Plan the most Awesome trip with the Ultimate LEGOLAND Florida Guide

Save this post for later

New Celebrations, a New Ride, and everything open to explore, LEGOLAND is the perfect destination for a family trip in 2023.

When my family first started visiting LEGOLAND, I had no idea how popular the destination actually was. But it’s no surprise that families love the LEGOLAND Hotel being just steps from the ticket entrance, a water park perfect for kids under 12, and the brand new Peppa Pig Theme Park!

LEGOLAND is the perfect vacation if you are looking for a long weekend of travel, or as my Partner likes to say, the ‘Less Stress’ Orlando Theme Park.

Plan Your visit to LEGOLAND – Quick FAQs

First things first, LEGOLAND is open year round, but hours may vary. Since the park is designed for kids age 2-12, the hours are not very late in the parks, but there are activities, movies, character meets and playground (with Bars next to the Playgrounds) in the resorts.

Obviously, there’s the question of LEGOLAND being worth it , especially when you compare it to other theme parks and value for the money. And while you can find the entire post detailing the in’s and out’s of what makes it worth it hyperlinked above, for our family and millions of others that continue to visit this year, the answer is that yes- the park is worth it.

Which brings us to our next biggest question- that of a Budget Vacation. It’s only normal as we see lots of upheaval in both the economy and these unprecedented times- what and how can you have fun and have it on a budget? That answer is less clear, but we highly recommend reading this Budget LEGOLAND Orlando Guide for those of you looking to make this an economical trip.

westoe travel legoland

In line with a budget trip are those tourists who’ve added LEGOLAND on as a one day adventure while visiting the other parks and attractions! Since LEGOLAND is only about 45-60 minutes away from the other three Big Central Florida Theme Parks, it’s an obvious addition. There are some considerations to be made when only doing LEGOLAND in one day, which we cover in detail in the post linked.

While LEGOLAND has an all-inclusive feel when you add in the Main LEGOLAND or Pirate Hotel, it may be too theme-park inspired for some guests! There are many close by All Inclusive Resorts that may fit your travel party better, especially if you are coming for a longer Florida trip .

The main things surrounding a one day LEGOLAND Florida trip are making sure you get everything you want done- like a bucket list of sorts. There are a lot of things to do, not just rides, but shows and character meets and fun building opportunities (which is covered in the LEGOLAND Bucket List )

How Many Days do you Need at LEGOLAND Florida?

If you only have one day, you can squeeze in a lot of attractions and fun. But for the full experience, you’ll want to plan for at least two days for the main LEGOLAND Florida Theme Park. If you add in a visit to the Water Park, the Resorts, and the new Peppa Pig Theme Park, you could easily spend four days at LEGOLAND Florida Resort.

We’d encourage you to check out this updated list of Florida Lego Hacks so that you can maximize your time at the parks! It’s not a cut and dry park (though some on the internet would like you to think you can just waltz into LEGOLAND with zero plans or research). While winging it is fun, it’s better to have some sort of plan in place for a trip to Orlando (especially if you have food allergies)

As Floridian Natives, LEGOLAND has been a fun addition for our family since opening 10 years ago. Below you’ll find information needed for your trip, as well as insightful tips and ideas for making your vacation amazing.

1.When should you visit LEGOLAND?

There are prime times to visit LEGOLAND, and then there are budget/off season times to visit.

If you visit during the prime times, you’ll find that all of the options and entertainment are open- but you’ll be dealing with higher crowds from tourists coming in to visit.

If you come during the budget/off seasons, you’ll find that while the crowds are lower, so are the offerings. LEGOLAND also closes some of the park days during this time (typically wednesday, but other days as well) and this could impact your trip.

There is an entire guide on the Best Times to Visit LEGOLAND , but for a quick reference guide, see this image below.

westoe travel legoland

Weekdays always have a lower crowd level than Weekends (with the exception of Holidays). Most people visiting LEGOLAND are coming in on Thursday or Friday, and leave on Sunday or Monday.

Indeed, this style of vacation (over a long weekend) is so popular that during the off season times (like early fall and late winter) LEGOLAND is closed on weekdays, typically Wednesday.

Weekends also boast the longer hours, typically 10am-6 or 7pm. On Holiday weekends or high crowd weeks, you can expect a closing time of 8 or 9 (but those are rare exceptions).

Simply put, if you want a lower crowd experience, go during the weekdays on non holiday weeks. If you go during prime times of spring break, summer break and christmas break and plan to head to LEGOLAND on the weekends, know that crowds will be high and planning extra time will be essential.

2. Where should you stay when you come to LEGOLAND?

There are three properties available at the LEGOLAND resort, and we’ve stayed at two of them with our kids (the third hasn’t been open for some time and operates seasonally!)

The two Hotels that are open year round are the LEGOLAND Hotel, and the LEGOLAND Pirate Hotel. The Beach Retreat, a budget friendly option, is located across the street and accessible by shuttle (that’s the seasonal one!)

westoe travel legoland

Both of the standard rooms are set up identically, but the difference is the theming of the rooms (from the halls, to the elevators, to the insides- they are all themed according to the specific hotel!) Price is comparable to both- though the Pirate Hotel has an increased price as the amenities are newer.

westoe travel legoland

For those with toddlers, I highly recommend the LEGOLAND Hotel , as the bunks are more sturdy, built lower, and the duplo legos come standard in the rooms.

For those with kiddos above 5 (especially those that love pirates!) , I highly recommend the LEGOLAND Pirate Hotel! The rooms are more modern, with a metal bunk bed and smaller regular legos in room. Both of the rooms are set up similarly though- so if you have a lot of patience either will be fun!

westoe travel legoland

There are other local hotel options too, but the housing rentals are pretty slim. For local hotel options, you can stay somewhere like the Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, Quality Inn etc. The town you want to stay in is Winter Haven (be wary of internet sites that try to send you farther away from LEGOLAND)

You can also stay at Disney World or Universal, as those are 45-60 minutes away from LEGOLAND.

Where to stay is only one part of the equation though, and you can find essential tips for your actually vacation in this LEGOLAND Orlando tip post for an awesome vacation.

3. Age ranges for LEGOLAND Orlando

Some would argue that LEGOLAND is only for kids, and they technically aren’t wrong as it’s designed for ages 2-12. There are plenty of things there to do for this younger crowd, including some of the best rides in the Orlando area.

While the median age is around 6, guests under three still have a ton to do. In fact, three year olds have an incredible amount of fun things to do at LEGOLAND.

And yes… there’s even things there for adults.

Will an older child/tween/teen have fun at LEGOLAND Orlando? I would say yes. As a middle/high school teacher for several years, it’s amazing to me that we want kids to grow up so fast. These tweens and teens still have a lot of creativity in them, and a trip to LEGOLAND could do wonders for their ingenuity and problem solving skills.

Would teens also have more fun at say, Universal Orlando, or Seaworld riding all the rides? Also Yes. Ultimately you know your family best to decide if playing with LEGOs is a fun way to pass the time.

4. What to Pack for LEGOLAND

Besides packing your usual things, it’s important to pack some “theme park” items that will make your vacation easier. I’ve got a full guide for babies and toddlers for packing at LEGOLAND, but below you’ll get the condensed run down.

Cold and Hot weather clothes (as well as rain gear) plus at least two pairs of shoes. Consider what you’ll need for the weather as well, like sunscreen, hats, sunglasses and a portable fan, you can get a handheld one ( which I swear by) and also a stroller clip on one ! *** make sure you check and charge before your trip- especially if you opt for a cheap model.

Easy to Carry Bags – They have drawstring bags and reusable shopping bags at LEGOLAND, but I think most people underestimate the amount of stuff they bring into the parks and the amount of stuff they take out of the parks! I always wear an over the shoulder bag or fanny pack to store my wallet and keys.

EyeCovers /Eye Mask – these are a must for a good night sleep. Every hotel I’ve ever stayed in is TOO bright at night, and the LEGOLAND hotel has this weird beeping light for it’s alarm system. Plus these will be helpful while your traveling.

Portable Charger – Save your phone battery with a portable charger . we use this one at every theme park ( it’s the anker brand) , it’s easy to charge and holds the charge for what seems like forever! We use it for our phones and the rechargeable fans we talked about above.

Water Bottle – Bringing a water bottle inside is just a smart and easy hack that saves you time and sanity! Dehydration is no joke at theme parks (it’s also why we bring these electrolyte hydration packets with us!) And it can be hard to stay hydrated if you don’t have it with you.

5. Food Expectations at LEGOLAND Orlando

Next up, let’s talk about Food Options at LEGOLAND Florida!

For Starters, it’s important to note that the only table service/sit down options are in the resorts. So inside the parks you will only find more casual fast food type options.

There are multiple fast food type eateries inside the main LEGOLAND theme park, and two in the Water Park (although one is seasonal). The hours and offerings vary significantly, so listing them here would not be helpful. You can check the LEGOLAND app when you are on property to see what is open, and what the hours are.

westoe travel legoland

Eating at the casual options inside the park is fine for a one day trip, but if you are there more than one day, it’s important to get some quality eats at the Resorts.

Inside the Resorts you’ll find the Skyliner Cafe, Bricks Restaurant and Shipwreck Restaurant. These are all sit down casual restaurants with a good (but limited) menu. We’ve eaten at all three multiple times on several trips, and Shipwreck (the newest addition) is our favorite hands down.

westoe travel legoland

LEGOLAND can accommodate Food Allergies, which you can read about more in this LEGOLAND Food Allergy Guide , but you should note that snacks will be hard to come by.

For snacks of all shapes and sizes, head over to Publix Supermarket which is directly across the street. You could comfortably walk, but it’s recommended to drive as the sidewalks are not very kid friendly (or you could have it delivered!)

If you stay on property, there is a small mini fridge in the room. We’ve packed breakfast items and some lunch items in the mini fridge with ease (think sandwiches, yogurt, fruit, etc).

Directly outside of LEGOLAND are a number of restaurants including Starbucks, Chick-fil-a, Five Guys, Boston Market etc. There is also a Walmart and a WinnDixie within 15 minutes as well.

6. LEGOLAND Water Park Planning

On property you will find a second gate at the very back of LEGOLAND theme park. Inside LEGOLAND water park are multiple activities for every age range. There’s plenty of stuff to do for the little kids, and for the big kids.

The Hours at LEGOLAND water park are shorter than the theme park, typically 12-4. We’ve found that this is just enough time to get in, get changed, play play play, grab a snack and then head out before they close at 4.

Is it worth it on vacation? We’ve covered all the in’s and out’s of LEGOLAND’s water park being a worthy vacation addition , but ultimately, if you are staying on property for a few days, it’s a fun way to pass the time. If you are coming only for one day, it’s not worth trying to squeeze it in.

a lazy river at legoland, the water is a light blue, and inside the water are clear tubes.

7. Other things to see nearby LEGOLAND

Legoland is roughly 45-60 minutes away from the other Orlando Area Theme Parks like Disney World and Universal. While we are a big fan of combo trips, there’s also a lot of fun in doing an exclusive LEGOLAND Vacation.

20 minutes away from LEGOLAND is the Bok Tower Gardens. The Bok Tower Gardens has a mini museum, restaurant, walking paths, regular gardens, and a most magical children’s garden. It is budget friendly to attend, and it feels like you’ve stepped into a movie!

For those of you looking for a combo trip, find information about Disney World with Toddlers, and a Disney World Preschool Itinerary.

Last but Not Least

I think it’s important to set some expectations for LEGOLAND, in that it’s more of a cruise on land. We go for 3-5 days, enjoy the offerings, and then plan to do it again next year!

Overall, LEGOLAND is a fun vacation that is less stressful than Disney World, but more involved than a Beach Vacation.

The Best Times to Visit LEGOLAND

Planning a trip to Legoland can be exciting, but also overwhelming trying to figure out the best time to visit to avoid crowds. This comprehensive guide breaks down everything you need to know for visiting Legoland, including the least busy times, top rides to experience when it’s not crowded, crowd predictions, and other important tips to make the most of your Legoland vacation. This goes for each U.S. Legoland location: California , Florida , and New York .

Least Busy Times

To experience shorter lines and fewer crowds, the best times to visit Legoland are:

Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday tend to be less crowded compared to weekends. Many guests plan their trips over the weekend, when kids are out of school and parents are off work. Targeting weekdays allows you to avoid the high weekend crowds.

September and October

Once school is back in session, September and October (minus Columbus Day weekend) tend to be quieter months at Legoland as families avoid pulling kids out of school. The weather is still nice during this timeframe, too.

Winter Months

January and February (except President’s Day weekend) tend to be slower months due to kids being in school and the cooler weather. Legoland does decorate beautifully for the holidays in November and December, so visiting during these months allows you to experience the park while avoiding summer crowds. The New York location closes seasonally around mid-October through late March.

Best Rides When Not Crowded

When Legoland is less crowded, take advantage by experiencing the most popular rides with shorter wait times:

This indoor/outdoor rollercoaster is one of the best rides Legoland has to offer. Ride while wait times are short!

Technic Coaster

For thrill-seekers, don’t miss this accelerated launch coaster that reaches speeds up to 55 mph.

Lost Kingdom Adventure

Another guest favorite, this interactive dark ride takes you through an ancient temple filled with skeletons and mummies. Use your laser gun to rack up points.

Aquazone Wave Racers

On warm days, race around the lake in these fun water jet skis. Lines tend to be shorter on weekdays and non-summer months.

Kid Power Towers

A fun tower ride that lifts guests up and provides a sudden drop back down. Great for kids and parents.

Crowd Information

To best plan your visit, here is key information on Legoland crowds:

Busiest Times

The peak crowds at Legoland hit during:

  • Spring Break (March and April)
  • Summers (June through early August)
  • Holidays like Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day

Busiest Days

Crowds tend to be higher on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays. Tuesday through Thursday are the least busy days.

Daily Crowd Flow

Legoland is busiest between 11am–3pm. Arrive early and stay until close to maximize time in low crowds.

Seasonal Events

Legoland hosts great seasonal events around Halloween and Holidays that draw larger attendance. Check the park calendar so you know what events are happening during your trip.

Tips to Beat the Crowds

If you have to visit Legoland during a busy time, use these tips to make the most of it:

  • Arrive 30 minutes before park open to ride popular attractions first before crowds hit
  • Use Single Rider lines to avoid long standby queues
  • Check wait times on the Legoland app and target rides with lower times
  • See shows and meet & greets while wait times are high
  • Consider booking Legoland VIP Tours that provide front of line access

Tips for the Park

Check opening hours and calendar.

Legoland parks have varying opening hours and seasonal closures, so check the official park website for the most up-to-date operating calendar. Many parks close 1-2 days per week during off-peak seasons. Planning around open days will ensure your trip goes smoothly.

Purchase Tickets in Advance

Buy tickets ahead of time online to save money. Look for discounted tickets on sites like UndercoverTourist.com. Advance tickets also allow you to reserve a date to visit and skip ticket lines.

Book Hotel Early

Legoland hotels fill up quickly, especially in peak seasons. Book your on-site hotel stay 3–6 months in advance for the best rates and availability. The hotels offer fun Lego theming, entertainment, early park access, and more.

Download the App

Use the Legoland app to view park maps, show schedules, wait times, restaurant menus, and more. The app is handy for navigating the parks efficiently.

Check Height Restrictions

Some Legoland rides have height requirements, so confirm your child meets all restrictions to avoid disappointment. Check height info on the park website.

Pack a Change of Clothes

Many water rides and play areas get you wet at Legoland. Pack dry clothes to keep kids comfortable after water fun.

Arrive Early

Arriving 30–60 minutes before opening allows you to hit popular rides first before crowds build. Take advantage of short early morning wait times.

Planning your trip during less busy times, avoiding peak days and crowds, and using crowds to your advantage will ensure your Legoland vacation is memorable. Use this guide to pick the best dates and times that work for your family. The key is to be flexible and have a game plan when you visit. Have a wonderful trip to Legoland!

LEGOLAND – A Complete Guide

westoe travel legoland

Updated January 5, 2023

***It’s been a few years since I visited LEGOLAND, but this post will provide plenty of basic planning info for your visit.

So, you’re straying from your Disney trip (it’s OK!) to head south for a bit to beautiful San Diego. About 70 miles away sits LEGOLAND, which is a unique park with lots to offer to young children. I recommend it for kids up to age 12, as many of the rides may seem ‘babyish’ to those any older.

The trip from Disneyland to LEGOLAND can be painless if you drive early to avoid traffic and take advantage of the carpool lanes. Once you drive through Camp Pendleton, you’ll travel to Oceanside and into Carlsbad, where LEGOLAND is. Camp Pendleton is a Marine base and is a beautiful route that will add interest to your trip. You’ll stay on I-5 and won’t stop at the actual base. If you don’t leave early, leave after 10:00am to ensure traffic has died down.

Basic Scoop

Here’s my brief summary of the park: It’s a special place filled with unique creations and is fun to enjoy once or twice. There are things at LL that you won’t see it DLR and there is a charm there unlike any other place.

While planning, use their  interactive park map  to see the attractions up close.

legoland_coast_cruise

  • Tickets – Many options to consider, depending on the time you’re allowing for your visit. You can really enjoy all LEGOLAND has to offer in a single day. If you decide to visit all three parts of LEGOLAND (main park, water park and aquarium) go for two days. Dedicate one to the main park and the other to the aquarium and water park.
  • Hours – Most days include hours from 10am-5pm. During off season, some mid-week days are closed. Hours are not always consistent for all three parks. Be sure to check before you go. More popular days have later hours.
  • Hotel – LEGOLAND Hotel is a whimsically designed property that children will love. Pirate, Kingdom or Adventure themed rooms are available. Hotel guests enjoy a 30 minute head-start to their day with early entrance into the park. Nightly entertainment is available on-site, too. Note: If you’re happy with your DLR area hotel, you can skip the LEGOLAND hotel. Drive down for the day and return to Anaheim in the evening.

baa56eb69146441a870a7ea68ae69b60

The 3 Parts of LEGOLAND

  • LEGOLAND – The main park, the first idea and what you shouldn’t miss. Rides, shows, splash pads, and MiniLand are here. The park includes around 60 shows, attractions, rides and exhibits.
  • SEALIFE Aquarium – This is a creatively designed aquarium intending to pull childred into the world of sea life with inviting ways to learn.
  • LEGOLAND Water Park – Geared for kids ages 2-12. The LEGOLAND Water Park is creative and fun with large foam LEGOS floating through the lazy river, a huge water play structure made to look like it was built with LEGOS and more. The  LEGOLAND Chima Water Park  is included in the admission cost of the LEGOLAND Water Park.

Dining at LEGOLAND

  • Options are very limited in comparison to Disneyland, so know what to expect.
  • Fun Town Market is the best for a variety of options, hot and cold, with healthy selections.
  • Granny’s Apple Fries are the “churro” of this park and are delicious!
  • Because the options are limited, I recommend eating breakfast prior to entering, enjoying a lunch on-site and then leaving at close (5pm many days) to dine offsite. Later in this post, I give you two options for nearby dining in and around Carlsbad.

IMG_1998-550x366

Don’t miss these attractions at LEGOLAND

  • Fairy Tale Brook – A slow boat cruise through an ode to classic fairy tales. Good for all ages. My absolute favorite!
  • Coast Cruise – A slow boat cruise that sails through the main part of the park and allows you to see some LEGO structures less visible from other parts of the park.
  • Sky Cruiser – A unique ‘sky coaster’ that provides great views of the parks.
  • Driving School – Who could resist driving a life-size LEGO car? Two age options, so nearly everyone can enjoy this attraction. Don’t forget to get your license upon leaving! (cute, free souvenir!)
  • Hideaways – My children are big fans of this part. A huge play structure lets kids get lost and explore. Settle in by the exit and take a deep breath.
  • MiniLand – The premier attraction at the park and good for all ages. It includes LEGO creations taller than you of many large cities and Star Wars, too!

Your Strategy for the Day

While those are my favorite atttacions to visit, I recommend starting at the right side of the park. The Dragon Coaster, Technic Coaster, Lost Kingdom Adventure and Ninjago are popular attractions that will include the longest lines later in the day. Tend to those first.

My kids also love the Robotic Arm, which is slow loading and includes only a few riders at a time. Include that in your morning.

I recommend starting right, then moving to the middle of the park to enjoy the Coast Cruise and other iconic LEGOLAND attractions, then over to drive the LEGO cars, and finally to fill in with walk through attractions (including MiniLand) and playscapes.

Consider water rides, too. Enjoy those early on hot days.

Reserve ‘N’ Ride is available for an additional cost. Check out what your options are  before you visit.

LEGOLAND has a Photo Pass, too.

See what that’s all about , too, before arriving.

Additional tips

  • Consider putting children in swim suits under their clothes so they can take advantage of the splash pads and other water-filled rides.
  • Follow these suggestions for attractions appropriate for all ages and specifically young children.
  • Don’t forget the sunblock. There are less options for indoor activity at LL compared to DLR. You’ll need protection from the sun.
  • Food and beverages are technically not allowed in the park unless they’re needed for dietary restrictions. Bottled water is allowed. From my experience, bags are never checked.
  • The entrance to the LEGOLAND Water Park is only accessible through LEGOLAND, so you must walk through LEGOLAND to get to the water park. This isn’t a ton of fun if you’re carrying lots of gear, so consider that when packing.
  • Water Park admission and Aquarium admission is only available as an add-on to the LEGOLAND ticket. You may visit only the water park or aquarium, but you’ll pay for a LEGOLAND + Hopper ticket .
  • Parent Swap is available to avoid standing in line twice for rides.

Traveling by train from Disneyland to LEGOLAND

Consider taking the train from Anaheim to LEGOLAND. The drive along the sea is breathtaking, you’ll avoid traffic and the ride itself is an adventure for kids! Board the Metrolink  at the Anaheim Station, about a mile from Disneyland. The one way trip will take a little over an hour due to stops along the way. Get off at the Oceanside Station and take a cab to LEGOLAND, which will cost around $20.

Food and drinks are allowed on the double decker train. Sit on the second level for the best views. Ticket prices vary per age. An adult one-way ticket costs $13. Three children (ages 5 and under) ride free with a paid adult. Children age 6 and older are considered “Youth” and pay the same as an adult fare. Use the price finder to calculate your costs. Amtrak has travel options, too, but those tickets are more expensive.

While you’re in San Diego County

I live in Oceanside, which is the northernmost coastal suburb in San Diego. This post details soooooo much about our area.

  • The Flower Fields – Typically open from March 1 through mid-May, these fields are a sight to see. Ride a tractor through, take pictures and enjoy the views. The Flower Fields are located in Carlsbad, just a few moments from LEGOLAND.
  • Carlsbad Village – Eat dinner here and walk the quaint downtown shops before strolling to the beach prior to sunset. This area is just a few miles from LEGOLAND.
  • Oceanside Harbor – Drive north out of Carlsbad and into Oceanside on your way back to Anaheim. The Oceanside Harbor is filled with dining, shops and ships. Sea lions live there, too! The beach is steps away from the harbor, as well, if you want to add that to your trip, too. Our favorite local place to dine is Harbor Fish and Chips .
  • San Diego Zoo – Drive 45 minutes south of LEGOLAND to enjoy the world famous San Diego Zoo. It’s as amazing as everyone tells you and is worth the trip if you have the time.

Final thoughts: I do love this park for several reasons and I think it’s unique in many ways. Disneyland fans tend to not like the limited park hours when considering the cost of admission.

If you have young children in your group, I recommend trying it out for a day. I’ve never seen a young child not totally fall in love with it . We were passholders for a year, so I know more than can be contained in a single post. Enjoy!

I am Handicapped so I am still working on the number of day and where first etc. like I said I ‘ll be back with many questions. No. 1 is the end of April a good time to go to Disneyland? We are celebrating one of the girl’s 21st birthday.

Welcome, Cathie.

End of April can be good. There are some dates to avoid. I list them here:

https://disneylanddaily.com/crowd-calendar/

I recommend booking with a good agency to help with all the details. My website will do a lot, but booking with the agency I recommend doesn’t cost anything more than booking with Disney. Here’s a link to get a quote if you’re interested:

Finally, this post has lots of good planning info:

https://disneylanddaily.com/a-first-timers-guide-to-disneyland/

Let me know what else I can do to help!

We are going to Legoland mid April – is it too cold for the waterpark then?

Hi Casey, guessing you haven’t been here since it reopened but just wanted to check to see if you had any updated strategies for this park? Taking the 3.5 year old this weekend. Thanks!

I haven’t been since reopening. I don’t have an updated strategy, but the overall approach I suggest in this post should work just fine.

Hope you have a great time! Feel free to let me know if you would change what I’ve shared.

Thanks for this post, I love the idea to take the train! Do you have to have a car seat for a three year old to take an Uber from the train station to LEGO land?

That’s entirely up to you. We used car seats for our kids at that age as often as possible.

The train is a lovely ride!

Hi Casey! Just wanted to let you know that we booked a Legoland hotel+park package from getawaytoday right now. I told them “disneyland daily” as my discount code but they couldn’t find it on their system. I’m not sure if the code only works for Disneyland packages. Regardless, the agent still applied a discount for my package. I just wanted to give you a heads up in case you have to fix something on your end. Thanks again for all your help! I hope you get to visit the new Castle Hotel soon and write a review!

Hi Casey! Have you created any type of crowd calendar for Legoland like you do for Disneyland? We are looking into going to Legoland May 20-22 before heading up to Disneyland.

No. I don’t go often enough to. But, I’ve been on a few busy days recently and the strategy I have in this post works well. Hope that helps!

Hello! We are from BC, Canada and heading to Anaheim April 10-19 and wanted to make our first full day on April 11 Legoland, we will not have a car though. We have a shuttle taking us from LAX to our hotel in Anaheim (Clarion hotel) I will be solo with my two kids. (6&11) … I have been googling ideas and shuttles and have come up with nothing yet. Any suggestions? Our dollar really sucks after too convert it too.

Is the flower field walking distance from Legoland? Free?

The Flower Fields are not walking distance, nor are they free. I link up to them in the last section of this post:

https://disneylanddaily.com/legoland-a-complete-guide/#While_you8217re_in_San_Diego_County

I would look into Amtrak. You can board the train at the ARTIC station in Anaheim. Then, take it to Carlsbad.

I share how the trains work in this part of my post on transportation:

https://disneylanddaily.com/getting-to-disneyland-airports-ground-transportation-hotels-and-more/#Taking_the_Train_from_San_Diego_to_Disneyland

That would cost us about $155 return then. Same as a shuttle unfortunately, ‘cause we also have to take a cab to the train station from out hotel and then a cab to Legoland too.

I found starlight tours.they offer a transportation only option or with tickets we are from Manitoba going in June myself and my daughter.

There’s a lot of place for family getaway and this LEGOLAND is perfect for it especially to kids. They will surely enjoy all activities.

Hi Casey, We plan to drive from Anaheim to Legoland on a Thursday in late September, but wondered how early we needed to leave in order to miss the heavy traffic. Thank you 🙂

Hi there. Looks like the park opens at 10:00am. I would leave Anaheim at 7:00am. I know that sounds crazy, but SoCal traffic can be brutal. It takes just over an hour without traffic. This will allow you time to get there with traffic, get settled and to the park before opening. If you arrive in Carlsbad in record time and need to grab breakfast to kill time, go to the Bricks Family Restaurant. Kids love it. More on that here:

https://m.yelp.com/biz/bricks-family-restaurant-carlsbad

If you want to avoid traffic, leave no later than 6am.

Thank you so much for the information. Your website is so helpful ?.

Casey, Is GetAwayToday no longer selling individual Legoland Tickets? All I can get to are the city pass tickets. We just want a single day.

Hi, Shannon. If you don’t see what you’re looking for and think it should be there, don’t hesitate to call.

If I knew, I would absolutely help you. Wish I could! Their number is 555-GET-AWAY. Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do!

Thank you for all your knowledge! We have a 6 & a 3 year old & have decided to go to DL mid/Nov for a 4-night visit (Wed-Fri in park) & then head down to Legoland Sat-Sun with 2-day park tickets and staying at the legoland hotel. Still trying to decide if flights should be round trip from John Wayne…coming from MN. I love the idea of taking the train down! Any recommends or advise you might have for anything? Thank you in advance!

Hi, Michelle.

The train is a lovely way to travel. You would need to take the Amtrak from the ARTIC station in Anaheim to the Carlsbad Pointsettia station. To and from each train station would require an uber ride. The one way trip on Amtrak from Anaheim to Carlsbad is $20 per person. Your kids would be half price according to this page:

https://www.amtrak.com/children-discounts

I would fly into and out of John Wayne if you want to avoid renting a car. Hire Lansky to take you from the airport to your hotel. They provide car seats and boosters and stop en route at the grocery store so you can grab some groceries for the hotel. Then, take the train to Carlsbad for Legoland.

More on Lansky here:

https://www.golansky.com/services.html

I live near LEGOLAND. Let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi, Casey, We’re taking our son to San Diego in June (his first visit). We’ll also visit LegoLand (first time for all of us). We plan on the zoo and the Midway, a day on Coronado, and then I’m undecided on the remaining day or two. What would you prioritize for a seven-year old? Thank you, as always!

Hey, there. Definitely consider La Jolla. It’s such a lovely place to visit. I also think the SEAL Tour would be fun for you guys. Check out all of that and more here:

https://disneylanddaily.com/all-about-san-diego-travel-to-what-to-do-the-zoo-and-more/

Hi Casey! This is the 2nd year in a row for my son and I using your blog to navigate DLR and SoCal. This year we want to spend less time at Disney and go to Legoland. Do you think 4-days is simply too long at LL and we will start to feel bored? I want to be conservative as we are slackers when it comes to vacay and I dont know how the nap situation will look given LL short days. I also wondered if you had any info on traveling from Carlsbad to San Diego airport. All the best to the Starnes family!

4 days is a lot for Legoland. But if you’re staying close by, you can enjoy Carlsbad and the beach, too.

You can take the Coaster or Amtrak from Carlsbad to the San Diego airport. Then, Uber to the airport or take the bus. Lots more on transportation in this post. Let me know if you have any questions. I love the train!

https://disneylanddaily.com/getting-to-disneyland-airports-ground-transportation-hotels-and-more/

Hi Casey Your site is absolutely amazing. Thank you for sharing your wisdom!! Does the train from Disneylan drop you right at LEGOLAND? If so can you do a day trip- take the train in the morning and come back in the evening? Do you know how much the train tickets are ? Thanks!

Thank you! Your best bet is to take the Amtrak from the Anaheim ARTIC station, get off in Carlsbad and then Uber to Legoland. The station is not close enough to the park to walk. LOTS more info in this post. Take a look and let me know what questions you have.

Also, it’s $20 one way from Anaheim to Carlsbad on the Amtrak.

One of my favorite things about LL is the play area offered at many of the bigger rides. The kids get to play with Legos while the parents wait peacefully in line. DLR could really use this feature! We spent 3 days at Disney over summer and my kids asked at almost every ride where the play area was! We’re pretty local and are heading back to LL in a couple of weeks for the winter festivities.

We love Legoland! One thing we sometimes do is get their one hour pass, which if free. You can be in the park for one hour, as long as you buy something. We go in, ride our favorite couple of rides, and then buy a keychain on our way out. It’s a great way to get a taste of the park, but still have the day left to go to the beach!

Great tip! Thanks, Shay.

How much is taxi from Aneheim to Legoland?

It would be over $100. I recommend contacting Lansky instead: https://www.golansky.com/

Their rates are good, they have nice cars and the service is excellent.

My Ultimate LEGOLAND Packing List for Families

Sharing is caring!

Are you planning a LEGOLAND vacation? You won’t want to miss this list of what to pack for LEGOLAND!

This legoland packing list was written by family travel expert marcie cheung and contains affiliate links, which means if you purchase something from one of my affiliate links, i may earn a small commission that goes back into maintaining this blog..

My kids LOVE going to LEGOLAND California. It’s just a 3-hour flight from Seattle so it’s pretty easy for us to go on school breaks or even a long weekend.

Since my family goes frequently, I figured I’d jot down exactly what we bring to LEGOLAND California as well as a general list of what to pack for LEGOLAND for families with kids of all ages.

While I wrote this LEGOLAND packing list with California in mind, most of this stuff would also apply to LEGOLAND Florida.

Packing for the Airplane

For our family, waiting around the airport and sitting on the plane are the most stressful parts of our trip to LEGOLAND.

Image of two boys with backpacks in front of the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. Photo credit: Marcie Cheung of Marcie in Mommyland

So, we always make sure that our carry-on bags have exactly what we need. And each kid gets their own backpack full of stuff.

Here’s what we put in our carry-on bags:

Essential Documents

This includes tickets, IDs, and travel insurance. Honestly, I keep our airline tickets, hotel reservations, car reservations, etc all on my phone. But, it can be helpful to have paper copies if you tend to not charge your phone frequently.

Comfort Items

This includes neck pillows , earplugs , lightweight blankets , and eye masks (if there’s any chance we’ll sleep on the flight).

Sometimes my kids bring a stuffy (like a Squishmallow) that they use as a pillow and comfort item.

Entertainment

This includes tablets , books, and noise-cancelling headphones . I love my Bose headphones but they are a bit pricey for my kids. So, they have these ones that are also pretty good.

Personally, I like to read physical books so I usually put a paperback in my bag. My kids usually put 1-2 books in their bags in case they need a break from screens.

We definitely do a lot of screen time when we travel. I suggest downloading a movie or episodes of their favorite shows while you have WiFi in the airport. It’s also a good time to update any games on their tablets.

And you MUST double-check that you have the right charging cables for any devices you bring.

Snacks and Refillable Water Bottles

Airport food can be crazy expensive. I usually hit up Target and grab a few small snacks. Beef jerkey or protein bars are great to offset any candy or chips they might eat.

We’re also big fans of bringing our own water bottles. I’m obsessed with our HydroFlasks because the water stays super cold all day long. We fill them up at the airport. They are usually less messy than getting drinks in cups on the plane.

Extra Clothes

It’s usually a lot warmer in San Diego than it is in Seattle, so we often pack shorts in our carry-on bags and change at the airport. Sometimes I pack an extra shirt for my kids because you just never know.

I also get super cold on airplanes so I usually have a sweatshirt that I wear on the plane.

Packing for the Hotel Stay

If you’re staying at the LEGOLAND Hotel or the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel , they are totally set up for families. They have a night light, snacks, and LEGO activities in the room.

Image of two boys playing LEGOs at the LEGOLAND Castle Hotel. Photo credit: Marcie Cheung

If you’re staying at a hotel near LEGOLAND , you’ll want to check their amenities before you pack.

Here’s what you might need for the hotel:

Make sure that each person has casual wear, swimwear, underwear, socks, and pajamas. I like to make sure that people have a sweatshirt or jacket, too.

We usually wear sneakers in the parks but it’s nice to have sandals or flip flops if you will be enjoying the hotel pool.

Toiletries and Medications

You should bring travel-sized items , sunscreen , and a first-aid kit . We always carry Neosporin with us and always use it.

You’ll also want to make sure you have any prescription medications (and make sure you have enough to last you the entire trip).

Snacks and Non-Perishable Food Items for Quick Bites

We usually bring some easy breakfast items (like cereal bars or granola bars) for the kids to eat before we’re ready to go downstairs for breakfast.

It’s also a good idea to have a few snacks to munch on in the room if you take a mid-day break or need something before bed (if your kids don’t eat much dinner).

Small LEGO Sets

If you’re not staying at a LEGOLAND hotel (which has LEGOs in the rooms), you might want to bring some small LEGO sets for your kids to build when they are hanging out in the room.

Extra Bags for Dirty Laundry

I personally hate mixing dirty clothes with clean clothes when we re-pack to head home. It can be helpful to throw dirty clothes into a garbage bag or extra packing cube to make it easy to know what you need to wash when you get home.

What to Bring into the LEGOLAND Theme Parks

We usually bring in a backpack that has a bunch of stuff in it. When my husband comes with us, he carries that backpack (and I usually have more stuff in it like an extra water bottle). But when it’s just me, I bring the bare essentials.

Park Essentials

We usually grab a printed park map so the kids can help me navigate and choose what they want to do. It also keeps their hands busy, which is always a bonus.

If you have printed tickets or coupons, make sure to bring those. I usually have my tickets on my phone.

Weather-Appropriate Clothing

Typically, we wear t-shirts, shorts, and sweatshirts in the morning. We always have hats, sunglasses, and rain gear (if there’s the slightest chance of rain).

Image of Marcie Cheung of Marcie in Mommyland and her kids at LEGOLAND California

You’ll also want comfortable walking shoes for everyone in your family. If it’s raining, you might also want to pack an extra pair of dry socks for everyone.

Change of Clothes

After water rides or play areas, kids might appreciate a change into dry clothes. This is also really helpful if your kids are messy eaters or don’t like being in dirty clothes.

Power Banks for Electronics

One of my biggest LEGOLAND tips is to bring a portable battery pack so you can keep your phone and any electronics you bring fully charged.

There’s a LEGOLAND app you can use in the parks, but it can drain your battery. Plus, you’ll probably take more photos and videos than you do on a normal day.

Sometimes we bring tablets or Nintendo Switches for our kids to use while we wait in line or eat lunch. Having a way to keep them charged can minimize meltdowns.

Water Bottles and Snacks

I actually think the food at LEGOLAND is pretty good (for theme park food) so most of the time we just eat in the park. But if your kids are picky or they like to snack all day long, just pack your own.

Wet Wipes or Hand Sanitizer

To be honest, we don’t usually use wet wipes or hand sanitizer much. The big exception is in theme parks. I think these are essential to keep hands clean, especially before and after meals or snacks.

But mainly I use them to minimize our risk of getting sick because my kids touch EVERYTHING.

Stroller or Wagon for Younger Kids

If you’re visiting LEGOLAND with a baby, toddler, or preschooler, it’s a great idea to have a stroller. This makes it easier to get around the park, saves energy, and sometimes even encourages a mid-day nap.

You can also rent a stroller near the LEGOLAND entrance. We’ve done this before and it’s been a good experience.

Souvenir Budget and Spending Plan

I only included this on the list in case you are giving your kids gift cards or cash to spend on souvenirs. You’ll definitely want to bring these with you (or you’ll never hear the end of it from your kiddos)!

LEGO Minifigures

When you visit LEGOLAND, your kids will have an opportunity to trade minifigures with LEGOLAND staff members. You can buy new minifigures at the stores there, but it’s MUCH cheaper to bring ones from home.

The only rule is that they need to have all their body parts in order to trade. Have your kids go through their LEGO bins and see which characters they are cool trading.

Things to Bring to the LEGOLAND Water Park

When visiting the LEGOLAND Water Park, there are some key things to bring for a fun and comfortable experience.

Obviously, you’ll want swimwear and a change of dry clothes for after you’re done in the pool. Flip-flops or sandals are also great for walking around the area. I like to keep things in a water-resistant beach bag .

One thing to note is that you can’t go on the slides if you have swimwear with exposed zippers or buttons. And you can’t wear water shoes on the slides.

You’ll also need to bring your own towels . They do NOT have towels there. We usually bring Turkish towels or microfiber towels because they don’t take up much room.

The SoCal sun can be pretty strong (especially for us Seattle folks) so you’ll want to apply sunscreen throughout the day. It’s extra important to reapply after swimming.

Along those same lines, it’s helpful to have hats and sunglasses to protect your face and eyes from the bright sunlight. If you’re kids like swimming with goggles , be sure to pack them.

If you think you’ll want to take photos of your kids while they are in the water park, you might consider a waterproof phone case . That way, you won’t stress out about accidentally dropping your phone in the water.

We also bring our reusable water bottles to make sure everyone stays hydrated all day long.

LEGO-Themed Clothing

This is totally optional, but I’m a big fan of doing family-matching clothing at theme parks (at least until my kids say no).

I’ve found some cute things at Target, Etsy, and Amazon over the years. Here are my top picks:

  • Demo Expert/Master Builder/Clean Up Crew
  • Personalized LEGOLAND Vacation Family Shirts
  • LEGO Movie Character Shirts
  • Personalized LEGO Minifigure Heads
  • LEGOLAND Family Matching Shirts
  • Yellow Brickhead Shirts
  • LEGOLAND Vacation Shirts

LEGOLAND Costco Tickets | Deals & Everything You Should Know

Costco is not only one of the best warehouse stores in the world, but also a great source to buy attraction tickets to theme parks like LEGOLAND.

Purchasing theme park tickets from Costco is likely an unfamiliar process, so we're here to answer some of the most frequently asked questions about purchasing LEGOLAND tickets from Costco!

Questions We'll Answer About Costco's LEGOLAND Tickets:

How do you purchase legoland tickets from costco, can you buy legoland tickets from costco as a gift, are costco legoland tickets refundable.

  • What Types Of Special Offers Does Costco Have On LEGOLAND Tickets?

Are LEGOLAND Tickets From Costco A Good Deal?

Legoland Sign With Brick People

LEGOLAND tickets from Costco can only be purchased in Costco stores.

There is currently no option to purchase LEGOLAND tickets online from the Costco Travel website.

It's important to note however that LEGOLAND tickets aren't available year-round at Costco. LEGOLAND tickets only go on sale a few times throughout the year, so you'll need to watch for when they go on sale.

You'll typically find LEGOLAND tickets near the front of your Costco store by the giftcards or next to the Costco Travel desk if you have one at your store.

Legoland Florida Sign

If you can't find any tickets at either of these two locations it's unlikely they're on sale at all - you can always ask Costco staff if they have any though.

You'll also really only see LEGOLAND tickets on sale if you live near a LEGOLAND location (California, Florida, New York) or in a neighboring state to these attractions.

If you aren't able to find LEGOLAND tickets at your Costco store then we recommend checking out an Authorized LEGOLAND Ticket Seller like us at Theme Park Center which has great deals on LEGOLAND tickets throughout the year.

It's very common for one person to buy tickets to theme parks like LEGOLAND on behalf of an entire group or as a gift.

Luckily, you'll have no issue doing this at Costco either.

Legoland New York Sign

LEGOLAND tickets from Costco can be given as gifts or purchased on behalf of friends or family.

Just remember that these tickets need to be unused before giving them to someone else. Once a LEGOLAND ticket is scanned at the front gates it becomes nontransferable and must be used by the same person every single time.

You also aren't able to resell LEGOLAND tickets purchased from Costco, so once you buy them don't expect to be able to make a profit on these tickets.

LEGOLAND tickets are typically nonrefundable no matter where you purchase your ticket from.

This isn't exclusive to LEGOLAND as most theme park operators (including Disney and Universal) have very strict no refund policies.

In certain very exceptional circumstances you may have luck getting a refund, but these requests are few and far between, so we recommend only purchasing a LEGOLAND ticket if you know you're going to use it.

Most LEGOLAND tickets purchased from Costco are valid for an extended period of time which means if you need to reschedule your trip to LEGOLAND then your ticket will likely still be valid.

If your plans to reschedule fall out of the validity dates of your LEGOLAND ticket, then you may have better lucky asking for an extension of time to use your tickets as opposed to a full refund.

Legoland New York Entrance With People Outside

What Types Of Special Offers   Does Costco Have On LEGOLAND Tickets?

LEGOLAND ticket offers at Costco are always changing, but there are certain deals we see more often than others.

One of the most common deals at Costco is a  free child's ticket with the purchase of an adult ticket . This offer can be worth over $80 per child depending on what time of year you'll be visiting!

Another deal we've seen is  three days for the price of two . This is essentially a buy two days, get one free offer that saves you about 30% from what you would've paid directly from LEGOLAND.

Lego Knight Fighting Lego Maleficient

Finally, we've seen a lot of offers for tickets with just a standard  percentage off the gate price . These deals have ranged anywhere from 20%-40% off the price you'd buy an identical ticket type for at LEGOLAND.

These percent off deals are usually only for a very select few ticket types (usually multiple day tickets), so don't expect to find every single type of ticket available at Costco with these price markdowns.

LEGOLAND ticket deals at Costco are some of the best around and we highly recommend purchasing from them.

These ticket deals are usually such a good value it's often worth considering a Costco membership just to purchase these tickets if you don't have one already.

The only caveat is Costco doesn't sell LEGOLAND tickets year round, so if miss your window of opportunity to purchase your tickets you might have to look into other authorized LEGOLAND ticket sellers .

If you're looking to purchase LEGOLAND tickets than Costco is a trusted place to purchase from and save some money along the way - we can't recommend them enough!
