Elroy was the best tour guide I loved him, he was excellent customer service on the phone. I was visiting as a non-skier with my bf's ski club and i was set on a snow mobile adventure. On the phone Elroy was patient, i asked tons of questions and called him back once again before i booked online. There is no mobile service at the base (on top of the mountain, yes i was texting everyone haha) so you have to arrange for your own transportation. I got a GREAT driver from a list they recommended. The driver picked me up from my resort, and was there once i finished my snowmobile tour. I was in a small group of 4 on a Thursday. They told us weekends are usually slammed, I liked the small group experience. They provide warmth appropriate suits boots and helmets if you want or not. We received an overview of the vehicle, and did quick practice run in a circle field before setting out on the trails. When we got to the top of where they take you, Elroy was awesome and took pics w our phones. I saw that they rented go-pros, which I will bring one the next time. It was pricey but definitely worth all that I needed to have a great snow mobile experience. They also have dog sledding which looked popular. A very good Snowmobile fix, for sure.

Took a group of my high school aged girl scouts up here for some dog sledding! This was the first time for most of them. Good time adventures is a little outside of frisco. We booked in advance and it was very easy. If you have a date in mind i would book a date and time in advance. 6 can go in each group and they do take out multiple groups at each time slot. When you book online you will select your "spots" on the group/sled. You are then paid, confirmed and good to go! When you book your time, keep in mind that you will need to plan on arriving 30 minutes early. You will need to fill out a waiver and there can be kind of a line. They will let you borrow a heavy warm suit and boots if you need them. It is complimentary. However they will ask you to dress as if you were going skiing and also to bring goggles. After you fill out your waiver they will ask you to go past the front desk area and there are some benches in the back room that you can get ready at. There are a few bathrooms in the buiding. Be prepared though, the line can be long! When its your time, they will tell you to head out back. At first they will have you do a picture of your group with the lead dogs. If you want to get a copy of that picture, it will cost an additional $40. After that, They will put you with your guide and they will do an intro talk. You will get to meet the dogs on your sled and the guide will tell you how to do what you need to, to go on your adventure! The girls had so much fun on their adventure. They were out for around 80 minutes on their ride. Their guide was fantastic! I think his name was caleb. Each person got a turn driving, sitting in the princess seat and then riding along side. Please do plan on bringing a little cash or having some money in your venmo to tip your guide. This is a service and that is a part of how they earn their money. The dogs are very well cared for and loved. This is definitely a great organization to support!

My mom and I decided to mush with the dogs while in town recently and it was the highlight of our trip. Our guide was awesome, the dogs were full of personality and spunk, and the place seems to be a well oiled machine. Before we started, we got photos taken with the dogs, and the guide introduced us to all of them and explained our roles. We were paired with a family of four and we all switched roles. Afterwards, we purchased a picture and thawed out by the fire and drank hot chocolate. Would definitely recommend this.

Review for Snowmobile Tour ONLY: I am going to be brief, if you have never been on a snowmobile, this is an absolutely basic introduction that will not frighten even the most skittish in your group. The tour is on modern, plushy Ski-Doo sleds and runs exclusively on a packed, groomed trail. There is no fast speeds or even remote threats of tipping or losing control. I found it boring...but my wife loved every minute. The staff is friendly (albeit terrible at taking pictures) and you leave with a smile and good memories.

My family and I had a great experience with Good times adventures. We did a snowmobile tour with Fleming who was a great guide who made sure we were all safe and comfortable. We also went back for the dog sledding. To be honest I wasn't expecting much from dog sledding but I was wrong! It was so fun. Alexa was our guide, she did an amazing job. She Made sure my 6 year old was having a great time. (Which she did) if you are ever in the Breckenridge area I highly recommend this company. Thanks for the great time, good times.

The staff is really friendly, and this was our first time on snowmobiling. I love the outdoors.

Another amazing experience with this org. Whatever these people eat for breakfast - I want some. Such great attitudes. Seriously if you leave the dog sledding activity not feeling like everyone there (staff) didn't make you feel like the only place they wanted to be was there, the only people they wanted ti be with was YOU, then you need to check in with yourself . It was super exciting , way more informative than I imagined, which I loved and absolutely breathtaking surroundings. Our Guide John loves his job so much he travels from Buena Vista daily. That's dedication thank you John, you we're fabulous today and we were all very appreciative of you sharing all your knowledge and encouraging us to love on the fur babies. Note to everyone The dogs screaming is pure JOY!!!

I don't post very often on Yelp. But my experience today with the dog sledding tour at Good Times FAR EXCEEDED my expectations. Our tour guide was the best I've ever had on ANY "excursion". We had Will, and honestly he made this experience magical for us. If you are ever thinking about doing this tour, don't hesitate. This place is top notch, professional, and very well organized. Thank you Will for making such a memorable day for myself and my daughter.

I looked all over for unique adventures to do well here in Breckenridge. I ended up choosing the good times aventures to go snowmobiling and dog sledding on different days and was not disappointed. I ended up doing business ventures in the morning which I think is the way to do it as he end up finishing around 11 and you have the rest of the day to do other adventures. I cannot stress enough that both of these experiences went above and beyond my expectations. The dog sledding was phenomenal on the dogs are very very friendly and you are more than encouraged to a pet and show them love throughout this whole experience. the crew is very personable and friendly learning. Do you know everyone's names right off the bat which makes them feel like part of your group almost immediately. You take turns being on the sled with one other person, and the guide leads with a snowmobile and a sleigh in pool with the other four people in your group. You alternate every so often. And you were very thankful for the alterations as running and being on the sled is very exhausting at altitude but oh so much fun. Since I went with a group of very competitive dudes, the instructor found a very challenging and quick turn that we all took turns attempting to make and fell/crash in fun, spectacular fashion. There's no, of course, being very fluffy, made it. There was no uncomfortable landings. The snowmobiling, which we did the second day I thought could not match the fun and experience we had with the dog sledding, but it was also entertaining and it's on right. I was a great way to explore the mountains and they take you up to the top of one of the peaks, which has a spectacular view of the surrounding mountain side. They have different packages of types of ride and we did the most basic one which was the cheapest. Are they driving around is mostly follow the Leader style so you're not zipping around through the open terrain. I do have options for this if your pocketbook allows, however, we had fun just doing the style of ride that we did have that I had to choose between the two. I definitely would do the dog sledding, but the snowmobiling also was a wonderful way to do this. Highly recommend going to this very large facility that provides both of these wonderful activities if you need to pay a company to pry this experience.

Why We're Rethinking Our Love Affair with Booking.com: A Deep Dive into the Good, the Bad, and the Ugly

T he tales I could tell you about our adventures booking accommodations around the world! From the charming streets of Venice to the bustling city life of Tokyo, Booking.com has been our go-to for over a decade. It’s been a relationship built on trust, convenience, and the sheer joy of discovering new places. But, as with all good things, there comes a time for reevaluation, especially when something doesn’t sit right. This is the story of how our unwavering loyalty to Booking.com came under scrutiny, and why you might want to think twice before making your next booking.

The Rise and Appeal of booking.com

Start with a bit of a background on Booking.com. Born in the Netherlands in 1996, their mission statement was simple yet ambitious: “to make it easier to experience the world.” Not just any online travel agency, Booking.com prided itself on being an online booking engine, a digital marketplace bringing together travelers and property owners from all walks of life. Whether it was a luxurious hotel chain or a cozy mom-and-pop rental, Booking.com seemed to have it all. And for a long time, it felt like they did.

Booking.com has always catered to those of us who prefer to be our own travel agents. The allure of organizing our own itineraries, of diving deep into the logistics of our travels without relying on someone else, was irresistible. It’s been particularly invaluable for those long, multi-week adventures across continents, from the cobblestone streets of Europe to the vast landscapes of the South Pacific. But, as we ventured into less familiar territories, we started to see the cracks.

Using Booking.com has been, for the most part, a breeze. Their interface is intuitive, their search filters precise, and their maps, oh, their maps! They’ve been a godsend, providing context and alternatives we hadn’t even considered. Each booking felt like a promise of an adventure waiting to happen, neatly organized in our account, ready for us when the world beckoned. But here’s where our tale takes a turn.

The Challenges and Doubts

After years of seamless experiences, we encountered a snag. A legitimate negative review we had left, based on a less-than-ideal stay, vanished into thin air. Poof! Just like that, it was gone, leaving us to wonder about the integrity of the reviews we had come to rely on so heavily. Were we seeing the full picture, or just a carefully curated version? This incident was the catalyst that prompted us to dig deeper into Booking.com’s reviews, and what we found was unsettling.

The internet is awash with stories of poor customer service, accusations of fraud, and tales of scams. The COVID-19 pandemic seemed to exacerbate these issues, bringing them to the forefront. It was a far cry from the Booking.com we thought we knew. The more we read, the more we questioned our loyalty. Were we blindly putting our trust in a platform that might not have our best interests at heart?

Let’s talk about the good. Booking.com has been a time-saver, an organizer, and a provider of excellent information. Their hassle-free cancellation policies have saved us more than once. The convenience of having all our bookings in one place, the detailed confirmation pages, the ease of making changes or cancellations — these are the reasons we’ve stayed loyal for so long. But, as with any relationship, it’s important to acknowledge the bad and the ugly.

The disappearance of our negative review raised a red flag about the authenticity of Booking.com’s review system. How many other travelers have had their honest feedback removed? How can we trust a platform that appears to censor genuine customer experiences? This incident was a stark reminder that no platform is perfect, and that perhaps it’s time to diversify our booking strategies.

This isn’t a goodbye to Booking.com, but rather a wake-up call. A reminder that it’s okay to question and reevaluate the tools we use, especially when they play such a crucial role in our travels. It’s about finding a balance between convenience and authenticity, between trust and skepticism. So, here’s to the next adventure, wherever it may take us, with a little more caution and a lot more wisdom.

How a group trip with strangers gave me the courage to pursue a new career

goodtime adventure tours

From life in the laboratory to daydreaming about travel writing, a spot on Intrepid’s inaugural Diversifying the Travel Media trip in Croatia gave Chau-Jean the courage and space to chart a new career.

Gloria Gaynor assures me ‘I Will Survive’ as her anthem blasts over the sound system and I concentrate on my death-grip on the handle of this orange, swimming-pool-sized, rubber inflatable speedboat.

Drops of water from the Adriatic Sea splash onto my glasses and into my mouth, while waves the size of a safety cone crash into the sides of our inflatable orange dinghy. We are on our way back from the small Croatian fishing island of Piskera in Kornati National Park to the shores of Sibenik.

When we bid goodbye to the only two inhabitants on Piskera island and their flock of sheep, I thought our journey back would be as relaxing as our visit. How wrong I was. The winds had picked up, and the waves were now crashing against the boat. It’s a two-hour journey but it seems twice as long.

goodtime adventure tours

I try to listen to Shafik Meghji, an award-winning travel journalist sitting next to me, who is telling me stories about the time he was tracking pumas in Patagonia. I’m out of my element and afraid of falling into the choppy waters, so I calculate the velocity of waves in my head. It’s a comforting mental exercise and something I did for many years as a scientist.

Earlier that day, we had made the same journey to Piskera, on a calmer, peaceful sea. White sailboats glide seamlessly along the rough waves, I wish I was one of them. From a distance, everything else seems to have a smoother go of it.

I’m with six other journalists, a photographer, our trip leader, the captain and a local guide. We’re all on Intrepid’s inaugural Diversifying the Travel Media trip – a trip designed to pair four aspiring BIPOC travel writers with four established travel writers. As one of the mentees, I had applied with my writing instructor’s encouragement, but thought it was a long shot.

Writing in lockdown gave me a reprieve from childcare and a chance to use the world as a laboratory for observation again. I never really entertained the idea of pursuing it as a career.

I had picked up writing as a distraction during the pandemic. It was something I always wanted to do. I’d left my career in science a decade before to start a family and embark on a new venture. With my partner and former colleagues’ encouragement, I started a tea company called Marulin in London to sell Taiwanese oolong tea from my family’s farms.  It was always a joy to tell the stories of Taiwanese tea producers over the generations – starting from my great-great granddad to my dad.

Writing about my infant and my family’s tea farms in lockdown gave me a reprieve from childcare and a chance to use the world as a laboratory for observation again. But I never really entertained the idea of pursuing it as a career.

When I was invited to join the trip, I was floored. I had taken a few writing classes and wasn’t sure I had it in me. I felt the same way when I held my newborn when I realised the immense responsibility I had in my hands and wondered how I would manage it.

The ginger candies I took along for motion sickness aren’t doing the trick. I’m afraid of capsizing, and I file these fears away in my head along with every scenario I’ve imagined for failing as I chart a new career course.

The rest of the group is quiet as they hunker down behind a makeshift blanket to shield themselves from the wind and water. I had only met this group of strangers once on a Zoom call for 30 minutes. It’s the first time I have travelled with people I don’t know.

goodtime adventure tours

I had my doubts when I first landed in Croatia, but the trip gave me the time and space to explore what it meant to become a travel writer. This trip was about taking the chance to change the course of my life and explore my limits, while taking some time and space from everyday demands.

Instead of worrying about what to make for dinner, I was laughing at our leader’s jokes and getting to know my fellow mentees while eating every meal together. I learned Kira, Sahkita and Queenie, were having just a hard time finding their footing in the industry.

I was the only one on the trip with a science background, while the other mentees were all trained journalists at different stages of their careers looking to pivot into travel writing. All the same, they also didn’t consider themselves travel writers. Even listening to stories from our mentors Lottie, Meera, Shafik and Georgina made me realize travel writing was not necessarily a career they had initially pursued, but an opportunity they took later in life.

While I was unsure of my place in the group and wondered whether I would ever get paid to write about travel, the joy of travel helped me to bond with everyone.  We hiked island coastlines, made candles, tasted locally-made plum liquor and honey and ate Croatian festive beignets called fritules and freshly caught sea bass.

Without my family, it was a treat to enjoy the small and big moments without having to look after someone else. Instead of carefully cutting sea bass for a four-year-old and hearing complaints about the fish, I could focus on tasting it for myself. This freedom made me a bit more fearless: I could concentrate on my surroundings and write about them without any distractions.

goodtime adventure tours

It wasn’t all play; we also got to work. In the evenings, we took part in a series of writing workshops that helped me consolidate my goal to become a writer. Topics included understanding how the industry works to the art of pitching and writing a good story. The mentors worked with us, and we were given the tools to start building a portfolio of travel writing.

During the writing workshops, I had trouble forming story pitches about the trip. I learned that pitching travel stories is a skill that must be honed. Our mentors shared how they still, even as seasoned pros, see their pitches get rejected. Hearing their stories about the necessary vulnerability and resilience that goes into this job left me feeling much more confident.

As we head closer to shore, the water calms down, and a giant orange and blue sign perched on a nearby island reminds us that we have reached Sibenik. The captain suddenly stops the boat with a swift turn into the wind. We hear a splash and look over the edge of the boat. Our guide, Pavle Ljubic, has dived into the sea. I smile and wave at him and realize that sometimes taking a plunge is what you really need.

Join a small group adventure with Intrepid and see where the journey takes you.
