At a distance of 1 km from Madikeri Bus Station, Madikeri Fort is a historical fort situated in the heart of Madikeri town in Coorg district of Karnataka. Still preserving its old charm, Madikeri Fort is one of the most famous tourist attractions in Coorg. Madikeri Fort was first built by Mudduraja, the then king of Coorg, in the last quarter of the 17th century AD. The king had also constructed a mud palace inside the fort premises. The fort was built as a mud structure and was rebuilt in stone by Tipu Sultan in 1781 AD and named the site as Jaffarabad. In 1790 AD, Dodda Veerarajendra took control of the fort. The fort faced further changes and renovations during the period 1812 - 1814 AD when it came under the rule of Lingarajendra Wodeyar II. In 1834 AD the fort was captured by the British. At a distance of 1.5 km from Madikeri Bus Station, Raja's Seat is a popular viewpoint towards the south of Madikeri Fort in the picturesque hill town of Madikeri , Coorg. About Dubare Elephant Camp

History of dubare elephant camp, 2 chiklihole dam.

At a distance of 7 km from Dubare, 15 km from Kushalnagar and 24 km from Madikeri, Chiklihole dam is a small reservoir located near the town of Nanjarayapattana. It is one of the popular places to visit in Coorg. The Chiklihole Reservoir is built across the river Chiklihole flowing through the Cauvery basin of Karnataka. It was built in the year 1985 for the purpose of irrigating the nearby villages. The reservoir is used to fulfill the water demands of 865 hectares of land. With a length of 464.8 m and a height of 25.3 meters, the dam has a gross storage capacity of 5.097 mcm. The unique shape of the dam in itself is a great attraction for visitors. The dam has a semi-circular structure without any crest gates. With the increase in inflow, the water overflows like foam on a curved structure and offers a breathtaking sight to visitors. The area around Chiklihole reservoir is bestowed with lush greenery and rich fauna and flora of the forest around creating a pleasing setting .....

3 Harangi Dam

At a distance of 34 Kms from Madikeri & 10 Kms from Kushalnagar, Harangi Dam is built against a small stream, a tributary of river Cauvery at Hadgur village. The dam is 846 meters long with a height of 47 meters. The dam attracts large crowd during the monsoon season when the gates are opened and the water is released. It is one of the popular sightseeing places in Coorg . The backwaters are spread across several acres with small islands in the middle and thick forest on the banks. There is a small garden near the dam and a stone statue of Goddess Cauvery. Just around the reservoir there is Chamundeshwari Temple dedicated to Lord Shiva & Goddess Parvathi. August to October is the best time to visit the dam. Timings: 8 AM to 6 PM.

• 1 . Tibetian Monastery / Golden Temple Namdroling Monastery, also known as the Golden Temple is a massive monastery built in 1963. The monastery is the largest teaching centre of Tibetan Buddhism studies in India and it also houses educational institutions, a hospital and residential blocks for monks. The Golden Temple also displays some fantastic artworks through its murals, wall paintings and mesmerising golden statues of Buddhist gurus. The prayer rituals of the monastery are one of its kind and must not be missed!
• 2. Nisargadhama Forest Park Nisargadhama Forest Park is another tourist spot that is only about 2 KM from the Golden Temple. Surrounded by the Kaveri river, the park serves as a popular picnic spot. You will be charmed by the hanging bridges, sandalwood trees and bamboo groves in the area. The temples are the most crowded in the month of October and especially on Sankramana day. The must visit spot here is tirtha kundike which is a small stream of religious importance.
• 2. Triveni Sangam Triveni Sangam is the merging spot of Kaveri, Kannike and Sujyoti rivers. This is a spot of epic scenic beauty and religious value. Don’t forget to take a quick dip before departing from the Sangam.
• 3. Sri Bhagandeshwara Temple Sri Bhagandeshwara temple is located close to Triveni Sangam. The temple is adorned with idols of Lord Bhagandeshwara, Ganesha, Narayana and Subramanya.
• 4. Raja Seat Raja's Seat is a beautiful garden in Madikeri. Tourists visit the garden to see the sunset, flower plants and musical fountains. The picturesque location also makes for a great picnic spot.
• 5. Abbey Falls Abbey Falls is a spectacular waterfall located at a height of 70 feet. The waterfall is located amidst the lush greenery of coffee and spice plantations. You’ll have to walk 200 steps amidst this greenery to reach the falls, and regardless to say, it’ll be a memorable stroll!
• 6. Madikeri Fort Madikeri Fort was built in the latter half of the 17th century. Although there’s not much to see in the fort anymore, tourists still visit to see the museum, Mahatma Gandhi Public Library and the Kote Maha Ganapathi temple.
• 7. Shopping @ Coorg You must not leave Coorg without taking home some spices, coffee, sandalwood and essential oils. Most local stores sell them and they promise to be of good quality.
