What Are The Kinds Of San Diego Zoo Memberships Available?

The San Diego Zoo has 11 different types of membership options currently available.

These range from the Wildlife Explorer membership which is only for children between the ages of 3-17 all the way up to the $10,000 President's Ambassador membership.

Each type of San Diego Zoo membership has different perks, benefits and pricing which can vary greatly depending on which membership you purchase.

San Diego Zoo Entrance

On a very high level, San Diego Zoo membership is similar to annual passes at theme parks like Disneyland and Universal Studios which give you admission to the parks multiple times throughout the year.

We'll dive further into the benefits of each membership in the follow section!

San Diego Zoo Membership has various perks which can include unlimited admission to both the San Diego Zoo and San Diego Safari Park and discounts on food and merchandise.

These perks vary depending on which specific type of membership you purchase as illustrated in the chart below from the San Diego Wildlife Alliance:

San Diego Zoo Membership Benefits

As you can see, some of the more premium membership tiers have tons of perks outside of admission and discounts like special entrances, and even hours of the day in which the Zoo and Safari park are only open to members!

The Annual Membership Event and Member Appreciation Day are two events reserved only for the two most expensive membership types where the San Diego Wildlife Alliance goes all out to show their appreciation for these folks.

Not listed on this chart are the four "President" tier of membership which include their own extra special set of perks.

President Tier Membership Perks Include:

  • Exclusive opportunities to meet the president of the San Diego Zoo and other key partners
  • Guest privileges which allow you to bring up to two guests with you into the Zoo and Safari park
  • Exclusive event invitations not offered at other membership tiers
  • The full list of President Tier membership perks can be found here: Associate , Partner , Patron , Ambassador

Immediately!

After you purchase your San Diego Zoo membership wether it be online or in-person, you'll be able to take advantage of your perks right away.

If you purchased your membership online then head to a ticket booth or guest services area outside of the zoo's entrance to get your membership card printed.

Most San Diego Zoo Memberships are only partially tax deductible.

Each membership has a "fair market value" which you can provide to your accountant to determine how much money, if any, you can deduct from your taxes.

Please consult a tax advisor for guidance on anything related to tax deduction as Theme Park Center does not provide financial or tax advice!

Couple on Skyfari

Your San Diego Zoo membership number will be provided to you after purchasing your membership.

This number is your unique identifier tied to your membership so you can access your payment and billing information, renew your pass and reserve a spot at special events.

Your membership number will typically be provided to you in a confirmation email or be printed on your membership card.

Membership cards can be replaced for a small fee at either the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park.

Your membership number will remain the same, but your card will have a new barcode making your old card useless.

If you're lucky and employee may be able to print you a new membership card for free, but more often than not you should expect to pay for your membership card to be replaced.

Two Koalas in a Tree

Membership cards are typically received 2 or 3 weeks after you purchase your membership.

If you chose Green Delivery then you will not receive a membership card in the mail!

With Green Delivery you must physically pick up your membership card at the San Diego Zoo or Safari Park, so don't be alarmed if you never receive your membership card.

With prices starting as low as $85 for adults we find San Diego Zoo membership to absolutely be worth it.

With the price of a San Diego Zoo single day ticket being just $20 less than a membership which will allow you to visit the property multiple times, it makes sense to upgrade to our membership if you plan on coming back even for just one more day.

Lion at the San Diego Zoo

If you don't think you'll be returning to the San Diego Zoo at all for the rest of the year then it is likely a better decision to get a single day ticket, but we suggest really thinking through the membership option!

Between being able to visit the zoo again, as well as discounts on food and merchandise you may find that membership quickly paying for itself.

You may not expect to visit the San Diego Zoo multiple times, but having that membership card may encourage you to do so on a day when you just can't find anything else to do!

The more premium memberships, especially the President's Tier, are a more personal decision in which you need to evaluate how much you really value each of these perks.

Two hippos in the water

For some these perks may be worthless, while for others they may be priceless especially if you're hoping to attend some VIP events or meet other high profile donors to the zoo.

Overall, if you're local to Southern California or a neighboring state then there is definitely a lot of value to purchasing a San Diego Zoo membership.

If you live in another part of the country where you won't be visiting San Diego multiple times a year or planning any impromptu trips the Zoo or Safari Park then you may not find the same value.

1000-Lb. Sisters ' Amy Slaton Arrested at Zoo for Drug Possession, Child Endangerment: Police

Authorities responded to calls that a guest had allegedly been bitten by a camel at Tennessee Safari Park on Sept. 2

safari park and zoo membership

Reality star Amy Slaton is facing drug and child endangerment charges after being arrested at a Tennessee zoo.

On Monday, Sept. 2, the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department responded to calls of a guest reportedly being bitten by a camel at Tennessee Safari Park in Alamo, officials confirmed in a Facebook post .

"Upon arrival, deputies were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest's vehicle," the post read,

Slaton — who has starred on TLC's 1000-Lb. Sisters since its premiere in Jan. 2020 — and Brian Scott Lovvorn were arrested and are facing charges of illegal possession of schedule I, illegal possession of schedule IV and two counts of child endangerment, per the post.

Crockett County Sheriff's Department/Facebook

Lovvorn, who was in the same vehicle as Slaton, is facing the same charges, and both of them have been booked into the Crockett County Jail.

The authorities have not identified who was bitten, or given any further information about any injuries sustained from the alleged camel bite.

"The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence," the Sheriff's Department added in the post. "The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law."

It's been a tumultuous time for Slaton. In March 2023, it was announced her husband of four years, Michael Halterman — with whom she shares sons Gage Deon, 4, and Glenn Allen, 2 — had filed for divorce .

While talking about parenthood following their son Glenn's birth during a 2023 episode of the hit TLC reality series, Slaton said, "My heart is full," adding, "Being a mom is what I've wanted to do since I was 5 years old and I've always wanted two kids. Our family is finally complete. We can put us in a frame and hang us on the wall now."

In December 2023, Slaton spoke to PEOPLE about prioritizing her mental health and parenting her two sons following her divorce.

After a tough year, she said at the time that her mental health had been “the worst it’s ever been.”

“And it wasn't just affecting me, it was affecting Gage and Glenn. So it was just rough,” Slaton admitted.

Safari park camel bite and 'suspicious odors' from car lead to '1,000-Lb. Sisters' star's child endangerment arrest at zoo

L eft: Amy Slaton Halterman in August 2024 during a treat review (Amy Slaton-Halterman/YouTube). Right: a booking photo at the Crockett County Jail after her Labor Day arrest.

A woman known for co-starring on TLC’s reality TV show “ 1,000-Lb. Sisters ” found herself under arrest and accused of child endangerment on Labor Day after a bizarre camel bite incident at a safari park in Alamo, Tennessee.

The incident involving Amy Slaton Halterman unfolded at the Tennessee Safari Park, where guests can drive through in their cars and view the animals, evidently including camels, up close.

The Crockett County Sheriff’s Office, heading its press release with “FROM FEEDING A CAMEL TO THE SLAMMER” and commenting on the “no ordinary Labor Day” nature of the case, said its investigation began with a report of a guest bitten by a camel and led to a car with “suspicious odors.”

Investigators allege that the mushrooms and marijuana were in the vehicle and that children were endangered at the time.

“Upon arrival, deputies were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle,” authorities said, appearing to identify the car as Slaton Halterman’s and Brian Lovvorn as a passenger.

Brian Lovvorn (Crockett County Sheriff’s Office).

Both were taken to the Crockett County Jail on two child endangerment counts and drug possession charges, the sheriff’s office said.

It’s unclear if they have defense attorneys.

Slaton Halterman, a mother of two sons , has said “[b]eing a mom is what I’ve wanted to do since I was 5 years old and I’ve always wanted two kids.”

But in the aftermath of a divorce last year from her husband Michael, the father of her children, she said the state of her mental health was the “worst it’s ever been.”

Why was ‘1000-Lb. Sisters’ star Amy Slaton arrested at a Tennessee zoo?

Amy Slaton Halterman, known for appearing on TLC’s “1000-Lb. Sisters,” was arrested in Tennessee on Labor Day.

On Sept. 2, authorities responded to an incident at the Tennessee Safari Park zoo in Alamo, Tennessee, “where a guest allegedly was bitten by a camel,” the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department said in a release .

Authorities said that “upon arrival, deputies were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle.”

Slaton Halterman was arrested for illegal possession of Schedule I, illegal possession of Schedule VI and two counts of child endangerment, police said.

The  DEA defines Schedule I drugs  as “drugs with no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.” They include heroine, LSD and marijuana. Schedule IV drugs are “drugs, substances, or chemicals are defined as drugs with a low potential for abuse and low risk of dependence,” like Xanax and Valium.

A person named Brian Scott Lovvorn was in the vehicle and is facing the same charges, police also said.

TODAY.com has reached out to Slaton Halterman for comment.

Slaton Halterman, 36, is known for starring in the reality series “1000-Lb. Sisters,” which follows her and her sister Tammy Slaton 's weight loss journeys.

The show began in 2020 and wrapped up its fifth season in February.

In November 2020, Slaton Halterman and her then-husband, Michael Halterman, announced they had welcomed their first child , Gage.

Slaton Halterman said she discovered she was pregnant a second time four months after undergoing gastric bypass surgery.

“At first I thought the doctor made a mistake by telling me I was pregnant,” she told TODAY Parents via her rep in December 2020. “Then I was just overjoyed by the news."

She and Halterman welcomed their second child , Glenn Allen Halterman, in July 2022. Halterman and Slaton Halterman have since divorced.

Lindsay Lowe has been a regular contributor to TODAY.com since 2016, covering pop culture, style, home and other lifestyle topics. She is also working on her first novel, a domestic drama set in rural Regency England.

'1,000-lb Sisters' star arrested at Tennessee zoo on drug possession, child endangerment charges

Reality TV star Amy Slaton Halterman was arrested on Labor Day at a Tennessee zoo on drug and child endangerment charges.

Halterman, 36, who stars along with her sister in TLC’s “1,000-lb Sisters,” was charged with illegal possession of Schedule I, illegal possession of Schedule VI, and two counts of child endangerment on Monday, the Crockett County Sheriff’s Department said.

Deputies had responded to a call regarding a guest allegedly bitten by a camel at Tennessee Safari Park, a drive and walk through zoo, in Alamo.

When deputies arrived they were “immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest’s vehicle,” the sheriff’s office said.

Authorities did not disclose what the cause of the smell was, but said Halterman and Brian Scott Lovvorn were in the vehicle and both were hit with the same charges.

They were booked into the Crockett County Jail. A judge on Tuesday set bond at $10,000 for each of them.

Halterman has two kids, Gage Deon Halterman, 4, and Glenn Allen Halterman, 2, with Michael Halterman, who filed for divorce in March 2023, People Magazine reports.

It’s not clear who was bitten by the camel or if Halterman's children were with her at the time of the incident.

“1,000-lb Sisters” first aired on TLC in 2020 and follows the story of two Kentucky sisters — Halterman and her elder sister Tammy — on their weight loss journeys.

1,000-lb Sisters' Amy Slaton arrested at zoo on drug, child endangerment charges

(Crockett County Sheriff's Department)

ALAMO, Tenn. (WKRC) - 1,000-lb Sisters ' star Amy Slaton Halterman was arrested at a zoo on charges of drug possession and child endangerment.

According to a post from the Crockett County Sheriff's Department, Slaton, who has starred on 1,000-lb Sisters on TLC since the show first premiered in 2020, was taken into custody alongside Brian Scott Lovvorn on Labor Day.

Deputies were asked to respond to Safari Park in Alamo, Tennessee, where a guest was allegedly bitten by a camel. Upon arriving, authorities were "overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the guest's vehicle."

Slaton was taken into custody and charged with the following:

  • Illegal possession of Schedule I
  • Illegal possession of Schedule VI
  • Two counts of child endangerment

Authorities said Lovvorn was in the vehicle and is now facing the same charges.

Both suspects were booked at the Crockett County Jail.

"The charges and allegations referenced in this release are merely accusations of criminal conduct and not evidence. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt and convicted through due process of law," authorities wrote.

Amy Slaton of 1000lb Sisters reality fame has been arrested in West Tennessee.

The star and her boyfriend, Brian Lovron, were booked on Labor Day after she was bitten by a camel which reportedly lead to police finding drugs inside their vehicle.

According to Crockett County Sheriff's Department deputies were called to the local safari park after a guest was injured by a camel.

Tammy Slaton is one of the star of 1000lb Sisters

The department's Facebook page then states that upon arrival deputies “were immediately overtaken by suspicious odors coming from the car, which sat Halterman, Brian Scott Lovvorn, and two children."

Both parties now face charges of Schedule 1 and Schedule VI substance possession and two counts of child endangerment.

She and Brian are being held at Crockett County Jail.

Amy — who stars on the TLC show with her sister, Tammy — is a mom of two children.

She shares sons, Gage, four, and Glenn, two, with her ex-husband, Michael Halterman.

Their divorce was finalized in September 2023 after a six-month court battle which ended with them agreeing on split custody of their kids.

Amy has spoken about her passion for motherhood on the show and after her youngest child was born, she said: "My heart is full. Being a mom is what I've wanted to do since I was five years old and I've always wanted two kids. Our family is finally complete. We can put us in a frame and hang us on the wall now."

When Amy and Tammy started the show, they had a combined weight of over 1000lbs.

While Tammy has lost a staggering 440lbs, Amy said last year she wasn't focused as much on her weight loss.

She has lost 176lbs bt told People she's prioritizing her mental health and caring for her children.

“You can't have weight loss without mental health," she said.

Of her marriage, she added: "There was no support. There was no love. There was no kindness. There was just mental abuse."
