Cat Stevens Opens Brief 2023 Tour

In September 2022, when he revealed a pair of October 2022 shows in Turkey, Cat Stevens wrote they “would lead to more international touring in 2023.” On March 3, he announced that he’ll play at the 2023 Glastonbury Festival in the coveted Legend’s slot on June 25. And in late March, he revealed four more concerts in Europe, as well as news of a new studio album, King of a Land . The first took place on Monday, June 12, in Berlin, Germany, with a 23-song set that featured such classic rock favorites as “Peace Train,” “Wild World,” and “Moonshadow,” as well as several from the new album.

The two 2022 shows, in Istanbul and Ankara, represented the legend’s first full length concerts in five years. (Profits went towards supporting his Peace Train charity .) The musician, who is also known as Yusuf Islam, or Yusuf/Cat Stevens , hasn’t toured since his 50th Anniversary tour of 2016-2017. [He performed at public benefit concerts twice in the interim: once in Christchurch, New Zealand in 2019 and again in 2020 in London.] In 2017, he did a series of 18 concerts in South Africa, Australia and New Zealand. He began that tour in 2016 with concerts in Canada, the U.S. and U.K.

In recent years, many of his acclaimed studio albums got well-received expanded editions via UMe. On Feb. 22, Stevens released a cover of “Here Comes the Sun” in honor of George Harrison’s 80th birthday. That same day, he announced a new partnership with Dark Horse Records, the boutique record label founded by George Harrison and operated today by his son Dhani and David Zonshine. The new studio album,  King of a Land , arrives on June 16.

We Desperately Need This Extremely Camp Glastonbury Rumour To Be True

While some fans might still be recuperating from this year’s Glastonbury , reports are already flying around about who’ll be performing on the Pyramid Stage in 2025.

And folks, this latest rumour is a good ’un.

The Sun has reported that music icon Cher has begun “meaningful discussions” with Glastonbury organisers about performing in the coveted Sunday afternoon “Legends” slot last year.

Citing an undisclosed “music insider”, the tabloid claimed that the If I Could Turn Back Time singer is eyeing a string of UK shows next year to coincide with her 60th year of making music, and an appearance at Worthy Farm could well be among them.

And needless to say, fans are excited at the prospect (and, to be frank, so are we)...

Cher confirmed in December last year that she was working on a new album in 2024, which she hoped to take on tour.

She’s also set to release her first autobiography, titled The Memoir Part One, later this year.

Recent “Legends” slot performers have included Diana Ross, Cat Stevens, Kylie Minogue and this year’s act, Shania Twain.

Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis has already teased that next year’s event will be an exciting one , particularly as the festival is taking a year off in 2026.

“The festival before a fallow year is always a fun one to plan because you almost have to fit two years into one,” she revealed in June. “We’re already in talks with some acts for it. It’s exciting.”

Meanwhile, one group has already ruled itself out of performing at Glasto in 2025 , despite widespread rumours to the contrary.

Cher is reportedly “in talks” to take on the legends slot at the 2025 edition of Glastonbury .

The slot has become one of the most prestigious slots of the Worthy Farm event over the years and sees one veteran artist take to the Pyramid stage late on the Sunday afternoon to break out a career-spanning set of their biggest hits.

Shania Twain took on the slot at this year’s edition , while Yusuf/Cat Stevens played in 2023. Performers previous to that include Diana Ross , Barry Gibb , Dolly Parton , Johnny Cash , Led Zeppelin ’s Jimmy Page and Robert Plant and Kylie Minogue .

For Minogue, the set at the 2019 festival became the most-watched moment of that year’s event (via Radio X ).

Now, planning has already commenced for next year’s instalment – the last before Glasto takes a year off to allow the farmland to recover – and speculation has arisen that Cher could be the next to take on the slot.

According to a report by The Sun , the ‘Believe’ hitmaker is said to be in “meaningful talks” with the event organisers and is already planning to fit the festival around some plans for some headline shows in the UK.

“Cher is practically the legend of all pop music legends. She would be incredible,” a source told the outlet. “It’s been a long time coming but she is finally in meaningful talks with Glastonbury about playing the legend’s slot.

“Everything is very much in the planning stages but Cher is hoping to play a handful of shows in the UK next year and Glastonbury could be one of them. The idea of a full-scale tour just doesn’t interest her anymore.”

MailOnline reported that it had contacted a representative for Cher for comment on the rumours, however there has not yet been an official comment from the singer’s team.

While we’re far from having anything confirmed regarding the Glasto 2025 line-up, the speculation around Cher taking on the coveted legends slot does come on the heels of previous comments she has made about the idea.

Last year, she took part in an interview with Radio 2 and revealed that she would “like to” play at the festival site .

Similarly, before the bill was shared for 2024’s festival, she was one of the main names speculated to appear at the Worthy Farm site. Others thrown into the mix were Sheryl Crow , Stevie Nicks , Shania Twain – who took on the role – and Annie Lennox .

Throughout her career, she has shared 27 studio albums, 11 compilation albums, two soundtrack albums, and three live albums.

Since this year’s festival wrapped up, rumours have already begun swirling about who the headliners could be for 2025 , Taylor Swift , Green Day , Olivia Rodrigo and more making the list.

In more recent times though, she has been working on a two-part memoir which will reveal the “intimate” details of her life .
