Hof Kasselmann as a prominent venue for many events

As a centre of expertise for world-class sport Hof Kasselmann are predestined to play host to multiple international equestrian events. The in-house event agency Horses and Dreams Entertainment  is responsible for creating new event formats, organising championships and coordinating annual calendar highlights. .

Horses & Dreams

Every year in late April the top-calibre CDI/CSI 4-Star event, Horses & Dreams attracts up to 70,000 patrons to Hof Kasselmann to watch dressage and showjumping at the highest level. A unique aspect of the event is the addition of a guest country, whose culture and  characteristics define the theme and atmosphere every year. Horses & Dreams – a true family event.

Future Champions

The best pony riders, Children, Junior and Young Riders descend to Hof Kasselmann in mid-June to compete  in their respective dressage and jumping nations cups. It is the world’s largest event for young riders under 21 years of age and referred to as the ‘Aachen of the Youth’ for good reason.

Ankumer Dressage Club

The Ankumer Dressage Club have been running their annual dressage events at the P.S.I. Sport- and Auction Centre at the ‘See- und Sporthotel’ in Ankum since 2011. With four dates in spring and autumn respectively the Club utilises the indoor show season and offers members specific dressage classes not only for different age levels of horse and rider, but also for amateurs and professionals.

BEMER Riders Tour

Germany’s only international show jumping series, the BEMER Riders Tour  welcomed a new title sponsor in 2019, the Bemer Int. AG. Horses & Dreams at Hof Kasselmann traditionally kicks off the season and is followed by the ‘Pferdefestival Redefin’ and the ‘Deutsches Spring- & Dressurderby Hamburg’. The final is held at the VR Classics Neumünster.

Dressage & Jumping with the Stars

Based on the popular model of the national young horse championships in Warendorf, P.S.I. Dressage & Jumping with the Stars was created by P.S.I. and Hof Kasselmann to offer an opportunity to showcase the best young performance horses in Australia. The event derives its name from inviting top international dressage and jumping riders every year to ride and judge the young horse champions and also host a special masterclass in their discipline.

Qualifier for ‘Preis der Besten’

For some years now Germany’s best young riders under 21 years have come together at Hof Kasselmann, just before Horses & Dreams, to qualify in their respective age groups, Pony, Children, Junior and Young Riders, for the prestigious ‘Preis der Besten’ event in Warendorf.

Talks by the Fireplace

In the olden days generations of the Kasselmann family used to sit by the fireplace to discuss important topics and make qualified decisions. This inspired today’s ‘talks by the fireplace’, a very topical networking opportunity to connect the sport with sponsors, the private sector and politics. Host is the Horses & Dreams events team together with long-standing partner, PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) of Osnabrück.

2005 European Dressage Championships

Moscow, host of the European Championships, pulled out of the event at short notice following discrepancies with the World Equestrian Federation, FEI. Ullrich Kasselmann and Paul Schockemöhle jumped at the challenge and in just 14 days created a European Dressage Championship event that is still talked about.

2015 Dressage Nations Cup

In 2015 the world’s most successful dressage players met in Hagen a.T.W. for the CDIO Dressage Nations Cup, which is held only once a year. Aachen, as the traditional host of the Nations Cups, were already organising the European Championships in that year and not in a position to run both events. The German Equestrian Federation FN therefore awarded the event to Hof Kasselmann.

2016 U25 Dressage European Championships

In June 2016 Hof Kasselmann was the venue of the inaugural U25 European Championships event. The event attracted 41 horse and rider combinations, including nine teams and eight individual competitors from 14 nations. Athletes aged between 16 and 25 from  were able to compete in classes up to Grand Prix level.

2016 Global Dressage Forum

The Global Dressage Forum is the leading public debating platform in the world of international dressage. The world’s top riders’ and trainers’ techniques are scrutinised and examined in both practical and theoretical sessions. In October 2016 the Forum took place at Hof Kasselmann for the first time. Among others, guests included Jessica von Bredow Werndl, Isabell Werth and Monica Theodorescu.

(Gorla Minore) The Equieffe Equestrian Center in Gorla Minore, Italy, hosted the opening leg of the international show jumping series BEMER Young Riders Tour this weekend. A total of 62 young riders from 13 nations competed in the rating competition on Sunday afternoon, the Young Riders Grand Prix. The first ranking points of the 2023 season were at stake. Eleven combinations remained clear and reached the jump-off. No less than three riders from Switzerland finished in the top four and thus put an exclamation mark on their start to the BEMER Young Riders Tour season. First prize went to the 18-year-old Swiss rider Géraldine Straumann from Hofgut Kaltenherberge in the saddle of Casalor. Swiss riders Léon Pieyre with Verona V Z and Joana Schildknecht on Napoleon C took third and fourth place. Only the winning pair of Thursday’s qualification, Swede Ebba Danielsson and Equus Tame, were able to break the Swiss phalanx. However, even they could not come close to Straumann’s time of 39.89 seconds, which resulted in second place. The best German competitor was Johanna Beckmann in 16th place.  

Young talent from Basel

Géraldine Straumann has been riding since childhood and lives just a stone’s throw away from Basel. The daughter of Thomas Straumann, President of the Longines CHI Classics Basel, is already highly decorated in junior sport. In 2018, she represented her nation’s colours at the European Championships in Fontainebleau as a member of the Children’s Squad and won the Swiss Junior Championship in 2021. This year she has already impressed with clear rounds at the 5* Championships in Basel and Leipzig.  

The BEMER Young Riders Tour is making its second stop in Gorla Minore after 2022 and has clearly gained attention and prestige among the U21 generation. The jumping series for young riders creates a bridge to international senior sport and word has spread. So this weekend there were some familiar faces from the first season who now have the tour firmly on their season schedule. The three first-placed riders of the 2022 ranking, Matthis Westendarp (Wallenhorst), Elena Datti (ITA) and Aleksandra Kieznowska (POL) have shown the way, and this year there is again the chance to win starting places on the classic BEMER Riders Tour in the following season. PREVIEW | BEMER Cyclassics 2023 - World-class sprinter field battle for explosive German classic

Preview . On the 20th of August the peloton returns to Germany and it is via the World Tour one-day race of the BEMER Cyclassics , a race meant for the sprinters but also providing an opportunity for the classics specialists.

The route is 205 kilometers long, with the first two third almost completely flat through northern Germany. There isn’t too much to analyze, most riders will be looking to save their legs for the final third were the impact can be made on the race.

Profile & Route BEMER Cyclassics 2023

The main feature of the race will be the Waseberg, the race’s iconic steep hilltop, on the banks of the Elbe river. It is 1 kilometer long at 7%, not the hardest of hilltops but the gradients do ramp up to 16% in it’s middle. It’s a short and explosive climb, with a downhill run-in to the base, there will be on each occasion a heavy fight for positioning and inevitable attacks.

The climb summits with 67.5, 25 and 17 kilometers to go. The final two ascents will be separated by a very short distance, allowing for tactics and aggressive racing to develop. After going through them however, it will be a flat run-in back to the center of Hamburg and into a likely sprint.

TV Guide - Where and when to watch BEMER Cyclassics 2023

On this map is the final circuit the riders will race around Hamburg. However, when coming to the finish they will only ride the final 1.9 kilometers of it, hence skipping most of the technical sections. It won’t be a technical finale, however it is relatively narrow towards the end, positioning will be crucial and the gradients won’t have anything noteworthy.

The Weather

A slight western breeze. Not ultimately something which should decide the race as it won't be strong, but it will provide a tailwind all the way from the final climb to the finish. More chances for the attackers and a tailwind sprint.

The Sprinters

Mads Pedersen - Just off a successful Tour of Denmark and, let's face it, an incredibly successful season. Fourth at the World Championships and off the back of a Tour de France stage win and very strong spring classics campaign, the Dane still shows no signs of fatigue. It is remarkable how he's riding and in Germany he finds terrain very well suited to him, although it may not be hard enough to thin down the field until he's the man to beat.

Olav Kooij - Kooij has once again been showing a lot of speed this year and his recent Tour de Pologne win is evidence of current good form. The leader of Jumbo-Visma should not struggle in the climbs to match the peloton and in a sprint he will good chances.

Jonathan Milan - The Bahrain rider has not finished a race on the road since the Giro d'Italia. Moving away from the team at the end of the season, the motivation may not be as sharp right now as it was in May. He's raced on the Track at the World Championships but showed good level there, this is also the kind of day that will suit him well, specially with the tailwind sprint.

Dylan Groenewegen - Groenewegen surprised me positively at the Tour, where he climbed perhaps as well as he has ever done. This puts him in a good position in this classic, I think he can keep up with the front better and with team support he should be in the mix for a sprint. When it comes to the pure speed he will also have it covered.

Route Analysis | Profiles & Route Vuelta a Espana 2023

Arnaud De Lie - Just off victories at La Polynormande and Tour of Leuven, the Belgian is back in a good place. This type of classic is very much what he likes, as a few of the riders above he should handle the climbs quite well and then just has to rely on his and other teams to bring it back to a sprint. Surprisingly, he does not yet have a World Tour victory in his palmarès, this could be the one.

Soudal - Quick-Step - An interesting team. Tim Merlier comes in as the leader and in a pure sprint would be a big candidate. The climbs can make it a bit hard for him however, he's not the sharpest rider uphill. Hence the team is not solely relying on him for a result as Ethan Vernon provides a secondary option in case the Belgian cracks, whilst an in-form Stan van Tricht can well have free role to attack the race.

BORA - Several weapons in the home team's arsenal. Nils Politt and Max Schachmann will be dangerous riders who can go on the attack, as is Marco Haller who beat Wout van Aert here last year from an attacking group early on. However the team's hopes will rely more in a sprint surely as Sam Bennett comes in, but Danny van Poppel will also be an alternative in case the Irishman struggles.

This set of riders is already impressive but we do not end there. One of the few sprinter-guided World Tour classics in the season, it has lured in huge amounts of fast men. Among them will be some who can climb and will hope for a hard race such as Ethan Hayter, Alex Aranburu, Marius Mayrhofer and Corbin Strong. However we've got options for a pure sprint too in Cees Bol, Max Walscheid, Jake Stewart, Elia Viviani, Arnaud Démare and Giacomo Nizzolo .

The Classics Specialists

UAE Team Emirates - The UAE team have Pascal Ackermann who is a completely viable option for a sprint but their strength lies in their depth and quality of classics riders. Tim Wellens, Marc Hirschi, Diego Ulissi, Alessandro Covi and Brandon McNulty constitute a quintet where realistically all of them can take a victory in the right circumstances, but above all their strength means they can attack a lot and from far, boosting the chances of an escapee group to succeed.

Other riders who I expect to see on the attack, and will not really have a sprinter holding them down will include Alberto Bettiol who's just off a magnificent World Championships race, but also Quinten Hermans, Georg Zimmermann and Anthony Turgis .
