Sharing is caring!

If you’re planning a Bermuda cruise, you’re in luck! Bermuda is an island with a rich history, friendly people and genuine pink sand beaches!

After cruising to Bermuda several times, I’ve put together a list of the very best things to do in Bermuda on a cruise. Whether you are looking for family-friendly activities, Bermuda beach excursions or something off the beaten path, these must-see Bermuda attractions won’t disappoint!

In this guide, I’ve included some useful Bermuda tips and information you need to know about this popular cruise destination, including how to get around and explore on your own.

Why Cruise to Bermuda?

The island of Bermuda has become a popular cruise destination for numerous reasons. A self governing British Overseas Territory, Bermuda has a comfortable sub-tropical climate. A misconception is that Bermuda is located in the Caribbean. However, Bermuda’s location is just 700 miles away from North Carolina, in the Atlantic ocean.

Convenient North-East Departures

Bermuda cruises have North East departures leaving from New York, New Jersey, Boston and Baltimore. This is a convenient for many Americans and Canadians who like to drive to their port or have a short flight.

Overnights in Bermuda

Many cruises to Bermuda offer overnight stays (2-3 days in Bermuda), allowing time for excursions to pink sand beaches, world renowned golf courses, and a Unesco World Heritage Site.

Options for Cruise Lines and Cruise Ships

There are many cruise ships that sail to Bermuda, from large cruise ships that dock in Royal Naval Dockyard, to smaller ships that may dock in Hamilton or St. George.

Celebrity Cruises, Royal Caribbean, Norwegian Cruise Line and Carnival all have regular cruises to Bermuda. Luxury lines like Viking Cruises and Regent Seven Seas have some sailings that include Bermuda as well.

Where Do Cruise Ships Dock?

Most cruise ships dock in King’s Wharf or Heritage Wharf, also known as the Royal Naval Dockyard , or just Dockyard. This cruise port is great spot, within walking distance to the National Museum of Bermuda, Snorkel Park Beach and the Bermuda Craft Market.

Getting Around in Bermuda

King’s Wharf is a short walk to public transportation options. A shuttle or the local bus will take you to the beautiful pink beaches on the south shore of the island. The ferries are the best way to get to Hamilton Parish and St. George, where you’ll find many attractions and natural wonders.

You can purchase 1-3 day passes for the bus and ferry at the visitor’s center in Dockyard, steps away from your cruise ship.

Suggestions for Cruisers When Planning Your Bermuda itinerary

Remember that your ship will be docked at the cruise port for a night or two, depending on your itinerary. It’s a good idea to plan excursions that will be further from the cruise ship on day 1 and day 2. Then save the last day for activities that are close to the ship in the Royal Navy Dockyard .

Can You Use US dollars in Bermuda?

Top Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise

Hamilton Bermuda pastel buildings

Here are a few popular must-see Bermuda attractions. Please tailor this Bermuda cruise guide to your interests and pick a few attractions to focus on. If you love Bermuda, simply plan another cruise to return!

1. Horseshoe Bay Beach

horseshoe bay beach

Arguably the most famous beach in Bermuda, Horseshoe Bay Beach is about a 15 minute drive from the Royal Naval Dockyard cruise port. You’ll see long stretches of blush pink sand and striking rock formations, jutting out from the turquoise waters close by the shoreline.

You can get there by taking public transportation or a shuttle right from the cruise port. At about 7$ a person from port right down to the beach, the shuttle is very convenient. While there are other beaches nearby, including Warwick and Church Bay which you may also want to visit, you simply must see Horseshoe Bay!

Do not let the crowds scare you off – walk all the way past the crowds to the left. Continue past the first couple rock formations and it is Heaven!

2. Baby Beach

If you have young children check out Baby Beach immediately to the right. The rock formations insulate the cove area from rougher seas at the main beach and provide for great viewing of many fish and crabs!

3. Rum Bum Beach Bar and Beach House Restaurant

While you’re at Horseshoe Bay Beach, you can grab a bite to eat at the on-site take out restaurant along with a pretty good Rum Swizzle from the Beach Bar. While not inexpensive at about 10$ a drink, they’re quite good!

4. Tobacco Bay Beach

Located in St. George’s parish, Tobacco Bay Beach is considered to be one of the best Bermuda Beaches for snorkeling. While Tobacco Bay is known for it’s shallow and clear waters, perfect for seeing marine life, how Tobacco Beach got it’s name is interesting part of Bermuda’s history.

In the early 1600’s, a group of Castaways whose ship wrecked upon the reefs explored the island of Bermuda and it’s beautiful beaches. At this beach, they found wild tobacco growing. Hence, Tobacco Bay Beach was named .

Now don’t go looking for tobacco on your Bermuda cruise. There’s none to be found hundreds of years later, but the name “Tobacco Bay Beach” remains.

5. Hamilton City

Just a ferry ride away from Royal Navy Dockyard is Hamilton, the capital city of Bermuda. This truly is a beautiful small city to explore. If you enjoy history, consider spending a day in Hamilton to see the sights.

As you arrive in Hamilton, you’ll see Front Street, the main street lined with colorful pastel buildings facing the harbour. Hamilton is a great place to shop for jewelry, clothing, crafts made by local artisans, souvenirs and rum.

Tip:  There’s a department store called Marks & Spencers in walking distance from Hamilton Harbour.  It has a section in the back with delicious food imported from the UK. We buy some shortbread and jam cookies and striped mint candies called Humbugs. We bring them back as souvenirs for friends and family back home.

6. City of Hamilton Walking Tour

Hamilton Bermuda

Spend a couple of hours walking around the city of Hamilton on a self-guided walking tour or take a tour with the local town crier. Start on Front Street, then explore up and down Queen Street, Cedar Avenue and Church Street.

Some interesting sights to see include government buildings such as the Cabinet Building, the Sessions House and the impressive City Hall. An interesting fact about Bermuda’s rich history, is that Bermuda’s parliament is the oldest in the British commonwealth.

If you enjoy museums and art, make sure to stop in at the Bermuda National Gallery.

7. Cathedral of the Holy Trinity

In the parish of Hamilton, you’ll also find some of Bermuda’s oldest historic churches. In particular, the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity is worth a visit. On weekdays it’s open to guests who wish to climb the tower, where you experience incredible views of Hamilton city.

8. Hamilton Harbour Nights

Gombey Dancers in Bermuda

If your cruise ship will be in Bermuda on a Wednesday, you should plan on going to Hamilton’s Harbour Nights Festival. Hamilton Harbour Nights is a fun evening street fair with local vendors of handicrafts and delicious street food.

There are performers and a parade. You will also get to see a parade of local Gombey Dancers in traditional costumes. This is truly one of my all-time favorite Bermuda attractions. You won’t find this anywhere else!

How to get to Hamilton from the cruise port (Dockyard)

You simply take the 25 minute ferry ride from the ship dock to Hamilton. I suggest going a bit early as the ferry line does get long and it will be crowded. The ferry is 5$ per person each way, however depending on what you are planning during your visit to Bermuda, it may be worth buying a multi day pass for the ferry and bus.

Bermuda Cruise Tip

If you head into town a couple hours before, you can visit some of the Government buildings and beautiful churches and perhaps do a bit of shopping. You can also check out some of the popular local restaurants and people watch.

9. Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo (BAMZ)

If you are looking for things to do in Bermuda with kids, this Aquarium, Zoo and Museum is a favorite for families. The super large aquarium is the main attraction, and is a living replica of Bermuda’s coral reef – so you’ll see a wide variety of Bermuda marine life here. You’ll see outdoor pools with seals and turtles as well.

Once you see the aquarium, visit the small zoo and interesting museum. Do check their website for opening hours and tour times.

10. Crystal Caves and Fantasy Caves

crystal caves, bermuda

In the parish of Hamilton, you will find the famous natural beauty of the Crystal Caves. This unique cave, home to underground shimmering stalactites set over a clear ocean fed lake is a sight you won’t soon forget!

You’ll be intrigued to know that Mark Twain himself was the first tourist to visit!

We had an amazing day at Crystal Caves on our Bermuda cruise on the Celebrity Summit .

If you’re thinking of going to Crystal or Fantasy Caves, here’s detailed review and helpful guide with how to get to Crystal Caves from Royal Naval Dockyard  using Bermuda’s public transportation.

11. The Swizzle Inn

This well known pub and restaurant is home to the famous Rum Swizzle. If you’re planning a day, consider coming here for a casual lunch or dinner after visiting Crystal Caves or another sight. Consider getting a pitcher or original rum swizzles and sharing.

The Swizzle Inn is located across the street from Crystal Caves.

12. Bermuda’s National Drink – the Rum Swizzle

Bermuda is known for 2 drinks, the Rum Swizzle and the Dark and Stormy, both made with Goslings Rum. I’ve had both, but the Rum Swizzle is one of my all time favorites. I now even make a version of this drink at home!

You’ll find Rum Swizzles at quite a few bars and restaurants in Bermuda, however the original is at the Swizzle Inn.

Follow along in our YouTube video as we head over to Crystal Caves, Swizzle Inn and Hamilton by ferry and bus.

13. Gibb’s Lighthouse

Located about 30 minutes away from the cruise port, accessible by bus or taxi, Gibb’s Lighthouse is a phenomenal spot to get a great bird’s eye view of western Bermuda and the cruise ship port.

There’s even a restaurant where you can enjoy afternoon tea. If you are a lover of Maritime History and British history, be sure to put this on your list of things to do while in Bermuda.

14. Parish of St. George Historical Reenactment

St. George is about 45 minutes away from  by ferry. It is a truly gorgeous ride, so well worth the trip!

St. George is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and this is a good place to do a walking tour. You’ll find historical landmarks and museums, including the T ucker House Museum, The Unfinished Church and Fort-St. Catherine.

What is the Must-Do ?

This town is quaint and slow paced and has some interesting sites to see, plus one of the quirkiest things you will see anywhere! The Ducking Stool in the town center, King’s Square.

St. George has 18th century historical re-enactments in King’s Square which include a Town Crier and “The Dunking of the Nagging Wench”.

Now, I bring my sense of humor when I travel and we just thought this was totally different.

Local actors participate and school children come watch. They just really have a fun time and involve the “audience” in the show. It is usually on Thursday’s at 12:30, however please check for the current schedule .

Things to do near the cruise ship in Bermuda – Royal Naval Dockyard/King’s Wharf

The Dockyard area near the cruise ship has quite a lot to do and see, however do plan your Bermuda itinerary carefully.

It may surprise you to know that even with 2 and 3 days in port, every year there are cruise passengers who miss the ship , as don’t return to the ship on time.

As a suggestion, use your first day or two to visit places further from the port and do excursions on your own. Your last day and evenings could be spent closer to the ship in the dockyard area.

Just note that the last day in Bermuda is always busier around the cruise port/Dockyard area.

15. Royal Naval Dockyard

The Royal Naval Dockyard has quite a few activities to do and places to visit, all within a short distance of your cruise ship. It’s well worth exploring and taking time to visit this part of Bermuda.

There’s even a free trolley if your feet are just a little tired from exploring Bermuda’s beaches and other attractions. You’ll find really pretty shops with Bermuda crafts and souvenirs, well as some nice, casual restaurants and pubs. There are museums, a beach area and several types of activities!

Since there’s so much to see, we toured Royal Navy Dockyard and created this video below (where you’ll see some of our favorite things!)

16. Snorkel Park Beach

This man-made beach is literally a 5 minute walk from the cruise ship dock. It’s a very calm small beach to visit if you have young children as well as if you’re looking for a beach day on the last day of your cruise. At 5$ to enter, its a great deal for nice, fun beach day.

They have snorkel gear that you can rent, or you can bring your own. Kayaks and other water sports equipment is available for rent.

17. Dolphin Quest

Right next to Snorkel Park, you’ll find Dolphin Quest. If you or your children have dreamed of swimming with dolphins and learning about them, this is offered within walking distance of the ship. Booking ahead is suggested.

18. National Museum of Bermuda

If you or your children enjoy learning about Bermuda’s History as well as seeing artifacts from sunken treasures, this is a great way to spend a few hours. There is also a play area for young children. The museum located in the Keep, Royal Naval Dockyard is free for children 16 and under and does have a charge for adults. Check their website for opening hours and rates.

19. Clock-tower Mall and Local Shops in Dockyard

The Clock-tower Mall, which is visible in many of the the pictures you’ll see of the Bermuda Cruise Port, is filled with small local shops. If you want to bring back some Bermuda perfume, some artist’s paintings or prints, handmade jewelry and other crafts, this is the place to find it.

Other shops in Dockyard include a rum cake shop and the glass blowing shop where they demonstrate their work. Some great clothing stores feature nautical themed clothing and made in Bermuda jewelry, candles and other collectibles.

*Many of the shops and some local artists and shopkeepers are featured in this Bermuda Dockyard video on YouTube .

20. Bermuda Treats to Eat or Take Home

My favorite souvenirs to bring home usually include some local treats. You can find some good options right in dockyard, close to your cruise ship.

21. Bermudas’s Moongate in Dockyard

bermuda cruise port moongate

Bermuda has several Moongates located around the island. Lucky for us cruisers, there is one right in Dockyard fairly close to the cruise ships.

Legend has it that if couples walk through the Moongate together, they’ll be blessed with a long and happy life together.

My husband and I first walked through this Moongate in 2008 during our first visit to Bermuda by cruise. Since then we’ve gone through it each and every time we’ve returned.

I’ve come to realize that this Moongate is part of many people’s Bermuda stories, from anniversaries, to engagements to just being together and stopping for a moment to create a vacation memory.

Let it become one of yours – find the Moongate (and take a photo).

Bermuda Shore Excursions

It’s been said that Bermuda is best seen from the water. There are some great excursions including catamaran snorkeling , wave runners, glass bottom boats and more.

While you certainly don’t have to book and excursion, as there is plenty to do and see on your own, there is value to a local excursion. You can book these with your cruise ship, or directly with a local tour operator.

It can be a good idea to book online before you go as excursions are popular and can sell out.

22. Snorkeling and Boat Excursions

I quite like catamaran and boat excursions as for me it is the right amount of “organization”, local information from the tour operator or guide, and activity to make it an enjoyable part of our visit.

The last couple of years we’ve had great excursions with Rising Son Tours. We’ve appreciated the gorgeous catamarans, friendly and informative crew, and rum swizzles of course!

We were provided with noodles, paddle-boards and had an overall great time floating in the crystal clear waters.

If you’re not fond of getting into the water, consider a romantic Champagne Catamaran excursion at sunset or a boat tour of some of the beautiful and famous homes of Bermuda.

Here’s my review, so you can see what is offered and what to expect:  Bermuda Rising Son Cruises Catamaran Snorkeling Review

23. Port Royal Golf Course

Bermuda has some of the most beautiful and highly rated golf courses in the world, so if you are a golfer, put this on your wish list. Port Royal Golf Course in Southampton is the closest golf course to the ship and is easily accessible by bus or cab. Golf clubs, shoes and carts are all available to rent. However, if you are cruising to Bermuda it is very easy to bring your own golf clubs on board.

24. Tom Moore’s Jungle/Blue Hole Park

If you are looking for something different that is not often on the cruiser’s radar, make your way to Tom Moore’s Jungle in the parish of Hamilton. This nature reserve has wooded paths, mangroves, caves and grottos, including well known Blue Grotto. You’ll see a variety of birds and fish as well.

There’s always an interesting story in Bermuda: this nature reserve is named after Irish poet Tom Moore, who wrote poetry under a calabash tree in this reserve in 1844. The famous tree was destroyed in a hurricane several years ago, however its branches have begun to grow again.

25. Dining in Bermuda & Local Eats

Bermuda is a bit on the expensive side, as a lot is imported from the US or Britain. Since you are cruising, try to plan your day so that you can take advantage of eating some meals on the ship and some meals in Bermuda.

Some of the most popular pubs for both locals and tourists include the Hog Penny Pub or Flanagan’s Irish Pub in Hamilton. If you want to grab a bite close to the ship, a great spot is The Frog and Onion Pub.

A little place quite close to the cruise port that is distinctively local is Woody’s. It’s only about 5 minutes away by cab. I’ve unfortunately not eaten there yet, however I hear from the locals that they make a fabulous fish sandwich!

If you’ve been to Bermuda and know other great spots I should add to my list, please leave a comment below.

Final Thoughts on the Best Things to do in Bermuda for Cruisers

I hope that this list of the best things to do in Bermuda on a cruise can help you enjoy Bermuda as much as I have!

Although Bermuda is a small island, remember to build a little itinerary so that you plan things that are in the same area. Divide up your must-see Bermuda attractions into your 2-3 days. Whatever is left, just means you must return on another cruise!

My favorite thing o do was on the other end of the island is an old NASA tracking station. Looking around old buildings and tracking equipment from the 60’s was cool. It also has over a two mile long runway from the old space. Shuttle days. Built for emergency landings of shuttle.

Hi Russell,

That is so interesting! I’ll have to look into this and probably one day do a good tour of the island!

Thanks for the great suggestion!

10 Best Cruises to Bermuda for Every Type of Traveler

We spoke to travel experts to round up 10 of the best Bermuda cruises.

bermuda by cruise

Courtesy of MSC Cruises

Bermuda is world-renowned for its pink-sand beaches, shipwrecks, enchanting caves, and historic attractions and landmarks. This, coupled with Bermuda’s close proximity to the eastern coast of the United States, makes it a popular vacation destination — especially among cruisers.

“While there are stunning hotels in Bermuda, accommodation and dining can be expensive; [however], overnighting on a ship with accommodations and meals (and, in many cases, beverages) included tends to be a good value,” explains T+L A-List advisor Rob Clabbers , the founder and president of Q Cruise + Travel , a Virtuoso agency in Chicago. While there are many Bermuda cruises to choose from across an array of different lines — from small-ship luxury fleets to massive mega-ships — it’s worth noting that “most larger ships dock at the historic Royal Naval Dockyard in the West End” while some smaller ships “call at the port of Hamilton, the capital of Bermuda,” explains Clabbers.

Whatever port interests you, these 10 itineraries are some of the best Bermuda cruises currently on the market.

Norwegian Cruise Line

Courtesy of Norwegian Cruise Line

This World’s Best Award-winning mega-ship ocean line stands out for its laid-back approach to cruising. (Fun fact: They were the first line to eliminate set dining times to afford passengers more flexibility.) According to Fora travel advisor Cameron Tempest , the line “offers multiple itineraries from 4-9 days, leaving from several East Coast cities” for optimal convenience; meanwhile, the itineraries “offer some great options to spend up to three days in Bermuda or even see Bermuda and sail all the way down to NCL’s private island, Great Stirrup Cay in the Bahamas.” We’d also be remiss not to mention the ample onboard activities, entertainment, restaurants, and bars that are sure to please cruisers of all ages. Last but not least, guests can choose from a slew of accommodation options — from wallet-friendly interior cabins to splurge-worthy suites — across all the line’s ships.

Itinerary: Norwegian Cruise Line offers an array of Bermuda cruise itineraries from which to choose. However, says Clabbers, “Time-starved adults and families alike will appreciate a quick 4-day cruise on the brand-new Norwegian Aqua ,” which sails round-trip from New York. The  3,571-passenger vessel is loaded with amenities, including the Aqua Slidecoaster, a combination rollercoaster and water slide; the glass-bottomed Oceanwalk promenade; and the Haven complex, a “ship within a ship” area reserved for suite guests (which Clabbers notes is a favorite of his clients). “You will absolutely not be bored en route to the island,” he says, “with so many activities, restaurants, and entertainment.”

Celebrity Cruises

Courtesy of Celebrity Cruises.

Celebrity Cruises is among our readers' favorite mega-ship ocean lines thanks to its upscale ambiance, which Clabbers describes as “more sophisticated but not stuffy.” What’s more, this World’s Best Award Hall of Fame honoree is sure to impress with its sleek onboard spaces, including an adults-only Solarium and the swanky Retreat, which is exclusive to suite guests. Clabbers is also quick to call out the line’s exceptional dining — including eateries helmed by Michelin-starred chef Daniel Boulud — and its spa, which offers over 120 treatments.

Itinerary: The 7-night Bermuda cruise from Cape Liberty, New Jersey , takes place aboard Celebrity Silhouette, which Clabbers describes as “impressive.” Part of Celebrity’s popular Solstice class, this ship offers “something for everyone,” Clabbers says, from the Camp At Sea kids club to croquet and bocce ball and luxurious suites at the Retreat. These sailings also include two nights at Bermuda’s Royal Naval Dockyard, offering passengers plenty of time to explore the island’s pink-sand beaches and other attractions, including the Crystal and Fantasy Caves and the historic town of Saint George.

Oceania Cruises

Courtesy of Oceania Cruises

While not explicitly adults-only, this luxury cruise line — which is among our readers’ favorite mid-size ocean lines — is definitely geared more towards grown-ups thanks to its refined vibes, gourmet cuisine, and sophisticated atmosphere. And while an Oceania sailing can be pricey, it packs plenty of value: The line’s signature Simply More offer includes a slew of free perks, like shore excursions, drink packages, Wi-Fi, and gourmet specialty dining.

Itinerary: “While most cruise lines depart from the New York area to visit Bermuda, the highly rated Oceania Vista (1,200 guests) can take you round-trip from Miami on April 19, 2025 ,” says Clabbers, who also notes the quality food and “country-club casual atmosphere” that’s well suited for cruisers without kids. He also describes the itinerary as “unique,” since it includes stops in Key West, Cape Canaveral, Charleston, and a private island in the Bahamas — in addition to two days at Bermuda’s Royal Naval Dockyard.

Silversea Cruises

Courtesy of Silversea Cruises

Bermuda cruisers craving an intimate onboard ambiance coupled with top-notch amenities and all-suite accommodations — each with ocean views, most with private balconies — need not look further than Silversea, which offers a luxury all-inclusive experience. High-end dining, unlimited pours of certain alcohol, shore excursions, and gratuities are all built into the cost of a Silversea cruise, making planning a breeze. While days in port are best enjoyed off-ship, travelers can easily pass the time on board by visiting the tranquil spa, listening to a guest lecturer, or enjoying live music.

Itinerary: While some Bermuda itineraries are on the shorter side, this one , which cruises from Fort Lauderdale to New York, offers 15 days of idyllic island bliss. Taking place aboard the 382-guest Silver Shadow , this specific sailing comes highly recommended by Clabbers. “You’ll visit Samana in the Dominican Republic; Aruba; St. Barts; [and] St. Thomas, USVI, before spending one night/two days docked in the heart of Hamilton, Bermuda.”

Royal Caribbean International

Courtesy of Royal Caribbean

“My preferred cruise line for Bermuda is Royal Caribbean,” says Melissa Loor , a travel agent at Marvelous Mouse Travels. This massive mega-ship ocean line offers fun for everyone, including (but not limited to) rock climbing, ziplining, water slides, several pools, carousels, Broadway-caliber shows, ice skating, and onboard escape rooms. As such, its splashy entertainment offerings — which vary depending on the ship — are ideal for kids, kids at heart, and, well, anyone in search of a good time coupled with fun in the sun. Ships are also equipped with ample drinking and dining venues to suit every palate — picky eaters included.

Itinerary: Loor especially recommends this 6-night Bermuda cruise , which sails roundtrip from New Jersey. “With overnight stays at the Royal Naval Dockyard, you are not pressured to be back on the ship in the afternoon/early evening, so you get more time to explore,” she says. Her recommended activities while you’re on shore include the pink beaches of Horseshoe Bay, the shopping in Hamilton, and themed restaurants like Calico Jack's Floating Bar , which comes with its own diving board so you can “walk the plank” into the surrounding bay waters. Bermuda is the only stop on this itinerary, she notes, and it’s bookended by travel days, meaning travelers will have “a few days at sea to relax and unwind after all [their] Bermuda adventures.”

Virgin Voyages

Courtesy of Virgin Voyages

Virgin Voyages — which was named our readers’ favorite mega-ship ocean line in the 2024 World’s Best Awards — is one of the industry’s truly adults-only cruise lines . It also boasts unique onboard amenities such as a sprawling nightclub, a tattoo parlor, and a dining scene with no buffets (instead, there are 20-plus menu-based drinking and dining venues that are completely complimentary). “I personally love the fact that Virgin Voyages is truly all-inclusive — Wi-Fi, gratuities, and all essential beverages (think water, soda, and drip coffee) are already included in your cruise fare,” says Charlene Recio , a travel advisor at Marvelous Mouse Travels.

Itinerary: Spanning a total of five nights, the Big Apple to Bermuda cruise features an overnight stay at Kings Wharf in Bermuda — which, per Recio, “allows travelers to truly immerse themselves in the culture and history” of the destination — as well as two days at sea. According to the travel advisor, the itinerary is “perfect for travelers who consider the features of the ship just as important as the destinations they are traveling to.” Passengers will sail aboard Brilliant Lady , the line’s newest ship, slated to debut in 2025.

MSC Cruises

This mega-ship ocean line is sure to please families of all ages with its splashy entertainment offerings, bustling common spaces, and all-around high-energy vibes. That said, those craving a more refined onboard experience should splurge on a suite in the MSC Yacht Club, a ship-within-a-ship concept that offers access to exclusive venues — including a dedicated restaurant, a private solarium, and a swanky lounge — as well as butler service. Yacht Club guests enjoy free Wi-Fi, spa access, and the line’s signature Premium Extra Package for drinks, among other perks.

Itinerary: MSC Cruises offers a handful of Bermuda cruises sailing round-trip from Brooklyn, New York, aboard the massive MSC Meraviglia. Onboard highlights include the 315-foot promenade dotted with shops and restaurants, a bowling alley, racing simulators, and several water slides. Tight on time? Opt for the six-night sailing , which includes three blissful days/two nights at the Royal Naval Dockyard, plus two sea days.

Windstar Cruises

Courtesy of Windstar Cruises

Windstar Cruises is known for its fleet of small luxury ships, each carrying fewer than 350 passengers. The line also stands out for this acclaimed culinary programming — it’s the official cruise line of the James Beard Foundation — both on the ship and off, thanks to excursions such as chef-guided market tours. While the line isn’t technically all-inclusive, guests have the option to purchase all-inclusive fares — which include Wi-Fi; unlimited beer, wine, and cocktails; and gratuities — for as little as $89 per guest, per day.

Itinerary: The aptly named Bermuda Bliss itinerary sails from New York City to San Juan, Puerto Rico, and includes an overnight in Saint George. Passengers will spend seven days cruising aboard Star Pride , which offers signature Windstar amenities such as a BBQ feast and a watersports platform with complimentary kayaks and stand-up paddleboards.

Carnival Cruise Line

Courtesy of Carnival Cruises

Calling all kids and kids at heart: Carnival’s motto is quite literally “Choose Fun,” which means you can expect, well, lots of onboard fun in the form of water slides, ropes courses, an indoor trampoline park, and live game shows (note that specific offerings vary depending on the ship). The mega-ship ocean line is also famous for its wallet-friendly fares, making it a popular pick among cost-conscious cruisers.

Itinerary: The four-day Bermuda sailing from New York makes for an easy and affordable long weekend escape. Unlike the other itineraries listed above, this one doesn’t include an overnight in port; rather, it docks in Bermuda from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m., making it ideal for those who are tighter on time. Passengers will cruise aboard Carnival Venezia , which offers a Venetian-inspired atrium (aptly called Piazza San Marco), 15-plus bars and restaurants, and action-packed activities like mini golf and pickleball so guests can let loose while en route to and from Bermuda.

Holland America Line

Holland America Line stands out for its live music programming — most ships boast a Music Walk, a collection of onboard venues that offer all sorts of genres, from blues to rock and beyond — and top-notch dining. (They’re best known for the Global Fresh Fish Program, featuring over 80 varieties of fresh fish sourced from local ports of call.) The 11 stylish ships in its fleet feature elegant common areas and impressive art collections.

Itinerary: The 14-day Southern Caribbean sailing from Boston to Fort Lauderdale calls on Kings Wharf, Bermuda — along with equally stunning Caribbean locales like St. Thomas, St. Maarten, Martinique, Barbados, Curacao, and Half Moon Cay , a pristine private island in the Bahamas. You’ll sail aboard the 1,964-guest Zuiderdam, which offers the aforementioned Music Walk plus pickleball; 12-plus bars, lounges, and restaurants; a tranquil spa; and three sparkling swimming pools.

5 Perfectly Dreamy Cruises to Bermuda

Whether you want to spend several days just relaxing in and around bermuda or love the idea of combining the north atlantic island with nearby coastal destinations, there’s a perfect bermuda cruise for you..

  • Copy Link copied

The beautiful beaches and charming cities of Bermuda are closer than you might think.

Often confused as part of the Caribbean , Bermuda stands alone with its strong British heritage, world-famous regattas, and quintessential pink sands. The closest landmass off the coast of North Carolina, this small North Atlantic Island is not a far jaunt from the East Coast but feels a world away, which makes it a singular cruise destination.

A hallmark of any Bermuda cruise is time in the destination. Unlike other cruise itineraries, where you might pop off the ship for a couple of hours, sailings to Bermuda almost always include one or two overnights in port. This lets travelers get to know the island at a slightly more relaxed pace. Visitors have the option to head farther afield from where they’re docked, dine in a restaurant ashore, or experience a little local nightlife.

If you’re considering an ocean voyage to the cerulean shores of Bermuda, these cruises showcase five unique ways to sail there in style.

A quick getaway from Manhattan on Virgin Voyages

To book: Virgin’s 5-night Big Apple to Bermuda itinerary is priced from $2,340 per cabin

Yes, you can squeeze a full Bermudian vacation into only five nights if you sail round trip from New York City. Virgin Voyages, known for its adults-only policy and PTO-friendly cruises, offers a Big Apple to Bermuda itinerary for those who are short on time but not standards. Docked just shy of 24 hours in King’s Wharf, passengers are set free in the center of a six-acre complex known as the Royal Naval Dockyard. Surprisingly, this tourist hub does not feel tacky. Cruise passengers can take in architecture like the picturesque clocktower, some stellar shopping (don’t leave without a rum cake) and lunch at a decades’ old favorite, the Frog & Onion Pub. From here, the quickest way to Hamilton, the capital city, is a 20-minute ferry ride. Back aboard Virgin’s 2,762-passenger Brilliant Lady , “sailors” can expect edgy entertainment like an absurdist dance party with rave vibes called the “Untitled Dance Show Partything” and more than 20 appealing eateries—all included in the fare.

One week with Oceania Cruises featuring a stop in Rhode Island

To book: Oceania Cruises’ 7-night Bermudian Breeze voyage starts at $1,699 per person

Three of the eight days of this Oceania voyage are spent docked in Bermuda, which is nearly half the cruise. The 670-passenger Insignia is small enough to dock in downtown Hamilton, the centrally located capital, bringing you straight into the heart of the city. After two full nights, the ship repositions to the historic former capital of St. George at the northern end of the island for a full day spent strolling its cottage-lined cobblestone streets, fragrant with frangipani. What sets this sailing apart—aside from Oceania’s knack for culinary excellence—is a day spent in Newport, Rhode Island, on your way from New York to Bermuda. Home to splendid Gilded Age mansions, Newport displays its opulence best at the Breakers, former home of the Vanderbilt family. A tour along the dramatic Cliff Walk is a must, offered as an optional shore excursion through Oceania.

Bermuda plus Charleston and Martha’s Vineyard on Celebrity

To book: Celebrity Cruises’ 10-day Bermuda & Charleston starts at $1,388 per person

Celebrity Cruises runs a series of weeklong sailings from Cape Liberty, New Jersey, to Bermuda and back. But for those who have a few extra days, go for Celebrity’s Bermuda & Charleston itinerary. Not only does this cruise tack on an overnight in Charleston, South Carolina, to its 48 hours in Bermuda, but it also includes a call on famed summer enclave Martha’s Vineyard. Ashore, you’ll be up to your eyeballs in charming shops and shaded squares, but back aboard, there is still plenty that will impress. The 2,886-passenger Celebrity Silhouette seamlessly blends the outdoors into its ambience with private balconies in 85 percent of its rooms, plus the Lawn Club, a live grass lawn on the top of the ship for an impromptu picnic or game of bocce.

An epic Lesser Antilles sailing on Regent Seven Seas

To book: Regent Seven Seas’ 16-night Iconic Islands to Empire City is priced from $10,099 per person for fare including flights, hotel, and transfers

We’ve already noted that Bermuda is not the Caribbean, but if you want to explore both, Regent’s Iconic Islands to Empire City is an itinerary to remember. Departing from Miami for New York, this luxury, all-inclusive voyage calls on Bermuda in addition to seven other islands along the way. En route to Hamilton, why not stop off in Grenada, St. Lucia, St. Bart’s, Puerto Rico, and all three of the ABC islands? Sailing Regent’s 700-passenger Seven Seas Mariner , you won’t have to even think about lifting a finger; everything from airfare to Wi-Fi is built into the fare, including tips, shore excursions, and fine wines and spirits. This is the Bermuda cruise for those who have perhaps already spent time on the island and now want to expand their repertoire of tropical sandy beaches—in the lap of luxury.

One week with an ocean crossing on Windstar

To book: Windstar’s 7-night Bermuda Bliss cruise starts at $2,599 per person

Bound for Bermuda with the sea breeze in your hair is the vibe aboard Star Pride , one of Windstar’s distinguished yachts. This weeklong sailing is actually a crossing, taking up to 312 passengers from New York to San Juan, Puerto Rico, via the Atlantic Ocean. After two sea days, you’ll disembark for some time in St. George, a UNESCO World Heritage site known for being the earliest example of an English colonial town in the New World. Another two sea days bring you to the Port of San Juan, where passengers disembark and can opt for a brief land vacation. With a casual and intimate atmosphere aboard, this Windstar cruise is the right move for travelers who really want to unwind at sea with a Bermuda stint in between. Begin your mornings with yoga on deck, and if the weather allows, take a dip in the ocean from the water-sports platform.

Best Things to Do in Bermuda

Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: Royal Naval Dockyard buildings

Royal Naval Dockyard

Start your day with a visit to the Bermuda Royal Naval Dockyard , also known as “King’s Wharf.” This historic naval station, nestled gracefully on Bermuda’s picturesque western coast, bears a storied legacy tracing its roots back to the early 19th century.

The Dockyard was founded in the early 19th century to serve as a station for the Royal Navy’s West Indies Squadron. It also served as a refuge for naval warships and maintenance and storage facilities. It was also used as a base for anti-piracy patrols and the abolition of the transatlantic slave trade.

The Dockyard is an expressive testament to Bermuda’s long maritime heritage. It is marked by its remarkable naval architecture featuring imposing stone defenses and robust docks. Among its most notable features is “The Keep,” a fortress-like tower that once occupied the role of administrative headquarters for this formidable naval stronghold.

Today, the Royal Naval Dockyard has transformed into a bustling tourist destination. The Dockyard offers a variety of shops, restaurants, museums, and exciting activities that draw travelers in. Some notable attractions include the charming Clocktower Mall, the National Museum of Bermuda, and the thrilling Dolphin Quest adventure.

Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: colorful buildings along Front Street

Front Street

Front Street, Bermuda’s bustling main street in Hamilton, represents the island’s unique charm and vibrancy. What sets this thoroughfare apart is its captivating waterfront promenade, where colonial buildings adorned in shades of pink, yellow, and blue overlook the tranquil Hamilton Harbor.

One of Front Street’s captivating features is its lovely coastal location. Here, you can soak in scenic views of Hamilton Harbor, observe the graceful arrival and departure of boats and cruise ships, and take leisurely strolls along the charming harborfront promenade.

Front Street is also a true treasure trove for shopping enthusiasts. Boutiques, department stores, and specialized shops fill the Boulevard. You can find everything from high-end clothing and beautiful jewelry to locally produced souvenirs. It’s a treasure trove of one-of-a-kind gifts and Bermuda-themed items that represent the essence of the island.

Dining options abound, with many restaurants, cafés, and guests lining the street. Front Street caters to all culinary tastes, whether you’re in the mood for mouthwatering seafood, international cuisine, or traditional Bermudian delicacies like fish chowder and fish sandwiches.

During the summer, Wednesday nights on Front Street come alive with the weekly Harbour Nights event. Here, you may enjoy Gombey dancers’ vibrant performances, enjoy street food delights , participate in family activities, and discover the works of local artisans .

PRO TIP: If you want your photo in front of the Bermuda letter sign, you’ll find it on Front Street, to the left of the Visitor’s Center, as you face the water.

Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: Horseshoe Bay Beach

Horseshoe Bay Beach

Horseshoe Bay Beach , Bermuda’s crown gem, is known for its stunning pink beaches and turquoise waters. This famous spot, nestled along the south coast of Bermuda’s main island, is loved by both locals and tourists. The impressive natural limestone cliffs and rich flora surrounding its shoreline add to its enchantment. The beach boasts a unique curved shape resembling a horseshoe from the name itself, adding to its charm.

Horseshoe Bay Beach provides a variety of activities for visitors seeking fun and relaxation, including beachcombing, sunbathing, beach volleyball, swimming, and snorkeling in crystal-clear waters. Adventurous ones can explore the surrounding areas via hiking paths, soaking in the scenic beauty of the coastline.

The beach has everything you need for your comfort and convenience. Changing rooms, bathrooms, and beach equipment rentals are all conveniently available. When you’re thirsty, the beachside café serves a range of snacks and refreshing beverages. A gift shop also allows you to take a little of Bermuda’s charm home with you.

However, it’s important to note that Horseshoe Bay Beach’s popularity can lead to overcrowding, especially when multiple cruise ships are docked. To enjoy a more serene experience, consider planning your visit during the early morning or late afternoon hours, when the crowds tend to be smaller.

Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: Warwick Long Bay Beach

Warwick Long Bay Beach

Warwick Long Bay Beach , located on Bermuda’s serene South Shore, is a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. This lovely beach stretches for half a mile. It is bordered by rugged outcroppings and graced by a coral island rising from the dazzling blue oceans offshore.

What truly sets Warwick Long Bay Beach apart is its sense of isolation and serenity. Compared to some of Bermuda’s more bustling beaches, it offers a quieter and more peaceful escape. It is a perfect choice for those seeking a tranquil retreat.

Walking paths in South Shore Park connect this expansive pink-sand beach to several serene coves and gorgeous shorelines. Despite its limited profile, the beach is ideal for families thanks to its shallow, quiet waves, which offer a safe sanctuary for swimming and relaxing.

Warwick Long Bay Beach’s crystal-clear and calm waters make it an ideal spot for snorkeling and exploring the vibrant underwater world. Depending on the weather conditions, it can even be a fantastic destination for inexperienced surfers looking to catch some waves.

Warwick Long Bay Beach is easily accessible, with public transit readily accessible. The Number 7 bus route travels conveniently along the South Shore, providing an easy and picturesque trip to this hidden gem.

Whether you’re searching for tranquility, water adventures, or a peaceful day by the shore, Warwick Long Bay Beach invites you with its unspoiled beauty and serene ambiance, making it a must-visit destination for a blissful beach experience in Bermuda.

Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: Fort St. Catherine in St. George's

St. George’s

A short ferry or bus ride from the Royal Naval Dockyard will transport you to St. George’s , a UNESCO-listed town that is a testament to Bermuda’s rich and enduring history. As the oldest continuously inhabited English-speaking town in the Americas, St. George’s invites you to wander through its narrow streets and immerse yourself in a past era.

A stroll through St. George’s feels like a journey into a charming time capsule. Beautifully preserved historic buildings line cobblestone streets, each whispering stories of Bermuda’s historical past. Among these architectural treasures stands St. Peter’s Church, a living relic and the oldest Anglican church in continuous use beyond the British Isles. Its serene interior and ancient graveyard are testaments to centuries of history.

One of the town’s must-visit sites is the Bermuda National Trust Museum, housed in the historic Mitchell House. Here, you can dive deeper into the island’s captivating history and gain insights into the lives of its early settlers. The museum’s exhibits shed light on Bermuda’s maritime heritage, display centuries-old artifacts, and illuminate the island’s essential role in shaping historical events.

St. George’s enchants visitors not only with its historical landmarks but also with its natural splendor. Magnificent views of crystal-clear waters and breathtaking scenery surround the town. If you still have time, I highly recommend taking a leisurely stroll along the sandy shores of Tobacco Bay Beach, where you may bask in the sun’s warmth or go snorkeling to see the diverse marine life that thrives beneath the surface.

Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: St. Peter's Church

St. Peter’s Church

St. Peter’s Church, located in St. George’s Parish, is a historical treasure that serves as a testament to Bermuda’s lasting spiritual heritage. Built in 1612, it is the oldest operating Anglican Church outside the British Isles. St. Peter’s Church, located on the northeastern edge of Bermuda’s main island, provides an intriguing glimpse into the island’s early history.

Within its hallowed walls, you will encounter a variety of historical relics and architectural splendor. The church still has its original altar, an 18th-century throne recovered from a shipwreck, and communion silver from the 1600s. The African Diaspora Heritage Trail includes two historic cemeteries near the church that were historically divided for white and black Bermudians.

St. Peter’s Church represents the architectural style that was popular at the time. The church’s simple yet attractive architecture, made of locally gathered Bermuda stone, blends beautifully with its lovely surroundings. Inside, a wooden altar, a pulpit, a baptismal font, and stained glass windows portray the church’s and the island’s history, among its historic and modern features.

The surrounding cemetery was the final resting place of numerous early citizens and notable figures from Bermuda. Gravestones tell intriguing stories about Bermuda’s past, providing a meaningful connection to the island’s history.

With no entrance fee, St. Peter’s Church welcomes the public, making it an accessible and culturally stimulating visit for anyone touring St. George’s town. A visit to this old church, whether by foot or bus, promises a meaningful experience of Bermuda’s history, spirituality, and architectural splendor.

Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: Unfinished Church

Unfinished Church

The Unfinished Church, a remarkable Gothic-style architectural wonder, holds a unique allure with its unfinished state, adding to its fascinating charm. Its walls and structural foundations are in place, yet it lacks both a roof and interior furnishings. The result is a hauntingly beautiful, open-air space.

The church’s history is connected with a mission to rebuild the storm-damaged St. Peter’s Church, destroyed by a storm in 1824. The new church’s construction started in 1874, guided by the design of Scottish architect William Hay. However, it was never completed due to congregational differences and budgetary restrictions.

The Gothic Revival style of the church’s construction is a visual wonder, with pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and flying buttresses. Its striking look against the backdrop of a beautiful sky and the sea makes it a popular photo spot.

The Unfinished Church, open to the public, has no entrance fee. It welcomes you to explore its interior and exterior, allowing you to admire its architectural structures and the tranquil gardens.

Whether you’re drawn in by its unique aesthetics, historical tales, or the dynamic activities it hosts, the Unfinished Church guarantees an unforgettable experience for those who walk through its walls.

Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: Bermuda Botanical Gardens

Bermuda Botanical Gardens

The Bermuda Botanical Gardens , established in 1898, extends over 36 acres of natural grandeur in the heart of Paget Parish, only a short drive from the island’s capital, Hamilton. This charming floral paradise is easily accessible, with handy public transit, taxis, and scooters readily available.

Initially designed by the Bermudian government as an area for research and teaching, these Gardens have grown over time into a renowned public attraction known for their breathtaking landscapes and botanical diversity.

During your visit, you can enjoy a kaleidoscope of plant species, trees, and blossoms from all over the world. The Palm Garden, Rose Garden, Camellia Collection, and Orchid Collection are among the themed gardens that highlight the grounds, each providing a unique and visually engaging experience. Greenhouses house exquisite orchid and succulent collections. Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise | The Common Traveler | image: Gibbs Lighthouse

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is a famous and beloved tourist destination representing Bermuda’s unique charm. This 117-foot-tall lighthouse is in Bermuda’s heart because of its towering grandeur, breathtaking panoramas, and historical significance. Built in 1846 from cast iron, it is the world’s oldest of its kind and one of only two remaining cast-iron lighthouses.

Strategically located, the lighthouse boasts panoramic views of Hamilton, the Royal Naval Dockyard, the South Shore, and the scenic Little Sound. Embarking on an adventure here involves climbing the lighthouse’s spiral staircase, which consists of 185 steps, to one of the island’s most panoramic viewpoints.

While Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is a popular tourist attraction, it also serves as a navigational beacon, flashing white lights every 5 seconds to guide ships safely through nearby waterways and reefs.

Gibbs Hill Lighthouse is open daily from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The lighthouse is open to the public for an entrance fee of $2.50 per person, charged at the on-site gift store. The gift shop is also an excellent place to buy iconic Bermuda souvenirs or a cold beverage.

Bermuda Railway Trail

This captivating pathway promises a distinctive and unique journey through the island, meandering through charming villages, green forests, and scenic coastlines.

Starting at the Royal Naval Dockyard, your tour will take you through the charming Bermudian towns of Somerset and Flatts Village. These charming villages represent Bermuda’s rich cultural past, with vibrant architecture and warm greetings from the locals. Watch for the different kinds of birds and unique plant life that adorn the trail, adding to its attraction.

One of the most intriguing parts of the Bermuda Railway Trail is its historical tapestry. Along the route, you’ll encounter well-preserved remnants of Bermuda’s historic railway system, which once operated from 1931 to 1948. Crossing these antique railway bridges offers a portal to the past and provides sweeping panoramic views of the surrounding landscapes.

The trail’s main attraction undeniably lies in its breathtaking coastal vistas. Cycling along this scenic route rewards you with breathtaking views of Bermuda’s crystalline waters and rugged shorelines, making it a photographer’s and wildlife enthusiast’s paradise.

To take your experience to the fullest, I recommend renting a bicycle , readily available at numerous rental shops. Remember to pack essentials such as sunscreen, water, and snacks to keep you energized and prepared for an unforgettable journey through Bermuda’s captivating landscapes.

Crystal and Fantasy Caves

The Crystal and Fantasy Caves in Hamilton are unique natural wonders known for their impressive geological structures. These subterranean caverns, now known worldwide, were discovered by accident in the early 20th century. The caves were stumbled upon by two young boys in 1907 during a game of cricket that led them to a small hole in the ground. Little did they know that this chance discovery would unveil the hidden treasures of these underground wonders.

Crystal Cave’s crystal-covered tunnels and fascinating 55-foot-deep lake reveal an enchanting world of azure-blue underwater waters. During your visit, you will find a variety of unique formations inside its depths, from stalactites and stalagmites of all forms and sizes to the unique and beautiful chandelier clusters and wonderful crystallized soda straws gracing the cave ceilings. Each cave has its own unique and breathtaking beauty.

You may discover these natural beauties by taking guided tours that provide an immersive and informative experience. You will be guided through the caves by knowledgeable guides. The guides offer intriguing insights into their formation, historical significance, and geological significance. These guided tours last 30 to 40 minutes and provide a view into the captivating environment under Bermuda’s surface.

Blue Hole Park

Blue Hole Park, known locally as Tom Moore’s Jungle , is a mesmerizing natural beauty tucked away in Hamilton Parish on Bermuda’s eastern coast.

The captivating Blue Hole, a large, deep pool surrounded by thriving mangroves, is at the heart of Blue Hole Park. It offers an appealing natural swimming spot set within the island’s rich nature. The park’s allure doesn’t end there. Explore the network of caves and grottoes adorned with natural lakes and stalactite formations and connected by underground tunnels!

Some of the blue holes are swimmable, providing a one-of-a-kind opportunity to immerse yourself in the crystal-clear waters. While exploring these natural treasures, practicing caution and being aware of changing depths is essential.

Blue Hole Park also has well-kept walking paths that wind through the lush forest. This park has it all, whether you want a tranquil stroll, a refreshing swim, or a look into underground mysteries.

PRO TIP: You can only visit the Blue Hole on an accompanied tour for safety reasons. Book a tour if you’d like to try them.

Sample a Rum Swizzle

What’s a rum swizzle? It’s Bermuda’s national cocktail , of course! Named after the Swizzle Inn, which made it famous, the Rum Swizzle contains rum, orange and pineapple juices, bitters, and grenadine. Thanks to the pineapple, the tropical rum punch hits all the right notes. Don’t leave Bermuda without sampling a Rum Swizzle, but be careful, as some places make them really strong!

Know Before You Go to Bermuda

Best time to visit bermuda.

Bermuda’s latitude is similar to North Carolina’s in the United States. With its location in the Atlantic, it enjoys a temperate climate year-round. The high season in Bermuda is the summer when the beaches are most popular. Late April to mid-October are excellent months – and the shoulder months before or after the summer are the best. Cruise ships sail to Bermuda from the United States from April to November.

Keep in mind that Bermuda is located in an area prone to hurricanes. Hurricane season lasts from June 1 to November 30, with September the busiest hurricane month. But don’t let that deter you from visiting this beautiful island paradise! The island is well-equipped to deal with any weather emergency.

Bermuda Currency

Bermudians use the Bermudian Dollar. The exchange of the Bermudian Dollar to the U.S. Dollar is one-to-one. This means that travelers to Bermuda can easily use their U.S. Dollars to pay for items but should be aware that they may receive Bermudian Dollars as change.

Bermuda Language

As a former British colony, Bermudians speak primarily English, with some island influences. English speakers will have no problems in Bermuda.

Getting Around Bermuda

The island offers fantastic public transportation , from ferrie s to buses. Taxis are plentiful. You can even rent an electric vehicle. Read this blog for more transportation options.

Bermuda cruise guide: Best itineraries, planning tips and things to do

Melinda Crow

Is Bermuda on your cruise radar? Many people don't realize they can cruise to Bermuda because the itineraries are usually seasonal. You can't escape January's snowstorms by hopping on a cruise to Bermuda the way you can with a Caribbean cruise.

Plus, the itineraries are unusual because they mostly depart from Northeastern U.S. home ports (instead of Florida) and don't include stops in other destinations because Bermuda is a long way from other ports of call. If you love island-hopping and waking up in a new port every morning, you should know a Bermuda cruise isn't that.

But cruising to a single destination might be the most relaxing cruise you've ever done. Start your dreaming with this Bermuda cruise guide. It's got everything you need to know, including when you can cruise to Bermuda, when to book and what to pack.

Why cruise to Bermuda?

bermuda by cruise

Bermuda sits just 774 miles off the coast of New York, making it a prime island escape for upper East Coasters looking to experience the archipelago's stunning pink-sand beaches. But why should anyone else cruise to Bermuda , especially when there are so many other beachy islands to choose from?

For starters, the historic town of St. George's and its fortresses built in 1612 are a UNESCO World Heritage site. If history isn't your thing, maybe you can get excited about watersports or golf. Perhaps you'd prefer to visit stalactite-dotted caves or sample rum swizzlers.

You could experience all of that by flying to Bermuda and staying in a quaint inn or beachfront hotel. As fun as that sounds, a quick check of airfares and lodging prices shows us you'll pay more for that experience.

The cheapest seven-night package deal we could find flying between New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) and Bermuda, with a three-star, nonbeachfront hotel, was $1,480 per person, no meals included. Searches of cruise prices for matching dates consistently turned up options with lower prices, including $749 per person on Celebrity Eclipse in an outside cabin and $1,541 per person in a balcony cabin on Norwegian Gem. The cruises would include all meals onboard.

Cruising to Bermuda is easy from several East Coast port cities, with enough options among various cruise lines to stay within your budget — whatever that is. Plus, cruise fare includes food on board the ship and a relaxing (or fun-filled) day at sea getting there and back.

But the best reason to cruise to Bermuda is that cruise ships most often stay overnight in port. Guests come and go from the ship during stays of as long as fifty hours in port. You can pack in a lot of exploration into those hours.

When do cruises go to Bermuda?

bermuda by cruise

You might be surprised to learn that Bermuda cruises depart most months of the year. The prime Bermuda cruise season, however, takes place from April to October.

Norwegian Cruise Line operates the longest season, with cruises starting in every month except January and February. Premium and luxury lines like Silversea Cruises , Regent Seven Seas Cruises , Explora Journeys and Windstar Cruises offer seasonal transitioning cruises in spring and fall. Oceania offers one or two sailings per season that include Bermuda, throughout both the peak season and during the shoulder seasons.

Best Bermuda itineraries

The fun thing about Bermuda cruises is that you can easily find a cruise length that works best for you. Weeklong cruises stay in port longest for the most time exploring Bermuda — most often two nights. Fun four- or five-night getaways either don't stay overnight in Bermuda, or include a single overnight and a half-day stay on the second day. These can be easily added to a visit to East Coast departure ports, such as Manhattan, Boston and Baltimore.

Alternate ways to cruise to Bermuda include stopovers on some transatlantic cruises and on lengthier sailings that include stops in the Bahamas , the Caribbean or even on Canada and New England cruises.

Best Bermuda cruise lines

bermuda by cruise

As mentioned above, Norwegian offers the most sail dates, cruising from both Manhattan and Boston most of the year. Even though the line's itineraries are mostly seven nights, look for an occasional five-night choice, as well as lengthier cruises that include other destinations.

Carnival Cruise Line is easiest on your Bermuda budget, running multiple cruise lengths from multiple ports, starting at only four nights. Royal Caribbean leans heavily into five-night itineraries, but those can often be booked back-to-back with longer cruises to other destinations. MSC Cruises, a newer entrant in the Bermuda cruise market, sticks with seven-night cruises, though you can book those sailings back to back with ones that feature a week visiting Florida and the Bahamas for a 14-night island-hopping escape. All four of these lines are ideal for family or group travel.

To step up a notch, try Celebrity Cruises , which designs its ships with adults in mind. Celebrity sails a regular schedule of seven-night cruises from Cape Liberty in Bayonne, New Jersey, all featuring two nights in King's Wharf.

If you want a high-end experience and the aforementioned luxury lines aren't sailing when you want to travel, consider the exclusive ship-within-a-ship enclaves on MSC Cruises (Yacht Club) and Norwegian (The Haven).

Things to do in Bermuda

bermuda by cruise

Obviously, those pink beaches call like a siren song. Dockyard Beach and Snorkel Park Beach are the closest to the cruise pier in King's Wharf. Both are known for snorkeling. Butts Beach features picturesque rock formations scattered amid the sand, both in and out of the water. For long stretches of uninterrupted sand, try Elbow Beach.

When you've had your fill of beaches, you can explore multiple historical sites and popular landmarks in Bermuda.

Bermuda is Britain's oldest colony, so expect plenty of British charm along with a healthy dose of history. As a UNESCO World Heritage site, the town of St. George's doesn't have the only fortress on the island, just the largest. Fort St. Catherine was used by the British, the Bermudian militia and Royal Artillery units from 1612 until well into the twentieth century.

Museums abound in Bermuda, including the National Museum of Bermuda found at the Royal Naval Dockyard. Don't overlook the Bermuda Underwater Institute and the Bermuda Aquarium, Museum and Zoo.

Caves are also popular attractions in Bermuda. In fact, the airport sits on an island named Cave Island. Several caves are open to the public and shore excursions featuring them are common. Crystal and Fantasy Caves are part of one attraction offering tours, shopping and food. Cathedral Cave is located at Grotto Bay Beach Resort, but nonguests are allowed to visit the cave.

Lighthouses are scattered around the islands, but the two most popular to visit are Gibbs Hill and St. David's. All those lighthouses didn't do much to prevent disasters at sea. Bermuda is considered the shipwreck capital of the Atlantic Ocean. You can easily visit a few of the wreck sites by snorkeling, helmet dives and scuba. Others are a bit deeper and require certified scuba diving. Some are accessible from shore, but most require boat tours.

If you're into a bit of nighttime boating, consider an after-dark boat ride into the Bermuda Triangle, complete with ghostly tales.

Serious golfers delight in the seven courses in Bermuda — all worth checking out: Turtle Hill, Mid-Ocean, Port Royal, Tucker's Point, Ocean View, Newstead Belmont Hills and Five Forts. The rest of us can get into the putting action at Bermuda Fun Golf at the Royal Naval Dockyard.

Best Bermuda cruise ports

bermuda by cruise

Bermuda has three cruise ports: the main port at King's Wharf (also referred to as Royal Naval Dockyards), the capital city of Hamilton in the middle of the island and St. George's near the northeastern end. Most ships dock at King's Wharf because it's the only one that can service the larger ships.

If you can envision the map of Bermuda as a big fishhook, the Dockyards (and King's Wharf) are at the tip of the pointy part of the hook. Adjacent to the wharf, cruise passengers will find beaches, the National Museum of Bermuda, tour operators, mini golf and transportation options for getting around the entire cluster of islands, including ferry service to both Hamilton and St. George's.

Hamilton and St. George's are much smaller ports and only serve a handful of smaller ships each year. Look for cruises on Oceania, Windstar and Silversea that visit these.

When to book a Bermuda cruise

If you plan to cruise to Bermuda in the peak season, the best cabin selections and prices will be found months ahead of time. Black Friday deals might be the best option. You can find last-minute availability and often deals by booking outside the popular vacation months of June, July and August.

May and October both offer daytime temperatures near 80 degrees, making them ideal months to cruise to Bermuda, and you'll likely find the islands less crowded.

What to bring on a Bermuda cruise

bermuda by cruise

Bermuda is a bit dressier than, say, the Bahamas. Even shopping, touring or heading to the beach, you'll want to spiff things up a bit. Dress like you're headed to one of those golf courses or going sailing on a yacht, and you'll fit right in. A pair of Bermuda shorts and your best kicks will work just fine.

Bermuda weather is temperate, with only small seasonal variations. Average daytime highs rarely break 90 degrees, and the average lows almost never dip below 60 degrees. Layers are ideal; as with almost any island travel, you should plan for rain. Because your time in port might be lengthy, you'll need a backpack or tote to haul your stuff around all day.

Passports are not required on closed loop (departing and returning to the same U.S. port) dedicated Bermuda cruises but might be required by some cruise lines. Adult passengers without passports will need a certified copy of a birth certificate and a government-issued photo ID. Children under the age of 16 do not need a photo ID but must have a birth certificate.

Official rules aside, passports are strongly recommended, as they are required to return to the U.S. by air. In the event of an injury, illness or cruise alteration that requires a flight back to the U.S. rather than returning to the same port by sea, a passport would have to be procured while in Bermuda.

Bottom line

Cruising to Bermuda is often overlooked by those who don't live on the northern East Coast of the U.S. It's an island destination with a lot to explore, and luckily, cruise ships often give you the time to do that with overnight stays in port. Longer stays are actually the norm in Bermuda, not the rare exception. Those overnights lend themselves not only to deeper exploration but to a more relaxing trip. It's okay to sleep in and start your day a little later. It's fine to plan a late-afternoon adventure. You'll leave feeling like you really know the place.

The best part is that there are options to suit almost any schedule and budget — from family-friendly mainstream cruise lines to premium and luxe lines. And if all that isn't enough, cruises to Bermuda leave from ports of call worthy of exploration themselves. It's easy to add a Bermuda cruise to a stay in Manhattan or Boston. You're already there, so why not?

📍 Where is Bermuda on a Map?

Have you ever heard of the Bermuda Triangle? Well, this infamous area is between Miami , the Caribbean, and you guessed it- the island of Bermuda.

Being a popular cruise destination, most people actually assume Bermuda is part of the Caribbean. Actually though, this beautiful island is in west of the Atlantic Ocean, 650 miles east from the coast of North Carolina.

🌎 Which Country is Bermuda in?

When counting our countries, we have mixed feelings about whether we should be counting Bermuda or not. While locals consider it their own country, technically it is a British overseas territory. This means that it is park of the United Kingdom, but it is self-governing.

☀️ Is Bermuda Considered the Caribbean?

While Bermuda shares a lot of physical characteristics with the Caribbean, it is actually 900 miles north of it! So no, Bermuda is not considered the Caribbean.

How do You Get to Bermuda from the US?

Bermuda is one of the easiest vacation destinations to visit from the US, especially from New York or Miami ! You can either visit Bermuda on a cruise, or you can easily fly there on your own.

✈️ Flying to Bermuda

Bermuda has one international airport, which I have flown into once to start one of my contracts working on a cruise ship. The airport is very small, and super easy to fly into.

Bermuda International Airport is formally known as L.F. Wade International Airport (BDA), and is located in the parish of St George's, which is the north of the island.

You can find flights to Bermuda from either the US, Canada, or the UK. The cities that fly direct to Bermuda include Atlanta, Baltimore, Boston, Charlotte, Farmingdale, Fort Lauderdale, London, Montreal, New York , Philadelphia, Raleigh, Teterboro, Toronto, Turks & Cacios, and White Plains.

🛳 Visiting Bermuda on a Cruise

Visiting Bermuda on a cruise is definitely one of the best ways to experience this island, especially if you are in the NYC area, Boston, or near Miami. Companies that cruise to Bermuda include Carnival, Celebrity, MSC, Norwegian, Oceania, Regent Seven Sea, and Royal Caribbean.

We normally go on Royal Caribbean's ship out of Bayonne, NJ, or from one of NCL's ships straight out of Manhattan (this one has incredible views sailing out!).

The shortest cruise to Bermuda you can find is 5 nights, leaving from Bayonne, Manhattan, Brooklyn, or Baltimore, giving you 2 days/one night in Bermuda. The most common itinerary is a 7-day cruise, which has 3 days/two nights in Bermuda, which is the one that we recommend.

You can also find longer cruises up to fifteen days, on the more luxury ships of MSC or Oceania. These cruises leave from NY or Boston, and pair Bermuda with Caribbean islands on the itinerary.

The official language in Bermuda is English. The accent is actually quite unique, as it feels like a mix between the British and the American accent.

💷 Currency Used in Bermuda

Despite being part of the UK, Bermuda does have its own currency, which is the Bermudian dollar. It is equal to the USD, so every price you see will be the same in local currency or in US dollars.

Being frequented by so many Americans, it is pretty common that US dollars are accepted, so you will not need to exchange your money. However, if you use USD, a lot of times change will be given in Bermudian dollars. We would suggest using your credit card when you can, and bringing small bills with you if you are paying for anything in cash.

🔌 What Type of Plug is Used in Bermuda?

Bermuda uses the same electrical outlets as the UK, which is the for the plug that has three rectangular prongs in the shape of a triangle.

If you are taking a cruise to Bermuda, the cruise ships typically have both European and American outlets, but if you are visiting Bermuda by flight, you'll need to get a travel adapter.

🚰 Is the Water OK to Drink in Bermuda?

The water in Bermuda is clean, and is perfectly safe to drink from the tap. We would suggest bringing a reusable water bottle , and filling it up rather than purchasing plastic water bottles.

💸 Is Tipping Expected in Bermuda?

The tipping culture in Bermuda is actually more similar to the US than it is to the UK. It is pretty common to tip between 15-18% or up to 20% if you've had great service.

There are many restaurants that will add a service charge to the bill, so check this before adding an extra tip on top.

Don't have time to read the whole article and want to save it for later? Just pin it!

🧲 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #1: Check Out the Iconic Horse Shoe Bay

If you are visiting Bermuda on a cruise for just one day, then this is a typical go-to decision for cruisers.

Horse Shoe Bay, Bermuda on a cruise

Horse Shoe Bay is the most iconic beach in Bermuda, and is definitely a must-see! It has those quintessential turquoise waters, paired with Bermuda's stunning pink sands, and gorgeous cliffs surrounding it.

Growing up going on cruises to Bermuda, this is the exact spot that my family would go each year. You can easily spend the day enjoying this beach swimming in the calm waters, exploring the small coves, and jumping off the cliffs.

Just be ready for the crowds, as this is the number one tourist spot on the island! This time, we decided to go there for sunrise to escape those crowds, and actually doing that this is the time you will find all of the locals enjoying it!

Horse Shoe Bay is an incredible place to witness for sunrise.

Want to know more about visiting Horse Shoe Bay? We have a full guide coming up!

🚬 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #2: Relax at Tobacco Bay

Another one of the most popular beaches in Bermuda is located in the north of the island, in St Georges. Tobacco Bay features stunning hues of turquoise waters, and is actually one of the best places to snorkel on the island!

With unique rock formations and amazing waters, it's no wonder this spot has become so popular amongst tourists.

You can rent a chair and umbrella, or simply sit on the rocky areas for free. There is a restaurant as well, and you can rent snorkel gear to check out all of the unique marine life in this stunning cove!

Tobacco Bay is one of the most beautiful swimming spots in Bermuda.

🏝 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #3: Hop Around the Lesser Known Beaches

While most people flock to Horse Shoe Bay, there are actually so many stunning beaches around Bermuda! I personally prefer to go to the smaller beaches, as this is where you'll find less crowds, and some true hidden gems.

Some of the beaches that you can add to your list are actually right near Horse Shoe Bay! Warwick Long Bay, Jobson's Cove, Stonehole Bay, and Chaplin Bay are the neighboring beaches with pinker sands, less people, and some really stunning rock formations.

Want to know a few other hidden gems? Buy us a coffee and we will reveal all of the gorgeous spots from the pictures below!

One of the most fun things to do in Paraty is to visit a Cachacaria.

🌊 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #4: Go Jet Skiing

As an avid cruiser, jet skiing is one of my favorite activities. While most places in the Caribbean will rent out jet skis by the hour, in Bermuda they actually do jet ski tours. So rather than just riding around, you go on a tour of some of the coolest coastal spots on the island!

Jet skis can easily be found right on the pier of Kings Wharf where the cruise ships dock, making it a super accessible activity to do, and definitely one of the most fun things to do in Bermuda.

Jet skis are definitely not the cheapest excursion, but neither are most activities on this island, so it is definitely worth the splurge!

⛵️ Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #5: Charter a Boat

If there is one thing that we loved the most during our time in Bermuda, it was this!

Sailing around Bermuda is an incredible experience, and if you have a big group, then this is truly a must. Most cruise ships offer boat trips, and you can also find them right inside the port area. However, do not do these ones! They are short 1-2 hour cruises that are jam-packed with people, and run anywhere from $90-$120/person.

For that price you can actually charter a private boat for as many hours as you'd like! We did 5 hours, but definitely could have used a few more.

Here are a couple of boat charters you can use:

🤿 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #6: Go Snorkeling

There is a ton of marine life in Bermuda, so snorkeling is definitely something that you'll want to add to your list of things to do in Bermuda.

You can bring your own snorkel gear and explore the coves of different beaches, you can rent equipment at most beaches, or you can sign up for a boat tour that includes snorkeling.

If you happen to do a charter cruise, then chances are they will offer you the gear to snorkel, so it's a two-in-one. However, if you are traveling with a small group, you can find some fun boat trips that include snorkeling. We still suggest doing this outside of the cruise line, as they are cheaper online, and the tours tend to be longer.

Bermuda has incredible waters for snorkeling.

Here are a few excursions we found that include snorkeling in Bermuda:

🌈 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #7: Visit Hamilton

Hamilton is one of the cities in Bermuda worth checking out, featuring  pastel-colored colonial buildings, museums, and high-end shops. The city is just an easy ferry ride away from Kings Wharf, and is a lovely place to spend some time in the evening.

🎭 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #8: Experience Harbour Nights

If you plan on visiting Bermuda on a cruise in the summertime, then visiting Hamilton is a must! Every Wednesday from mid April til early September Hamilton has their famous Harbour Nights.

Starting at 7 pm and going until 10 pm there is live music, dance performances, and parades along Front Street. There are also local shops with kiosks to get handmade crafts, jewelry, and souvenirs, as well as a variety of food stalls to try Bermudian food and drinks.

Harbour nights are full of music, dancing, and food.

This is definitely one of the top things to do in Bermuda, so don't miss out!

Ferries tend to fill up very quickly, and don't run so often. Make sure to get there early so that you get a spot! The ferries you can choose from are the 5:45, 7:00, or 8:00, and are a half hour to get to Hamilton.

💎 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #9: Explore the Crystal Caves

While most of the top things to do in Bermuda have to do with the beaches, that's not all the island has to offer!

The Crystal Caves and Fantasy Caves are two stunning spots to experience, and tours to visit are at the same location. You can either visit one, or you can have a combo ticket to save a bit if you decide to visit both.

The caves are open from 9 am to 5 pm, but you must take a tour. The first tour is at 9:30 am, and the last tour is at 4:30 pm for either of the caves, and 4:00 pm is the last tour for the combination of visiting both caves.

Walk ins have very limited availability, so we highly suggest booking your tour in advance. You can do your reservation right on their website, or if you'd like transportation included, you can book a tour separately.

Crystal Caves, things to do in Bermuda on a cruise

The Crystal Caves are one of the top things to do in Bermuda other than the beaches.

Here are some tours that include the crystal caves in them:

✨ Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #10: Discover Hidden Caves

While the Crystal Caves and Fantasy Caves are the most famous caves on the island, Bermuda actually has an extensive cave system, with quite a few cool ones to visit around the island!

Head over to the Blue Hole Park and you will find an area with cliffs and caves to explore, completely free of charge. You can also check out Admiral's cave, which is where you'll find people walking through a passage to a window cave, as well as cliff jumping right next to it.

Finally, there is another incredible cave called Cathedral Cave. It is located on the property of a resort, but they let us in with no issues. It's the perfect spot for a cool dip, and is truly a unique spot for free of charge!

Cathedral Cave, things to do in Bermuda

Cathedral cave is a true hidden gem of Bermuda.

🧖🏻‍♀️ Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #11: Book a Spa Appointment Inside a Cave

Right next to Cathedral Cave is another cave you need to see. But it's not a cave for swimming, or for touring. It actually has a full spa inside! Natura Cave Spa is seriously one of the most unique spas we have ever seen, and if we had more time (or knew about it beforehand) we definitely would have booked an appointment.

It's part of the resort Grotto Bay, which we also highly recommend staying there if you are traveling to Bermuda on your own. It has a beautiful pool area, restaurants, the Cathedral cave, its own private beach, and a full aqua park!

🚶🏻‍♀️ Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #12: Wander the Streets of St Georges

Hamilton isn't the only city worth visiting in Bermuda! St George's is actually the oldest English settlement on the island, and has a ton of great things to see such as churches, fortresses, and streets of beautiful pastel-colored buildings.

St George's, things to do in Bermud on a cruise

St George's is the northernmost part of the island, but can easily be reached by ferry from King's Wharf in just 45 minutes for $5 each way.

There is a ferry right from King's Wharf to St George's.

⛪️ Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #13: Visit the Oldest Church in the Western Hemisphere

While you're in St George's, one of the top sites to check out is the St Peter's Church, which is the oldest standing Anglican church in Western Hemisphere! We heard from locals that you can also climb up the tower for some great views of the city, but unfortunately it was closed when we visited.

💒 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #14: Check Out the Unfinished Church

Just up the road from St. Peter's Church is another church worth checking out, which we actually liked even more! The church is actually a set of ruins from a neo-Gothic stone church, which was partially built in the late 1800's and was never actually completed.

unfinished church, things to do in Bermuda

🏰 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #15: Explore the Fortresses

St George's has quite a few forts lined up along the coast, some of which are more of ruins, and some which are pretty we in tact.

Some of the ones that you can check out for free are Gate's Fort, Alexandra Battery, and Fort Albert. The biggest and most complete fort is Fort St. Catherine, which has a full museum, and is $7 to visit.

There are a bunch of small forts around St George's.

🚨 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #16: Stop at St. David's Lighthouse

Another fun find for us was St David's Lighthouse, a cute red and white lighthouse found on St. David's Island, just under St. George's. Unfortunately you can't climb up, but it does have some pretty views due to its high location on the island.

⚓️ Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #17: Tour the Naval Dockyard

Alright, let's head back south near King's Wharf! If you plan on visiting Bermuda on a cruise, chances are your final day will be a half one, which means it's perfect for exploring things that are a bit closer to the ship.

Cruise ships dock right in the Naval Dockyard, which is a site in itself! There are tours you can take of the Naval Dockyard, or you can simply wander around and enjoy the dockyard yourself.

King's Wharf has a lot of history, and is right next to the ship.

⛳️ Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #18: Play at One of the World's Biggest Mini Golf Courses

If you're looking for something else fun to do for the family, or simply near the cruise dock, then you're in luck! There is a brand new mini golf course just steps away from the ship, and it is one of the biggest mini golf courses in the world!

With 18 challenging courses, this is a fun activity which is convenient and and great for all ages. It is open from 10 am to 10 pm, and they also offer glow-in-the-dark night time mini golf.

Bermuda has one of the biggest mini golf courses in the world!

🏴‍☠️ Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #19: Play at the Pirate Ship and Aqua Park

Right outside the ship is a fun pirate ship to have a drink on, and we used to always go to jump off the plank into the refreshing waters around it.

Now they have expanded and actually have a full aqua park! My whole family went and had a great time having drinks and playing around there. I hurt my leg so didn't get to participate, but it definitely looked like a great activity for those wanting to do something nearby the ship. It is $30, and the pass is for the whole day.

While I personally prefer to experience more of nature, this is a good option for those who wake up late their last day in Bermuda and just want to have a bit of fun outside.

🎉 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #20: Have a Night Out at Snorkel Park

One of the things I always look forward to the most in Bermuda is the night life! Every time we would visit Bermuda on a cruise we would go to Snorkel Park, which is beach club right next to the ship.

Now it has grown so much, and there are massive parties at night, and a variety of activities to experience during the day.

We didn't get to go this last time, as there was an outrageous cover charge ($50) for a private party, but we definitely suggest checking out their schedule and seeing if you can make it to one of the parties at night.

🏳️‍🌈 Things to Do in Bermuda on a Cruise #21: Attend a Special Event

Bermuda has a ton of great events that it offers! I have been there during golf retreats, sailboat races, and cricket tournaments. They also have a huge Pride Festival in August, as well as their massive 4-day Carnival celebration every June.

There are parades, food, music, parties, and so much more! We suggest checking out the Bermuda event calendar, as there are a ton of great events to experience in Bermuda all year long.

How Do Tourists Get Around in Bermuda?

Bermuda is a small island, making it very easy to get around! You can find a variety of ways to get around such as local buses, taxis, ferries and rentals.

🚗 The Different Ways to Get Around Bermuda

These are the different options you can choose from:

🚌 Buses in Bermuda

Most places in Bermuda can be accessed by taking one of the public buses. Prices depend on the parish in which you are traveling, and rides are pretty affordable.

🚕 Taxis in Bermuda

Taxis in Bermuda are pretty much the same as taking a bus, in that the more people you have doesn't make a difference in the price.

Drivers charge per head, and often cram as many people as possible into their vans. Often taxis will hover around hot spots and offer the same routes as buses, but try to get you to go with them to go faster.

The good thing is that you may get to leave faster, and if you have a big group you won't have to wait for the bus. You also might be able to bargain a bit for the price, and get it to a similar price as a bus would be. The downside is that they won't leave until they fill their van, which may mean you won't leave as soon as you would like.

⛴ Ferries in Bermuda

As far as public transportation goes, the ferry is definitely our favorite way to get around Bermuda. The ferries have similar prices to the buses, and connect King's Wharf, Hamilton, and St. George's, as well as Rockaway and Warwick. There are also stops in Watford Bridge, Cavello Bay, and Paget, across the four different ferries lines that are offered.

Below is the info for the ferry schedule this summer which we got from the official site:

🛵 Scooter Rentals in Bermuda

This is hands-down our favorite way to get around Bermuda! A scooter gives you the freedom to explore all that Bermuda has to offer, and is perfect for the adventurous should out there, or those that want to see it all while visiting Bermuda on a cruise.

We got our scooter for 3 days for $77. The more days you rent, the cheaper it is, and you can typically fit 2 people on one scooter.

scooter rental in Bermuda

🚙 Rental Cars in Bermuda

For a while it was actually illegal for tourists to rent cars in Bermuda! Now there is actually a company though that rents out tiny electric cars. This is definitely the most expensive option, starting at $130/day, typically for a 1-2 seater.

The plus side to having the car over a scooter though is that you have more room for your belongings, and are protected more in case the weather isn't favorable.

rental cars in Bermuda

Bermuda has small electric cars for rent.

🚲 Bike Rentals in Bermuda

Another fun way to get around for cheap is by renting a bike. It's super easy, as they are scattered around the island, and you can rent it straight from the app.

bike rental in Bermuda

Bikes are a super cheap and fun way to get around Bermuda.

🤑 What is the Cheapest Way to Get Around Bermuda?

The cheapest way to get around Bermuda definitely depends on how much you'd like to do! If you plan on staying near the port, or doing just 1 area per day, then the cheapest way will definitely be by taking the local buses.

If you plan on exploring a lot, then the scooter will be well worth it! We drove around the entire island, and only had to fill our tank once for $5, totaling just over $40 each to go everywhere in a 3 day span.

🚘 Are There Ubers in Bermuda?

Bermuda does not have Uber, nor does it have a ton of private taxis. If you want to get somewhere fast, then you may have to share your ride with other people, or wait for the taxi to fill up before getting from one destination to the next.

If you do have a specific ride in mind (for example to or from your hotel), you can ask a local to call and reserve a taxi for you.

Where to Stay in Bermuda If You Are Not Cruising

If you are visiting Bermuda on a cruise, you won't have to worry about your accommodation. However, if you plan to visit Bermuda by plane, then you'll need to choose a nice place to stay.

🏨 Where to Stay in Bermuda

As far as location goes, we would suggest either staying in Hamilton or St. George's. These are the most well-connected, and also have plenty of activities, as well as dining options.

If you plan on moving around by scooter or rental car, then we would suggest staying at one of the resorts that are in the center of the island. We particularly loved the look of Grotto Bay , as it had a ton of amenities, and was nearby a lot of great attractions!

Local Food & Drink

One of our favorite parts of traveling is to experience the local flavors of where we go! Bermuda happens to be a very expensive island though, so if you are visiting Bermuda on a cruise, we would suggest spending most of your meals on the ship.

That being said, we do suggest saving some room for the street food on front street in Hamilton during their harbor nights!

🍗 What Food is Popular in Bermuda?

Bermuda's cuisine has influence from both the UK, and the Caribbean. Fish is plentiful, and codfish is one of the most common which is incorporated into their diet.

As far as drinks go, rum is the most prominent, and the native brand is Goslings, which you'll find all over the shops, bars, and restaurants.

Here are a few of the foods that are the most popular in Bermuda:

  • Fish & Chips: this British classic brought its way over to the island
  • Fish Sandwich: a go-to for locals on their lunch break
  • Jerk Chicken: slow-cooked with a slightly spicy sauce
  • Fish Chowder: the national dish, which uses Goslings rum and spicy peppers poured over it
  • Codfish breakfast: boiled codfish topped with a tomato and onion sauce, and seared with boiled potatoes, hard boiled eggs, avocado, and a banana on the side
  • Mussel Pie:  a pie made with steamed mussels, often times with curry
  • Fish Cakes:  patty of salted codfish, potatoes, and onion, which is fried

🍹 What is the Drink of Choice in Bermuda?

The drink of choice in Bermuda is certainly rum! Goslings is the most popular brand that you will find, and can easily be purchased in shops, or found in all bars and restaurants. There are two popular drinks in Bermuda that are a must-try: the Rum Swizzle, and the Dark N' Stormy:

  • Rum Swizzle:  the national drink featuring Goslings rum, pineapple juice, orange juice, lemon, Bermuda falernum, and bitters
  • Dark N' Stormy:  Goslings rum and ginger beer

How Safe is Bermuda for Tourists?

Bermuda is a very safe island! While the Caribbean has many more dodgy areas, you'll have nothing to worry about on the island of Bermuda. We've walked around at night, and explored all over before the sun came up, and always felt very safe.

If you happen to visit the beaches for sunrise, you'll actually find that this is when all of the locals are out enjoying the places before the sun becomes intense, and before all of the tourists take over.

We went to Horseshoe Bay for sunrise, and it was very busy with local Bermudians. Everyone was so friendly, and being a small island, everyone is always smiling at one another, and genuinely in a good mood. The vibe in Bermuda is so great, and unlike many Caribbean islands, there is no haggling or harassment, making it so pleasant visiting Bermuda as a tourist.

Other Things to Know About Visiting Bermuda on a Cruise

Now that you know almost everything you need to know about visiting Bermuda on a cruise (or in general), here are a few other things to keep in mind while visiting.

☀️ Weather in Bermuda

Bermuda has tropical climate, and is pretty similar to the Caribbean. However, unlike the Caribbean islands, temperatures can drop in Bermuda in the winter time. We've heard from locals that temperatures in December and January can drop down to the sixties, or sometimes even as low as the fifties!

The summers are extremely hot and humid, and the sun is very strong in Bermuda. Overall, Bermuda has much warmer weather than most places in the US year-round, and it makes a great tropical escape.

best months to visit Bermuda

Bermuda is a tropical island with a lot of sunshine.

📆 What Month is Bermuda Best to Visit?

The best time to visit Bermuda is either a little before the summer, or after, when the weather is milder, and it is less crowded. After speaking with locals, we've gathered that the best months to visit Bermuda are in April or May, or in November.

From June to August the weather is extremely hot, and this is when the island becomes the most crowded, while August to October is hurricane season. March is spring break for Americans, which is when you'll see the most children, and the months of March, July, and August are when cruises are the most expensive.

If you'd like to escape the crowds, and have the most pleasant temperatures, then the spring and late fall are the most ideal for visiting Bermuda. If you'd like to experience Harbour nights, then definitely make sure you visit between the months of May to August, and if you'd like to experience Bermuda's carnival, June will be the best month to visit.

Bermuda has warm weather for the majority of the year.
