The Characteristic of Cleopatra Island is, it is a small island beach made of silky smooth white sand all over. This sand makes this island so special.

It is part of an amazing islands group very close to Marmaris.

Technically, this sandy beach is made up of very tiny sand-like empty seashells and took millions of years to form this beach. So shiny and tiny. The beach is under conservation by the government, because it takes such a long time to reproduce the sand. BEWARE that you can not take any sand with you when you leave the beach. You are also NOT allowed to take towels on to the beach since the sand sticks on to the towel.

There is also a story about this beach based on Queen Cleopatra and her lover Mark Anthony.

The story goes like this: Cleopatra island was the meeting place for Queen Cleopatra and Mark Anthony, her lover. Cleopatra wanted this little secluded island to be her secret paradise. It is believed that Mark Anthony had shiploads of white sand brought from Egypt for their secret island as present and surprise for Cleopatra.

This sand is so amazing that it feels like walking on the cloud. It actually feels like paradise. Walk barefoot on the sand and you will understand the feeling. This sand cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Another belief is that this sand reproduces itself.

The area is covered with pine trees and rocky seashore. once on the island, other things of interest to worth seeing are the Amphitheatre and other ruins.

To get to Cleopatra Island from Marmaris, first, we have to drive about 30 minutes (thru countryside) to a bay called “Gelibolu” Bay. From here we will take a boat to start our fun trip.

We will be going on a double-deck, a traditional Turkish wooden boat. These boats are great that you can sunbathe on the second level and there are tables in the shades on the first level.

Before we go to Cleopatra Island directly we will be visiting some gorgeous bays doing island hopping. We will have swimming breaks in turquoise waters. Here you can snorkel too. You will love the scenery.

Before we head to Cleopatra Island, you will be served B-B-Q lunch on the boat. Yummiieee…

After lunch, we will arrive at Cleopatra Island. You will walk to the beach from the boat (about 5 minutes) through olive trees. Here you will have about 3 hours break. How it is like?

Cleopatra Island (Sedir) is a very beautiful promenade region. The island is situated very close to the port of the Camli village. You can have a great beach and cultural day out here in the company of the ancient city of Cedrae remnants, the golden sandy Cleopatra beach, the sun and the sea .

The Camlik Port is the transportation point. About 3 km. from the Camlik Port, you will see a small village of Camli . It is believed to be the first settlement area of the Caria region. Fresh air, clean water and beautiful landscape await you there.

Ancient city of Cedrae

Sedir island is the site of the ancient city of Cedrae. The remnants are spread throughout the island. The remnants of the city walls and the antique theatre can also be seen.

The ruins on the east part of the island stands for the era of Romans. Theatre area is in good condition. On the east part of the island there is an Agora. According to some epigraphs, athletics festivals have been organized in this area for the honor of Apollon.

Boncuk Cove

About 9 kilometres away from the village Camli, you’ll find Boncuk Cove . The cove is very popular. It has a clean and comforting water. There is a facility on the shore for the visitors. The area is popular for swimming in a calm, quite and rocky are.

The region between Boncuk Cove and Karaburun is the one and only observation area in Mediterranean for the sandbar sharks’ fertility and growth. Diving tours are organized for observation especially during May-June.

If you want to go to Cleopatra Island (Sedir) and beach by private or rented car, then Camlik Port is the transportation point from the Camli village .

You’ll see the Camli Village sign on the 12th km. of Marmaris-Mugla Road . You’ll need to drive for about 6 km. more from the turn, and you’ll reach the Camli Port . There you’ll find the regular boats to the Sedir Island.

While heading back to Marmaris, we again stop for a 40-minutes swim break at the impressive Lighthouse Island.

The Aegean Sea is well-known for its crystal clear waters and strikingly serene beaches. As our boat moves from Çamlı, we take swim breaks at two different places; one at Ince Kum bay and the other at the Laciver Koy. These places are excellent locations to enjoy swimming and snorkelling. From here we sail further to the Cleopatra Island where a luscious BBQ lunch awaits us. After the lunch break, it is the time to explore the famous island of Cleopatra. You will have 2 hours long free-time opportunity to walk on the amazing sandy beach, swim or snorkel at the island of Cleopatra. The amphitheatre and the fortifications of the ancient city site of Cedrea along with the breathtaking backdrop of the mighty mountains and the bright azure waters of the bay are an added attraction.

The Cleopatra Island is known for its pale pink sands that squeak as you walk over them. This legendary island is believed to be once a secret meeting place to Queen Cleopatra and Mark Antony. Impressed by the beautiful setting and serenity of the island, Queen Cleopatra used to visit this place again and again. Mark Antony, in order to please his lover, made this island even more impressive by importing special sands from the northern Africa. The sands you’ll find here now are found nowhere else in the world. This is a specially protected natural park and no one is allowed to disturb or take the sand away from here. As one walks bare-footed on this amazing beach, the sand squeaks below your feet. One feels as if he is walking on clouds! It is an amazing feeling, the words can’t depict.
