Great Barrier Reef - Day Trip

Our 14 metre MV Adrenalin offers fully shaded areas, sun deck, stabilisers, toilet, shower, along with easy access in and out of the water while 20 metre MV Endorphin has a spacious flybridge, main deck with benches, tank racks, saloon, dry area, toilet and shower, and a large sundeck at the rear of the vessel with stairs that allow easy access in and out of the water.

The Central Section of the Great Barrier Reef is a little further off the Queensland Coast than other sections and as a result has some of the best sites in the whole Great Barrier Reef. We have a number of sites in the region and will choose the best site on the day dependent on weather and other contributing factors. Some sites feature large coral bommies with white coral sand sea floors, while others have large gutters running through the coral occupied by hundreds of reef fish, and colorful coral walls occupied by innumerable marine animals in crystal clear water.

Depths on the reefs range from 1 metre to 20 metres making it ideal for snorkellers, beginner and experienced divers. Big schools of Trevally and bait fish are common as well as a myriad of colourful reef fish including Parrot fish, Maori wrasse, Clown fish, Angel fish, Turtles, Stingrays, White tip and Black tip reef sharks often sighted.

Snorkellers can take the opportunity to explore the underwater world on a Discover Scuba Dive . No prior experience in diving is needed as you will be guided through the basic safety and water skills needed and dive under the direct supervision of one of our friendly and professional Instructors.

Diving at dive site Kelso Reef

Send us your images for this dive region [Add Image] [Add Movie]

From Townsville and Magnetic Island, Kelso reef is one of the best known and frequently visited reefs. It has crystal clear waters and many different species of coral and fish. Hard and soft corals such as brain coral, hedge corals, honeycomb corals and plate corals. Fish from the small angel fish to the huge cod, but also crown-of-thorns starfish and giant clams can be seen on a normal dive.

Name: lars , © Author: Lars Hemel

This time I was the COTS dive leader and I had to explain and show how and where to find the Crown of Thorn starfish. My dive buddy Alan was expecting me to point them out to him, but as ever, I couldn't find them easily. We found two on our first dive and seven on the second; all very large examples.

At my first COTS dive I didn't caught any. I did see a few beautiful clams, anemone fish and parrot fish. Loads of blue sea stars and moray eels. The second dive I removed two crown of thorn starfish from the reef. A huge Maori Wrasse was also following us during this dive.

The Kelso Reef is a very popular and crowded reef with many student, novice and professional divers. We were diving with a tank of acid on our back to find Crown of Thorn Starfish who are eating the coral reefs.

We had to put the acid in each of its legs (starfish) with a kind of gun we were wearing underwater. They were pretty difficult to find and in two dives with a great lunch in between Michael and I only found 3 crown of thorn starfish.
