Go beyond the status quo as a Medallion Member. With Delta’s Corporate Status Match Challenge, eligible business travelers* who have elite status with another airline can enjoy Complimentary Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Status for a 6-month period. Complimentary Status will be granted based on the equivalent status with another airline.

Want to extend your Medallion Status? Keep it through January 31, 2026 (end of the 2025 Medallion Year), by earning the required amount  of Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) during the 3-month challenge period.

Here's How It Works

3. Check Your Inbox:  Keep an eye out for an enrollment confirmation email, followed by a request update email. If approved, you'll be matched to Platinum, Gold, or Silver Medallion Status for 6 months based on your elite status with another airline. If not approved, you will be notified of the reason and any necessary actions to take.**

4. Keep Earning to Extend Your Status:  Extend your Medallion Status  through January 31, 2026, by completing the Challenge requirements  within 3 months of enrollment.

Earn within 3 months to extend status

*To be eligible for the Corporate Status Match, a traveler must have flown on a ticket purchased via a qualified authorized company channels within the past 12 months or have a booked ticket within 90 days of enrollment and be associated with the company’s corporate travel arrangement with Delta.**Qualifying Status Match recipients will earn equal or lower Medallion Status than their matched status with another airline, as determined by Delta.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS EFFECTIVE FOR ENROLLMENTS ON OR AFTER JANUARY 1, 2024

Status Match Offer and Eligibility: Delta Air Lines (“Delta”) is offering Corporate Travelers who are elite members of another airline’s frequent flyer program an opportunity to match their status on such other airline to Platinum, Gold, or Silver Medallion Status (“Status Match”) for 6 months. Complimentary Platinum, Gold or Silver Medallion Status will be granted based on the equivalent status with another airline (as determined by Delta at its sole discretion). To be eligible for the Status Match promotion, a member must (a) be an active Eligible Traveler (as defined in the CSA or MSA, as applicable) at a participating company that has an active Corporate Sales Agreement (“CSA”) or Mid-market Sales Agreement (“MSA”) in place with Delta, and (b) have traveled on a Delta-marketed ticket (excluding Basic Economy fares) booked through a company booking tool, tagged with the company ticket designator, within the past 12 months or have booked travel within 90 days of request submission for Status Match (the “Corporate Travel Requirement”). Members who have not satisfied the Corporate Travel Requirement do not qualify for the promotion. Promotional, temporary, and complimentary elite status (including earned status through any promotional or status match program) on other airlines will not be eligible for this Status Match promotion. This offer is not available to travelers who previously or currently enrolled in a corporate accelerated Medallion Status offer or travelers who have participated in any Medallion Status promotion such as a Status Match Challenge or Reclaim My Status in 2022, 2023, or 2024.

Please note that while the system allows any Member to enroll, only eligible Members will qualify and receive the benefits under this offer. SkyMiles Members must first register online for participation in the offer by December 31, 2024 (ending 11:59:59 PM, U.S. CDT on 12/31/2024). Promotional registration is required before complimentary Medallion Status will be rewarded. During the complimentary Status period, you will not have access to Choice Benefits, unless you earn Medallion Status through the published requirements at delta.com. Medallion Status must be earned in subsequent years by earning the required Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs).

Status Extension Offer and Eligibility: Corporate travelers who wish to extend the complimentary Medallion Status earned through Status Match may do so by earning the required amount of Medallion Qualification Dollars (MQDs) for that Medallion Status category within 3 months after enrollment in Status Match: $1,250 MQDs for Silver Medallion Status, $2,500 MQDs for Gold Medallion Status, and $3,750 MQDs for Platinum Medallion Status (“Challenge”). See the Qualifying Activity Section below to determine how you can earn MQDs for this Challenge. If these requirements are not met, your Medallion Status will return to the applicable Status you qualified for during the Medallion Year after your complimentary Status ends. For example, if you enroll in the challenge in 2024, and are given complimentary Platinum Medallion Status (held Silver Medallion Status prior to enrolling in the Challenge), and you complete the MQD earn requirement ($3,750 MQDs) within 3 months of enrollment in Status Match, your Platinum Medallion Status will be extended through January 31, 2026 (the end of the 2025 Medallion Year). If you do not complete the MQD earn requirement within 3 months of enrollment in Status Match, your Medallion Status will revert to Silver Medallion Status after the 6-month complimentary Status Match window ends. Members who earn Platinum, Gold, or Silver Medallion Status beyond the 6-month period through this Challenge will be updated in the system within 15 business days of accumulating the required amount of MQDs. Members who successfully complete this Challenge are eligible for Choice Benefits for Platinum Medallion Status only.

Qualifying Activity Offer to extend complimentary Medallion Status earned through the Challenge must be completed within three months from enrollment in Status Match and will not include MQDs earned prior to enrollment in Status Match or after the account upgrade in connection with Status Match. Participation does not guarantee Medallion Status. Matched Status will expire at the end of the 6-month complimentary period unless that level or a higher level of Medallion Status is awarded prior to that date based on the requirements listed above in connection with the Challenge. Additional activities to earn MQDs include Delta and Partner flights (excluding Basic Economy tickets), use of qualifying Delta SkyMiles® Platinum American Express Card, or Delta SkyMiles® Reserve American Express Card, and Delta Vacation packages. MQDs earned from MQD HeadStart using an eligible Delta SkyMiles® American Express Card will not apply towards required MQDs for the Status Match offer, even if the eligible card is acquired during the Offer Period.

How Delta Makes It Easier for Families to Sit Together

The airline rolled out a feature — just before the pandemic — that blocks off certain rows on a seat map in the main cabin so only groups of three or more people traveling together can book them.

delta airlines group travel request

Delta Air Lines is making it easier for families and larger groups to sit together with dynamic seat maps that block certain rows for larger parties, the airline shared with Travel + Leisure .

The booking feature, which the airline started rolling out prior to the pandemic in 2019, blocks off certain rows on a seat map in the main cabin so only groups of three or more people traveling together can book them. To see these seats as available at the time of purchase, the group must be traveling together on the same reservation.

"Being a customer-centric brand means we're constantly working to offer optimal experiences across travel," a spokesman for Delta , told T+L. "Taking a dynamic approach with our seat map displays is one way of doing that by providing preferred seating choices in all cabins – at the time of booking or at the gate when working with an agent – for customers traveling alone or with a group."

The number of rows that are blocked off will vary from aircraft to aircraft and is based on historical booking and seat assignment data, the spokesperson noted.

However, while most individuals or smaller groups would not be able to book those rows at the time of purchase, top elite SkyMiles members — those who have platinum or diamond status — are able to choose those seats, regardless of the number of people on their booking.

You Can Now Earn Major Delta SkyMiles by Using This Car Rental App

Delta has made changes to its SkyMiles program in recent months, allowing travelers to earn points on everything from groceries with Instacart to car rentals with peer-to-peer car-sharing service Turo . In December, however, the airline stopped allowing passengers to earn SkyMiles or elite status on basic economy fares .

And in January, Delta extended its eCredits and will allow anyone who purchases any new ticket in 2022 to rebook that ticket through the end of 2023 and travel in 2024.

All passengers entering/departing the U.S. by air are required to have this information transmitted to U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP), allowing U.S. CBP to review all passenger data in advance of the flight's arrival. All international flights arriving and departing the U.S. are required by law to provide API data. API data is also transmitted to Customs and Immigration Officials in all other countries when required by law.

Booking flights for groups

Booking Flights for Groups: What You Need to Know

Group flights have become an increasingly popular option for travelers looking to explore the world together with friends, family members, or colleagues. These flights are specifically designed for groups of 10 or more, offering unique benefits such as discounted airfare and more.

These are beneficial for large groups such as family reunions, student trips, business retreats, and even sports events. In addition, they can also provide an enhanced, stress-free travel experience to group members.

If you’re living in the United States, you’ll find several major airlines offer services on booking flights for groups, with a dedicated team ready to help with flight bookings, itinerary planning, and special requests. Delta Air Lines, JetBlue, United, and American Airlines are among the carriers that extend their group travel options to reduce the complexities involved in coordinating group trips. These airlines often provide exclusive amenities and tailored services to ensure a comfortable, enjoyable journey for all participants.

Here’s a guide on booking flights for groups for those looking to embark on a shared travel adventure!

Cost savings

Flexibility, easy planning, who are best suited for group flights, use a travel agency, book in advance, prepare the group’s information, united airlines, american airlines, delta airlines, southwest airlines, special pricing and discounts, fare rules and deposits, name changes and flexibility, fees and charges, group contract and policies, getting a quote, group booking for flights: pros and cons.

Booking flights for groups

Group flights refer to a travel arrangement in which a group of individuals fly together on the same flight with a common destination. Typically, airlines consider a group as 10 or more passengers traveling together. These groups can include families, friends, corporate teams, or even event attendees who require similar flight itineraries.

Here are the main benefits of group booking for flights:

One of the primary benefits of group flights is the possibility of special pricing and flexible payment options. Depending on the airline, groups of 10 or more might be eligible for discounted fares as well as other considerations such as priority boarding or reserved seating.

For instance, American Airlines guarantees fare rates for groups of 10 or more, allowing booking up to 11 months in advance and making name changes up to 48 hours before departure. Southwest is known for offering impressive amenities to group travelers, including special discounts and versatile payment options.

Group flights also tend to have more flexible terms and conditions, which can be particularly beneficial for large groups such as business retreats, family reunions, or student trips. For instance, some airlines may allow you to hold seats without specifying the travelers’ names immediately, providing added convenience and flexibility.

Another advantage of group flights comes from the convenience factor. Organizing group travel can often involve coordinating multiple, complicated logistics. This can be streamlined by working with travel agents or specialized platforms that cater to group travel booking. These professionals can handle all the arrangements and ensure that everyone in the group arrives at their destination safely and on time.

  • Higher individual costs : It’s important to note that getting a group deal from an airline is not always the cheapest option — the airfare per flight on a group booking deal can sometimes be higher. Therefore, it’s advisable to compare prices before making a decision.
  • Limited flight options : Group bookings may limit your flight options as airlines often have specific flights designated for group travel.
  • Inflexibility: Changes in group bookings can be challenging. For example, if one person in the group cancels, it might affect the entire group’s booking or rate.
  • Payment complexity: Coordinating payments among a large group can be complicated and time-consuming.

Group flight booking

Booking flights for groups is an excellent choice for various occasions and situations. They offer numerous benefits ranging from better coordination to specialized deals and pricing.

In this section, we’ll explore the advantages of group flights especially for certain passenger groups:

  • Group Trips : Group flights present the perfect solution for group trips, such as family reunions, friends’ vacations, or organized tours. By booking flights together, everyone in the group can be accommodated on the same flight, reducing the risk of individuals being split across different flights. Furthermore, group flights provide a sense of companionship and enhance the overall travel experience.
  • Meetings : Business meetings, conferences, and corporate events can benefit from group flights, as they allow for coordinated travel. This ensures that all attendees arrive at the destination simultaneously for better time management and organization. Additionally, airlines such as United Airlines offer tailored pricing and services for groups of ten or more, which can result in savings for businesses.
  • Sports Teams : Group flights prove to be a cost-effective and convenient choice for sports teams. The team members can travel together, ensuring everyone’s schedule aligns, and the camaraderie amongst the team is maintained. Moreover, specialized group-based deals or discounts may be available, further reducing the costs of travel for team events and competitions.

Group flights offer numerous benefits to those who choose them. They allow for better coordination, potential cost savings, and strengthen the sense of unity and camaraderie among group members, making them an optimal choice for sports teams, meetings, and group trips.

Tips when booking group flights

When booking group flights, the easiest way is to call an airline directly. Airlines often have a specialized department that handles group bookings. However, dealing with this can be cumbersome, in which case you may opt to book thru a travel agency instead.

A travel agency can help you save a lot of time and money especially for large groups.

When planning group travel, it’s essential to book flights well in advance. Airlines often allow you to reserve group tickets up to 11 months prior to your desired travel date. This ensures that your group has access to the best possible fares and seat availability.

Take note that during peak travel periods, such as major holidays and popular vacation seasons, group flight availability may be limited. To increase the chance of securing seats and favorable fares for all group members, book flights as early as possible during these busy times.

Before booking for a group flight, prepare the group members’ information and documents in advance so you’re not scrambling during the process.

Once all group details are finalized and deposits have been paid, the airline will issue electronic tickets for each group member. Be sure to verify all passenger information, flight details, and travel itinerary before the ticketing deadline to avoid any last-minute surprises.

For international travels, each group member should individually ensure they meet the entry requirements for their destination, and it may be helpful to compile a list of necessary documents and vaccinations in advance to streamline the process for everyone.

Group flight experiences with different airlines

Flights

United Airlines offers a Group Desk service for group bookings of 10 or more passengers. The airline provides a dedicated group coordinator to assist with booking and travel arrangements.

The group booking experience includes options like flexible ticketing, priority boarding, and discounted fares.

United offers various amenities and services for groups, aiming to provide the best experience at the lowest price. Their GroupPlus program gives access to exclusive products and services tailored for group travel needs.

For groups of 10 or more, American Airlines offers Group Travel services. Their group travel experience includes fare discounts, flexible payment options, and dedicated support from their group specialists.

American Airlines provides various incentives, such as granting one free ticket for every 40 passengers booked.

With their customer-centric approach, they ensure a comfortable and convenient trip with their range of in-flight amenities and seamless group travel management.

Delta Airlines caters to group bookings with their Group Travel program, designed for groups of 10 or more. Their program offers flexible pricing options, dedicated customer service, and access to various amenities.

With Delta, it’s possible to secure seats at the lowest available price and receive incentives like one free ticket for every 30 confirmed passengers.

In addition to customized contracts for group travel, the airline provides an easy process for coordinating the group’s needs and preferences.

Southwest Airlines focuses on affordability and convenience for group travel bookings. They accommodate groups of 10 passengers or more with their Group Travel program, featuring negotiated rates, simple booking processes, and dedicated support.

Southwest offers a flexible experience with added benefits such as no change fees, unlimited reward seats, and reusable travel funds for canceled flights.

The airline also prioritizes group accessibility to their many amenities, such as ample legroom and free in-flight entertainment, ensuring a comfortable and pleasant flight experience.

Additional considerations

Here are the things you should familiarize yourself with when doing group bookings for flights:

Airlines often offer special pricing and discounts for group bookings. Group pricing usually results in savings compared to individual ticket prices, allowing your group to travel more cost-effectively. Additionally, some airlines may provide additional perks, like upgrades or priority boarding, based on group size and travel needs.

When booking group flights, be sure to remain informed about the specific fare rules and deposit requirements. Each airline has its own policies and the minimum number of passengers required to qualify for group fares. In order to secure these fares, you may be asked to pay a deposit. This deposit can vary based on factors such as destination, group size, and other potential restrictions.

Group bookings often come with added flexibility in terms of name changes and cancellations. It’s not uncommon for airlines to offer at least one free name change per ticket, which can be particularly helpful in case any group members need to cancel or alter their travel plans. Be sure to familiarize yourself with the specific change fees and cancellation policies for the airline you’ve chosen.

It’s important to be aware of the fees and charges associated with booking group flights. These may include booking fees, taxes, or any additional charges for services like baggage, seat assignments, and in-flight amenities.

Make sure to review the terms and conditions while planning, and communicate any applicable charges to group members in advance, particularly if they are responsible for handling individual payments.

When booking group travel, a group contract may be provided by the airline, outlining specific terms and policies for your flights. This may include information on payment deadlines, reservation changes, or cancellation penalties. It’s crucial to carefully review the contract and its corresponding policies to ensure a seamless and trouble-free experience for the entire group.

To obtain an accurate quote for your group flight, consider utilizing the services of a dedicated travel agency like Golden Rule Travel that specializes in group airfare. Provide details such as travel dates, destinations, and desired number of tickets, and be sure to inquire about any potential group discounts or bulk rates.

Group flights have lots of benefits. We hope this article on group booking for flights helped you in deciding whether you should book individually or as a group for a trip.

How to reach Delta Air Lines customer service

Understand what delta customer service can help with, change your itinerary online, know which flights qualify for cash refunds, the bottom line.

In this era of flight changes and cancellations, airline customer service representatives have their work cut out for them.

If you’re planning to travel with Delta Air Lines and need support, here are key tips for successfully contacting Delta customer service and getting the help you need.

» Learn more: The complete guide to Delta Air Lines SkyMiles

When you need help with your Delta flight, there are several ways to reach out.

Call Delta customer service on the phone

Want to speak with a live Delta agent about a reservation? Call the customer service number for Delta Air Lines at 800-221-1212. For SkyMiles-related questions, call 800-323-2323 and have your SkyMiles number handy.

Gold and Silver Medallion members get priority when calling either Delta customer service phone number. But Delta Platinum and Diamond Medallion members get top priority customer service. These top-tier elites can call the dedicated phone line found in the Contact Us section of the Fly Delta phone app or on the back of your membership card.

Tweet @Delta for help

If repetitive hold music isn’t your jam, then we recommend posting your question on Twitter and tagging Delta with the handle @Delta, or you can send a Twitter direct message to that account. You might reach the airline quicker by tweeting at it instead of calling it.

Chat live on an Apple or Android device

On the go? You can chat live with Delta on an Apple or Android device. Just go to the Need Help? page on delta.com and click on the “Message Us” button. A window will pop up inviting you to chat with a virtual assistant.

This can be helpful for addressing common problems like adding a SkyMiles number to a reservation or making other small changes. And it can be faster than waiting for a phone agent or social media representative.

delta airlines group travel request

If you have to cancel your Delta flight or request a refund, a customer service rep can be a lifesaver. Can’t or don’t want to select your seat online? A Delta rep can help with that, too. Plus, you can rely on Delta customer service for any question not easily answered on their website — be it about baggage allowances or SkyMiles redemptions.

If you used SkyMiles to book a flight on a SkyTeam partner airline, you can call Delta to get the record locator for your ticket that will let you select your seat or manage your booking directly through the other airline.

However, calling isn’t the only way to get specific issues resolved.

Most changes and cancellations can be made online (see section below).

To file a baggage claim, use this online form .

To request miles from a trip or a partner activity, log in to your SkyMiles account and fill out a mileage credit request form.

To provide general feedback or to fill out a complaint, go to Feedback & Complaints .

Gone are the days when calling the airline was the only way to make changes to your itinerary. Delta supports most changes and cancellations through its website and app. Here’s how:

Locate the confirmation number in your reservation email and enter it at Delta.com to pull up the booking. Alternatively, you can navigate to the “My Trips” section in your Delta SkyMiles account and click on the trip you’d like to change.

Click on the red “Modify Flight” button in the top right corner.

Then, you’ll be given a choice of whether you would like to change the flight or cancel. Select the “Start Flight Change” option.

This change screen option shows all the flights included in the particular reservation; you’ll need to select the flight or flights you wish to change by checking the box next to the flight.

Click “Find New Flights” to advance to the next page.

At this step, all of your new flight options will appear and you'll select the flight you’d like to change it to and the amount you paid for the existing ticket will be applied to the cost of the new ticket price. You will either have to pay the balance as usual or you’ll receive a refund or an eCredit for the fare difference depending on the type of ticket originally booked.

For questions about Delta Vacations, visit this page . For baggage policies, this page may be of help.

» Learn more: Which Delta Air Lines credit card should you get?

If you want to cancel a nonrefundable ticket after the 24-hour grace period, you won’t get a refund to your original form of payment, but you will get an eCredit you can apply toward a future flight . If your new flight costs more, you’ll have to pay the difference in ticket price.

If you want to change or cancel a flight originating in the U.S. that you booked with SkyMiles, you can do so without fees.

To cancel or change a Delta flight, log in to your SkyMiles account, go to My Trips, select a flight you wish to cancel and click on “Modify Flights” at any point before your flight. In some cases, you’ll have to call (with basic economy tickets, for example). But in most cases, you should be able to change or cancel your flight online or in the Fly Delta app.

» Learn more: Plan your next SkyMiles redemption for your dream trip — Here's how

No matter the question, you should be able to find answers if you search online or call the airline for help.

Thanks to a no-fee change policy, even flight changes and cancellations can be done on the website without having to speak to anyone, and e-credits are issued automatically.

Still, Delta reps are just a phone call or text message away in case of more complicated requests. For less urgent questions, head to Twitter.

Delta-issued Transportation Credit Vouchers (TCV), Electronic Credit Voucher (ECV/E-TCV), Miscellaneous Charge Order (MCO), Delta Transportation Vouchers (DTV), Electronic Denied Compensation Credit or eGifts and Gift Cards will only be accepted as payment toward a Delta Vacations package that includes airfare.

Yes, you can. Simply call the Delta Vacations Customer Engagement Center at 1-800-800-1504 to redeem your Electronic Denied Compensation Credit. Please check your credit for full details.

Many airlines assess a fee for checked luggage. These fees are payable directly to the airline and are therefore not included in the Delta Vacations package price. Travelers with two separate tickets issued on two separate airlines should check each of the ticketing carrier’s specific baggage rules and will apply to each ticket. Travelers with flights on separate tickets will need to claim and recheck their bags and pay any imposed baggage fees to the operating carrier while in transit. Delta Air Lines baggage fees can be found on our site. You can also view the baggage fees for the various airlines used in conjunction with Delta Vacations packages.

Domestic Travel

All passengers 18 years of age or older are required to present one form of government-issued photo ID (such as a valid driver's license). Beginning May 7, 2025, you will need a state-issued REAL ID-compliant license or identification card, or another acceptable form of ID (such as a passport), to fly within the United States. Please visit tsa.gov , opens in a new window for a list of acceptable forms of ID and additional information regarding REAL ID.

Alternatively, passengers may present two forms of non-photo identification before boarding a flight. One must be a state or federal agency-issued ID (such as a U.S. Social Security card). Failure to present positive identification can result in denied boarding, and no refunds will be granted.
