'BEST VALUE LASER' Unit price: £239 Download costs: None Key technology: PinSeeker technology selects the closest object it can find. This is designed to make differentiating the flag from background objects easier. A rain mode helps to compensate for rain and snow conditions, making it easier to pick up yardages. The Tour V2 can detect distances to the flag from 300 yards and in. A good fit in the hand and no pre-round preparation required. The process was uncomplicated and required just one push of a button to operate. But... using the device three or four times a hole takes a lot of time. Flags positioned in front of trees were sometimes hard to pick up. GM verdict (James Bunce - 23 Handicap): The benefits of a laser device for the lower handicapper, capable of consistently hitting accurate shots, are obvious. However, for many higher handicappers, distances to the front, back and middle of greens are enough. The Tour V2 felt good in the hand, but for someone who hits more shots than the lower handicappers, a lot of time is spent getting it in and out of the bag. The lack of preparation required before a round is a plus point. Value: 13/15 Ease of use: 13/15 Information: 12/15 Accuracy: 13/15 Set-up: 10/10 Ergonomics: 8/10 Performance: 16/20 Total: 85/100

Why you can trust Golf Monthly Our expert reviewers spend hours testing and comparing products and services so you can choose the best for you. Find out more about how we test .

As a relative newcomer to golf, the distance measuring device (DMD) has developed at a rapid pace. The information has become more accurate, devices are easier to use and the good news is, they're also becoming more affordable. With this in mind, we tested 12 models that have been launched since our 2011 test. Not only have top-end models improved the quality of maps and the amount of information on offer, but there has also been an influx of stripped-back versions that are easy to use and provide basic information.

The major laser brands have also refined their products to make them easier to use. All this means there are more options out there than ever before, with products designed to meet the needs of different golfers. In this test, we aim to help refine your search and identify the best products on the market.

The Golf Monthly staff conducted the test at the beautiful Liphook Golf Club in Hampshire, number 79 in the Golf Monthly Top 100 list. It was a course that the vast majority of testers had never played before and features a number of blind shots, as well as holes that require a club other than driver from the tee. The course offered the perfect opportunity to test each device to its fullest.

Test criteria:

To begin with, the test team went through the set-up process for every device to compare how easy it was to get the unit ready for play. Each member of the team then tried out two units on the course. The test team's handicaps varied from five to 24, and ranged from long-time DMD users to those who had never used one before. This helped us to test the suitability of a unit for different golfers. After the round, the team compared the features and benefits of each model and awarded points for the following:

Value: The initial price and download costs comparative to the quality of the unit.

Set-up: How easy the unit is to set up initially and download courses on to.

Ease of use: How easy it is to read yardages, as well as use any other additional features.

Information: The quality and quantity of information provided on the unit.

Ergonomics: How the unit feels in the hand, the button design and the bag clip.

Accuracy: How the yardage readings compare with other units, yardage markers and course guides.

Performance: An overall rating including how robust the unit is, the battery life, the clarity of the screen and how the unit attached to a golf bag.

Bushnell Tour V2 Review & Buyers’ Guide for 2019

The Bushnell Tour V2 with PinSeeker laser range finder is one of the most popular laser range finders on the market today, and those who are serious about golf are likely already familiar with the Bushnell name. Owners of the V2 swear by its accuracy, ease of use, and its compact size and light weight.

Bushnell Tour V2 with PinSeeker Laser Range Finder Overview

The Bushnell Tour V2 is a vertically-oriented range finder, designed to be operated with one hand. The device has tactile surfaces on the top and bottom edges, providing a nice, secure grip. Some other range finders on the market, for instance the Bushnell Pro 1600, have a horizontal orientation and are intended to be operated with both hands, like a pair of binoculars.

The Bushnell Tour V2 with PinSeeker laser range finder comes in two editions, Standard (pictured on the right) and Slope. The Standard edition is legal for use in tournaments in most cases. The Slope edition, which is not tournament-legal, uses a built-in inclinometer to take into account differences in elevation between your current location on the course and your target.

Bushnell Tour V2 with PinSeeker Laser Range Finder Specifications

  • Weight: 6.6 ounces
  • Dimensions: 4.3 x 2.8 x 1.6 inches
  • Range: 5 to 1000 yards, with an accuracy of plus or minus 1 yard
  • Reflective targets: 1000 yards
  • Trees: 600 yards
  • Flag: 300 yards
  • Magnification: 5x
  • Battery type: 3 volt lithium
  • Objective lens diameter: 24 mm
  • Weatherproof (for those who don’t mind playing in the rain)

Bushnell Tour V2 In-Depth

Form factor.

Weighing in at just 6.6 ounces, the V2 is one of the lightest golf range finders available. Its light weight and compact dimensions (4.3 x 2.8 x 1.6 inches) make it a breeze to carry around with you on the course. It fits nicely in the pocket, so it doesn’t need to be kept in the cart or your golf bag between uses, which is a nice convenience.

The Bushnell Tour V2 with PinSeeker laser range finder has a range of 5 to 1000 yards (with an accuracy of plus or minus 1 yard), depending on the size and reflectivity of the object targeted. The upper range limit is attainable with highly reflective targets. The unit accurately determines the yardage to trees up to about 600 yards.

The most important target, of course, is the flag, to which the V2 is advertised as accurate to about 300 yards. In PinSeeker mode, an accurate distance to the flag can be obtained regardless of whether the pin is fitted with a reflective prism.

Magnification

The Tour V2 has 5x magnification. This is the lowest magnification among the top laser range finders on the market today. Many have 6x or even 7x magnification, such as the Bushnell Pro 1600.

However, we found 5x is more than adequate when taking into account the maximum range to the pin of 300 yards. So, unless you really need to obtain yardages beyond that distance, you’ll likely not have any complaints about the device’s magnification.

On the flip side, the greater the magnification, the more crucial it becomes to hold a laser range finder steady in your hand to keep objects in your field of view from “jumping around,” making it more difficult to acquire your target.

Operational Modes

The V2 can be operated in two different modes – Automatic SCAN and PinSeeker.

Automatic SCAN Mode

This mode does what the name implies. As you scan targets down the fairway with the Bushnell Tour V2, the unit automatically locks on to objects and continuously updates the range display as different targets are acquired.

PinSeeker Mode

PinSeeker mode is what the Bushnell Tour V2 is known for. This advanced mode is designed to allow the device to measure the distance to the pin without inadvertently acquiring targets in the background, such as trees and buildings.

A flagstick icon appears in the lower left of the display when PinSeeker mode is active. As you move the laser over the flag, a circle will appear around the icon, informing you that the device has locked onto the pin, and that background objects are being ignored.

Slope Edition of the Bushnell Tour V2

The Slope edition of the Tour V2 has a third operating mode that that can give you a more accurate yardage uphill and downhill. It actually takes into account the elevation change between you and the pin to give you a better yardage to work with when the green is uphill or downhill from where you are playing your next shot.

An inclinometer built into the Tour V2 Slope edition displays the slope angle from -20 to +20 degrees, accurate to within 1 degree. Using this information, the Slope edition provides direction on how the shot should be played – short for downhill shots, and long for uphill shots.

If you are going to be playing in tournaments as an amateur or a professional, then you will not want to be carrying the V2 Slope edition unless you enjoy seeing a big “DQ” next to your name on the score sheet.

However, it can be used during practice rounds to help you take notes and map the course out ahead of time.

What’s Included

The Tour V2 comes with:

  • 3 volt lithium battery
  • Carrying case with strap
  • Manual written in English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Portuguese.
  • A 2-year warranty

Bushnell Tour V2 Review: Our Opinion

The Bushnell Tour V2 is a solid device that’s gained quite a following in the world of golf. We like it’s light weight and compact form. Being able to carry it in our pockets is a very nice convenience.

We were also pleased with its accuracy and “point and shoot” ease of use. We did find that there can be a delay of several seconds in getting a distance reading for targets at the upper end of its range, especially at over 250 yards. But, it wasn’t long enough to create a great deal of frustration or slow the game appreciably.

One nice touch is that the yardage readout appears in the lower part of the display. When you’re sighting the flag or most any target, the grass of the fairway or green shows at the bottom. That light background makes the distance, displayed in black LCD numbers, easy to read.

You can’t really go wrong with the Bushnell Tour V2. Bushnell’s reputation is rock-solid, and the device’s size and accuracy make it a good choice if you’re in the market for a laser range finder. But there are competing devices, most notably the Leupold GX-1 and GX-2, that should be considered if you’re comparison shopping.

Negatives About The Bushnell Tour V2

One drawback we’ve heard from owners about the Tour V2 is short battery life. Some, however, have not had a problem with that at all. It’s probably a good idea to keep a spare battery in your golf bag, just in case. If your battery dies and you’re caught without a spare, you will be missing the V2 the rest of your round.

While the Bushnell Tour V2′s 5x magnification is lower than other top golf range finders available, it isn’t too big an issue unless you really need to capture the distance to targets further than 300 yards out. Some may even appreciate that the lower magnification reduces the need to hold the unit perfectly steady.

We’ve already mentioned that there can be a delay in obtaining yardage to more distant targets, but it isn’t a showstopper.

Bushnell Tour V2: What Other Golfers Are Saying

The vast majority of comments we’ve seen and heard about the Bushnell Tour V2 are very positive.

Here are some excerpts (paraphrased) from buyer reviews:

“I bought the V2 a few weeks ago and am very pleased with it” “Very easy to use and works great!” “I find the Tour V2′s 5x magnification easier to hold steady than my old rangefinder’s 6x.” “This PinSeeker model is much better than my old one (without PinSeeker)” “Works like a charm!” “The V2 is compact, light weight and highly accurate” “If you’re in the market for a rangefinder, look no further”

Bushnell Tour V2

OVERALL RATING: 85. GRADE: B. The Bushnell Tour V2 comes from the best-known family of golf laser rangefinders in the U.S. It features vertically mounted optics and thus is typically held with one hand (as opposed to horizontally mounted optics that are more like binoculars). The Tour V2 isn’t the lightest or smallest of the vertical laser rangefinders, but it offers solid performance in a compact package. A nice shape and tacky grips make the Tour V2 comfortable to hold, and since it’s waterproof, you can use it in the rain all you like (we will be inside at the bar).

The Tour V2 graded out in the middle of the pack in our comparison of basic laser rangefinders (those that do not provide slope-adjusted distances). This doesn’t mean that it isn’t a quality device – buyers of the Bushnell Tour V2 won’t be disappointed with what they get – but the competition seems to have snuck up and introduced even better devices on the market.

  • Competitive price point
  • Comfortable form and feel
  • Limited feature set
  • Middle-of-the-road performance

Editor’s note: We did not test the Bushnell Tour V2 Slope Edition , which adds slope-adjusted distances. The Tour V2 Slope Edition is the same size and weight as the Tour V2, and has a feature set roughly equivalent to the Bushnell 1600 Slope Edition that we tested.

EASE OF USE

Though the Bushnell Tour V2 is about average in size and weight among vertical rangefinders, the differences between these devices are pretty insignificant (mere fractions of an inch in size and fractions of an ounce in weight). Our reviewers liked the form and feel of the Tour V2 in the hand, from the shape to the tacky grips on the top and bottom of the device. The Tour V2 can be held with either one or two hands – we found ourselves generally holding with one hand and steadying with the other. Reviewers liked the carry pouch, which holds the device snugly and securely even when the lid is not shut. The lid can be pressed shut with a magnetic latch, which allows quick access (and is what we most often used), or it can be zipped shut for greater security.

The strength of the Tour V2 is its clear and easy-to-read information display. The distance read-out appears in the center of the viewfinder directly below the aiming circle, and both the “mode” and “yards/meters” indicators are positioned in the lower portion of the viewfinder. Our reviewers applauded the design subtlety of positioning the black LCD distance read-out in the bottom portion of the viewfinder, where it is easy to read against the lighter colored background of the putting green, fairway or rough (the “second cut”, if you’re playing at Augusta). Contrast that with other laser rangefinders, which position the black LCD distance read-out in the top portion of the viewfinder against the typically dark background of trees or the like, and are consequently more difficult to read.

The Tour V2 features 5x magnification, and an adjustable eyepiece (+/- 2 diopter adjustment) for focusing the viewfinder. In our opinion 5x magnification gets the job done – any less magnification and obtaining target readings from over 200 yards becomes pretty difficult.

Targeting the flagstick or other objects with the aiming circle was simple – crosshairs appear around the circle when the laser is fired. There is no option to change the crosshair type.

As with virtually all laser rangefinders, there are only two buttons on the device, and this is nearly as simple as it gets. The power/laser button, located on the top of the Tour V2, is used to turn the device on/off, as well as to fire the laser to acquire target distances. The mode button, on the left side of the device, will toggle between “automatic scan” and “PinSeeker” modes (see below for discussion of these modes) if the button is pressed quickly, or swap between yards and meters as the standard unit of measurement if the button is held for several seconds. When powered off, the device will retain the previously selected mode.

There is no battery meter (Bushnell states that a fully charged 3 volt battery is estimated to last for 5,000 distance readings), but a low battery indicator light will appear in the viewfinder when the battery should be replaced (which Bushnell recommends once every 12 months). To prevent draining the battery if the button is accidentally held down for long periods, the laser can only be fired for a maximum of 10 seconds before it needs to be re-fired. Measurements are displayed for 30 seconds after readings are taken.

For more details, check out the Critical Golf comparison of laser rangefinder ease of use .

The Bushnell Tour V2 features two modes – automatic scan and PinSeeker. Changing modes is as simple as briefly pressing the mode button.

Automatic scan mode

Automatic scan mode allows the user to pan across the course and receive updated distances to different targets so long as the user keeps the power/laser button depressed. In automatic scan mode, the user may have more difficulty obtaining readings to targets with other objects close behind (such as a flagstick with trees behind it). Experienced users, however, still preferred to keep the Tour V2 in automatic scan mode virtually the entire time during play, and would aim at either the flag or, if possible, the base of the flagstick in the situation described above. It is easier, not surprisingly, to pick out a flag that is extended in the breeze than the flagstick itself.

PinSeeker mode

PinSeeker mode is meant to make life easy for the user in those situations where the target has other objects close behind it, like a flagstick with trees behind it (note that despite its name, PinSeeker mode can actually be used to determine distances to targets other than a flagstick). PinSeeker mode is designed to identify when there are multiple objects being picked up within the crosshairs and to ignore the background targets even though they may be larger and have stronger signal strength. The Tour V2 displays a small icon of a flagstick in the lower left of the display when the user engages PinSeeker mode. Once the device has located the closest of the targets in the area of the aiming circle, it will display a circle around the flagstick icon and show the distance to the closest object. In most cases, this means that the Tour V2 has properly “locked on” to the pin and is properly ignoring the trees behind it.

While it sounds like the perfect solution to targeting flagsticks, PinSeeker mode isn’t flawless. It is possible for the Tour V2 to completely “miss” the desired target and lock on to an object in the background while still displaying a circle surrounding the flagstick icon, particularly at long distances. Likewise, it may display the correct yardage while not displaying the circle. If there is any doubt, users will likely want to fire multiple times if there is any question of the correct yardage.

For more details, check out the Critical Golf comparison of laser rangefinder features .

OBTAINING DISTANCE READINGS

Bushnell claims that under optimal conditions, the Tour V2 is accurate at up to 300/700/1,000 yards for flagsticks, trees and reflective objects, respectively.

Ease of Locking on a Target:

  • At 150 yards and less, the Tour V2 obtained distances quickly, as did all of its competitors
  • Beginning at about 200 yards, we would experience instances in which the Tour V2 would lock in on trees in the background instead of the flagstick – this is rare at 200 yards, but increases at greater distances
  • At 225 yards, it becomes difficult to use PinSeeker mode, and there starts to be just a slight delay as the device locks in on the correct distance
  • At 250 yards, we found it difficult to obtain readings to a flagstick with the Tour V2, and this is where other devices such as the Leupold GX-I started to pull ahead.
  • At distances beyond 275 yards, we found it difficult if not impossible to obtain flagstick readings under challenging conditions (dark flags with trees immediately behind the green)

Speed Test:

The Bushnell Tour V2 was not particularly quick in our speed test for taking distance readings from multiple targets.

  • Panning Mode: When we tested the Tour V2 in Automatic Scan mode against other devices in their “panning” modes, the Tour V2 finished in the group at the back of the pack.
  • Pin-Locating Mode: When we tested the Tour V2 in PinSeeker mode against other devices in their “pin-locating” modes (and particularly against the Callaway LR1200 and Leupold GX-I ), the Tour V2 again lagged the field.
  • Using Both Modes: When we tested utilizing both modes together (which included pushing the buttons to cycle between modes), the Tour V2 performed at about the median among the devices tested with multiple modes.

For more details, check out the Critical Golf comparison for Ease of Obtaining Distance Readings .

The Bushnell Tour V2 comes at a reasonable $349.99, which makes it one of the least expensive laser rangefinders in its class (i.e. those that do not provide slope-adjusted distances).

While the Tour V2 is the least expensive of the Bushnell devices in our test, and has an excellent 2-year warranty, its middle-of-the-road performance drove down our value rating. It’s like dinner at the Cheesecake Factory – the food is pretty good, but not truly exceptional. The portions are ginormous. But in the end, you still paid a lot for a single meal, which always leaves you with the sneaking suspicion that you probably could have gotten a much better value elsewhere.

Those appreciating the compact size and reasonable price of the Bushnell Tour V2 will likely stack it up against the Leupold GX-I . The difference-maker may be how much you value the Bushnell brand name.

Bushnell Tour V2 Rangefinder Review

What we say...

Another Bushnell device, which reflects their standing in the market. The V2 also delivers good performance, including the standard point and click system. For less than £250 this really is a good unit. Steve said it felt nice in the hand, and Richard said the button was responsive. But what let it down slightly was the V2 grey display, which makes it harder to see the numbers than on the other Bushnell models, which are red.

Steve also felt it was quite light, and in windy conditions he found it harder to keep it steady, especially when he was focusing on something as small as a flag. If you want a rangefinder , but don’t want to spend £400, this is a sound choice.

Ratings (out of 5)

Ease of use: 3.6 Styling: 3.8 Value: 4.1

Bushnell’s lighter and more compact device still retains many of the features of the Pro 1600, including pinseeker, scan and rain modes but it comes in at about half the weight to leave you less loaded down. It is rainproof rather than being fully waterproof and features five-times magnification. Like the Pro 1600 there is also a separate device available with slope mode if you are not planning on using it in competition. Like most premium rangefinders it comes with a handy carry case that clips on to your bag.

An Official MyGolfSpy.com Review

http://www.bushnellgolf.com/laser/tourv2_se_patriot.cfm

Hello Pinseeker, My Old Friend…

As some of you are aware, the Tour V2 with slope laser rangefinder is the third Bushnell laser rangefinder that I have reviewed this year (Pro 1600 HERE and Hybrid HERE ). What is interesting about doing the multiple product reviews from the same manufacturer is that by reviewing nearly the entire line of laser rangefinder offerings, I feel like I have a good handle on the features are common to all of the Bushnell units. Thankfully, those common features are excellent.

This time around, I am taking the Tour V2 , Slope Edition, laser rangefinder through its paces. This rangefinder came to me as a component of the 2011 Bushnell Patriot pack. The Patriot pack includes a towel and a laser-covering skin with the laser, thus increasing the value to the consumer. However, that is not the real greatness of the Patriot Pack promotion. The real benefit comes from Bushnell donating a portion of the sales from the Patriot Pack to Folds of Honor Foundation. This is not an insignificant amount either. In 2010, Bushnell donated $90,000. So you get some extra good stuff in your Patriot Pack, but the real “good stuff” is happening far away from you, but your purchase helped make it happen. It's the feel-good rangefinder.

IMG_2612.jpg

But is the Tour V2 worth buying in the first place?

Cosmetics and Feel (20 Points)

One of the common comments that I read after my review of the Bushnell Hybrid rangefinder was that it looked too big and bulky. Playing with the hybrid, it didn't feel bulky, it just felt like someone had sandwiched a GPS and a laser together. After using the Tour V2 , I think that I now understand where the bulky comments were coming from. I think that it is safe to say that golfers are more familiar with the Tour V2 than they are the Hybrid. The V2 has been in the marketplace longer, and has definitely been purchased by more golfers. This unit is sleek and compact. It fits the hand very well, with the “action” button right where it should be.

If one were accustomed to using the V2 , then the Hybrid would come across a being huge. I think it would be like driving a Ford Escort for a year and then switching to a Ford Explorer. The Explorer would feel massive, until one became accustomed to driving it. I am not trying to defend the Hybrid, I am just saying that I now see where some of the comments may have come from.

IMG_2617.jpg

Aesthetically, I definitely am a fan of the silver and black color scheme. It is all business, but still looks good. The only thing that I am not real sure about is the location of the “Mode” button on the side of the unit. The majority of other similar units place this button on the top of the unit in a place where it is nearly impossible to press it by accident. Although the 3D “B” button looks very cool incorporated into the Bushnell logo, I did find myself accidentally pressing it all of the time. Not a huge design flaw, but something that I did find to be a touch irritating.

IMG_2627.jpg

Although it really is not something I look for in a laser, the Tour V2 also has an interesting battery cover design that makes it very easy to change the battery.

Cosmetics and Feel Score: 18/20 Points

So as I pulled out the Tour V2 for some on course lasing, what became immediately apparent to me was that I was using a Bushnell laser rangefinder. Again, I now definitely will have some expectations when I see a laser with the Bushnell name on it. The optics are crystal clear.

IMG_2622.jpg

The Pinseeker technology does an excellent job of picking out the flag even with other objects in the background. Sometimes it does grab a tree instead, but you should be able to know that a reading is off, and re-measure.

Ease of Use

The Bushnell Tour V2 is essentially a single button unit. The mode button on the side can switch the measured units from meters to yards, but the single button on top controls everything else.

IMG_2625.jpg

One thing that you must become accustomed to is that you will need to hold down the button while measuring to activate both the Pinseeker and slope features. Not a huge deal, but it does take a few seconds longer to get these readings compared to getting the initial distance measurement. For comparison, the Callaway iQ provides distance and slope corrected distance readings simultaneously (review HERE).

On the Course

The Tour V2 is fast to power-up and take the initial distance reading, but as I just mentioned, getting the Pinseeker symbol and the slope reading will take a few seconds longer. No so long that your playing partners will be waiting for you, but just a bit longer than the standard linear measurement.

The lenses in the V2 magnify at 5x power, compared to the 7x in the much larger 1600 unit. Never once did I wish it had more magnification. If the pin is too small for you to measure, you are probably too far away to need a measurement…

Outside of accidentally pressing the mode button and the slight lag before getting slope readings, I really have no complaints. The only thing that I really was not a fan of was the red skin that came as a part of the Patriot Pack.

IMG_2613.jpg

It seemed to me like the skin covered up all of the great ergonomic features of the un-skinned unit. You could still access all of the buttons and take distance readings, but it just had a negative effect on the feel for me.

IMG_2630.jpg

Your mileage may vary, of course, but I am not a fan. Realistically though, the inclusion of the skin and the towel is more of a symbol of the donation that Bushnell makes to the Folds of Honor Foundation. I do wish that they had continued to include the stars and stripes skin as opposed to the plain red.

The Tour V2 also comes with the great zippered/magnetic closure case that came with the Hybrid.

IMG_2614.jpg

More and more, I appreciate the design of this case. The magnet is definitely strong enough to keep the V2 securely inside as you walk the course. The zipper makes sure that you can secure the unit as you head to the parking lot and home. I also found zipping the unit helpful when playing cart golf with an erratic chauffeur.

Performance Score: 57/60

Value (20 Points)

The MSPR of the Bushnell V2 with Slope Patriot Pack is $399. The non-slope Patriot Pack can be had for $299. This is a standard price for a unit with these features and I think represents an accurate value to price relationship. Plus, some of the money is going to a great foundation. I did find that you can order one from Amazon.com with free Super Saving shipping right now for $369.99 ( LINK ). They also have the Callaway iQ laser on sale for $345 with free Super Saver shipping ( LINK ). Both are amazing deals at these prices.

Value Score (20/20)

Overall Score: 95/100

Of the Bushnell lasers that I have reviewed this year, the Tour V2 is definitely my favorite. I really liked the compact size and on course performance. Although I am still a fan of the Hybrid unit, I never once found myself wishing that I had the GPS measurements in addition to the laser reading. I think that any golfer would be very satisfied with the style and performance of the Tour V2 .

I just purchased a Bushnell V2 (without slope function) and can return it within 14 days for any reason. What are the best ways to test it out to see if it really works for me. After doing research these seem to be the best for the money. Got it for $225 at Best Buy. I took it out to the range I normally practice at this morning and go readings from the flags. I noticed an obviously odd reading from one flag with a house in the distance. I think it was reading the house. What are the tricks to getting accurate readings in that situation considering there are ften homes on/near the course?

Are you comparing a rangefinder to a GPS? If so, then any decent model rangefinder is more "worth it" than any GPS ever made. Easy answer. Or do you want to compare different rangefinders brands and models?

Just got a V2 with Slope as a gift. Looking forward to using it when I get back from vacation. I have a GPS and just have too many times when I listen to it - hit a ball perfect - and wonder why? why? why? Looking forward to seeing if the issue was my GPS or me.

I have a Callaway Upro and recently got the Bushnell V2 laser. I haven't used the Upro since I got the V2. The Upro appeared accurate but the V2 gives actual yardages to the pin and that is more helpful for me. On larger greens (or strange shaped greens) the front, middle, back yardages wasn't accurate enough. Plus sometimes you don't know if the flag is front, middle or back but if using the laser it doesn't matter.

Sometimes I'll just squat down to get under it, shoot the front of the green, the flagstick not the flag, just different things. You just have to kind of trial and error it until you get it right.

Thanks! I guess I need a steadier hand. ;-) Fortunately my home course has GPS on every cart that is really well done graphically. I have to use it often there as there are quite a few blind shots. This is where GPS has the advantage over rangefinders. It's also great as it shows where other carts are and that's really needed with blind shots!

I have had a V2 for a while and recently bought the Upro MX. I think they work great together. I find myself using the MX now more than anything but using the V2 inside 125 yards or so. The GPS is great for showing me a preview of the upcoming hole, showing me trouble in front of the green on blind shots and giving me a general idea of how the hole is going to play. But the V2 is indispensible for my wedge game. But the V2 is a great rangefinder, no doubt. I like it more than the 1500/1600 series because its much smaller.

I use the pro 1600 with slope edition and loves it apart from the size and weight of it. It has pin seeker that ignores background objects when u are lasering on the pin. Works well for me so far. Did try the Leupold - not a fan at all.

V2 is great. Obviously the only drawback to a rangefinder is you need line of sight. Thought it was a battery eater. I now take the battery out between rounds and that helps. I also found a box of batteries on ebay that was a big saver.

Leupold GX-3 Tried EVERY top LRF and this one was just wonderful! Only advantage I see that Bushnell has is the warranty and wonderful marketing.

The optics seem better to me ( I think magnification might be higher?). Also there is a lot on these forums about the Bushnell battery door popping open easily and people having to tape them shut. The Leupold is smaller and lighter, fits perfectly into my valuables pocket on my bag. Main complaint with the Leupold is htat it may be too small/light if you don't have a steady hand for the wind. This is where people prefer the 1600 model. Other than that they're pretty similar, both the V2 and GX-3 have pin finder technology. Stay away from the Callaway ones, my friend has one and everything looks blurry cause the optics aren't as good as the other ones. Use the search function, there are tons of threads comparing all of the options.

To me for the extra $$ I get 1x more mag, an aluminum block casing, OLED readings, and a more comfortable fit in my hand. This was a hard decision, and I had to actually try EVERY top RF, more than once (bc I'm really OCD about decision making) when I tried the gx3, I went through all the bushnells, the callaways, and the GX1, then tried the gx3 and knew without a doubt that this was the unit for me.

arent luepolds illegal for tournament play cause they have slope?

To me, my V2 is the most important piece of equipment I have. It is indispensable for finding exact yardages to flags, trees through a dogleg, fairway/green bunker lips etc. As mentioned before it is critical to the wedge game. It's gotten to the point the V2 is a part of my pre-shot routine.

I haven't tried other brands of laser but the V2 does everything I need. My iron game is definately better after using the V2 for about one month. Using the old method of front/center/back color coded flags and pacing off from sprinkler heads seems vastly outdated now.

Bushnell Tour V2 Slope Edition Rangefinder

Bushnell tour v2 slope laser rangefinder review.

It is also one of the most compact rangefinders available. The unit is known for its PinSeeker technology that helps distinguish targets from other reflective objects in the background. Use this Bushnell Tour V2 Slope review as a basis from which you can compare rangefinders featuring slope compensation.

  • Comfort:  The V2 Slope Edition has a compact size like that of the standard model and is also easy to grip.
  • Affordable:  This model offers all of the same features as the Standard Edition only with the addition of slope compensation, thus its price tag of under $400 seems reasonable.
  • Easy to Use:  The V2 Slope is about as simple to use as its related model.
  • Short Battery Life:  Like the standard model, users complain about the short life of the battery. Because it is not rechargeable like some on other models, it will need to be replaced throughout the season.
  • Difficulty Holding Steady:  Also like the standard edition, many users report trouble holding the device steady well enough to trigger it to provide the range.

Ease of Use

The Tour V2 is average in size and shape and feels comfortable in the hand. It also features an easy gripping surface. The unit can be held with one or two hands, with holding with one and operating with the other the easiest method. The display is simple to read, with the distance shown directly below the aiming circle.

The black LCD screen is conveniently positioned on the bottom of the viewfinder so it can contrast against the background of the green, making it easier to read. There are two buttons on the device, one for powering on and firing the laser and the other for engaging scanning or PinSeeker modes.

Automatic scan mode allows the player to pan across a course and receive distance information for a number of targets within its view. This mode may prove to be more difficult to use with other objects close in the background. PinSeeker mode helps distinguish targets from reflective objects nearby.

It does this by ignoring readings from background objects even when they are “stronger” than the target in the foreground. The slope feature reads the angle of a shot and adjusts the distance and club length to accommodate. While extremely helpful, this feature prevents the device from being suitable for use in tournaments.

Obtaining Readings

Under prime conditions the device is supposed to read up to 300 yards for flagsticks and 1,000 yards for the most reflective objects. At less than 150 yards the device reads distances quickly and accurately. At longer distances it is more likely to lock on to objects in the background such as trees. At distances higher than 200 it becomes more difficult to use PinSeeker mode as the device takes longer to acquire targets.

At around $400, the Bushnell Tour V2 Slope model can be considered reasonably priced considering its standard features of scanning and PinSeeker modes along with its slope compensation feature. The only drawback is the need for better performance at slightly longer distances.

Beautiful  City bridge  leading to  Gorky Park  has fantastic views of  Christ the Savior   Cathedral and the Moskva River. Exploring Moscow attractions by riding a bike along the riverside pathways can be a unique adventure!

Historic City Centre

Night clubs and bars

Finish your night adventure with a drink in the nightlife hotspot Solyanka, or Patriarch bridge leading to Strelka with lots of stunning views on the way!

From our tour. Impressions of our American tourist:

We walked over the bridge where I got a better photo of the Kremlin to enter metro station to travel the one stop back to the Cathedral of Christ the Saviour. This cathedral has a fascinating story.  It is Moscow's largest Orthodox cathedral.  It was built between 1839-1883 as a memorial to those who fell fighting Napoleon's army in the War of 1812.

At its entry, the marble walls are covered with inscribed names of those whose lives were lost.  For more than a century, it was the city's largest single structure, dominating the city skyline.  In 1931, a few seconds demolished what had taken 50 years to build, following Stalin's orders.

The marble from the church and other valued materials and objects were stripped and removed to be used elsewhere, such as for creating art in the Metro stations.  During Khrushchev's time, one of the world's largest outdoor swimming pools was built.

In recent years, the decision was made to rebuild the Cathedral; this time it took only 5 years at a cost of $150 million.  While the city provided most of the funding, when the decision to rebuild was announced, the rubles poured in from the general population.  Once again, photos were not allowed, but my friend bought a booklet, and she kindly let me use it so you can see its elaborate interior.

What you probably DO know about this cathedral is that the Russian punk band Pussy Riot performed a protest concert inside the church in 2012, resulting in their arrest and jail time for 3 of its members.

After my friend selected her icon from the gift shop, it was time to bid our favorite Muscovite guide farewell. Our Moscow guide has restored my faith in her generation.  So wise and compassionate she is.  She was extremely perceptive about our preferences and needs.

As my friend noted to me last night after we got back to our room, there wasn't a problem our guide didn't solve with calm and timely effectiveness.  After she presented both of us with gifts tied with satin ribbon, she walked us across the plaza in front of the cathedral to our waiting cab.  She told my friend that she reminded her of her own "Baba" and that she would send my friend a picture of her to show the resemblance.

Even with this affection on her part toward my friend, I know our guide would have delivered the same excellent guide service to us, topped with abundant grace and sensitivity.  These characteristics are a part of her inner soul.  Our positive regard of Moscow is because of our guide.
