“What a fantastic day! It was amazing being able to try 3 different wineries. Most were red wine (which I’m not a fan of, but actually very much enjoyed on this trip) but there were also a few white wines. Lunch was awesome. Personally, the trip was little long, so I would recommend doing the shorter trip (everyone started getting car sick to some degree with all of the hills). But, the tour guide did a great job and I would definitely recommend this activity.” Matalin ( read more reviews now )

“It was sensational. Fantastic guide, very good and comfortable transport. Short journey (45min) to the first winery and then the second is very close. Winery 1. Cheeses and breads with wonderful vinegars and oils + 4 wines (just the bottom of the glass). Winery 2. Cheeses, cold cuts and sausages, and bread + 5 wines (just the bottom of the glass). Possibility to buy wines, oils and vinegars on the tour. I thought the amount of wine was good, enough to make me neither sober nor drunk. I recommend going at the beginning of the trip, because if you make friends, they can be company for the next few days.” Rodrigo ( read more reviews now )

Continue to the second winery and sample a variety of wines and olive oils that are perfectly paired with local cheese, bruschetta, salami, and more. Seriously yummy food to say the least.

“Barbara and Armando executed their roles admirably, ensuring seamless coordination throughout the tour. Navigating three major cities and historic sites was a pleasure, thanks to their competence. Barbara, our patient tour guide, adeptly managed the challenges posed by tardy and irresponsible attendees, displaying a commendable level of professionalism. Despite a few hiccups caused by irresponsible passengers, all individuals eventually boarded, and the return journey transpired without incident. The experience, albeit dramatic at times, was salvaged by Barbara’s unwavering professionalism. The driver’s exceptional skills contributed to a smooth and enjoyable ride. On the downside, the light lunch provided fell short of expectations. Regrettably, it resembled more of a simple snack with a sample wine tasting, and did not meet our culinary preferences. Nevertheless, the overall value derived from the expenditure was undeniably worthwhile.” Sam ( read more reviews now )

Afterward, stop to admire some panoramic views of Chianti before heading to Siena. Here, your guide will introduce you to Piazza del Campo and the cathedral.

You’ll then have free time to eat some panforte and shop for souvenirs before returning to Florence as the sun sets in the background.

We had an absolutely amazing time on this excursion. Bella and her father were wonderful hosts and clearly love their Fiat 500 family. The cars were so much fun to drive and we spent so much time driving through Tuscany that you felt like you were back in the old days of Italy. Everything was very relaxed, fun, energetic and as professional as it gets. The lunch and wine tasting was a blast. We learned so much history and tasted some great wines. We even left with a bottle of wine because it was that good… Do yourself a favor and book this excursion. If we ever make it back to Florence, I’m booking this again! 13 BEST Wine Tours from Florence (by a Local)

By: Author Stefania Guglielmi

Posted on Last updated: July 11, 2024

Categories Europe , Italy

Florence, the Renaissance city and capital of the Tuscan region , is primarily known for its artistic and cultural heritage. But its traditional cuisine and local wines are equally cherished.

It’s Tuscany we’re talking about, after all – a synonym for vineyards situated on rolling hills , hilltop towns with local wineries, and the word Chianti .

The closeness between the city and the wine region makes it incredibly easy to visit on a day trip. It’s definitely an activity to include in your Florence itinerary .

A woman smiling as she reaches for a grape in a vine

I was born and raised in Bologna, merely an hour north of Florence, and I have visited countless times throughout the years.

Not only would I claim to know the city almost as much as my own, but I’ve also explored the Tuscan countryside extensively and developed a keen palate for regional wines.

As an Italian, I highly recommend a trip to the lush vineyards and wineries of Tuscany . It enables you to see jaw-dropping landscapes as you delve into the world of viniculture.

Learn everything about the process of winemaking, and indulge in delicious tastings . If you’re a wine-lover and happen to be in Florence, you simply can’t miss the experience.

The reason I suggest you join a wine tour is that it takes off the pressure of choosing a designated driver . Besides, the company will handle the reservations and find the best wineries for you to visit.

In this article, I’ve compiled the very best wine tours from Florence for you to check out. Read on, and take your pick!

Why should you trust my picks? Besides being a native of the region, who’s been to Tuscany a great number of times, I have +10 years of experience curating tours in Italy. I have hand-picked only top-rated, good-value activities to ensure you have a memorable time.

I usually use and recommend Viator and Get Your Guide for booking tours around the world. Not only do they offer high-quality tours, but both platforms also have a great cancellation policy. If you need to change your plans, you can cancel most tours up to 24 hours in advance for a full refund.

OUR PICK: The BEST Wine Tour from Florence

The Chianti Safari: Tuscan Villas with vineyards, Cheese, Wine & Lunch from Florence is our top pick. This full-day tour takes you on a 4×4 ATV, the perfect vehicle for exploring the winding roads and hills.

You’ll travel through the scenic landscapes of the countryside, and visit a wine estate and a historic villa. Explore its cellars and the olive mill through underground tunnels, and taste three wines with appetizers.

Then, head to a Tuscan winery restaurant for a scrumptious meal and more wine surrounded by glorious views. End the trip at a Chianti Classico vineyard, where you’ll learn (and taste!) all about this famous Italian wine.

The small winery has two award-winning wines that you’ll get to sample before returning to Florence.

Why this tour? For starters, it has close to 3 thousand perfect reviews. It’s very generous with the wine tastings, taking you to three different locations to taste the local product.

That also means you’ll have the chance to witness the scope of wineries available in the region. You’ll visit an established location, a local restaurant, and a smaller vineyard. It’s comprehensive, insightful, and utterly enjoyable.

Read what the reviews say :

“Chianti Safari is a MUST DO! We had an incredible experience. Lavie is extremely knowledgeable about the area and the wine making process. We have never done anything like this and I would 1000% do it again. This shows you Tuscany from a whole new view. You truly can’t even express the breathtaking views!” Sarah_A – Read more reviews

Wine tasting of Nobile di Montepulciano DOCG

Viator’s error was our WIN! We were emailed a cancellation and started to look for other wine tour- lucky for us we found Andrea and this spectacular tour of the region, 2 vineyards, a beautiful lunch and a walking tour of Montepulciano. We were also fortunate to be the only ones on our tour, but I have no doubt Andrea would have been equally attentive to more guests. He was incredibly knowledgeable, personable and made the day a delight! I highly recommend asking for him if you are interested in this region, their grapes and their beautiful wines. You will not be sorry!

What a fabulous day! We spent the entire day yesterday touring wineries around Montepulciano...Le Berne, Romeo, and Godiolo. We got a far more detailed look at winemaking than any other tour or tasting we have ever been on. We met the families, tasted fabulous wines and learned about the local winemaking traditions/philosophies. Our guide was as interesting as he was gracious and very very funny. We shipped a few hidden gems home to our friends and took some home to drink before we leave. If you've never been to Montepulciano, it is one of the most beautiful small towns I have ever seen. It is where "Under the Tuscan Sun" was filmed. It is a two-hour drive outside Florence, but if you have the time, it is worth every minute of the drive. At the pick-up point, we met some people who had done the truffle hunting tour. They were so excited about their experiences, we booked a second tour with Italy and Wine! We can not wait. This is a great tour company and a fabulous way to spend a day in Florence!!

Matteo was an excellent and insightful tour guide through the wines of Montepulciano. Add in a historic walk through the center of town and it was a tour I highly recommend.

Italy and Wine is absolutely the best place to go for an in depth tour of Tuscan wines. Our tour of Vino Nobile di Montepulciano featured tastings at three wineries with an amazing lunch prepared and paired with outstanding wines. Fabian, a trained sommelier, was highly knowledgeable, personable and explained each tasting and what to look for in exquisite detail. The day was a feast for the senses topped off with a 10 minute walk around the ancient hill town of Montepulciano featuring breathtakingly beautiful vistas of the Tuscan countryside. The price is well worth the experience. Highly recommended for all levels of wine enthusiasts.

SMALL GROUP TOURS

Private tours, chianti wine tasting tours.

Being one of the real gems of not only Tuscany, but the whole of Italy, the Chianti region will touch your heart as soon as you enter this marvelous territory. Chianti Classico wine has made this place world-famous, but it’s very wrong to think that Chianti is only about wine. On its rolling hills olive groves and forests are harmoniously balanced with the neat vineyards creating a unique composition you will not see anywhere else in the world, and you can enjoy it all on your private or small group Chianti wine tour.

Chianti Wine and Food Tasting Day Tours

The Chianti Wine Region is a larger district that encloses the area between three provinces: Florence, Siena and Arezzo. But we take pride in inviting you to the area of Chianti Classico, the very heart of the Chianti wines production, associated with its logo, the Black Rooster. The history of winemaking here started over 2000 years ago by the Etruscans. Since the 1500’s the Chianti area had already received remarkable recognition as a wine region. Later in the 18th century the Grand Duke Cosimo III de’ Medici defined for the first time in the world the first a Appellation of Origin with exact borders and zoning, principles which were not changed since then.

Classified as a DOCG wine this ruby drink has its certain characteristics thanks to specific requirements to the production process that only if respected allow the winemakers label their wines Chianti Classico. The wine is a blend of 80% Sangiovese and 20% of other grapes among which can be typical of this area Canailo and Colorino or such renowned grapes as Merlot or Cabernet Sauvignon. The wine and food tasting experience in this marvelous part of Tuscany is something to be gone through when coming here.

Reviews about us

Me and my group were extremely happy with every tour. We used Tuscany wine tours twice during our May trip. The drivers were very kind and hospitable throughout the time together, they were helpful in giving us information and setting up lunches and wine tasting. Our experience with this company was 5*. Everything was just great and wouldn’t change a thing.

We had a very tight schedule for our only day in Tuscany and Tuscany wine tours was our only hope to allow us to visit the Chianti for a few hours and get to our cruise ship in Livorno later in the day. We had a group of 5 people and had reserved the minivan. This company truly made our single day in Tuscany perfect literally. I truly felt spoiled and will use them again if the opportunity arises.

Thank you for all the accommodations and last minute changes/requests. You made our vacation easy and stress free. We have fallen in love with Tuscany and we would recommend your services to anyone visiting Italy! And when my family and I come back, I will be sure to use your services again. Thank you for everything!

Chauffeured Tours in Chianti

No matter if you hire a private driver for your Chianti wine tasting or join a small group we will take you to 2-4 wineries located in Greve, Castellina or Radda where you will enjoy top quality Chianti wines paired with the traditional specialties. Delicious lunch is included and going to be provided by one of the wineries to be visited. To the real wine lovers going for a private wine tour in Chianti we are ready to provide a chauffeur-cum-sommelier that will make your day trip very informative and interesting. If you decide to visit other places in Tuscany such as San Gimignano, Siena, Monteriggioni etc. we would suggest you hire a Driver Guide who will accompany you anywhere you want to go acting as a local guide. Chianti countryside is full of perfectly preserved ancient stone farm houses, medieval hilltop towns and stunning castles with their unique history and charm specific for this area. All our specialists are fully licensed and fluent in English.

Full - Day Grape Tour to Fall in Love with Chianti

Being a real jewel of Tuscan countryside, Chianti Classico wine region is much more than just a historic world-famous wine production area of Italy. Thanks to the strict legislation that prohibits the construction of new buildings or redesign of the agricultural lands as well as the industrial deforestation, the landscapes here have been conserved for centuries and remained untouched since…. Visiting this territory is like travelling back in time: same rolling hills, neat vineyards, stone farm houses, mighty castles that pleased the eye of Tuscan Rulers are ready to welcome you on your small group or private Chianti wine tour. Combined with the fine wine and local specialties tasting this experience will make you fall in love in this land.
