striking the Right Chord: Your blog’s name isn’t just a name; it’s a vibe. Is your travel style all about luxury, wild adventures, hidden gems, or family fun? Your name hints at the kind of stories you’re about to share.
Being the Talk of the Town: In the bustling bazaar of travel bloggers, a catchy name helps you stand out. If folks remember your name and connect it with fab content, boom – you’ve got a fan for life!
Opening Doors and Wallets: Here’s a secret – as your blog gets buzz, a catchy name might just be your golden ticket to cool partnerships, sweet sponsorships, and more. Big brands love aligning with blogs that sound and feel pro.
With all this in mind, I hope you’re as stoked as I am about the importance of your blog’s name. If you’re looking to start a travel blog , the name is more than just a tag; it’s the cornerstone of all the amazing adventures you’re about to share. Ready to dive in? Let’s brainstorm the ultimate travel blog name together!

Picking a Travel Blog Name
1. pick an idea that focuses on what motivates you to travel.
You don’t necessarily have to choose a name that reflects your own traveling style, but it’s helpful if the blog theme is something that resonates with you. This way, you’ll be more motivated to keep writing.
The Adventures of… (your name) | The Blonde Abroad | The Traveling Troubadour
2. Pick a name that’s short, creative and memorable
You want a name that’s short and easy to remember. Make sure the name you choose is also relevant to your niche, descriptive of what your blog is about and has some personality.
Adventures by Alice | Journeying Onwards | Moms on the Road | Catching Cars
3. Create a list of words that describe your traveling style
If you’re struggling to come up with an idea, you can use a list of positive descriptive words (such as adventurous, relaxed or stylish) and combine them.
Glacial Travel | Authentic Wanderlust | The Travels of…. (your name)
4. Think outside the box if your chosen blog name is already taken
If you want your blog name to be memorable, it’s helpful to use descriptive words that are unusual. Challenge yourself and come up with some alternatives if the one you initially chose is already being used by someone else.
Bucketlistly | Your Travel Destination | Just A Little Bit Further
5. Take note of your location when you’re traveling
It’s a good idea to incorporate your traveling destination into your blog name if it’s relevant. Popular examples include Wanderlust and Lipstick, which both convey the idea of travel.

6. Think about the story you want to tell
You might also want to consider choosing a name that conveys the tone or subject of your blog. 7. Think about how people will search for your blog online
Choosing a name that’s easy to find by searching on Google or another search engine is important because it will attract more readers. Popular examples include names that are shorter, contain keywords and are specific.

8. Don’t let your name limit you in the future
If you want your blog to be successful, it’s important to choose a name that you won’t regret in the future. Think about how you’ll feel once your blog is up and running, and make sure it’s something that will suit multiple topics or different themes in the future.

9. Check for availability and buy your domain name

Travel Blog Name Generator
You can do better for your blog name. When starting out, people usually don’t spend a lot of time choosing a domain name. Instead, they go with the flow and go with the auto-generated name for their blog. This is the biggest mistake a serious blogger can ever do.
We strongly recommend not to use blog name generators for any purpose. There are a lot of downsides to using a name generator for the purpose of choosing a blog name.
Here are few reasons why we recommend you not to use a travel blog name generator:
- Risk of being flagged as spam or duplicate website
- It can limit your creativity
- You’ll end up with boring and unappealing domain names
- It doesn’t lend itself well for branding purposes
- The names they generate are generic and bland
- It makes you look cheap and the blog seems unprofessional

Choosing a domain name for your travel blog is the most important part of setting your site up, before everything else. Having a catchy travel blog name that reflects your purpose and direction is crucial to any startup, and certainly for a travel website.

Key Tips for Naming Your Travel Blog
Choosing a name for your travel blog is important. Here are some tips to help you pick the perfect name.
1. Keep It Simple
A simple name is easy to remember. Avoid long or complicated words. Short names are also easier to type.
2. Reflect Your Niche
Your blog name should hint at what you write about. If you focus on budget travel, include a word like “budget” or “cheap.” If you love luxury, use words like “luxury” or “plush.”
3. Be Unique
Make sure your blog name stands out. Check if the name is already taken. Unique names are more memorable and less likely to be confused with others.
4. Consider Your Audience
Think about who will read your blog. Choose a name that appeals to them. If your audience is young travelers, use trendy words. For family travel, choose a name that sounds friendly and fun.
5. Think Long-Term
Your blog name should work for years to come. Avoid using current trends that might become outdated. Pick a name that you will still like in the future.
6. Check Social Media Availability
Make sure the name is available on social media. Consistent branding across platforms is important. Check if you can get matching usernames on Instagram, Twitter, and Facebook.
7. Get Feedback
Ask friends or family for their opinions. They might catch something you missed. Getting feedback can help you choose the best name.

50 Awesome Travel Blog Name Ideas
50 77 Awesome Travel Blog Name Ideas
When I was getting ready to launch my travel blog , I had a really tough time picking a name for the blog. In reality, the name of a travel blog isn’t as important as you might think. It isn’t as important as quality writing, a well-designed site, a good brand, and a lot of content. However, your name is still a big piece of the puzzle, and should be something you like and can live with. To come up with my blog’s name, I did an exercise to come up with as many awesome travel blog names as possible and then slowly narrowed it down to my current name. I thought I would share this list with any future travel bloggers who are currently brainstorming for a name. Not all of these were from my original list, as I have added more since, so go ahead and use this list as a starting point for your own brainstorming. UPDATE: Feel free to use any of these names for your own travel blog. People have been emailing me a lot asking if they can use a name on the list. You don’t need my permission to use any of these names since I don’t own any of them. I also don’t own any of the domain names, so if it’s already taken there isn’t anything I can do. Good luck in your search!
1. Out of the Office – For a former cubicle worker who wants to quit and to put up an indefinite email out of office notification.
2. Plastic Free World – This one was suggested by Faith, a zero-waste activist from Plastimistic , who suggested someone visits places around the world where people are finding creative ways to make travel more sustainable and waste-free.
3. Tweet Pray Love – The digital version of famous book/movie. Thanks to @AndyMonfre for this one!
4. Losing Sight of the Shore – How does the saying go? “You can’t discover a new ocean until you have the courage to lose sight of the shore.”
5. Forks In The Road – For a traveler who loves food and decisions!
6. Corners of the World – This is a good domain name that is available: CornersoftheWorld.com

Travel Blog Names: How to Choose the Perfect Name
This post is all about travel blog names, including how to choose a great name, travel blog name examples, and plenty of ideas that you can use.
As part of my ongoing series about travel blogging, I wanted to talk about one of the most important aspects of starting a travel blog: deciding on a name!
Choosing a name for your blog is one of the first steps to starting your travel blog.
For next steps, be sure to read this post: How to Start a Travel Blog for Beginners.
Or sign up for my FREE five-day email challenge below to get your blog up and running in five days:
Your travel blog’s name is important because it’s the first impression your blog will make on others. You want a name that’s catchy, memorable, descriptive, and stands out from the crowd. You don’t want a name that’s cliche, confusing, or hard to remember.
Note: Did you know it’s possible to go ahead and start your blog without deciding on a name? You can actually start your blog now and choose a name later once you decide on one. When you sign up for web hosting with Bluehost you will get this option (and you’ll get your domain name for FREE!)
So how do you choose a great name for your travel blog? Let’s get into it!
Blog Name Guidelines
First up, before I get into my specific tips about travel blogging, here are some general guidelines to follow when deciding on a blog name.
I promise it will make your blogging life easier in the long run if you follow these tips:
1. Make sure it’s available as a .com ending.
There are other endings out there like .net or .org that you might be tempted to use if the name you want is not available as a .com. But try your best to find a name that’s available as a .com.
It’s the most common and standard domain name ending, not to mention the easiest to remember. Having a .com will make your blog look more professional.
2. Don’t use numbers, hyphens, or misspellings.
Don’t try to get too creative if the name you want isn’t available. For example, if thetravelgirl.com isn’t available, you might think of using the-travel-girl.com or thetravelgurl.com instead. (I seriously hope not, but just in case… don’t do it!)
You want to make sure that your name is easy to spell and remember. Picture yourself telling your name to someone else out loud: “Oh yes, it’s the-hyphen-travel-hyphen-girl-dot-com.”
Confusing, right? Try to avoid numbers, hyphens, or misspellings in your name.
3. Check that it’s available on social media.
This isn’t a complete dealbreaker, but ideally the name you want will be available as a handle on Instagram, Pinterest, and Twitter. Go ahead and check that before you register your domain name.
If the name isn’t available on every social media platform, it’s not the end of the world, although it might be harder for people to find you.
That being said, if you’ve come up with the perfect name that you just love, I wouldn’t worry too much if it’s not available on one social media platform.
This has happened to plenty of bloggers, either because the name is already taken or their blog name is too long to use on social media, so they just use a variation of their blog name instead.
4. Avoid cliches and overused names.
Travel blogging is a pretty saturated industry at this point, and there are a LOT of blogs out there with similar names to the point where it all begins to run together.
For example, you don’t want to choose a name like Nomadic Dave because the blogs Nomadic Matt and Nomadic Samuel already exist (and are super popular.)
5. Keep it short and simple.
Most popular travel blog names are short and catchy. Ideally, you want a name that’s two or three words. Anything more than that, and it can become a mouthful that’s hard to remember.
6. Don’t put yourself in a box.
Make sure you pick a name that you can grow with that you won’t need to change later.
Take Drew from The Hungry Partier, for example. He started his blog as a young twenty-something who wrote about partying around the world.
However, he eventually outgrew that name and even found that it was impacting his ability to work with brands because it sounded unprofessional.
So he had to completely rebrand his blog, which is something you really don’t want to do. Same thing happened to Stephanie from Twenty-Something Travel. She eventually rebranded her blog after almost a decade – I’m sure you can guess why.
Pick a name that you can grow with from the start that doesn’t limit you in any way, so you don’t have to go through the headache of rebranding later.
How to Come Up with a Travel Blog Name
Now that I’ve covered some general guidelines for choosing a domain name, here are some more tips to help you come up with a great name for your travel blog:
1. Use your own name.
A popular way to come up with a travel blog name is to make it a play on your own name.
Here are some examples of what I’m talking about:
- Adventurous Kate
- Wandering Earl
- Alex in Wanderland
- Solo Sophie
- Helene in Between
These are all popular travel bloggers with a strong personal brand.
Using your own name is a great way to give your blog name some personality. Just make sure not to fall into the mistake I mentioned above, which is picking a name that’s too cliche or overdone.
While there are already tons of self-named travel blogs out there, it’s still easy enough to come up with your own name that is unique and memorable.
2. Use your identity.
Another way to come up with a name for your blog is to incorporate some aspect of your identity. This can be your physical appearance, nationality, personality, hobbies, travel style, profession, etc.
Here are some examples of popular travel bloggers who went this route with their name:
- The Blonde Abroad
- Traveling Canucks
- Nerd Nomads
- The Broke Backpacker
- Wandering Educators
- Aussie on the Road
- World Travel Family
This is a great way to make your blog easily identifiable and stand out.
3. Combine some travel words.
This is a solid strategy for coming up with travel blog names. Basically, just combine two or three words that make you think of travel. Simple enough, right? (I’ve included a bunch of travel-related words at the end of this post you can use for inspiration.)
Here are some of my favorite travel blog names that do this:
- World of Wanderlust
- Never Ending Footsteps
- Just One Way Ticket
- Bucket List Journey
- Hand Luggage Only
All of these names instantly evoke the thought of travel for me when I hear them.
4. Make it really descriptive.
While the strategy above is great for coming up with a more general travel blog name, what if you want to start a very niche travel blog?
Choosing a really descriptive name is a great option. It will instantly let potential readers know what your site is about and can also help with SEO.
Here are some examples:
- Travel Fashion Girl
- Retire Early and Travel
- Cheapest Destinations Blog
- Europe’s Luxury Hotels
- Her Packing List
I’m sure you can guess what each of these blogs is about!
5. Make it a statement.
This is what I did with my own blog name. Come up with a statement or even a full sentence related to travel for a punchy, memorable name.
Here are some other bloggers who have statements/sentences as their name:
- Be My Travel Muse
- Will Fly for Food
- What a Trip
- Have Baby Will Travel
- Who Needs Maps
Choosing a name like this guarantees your blog will be memorable.
6. Pick two words and combine them.
This one is pretty straightforward. Pick two words and combine them into a name for your travel blog. It’s so easy to come up with a catchy and unique name this way. The two words you pick can be similar or contrasting. There’s a lot of room to get creative with this one!
Here are some great examples:
- Suitcase and Heels
- Atlas and Boots
- Camels and Chocolate
- Joy and Journey
- Sugar and Stamps
- Bridges and Balloons
While this “thing and thing” formula is commonly used, you can get creative and come up with a really memorable name for your travel blog this way.
7. Use an adjective plus travel noun.
Here’s another formula you can use for coming up with your travel blog name easily.
Pick an adjective that describes you or your blog and put it before a travel-related noun. (Optionally, you can add “The” in front of your name.)
A few examples of this:
- The Savvy Backpacker
- Fearful Adventurer
- Ordinary Traveler
- The Pink Backpack
- The Poor Traveler
- Expert Vagabond
- The Barefoot Nomad
- Practical Wanderlust
It’s easy, descriptive, and catchy. Travel blog names like this immediately give you an idea of what the blog is about and the personality of the blogger.
8. Think outside the box and get creative.
One final way to come up with a name for your travel blog is to think outside the box and throw typical naming conventions out the window. You don’t even necessarily have to pick something that is directly related to travel if it’s catchy enough.
Here are some atypical yet extremely memorable travel blog names:
- Goats on the Road
- Bacon is Magic
- My Life’s a Movie
- Two Monkeys Travel
- Leave Your Daily Hell
While some of these names don’t immediately conjure up images of travel, they all probably pique your interest and are memorable because of how creative they are.
Travel Related Words
Hopefully, those tips helped you come up with a name for your blog!

What to do after choosing a name (and what to do if you can’t decide on one!)
Have you picked a name for you travel blog yet? If so, congratulations! If you still can’t decide on a name, don’t stress too much about it. You can actually go ahead and set your blog up now, then pick a name later once you decide on one.
The thing you need to do next is register your domain name and get web hosting for it.
If you buy your domain name through an outside company, you can expect to pay $15 to $20 for it.
However, if you sign up for web hosting through Bluehost (my recommended web hosting provider) then you will get your domain name for free!
Bluehost is the web hosting company I use for my blog, and I highly recommend them for any new blogger. In addition to having fast, reliable service and great customer support, they also have some of the cheapest web hosting plans out there.
Bluehost has been generous enough to offer readers of Wander Her Way web hosting starting at $3.95 a month (normally $7.99 a month) along with a free domain name.
Here are the detailed steps to set up web hosting with Bluehost:
1. Click the “Get Started” button
2. Select your hosting plan
Which plan to choose: I recommend the basic plan for new bloggers.
I’m personally on the plus plan, but that’s only because I run multiple blogs. Otherwise I would probably choose the basic plan!
3. Put in your domain name
This is where you’ll put in the amazing name that you decided on for your blog!
If you haven’t decided on a name yet: Wait a couple minutes and this offer will pop up on your page:
Select this option and you can go ahead and start setting your blog up now, then use the free credit to buy your domain name later.
4. Create your account
5. Select your package and pay
Here’s where you’ll select your Bluehost hosting plan.
The 36-month plan is the best deal at $3.95 a month, but you can also pick a 12-month plan at $5.95 a month for an overall lower cost.
You also have the option to add on package extras, but I don’t recommend any of these.
6. Congrats, you’re done!
Once you check out, you’ll be redirected to your Bluehost dashboard. This is where you can log in to your blog for the first time and start setting everything up.
Your blog will be run on the WordPress platform. Bluehost installs WordPress automatically for you, so you don’t have to do anything on your end.
You’re now ready to start blogging!

14 Formulas You Can Use to Come Up With Travel Blog Name Ideas
**NOTE** At the time of publication (July 15, 2020), the domains indicated below were available. Feel free to use any of them—but check first to make sure they’re still available!
Formula #1: [Noun] & [Noun]
Formula 1 is perhaps the easiest one to come up with travel blog name ideas for. That’s because you simply make a list of words associated with your travel blog topics and see how many combinations you can make with them. This formula also tends to have that “hipster” feel a la Frank and Oak and Pop & Bottle.
Real-life Examples :
- Adventures & Sunsets
- Camels & Chocolate
- Atlas & Boots
Travel Blog Name Ideas I Came Up With Using Formula #1:
You’re free to use any of these below for your travel blog name! Please just CLICK the name to check if the domain is still available .
- Cocktails & Croissants
- Backpacks & Snacks
- Siestas & Sunshine
- Fiestas & Food
- Passports & Memories
- Airports & Passports
- Stories & Sunsets
- Backroads & Memories
- Java & Journey
- Java & Jet Lag
- Miles & Maps
- Airports & Backroads
- Sunshine & Wine
Formula #2: [Adjective] + [Your first name]
This one is another easy formula because you’ve already got half of it (your name) figured out!
Now, when you’re using this formula, keep in mind that your first name will always be associated with it. That means if you plan on selling your travel blog later, this might cause some issues with the new owner (though it doesn’t rule out ever selling your blog).
Real-life Examples
- Nomadic Matt
- Wandering Earl
- Adventurous Kate
Formula #3: [Adjective] + [Noun]
If you don’t want your first name in your travel blog domain, this is a great formula to use! With only two words, it’s short and easy to remember.
Real-life Examples:
- Legal Nomads
- Practical Wanderlust
- Budget Traveller
Travel Blog Name Ideas I Came Up With Using Formula #3:
- Thrifty Journeys
- Feisty Traveler
- Vagabonding Vegan
- Rambling Homebody
- Peripatetic Academic
- Wayfaring Warrior
- Offbeat Jetsetter
- Hungry Vagabond
- Eco-friendly Expat
- The Somewhere List
- Meandering Minimalist
- Humble Expat
- Literary Expat
- Bookish Tourist
- Fearful Wanderer
- Cultured Hobo
- Well-Read Wanderer
Formula #4: The [noun ending in -ist]
Formula 4 is fun because you get to make up a word! But, since you’re only adding “-ist” to the end of an existing word, it’s very easy to come up with ideas.
- The Anywhereist
- The Adventurist
Travel Blog Name Ideas I Came Up With Using Formula #4:
- The Backpackist
- The Daydreamist
- The Jetsetterist
- The Passportist
- The Railroadist
- The Overlandist
Formula #5: [Your first name/Noun] + [Adverb]
Another simple formula to use. Just plug in your first name (or a noun) and choose an adverb from the list below (scroll down), and you’re done!
- Anna Everywhere
- The Blonde Abroad
Formula #6: Alliteration
Alliteration (where the first letter or sound of each word is the same) is always a big hit! It’s pleasing to the ear and easy to remember.
- Passion and a Passport
- Mishvo in Motion
- Time Travel Turtle
- Global Grasshoppers
Travel Blog Name Ideas I Came Up With Using Formula #6:
- Van Life Vibes
- This Nomad Knows
- Nomad in the Know
- Someplace Sunny
- Total Travel Talk
- Chasing Warm Weather
- She Seeks Sunshine
Formula #7: [Your Name/Noun] in [City/Country/Region]
If you plan to blog about a particular city, country, or region, it’s a great idea to use formula #7. This blog name formula lets your readers instantly know what kind of topics to expect.
However, be sure not to pigeonhole yourself here. What if you include Armenia in your blog name because you’re living there to study for two years, but then you move again to a different country? Sure, you can always change the blog name; it’s just a hassle.
- The American in Paris
- Stacy in Spain
Formula #8: [City/Country/Region] + [Noun/Adverb]
Another great formula if you plan to blog about a specific area. Plus, you don’t even have to involve your name.
Real-life Examples: Sofia Adventures (Sofia, as in the capital of Bulgaria), Croatia Honestly
Formula #9: Take two words related to your travel blog topics and combine them to create a new word
Formula #9 is the most advanced in this list. That’s because, since you’re making up an entirely new word, it involves extra creativity. Also, again, because it’s a made-up word, it might be difficult for people to spell or remember.
That being said, it’s super creative and will impress a lot of people! It will also be totally unique, since you’ll have made the word up yourself.
Real-life examples:
- Gastronomad (gastronomy + nomad)
- Vagabrothers (vagabond + brothers)
Travel Blog Name Ideas I Came Up With Using Formula 10:
You’re free to use any of these below for your travel blog name! Please just CLICK the name to check if the domain is still available.
- Ecohobo (eco-friendly + hobo)
- Environomad (environment + nomad)
- Ecowayfarer (eco-friendly + wayfarer)
- Gastrohobo (gastronomy + hobo)
Formula #10: This + [Adjective] + [Noun]
I like the rhythm of this formula. It sounds nice and flows easily.
- This Croatian Life
- This Battered Suitcase
Travel Blog Name Ideas I Came Up With Using Formula #10:
- This Roving Heart
- This Wayfaring Soul
- This Tattered Passport
- This Busted Backpack
- This Nomad Lifestyle
- This Brimming Notebook
- This Bustling City
Formula #11: Play on words using a popular title
Formula #11 is another challenging one because you have to get clever if you want to create a play on words that people understand. However, I do not recommend this formula for most people because it might create some copyright infringement issues **I AM NOT A LAWYER, so I can’t give advice here.**
- Flora the Explorer (from the children’s show “Dora the Explorer”)
- Indiana Jo (referring to the Harrison Ford movie “Indiana Jones”)
- Alex in Wanderland (referring to the film Alice in Wonderland, which is based on the book series of Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland)
Formula #12: [Non-English word] + [English word]
This is a fun formula if you speak more than one language! You can use one word in your non-English language to include in your travel blog name. This really only makes sense if you plan to write about the country/culture of that language. For example, in the blog C’est Christine, the blog owner owner studied French in Nice, France, hence the French word “C’est” meaning “It’s.”
A word of warning if you use this formula: It may create confusion for English speakers who don’t know the foreign word. It might make it difficult for them to find your blog if they don’t know how to spell the word.
Real-life examples :
- C’est Christine

- RickSteves.com – Well, we all know him! He has built a strong personal brand around his first and last name, so it makes sense that his website is the same.
- KenKaminesky.com – He’s a travel photographer, so to get hired, it’s wise to make his name known.

Final Tips on Coming Up With the Best Travel Blog Name
- Short is always better than long. The longer your blog name is, the tougher it will be for anyone to remember! Just imagine you’ve met a fellow tourist while traveling, and they wanna check out your travel blog. You don’t have anything to write it down with, so you just verbally tell them the domain name. Will they remember it tomorrow? I recommend keeping your blog domain name to around 20 characters (not including www. and .com) and no more than 6 syllables.
- Do not use hyphens. Hyphens are annoying and will almost guarantee that people won’t type your domain name correctly. Leave hyphens out of your domain name.
- You CAN always change it later! Breathe easy, because even if you change your mind, YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR DOMAIN LATER. So just pick one now to get your blog started. If you keep going back and forth over your travel blog name, you’ll never start a travel blog . Just pick one!

You’re probably reading this article because you decided to take the big step in learning how to start a travel blog — and that’s awesome! …But of course, you’re temporarily stumped because you seem to be in need of ideas for travel blog names.
In fact, you might be one of those people who have been keeping a certain name in mind… only to find out that someone else had already taken that same clever title for their blog!
Now don’t worry and don’t be discouraged . There are still a LOT of ways to come up with creative or kickass blog names that will resonate with you. And while we’re in that line of thought, it also helps to note that there are actually a lot of other factors that you have to keep in mind because this blog name will set the direction of your domain, your branding, your identity, and yes: your business.
Even if you can technically change your travel website’s name at a later time, it’s an action that you must avoid especially if you have already gained some traffic or authority, AND if you don’t want to waste time, effort, or money! In other words, you must be sure of your choice; BUT the good news is: your travel blog’s name doesn’t have to be perfect, it just has to be right for you.
…It’s turning into such a daunting task, isn’t it? But don’t fret because you’re not alone in this. I’m here to help. After all, I’ve gone through this same dilemma far too many times — not only when I was thinking of travel blog names for this site but also for the other number of websites and businesses that I have built — and boy, have I learned!
That being said, yes, I still feel a tinge of regret for naming my site as it is now; but I do have this *funny* lifelong goal of making ‘Aileen’ a well-known name worldwide that is NOT, in any way, related to the famous murderer, Aileen Wuornos. So far, I’m succeeding because I’m 2nd on the list of Google’s top results. Yay!
Without further ado, let me help guide you through this naming process so that you WON’T make the mistakes that I’ve made.

5 Steps for Choosing a Travel Blog Name
Step 1: find your target audience and specific niche.
No matter if you’ve already thought of this or not, it’s absolutely important to refine your travel blog’s niche in order to establish your unique branding. Truth be told, this is the very first step that you need to take when learning how to start a blog because it will naturally help narrow down your choice of words as you come up with ideas for travel blog names.
You might be thinking, “ well, isn’t the topic of travel already specific enough? ” Nope, not really . Travel is a broad industry and it has so many subtopics (that are even further broken down into more subtopics) , and it is important that you find that particular segment that will help set you apart from the crowd. Besides, you can’t just establish yourself as an authority for travel tips because people will trust bigger names more such as that of Lonely Planet. So yes, you really need to build yourself first from the ground up in a niche that plays to your favor so that you can gradually gain traction and make a name for yourself.
So in case you haven’t done this part yet (as per my beginner’s blogging guide ) , the first thing that you need to do is to adopt this new concept called the Blue Ocean Strategy . It is a definitive process that will help you be in a ‘blue ocean’ rather than a ‘red ocean’.
- In an existing saturated niche with lots of competition
- Exists in a broad spectrum
- Slow growth and tries to capture existing demand
“A blog about traveling in a van”
- In a new market with little to no competition
- Exists in a specific spectrum
- Stands out and captures new demand
“A blog about traveling in a van on a budget for families in the USA”
As you can see, if you’re in a ‘blue ocean’, there is a deeper potential for you to achieve rapid growth because you are targeting a distinct market space that is untainted by competition yet still filled with a lot of opportunities. To be able to arrive at your very own blue ocean, you can take out a pen and paper and start writing down some topics or styles of travel that you’re interested in — or are good at.
With all those ideas laid out before you, you can now follow these 3 steps to narrow down your blue ocean:
- First, find a broad or common theme that you want to tackle or find a solution to in your travel blog ( a target market : e.g. people looking to travel in a van)
- Find a subset of that theme or target market that you want to specialize in ( a niche : e.g. families in the USA looking to travel in a van on a budget)
- This last step isn’t usually done by most but it helps to imagine the kind of ideal individual that you want to “serve” so that you have a clearer idea of the audience you want to target. To find this special profile, simply imagine an individual with clear characteristics that you want to cater to as dependent on the niche you picked from step #2 ( the ideal client/reader/audience : a parent in the USA looking to bring the whole family to travel or live in a van indefinitely yet sustainably on a budget in order to avoid high house rental or mortgage costs, and maybe even find a way to make a living while doing it such as through remote travel work) .
It might also help to ask yourself these additional questions in order to find the answer to the above steps:
- What is a pressing need that travel readers often seek?
- What top travel problem do I want to address?
- What reader demographic will I resonate with the most?
- How can my blog offer unique solutions to those problems?
- What unique perspectives can I apply for my blog to separate myself from the rest in the same niche?
- What is my vision or my end-goal that I hope to achieve with this travel blog? .
I hope it’s also apparent enough that these questions will help shape the overall branding of your website — which your travel blog name is a part of!
So now that we’ve found that sweet blue ocean that your blog will be positioned in, it will serve as a guiding light now as we proceed to step #2 that lists out the different ways that you can come up with your travel blog name.
STEP 2: Brainstorm travel blog names
Don’t fret if you aren’t creative enough with blog names because the truth is: you can be ! You just need a little push or inspiration and I’m sure that the pointers in this section will help you out. But before I start listing out some methods, let me take this moment to ask you this: what tone or voice would you like your blog to have? Do you want it to be fun, casual, and light? Or more mature, professional, and serious?
Once you get that sorted out, enjoy to your heart’s content the number of formulas, methods, tips, and tricks below that will aid you when thinking of potential travel blog names. Don’t hold yourself back — just list out every possible name you can think of (no matter how silly or plain it is) and we’ll do the last checks as we move forward to the next steps.

Descriptive
It doesn’t hurt to be simply straightforward with your travel blog name by describing what it is or what you want to do. As a guide, these two simple ‘formulas’ have been tried and tested to work:
Travel Blog Name = (your target audience / niche topic / keyword) + (your blog’s end goal / mission / vision) ~ Example: Working Holiday Experts = (young people seeking working holiday opportunities) + (to make readers as experts)
Travel Blog Name = (your target audience / niche topic / keyword ) + (the type of person that you are) ~ Example: Hiking Tyrant = (trails and hiking activities) + (undefined by rules and prefers to take charge and find something different)
Remember how this nifty book helped you with your college essays and assignments? Well, a thesaurus can help you come up with interesting travel blog names too! Some examples of words that you can use as dependent on the type of target market you want are as follows…
Adventure Travel = daredevil, epic, feat, legendary, unreal, vagabond, voyager
Budget Travel = bargain, cheap, frugal, on the rims, practical, prudent, thrifty
Couple Travel = duo, deuce, dyad, match, mated, twain, twosome, yoke
Family Travel = clan, dynasty, folk, forebears, kith and kin, progeny, tribe
Foodie Travel = bite, chow, cuisine, fare, grub, munch, nibble, slop, vittles
Luxury Travel = deluxe, frill, lavish, opulence, ritzy, splendor, sumptuous, upscale
Solo Travel = by oneself, lone, only, peerless, sole, solitary, stag, unaided
Sustainable Travel = bosky, clean, eco, green, meaningful, puerile, verdant
Volunteer Travel = bolster, enlist, proffer, relief, serve, support
Abbreviation or Acronym
This isn’t quite a popular way to come up with a travel blog name, but if you have the right combination of letters (that you can even partner with an extra word) , it can turn out to be a hit that’s short yet sweet!
Example: LDN Diaries (London Diaries)
Adapt a Popular Title or Quote
There are a lot of short and catchy sayings, quotes , idioms, or titles (of books, songs, movies, etc.) that you can try to make use of, especially since they already have strong ‘recall’ in everyone’s minds. To use this, simply swap one of the words with your own blog keyword!
Example: “Every Breath You Take” = Every Flight You Take
Alliteration
Alliteration is when words that start with the same letter or even the same sound are used repeatedly in a phrase or sentence (sometimes, they are even called tongue twisters). The beauty of this kind of style is the flowing rhythm or sound that they make for your brand name — and if I may add a tip, don’t use more than 3 words!
Examples: Everything Everywhere Johnny Jet Savouring Simplicity Thrifty Traveler
Do you happen to like a certain word in your native language or dialect? As long as it’s easy to pronounce and spell, don’t shy away from using it!
If you can only speak English, you can make use of Google Translate for ideas; after all, using a foreign word (and even mixing it with English or another foreign word, especially if they collectively sound good) can be a great way to brand your blog.

If you want to apply a casual and warm tone to your travel blog, coming up with a fun travel blog name can do the trick! Some style examples that you can adopt are as follows:
- Puns and Humor: Nomadasaurus, Will Fly for Food, Girl Eat World
- Slang: Wanna Travel, Gimme Them Points
- Drop a Vowel: Trip Hackr, Flight Hustlr
- Made-Up Words: Brand names like Uber is a made-up word. Feel free to use Wordoid to come up with words like this; but do also check if the word might have some other meaning in other languages and you can use the site Word Safety for that.
Juxtaposition or Oxymoron
Oxymorons are a figure of speech wherein two opposite or contradictory words are joined together; whereas juxtapositions are similar but rather involves placing two or more words or things side by side to show contrast or to compare. What both of these concepts basically mean is that you could come up with a unique blog name if you put two seemingly unrelated words together.
Examples: Alone Together Working Vacation Flight Ninja
Name or Nickname
If you love your name as I do, why not use it as one of your ideas for travel blog names? Some people have gone as far as to use their whole name, while others have used a nickname or even a pseudonym. This works best for personal branding and it even gives you the flexibility to expand your blog’s scope or niche if you happen to desire a rebrand in the future. Nevertheless, just take note that if you want to sell your website or if you want to expand and take on additional writers, it might be hard to do so since the domain is associated with you as a sole personality.
Examples: I am Aileen Adventurous Kate Nomadic Matt Alex in Wanderland Gone with The Wynns
Portmanteau
A portmanteau is a blend of two or more words (or even part of words) that expresses the combined meaning of those words. A typical example is ‘brunch’ which is the combination of the words breakfast and lunch. If you want some added help or tools for this, try out websites like NameMesh or Word Combiner .
Examples: Listverse (list + universe) Flightary (flight + documentary)
Prefixes or Suffixes
Prefixes are groups of letters added to the start of a word to change their meaning or function (e.g. auto-, anti-, hyper-, mono-, sub-, trans-) — alternatively, suffixes are added to the end (e.g. -able , -eer, -ious , -ism, -ity, -ness) . There are a lot of examples for each of these two and a quick Google search will show you a complete list.
Examples: Autowander Travelette Wanderous
STEP 3: Screen brainstormed blog name ideas
At this point, you probably have several ideas for travel blog names that are written out — BUT , before we proceed, it is vital that you go through these last checks in order to filter out the travel blog names that won’t be making the cut, as well as to ensure that you are choosing only the appropriate ‘candidate’ names.
- Is it related to travel? This is totally up to you as per the kind of tone or branding that you want your blog to have, but for as much as possible, try to incorporate a travel-related keyword into your title to give your readers an instant idea about the niche you’re in. Additionally, if you do this step, it will help you rank better on Google’s search algorithm given that it will be more SEO*-friendly; however, try to avoid words like adventurous, backpacker, global, journey, nomad or wander because they are already used a LOT by other travel bloggers especially big influencers like Adventurous Kate, Nomadic Matt, and Wandering Earl. I say this because you want people to recall YOU when they think of your travel blog name, so if you go for a name that goes like ‘ Nomadic YourName’ , you’ll make other people think of Nomadic Matt instead of your site and this will be detrimental to your branding since you are putting yourself in direct competition with these big authorities. .
* What is SEO ? It’s short for ‘Search Engine Optimization’ and it’s an important aspect that every website owner should know of when learning how to start a travel blog. After all, knowledge of SEO will help increase the number of visitors on your site, as well as its visibility on search engines like Google, Bing, Yahoo, etc. . If you want to learn more about this, you can go to Moz or SearchEngineLand given that they offer great FREE courses for SEO beginners like you! For more comprehensive courses, check Udemy .
- Avoid hyphens or numerical numbers because you risk people typing them out wrongly when they spread your blog’s name by word of mouth.
- Homophones or words that sound the same but spelled differently (e.g. bytes = bites)
- Homographs or words that have the same spelling but do not necessarily sound the same
- Avoid words that are not easily recognized or spelled by others, even more so if you are going to use words that are not in English (unless of course, you want to focus on audiences in your home country) . To check this, you can do a phone test to check if your friend (or better yet, an elderly) can spell your travel blog name correctly after they hear it over the phone. If they’re having a hard time spelling out your blog’s title, you’ll know you’re picking the wrong name.
- Ask a friend’s opinion. This doesn’t mean that you need their approval to use the name you thought of, but another person’s opinion (especially someone who knows you) can provide valuable insight about your choices.
- Say the name out loud. If it ever makes you feel awkward, then there might be a reason why it made you feel that way. Remember that this is the name that you will be introducing to others in the future, so make sure it’s something you’re not embarrassed about. .
- If you don’t intend to travel as a backpacker forever, don’t choose a name that will suggest that, or you’ll find it harder to score with bigger luxurious hotels in the future.
- Using trendy words like yolo (you only live once) might be cool now, but will it feel tacky to you in years to come?
- Don’t come up with something like ‘365 Days of Travel’ if you plan to keep your travel blog for more than a year
- Don’t use ‘Teenage Traveler’ unless you want to perpetually target teenage travelers as a niche. After all, well… you are going to get old. Of course, it can still be charming down that road, but it’s up to you.
- Consider that if you put ‘The Philippine Nomad’, readers might think that you’re just concentrated on the Philippines; unless that’s what your travel blog really is about. .
- Is it a good domain URL? For example, if you pick a name like “ Speed of Art ” if it’s squished up as a website URL it will look like: www.speedo fart .com — now, you wouldn’t want that, would you? .
- Is it already existing or trademarked? Try Googling your travel blog name ideas. Use quotation marks (“your blog name”) to see if this exact phrase has already been used on another site, or if it’s related to some shady website or branding. If you’re in the USA and you’re planning to register your blog as a business in the future, it’s a good idea to check if your name is trademarked. You can check this by going to USPTO .
STEP 4: Check domain URL availability
You now have a list of narrowed down travel blog names — and that’s great! Now, it’s time to check their availability as domains *.
What is a domain? A domain name is the unique ‘address’ of your blog on the internet. This is your URL. For instance, this blog’s domain name is iAmAileen.com and it will remain to be my unique identifier for as long as I continue to pay an annual fee. . Yes, a FEE . To be able to get these .com names, you would have to pay — rest assured, if you follow my how to start a travel blog guide, you’ll get your domain name for FREE!
To check if your travel blog name idea is still up for grabs as a domain, go to Bluehost to check.
…Chances are, most if not all of the names on your list are already taken; however, don’t give up just yet! Go back again to step #2 and brainstorm for more names. Rack your brain for other alternatives, variations, or ways to alter the name since they might be available as domains if you just change the order or spelling. Don’t hold back either in surveying your competition in order to get more ideas.
On the other hand, if one of your suggestions is available and it’s a name that you LOVE to have — hold your horses! Don’t get too excited just yet.
- Is it a .com domain URL? A lot of newbie bloggers are tempted to buy domains that end with .photography, .life, .recipes or any other TLD (top-level domain or extensions). While it may seem attractive to buy a domain that represents what you want your blog to be, it is ALWAYS imperative that you pick a .com domain as your main URL. It’s a lot more authoritative and search engine-friendly; not to mention that a lot of people are just so used to typing .com. But okay, if you really want that .life domain, you can do that BUT as an additional domain that you would redirect to your .com so that it still remains to be the main domain of your travel blog.
- TIP : If you have the extra money, try to purchase extra domains of your blog name under other popular TLD extensions like .co, .info, .net and .org. This is just an added safety measure that I’ve been doing ever since I heard about a story from a web developer friend that I had wherein her client wanted to buy her website’s .co and .net domain variant, but someone already bought them. In the end, they asked her for an exorbitant amount of money just to transfer the domains to her! This is definitely a special case, but it doesn’t hurt to be careful.
- Is it available as a username on social media? Go to this website called as KnowEm and check if the name is available across all social media websites. For as much as possible, you should NOT be forced to use dots (.), hyphens (-) or extra words (‘the’, ‘we are’, etc.) to secure your name on those platforms, most especially if it’s a social media channel that you want to be most prominent in (e.g. Instagram) . Don’t be like me who is now forced to use @i_am_aileen on Instagram, just because someone beat me to the @iamaileen username — and I kid you not, it’s hard to type all those underscores and it even takes a while to dictate to others my username… However, if this is truly the name that you want and you don’t mind the extra special characters, then it’s totally fine to proceed to the last step below…
STEP 5: Buy the domain and park social media usernames
As I’ve mentioned in step #4, Bluehost can easily secure the domain name that you desire.
For a complete and comprehensive guide on how to proceed from this step up until the set up of your blog’s website, you should refer to my guide about how to build a blog .
Lastly, go to each social media channel that you want to target, sign up, and ‘park’ your username so that others won’t be able to grab it.
…and yes, that’s it! You have now secured your travel blog name!

FAQ on Travel Blog Names
Yes, definitely! If you follow my blogging guide and sign up with Bluehost , you can start building your website even if you don’t have a name yet.
I highly suggest that you go for a .com address because it’s a lot more authoritative and search engine-friendly — not to mention that a lot of people are just so used to typing .com.
If you really want that .life domain, you can go ahead and purchase it, BUT only as an additional domain. Meaning that you should redirect it to your .com domain address so that the .com still remains to be the main domain of your travel blog. (“Redirect” — did that sound complicated? Don’t worry! Just chat with Bluehost ‘s customer service team and they’ll be happy to do it for you.)
Some websites like Godaddy can act as ‘brokers’ wherein they will contact the owner of that domain that you like and then negotiate with them on your behalf (they will get a commission if the negotiation turns out to be successful). This is clearly a costly process but if you really want a certain name for your blog’s branding, it doesn’t hurt to give it a try. Just take note that in most cases, the original site owner might refuse to sell their domain, and the fees you paid with the broker are often non-refundable.
I hope that all of the tips that I’ve shared here about coming up with travel blog names will prove to be helpful.
Just remember that you don’t have to rush! Take your time for this especially because your site’s name is going to be very important in the long run. All in all, I’m just so glad you’re taking the steps to start your own blog. Feel free to share the final name that you ended up using in the comment box below!

How to Name Your Blog
Creating a blog is a big commitment. The name you choose is the backbone of your brand. With over 600 million blogs on the internet today , you want to make sure you pick something that will stick. Below, we’ve broken down some ways to approach this question.
1. Think About Your Goals
Determining your goals can help you nail down the tone and purpose of your blog. This is a critical first step before deciding on a name since you’ll want to make sure what you choose aligns with your overall desires for the blog.
For example, you don’t want to name your blog “The Vagabond’s Easy Travel Hacks,” only to realize you actually want to write in-depth city studies and guides. That will create a tonal shift that might confuse a prospective reader.
There are a few ways you can determine the goals for your blog. Ask yourself the following questions to help find your focus:
- Do I want to make money with this blog?
- Am I an expert at something? Am I passionate about anything?
- Do I want to write long-form pieces, or short articles and lists?
- Do I hope to become an authority on this subject or a casual contributor?
- Do I want to stick to one subject or multiple?
- Who do I hope reads my blog?
- Do I want my blog to be formal or informal?
Once you have an idea of what kind of content you want to write, who you want to read it, and what you want them to do with the information they glean from your content, you can start thinking of a name.
Informal blogs might use contractions, slang, or buzzwords in their titles, while formal blogs will stick to pointed and simple titles. Someone looking to write about many different subjects can choose a broader name, while those wanting to write about something specific can hone it in a little more.
For example, a general travel blog could name their blog “Getting Out There,” while someone writing about airplane travel would want to go with something like “Up In the Air” or “Traveling Through the Clouds.”
2. Think About Your Audience
The first thing your target audience will see is the name of your blog. An inviting, interesting name will get them to click and, more importantly, stay on the page.
You’ll want your blog’s name to match the type of person you want to click on your page. For example, if you’re interested in getting views from bird enthusiasts, you might want to name your blog something distinctly avian. “Talkin’ Wings and Birdy Things” will attract a bird lover, while “My Little Nest” might be too confusing or off-base.
Finding your target audience is as simple as going online. Using online chat forums and Google searches, you can nail down what types of people are looking into your blog’s subject and exactly what they’re wanting to know.
A few tools you can use to find your readers are :
- Facebook groups
- Google Analytics
Search generally for your subject to get a sense of who is talking about it and searching for it. Then, look at what types of content they’re interested in and how they’re choosing to consume their information. This can help you nail down the focus of your blog and help you choose a name that will draw readers in.
3. Think About Your Industry
The industry you want to work in can help you brainstorm keywords, phrases, and messages that work for your audience. It can also help you determine your tone. When thinking about your industry, use other blogs as a reference. Take note of their names, and any trends you see among popular blogs. Then, think about buzzwords and phrases that are commonly used in your field.
Be careful not to rely too heavily on competing blog titles, as you’ll want your name to be unique and catchy. While drawing inspiration from other blogs is okay, be sure not to plagiarize or create a name that is too similar to stand out.
Lifestyle Blog Names
A lifestyle blog name can be personal, funny, and witty. These blogs are typically tailored toward lighthearted topics and are conversational in tone. Therefore, your blog name can be just as quirky and personable as your blog content. People who read lifestyle blogs are interested in the fun aspects of the everyday, so your blog name can highlight quirky aspects of your life or surroundings. A large number of lifestyle bloggers also choose to include their own name or a pun on their name in their blog title.
To brainstorm a lifestyle blog name, get a good handle on what content you’ll be publishing and think of words that best describe your vibe.
Lifestyle blog examples : A Cup of Jo , The Blonde Salad , Color Me Courtney
Fashion Blog Names
Fashion bloggers find success by keeping their fingers on the pulse of what’s trending and conveying their thoughts and ideas about what’s hot in fashion. Fashion blog names are typically related to the author’s personal style choices and also include universal fashion buzzwords that draw the reader in. Fashion blog names should make your reader feel excited about the clothes they wear and inspire feelings of style, couture, and confidence.
To brainstorm a fashion blog name, think about your own personal fashion and style goals. Combine your own personal flair with industry buzzwords like “clothes,” “threads,” “model,” or “runway” to create a name that is unique to you while being fashion-related.
Fashion blog examples: Fashionista , The Curvy Fashionista , Who What Wear
Beauty Blog Names
Beauty blogs are go-to resources for makeup product reviews, look tutorials, and hair and skincare routines. The people who are interested in these topics are typically interested in glamour, self-care, and how to create interesting looks. To appeal to this demographic, beauty blog names are typically chic, trendy, and stylish.
To brainstorm a beauty blog name, check out magazines and social media to see what’s buzzing. Also think about overarching themes or trends in the beauty industry like glamour, self-care, self-expression, winged eyeliner, and more.
Beauty blog examples: Into the Gloss , A Model Recommends , Really Ree
Travel Blog Names
Travel blogs encourage their readers to get out there and see what the world has to offer — whether international, continental, or just a few miles away. Travel blog names typically invoke feelings of wanderlust by using travel terms and puns that communicate wonder and excitement.
To brainstorm a travel blog name, think about your travel goals and styles. If you travel solo, you’ll want to incorporate words like solo-traveler, nomad, or free spirit. If your travel centers around a specific destination like European landmarks or Asian cities, you’ll want to include a reference to your favorite spots.
Travel blog examples: Nomadic Matt , Oneika the Traveler , Alex in Wanderland
Parenting Blog Names
Just like there’s no right way to parent, there’s no right way to blog about it. Parenting blog names are often just as diverse, interesting, and educational as the parents themselves. When setting up a parenting blog, focusing on what exactly you want to talk about is the first step in choosing a name. Someone focusing on educational topics for parents might go formal, while someone discussing parenting fails can keep it light. When parents turn to the internet, they’re looking for someone they can relate to — so parenting blog names should be inviting, fun, and simple.
To brainstorm a parenting blog name, decide on the tone of your blog and how you want to approach other parents. Shape your name around your family name, kids’ names, educational styles or goals, and home lifestyle.
Parenting blog examples: Toddler Approved , Scary Mommy , Moments A Day
Food Blog Names
Food blogs bring out the gourmand in all of us. Food bloggers share recipes, kitchen hacks, food reviews, and other mouth-watering content to intrigue both the devoted foodie and the casual muncher. Food blog names can be generic and punny, using common kitchen and food terms to convey their point, or specific to the location or cuisine that you want to write about. Food blog names should convey not only an appreciation for food but also for the art of preparing and enjoying it, tapping into a food lover’s every interest.
To brainstorm a food blog name, think about what types of cuisines or styles you visit most frequently. You can also think about your favorite kitchen routines, cooking styles, appliances, or foods.
Food blog examples: Pinch of Yum , The Minimalist Baker , The Hungry Hutch
Business Blog Names
Business blogs help people in every stage of their professional lives develop the communication, administration, and technology skills they need to thrive at work and in life. These blogs are often run by a business professional who publishes simply under their own name, but those who opt for a more creative moniker go for something office, hustle, or technology-related. Business blogs are typically more formal and streamlined, and their names should also have an air of professionalism.
To brainstorm a business blog name, consider using your own name if you’re trying to build a personal brand. If not, think about what you want to teach people and what you want them to learn from your blog.
Business blog examples: The Self Employed , Seth’s Blog , Small Business Trends
Tech Blog Names
Technology blogs take the influx of new trends, information, and products coming out of the tech field and make them more palatable for the general public. Technology bloggers use their insight and expertise to give their opinion on new trends while also helping people understand the technology in their own homes. Tech blog names are often to-the-point and informational. People who visit a tech blog want to know they can trust the information being presented, so keep your blog name smart and simple.
To brainstorm a tech blog name, see what’s trending in tech, or decide what aspects of this vast industry are the most interesting to you. Decide what you’re going to produce the most content about, or who you want to read your writing.
Tech blog examples: TechCrunch , The Next Web , GeekWire
Personal Blog Names
Personal blogs provide the most opportunity for bloggers to shine. When writing a personal blog, you can truly make your content whatever you want it to be, with no industry rules, suggestions, or audience expectations. That can not only make content generation easier but it also makes naming your blog a piece of cake. Personal blogs are typically published under the author’s name or nickname. People going to a personal blog simply want to know more about the person writing it, so you don’t need to work too hard in the naming process.
To brainstorm a personal blog name, first consider simply using your own name with one or two adjectives about who you are as a person. If you want to take a different approach, think of words and feelings that describe your lifestyle.
Personal blog examples : James Clear , Jen Carrington , Mattie James
What Makes a Good Blog Name? 6 Tips For Brainstorming
A good blog name is memorable, simple, and inviting. While brainstorming, you’ll want to think of something that clearly communicates your blog topic and tone without overwhelming the reader, or being too similar to what’s already out there.
Keep it Short and Simple
You don’t want to confuse your readers. Or worse, you don’t want to draw in readers only to have them forget the name or spelling of your blog once they’ve left your site. Short, simple blog names can help you draw readers in without overpowering them. Plus, they can help make sure your audience will know exactly where to return to the next time they want to read about your chosen topic.
Try Alliteration
Alliteration is when a sequence of words all start with the same sound — think “Peter Piper.” Studies have shown that alliteration can help people remember things . Therefore, choosing an alliterative name for your blog can help people remember it when they log on next. Plus, it’s catchy and fun.
Look to the Media
Using a movie, book, or song reference that has something to do with your blog topic is a fun way to pay homage to your subject while introducing readers to the concept of your blog. If you’re writing a travel blog, think of famous songs, movies, and books about traveling for inspiration on what to name your site. “Travelin’ Man,” anyone?
Use Humor or Puns
Using humor and puns is a great way to get people interested in your site. Those who chuckle when they see your blog’s name just might click in and read some of your content as well. If you can think of a short pun, joke, or witty phrase, this can help draw in readers and get them hooked early on.
Think of Related Words
Make a list of words related to your topic to help you brainstorm some ideas for making your blog. Simply creating a long list of related words or phrases can help spark your imagination, and it can help tailor your focus when you’re starting to think of a name.
For example, a food blog’s related words list might be: fruit, vegetables, stir, plate, dinner, spoon, fork, measuring, stove, pour, oven, bake, boil, knead, puree, meat, bowl.
Once you’ve got your list, you can start going over it to determine which words could be viable or catchy blog name choices. Using the food-related words above, you could decide to name your food blog: “Pour Over It,” “Bake N’ Boil,” or “Plated Thoughts.”
Don’t Overthink It
Just like Occam’s Razor , sometimes the best option is the simplest. Don’t spend too long convoluting your ideas or panicking about your name. If you’ve got an idea, try it out for a bit to see if you like it, then revise and revisit as necessary. If you start to get overwhelmed or burnt out, take a break from brainstorming and revisit the idea when you’ve got a clearer mind.
At the end of the day, a good blog name is one that combines memorability with simplicity. You want to introduce your readers to the tone and topic of your blog while making sure they’ll be able to navigate back to your page in the future. Once you’ve gotten your name locked down, you’re ready to start building your brand on your site.

Questions to ask yourself before coming up with blog names
When you start a blog , you should first decide what it will be about and which goals you wish to achieve by blogging. Begin by asking yourself the following questions, after which you will be best equipped to come up with and sort through all your blog name ideas:
What type of blog will you create?
Who is your target market?
Which writing style and tone of voice will you use?
Who are your competitors and how are they going about their blogging strategy?
Additionally, you should think about the motivation behind your blog. Do you want to make money, educate or simply inspire? Your name should tell your blog’s purpose or niche.

How to come up with a blog name
Before we jump into our 17 blog naming methods, remember that like choosing a name for a person, pet, business or domain, you want to select a blog name that can grow and evolve with you.
With this in mind, make sure the name you come up with is original and not too specific so that you can expand in your niche. This allows you to scale your readership and expand your opportunities to make money blogging .
Additionally, you’ll also want to make sure your blog name examples and ideas are catchy, short and sweet (not more than three words). You should be easy to find and effortless to remember.
According to Josh Brentan, a content creator and brand shaper who has named multiple Wix products and features, don’t stop at the first good idea you have. It’s essential to iterate, he says, because the more names you generate, the more open your mind is to inspiration, and the more paths you can explore.
“Once you’ve got a long list, only then should you start to narrow it down,” Brentan says. “Do multiple rounds if you need to.” Brentan also recommends using a naming brief.
Let’s take a look at the most effective ways to come up with blog name ideas:
Gather related keywords
Plug your keywords into Wix’s blog name generator
Make it a brand
Experiment with blog naming formulas
Invent a portmanteau
Use a thesaurus and special dictionaries
Adapt a popular saying
Incorporate another language
Try an alliteration
Use your own name or nickname
Simplify with abbreviations
Combine unrelated words
Come up with puns
Include the name of a city, country or region
Make up words
Keep it easy to spell and pronounce
Be purely descriptive (and remember the rule of three)
01. Gather related keywords
As you do your research, you'll start noticing repeating words that are often used in your blogging category, whether it's food, fashion or travel. In this very first step, you should jot down as many of the words that come to mind that relate to your niche. In later steps, we can incorporate these phrases into our blog naming strategies and blog name generator.
To help you gather words, read articles, blog posts and books about your topic and write them down. The greater the list of words, the more blog name ideas we can come up with.
Give yourself room to expand within a niche or industry. For instance, let’s say you’re a personal finance guru and choose to name your blog with the keyword “Crypto.” A name like this may be limiting if you ever want to discuss different investment forms or even change your niche entirely. Personal blog name ideas should have an authentic, genuine feel.
02. Plug your keywords into Wix’s blog name generator
Do you have a word in mind that you want to include in your blog name? Whether you have a starting direction or are at ground zero, you can find great blog name ideas with a blog name generator .
This online tool suggests names by combining the text you enter with industry trends to come up with relevant ideas that can inspire you, or ready-made names you can use.
This platform automatically shows you the domain availability for each idea, so you can go ahead and easily secure your domain name before someone else takes it.
Before you do so, make sure the name is also still available on social media, as you'll want to promote your blog on other channels.
03. Make it a brand
Consider which blog names translate well to branding when coming up with ideas. Eventually, you might choose to sell digital marketing assets, eBooks or possibly launch a product line related to your niche.
Consider how the name will read on social media, as a professional email address, and even as a logo. For inspiration, check out these blog logos built around a memorable brand strategy. Use Wix’s free logo maker tool to create your own custom blog logo.
04. Experiment with blog naming formulas
Luckily, much simpler than calculus, these formulas make solving the blog name equation fun and easy. You can use the keywords you've already come up with that are related to your industry and make them sound catchy once they've been placed in the right order.
Try one of these five techniques to get the best blog names:
Blog name = [modifier] + [noun]
Parenting blog: Happy Mama
Cooking blog: The Experimental Chef
Travel blog: The Lonely Traveler
Baking blog: The Healthy Baker
Arts and crafts blog: The Colorful Canvas
Blog name = [audience or topic] + [end goal or transformation]
Finance blog : Millennial Investors
Photography blog : The Photo Wiz
Health and fitness blog: Yoga for Inner Peace
Blog name = [noun] + [noun]
Writing blog: Pen and Paper
Baking blog: Pink Cupcakes
Fitness blog : King of the Gym
Blog name = [adjective] + [first name]
Thrifty Taylor
Flexible Alex
Adventurous Alex
Blog name = Simply + [word]
Food and diet blog: Simply Paleo
Fitness blog: Simply Cardio
Interior design blog : Simply Design
Be inspired: Fashion blog names , Lifestyle blog name ideas , Travel blog name ideas , Food blog names
05. Invent a portmanteau
Portmanteau is the process of combining two different words to create an entirely new one. You can form many blog name ideas when joining two familiar words into one.
The benefit of portmanteau blog names is that they can clearly describe your blog niche and are original since you create a unique combination. You also don’t have to worry about blog domain names being taken when you make it up yourself. To help you develop effective keyword combinations, you can use a generator tool such as the Port Manteaux Word Maker .
Examples include:
Travel blog: Footrip = foot + trip
Food blog: Appetizertime = appetizers + time
Music blog: Discritic = disc + critic
Travel blog: Flightescapes = flight + escapes
Photography blog: Shutterclick = shutter + click
Blogger Joe Massaro gave his music blog a portmanteau-based name that would look great on any band tee: Paperface Zine .
06. Use a thesaurus and special dictionaries
Dust off your thesaurus, or should we more accurately say bookmark a new tab, because this method can help you find just the right blog names you're searching for. How will it help you? A thesaurus lists words in groups of synonyms and finds related concepts that can spark a lot of new name ideas.
For example, if you've noticed a certain word such as travel is too often used, a thesaurus will suggest words like voyage, wanderlust and globe-trotting instead. More types of dictionaries can help you find the right blog name.
Here are some options to explore:
Thesaurus - Synonyms and related words.
RhymeZone - Rhymes, descriptive words, similar sounding words and homophones.
OneLook - Describe a concept and get back a list of words and phrases related to that concept. Tap into special abilities such as choosing the number of letters and the letter the word should start with.
OneLook Dictionary Search - Gives you words that often appear near your word.
Reverse Dictionary - Search for words by their definition.
Word Hippo - Find words ending with a specific word.
07. Adapt a popular saying
Sometimes familiar phrases just sound right to the ear. You can use this to your advantage by modifying a saying you’ve heard before and tweaking it to fit your blog name. Not only will coming up with a blog name be easier since you have a starting point, but it will also be memorable since it relates to a known phrase.
To help you think of common sayings, turn to Pinterest for quotes or even articles such as this one that list the most common English proverbs . Let’s show you what we’ve come up with:
Food blog: Bake the Cake and Eat It Too
Book blog: Been There, Read That
Fashion blog: [Insert name] Wears Prada
Finance blog: More Money, Less Problems
Home decor blog: Honey, I’m Home
08. Incorporate another language
Want to instantly sound more international and interesting? Consider including a foreign language in your blog name. Don’t worry, there is no need to sign up for a language course. A simple Google Translate search can help you find a blog name you agree with.
Try to choose a language that relates to your niche. For example, if you're starting a cooking blog, use a language from a country where your cuisine originates. If pizza and pasta are your specialties, using an Italian phrase in your food blog name is a no-brainer.
We've taken some general industry words and translated them into another language, so you can see the magical effect they can have. Take any of these words and plug them into your own blog name.
Fashion blog: À la Mode = The Fashion in French
Example: À la Mode by [your name here]
Food blog: Cucina = Kitchen in Italian
Example: Welcome to My Cucina
Travel blog: Adiós = Goodbye in Spanish
Example: Adiós I’m on the Next Flight
This food blog website template goes by the name Amuse Bouche, which is a French term that literally translates to "mouth amuser."
09. Try an alliteration
Alliteration is when the same letter or sound appears at the beginning of an adjacent or closely connected word. These word pairings tend to roll smoothly off the tongue and help with our memory, as they can be quite catchy. This can be useful for users when they want to look you up again later.
To come up with an alliteration, make a list of as many words as possible that also start with the same letter of the word you’re set on using. Remember, you can go back to strategy number 5 and get the help of one of the special dictionaries .
Here are some alliterations to get you started:
Lifestyle blog : My Luscious Lifestyle
Music blog : Music Minute
Fitness blog: The Weightlifting Writer
Arts and crafts blog: Crafting Creatively
Finance blog: Frugal Finance
Parenting blogger Shelby came up with a blog name that is both representative of her content as well as catchy enough to be memorable: My Modern Motherhood .
10. Use your own name or nickname
What better way to claim something yours than putting your name on it? Using your name or nickname allows people to immediately know the person behind the blog. This is very common in personal blogs . There are two main ways to include your name in your blog: using your full name or combining it with other keywords.
Using your full name will allow you to have a straightforward domain name that continuously reminds readers who you are. For example:
DianaWilliams.com
TonyJackson.com
AmandaSmith.com
The other popular way is to use your name and incorporate adjectives, nouns, or blogging niche keywords before or after your name or nickname:
Movie blog: Katy’s Movie Addiction
Art and design blog: Ella the Painter
Poetry blog : Poetry by Andrew
Fitness blog: CrossFit With Chris
For a personal touch, Wix user Anika Pannu hand-lettered her self-titled blog’s logo.
11. Simplify with abbreviations
"Less is more" can easily explain why people use abbreviations to come up with a blog name. A shortened form of a sentence or phrase can still allow you to have a longer message behind your name, but makes it short and straightforward to write and remember. This strategy is especially useful if your domain is already taken or if you’ve checked how much your domain costs and it’s too expensive.
See our examples:
Beauty blog: MBH = Make-up and Beauty Hacks
Fashion blog: DOI = Daily Outfit Inspo
Parenting blog: MPD = My Pregnant Diary
Love and relationship blog: LRA = Love and Relationship Advice
Fitness blog: WWM = Workout With Me
12. Combine unrelated words
We are not entirely out of our minds by suggesting you use random, unrelated words together. People use this method to come up with a blog name because it often results in some of the most memorable names.
You should have at least one word related to your blog’s function, but the others can be a color, an adjective or a noun. Let's take a look:
Interior design blog: The Dancing Furniture
Photography blog: The Laughing Camera
Travel blog: The Lazy Suitcase
Food blog: The Green Kitchen
13. Come up with puns
Time to get punny. To help explain, a pun exploits the different possible meanings of a word or combines words that sound alike but have different meanings. Consider adding a pun to your blog name to help you show your quirky and creative side. After all, people want to read a blog authored by someone with personality and using a pun can show this side of you off the bat.
If you can't think of a pun, try to use slang or humor in your blog name to achieve the same effect.
Photography blog: Oh Snap!
Book and writing blog: Never Wrong, Always Write
Travel blog: Love at First Flight
Baking blog: Baking the World a Better Place
Lifestyle blog: Extra Fries and Exercise
Life of Pai is a punny play on the title of the popular movie, Life of Pi , suggesting an adventurous and thought-provoking exploration of topics, akin to the movie's rich narrative and themes.
14. Include the name of a city, country or region
When blogging in a competitive industry, it can be good to differentiate yourself by becoming a regional expert in your topic. To help highlight your geographic presence, you can include a city or country name in your blog name.
Using a region in your blog name is also good because it can help your blog SEO . Suppose people are searching for travel bloggers that are experts in a specific destination they are planning to visit, that's when your blog can show up.
Lifestyle blog: Alice in Paris
Travel blog: Adventures in the Middle East
Personal blog: Katarina From Korea
Lifestyle blog: A Vegan in Portland
Fashion blog: Tel Aviv Fashionista
Food blog: Taste buds of Tokyo
15. Make up words
Let's begin by saying that we've followed our own advice when inventing the word Wix as our company name. Need more proof that random words can make a breakthrough? Ikea, Häagen-Dazs and Sony all don't mean anything but with great products, good marketing and branding, we all know who they are and what they offer.
Try to come up with some random words and ask your friends and family which sound like the best fit for a blog name.
When making up new words, do a quick check to see if they have any meanings in other languages.
16. Keep it easy to spell and pronounce
The easier to pronounce, the easier it will be for your audience to remember your domain name. For this reason, avoid using hyphens, dashes, and numbers. Also, stay away from homophones, or words pronounced the same but spelled like “board” and “bored" or “by” and “bye.”
You can test with your friends and family to see how easy your name is to pronounce it is to pronounce or spell.
Life As We Explore's blog name is simple and to the point. Readers understand that the blog will function as a travelogue.

17. Be purely descriptive (and remember the rule of three)
Describing the content of your blog in the name might seem obvious. However, it helps your readers instantly understand what you're all about. Being straightforward and to the point in a blog name is often appreciated by people who quickly need to find a specific type of blog.
Pet blog: All About Cats
Blogging blog: Blogging For Beginners
Religion blog: Daily Prayers and Passages
Music blog: Nashville Country Music Lovers
Haven Book Reviews aptly describes what readers can expect from their blog: To find a safe place in books. (This happens to be their tagline, as well.)
To simplify things further, you can list three words that describe what you’ll write about on your blog. A great example of this technique can be found in the book title Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. Let’s apply this rule of three to some blog name ideas:
Health and wellness blog: Yoga, Meditation and Mindfulness
Fitness blog: Gym, Sleep, Repeat
DIY craft blog : Sewing, Knitting and Other Crafts
Writing blog: Short Stories, Poems and Creative Writing
News blog: News, Gossip and Pop Culture
Lifestyle blog: Coffee, Clothes and My Camera
What makes a good blog name?
When you are coming up with a blog name, you’ll want to make sure that it’s memorable. One of the best ways to do that is to keep it short so that it’s easy to remember and type, even if someone only sees it once. With about 4.4 million new blog posts published every day across all platforms , it can be tough to stand out from the competition and make a name for yourself. Choose a blog name that is different from others in your niche so that people can easily identify you and come back.
You should also choose a blog name that reflects what you are blogging about. If you're blogging about personal finance, you won’t want to choose a name that relates the wrong message or has nothing to do with that. Choosing words that have to do with money or budgeting is the best way to communicate what your blog is about quickly.
Good blog names should also be brandable. If you have the perfect name but it’s already taken on social media, that might pose a problem for you later on down the line. Find a name that is easy to use as a domain name and social media handle so that people can find your blog. Remember that your blog name is your brand - it's what people will remember you by, so it's important to choose a name that you like and that represents your blog's content and personality.
Another potential factor to consider when choosing a blog name is that it helps if it’s search engine friendly. Try including relevant keywords that people are likely to search for if possible.
The 5 main attributes of good blog names are:
Relevance: Your blog name should be relevant to the topic of your blog. This will help potential readers understand what your blog is about and whether it is something they are interested in.
Memorable: Good blog names need to be memorable so that people will be more likely to find your blog again if they enjoy your content.
Unique: Your blog name should be unique and stand out from other blogs in your niche. This will help you to build a strong brand for your blog.
Easy to pronounce and spell: Make sure your blog name is easy to pronounce and spell. This will make it easier for people to share your blog name with others.
Available as a domain name: The blog name you choose needs to be available as a domain name. This will ensure that you can create a website for your blog using that name.

You’ve brainstormed with your friends, you’ve used the blog name generator, you’ve compiled a list of blog name ideas and blog name examples…and now it’s time for the moment of truth. You need to finalize your blog name so you can launch your blog.
However, there are a few final questions to ask yourself before making it official:
Is your blog name short and memorable?
People should be able to remember and spell your blog name easily, even if they only see it once. Keeping it simple and making sure people are able to tell what your blog is about just by hearing the name can help them remember it.
Is the domain name and social media handle available?
You can check the availability of a domain name by using a domain name checker . Imagine your blog name written with a .com (or the relevant extension) after it to make sure it looks and feels right to you.
As for social media, simply search for it on all available social media platforms to make sure your name isn’t taken.
Is the name search engine friendly?
If you want people to find your blog through search engines, make sure your name includes relevant keywords.
Is the name trademarked?
You can check if a name is trademarked by searching for it on the United States Patent and Trademark Office website.
Do I like the name?
This is probably the most important question of all. Do you like the way the name sounds? Does it represent your blog's content and personality? If you don't like the name, you're not going to be happy with it in the long run.
