Every thing was picture perfect. From reception to room and beyond. Delightful location and culinary menu. courteous staff. I have sated in almost all the top hotels in Chandigarh. This one takes the cake and ran it. Not only do I recommend this pick for a comfortable stay but will in future consider this as my abode. A champion of a hotel.

Stayed in the hotel for 2 days in November 2017. The hotel is at Zirakpur, and not inside Chandigarh but closer to airport. The hotel has good facilities but the front desk and staff need significant training to handle guests. Though I called in from the airport and told them to keep my room ready, they took significant time and made us wait. After that based on my request they changed the floor as the floor they allotted is noisy. The wifi does not work and they have a strange formula of 1 device only for wifi, which also is not effective. Had a problem with the water heater also, got it rectified after some shouting. The room is nicely furnished and the washroom is also kept nice. The restaurant at ground floor is good and the service there is impeccable. Ola is available from the hotel to Chandigarh and can reach any part in half an hour. After some initial issues I enjoyed the stay . The gym is not functional and there is no swimming pool etc. but the hotel is good.

One caveat, the Agoda location indicates the Shimla-Chandigarh highway while the hotel is actually some distance away in the industrial commercial area. This should be adjusted as our Indian driver spent at least half an hour trying to find the location but the hotel itself is worth spending the effort to find.

The rooms were awful dark and it smelled which forced me to be out of the room most of the time . The breakfast choice were not good to.. Was hungry so ordered food to eat next day got upset stomach. Better to pay a bit extra and pay for better hotel. Staff were very friendly and helpful so would give 5 stars for staff only..

This property is a pleasure station for family specially if you are with young kids. They got the best of shakes and cakes in the hotel, food quality is excellent, ambiance is awesome. Above all staff are brilliant and excellent 👍

Having already spent a lot staying in Chandigarh hotel, this was a great surprise. Rooms, location, cleanliness etc. were excellent. I only have one minor suggestion to make it the perfect hotel: Exhaust fan in the bathroom. Food was good too.

Overall a bad experience. We arrived and were made to wait 45mins to check in because one person did not have ID with them. Then got to the rooms and one room stank of smoke. We requested to change this room but they could not find another double room so we were made to sleep in separate beds. I then got a call saying that I needed to go reception where I was told the booking was for single occupancy rooms and we would have to pay a further 1500rupees plus taxes per room to be checked in. This would have made the rooms 50% more expensive than the price we paid. Added to the fact that on the Internet where I made the booking I requested it for 6 adults this was upsetting. They were clearly trying to extort money from us as they had seen an opportunity; something that is quite common for foreigners in India! I then had to call Agoda myself using my mobile which probably cost me a further 1000rupees (£10) to rectify the situation and to agoda's credit they sorted it out for me for their rate of 1500 rupees total, which is what I would have paid if there was an option to book double occupancy on the website. I went back to my room to get ready for the wedding reception that we were already late for because of the problems to get ready and get a further call from the manager saying that he had spoken to his superiors and they said that the fee agreed by Agkda would not suffice and I would have to pay the full fee he quoted me earlier. I told him to take this up with Agoda as I had made the booking with them and he had already made me 2 hours late for a wedding reception and he argued and then eventually agreed with me. I would never stay here again it was a terrible experience!!! I only stayed here due to the rating and certainly disagree with it!!

Although I stayed only for 1 Day at this Hotel, but the stay was very nice. Loved the Ambiance of the Hotel. The Hotel Rooms were very spacious, clean & beautiful. The Services of the staff was also good. Overall I enjoyed my stayed to the fullest at Velvet Clarks! Will definitely visit next time too!!

Decent hotel- with pleasant staff and prompt service- but lack of restaurant, bar pegs this hotel back. Agoda gives it a 4 star rating.. though it falls more under the 3 star boutique category. Rooms are tastefully decorated- though- improvements are possible in the bath amenities.

The room was quite large, with high ceilings and a big bathroom with 24 hour hot water. This is a good option if you want to save some money during your stay in Chandigarh.

Certainly better than our previous hotel in Chandigarh. We were actually pleasantly surprised with the comfort and cleanliness of this hotel. We would stay here again when we are next in Chandigarh.

We were greeted by the manager who was very accomodating of our needs and always at our service. The front office staff were very professional and always greeted us with a smile. Room service is highly recommended! The hotel benefits from its central location to everything else in Chandigarh. Unlike some of the other properties in Chandigarh, the hotel is less than a year old and enjoys brand new amenities and modern furnishings. On the downside, the linen wasn't quite up to standard and often had a few stains even after our room had been serviced. We also has many problems with our key card which automatically locked us out of our room on numerous occasions when we tried re-entering our room after a day out.

The main advantage of this hotel is its location in Sector 17 which is the "downtown" of Chandigarh. Besides that the room itself was fine, clean and big with high ceilings, large bathroom and a flat screen TV. There is not much noise from the market area. The wireless was not great but better than nothing. The staff were friendly enough. Overall not a bad deal.

Cheap places to stay in Chandigarh

This is a basic hotel - the room didn't have a window to the outside and through some vent smoke blew into the room. The internet was fast and the staff was helpful - even if there were some communication challenges. Not a bad place for one night passing through Chandigarh.

I specifically booked this hotel because the listing shows it as being in Sector 17, a prime location for much of the best sights in the city. After traveling over 10 hours by bus, I arrived at nearly midnight. The desk man told me I had no reservation. When I assured him I did and showed my confirmation, he said it was for their 'sister hotel' all the way back in the 42nd Sector. I showed him the Agoda listing, proof that the hotel was advertised and labeled as being in Sector 17 and at our current location. He didn't care nor offered an apology or sympathy. Instead he insisted it was not their fault and continued to defend. He offered me the "only" room he had, which was a filthy hole with the bathroom down the hall, for over 1,000 more rupees per night. When I scoffed at that he tried to get me into a rickshaw to drive me 15-20 minutes away to the other hotel. I asked for the manager, who came some time thereafter. He proceeded to tell me all rooms were booked and I couldn't stay there. Having been exhausted from traveling, I was doing my best, however, my patience and platitude were rather low. I informed him of the room I was just shown by the desk man and he insisted they were full and kept trying to push me out the door. At that point it was after 1am and I had no patience, tolerance, or tact left. I demanded the crap room at a discounted price, the manager sheepishly acquiesced, and I dropped my bags. The sheets were stained and covered in hairs. I had to demand clean sheets and pillow cases. Then the manager wanted my passport and said he'd return it in the morning so he could make copies. I remarked that it doesn't take all night to make a photo copy, refused, and took it from him. If nothing else, all they had to do was be nice. Sh*t happens, I get it. The hotel is real value for money. The staff is very friendly and helpful. Room is clean with fair quality WiFi. Only thing I didn’t like is that there is no exhaust fan in the toilets and you know what happens when there is no exhaust fan in the toilet. Another things is that the hotel is on the 2 floor and there is no lift. Trouble carrying luggage.

Never seen such a position. So everything not as per mentioned on website. The other staff were fine. B/fast is limited serving.

The neatness of the rooms could improve. There were too many stairs to climb. It was not too far from the main tourist sites.

Had to change room because it was so dirty and smelly went to another room and it was the same, the sheets had stains and I had to request for a change of everything. Bathroom not well maintained and complimentary bottled water was opened bottle with tap water.

We booked online, based on the reviews which said it was new clean, good staff etc. When we got there, we were offered a room beside the desk, up an impossibly step stairway, noisy, smelly and not acceptable. The utterly bizarre basis of offering no refund of the booking whether for one day or in our case for the whole 4 days, is totally unacceptable by any standards. The management eventually turned (the alleged GM) up and attempted to offer another hotel further away in sector 35, which again wasn't acceptable. All in all we would and could not recommend this hotel in any way - appalling place.

Rooms were not at all how it looked in d pics. It’s a shoplot concept. Need to walk up stairs. Not good for old ppl at all n wt lotsa luggage traveller. It’s old building n nothing is new here including d linens n air con. Very disappointed.

This city is not easy to reach (5 hours by train/bus if you do not book the express train on time, long queues to purchase bus tickets during the week-ends).

However, for those who are found of modern architecture and urban planning, it is an interesting showcase of a potential 'smart city'. However, there is a long way to go before achieving such a goal. The plan of Le Corbusier has not been applied in accordance with the original project. Therefore, the city is a nightmare for pedestrians (endless roads, dangerous crossings, difficulty to find directions...) and it is not safe for cyclists (cycling paths interrupted in many places). Yet this city is increadibly green and well maintained (with apparently a strong support from the central state). Regulations are stringent, you will not find rubish and cows as in other Indian cities. As a result, property prices are very high, and only civil servants (who enjoy representational housing) and wealthy households can afford to live there.

Clean and orderly with wide avenues and green spaces. You might forget you are in India. City was built completely from scratch in the 1950's.

Unlike older large cities such as Jaipur and Delhi, shopping in the 3-4 open markets is leisurely and pleasant with no touts and aggressive shop owners jumping out at you as you walk by and chasing you down the sidewalks.

The Nek Chand Rock Garden was amazing and is well worth a visit. I found out about it on the net and travelled all the way from Australia to see it.

The sculptures and installations are all made from recycled materials and the grounds are very clean and tidy and well maintained. The entry price is very reasonable. Just be careful to duck your head going under some of the entrances - they are quite low in places. All in all a magical place and I am so glad I made the effort.

Chandigarh is not really a tourist place. Fewer people speak English than in other places I have visited, such as Jaipur, Jodphur.

However, you don't get bothered so much as a tourist. It feels safe. There are nice parks, full of flowers and trees. It's the nearest I have seen to a European city in India. There is an animal welfare shelter you can contact if you see animals in distress.
