Aer Lingus, the flag carrier of Ireland, has in recent years taken advantage of a favorable geographic location that’s easily accessible from the U.S., and as a result, has added numerous flights to the North American continent. This is especially true for the East Coast of the U.S. As the second-largest airline in Ireland, you should have no trouble finding an Aer Lingus flight from the U.S.

In this guide, we’ll be analyzing all of Aer Lingus’ nonstop routes between the U.S. and Ireland. We’ve got a bit of ground to cover, so let’s begin.

Aer Lingus is generally reliable when it comes to operating its aircraft on specific routes. In addition, Aer Lingus’ Dublin base makes for a relatively short flight between Ireland and much of the U.S., so we won’t be seeing high-capacity aircraft such as the Boeing 777, 747, or 787, or the Airbus A380.

Instead, Aer Lingus operates using a mostly point-to-point model to connect cities across the U.S. to Ireland.

Ireland acquires most of its air passengers from tourism, which is why the aircraft operated are smaller than, say, British Airways , which routinely uses the Airbus A380 and Boeing 777.

Check out the table below for the complete Aer Lingus route guide for flights between Ireland and the U.S.:

Now, let’s talk a bit about the different ways to fly Aer Lingus using points and miles.

Aer Lingus happens to be owned by the same parent company as British Airways and Iberia. Both of these carriers are members of the Oneworld Alliance , but Aer Lingus is currently not a formal member.

You can redeem United MileagePlus miles (through North American gateways only), Aer Lingus Avios , British Airways Avios , and Cathay Pacific Asia Miles for travel on Aer Lingus.

Aer Lingus doesn’t have many partners you can redeem miles with, but you’ll still have a few options to use points for flights on Aer Lingus.

  • Aer Lingus, British Airways, and Cathay Pacific are American Express transfer partners
  • Aer Lingus, British Airways, Cathay Pacific, and United are transfer partners with Bilt Rewards
  • Aer Lingus, British Airways, and United are transfer partners with Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • British Airways and Cathay Pacific are transfer partners with Capital One Miles
  • Cathay Pacific is a  transfer partner with Citi ThankYou Rewards
  • United, British Airways, and Cathay Pacific are transfer partners with Marriott Bonvoy

Unfortunately, Aer Lingus doesn’t currently offer any first class options on its routes between Ireland and the U.S.

Aer Lingus A321neo business class

The goal of business class is to enjoy a lie-flat bed, good food, and a peaceful flight to your destination.

Aer Lingus doesn’t disappoint in this regard, as long as you pick the best seats. In business class, you’ll enjoy a cheerful inflight experience, decent award redemptions, and good food and beverage selections.

Here are the planes that you can currently fly business class between the U.S. and Ireland — there are both narrow- and wide-body aircraft that Aer Lingus uses for these flights:

  • Airbus A330-200
  • Airbus A330-300
  • Airbus A321neo LR

Aer Lingus A330-200 Business Class

The Airbus A330 is a wide-body aircraft that’s spawned a number of different versions since the jet has been in production, with the -200 variant being among the older ones.

As far as the seats themselves go, there are 23 total in the cabin. These Thompson Vantage XL seats all lie completely flat, though they’re on the small side, with just 21 inches of width and 58 inches of pitch.

Here’s what the seat map looks like:

Aer Lingus A330-200 Business Class Seat Map

The best seats in this cabin are 3K and 5K , which are both so-called “throne” seats . If you can’t reserve those, the next best seats are the window seats at 3A and 5A.

While it’s harder to find the Aer Lingus A330-200 these days, you may still find it flying the following routes:

  • Los Angeles (LAX) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Miami (MIA) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Newark (EWR) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Orlando (MCO) – Dublin (DUB)
  • San Francisco (SFO) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Seattle (SEA) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Washington, D.C. (IAD) – Dublin (DUB)

Learn about how you can find and choose the best seats in your cabin with our ultimate guide to SeatGuru !

Aer Lingus A330-300 Business Class

The next product we’ll look at is found on the Airbus A330-300, a larger variant of the A330. The cabin itself is larger — you’ll find 30 seats instead of 23, making it 30% larger than the cabin on the -200 variant.

Otherwise, the seats themselves are identical to what you’d find in the -200, with 21 inches of pitch and 58 inches of pitch.

Here’s what the seat map looks like on this aircraft:

Aer Lingus A330-300 Business Class Seat Map

As we already discussed, the most preferred seats are the “throne” seats, of which there are 3 in this cabin. These are 3K, 5K, and 7K. You would want to pick 5K first, followed by 3K and 7K last , based on distance from the lavatories.

If the throne seats are all reserved — a very strong possibility — the next-best options are 2A, 4A, and 6A. These are true window seats and are much more private than aisle seats in 3A, 5A, and 7A.

You can generally find the A330-300 flying on the following routes:

  • Boston (BOS) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Chicago (ORD) – Dublin (DUB)
  • New York (JFK) – Dublin (DUB)

Aer Lingus A321neo LR Business Class

Finally, there’s Aer Lingus’ relatively new, narrow-body Airbus A321neo LR. The business class cabin on these planes has 16 lie-flat seats in an alternating 2-2 and 1-1 configuration.

Each seat measures 20 inches wide, extends to a bed that measures 78 inches long, and offers 45 inches of pitch when upright.

For context, this seat and configuration most closely resemble JetBlue’s original Mint product , whereby there are throne seats (the best options), and seats without direct aisle access.

Aer Lingus A321neo LR business class seat map

The best seats (especially for solo travelers) are 3A, 3K, 5A, and 5K . These are throne seats that provide tons of space all for yourself. Of course, you won’t have a seatmate to worry about, making it ideal for solo travelers.

You’ll find this single-aisle aircraft on the following routes:

  • Boston (BOS) – Shannon (SNN)
  • Cleveland (CLE) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Hartford (BDL) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Newark (EWR) – Dublin (DUB)
  • New York (JFK) – Shannon (SNN)
  • Philadelphia (PHL) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Toronto (YYZ) – Dublin (DUB)
  • Washington, D.C. (IAD) – Dublin (DUB)

Aer Lingus Premium Economy Class Options

Unfortunately, Aer Lingus doesn’t offer a premium economy product to flyers.

Aer Lingus pair dining economy

Aer Lingus is known for offering some of the most affordable economy tickets to Ireland and onwards to Europe if you’re willing to take connecting flights.

The seats aren’t the biggest economy seats in the world, but you can make your ride more comfortable by reserving the right seats on the right plane.

Our economy class ranking is as follows:

Aer Lingus A321neo LR Economy Class

The A321neo LR has the largest economy seats of all these aircraft. They’re arranged in a 3-3 configuration with a single aisle, and each measures 18 inches wide and offers 32 of pitch.

The seat map looks like this:

Aer Lingus A321neo LR economy class seat map

The best seats are in row 15, thanks to the exit row. Also, rows 13 and 14 have limited recline, so be sure to avoid those when you can. You’ll also want to avoid rows 13, 14, 25, and 34 if you can due to the restrictive recline, lack of windows, and proximity to lavatories and galleys.

That being said, snagging a seat in row 15 can make the difference between feeling constricted and feeling more free to move around. You’ll find the A321neo LR flown on these nonstop Aer Lingus routes:

Aer Lingus A330-200 Economy Class

The A330-200 has a total of 243 seats in economy. Each of them is 17 inches wide and offers 31 to 32 inches of pitch. The economy cabin is arranged in a 2-4-2 configuration as shown here:

Aer Lingus A330-200 Economy Class Seat Map

The exit row seats are located at rows 11 and 29. Row 11 seats are the best in this case, specifically seats 11A and 11C . This is because the seats are located on the opposite side of the lavatory. Instead, there’s only a galley near 11A and 11C.

If you can’t reserve 11A or 11C on Aer Lingus’ A330-200, you can try aiming for the bassinet seats at 11D/E/G to avoid the lavatories. If those are taken, we suggest you choose 11H/K, followed by seats in row 29.

You can find the A330-200 on these Aer Lingus routes to and from the U.S.:

Aer Lingus A330-300 Economy Class

Our last choice would be the Aer Lingus A330-300, which is essentially a more-crowded version of the A330-200. The seats are the same design and size, but there are more of them.

Aer Lingus’ A330-300 has 287 economy seats , whereas its A330-200 has 243. The 2-4-2 configuration remains the same, but the positioning of the lavatories and galleys is the main difference.

Check out the cabin configuration below:

Aer Lingus A330-300 Economy Class Seat Map

The best seats in this layout are in rows 8 and 30 . Fortunately, there are no lavatories near row 8, and the lavatories near row 30 are significantly further from the seats than is typical.

Those traveling as a couple should pick 2 seats on a single side of the aircraft in the exit rows to maximize comfort.

You’ll be able to find the A330-300 flown by Aer Lingus on these routes between Ireland and the U.S.:

Aer Lingus provides great options for travelers to get to Ireland without requiring positioning flights, especially in the Northeastern U.S.

For example, its network in cities like Hartford (BDL) and Philadelphia (PHL) allows flyers to avoid a connection in larger, busier airports like Boston (BOS), New York (JFK), or Washington, D.C. (IAD).

There’s a clear hierarchy of seats on any given Aer Lingus aircraft, and it will always be in the solo traveler’s best interest to book the business class throne seats. Keep in mind that these are competitive, and window seats are a decent consolation prize.

As far as coach goes, the design of the economy section goes a long way in dictating which rows of seats are best for travelers.

Now, you have the insider’s guide on Aer Lingus’ U.S. routes.

Aer Lingus Review [2024]: Are They Reliable to Fly With?

Aer Lingus Review [2024]: Are They Reliable to Fly With?

Aer Lingus can seem like just another budget airline when flying in Europe. But the Irish Airline offers more than it looks. I break down Aer Lingus and all its services in this in-depth review!

aer lingus travel to europe

If you book flights around Europe, you'll quickly see how many airlines there are. Aer Lingus can seem like just another budget airline, often known for hidden fees and bad experiences.

But Ireland's national airline also offers direct transatlantic flights at an affordable price, usually with preclearance to enter the United States. That looks pretty good!

So, what's it really like to fly with Aer Lingus? Do the affordable tickets truly represent value for money?

This is my complete Aer Lingus review so you know what to expect when you book travel with Aer Lingus.

Image of Aer Lingus logo that consists of a clover leaf

What is Aer Lingus?

Aer Lingus  means "Air Fleet" in Irish, and this is Ireland's national airline, which has operated since 1936. Nevertheless, it doesn't have the same name cache as British Airways and Air France. This is primarily due to problems following the financial crisis of 2008.

Brief History of Aer Lingus

Ryanair, Ireland's biggest airline and probably the best-known budget airline, managed to dominate the local competition following the financial crisis, leading to hard times for Aer Lingus.

Ryanair even tried to buy the airline. But Aer Lingus eventually became part of the International Airlines Group (IAG) in 2015, bringing it into partnership with airlines such as British Airways and  Iberia .

Today, Aer Lingus navigates the terrain between budget and premium airlines. It runs a lot of local European flights that start with cheap tickets with basic services, and then you need to pay for extras such as meals and luggage.

But Aer Lingus tends to land in central airports rather than the secondary airports used by true budget airlines.

Who Owns Aer Lingus?

International Airlines Group (IAG) owns Aer Lingus, a British-Spanish multinational airline holding company. IAG owns other airlines such as British Airways, Iberia, and Vueling.

Image of an aeroplane in sky with a green clover leaf on its tail

Which Routes Does Aer Lingus fly?

Aer Lingus has over 100 destinations across Europe and the United States. Aer Lingus offers two categories of flights: short-haul European flights and long-haul transatlantic flights.

Aer Lingus' IAG partners offer connecting onward flights, including Air Canada, Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, JetBlue, United Airlines overseas, and British Airways and Iberia in Europe.

Aer Lingus Details & Features

As Aer Lingus is a budget airline, it's essential to understand what's offered and what's not. Let's look at some of the features of Aer Lingus flights and the overall experience with this popular airline.

Their Fleets

Aer Lingus operates a range of Airbus aircraft. The largest in their fleet is the Airbus A330-300. The plane with the longest range is the Airbus A330-200, and the most common Aer Lingus aircraft is the Airbus A320.

European Aer Lingus Flights

On European flights, Aer Lingus offers various fares, which differentiate the service you receive. There are no first or business-class sections. All seats are the standard 78cm.

You can book a saver ticket if you want affordable Aer Lingus flights. This gives you what you would expect from a budget airline. Passengers get a seat, one small personal carry-on item, and a 10kg bag. There are no refunds, and you need to pay extra to select your seat and purchase refreshments on the plane.

You can upgrade to a Plus or Advantage seat if you're looking for more services. The premium seats on these European flights are branded as AerSpace. Passengers get the VIP treatment starting with access to the VIP lounges in the airport.

You still get stuck in the same small seats, but it only seats two people in your row, keeping the middle seat free and reserving the overhead compartment for you. Your refreshments are also complimentary on the flight.

So, depending on your budget and what you prioritize, there are good options for everyone on these European flights, which are on the Airbus A320 or A321.

If you are looking for other budget airlines that service Europe, look into these reviews on  Vueling Airlines ,  Wizz Air ,  Play Airlines , and  Eurowings .

Image of an aeroplane stationed at the airport, with the logo and name of Aer Lingus on it

Transatlantic Aer Lingus Flights

Aer Lingus' transatlantic flights to North America are operated in Airbus A330s or Boeing 757s, so you'll get your business class section. Destinations include New York, Boston, Chicago, Miami, Orlando, Los Angeles, Seattle, San Francisco, Toronto, Montreal, and Vancouver.

Economy class on transatlantic flights operates similarly. Passengers can get saver tickets, which include carry-on luggage and one complimentary meal, a legal requirement for a long-haul flight. You must pay for all your other food options, drinks, and extras.

There are also standard economy seats with a 23kg checked bag and other refreshments. All economy seats have personal entertainment screens.

While the saver option might seem a bit mean, it makes the flight affordable on a budget. You could fly between Dublin and New York for as little as $200 and round-trip flights from $350.

Business Class is just as good as you would expect from other international airlines, with fully reclining seats that measure 198cm when lying flat, almost all the baggage you can carry, luxury dining, complimentary Wi-Fi, and more.

Prices are also comparable with other transatlantic airlines such as British Airways and Emirates.

If you fly out of Dublin Airport or Shannon Airport to the United States, you can be precleared for arrival in the US, which saves you time upon landing. This is an attractive option for frequent flyers without baggage who want to clear the airport quickly.

Aer Lingus Loyalty Program

Aer Lingus does have its own rewards club, and you can earn points when you book with the airline or partner airlines, book hotels with partners, or shop with partner retailers.

There are four tiers within the club offering a variety of different benefits, such as lounge access and priority check-in. All European IAG airlines use the same mileage currencies, and you can transfer points between airlines, for example, Aer Lingus and British Airways.

Aer Lingus Baggage Policy

If you buy saver tickets, you can expect to be able to carry a bag of up to 10kgs and one personal item. If you purchase more expensive tickets, you can expect a 23kg checked bag on all flights and three bags of this size if you fly business class on a transatlantic flight.

Image of an airline seat in green color with a white cushion

Aer Lingus In-Flight Features

Unless you're flying in business class and ordering off the luxury menu, you can expect standard airplane food on Aer Lingus, which tends to be hit-and-miss. The main chicken meal was pretty tasteless when I flew, but some snacks were delicious.

Remember that unless you pay for a premium ticket, you'll need to pay for most of your meals on the flight. There's a snack menu on European flights with hot sandwiches and crisps.

On transatlantic flights, on a basic ticket, you get one free meal. Then you need to pay for all snacks and alcoholic beverages.

Aer Lingus Cancelation Policy

Cancelations and changes depend on the ticket that you buy. The premium tickets usually offer a limited number of changes or a full voucher or cash refund.

Discount tickets are non-refundable and non-changeable, though you can request a refund of government taxes if you decide not to fly. You can book your flights with Aer Lingus directly via their website or look for Aer Lingus flight deals on most of the major travel websites, including  eDreams  and  Lastminute .

What Are People Saying About Aer Lingus?

I'm always wary of looking at star ratings and individual customer reviews for airlines on websites like TripAdvisor. Usually, only people with a problem bother to leave a review online.

When you read the reviews, complaints tend to be down to people who didn't fully understand the limits of their tickets. But the ground and cabin crew always seem friendly and deal with the issue within the boundaries of what they're allowed.

That said, Aer Lingus scores relatively well for an airline on  Tripadvisor , with 3.5 stars from more than 13,000 reviews. The airline also won the TripAdvisor Travellers' Choice Award in 2017 and 2018.

The complaints that come up are fairly consistent. The seats in economy are cramped, which is true, but it's the standard 79cm size you'll expect from most airlines. You need to pay for food on the flight, which is true when you purchase a saver ticket, but this is clearly stated on the website.

Other complaints include that queues in the airport are always long. Also, fast-track features like checking in on the app are often blocked, especially on transatlantic flights. This is very frustrating as it means arriving pretty early for these flights.

Another common complaint is a lack of overhead locker storage space, which is consistent since saver flights often only include carry-on luggage.

Aer Lingus FAQs

Where does aer lingus fly.

Aer Lingus flies to scores of routes to European countries and several transatlantic routes to the United States and Canada. Popular destinations include New York, Toronto, Chicago, Birmingham, Edinburgh, Madrid, Athens, Copenhagen, and Munich.

Is Aer Lingus a Good Airline?

Aer Lingus is a good airline with an excellent safety record. It offers a wide range of flight options through its membership of IAG.

Saver tickets offer a great price but with limited services, and premium seats are as good as their competitors. There's a lot of flexibility, so you can pay for what matters to you.

Is Aer Lingus Under British Airways?

Aer Lingus and British Airways are owned by the same parent company, International Airlines Group.

Is Aer Lingus Better Than Ryanair?

Aer Lingus flights are better-rated than Ryanair flights because they fly to better airports and are more organized. Ryanair flights tend to be cheaper, and you're sacrificing various services for that lower-priced ticket. Aer Lingus is the only Irish airline with a four-star rating.

Why Is Aer Lingus So Cheap?

Aer Lingus can offer low prices firstly because it uses a limited range of airplane models to streamline maintenance. Secondly, it provides flexible tickets where you pay for what you want. You can fly on a budget if you're willing to dispense with meal services.

A hand making a heart shape with an aeroplane in the background

Is Aer Lingus Worth It?

Is booking a flight with Aer Lingus worth it? Yes, in the right circumstances.

Aer Lingus is your best option to fly directly from Ireland to the United States. It's also flexible. Want to pay the minimum, and you're happy to have limited comfort and services on the 7-8 hour flight? Then Aer Lingus' tickets are very affordable.

If you prefer more comfort, Aer Lingus' premium services are just as good as their competitors.

Aer Lingus is an excellent choice for a budget flight within Europe. It may be more expensive than true budget airlines, but it tends to fly to better airports.

Aer Lingus flies into London Heathrow in the UK, just 22 kilometers from central London. Ryanair flies into London Stansted, which is 65 kilometers from London. This can save you time and money.

Cheap flights are what they are. It can look cheap on paper and cost you more as you must pay separately for many extras.

But Aer Lingus is transparent about what to expect from each price point. It also has a lot of options, so you can pay for exactly what you want.

My Rating: 4.2/5

I'm giving Aer Lingus 4.2 stars because it offers a flexible service at a reasonable price and is clear and transparent about what you get when you buy.

If you arrive at the airport with a Saver ticket and discover that you must pay extra for checked baggage and lunch, you should have been more careful when booking. The airline also loses points due to consistent delays and frustrations when checking in.

It's common to show up at the airport and see that even the self-service kiosks aren't working. This means you've no choice but to stand in the snaking line, even when you don't have baggage to check.

It also seems a bit mean not to offer any complimentary drinks on a transatlantic flight.

  • Affordable flights, including transatlantic
  • Serviced at large airports
  • Flexibility within ticket pricing
  • Ground service can be slow
  • Limited drinks on flights
  • In-person check-in

American Airlines' Latest Sale Has Roundtrip Europe Tickets for Less Than $500

The sale ends September 17.

American Airlines has just discounted dozens of round-trip flights to Athens, Venice, and other dreamy European cities — all starting at under $500.

“Together with our partners Aer Lingus, British Airways, Finnair and Iberia, we take you to your favorite destinations in Europe,” the airline shared about the promotion on its website . “Explore limited-time deals to the U.K., Spain, France, Germany, Italy, the Netherlands, and more.”

This sale, which ends on Tuesday, Sep. 17, is valid for flights on various dates from now until May 2024. There are several blackout dates depending on the route, generally excluding holidays and peak spring break periods. Additionally, these discounted fares are only valid for weekday travel — flights from the U.S. to Europe depart on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Sundays, with return flights available on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays.

Travel + Leisure found the following round-trip deals from these U.S. cities departing over the next seven months:

  • New York (JFK) to/from London (LHR): $385
  • Miami (MIA) to/from Barcelona (BCN): $417
  • Philadelphia (PHL) to/from Venice (VCE): $464
  • Dallas (DFW) to/from Amsterdam (AMS): $483
  • Los Angeles (LAX) to/from Dublin (DUB): $495
  • Charlotte (CLT) to/from Munich (MUC): $541
  • Chicago (ORD) to/from Athens (ATH): $548

Most of these discounted fares are available in basic economy , which does not allow for flight changes and charges additional fees for a seat assignment. However, travelers can upgrade to a Main cabin fare to check a bag for free, choose a seat, and cancel a flight for a travel credit.

This latest sale from American Airlines comes as the carrier announced several new Europe routes next summer, including Chicago to Madrid; Philadelphia to Edinburgh and Milan; and Charlotte and Miami to Rome. The airline has seen success on many of these routes and will bring back its seasonal flights between its Philadelphia hub and Copenhagen, Naples, and Nice next summer.

There’s more than one way to book Aer Lingus flights with Avios; however, you can save money on taxes and fees with a bit of extra effort.

The flag carrier of the Republic of Ireland is Aer Lingus, which is a wholly owned subsidiary of International Airlines Group (IAG). This means that Aer Lingus’s loyalty program, Aer Club, also uses Avios as its points currency.

Avios can be redeemed on flights with Aer Lingus and IAG’s other airlines, including Iberia and British Airways, as well as Qatar Airways.

Booking Aer Lingus with Avios often offers excellent value in both business class and economy. However, it’s sometimes more advantageous to book a flight through one loyalty program over another.

Booking Aer Lingus via British Airways Executive Club

The easiest way to book award flights with Aer Lingus is via British Airways Executive Club .

While it might seem strange to book Aer Lingus flights through the British Airways portal, this method is simple because it’s self-contained and straightforward.

All you need to do is sign up for an Executive Club account on the British Airways website.

This will generate an account number, with which you can earn Avios directly with products such as the RBC British Airways Visa Infinite , or by moving points from transferable points currencies, including the following:

  • American Express Membership Rewards
  • American Express US Membership Rewards
  • Capital One Miles
  • Chase Ultimate Rewards
  • HSBC Rewards

Once you’ve opened an Executive Club account and have a balance of Avios, just complete a reward search via British Airways’s website to find Aer Lingus flights.

For example, a one-way flight in economy from Toronto to Dublin on an off-peak date costs just 13,000 Avios, plus $225.91 (CAD) in taxes and fees .

If you’d like to fly in Aer Lingus business class, the cost on an off-peak date from Toronto to Dublin is 50,000 Avios, plus $785.91 (CAD) in taxes and fees.

Surely, there’s a stark difference between fare classes in both the number of Avios required, and the amount of taxes and fees levied. However, it’s very much in line with British Airways’s tendency to impose high fuel surcharges on award bookings, especially in premium cabins.

On the other hand, just because booking Aer Lingus award flights via British Airways Executive Club is the easiest method, doesn’t mean it’s necessarily the most economical.

How to Sign Up for Aer Lingus AerClub

Rather than booking Aer Lingus award flights via British Airways Executive Club , the best and most cost-effective way to book Aer Lingus with Avios is through Aer Lingus AerClub.

This method requires some extra legwork, as well as navigating through a couple of antiquated websites; however, it’s certainly worth the effort.

This is because the amount of taxes and fees charged are much lower when booking through Aer Lingus AerClub, versus booking through British Airways Executive Club.

However, you’ll first need to sign up for an Aer Lingus AerClub account, which is done on the Aer Lingus website .

This is actually the only time you’ll be using the airline’s website, since in a strange twist of fate, all Aer Lingus AerClub award bookings must be made on the third-party Avios website , instead of on the loyalty program’s official website itself.

Once you’ve signed up for AerClub, head over to the Avios website and use your Aer Lingus AerClub credentials to login. You should be able to now see your AerClub number and dashboard, as well as your Aer Lingus Avios balance, if any.

In North America, Aer Lingus Avios may be earned directly with the US-issued Aer Lingus Visa Signature Card. Alternatively, AerClub is a transfer partner of American Express US Membership Rewards  and Chase Ultimate Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.

However, since British Airways Avios are much easier to come by, it’s possible to accumulate British Airways Avios, and then transfer them into your Aer Lingus AerClub account from within the Avios ecosystem.

aer lingus travel to europe

Once you’ve logged in with your Aer Lingus AerClub credentials on the Avios website, use the drop-down menu to select “Combine my Avios”, which brings you to the following screen:

Simply enter in your British Airways Executive Club credentials, and you’ll then be able to instantly transfer Avios into your AerClub account from your Executive Club account.

With Avios available in your AerClub account, you can then use the Avios website’s search function to find an Aer Lingus flight.

Note that the Avios website often suffers from bugs and instability. It’s recommended to clear your browser’s cookies or use incognito mode if you want to have maximum site functionality.

How to Book Aer Lingus with Avios on the Avios Website

With Avios available in your Aer Lingus AerClub account, the next step is to search for flights and complete a booking.

Once you’ve found your preferred flights, you’ll want to book your flight on the Avios website as soon as possible. Lingering too long on the Avios website could result in it crashing, and someone else might snag up the award seats by the time you’ve completed the search again.

As shown below, the same flight in economy from Toronto to Dublin costs 13,000 Avios, which is the same amount when booked through British Airways Executive Club . However, note that the taxes and fees only amount to $193.86 (CAD) on the Avios website, versus $225.91 (CAD) via Executive Club, which results in a savings of about $30 (CAD).

That’s because there aren’t any additional fees for making a partner booking, as you’re essentially booking directly with Aer Lingus, even if it’s via a separate website.

However, the biggest win here comes when booking business class flights.

Recall that British Airways Executive Club charges 50,000 Avios plus $785 (CAD) for a one-way Aer Lingus business class flight from Toronto to Dublin.

If you were to book that same flight on the Avios website instead, you’d still have to pay 50,000 Avios. However, the amount of taxes and fees drops down to $223.36 (CAD), which is a savings of over $550 (CAD).

Therefore, by making the extra effort to create an AerClub account and transfer Avios from your British Airways Executive Club account, you’ll wind up saving a tidy sum of cash.

Indeed, despite the fact that signing up for AerClub is a bit complicated and frustrating, it’s definitely worth the effort, especially if you’d like to fly in Aer Lingus business class.

Aer Lingus offers an excellent gateway to Europe for North American travellers. Because of the relatively short distance between major hubs such as Toronto or Boston and Dublin, it also offers great value to customers looking to redeem Avios.

While British Airways Executive Club provides the easiest way to book Aer Lingus flights with points, it’s not nearly as economical as signing up for AerClub and booking on the Avios website.

At first glance, it may seem counterintuitive to book a reward flight through a website external to the airline with which you fly. However, it’s definitely worth the extra effort, as you can save a significant amount of taxes and fees for the same flight.

Aer Lingus flash sale with millions of discounted seats - including flights to America under €200

The highly-anticipated Aer Lingus September sale is now underway, offering millions of discounted seats for a limited time only. Customer can nab significant reductions on flights to Europe, Britain and North America.

  • 10:05, 3 SEP 2024

Aer Lingus plane (file photo)

Aer Lingus has launched a massive sale, with millions of seats discounted for a limited time only. The airline's famous September sale is now underway, with flights to and from Europe, Britain and America up for grabs at heavily reduced prices.

Customers can nab 30% off destinations across Europe and Britain, while fares to North America are available from just €199 - including taxes and charges - for a limited time only.

The offers are valid for travel between October 1, 2024 and March 31, 2025, but must be booked before September 16, 2024.

Giving some travel inspiration, an Aer Lingus spokesperson said: "The shoulder season travel trend is growing, with many tourists in Europe moving away from travelling in peak summer and instead opting for the quieter months. By choosing to travel in the autumn and winter months, travellers can expect to experience fewer crowds, easier access to popular attractions and better value.

"During the off-peak Autumn season, European cities like Berlin and Geneva turn into picturesque wonderlands, while the festive buzz that begins in November brings cities across Europe to life in a magical way. For those looking to escape the cold, warmer winter destinations such as Tenerife, Faro, and Lanzarote offer milder climates, with less crowds, as do new routes launching at the end of October, Malta, Seville and Marrakesh.

"In North America, autumn and winter are some of the best times to explore iconic cities like Boston and New York. As Autumn approaches, golden and amber leaves transform their cityscapes, and from November they come alive with sparkling lights as the festive season kicks off with plenty to see and do, including the bustling Christmas markets and array of ice-skating rinks.

"For some winter sun in North America, the West Coast offers excellent options. Los Angeles, with its year-round mild climate, is the perfect destination for beach visits and outdoor activities. New route Las Vegas, starting on October 25, offers a milder climate and unbeatable entertainment, as well as the highly anticipated F1 grand prix taking place in the city in November. San Francisco's slightly cooler weather is a great option for those looking to explore its famous hills and vibrant neighborhoods without the summer fog.

"As always, customers flying to North America with Aer Lingus will enjoy complimentary meals, endless hours of in-flight entertainment, a full bar with drinks and snacks for purchase and US Customs and Border pre-clearance at Dublin and Shannon airport."

Commenting on the sale, they added: "With the end of summer approaching, Aer Lingus has launched its highly anticipated annual September sale, offering 2 million seats at reduced prices on flights to Europe, Britain and North American destinations. Whether it’s visiting a new bucket list destination or returning to a favourite spot, now is the perfect time to plan an adventure to an incredible destination at a reduced fare.

"Live from September 2 to 16, the sale includes up to 30% off flights to some of Britain and Europe’s most iconic cities and winter sun destinations, as well as each-way fares to North America starting from just €199 including taxes and charges.

"Valid for travel from October 01, 2024, to March 31, 2025, the September sale is the ultimate opportunity to book a cosy autumn escape, a festive retreat or some new year sunshine. Whether planning for a city break or relaxing holiday by the beach, Aer Lingus has something for everyone."

Aer Lingus operates over 100 routes from Dublin, Cork, Shannon and Knock to Europe, the UK and North America. The airline will operate 19 transatlantic routes in 2024 from Dublin and Shannon and a further three transatlantic routes from Manchester, UK to North America and the Caribbean. From October 25, Aer Lingus will fly a new direct route from Dublin to Las Vegas three times weekly.
