Leading the Effort to End Homelessness in the Capital Region of Connecticut
At Journey Home, we believe that everyone deserves to feel the comfort and safety of home.
Homelessness is a complicated and expensive social problem.
Without coordinating all available programs and services:.
- Responses are siloed
- Efforts get duplicated
- Dollars are wasted
Journey Home coordinates the Capital Region’s system for ending homelessness. We guide the efforts between service providers, government agencies, businesses, and local communities to achieve enduring, systemic change.

How Journey Home is Making a Difference
Our mission is to ensure a home for all.
We’ve spent more than a decade committed to ending homelessness in Connecticut’s Capital region by applying sustainable solutions to the barriers that create cycles of homelessness.
Every day, we work to:
- Prevent as many people as possible from losing their housing
- Increase the speed at which we find housing for anyone who is already experiencing homelessness
- Help folks move into their homes and provide the furnishings and services they need to never become homeless again
Richard Buckminster Fuller says, “You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
For Connecticut, that new model is the Coordinated Access Network, a way for people who are experiencing homelessness to access housing and support services in a standardized and organized way. It involves having clear protocols, assessment tools, and agreed-upon priorities within the community that serves homeless individuals.
“You never change things by fighting the existing reality. To change something, build a new model that makes the existing model obsolete.”
–Richard Buckminster Fuller
The Results (So Far)
Decrease in the number of people experiencing chronic homelessness since 2015, journey home mission: our mission is to ensure a home for all..
We believe the most powerful way to do this is collectively - by working together with service providers, elected officials, businesses and local communities to end homelessness in the Capital region of Connecticut. We will build partnerships, advance innovative solutions and achieve enduring, systemic change.

I was impressed with every aspect of The Journey Home and the care Dad received. We were distraught and overwhelmed; the staff and caregivers knew everything “right” to do for him and for us. It seemed they cared for Dad as much as we did. Thank you.
Our purpose is to provide a “home” for individuals with 30 days or less life expectancy who have limited financial and caregiver resources. My wife & I have just completed the Journey of a Lifetime 16 day 15 night Trip as organised by Express to Russia. We also had a tour of St Petersburg & Moscow as well. The planning & execution of both trips was well above our expectations. The guides we had in all of our destinations were exceptional & the meet & greet & return to the stations went as smooth as clockwork. We had one minor hitch but that was through no fault of Express to Russia..a quick email from our Ipad had the problem resolved immediately We did have some misgivings at the start about doing the booking online ourselves but Elena was wonderful & answered all of our questions promptly & to our satisfaction. We felt comfortable with the whole process. The train trip is wonderful with Mongolia being a "special " place for us! We highly recommend Elena & her company. I am happy to answer any questions any body may wish to ask.
Thank you so very much for organizing our trip. Everything went wonderfully, and we really enjoyed our time in Russia. Moscow was beautiful, Lake Baikal was very cold, yet very fun to swim in, and the DPR Koreans that I met and made friends with in Vladivostok was beyond priceless. The guides you got for us did an exceptional job, and the drivers helped us out a lot as well. The hotels you got for us were great, and the room you got for us in the Vladivostok really made the long stay comfortable. The trains were also very enjoyable as was the Russian hospitality, although we really weren´t expecting people to be so generous or helpful. Overall, the trip was wonderful, and you arranged it magnificently. You really went out of your way to accommodate my schedule and help me with my schoolwork, so I really appreciate it; I couldn´t have done it without you. So once again, thank you for all of your efforts, and hopefully in the future you will be able to help us out again. Take care, and thank you for everything.

Trans-Siberian Train
The main route of the Trans-Siberian Railway begins in Moscow and heads east to Vladivostok passing through Yekaterinburg, Chelyabinsk, Omsk, Novosibirsk, Irkutsk, Ulan Ude, Chita, Blagoveshchensk and Khabarovsk. The length of the route is 9259 km or 5753 miles. The train travels through 7 time zones and takes 8 days to complete without making overnight stops. The Trans-Siberian splits off into a few other fascinating directions as well:
Trans-Mongolian Train
The Trans-Mongolian Line was built from 1940 to 1956 between Ulan-Ude at Lake Baikal’s eastern shore and the Chinese capital Beijing. From Ulan-Ude the tracks go south towards Mongolia, crossing the great Gobi Desert and finally ending up in Beijing. This route is a mere 7867 kilometers long (Moscow - Beijing).
Trans-Manchurian Train
The Trans-Manchurian Line runs on the same route as the Trans-Siberian as far as Tarskaya, which is a few hundred miles east of Baikal. From Tarskaya, the line runs southeast into China near Zabaikalsk and makes its way down to Beijing. This route is a 9001 kilometres long (Moscow - Beijing).

Frequently Asked Questions From Our Travelers
Where does the trans-siberian railway start and where does it end.
The Trans-Siberian Railway starts in Moscow and extends all the way to Vladivostok on the Pacific Ocean. This route connects the European part of Russia, the Ural region, Siberia and the Russian Far East.
Are Beijing and Ulan Bator stops along the Trans-Siberian railway?
Beijing and Ulan Bator are parts of Trans-Mongolian railway - an offshoot of the main Trans-Siberian Railway. There are many options to arrange your travel: to visit Ulan Bator and or follow the Trans-Siberian railway to or from Vladivostok.
Can I use the hop-on hop-off principle when traveling by Trans-Siberian train?
Unfortunately, that is not possible. Train tickets in Russia are not open, so you will need a separate ticket with a particular date for each leg of your trip - for example, you may go all the way from Moscow to Vladivostok, but you will only be able to leave the train for short stops at the railway stations. In case if you would like to explore different cities on the way, you will need separate tickets, for example Moscow – Yekaterinburg, Yekaterinburg – Irkutsk, Irkutsk - Vladivostok. We offer carefully planned private tours that will allow you to visit several cities on your way.
Are there showers aboard Trans-Siberian trains?
Most of the Trans-Siberian trains do not have showers, and there are two WCs per each carriage. Please consider it while planning your trip. We recommend to choose shorter distances (that is, to plan more overnight stops in the cities along the way) to avoid the inconvenience of not showering. Another option is to choose the trip on board a more luxurious train which has all the on-board amenities that one might need.
Are meals included on the board of Trans-Siberian express train?
When traveling with RZD regular trains meals are not included. You can easily buy your meals in the restaurant car. Another option is to buy local specialties from “babushkas” (grandmothers, or simply Russian old ladies) on the short train stops along the way. This is a very authentic way of getting your meals.
What is the most comfortable way to travel on the Trans-Siberian railroad?
There are luxurious trains on the Trans-Siberian railway that are quite different from regular RZD trains and can be described as 5* hotels on wheels. We offer this type of accommodation on the Imperial Russia train where you can enjoy a full board menu, a shower and a comfortable compartment.

Journey came out and gave me a quote on roof damage caused by a racoon. He created a small hole to escape my attic. Journey was quick getting to me. The quote was $2,250.00. The repair guy was there the next day and was done in 2 hours. The quality of work was good and fast. Probably $150.00 in material. I think it was a bit to expensive when I saw what it took to fix it.
This is the damage by the racoon.
horrible company! run fast! this company will rip you off, and over price their work. preditors! they take advantage of elderly!
Asked them to bid on a new roof installation but would not help me because owner of the building lives in S Carolina. I am handling the bidding process and hiring the roofer.
My roof had a leak in two spots so I reached out to Journey Builders among 3 other contractors. I decided to go with Fred from Journey Builders and couldn't be happier with my decision. They were very professional and guided me through the process. The roof looks great and I got a very good deal. Highly recommend.
HORRIBLE!!! Do not use!! They might be cheaper than competitors but spend the extra couple of hundred to get the job done right!!!

Administrative Processing after interview and verbal approval at Moscow embassy

A few days ago my fiancee was interviewed at the Moscow embassy for her K1 visa . Everything during the interview appeared to go smoothly - all of the paperwork was in order, the interviewer seemed satisfied, and at the end kept my fiancee's passport and told her she was approved and the visa would arrive in a week.
Two days later, we received a phone call from the embassy saying not to expect the visa any time soon, and that additional processing of two weeks to two months would be required.
The Department of State in Washington confirmed the file is in "administrative processing" but could not explain why, nor what type of processing would be completed, nor where the work would be done.
Has anyone had experience with the Moscow embassy basically "un-approving" a verbal approval given at the interview? Any suggestions where to go from here?
Based on the verbal approval from the consular officer, we already purchased plane tickets, so this screwup is going to cost me.
Thanks in advance.

AP can last for anywhere from days to months or longer. I think once her name or prints were cabled back to DOS in the states she had some type of hit. It does not mean she is bad person but they have to get all her background checks completed. You can not expediate the case and no one will be able to help you until it completes.
Many men are told 2 weeks to 6 weeks. I am now over 90 days and still on AP so I will say stay strong, pray for patience and understanding and hopefully your AP will finish soon. Sorry about the loss on the plane ticket, too.
Everything I respond to is from personal knowledge, research or experience and I am in no means a lawyer or do I claim to be one. Everyone should read, research and be responsible for your own journey.
Thanks for the feedback... was he told at the time of the interview it would go to Administrative Processing, or did they tell him he was approved, and then notify you a few days later that it was going to Administrative Processing?
At the interview the CO told him the case was fine and needed more processing. They gave him a 221 g form and said that it could be few weeks and not to contact the embassy until after 45 business days barring holidays and weekends. We have contacted DOS and the embassy and they are telling us we are still in processing. Embassy says fine just to wait out the processing. They are very tight lipped on the AR/AP and will not tell what checks are being done.
Once they submit the fingerprints and names if they have any hits they cannot release the visa. They have to hold it until all checks are finalized and agreed upon.
I called State and they looked at the file... told me that all the background checks were in and cleared, and nothing new has been ordered from DC. They couldn't say exactly what is going on in Moscow. My Senator got an email response from the consulate today, I am supposed to wait an "indefinite" period of time. I'm not sure what else to do here. Anybody have suggestions?

Obviously, you can only wait. It may take some time, but there is nothing else that you can do.
By the way, the State Department recommends that nobody purchase a plane ticket to the USA until the visa is in hand.

Yeah, I knew that up front, and deliberately waited until after the interview to aviod getting nailed for canceling a flight. The consular officer said the case was approved and the visa would be delivered in one week. I suppose taking their word at face value was a mistake. Very disappointing, given the total lack of explanation from the consulate.
Sorry but all you can do it wait the process out.

Do you have any updates on visa status for you fiancée?
My fiancée has a similar situation in Moscow. It’s almost four month she is waiting for Administrative processing complete.

Well... I'm sure what Moscow wanted to say was "You have a bona fide realationship and your fiancé passed the interview however additional security checks need to be put in place" ... Interview approval doesn't neccesarily mean you'll have the visa in hand... but a lot of these checks can go very quickly so you will have to wait it out

Another place you could go to find out what the experiences recently have been is the Yahoo RussianWomenList.
I remember seeing a couple that just had this in Moscow in March I believe it was.
Same situation and I think it took them about a month.
One of the respondees to his query had the same thing happen.
Not much consolation -- just a suggestion of another place to check.
Seems to be the proverbial "black hole" and go figure.
So Sorry to hear it.
I hope it gets resolved quickly.
