2024 Cruise Vacation Site Reviews

Priceline Review

  • Popular 7-day cruise: $100+ less than buying direct
  • Luxury 7-day cruise: $450 less than buying direct
  • One-stop-shop for a full travel itinerary
  • Regular deals if you subscribe
  • Accredited by the BBB
  • Processing fee of $24.99

Priceline, known for its innovative approach to booking flights and hotels, offers a similar service for cruises. Their search features include as many criteria as possible, and their cruise landing page offers you quick looks at popular cruise options with pricing visible.

Price match guarantee offsets booking fee

Despite this user-friendly model, Priceline unfortunately charges a nonrefundable booking fee of $24.99 for cruise vacations. However, they do offer special deals for those who sign up for email notifications as well as last-minute cruises if you want an impromptu vacation. One positive aspect of Priceline is that they offer a Price Match Guarantee program, which can help offset the downside of their booking fee.

Modern and comprehensive search

The search function for Priceline is user-friendly and has a modern design. The site offers cruises from 30+ cruise lines including popular, budget-friendly lines, luxury cruises, and river cruises. However, it's hard to look deeper into the cruise listings without losing your spot on the page. If you want to compare cruises, you'll have to open the particular itinerary in a different tab or window to keep scrolling on the Priceline site. We wish there was a compare feature that made it easy to look at multiple cruises at the same time.

Averages at $100 cheaper than buying direct

To compare Priceline's options with competing costs, we looked at one luxury and one popular cruise line and compared 7-day Caribbean trips. For the luxury cruise line, we looked at a 7-day Caribbean cruise with Oceania. The cost for an interior stateroom on Priceline was $1,349. The same room was $1,799 on Oceania's website. For the popular cruise line, we looked at a 7-day Caribbean cruise with Royal Caribbean. The cost was $651 for an interior stateroom on Priceline, and $749 if you booked directly with Royal Caribbean. Even with the $24.99 processing fee from Priceline, the price difference is amazing. You're getting a better deal at Priceline than buying directly.

Best Cruise Vacation Sites

Stands out with reviews on vacation listings

One thing we liked about Priceline is that each cruise vacation listing offers reviews in the top right corner to let you know how popular that cruise vacation has been with travelers in the past. And since Priceline offers options for other travel itinerary items, you can book flights or hotels in the same place for a one-stop vacation shop.

Well-rated for customer service

Speaking of reviews and business ratings, Priceline is accredited by the BBB with a "B+" rating. Though a 2-star average out of 5 isn't amazing, it is better than several options in this review. Reviewers at Trustpilot were the happiest, awarding Priceline a 75% positive user rating. The satisfied reviewers covered topics like how easy it was for them to book with Priceline and repeated comments about how stellar the customer service representatives were at Priceline. The lower reviews noted that users had trouble getting their money back after cancellations, even when the cancellation wasn't their fault.

Great budget-friendly option

Priceline's cruise booking service is a great option for travelers who want great prices on their next cruise vacation. The website's user-friendly search function and modern design make it easy to find and book the perfect cruise. Although the $24.99 non-refundable booking fee is a drawback, Priceline's Price Match Guarantee program and special deals for email subscribers make it an attractive option. Additionally, Priceline's prices are on average $100 cheaper than buying directly from the cruise line itself.

Popular with customers

While the reviews aren't as high as we'd like, it is more popular with customers than many options in this review. Overall, if you're looking for a great deal on a cruise vacation, or somewhere to book a complete vacation package, Priceline is a website worth checking out. For these reasons, we put it as our second-place option in this review.

The 7 Best Cruise Vacation Sites

What's the best place to book a cruise vacation.

You've finally got some time off, and you've decided you want the full-experience: sailing, relaxing, and new and exciting ports of call everywhere you go. With meals and (sometimes) drinks included, who wouldn't want to sit back, relax and let a cruise crew take care of you during a well-deserved vacation?

Whether you're taking a quick 3-day trip or you're looking for a long experience-packed cruise, there's options out there for everyone. But finding the right company to book your cruise through can be overwhelming. While some people like to book directly with a cruise line, booking through a travel site or an agency can often lead to big cost savings.

Continued from above...

Booking a cruise through a travel agency or booking site can provide you with helpful comparisons of various cruise lines, ships, and itineraries all in one place. A good site allows for easy searching so you can find the cruises that best match your preferences. Travel agents have access to exclusive discounts, promotions, and package deals that may not be available to the general public.

Plus, with many sites you can book other travel arrangements you need at the same time. Want to take a cruise from Spain? A vacation website can help you find the best deals on flights, hotels, and other travel arrangements so your cruise can go off without a hitch.

Online travel agencies are a popular choice for booking cruises. In a survey conducted by Statista in 2020, 61% of respondents who had booked a cruise in the past two years said they had used a travel agency to make the arrangements. The survey found that users booked cruises through travel agencies to get peace of mind and convenience. A good travel agency will provide you with support and assistance, ensuring that you have a stress-free and enjoyable vacation.

Cruising is an amazing experience, and you deserve to really enjoy your time off. Finding the right online travel agency to book your cruise vacation is essential to having a stress-free experience. So, how can you pick the best place to book your next cruise vacation?

Here are several factors to keep in mind as you search for the best seafaring voyage.

  • Cost. Many online travel agencies offer deals and packages that aren't available anywhere else. However, there are sometimes fees associated with purchasing from the agency. Do you only care about the best deal possible? Or are you looking to invest a little more money in a secure and easy travel itinerary? It's important to find a good balance between value and cost.
  • Locations. One of the best parts of a cruise vacation is sailing to new countries and seeing the sites. Some travel sites will offer different options, so if you're looking for a particular location or a dream cruise, make sure that the travel site has what you need.
  • Entertainment. When you're booking a cruise, you have to remember some of your time will be spent at sea. Without port excitement to keep you busy, what are you going to do on the ship? When looking at where you want to book your next cruise, take into account the on-ship entertainment options, drink packages, and shows of each cruise line and itinerary before you make your selection.
  • Full itinerary. What kind of options does the travel site have for your whole itinerary? Do you need to fly to your cruise port? Do you need a hotel to stay a few days before the cruise starts? Or are you only looking for the cruise itself? Keep in mind what other kinds of travel you might be doing when you book your next cruise.

To help you streamline the booking process for your next at-sea getaway, Top Consumer Reviews has reviewed and ranked the best sites that offer cruise vacations available today. We hope this information helps you relax and enjoy your next voyage with confidence about your entire travel itinerary. Bon voyage!

You are probably familiar with Priceline, an online travel agency (OTA) you can use to book flights, hotels, rental cars, cruises, and more.

The key thing that differentiates Priceline from its competitors is its opaque  travel booking products. If you’re willing to be flexible with your travel plans (to the point of not knowing which airline you’re flying or what hotel you’re staying at when you make a reservation), you might be able to snag a deep discount.

As part of Booking Holdings Inc. — which includes Booking.com, Agoda, Kayak, Momondo, and other OTAs and metasearch sites — Priceline has also been able to use its combined resources to build its published-rate hotel offerings. Its Name Your Own Price tool has ceased to exist as an option, but low prices are offered through its other opaque tools — Express Deals  and Pricebreakers .

Below, we’ll take a look at the various services offered by Priceline, including how to use it to find the best prices on flights, hotels, rental cars, and more!

Booking a hotel on Priceline is straightforward. Enter your search preferences, pick a hotel, and confirm your reservation, just like with any other OTA like Travelocity or Expedia . Although Priceline has a few extra options to help you find a great rate, there can be some additional terms.

How To Book a Hotel on Priceline [Step-by-Step]

To search for a hotel on Priceline, enter a destination, choose your check-in and check-out dates, and specify the number of rooms you need.

Priceline hotels

By default, results are organized in recommended  order, determined by a combination of user reviews, general ratings, and price. You can change this to sort results by price or customer rating instead. Semi-opaque Pricebreaker options, in which you’ll get 1 of 3 hotels listed, will also be suggested at the top of the search results. If you have tons of flexibility, check out the Express Deals , completely opaque bookings in which you won’t know the hotel you booked until your reservation is complete.

At the top, you can switch to Map View, or even select from top filters. On the left sidebar, you can adjust filters for amenities, budget, guest rating, neighborhood, and hotel brand. If you have a specific property in mind, you can also search for it by name.

The terms and conditions vary between properties, so make sure to read everything before making a reservation. If your travel plans are concrete, you can usually save money with a prepaid and/or non-refundable rate.

Some properties require payment at the time of booking, while others allow you to pay at check-in. You can see each hotel’s policy on the results page — if a hotel says Pay Later  your card won’t be charged (unless you choose to pay upfront). If the hotel allows you to cancel the reservation without penalty, Priceline highlights that as well.

Hot Tip: Keep in mind that taxes aren’t included in the rate shown on the results page or a specific property’s profile page — you’ll see all additional fees included once you choose a room and rate. When comparing prices between different websites and services, it’s always good to check the total price rather than the initial per room rate.

Select any hotel by clicking Choose your room , which will bring up the hotel’s page to select your room type. You’ll be able to review payment and cancellation terms, guest ratings, and amenities. Scroll further down to select your room type, then click Book.

Toggle the button above the results to see the true  total price, including taxes and fees. This will also be displayed before you checkout.

How to book a hotel room on Priceline

Enter your personal and payment details, then click Complete Booking .

Trip Protection

Before completing your reservation, you’ll be offered the opportunity to add Trip Protection, a travel insurance product offered by Allianz through Priceline.

Priceline hotel trip protection

While adding this protection is a personal choice, it’s important to understand that there may be no need to purchase extra insurance if you have a credit card with travel insurance like trip cancellation insurance or travel accident insurance . in your wallet.

Hot Tip: Check out our guide to credit card insurance for more information about the various protections and benefits offered by different credit cards.

Best Price Guarantee

Priceline VIP members that can find a better deal within 24 hours of making their air, hotel, rental car, and cruise reservations can submit a Best Price Guarantee claim to Priceline for the difference.

For Express Deals, Priceline members who find a better price up to midnight before they travel can be refunded 200% of the difference.

To make a claim for a hotel, you’ll need to contact Priceline by phone at 800-PRICELINE (800-774-2354). The representative will check the lower rate to verify it. Note that to qualify, the lower rate must be available to the public and have the same availability.

Hot Tip:  Rates booked through loyalty program discounts are excluded from the Best Price Guarantee, meaning that if there’s a membership discount (even one that’s available to the general public), Priceline may not honor it.

Price Comparisons — Hotels

Let’s take a look at some price comparisons to see how Priceline stacks up against other online travel agencies and hotel websites.

We priced out a 3-night stay in a deluxe king suite at the Conrad New York Downtown for 2 adults (refundable rate) and here’s how the prices stacked up.

In this example, Priceline had the cheapest overall rate, with Hilton itself coming in ~$72 more. You would have to weigh the overall cost savings compared to any benefits you may receive from a loyalty program like Hilton Honors since you don’t receive any elite status benefits or earn any hotel points when booking through a third party like Priceline.

Bottom Line: When you book a hotel through a third party like Priceline, you generally won’t be able to collect hotel loyalty points . Also, the property likely won’t honor any elite status you hold. For example, if you hold Hilton Honors Gold elite status, you wouldn’t get a room upgrade or food and beverage credit if you booked through Priceline.

Priceline Pricebreakers

Priceline Pricebreakers

One of Priceline’s opaque products, Pricebreakers gives travelers a heavily discounted price on one of 3 similar hotels. You will be able to see details for the 3 hotels before your purchase, including the shared amenities, location, reviews, and average retail rates. You will be guaranteed to secure a room at one of the 3 properties at the price shown, with the “winning” hotel revealed after confirmation of your purchase.

Pricebreakers is similar to Hotwire’s Hot Rates with the added benefit of narrowing down the possible hotel to one of 3 guaranteed options across various amenities and star ratings. You can also create your own deal at the bottom of the options by selecting 3 amenities and 3 neighborhoods that will help narrow the deals shown to you.

Priceline Express Deals

The basic premise of Express Deals is that Priceline can provide a deep discount on a hotel, but it won’t tell you where you’re actually staying until you confirm the reservation. Bookings are prepaid, non-refundable, non-changeable, and non-transferable … so basically, you’re stuck once you make the booking.

From the main Hotels page, you can scroll down until you see an option to Search Express Deals , or you can simply enter the city, the number of rooms, and check-in and check-out dates and filter by Express Deals at the top of the results page.

Priceline Hotels Express Deals

The results page looks exactly like the standard hotel search results, except that instead of hotel names you’ll only see star ratings. For example, the top result might be “4-Star Hotel.” If you click the What Hotel?  link, you’ll see a map with the hotel’s general location shaded and a list of similar hotels in the area.

Because you can’t even read guest reviews before committing — only an average rating by guests — any hotel booked through Express Deals is a bit of a gamble. You have no way of knowing exactly where you’re staying. If you’re flexible or more easy-going, this means you can get a great deal. Otherwise, it might be worth paying a bit more so you know the details of the hotel before you book.

The good news is that Priceline’s Best Price Guarantee applies, and Priceline members who find a better price up to midnight before they travel can be refunded 200% of the difference.

Bottom Line:  Priceline’s Express Deals feature can help you save up to 60% off a hotel, but you won’t know the actual hotel until you make a non-refundable reservation. If you are flexible, this can be a great deal.

How To Book a Flight on Priceline [Step-by-Step]

Booking flights on Priceline is a straightforward process, similar to any other OTA.

You start by entering details of your trip: the departure and arrival cities, dates, cabin, and the number of people traveling. You can also search for a one-way or multi-stop trip instead of a standard round-trip flight.

Priceline flights

If your dates are flexible, you can see variable pricing across the calendar when inputting your search parameters.

Priceline Flights price calendar

By default, results are shown in price order. You can use controls on the left sidebar to filter results by the number of stops, departure or arrival time, total travel duration, and airline. If your travel involves a city with multiple airports, you can also specify which one you’d prefer.

At the top, you can also search by flexible dates to see pricing a day before and after your selected dates.

Priceline Flights search results

Once you select any departing flight, you’ll see options for the return flight. Any pricing at +$0.00  will not affect your total price, but you may see cheaper or more expensive options for your return.

Once you have selected your flights you’ll see a confirmation of the departure and return, baggage information, and also have an option to select your seats before continuing to checkout. Enter your passenger and billing details, then review and book.

Price Comparisons — Flights

Using the straightforward flight-search function, prices compare favorably with other tools (though Express Deals may be cheaper, see below).

We searched for the cheapest round-trip flight between Los Angeles (LAX) and Tokyo (NRT) and here’s what we found:

Priceline actually came out as the most expensive in this example. Keep in mind that this won’t always be the case, so it’s good to check prices on a few different websites before you book a flight.

Hot Tip:  When comparing prices on different OTAs, make sure the results you find are valid! In some cases, the cheapest fare you find may no longer be available.

How To Book a Rental Car on Priceline [Step-by-Step]

Priceline’s rental car tool has access to most major rental agencies, such as Alamo , Avis , Budget , Hertz ,  National , and SIXT .

To search for a rental car, enter the airport or city you’re traveling to and your pickup/drop-off dates and times. You can also specify whether you want a different drop-off location in the same city or a one-way rental.

You can sort and filter your results by a number of different parameters, including car type, location, cancellation policy, rating, and more.

Priceline rental cars sorting and filtering options

Once you select Choose,  you’ll be able to view the terms and conditions — these vary by the rental company, although many reservations are cancelable.

You will then be prompted to enter your contact and driver information, as well as optional information like adding child seats, loyalty program information, and flight information.

Collision Damage Protection

Before confirming your purchase you’ll be offered an option to purchase collision damage protection, an insurance product offered by Allianz through Priceline.

Priceline Rental Cars Insurance

Make sure to check if you have a credit card with car rental insurance , and then use it to make the reservation. This coverage usually requires you to decline coverage from the rental agency and pay for the entire rental with the card.

Hot Tip: Some of our favorite credit cards that offer primary car rental coverage are the Chase Sapphire Preferred ® Card  and  Chase Sapphire Reserve ® .

Price Comparisons — Rental Cars

Let’s take a look at how Priceline’s car rental rates compare to other OTAs and car rental agencies.

Both of these examples are for a week-long rental in Denver including all taxes and fees. The first example compares prices for the cheapest option available, and the second example compares prices for a specific type of vehicle.

As you can see prices are all over the map, with the most expensive coming from individual car rental agencies. Priceline was essentially tied for first place for the cheapest available and tied for second place when it came to the mid-size SUV. While you can absolutely save money by booking a rental car through Priceline, it’s always smart to compare prices on a few different websites before you make a reservation.

Often you’ll need to book both a flight and hotel and maybe even a rental car at the same time. You can do that all in one go by booking a Bundle + Save package from Priceline.

How To Book a Bundle + Save Vacation Package on Priceline [Step-by-Step]

Priceline offers the opportunity to bundle a combination of hotel, flight, and car rental together to assemble a discounted vacation package. Start your search on the homepage by clicking Bundle + Save in the main search area or on the top navigation bar.

Priceline Bundle and Save

You’ll have 4 bundled options to choose from:

  • Hotel + Flight
  • Hotel + Flight + Car
  • Flight + Car
  • Hotel + Car

Enter your departure and arrival cities and dates as well as the number of adults and rooms, then click Find Your Trip .

On the left-hand side, you’re able to sort by recommended hotels, hotel name, price, and star and guest rating. You can also filter by amenities, neighborhood, star and guest rating, and hotel name and brand.

Once you select your hotel by clicking Choose your room , the rest of the booking process is just like if you were booking a hotel or flight separately. Note that there are 2 prices displayed for your Priceline vacation package — a per person rate and the total price.

Priceline Bundle and Save filtering and sorting options

After you select your hotel and begin to select your flights, you’ll see how the various options affect the package price you were initially quoted.

  • +$0.00 will not affect your package price
  • A positive price would increase your package price

Adding a flight to a Priceline Bundle Save package

You’ll get a chance to review your selections fully before checking out, then add the passenger information and payment details before completing your booking.

Hot Tip: Take a peek at our guide to the best credit cards for vacation packages before making your purchase.

Price Comparisons — Bundle + Save

Let’s see if this Priceline vacation package will have you on your way to saving $382 as advertised.

Bundle and Save package on Priceline

This package included  2 round-trip flights from Chicago (ORD) to Cancún (CUN) plus a 7-night stay at Grand Oasis Cancun All Inclusive for a cost of $1,089 per person. The total price for this package is $2,178.

We quoted the individual components of the bundle separately for review:

If paid for separately, the total cost when booking through Priceline would be $2,446, so the actual savings for the Bundle + Save rate is $268 . The savings are a bit shy of the advertised $382, but still a substantial discount nonetheless.

The thing to note is that while you can save money with Bundle + Save vacation packages from Priceline, often the flights included aren’t great. We found many packages with flights that had long overnight connections, which, in addition to being annoying, reduced the vacation by 1 night.

Bottom Line: While you can save money with Priceline Bundle + Save vacation packages, it’s not always as big of savings as advertised. Also, be sure to pay attention to the package details, as many of the ones we found included absolutely terrible flights with overnight connections.

How To Book a Cruise on Priceline [Step-by-Step]

Start your cruise search by selecting Cruises from the top navigation bar or the main search menu, enter your destination, cruise line, departure month, cruise length, and whether you’re under 55 or not, and then click Find Your Cruise . You can fill out minimal information to see a wider variety of search results, like all destinations  or all cruise lines , etc.

Priceline cruises

You can then sort by featured cruises and departure date, or refine your search further at the top to adjust destination, length, departure date, cruise line, cruise ship, departure port, and additional discounts.

Click View Itinerary to see more details about the cruise. Choose your sailing date and click Select.

Input the number of guests in your party and the ZIP code of your current residence and click Continue. Select your room type by clicking Select. Finally, enter your full guest details and preferred dining time and click Continue.

Search for a cruise on Priceline

On the final booking screen, you’ll be able to review your fare, taxes, and fees, as well as special offers like onboard spending credits. You can opt to add travel protection and choose how to pay — deposit-only, payment in full, or monthly payments. When you’ve entered all the required details, click Complete Booking .

Price Comparisons — Cruises

Will Priceline save you money when booking a cruise? Let’s take a look.

In this example, we searched the 7-Night Western Caribbean cruise for 2 adults on Ruby Princess in a balcony stateroom.

Priceline had the cheapest price in this example but if you were planning to book shore excursions, the Cruise Direct price could end up saving you money.

Bottom Line: It’s to your advantage to search on a few cruise websites to find the best price and best bonus offers (like onboard credit, free gratuities, or free specialty meals or drinks).

Priceline’s loyalty program is called VIP. Once you join Priceline VIP, you’ll be eligible for various bonuses and perks.

Priceline VIP

There are 4 levels of status within the Priceline VIP program:

  • VIP Member: No minimum requirement
  • VIP Blue: Earned after 2 completed trips
  • VIP Gold: Earned after 5 completed trips or Priceline Rewards™ Visa ® Cardholders
  • VIP Platinum: Earned after 25 completed trips

VIP Gold and Platinum members can share their benefits with family by creating a VIP Family account . This allows up to 3 users to pool their activity and status to gain benefits 3x faster.

Priceline VIP Gold

The free Priceline app ( iOS , Android ) can be used to book, view, and manage your hotels, flights, and rental cars , even when you’re offline.

Priceline app

The app offers exclusive app-only hotel deals as well as Late Night Rates  daily at 9 p.m., showcasing the best hotel deals nearby to help with last-minute check-in.

For people who use Priceline consistently, Barclays offers the Priceline Rewards™ Visa ® Card  that earns rewards on everyday spending and bonus points on everything booked through Priceline.

  • 5x points per $1 on Priceline purchases
  • 2x points per $1 on gas and restaurant purchases
  • 1x point per $1 on all other purchases
  • Automatic VIP Gold status

Hot Tip: Because Priceline itself codes as travel,  you can also use a card that offers bonus points for travel purchases, such as the Chase Sapphire Reserve card or the Ink Business Preferred ® Credit Card , both of which earn 3x points per $1 spent on all travel, not just Priceline purchases.

As a standard online travel agency, Priceline performs solidly, and it is roughly on par with other OTAs in terms of selection and pricing. What makes the website stand out is its various opaque pricing tools that sometimes offer steep discounts on flights and hotels … if you’re flexible and willing to commit without knowing all the details.

Before purchasing one of Priceline’s opaque options, make sure that you’re certain about the trip, timing, and any other details you can confirm. Once you make a reservation, there’s no refund or cancellation!

The information regarding the Priceline Rewards™ Visa ® Card was independently collected by Upgraded Points and not provided nor reviewed by the issuer.

The Complete Guide to Booking Travel with Priceline

Frequently Asked Questions

What is priceline.

Priceline is an online travel agency (OTA) you can use to book flights, hotels, rental cars and more.

Why should I use Priceline?

Priceline is a great way to search and compare flights and hotel rates. It also offers a Best Price Guarantee, so there’s no risk of finding a lower price later and feeling like you missed out.

The bigger reason to use Priceline, though, is that it offers huge discounts on flights and hotels for making an opaque  booking.

What is an opaque booking?

An opaque booking is when you book a flight or hotel at a discount (sometimes a huge one), but you don’t know the exact details of what you’re reserving.

For example, if it’s a flight, you won’t know the exact time of your flights, or what airline you’re flying until you confirm the reservation.

If you’re booking a hotel, you’ll only know the hotel’s star rating, general location, and price until you pay for the reservation.

If you don't like what you've booked on Priceline, can you change it?

Your reservation may be refundable or cancelable depending on what you’ve booked on Priceline and how.

Opaque bookings through Pricebreakers and Express Deals are not refundable, changeable, transferable, or cancelable.

How do I cancel a Priceline hotel reservation?

If the reservation is cancelable or refundable, just call 800-PRICELINE.

If you booked the hotel as an Express Deal or Pricebreaker reservation, the official policy is that it can’t be canceled. However, some people report luck by calling the hotel and asking to cancel it, then contacting Priceline if the hotel is willing.

Trusted by Millions of Readers

Vacation planning can be quite a hassle. For some travelers, narrowing the options down to either a cruise or an all-inclusive resort can make the planning stage much simpler.

The Differences Between a Cruise And a Resort

Before we get into some specific options, let’s take a quick look at whether a cruise or all-inclusive resort might be better for you. If you want to visit lots of places, the cruise may fit you well. You might also prefer a cruise if you don’t like to fly – since many of the all-inclusive resorts are located in places you’ll likely need to reach with the help of an airplane.

If you want to stay in one relaxing and fun place, the all-inclusive resort might be the way to go. It might also be the better choice for a romantic getaway. According to Travel + Leisure , “One other thing to consider is the fact that there are more adults-only all-inclusive resorts than there are adults-only cruises — the only adults-only cruise lines are Virgin Voyages, Viking, and Saga.”

Costs to Cruise

The costs for cruises can vary widely. Based on data from the Cruise Booking and Cruiseline websites, most people will end up spending about $1,500 to $2,000 for a seven-day cruise.

If you’re looking for deals, you can find several on Priceline. For instance, you can get a seven-night western Caribbean cruise from Carnival starting at about $700. If you’re looking for something longer, Celebrity Cruises is offering a 12-night Caribbean and the Americas cruise starting at about $1,000. If your cruise budget is closer to $2,000, Priceline has a Disney Cruise Line offer for a seven-night western Caribbean cruise.

For more luxury, Viking Ocean Cruises is offering, through Priceline, a seven-night western Mediterranean cruise starting around $2,800.

Prices For a Resort

On the surface, the price for a weeklong stay at an all-inclusive resort looks higher than a cruise. Typically, you’ll find the prices around $2,000 to $3,500. Again, the prices can vary widely based on location, time of year and much more.

If you’re looking for an all-inclusive family option in Cancun, check out Iberostar Selection Cancún. It’s listed among the top affordable all-inclusive resorts by U.S. News & World Report . It starts about $250 a night, which would be around $1,750 for seven nights.

If you’re looking for an upscale adults-only resort, check out the Bahia Principe Luxury Runaway Bay. This one will cost you starting around $2,500 for seven nights.

One way to save big money is to go during off-peak times, such as in the fall. For instance, starting around $200 a night, you can stay at the Occidental at Xcaret Destination. Located just outside Playa del Carmen, Mexico, it offers family activities and spacious grounds.

The Bottom Line

You can find similar nightly rates for both cruises and all-inclusive resorts. When getting the best value for your money, it’s going to come down to what you want to do during your vacation and what you enjoy. If you want to see the sights, then a cruise may be the better value. If you’re looking to relax with drinks, an all-inclusive resort may be better for your money. Food and alcoholic beverages are typically included in the rate.

Whatever your choice, you may want to get moving. The best value for your money is likely to be found during off-peak periods, which for most vacation industries is in the winter.

Priceline’s Winter 2024 Product Release: Minimize Planning, Maximize Your Trip

February 13, 2024

Priceline’s AI-Powered Trip Intelligence Suite Saves Consumers Time and Money

With a major upgrade to priceline’s proprietary genai assistant penny and 30+ new features, priceline improves the travel experience with the industry’s most comprehensive set of ai tools.

At Priceline, we know a few things about giving our customers more for less. For over 25 years, we’ve had some pretty incredible people innovating around the clock – and while they haven’t figured out a way to squeeze more hours into the day, they have come up with a few ingenious hacks to save you time and money.

We’re excited to announce the next evolution of Priceline’s Trip Intelligence suite, leading with generative AI-powered travel assistant, Penny, who after six months of learning what travelers want most, is getting a well-deserved promotion! Penny is now available throughout Priceline to offer white-glove, bespoke travel assistance available round-the-clock.

Travelers today have all the excitement of the world at their fingertips, with the next adventure only a click away. But researching and booking the perfect experience can be time-consuming. In fact, travelers are actually spending more time planning their trips than ever before. A recent Priceline study found that US adults spend the equivalent of two full work days to plan and book a trip. Even more so with Gen Z, who report spending more than 20 hours. So, our dedicated team of AI experts, prompt engineers, product developers and data scientists got to work to come up with some major time-saving features.

The result? Imagine the world’s greatest professional concierge combined with that all-star mind-reading front desk agent who always saves the day: that’s Penny, powered up with new capabilities to help you plan fast, generate personalized itineraries, change bookings, and score the best deals in travel. The Trip Intelligence suite has also been upgraded with more than 30 fresh capabilities, maximizing booking flexibility and time-savings, including:

  • a quick-access, one-stop wallet
  • instant itinerary creation for multi-day trips
  • always-available, on-demand AI assistance with your trip

And we’re just getting warmed up!

“After six months of expert, on-the-job training, Penny is ready to deliver a more cohesive and personalized booking experience that saves people time and hassle,” said Brett Keller, CEO, Priceline . “ This is a continuation of Priceline’s tradition of revolutionizing travel with pioneering technology. We began fully integrating generative AI relatively early, and our tools and features will only get better as customers and partners engage with them more and more.”

Plan smarter, travel easier

This new, smarter evolution of Penny represents a breakthrough in time-saving technology, making research and planning a breeze for every type of traveler. Here are just a few of the capabilities designed to simplify the process while delivering unparalleled depth of customization and deals:

Discover with Penny: Feel overwhelmed with all the choice and don’t know where to even start to get the most out of your trip? Penny now helps you discover destinations directly from the home page with lightning-fast suggestions, helping you find the right accommodation and travel package based on your specific criteria. Looking for sunny beaches within a four hour flight from NYC in January? National parks within driving distance for family fun and adventure? Just ask; Penny quickly finds all those results for you – and more – without having to set up multiple filters to craft that perfect trip.

Troubleshoot with Penny: Plans can change in a heartbeat – we think travelers deserve the ability to modify the details of their trip as quickly and easily as possible. With Penny ready to help at a moment’s notice, you can view the details of your trip in a single glance or make changes to your schedule on the fly. And in scenarios where customers are looking for customer support, we estimate that chatting with Penny can save an average of nearly 10 minutes compared to talking with an agent on a helpline. Additionally, Penny can initiate hotel cancellations on your behalf or get the ball rolling on re-bookings and date adjustments. Or for the times when you just need to talk with a person, Penny easily connects you to the right party. Finding help is as simple as chatting with Penny – and best of all, help is available 24/7/365.

New game-changing GenAI capabilities in the Priceline app – The Priceline app just graduated from ‘amazingly handy’ to ‘absolutely indispensable’ with our new GenAI tech accelerating trip research and itinerary creation process.

  • GenAI Itineraries – Priceline’s new iOS app capability lets you instantaneously generate action-packed, personalized itineraries to get the most out of every moment of your trip. From breakfast to dinner to whitewater rafting and bumper cars in between, GenAI itineraries are a life-saver for travelers – and especially so for family trip planners trying to balance everyone’s different ideas of fun! How about a week in Tokyo filled with shopping and sightseeing, plus a day trip to see the cherry blossoms near Fuji Five Lakes? Or suggestions for two days of museums and good eats in New York? Our ultra-fast AI generates a comprehensive travel itinerary customized to your trip, addressing all of the must-dos and must-sees.
  •   Big upgrades to the app experience – Aside from major design improvements across all platforms, including fresh, top-to-bottom overhauls for our iOS and Android apps, customers can look forward to a number of new features and integrations.
  • Beginning in March, Apple users will have access to Live Activity updates for flights in real-time, right on your phone’s lock screen. We’ve also made it simple to start your search for hotel deals and car rentals from the convenience of your iPhone’s Spotlight search function – just start typing away and we’ll shortcut you to the right place in the Priceline app. Within iOS, travelers also have access to our new Trip Timeline – a practical at-a-glance view with all the key dates for your upcoming trips.
  • For Android users, easily find support when you need it fast, with the ability to text with a Priceline Customer Service representative without needing to leave the app.

“Booking with confidence and saving time are absolutely key for our customers,” said Kevin Heery, Chief Product Officer . “ Our expanded Trip Intelligence suite will en able Priceline to further anticipate travelers’ needs, helping them book their trip with ease and peace of mind seamlessly and faster than ever before.”

Money-saving meets time-saving

At Priceline, innovation is geared toward three goals: finding the best deals in travel, enabling customers to book with confidence, and crafting technologies to streamline and enrich trip planning. Our upgraded Trip Intelligence suite features a slate of new time-saving tools to deliver on all these commitments as (super)humanly possible.

  • Priceline Wallet – Never miss out on a deal or misplace a credit again. The new Priceline Wallet lets you save coupons, keep on top of expiration dates, and track airline credits to use toward your next trip. This one-stop portfolio keeps all your important codes secure in one fast-access location so you save even more time and money at check out.
  • Price Watch – Keeping tabs on price changes for your preferred flights can get tiresome, fast. So leave it to us (after all, we are the price experts!). Our app will keep an eye to the sky for the best travel deals on your behalf so you can rest easy knowing you’ll be promptly notified following a price change on your desired flight itinerary.

And here are a few more of the 30+ new features in the upgraded Trip Intelligence suite, available now:

  • Cabin Comparisons in Search – Eliminate seat FOMO! Search results for all domestic flights are now enhanced with cabin and seat comparisons, enabling you to succinctly evaluate cabin attributes, pricing, upgrade options, and other enhancements to make sure you book the exact experience you want.
  • Skip the Counter and Online Rental Car Check-In – Save time by skipping the counter and getting right in your vehicle. Or check-in online ahead of time with select partners to significantly cut your counter wait time.
  • Car Upgrades at Checkout – Everybody loves an upgrade. If a larger or more premium vehicle is available for a similar price, we’ll let you know before checking out.
  • Baggage View – Baggage allocations and pricing remain in persistent view throughout the booking process, which means no more juggling tabs or hitting the back button.
  • Multi-Passenger Cancellation and Rebooking – Get your family’s itinerary back on track with the ability to bypass contacting an airline agent and rebooking tickets with your airline credit, directly with Priceline for select airlines.
  • Offers in the PayPal App: Priceline has joined forces with PayPal for the upcoming launch of their new offers platform. Beginning later this year, Priceline expects to provide personalized cash-back offers to consumers in the PayPal app for use when purchasing their travel on Priceline and checking out with PayPal – helping them get to their happy place for a happy price.

To celebrate the launch of the new Trip Intelligence features, Priceline is offering a 10% discount on Express Deals Ⓡ , exclusively through Penny.  Simply ask Penny, “can you get me a deal?” to reveal the code and book by February 27th to take advantage of this special offer.

All of these exciting new features and more will be available to all Priceline customers starting February 13, 2024. To experience the power of Penny and our GenAI-enhanced Trip Intelligence suite visit priceline.com/2024winterrelease .

12 Themed Cruises You Should Have On Your Radar In 2024

T aking a cruise is an experience unlike anything else. Days at sea on a ship full of entertainment and relaxation make for a fantastic vacation. But what if you want even more from your cruise? A theme might be what's missing. In addition to all the usual cruise experiences, themed cruises allow fans of a particular artist, lifestyle, hobby (or even animal), to celebrate their passion on the high seas with activities, events, surprises, and sometimes special guests.

There are dozens of themed cruises on offer each year, usually hosted by major cruise lines like Norwegian , Carnival, and Royal Caribbean. But don't let their numbers fool you. According to  Business Insider , themed cruises are rapidly climbing in popularity, and some trips are selling out in record time. That means it's important to find your dream-themed cruise and reserve your tickets as early as possible.

Fortunately, even if they're sold out, most themed cruises will let you join a waiting list, so there's still hope! Here are 12 themed cruises that will set sail in 2024 and are well worth boarding, either now or the next time they hit the high seas.

The Emo's Not Dead Cruise

If you truly know it's not a phase, the Emo's Not Dead Cruise is perfect for you. Gather with fellow emo fans for four days (and nights) of concerts, activities, and even a private party at Great Stirrup Kay in the Bahamas. Over a dozen bands will perform, including Yellowcard, Senses Fail, and Armor for Sleep. Alongside themed activities like a masquerade ball, cruisegoers can also enjoy surprisingly cheerful activities like a bellyflop competition in the ship's pool.

The first Emo's Not Dead cruise was in 2022. Cruisegoer and emo fan TheReelChris shared highlights on  YouTube , calling it "EPIC." Fans in the comments section agree, with Schecterplayer92 adding, "This was one of the best experiences of my life." With a killer lineup and entertaining activities scheduled, it seems like Emo's Not Dead 2024 will also be a rad experience. The cruise will be hosted on the Norwegian Pearl, leaving from Miami on February 26 and returning on March 1, 2024. But what would an emo-related cruise be without a little sadness? Unfortunately, the cruise is already sold out. If you're interested, you can  sign up for the waiting list  and hope.

Meow Meow Cruise

Some of us know that no matter how great a vacation might be, cats would make it even better. Meow Meow Cruise has solved that problem. While guests unfortunately aren't allowed to bring their own furry friends aboard Virgin Voyages' Scarlet Lady, the four-day cruise will give them their feline fix in plenty of other ways.

Activities include cat-themed trivia and a scavenger hunt. But the best part may be communing with fellow cat people (many of whom stroll around the ship wearing cat ears). You'll also be able to mingle with real cats -- one of 2024's ports of call is Key West, where you'll find the Ernest Hemingway Home & Museum and its community of about 60 friendly polydactyl kitties, many of them descended from one of the author's own pets.

It's hard to find reviews for Meow Meow Cruise, but the fact that this themed cruise has been going on annually since 2015 speaks for itself. The 2024 Meow Meow Cruise sets sail from Miami on February 21, with a return date of February 25. Tickets are still available, but to be sure you don't miss out, consider booking right now.

In My Cruise Era

Sure, cruises are great — and cruising is a multi-billion dollar industry — but is anything more popular than Taylor Swift? For those who can't imagine anyone saying "no" to that question, there's no better cruise than In My Cruise Era. While not officially affiliated with Taylor Swift, this themed cruise is a passionate fan homage. Swifties will be able to dress up in their favorite Taylor-inspired looks, exchange friendship bracelets, perform their idol's songs during karaoke sessions, and more. We're also guessing there will be of lots impromptu song breaks throughout the ship from Taylor's extensive catalog.

Royal Caribbean's Allure of the Seas will host this cruise, which sets sail from Miami on October 21, 2024 -- which, as People Magazine points out, is one day after the Eras Tour will be in the city. Fans lucky enough to attend the concert can continue their Taylor euphoria for four more days on the high seas. Since this is a new themed cruise, there aren't any reviews, but based on the positive fan vibes from Eras Tour concerts and movie viewings, among other events, we're guessing it's going to be a great time for Swifties. Swifties must agree, since the cruise is already sold out. Cancellations do happen, though, so hopeful fans can join the waiting list.  Contact the cruise's organizers to sign up.

Disney's Halloween On The High Seas

Go on just about any cruise-related blog or website and you'll see that Disney Cruise Line's Halloween-themed cruise, officially called Halloween on the High Seas, is a popular favorite. As you probably expect from Disney, this themed cruise is perfect for a family vacation , so it's not too scary. The cruise is hosted on multiple Disney Cruise Line ships, and each one is decorated with the care and attention to detail you'll find in most Disney-related enterprises. The Pumpkin Tree is the highlight of the decor, with pumpkins that eventually appear on its branches and transform into lit and unlit jack o'lanterns.

Halloween on the High Seas also features Halloween activities (including a trick-or-treating night) and exclusive Halloween-themed desserts. Disney cruises in general are known for their opportunities to meet the studio's beloved characters, and during the Halloween on the High Seas cruises, some of those characters are in costume. Notably, Disney Cruise Line's official site tells us, Minnie Mouse, Daisy Duck, and Clarabelle Cow will be dressed as the Sanderson Sisters -- who wouldn't want to see that?

This magical mixture of whimsy, fun, and exclusive opportunities is the perfect way to cast a spell on Disney fans of all ages. Luckily, Halloween on the High Seas is held during a number of different times in September and October, so you and your family should be able to find a place on board!

The Hallmark Channel Christmas Cruise

Sure, Hallmark Channel Christmas movies might be a little on the cheesy side, but let's be honest: lots of us dream of being in one in real life. You can get a little of the real-life Hallmark movie experience by visiting some of the movies' filming locations , but now there's a way to have an even more immersive experience: The Hallmark Channel Christmas Cruise.

Passengers will get to meet Hallmark Channel movie stars, attend panels and photo ops, and get to see a new Hallmark Christmas movie before its world premiere. Maybe best of all, passengers can take part in lots of Hallmark Christmas movie-inspired activities, including tree lighting and cookie decorating -- all while wearing their favorite ugly Christmas sweaters.

2024 is the first year of the Hallmark Channel Christmas Cruise. It was originally intended to be just one cruise, but a second one was added after the first one sold out. As of now, two Hallmark Channel Christmas Cruises are scheduled for 2024. Both go from Miami to the Bahamas and back and last four days in November. ... And both are sold out. But Christmas is a time of miracles, so if a Hallmark Channel Christmas experience on the high seas sounds like your dream come true, sign up for the waiting list as soon as you can!

Hurtigruten Northern Lights Cruises

Themed cruises are often about fandoms and hobbies. But Norway-based cruise line Hurtigruten offers a themed cruise that's about something even bigger: the Northern Lights . There are several Northern Lights-themed cruises out there, including some luxurious options by Cunard. Unfortunately, the Northern Lights aren't always visible, but Hurtigruten stands out by offering a Northern Lights Promise for cruises scheduled between September 26 and March 31 and lasting longer than 11 days. If the Northern Lights aren't visible during your cruise, they'll give you another one. So if you're serious about seeing the Aurora Borealis, this is the company to choose.

The Northern Lights are the focus of Hurtigruten's eponymous cruises, but there are also other things to do on board, including scientific lectures and photography lessons. There are excursions, too -- notably a dog sledding option. Passengers who've taken one of Hurtigruten's cruises unanimously praise the stunning fjords and landscapes you can admire from the ship and during excursions, not to mention their experiences of seeing the Northern Lights. Some warn that the ships aren't as luxurious or modern as many other cruise ships, primarily because Hurtigruten's ships are also functional vessels intended to transport and deliver mail to various points on the Norwegian coast. Still,  Cruise Critic reviewers like cmolaison praise the friendly crew, the surprising level of comfort, and the "stunning vistas" you'll see, saying he and his family "highly recommend" taking a Hurtigruten cruise.

Cruise & Crop Crafting Cruises

If the perfect vacation for you is a combination of R&R and crafting, you're in luck! There are several crafting-themed cruises. One of the most popular is organized by Cruise & Crop, with ships around the world hosting different crafting- and arts-themed trips. This makes them the most accessible themed cruises on our list, with different price ranges, departure points, itineraries, and ports of call. One thing all crafting cruises have in common, though, is groups of like-minded people exploring their creativity amid the other joys of cruising.

For instance, one of Crop & Cruise's 2024 offerings is a Mexican Riviera cruise aboard Royal Caribbean's Navigator of the Seas, featuring scrapbooking and other papercraft classes taught by artist Barb Warne. The ship departs from Los Angeles on April 19, returning April 26. Many Cruise & Crop cruises sell out quickly, so if this idea has sparked both your wanderlust and your creativity, be sure to check their list of 2024 cruises and reserve as soon as you can.

Star Trek: The Cruise

For seven days and nights every year, thousands of Star Trek fans gather to be a part of a fandom extravaganza at sea. Star Trek: The Cruise is an experience that features celebrities aboard (2024's guests include LeVar Burton and Wil Wheaton, among many others), costume and cosplay events, and lots of fun activities.

But what makes Star Trek: The Cruise truly unique is that audience participation is very much encouraged. Passengers and celebrity guests are all considered the crew of one great, big, intergalactic vessel. Passengers get to interact with the guest stars in events like karaoke battles, and stars share parts of their earthly lives with Q&A sessions and even glimpses at other projects they may be involved in.

The first Star Trek: The Cruise was held in 2017 and since then it's been a fan favorite. Star Wars and cruising aficionado Aaron Bossig writes on  Trek Movie.com that many fans go on the cruise every year, and proudly wear t-shirts from the previous ones. He calls Star Trek: The Cruise "an extra special convention experience." 2024's edition will be held on the Mariner of the Seas, departing from Cape Canaveral, Florida, on February 22 and returning on February 29.

Literature Festival At Sea

Once a year, aboard the legendary Queen Mary 2, passengers can mingle with writers, poets, journalists, and critics in a full-blown literary festival in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. Literature Festival at Sea invites writers in all genres to host round table discussions, participate in Q&As revolving around their work and areas of expertise, host workshops, and converse with passengers.

Whether passengers want to participate as much as possible or just attend a few events, the Festival seems to be an excellent addition to a typical Queen Mary 2 voyage. On TripAdvisor , passenger Artemis C writes of her experience at a previous Literature Festival at Sea that "the whole week was a joy".

2024's lineup features crime novelists, journalists, historians, and more, for what's sure to be a fascinating week of discussion and discovery. If you'd like to combine an elegant transatlantic cruise and a literary experience, 2024's Literature Festival at Sea will take place from November 13-20, departing from Southampton, U.K., and arriving in New York. Cunard has also launched an Australian Literature Festival at Sea, scheduled from December 11-16, 2024, on the Queen Elizabeth, which departs from and returns to Sydney.

Chefs Making Waves

Many cruise lines are proud of their food offerings. Some cruises feature dishes created by world-famous chefs, and others even host food and wine festivals. But no culinary cruise event seems quite as, well, fun, as Chefs Making Waves. This culinary-themed cruise will set sail for the first time in 2024. Onboard will be a number of beloved celebrity chefs, including Anne Burrell and the Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro. Cooking demos and, of course, food tastings of all kinds (including sit-down meals, desserts, and street food) are on the menu. Best of all, Chefs Making Waves is an all-inclusive cruise, so everyone can eat and drink without having to pay extra!

There will be all of the usual cruise-related fun, from swimming to excursions, to help you work up an appetite. There will also be unique games, with some of the chefs participating in events like bingo and a celebrity chef sing-off. If this sounds like an awesome cruise, you're not the only one who feels that way. Chefs Making Waves will take place from March 25-29, departing from Miami with excursions in Great Stirrup Cay and Nassau, Bahamas ... and it's already sold out. But you can still  sign up for the waiting list . With a little luck, you'll be able to enjoy this delicious, themed cruise experience.

Soul Train Cruise

Imagine a festival with a lineup featuring some of the best soul and R&B acts of all time. Now imagine it's on a relaxing cruise ship. This dream is actually reality -- it's called the Soul Train Cruise. The popular themed cruise will be celebrating its 11th year in 2024 and the lineup is on fire. Dozens of groups and artists will perform, including The Temptations, Boyz II Men, and En Vogue. Passengers can also learn how to dance like people did back in the old school days of Soul Train's TV show, with lessons from some of the show's actual dancers. There will also be wine tastings, Q&A's, comedy shows, and a lot more.

With all of this on offer, it's no surprise that the Soul Train Cruise is sold out. But sign up on the waiting list and keep your calendar free from January 27-February 3, and you may get lucky. If you do, the cruise leaves from Fort Lauderdale, with ports of call in Tortola (British Virgin Islands) and St. Maarten.

The Gothic Cruise

The Gothic Cruise is an annual event held on an ordinary cruise ship. Goths mingle with "norms" but have their own private events on board, mostly DJ sets and concerts. There's also a masquerade ball, with Goths decked out in their finest Victorian-style garb ... as long as it meets ship safety requirements, that is. The cruise's website specifies that simulated weapons aren't allowed and notes that hoop skirts are fine for the ball but not in the ship's dining areas, "due to the close proximity of the tables". And yet, the Goth community thrives on these cruises -- and even gains norm fans along the way.

In a Porthole Magazine article about the Gothic Cruise, longtime attendee Spike Pittman says that many mainstream passengers are wary of the Goths at first, "But by the end they're begging to get into our private events." Some even book their future cruises to coincide with the Gothic Cruise, even if they don't plan on attending every event.

The Gothic Cruise has been held since 1989. Cruising doesn't seem very Goth, but in the end, the article points out, it comes down to what all themed cruises offer: a sense of community (in this case, one that often stays up all night and sleeps during the day). If this moves your little black heart, the 2024 Gothic Cruise will be held on the Norwegian Escape (but book through the Gothic Cruise's website for private event access), departing from Orlando on March 2, and returning March 9.

2024 travel tips: Cruises from Florida for spring, summer already selling out. What we know

Cruising is back − and in a big way. So say industry reports from Reuters , Cruise Industry News and Auto club group AAA.

After three years of bouncing back to pre-pandemic levels of sales, cruise companies are gearing up for what is expected to be a record-breaking year.

Last year, the demand for new cruise experiences was met with a horde of themed cruises: The Margaritaville cruise , a Taylor Swift cruise scheduled to set sail in October 2024 , a global 9-month-long cruise and even a Hallmark Christmas cruise scheduled for later this year all hit the market.

According to a recent press release from AAA, cruise lines finally reached pre-pandemic levels of sales in 2023 and are already selling out of suites and cabins with balconies for popular spring and summer cruises in 2024.

Here’s when AAA says the best time to book a cruise is, what kinds of cruises are predicted to be most popular in 2024 and a quick roundup of some popular cruises leaving from Florida ports.

What is the cheapest month to book a cruise?

“Travel demand is off to a strong start, which means availability will continue to shrink in the next couple of months,” Debbie Haas, AAA vice president of travel, said in the press release. “So, if you want a specific itinerary, ship, or cabin type, act fast or you’ll have to start planning for next year instead.”

According to AAA’s press release, the first three months of the year are the best to book a cruise. January through March is called “wave season” among travel agents, since this is when many book their spring and summer vacations.

From now through March, cruise lines offer many discounts that can vary from 30% to 60% discounted prices, cabin upgrades, buy-one-get-one deals, on-board credits, pre-paid tipping and drink packages.

Travel advisories for the Caribbean 10 Florida islands could be alternative

What cruise is the most popular?

AAA’s 2024 trend report shows a spike in interest for Caribbean, Alaskan, European and weekend cruises.

When is the best time to cruise?

Here are AAA’s trend forecasts for the best times to cruise in 2024, according to the kind of cruise you choose:

  • The Caribbean is popular year-round, but spring and summer are the most popular sailing times.
  • Alaska cruise season runs from May to September. Because this is an abbreviated period, there’s more competition for availability.
  • Weekend cruises have gained popularity in recent years. Weekend warriors have realized the value an all-inclusive cruise compared to a weekend getaway in a big city resort. Cruise lines have recognized this growing trend and are making weekend cruises more of a priority in 2024, by mobilizing some of their newest ships to accessible ports for weekend excursions.
  • European river cruising is now operational year-round. Because European travel is most popular during the summer, travelers can avoid the crowds and find lower priced cruises and airfares in the early and later parts of the year.

Can I take a cruise from Florida to Alaska?

Most Alaskan cruises depart from Seattle, Washington, but you can cruise to Alaska from Florida! Although you technically can cruise to Alaska from Florida, it takes around 14 days, has to be booked far in advance and can get really pricey.

Cruising to the Caribbean is a much shorter and easier voyage from Florida. Four-night cruises to Haiti and Mexico start at around $215 to $250 per person on Expedia as of February 13, 2024. There are currently travel advisories for Caribbean islands like the Bahamas and Jamaica , so make sure to be aware of that when booking a Caribbean cruise.

As far as weekend cruises go, there are plenty leaving from Florida ports in 2024. There are more options if you decide to make it a long weekend, with cruise lines like Margaritaville offering a variety of three and four-night cruises throughout the year.

Sell my car, car research, sign in, 2024 toyota land cruiser: what we know so far, toyota's legendary nameplate returns to north america with a lower price and more off-road tech..

priceline cruises 2024

QuickTakes:

  • New Land Cruiser styling honors its past
  • 2024 Land Cruiser gains its first hybrid powertrain
  • A look at the Land Cruiser's off-road features, tech, and pricing

The Toyota Land Cruiser is returning to the United States for 2024, in the form of a boxy, retro-inspired five-seat SUV.

This marks the first time in three years that a new Land Cruiser will be available on our shores. The company says this generation marks a return to the vehicle's roots, as it's focused less on luxury and more on rugged off-road capability. To highlight the shift, all trims come standard with tow hooks.

Instead of the larger 300 Series model currently sold overseas, the new Land Cruiser is Toyota's version of the latest Lexus GX. Unlike the Lexus, however, the Toyota comes exclusively with a hybrid powertrain.

Land Cruiser Styling Honors Its Past

The GX underpinnings of the 2024 Land Cruiser inspire boxy proportions with an upright, rectangular windshield and a tall, airy greenhouse. But given the prominent Toyota block-letter badging, which recalls Land Cruisers of the 1980s, few folks should have trouble distinguishing between the two SUVs.

At launch, three trims will be available: Land Cruiser 1958, Land Cruiser, and Land Cruiser First Edition. The 1958 trim is named to commemorate the year Toyota first offered the Land Cruiser in the U.S. It gets some vintage flair courtesy of its round headlights.

The Land Cruiser First Edition will be limited to 5,000 examples for the North American market and will also feature round headlights, while the midtier Land Cruiser spec will get rectangular units reminiscent of 1980s and 1990s models. For 2024, the Land Cruiser will be offered in seven colors; a pair of two-tone paint options will also be available. Don't look for a third row: Every Land Cruiser seats five.

2024 Land Cruiser Gains Its First Hybrid Powertrain

The new Land Cruiser will be offered with a single powertrain: a 2.4-liter turbocharged four-cylinder paired with an electric motor and a nickel-metal hydride battery . At the time of this writing, no fuel-economy estimates have been disclosed.

This setup is a first for the U.S.-market Land Cruiser, both in terms of cylinder count and hybrid tech, and Toyota says it's good for 326 horsepower and 465 lb-ft of torque. All models will come with an eight-speed automatic transmission and a standard trailer hitch. They are rated to tow up to 6,000 pounds.

By comparison, the current 4Runner — a design that's been on the market for more than a decade — uses a 4.0-liter V6 to generate just 270 horsepower, and it's rated to tow just 5,000 pounds.

Land Cruiser Off-Road Features, Tech, and Pricing

Every Land Cruiser comes standard with full-time four-wheel drive with locking center and rear differentials, a two-speed transfer case, and Crawl Control, which works as an off-road cruise control.

The midtier Land Cruiser trim adds the ability to disconnect the front stabilizer for improved wheel articulation over rough terrain, along with additional traction-control modes for Mud, Dirt, and Sand. A camera system displays what's happening underneath and beside the vehicle. The limited-run First Edition includes all those features and adds a roof rack, rock rails, a skid plate, and mud flaps. All trim levels come standard with 18-inch alloy wheels, and the Land Cruiser trim offers optional 20-inch units.

Steering wheel and interior of the 2024 Toyota Land Cruiser

By the numbers, the Land Cruiser features 8.7 inches of ground clearance as well as up to a 31-degree approach angle, a 25-degree breakover angle, and a 22-degree departure angle. At about 194 inches long, it's around an inch shorter and 4 inches narrower than the 200 Series last sold in the U.S.

All versions will come with Toyota's Safety Sense 3.0 suite of driver-assistance tech, plus a choice between 8.0- and 12.3-inch touchscreens with over-the-air updates and wireless smartphone mirroring. Top-end models trade the standard version's cloth upholstery for synthetic or real leather, while a sunroof is also on the options list.

Toyota says the 2024 Land Cruiser will cost less than $60,000 to start. Initial deliveries are slated to arrive in early 2024.
