This is the worst travel agent in the area, Stay Away! Some of the "agents" try to push this polite and sweet talk but they are unprofessional. The agent I dealt with stopped returning calls. She dragged the whole paperwork for a long time until reservations expired and we lost seats on the needed flight. She booked a time other than what we expressed explicitly without consulting with us. That was really bizarre. They charged me extra fees for voided ticket even if I politely asked for a waiver. I ended up booking my own ticket through the airline directly which was done literally in 15 minutes compared with days of troubled, unorganized agent who didn't seem to consider me a customer for some reason.

Photo of Laura M.

Awful service. Georgette claimed that if we wanted to change the date of our return flight, the fee would be $200, which we thought was reasonable. So when it came time to change the date, lo and behold, the fee was in fact $600! We will tell everyone we know, and will absolutely never use them again, and neither should you!

Although most of the time there is always a penalty which applies whenever a ticket is changed or cancelled, the amount of which depends on the airlines itself, there could also be further charges. The reason why in your case and many others is referred to as a "difference in fare" which is dictated by the availability of seats and airline procedure. In other words, the price of the ticket went up therefore resulting in you the client not only having to pay the penalty for change/cancellation but the difference in price has to be paid directly to the airlines as well. We are sympathetic towards your inconvenience and at Haddad Travel we strive to accommodate all our costumers needs in a personal and professional manner.

Photo of Pavan I.

Ive been dealing with Georgette from Haddad Travel for roughly a year now. Shes a consummate professional, always asking me questions about the destination and finding ways to accommodate me. The prices are excellent and well worth the investment for the small business. The care that Haddad takes of their client is second to none. I will always pick up the phone and call Haddad Travel to make my flight bookings, she even recently gave me a quote for my hotel accommodations as well, which were very competitive. This place is a one stop shop, they have always answered the phone, always been courteous, always called me back promptly in response to my travel itinerary. Georgette and team are the best!

Photo of Traveller W.

Warning!!! Stay away those big time thefts, my flight has been rescheduled and never been notified by the agent plus I was scammed regarding the ticket price and lied about the allowed baggage wight that caused me been charged $200 extra @ airport plz stay away u been warned

Breaking news, i’m a doctor — these are the 5 medical essentials i pack when i travel.

Don’t get caught tryin’ to wing it at 30,000 feet.

Summer is peak travel season, and Dr. Sasha Haddad , an LA-based family practitioner, has taken to TikTok to share her list of essential medical travel supplies — as well as the knowledge that it’s better to have it and not need it than to need it and not have it.

The five items in Haddad’s flying pharmacy are medications to ease an upset stomach, an allergy drug, a first-aid kit, Advil and bug spray.

Stomach medications

haddad travel

Haddad recommends travelers, particularly adventurous and voracious eaters, keep Pepto-Bismol in their carry-ons.

The pink stuff treats nausea and diarrhea caused by the stomach flu or food poisoning. This over-the-counter medication works by killing harmful bacteria, reducing intestinal inflammation and slowing down the flow of fluids and electrolytes into the bowels.

Haddad also suggests Zofran, a prescription medication, for nausea and vomiting.

OTC allergy medication

haddad travel

Haddad, seen holding an OTC allergy medication, warns travelers, “Yes, Italy is green & beautiful. Tell that to your sinuses!”

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention , about 25% of adults and nearly 19% of children  report having seasonal allergies .

Symptoms can range from annoying — sneezing and a stuffy nose — to downright miserable — itchy, watery eyes, congestion, fatigue, coughing and post-nasal drip.

New environments can mean new irritants for allergy sufferers, and experts recommend taking meds early to prevent symptoms instead of having to combat them.

First-aid kit

travel-essentials-i-never-leave-86035977

Haddad never leaves home without a first-aid kit — it’s even more important to be prepared for emergencies when traveling.

“Wait until you scrape your leg trying to jump into the water in Greece,” she explained.

The Post stans  these eight first-aid kits , which can be great for the home, car or suitcase.

travel-essentials-i-never-leave-86035974

Haddad always packs a pack of Advil, handy for treating hangovers, fever, muscle pain or menstrual cramps.

She maintains, “If the Aperol spritz didn’t give you a headache, something else might!”

OFF! bug spray

haddad travel

Bug bites can be a real buzzkill on vacation , so Haddad packs OFF! “for the insects that can’t wait to meet you when you get there.”

A person who commented on Haddad’s TikTok post last week suggested travelers instead invest in mosquito wipes to avoid carrying liquids through airport security.

The CDC recommends looking for mosquito repellents with the active ingredients DEET, IR3535, picaridin or oil of lemon eucalyptus , among others.

You can also treat clothes and outdoor gear with the insecticide permethrin to protect against ticks and mosquitoes.

Moonrise: Chef Solemann Haddad’s elevated dining experience takes Dubai’s culinary scene to new heights

The kurator, the kurator life.

The unique concept of'Moonrise is inspired by the chef's heritage and upbringing in Dubai

Chef Solemann Haddad

Chef Solemann’s journey to culinary excellence is as inspiring as the dishes he dreams up. Despite his young-ish age and being mostly self-taught, his unwavering commitment to pushing boundaries has propelled him to the upper echelons of the culinary world and earned him coveted accolades starting with one Gault & Millau Toque and Future Great of the Year in 2022, and the Michelin Dubai Young Chef Award that same year, leading up to two Toques and a prestigious Michelin Star in 2023.

“Being relentless and adaptable have been crucial,” reflects Solemann, speaking of his journey so far. “I’m always looking for new ways to do things and I like to challenge traditional methods. I think my drive to innovate and a refusal to be constrained by convention have not only shaped my cooking style but also opened doors to these opportunities.”

The unusual concept of Moonrise is deeply rooted in the young chef’s “…heritage and upbringing in Dubai, a melting pot of cultures.” With a Syrian father and French mother, he was introduced to diverse flavours at an early age, complementing his exposure to Asian cuisines in the city. Add to that his brief training in Tokyo that laid a strong foundation for him to build his skills in Japanese cuisine on, and you have the perfect recipe for gastronomic fusion. “I wanted Moonrise to reflect this eclectic mix, honouring the city’s diverse culinary landscape,” he shares.

The restaurant itself reflects in its design the essence of Chef Solemann’s creations, seamlessly blending modernity with -natural elements. The tranquil ambiance “sets the table” for an unforgettable dining experience, where each dish is a feast for the palate as well as the senses.

“The natural elements reflect the freshness of our ingredients, while the modern aesthetics provide a clean, sophisticated backdrop, allowing the food to take center stage,” he explains.

But what truly sets Moonrise apart is Solemann’s ability to evoke nostalgia through his dishes. “Each plate I create tells a story, whether it’s our 1990s Alfredo’ lobster pasta based on the cafeteria pastas I loved as a kid, or a food memory such as our ‘Grilled Cheese’, a take on the first thing I ever learned to cook.” It’s actually by drawing on personal experiences that the wunderkind creates a deep connection with diners, going beyond mere sustenance.

The dining experience at Moonrise engages the senses and narrates tales of aromas and tastes.

As the meal concludes, a small ‘bonfire’ is lit, filling the restaurant with a smoky aroma reminiscent of friendly desert gatherings and creating scentful memories that linger long after the last bite.

Looking to the future, Chef Solemann envisions a dining landscape that embraces seasonality and sustainability. As preferences evolve, he believes “Chefs will increasingly tailor their menus based on what is available locally and seasonally, enhancing both the culinary experience and the environmental impact.”

At Moonrise, innovation is not just a buzzword that’s carelessly thrown around—it’s a way of life.

Chef Solemann’s focus on seasonal ingredients ensures that each dish bursts with freshness. “Summer calls for fresh, vibrant flavours.” As the shiny season warms the region, he draws inspiration from local produce such as local soil-grown tomatoes, crafting crisp, unexpected dishes like ‘Roots’, which Solemann describes as “a tart with labneh, zaatar from our accountant’s mom in Syria and Nori Furikake,” or a ceviche of aged Shima Aji sashimi or the seriously punchy tomato leche de tigre with its 7 ingredients exploding with signature Moonrise acidity and distinct flavour.

When it comes to summer weddings, Chef Solemann advises against heavy dishes. Instead, drawing from his expertise, he recommends lighter dishes, for example: “a delicate Jalapeño & Zaatar Leche De Tigre. It’s refreshing, elegant and refined enough for a festive occasion.” And because I too am a big foodie who enjoys sharing good food and interesting recipes, I’m including with this feature, the recipe for this surprising and amazing amalgam of Middle Eastern and Asian flavours that Chef Solemann was kind enough to reveal.

Speaking of revelations, I discovered that Solemann’s favourite ingredient is in fact not an ingredient, but rather a flavour profile: “I love acidity. It really forms the backbone of our signature vibe at Moonrise.” In summer, he delights in using mangoes—incidentally, my favourite fruit—harnessing their sweetness and texture to take any dish to new heights. At Moonrise, the young chef’s favourite dish is the signature pani puri ‘Explosion’, a culinary symphony encapsulating the restaurant’s ethos of cultural fusion in one bite.

As a chef who honed his skills mostly on his own, learning through books, experimentation and “a whole lot of YouTube”—yes, you read that right, Chef Solemann offers sage advice to aspiring chefs: “Stay curious, open to learning. Never let failure deter you; it’s an essential part of your growth. Avoid being overly critical of your unique style.” Come to think of it, those wise words would benefit anyone with ambition.

And as for his ultimate goal, it’s simple yet profound—to leave a lasting impact on the culinary world, championing change and inspiring the next generation of chefs.

His ultimate ambition “is to leave a lasting impact on the culinary world by championing change when it comes to the stereotypical professional kitchen culture,” declares Solemann, who believes he and the whole industry have a responsibility to create a positive kitchen environment. “My goal is to put Dubai on the global culinary map and show the youth of the region that if you can dream it, you can make it happen.”

In a city where haute couture, luxe and haute everything are at every corner, Chef Solemann Haddad and Moonrise stand as beacons haute cuisine with their innovation and excellence—a testament to the power of passion, creativity and a relentless pursuit of culinary perfection.

A Guide To Moscow's Trendiest Neighborhoods

Moscow City

In 2017, much of the charm of Pushkin’s Moscow can only be found in books. During the Soviet Union, architects and artists under strict orders from the government built over the gilt and gleam of the Tzars, creating structures to accommodate the needs of a rapidly urbanizing country. Soviet city planning, in its own way, is a masterpiece of uniformity. But that doesn’t mean you won’t find anything unique about Moscow– you definitely will. Below is a guide to Moscow’s trendiest neighborhoods.

Kitay-gorod.

In Russian, the name means Chinatown; but you’ll be hard pressed to find anything Chinese about this neighborhood. ‘Kitay’ used to mean ‘weaving’ in medieval Russian, which might explain the rather chaotic layout of the area. For over 400 years, this neighborhood near the Kremlin has offered a colorful cross section of Russian society— immigrants, artists, gamblers and wanderers. With its winding streets, Kitay-Gorod rejects conformity. Squatters inhabit run-down mansions; artists have their studios in old monasteries and factories. The neighborhood is also famous for its nightlife with clubs and bars.

Kitaygorod

Zamoskvorechye

Zamoskvorechye, meaning “behind the Moscow river,” offers a blend of old and new Moscow. Sections of the main street are for pedestrians only, which has brought hip new businesses, restaurants and cafes to a part of the city that a tourist probably wouldn’t visit otherwise. City planners are now thinking of turning the neighborhood into a test model “smart city” by revamping the infrastructure, adding bike stations, new types of signs and other firsts for Moscow.

Zamoskvorechye

This neighborhood is sometimes called Moscow’s Meatpacking District. Until the late 19th century, Khamovniki was one of the city’s quietest neighborhoods and Leo Tolstoy even had his Moscow home there. But the quietude didn’t last. Like much of Russia during Soviet times, Khamovniki became saturated with textile and brick factories. Fortunately, the spirit of the area outlived Soviet industrialization, and its empty warehouses now house advertising and tech companies like Leo Burnett and Yandex. With so many young professionals in the area, there are some of Moscow’s trendiest cafes, bars and restaurants.

Khamonivki │

Patriarch Ponds

A short walk from Tverskaya Street, one of the busiest roads in Moscow, you can a neighborhood without the architectural headaches that characterize much of Russia. Patriarch Ponds has long been a hub of Moscow’s intelligentsia. Mikhail Bulgakov and Maksim Gorky lived there, and with its narrow streets around a picturesque pond, it’s easy to see why. Patriarch Ponds is a also must for foodies. You can find all types of cuisine here, from French to Finnish. Unlike the many restaurant chains found throughout the rest of Moscow, independent chefs like the Berezutsky brothers run the eateries in Patriarch Ponds’.

Patriarch Ponds

Vin Zavod/Artplay

You wouldn’t know it from the drunks and dirt of nearby Kursky railway station, but Vin Zavod– sometimes referred to as Artplay– is one of the coolest parts of Moscow. Vin Zavod means “wine factory” in Russian, and the neighborhood is just that. The huge factories which once churned out wine and other products in the Soviet days are now art galleries, theaters , cafes and book stores. Sergey Kuznetsov, Moscow’s principal architect, wants to take Vin Zavod even further and add miles of bicycle lanes and parking for electric cars. In European cities, Kuznetsov’s idea probably wouldn’t make news; but for Russia, it’s huge.

Artplay │

ZIL is the essence of the Soviet Union crammed into 2 million square meters. The 1960s-era factory complex takes up an entire part of southern Moscow which produced cars, military equipment and other heavy machinery until very recently. Early in his tenure as Moscow mayor, Sergey Sobyanin vowed to transform the defunct ZIL into something more altruistic– and he did it. Buildings within the complex now house an experimental theatre collective and Rambler-Afisha, a rapidly expanding media company.
