Just coming back from a day at sea with captain Tito, Marcos, Eli and Dantoine and cannot say enough about their hospitality. Not only are they great at what they do from a hospitality and safety standpoint they are just so engaged with the guests including great conversationalists about the island. This was absolutely a beautiful experience with an amazing crew. Thank you Captain! You and your crew were amazing.
We loved Castillo Tours & our crew (Captain Robert & crew). We'll planned day with swimming, snorkeling and relaxation. Would absolutely book with this company again! The downside was that we booked through Viator and requested a vegetarian option for lunch & it was confirmed but they didn't have anything for our vegetarian because Viator never passed the information along. Consider booking through Yelp or directly with Castillo Tours!
Catamaran cruise. What an amazing experience. We sailed out to an island - about a 30 minute ride. Drinks and music the whole way over. Threw down and anchor and then hung out for like 3 hours before sailing back. Sitting at the front of the boat was my favorite. The 3 guys that made up the crew were all awesome. Great sense of humor and terrific customer service. HIGHLY recommend.
View from the front of the boat.
My family of five had a blast on this tour today. We weren't quite sure what to expect even though they are very clear with you before hand, you just never know. You meet at the morning to depart by 9 and then go to the island and swim, tan, float, whatever lol. They have a large float, snorkeling gear, volleyballs, etc. for you to use as well. The water was so beautiful. The drive was smooth. The drinks were delicious and the staff was amazing. I'm terrible with names but I know Anthony, Richard, and Marcos were on the boat and one other gentlemen. They were all amazing. Marcos was so good with my son and was super engaging with the entire family. They all made sure we always had drinks (non alcoholic too) and provided a really good lunch too that consisted of turkey sandwiches, chip bags, packaged cookies, and really delicious pasta salad. Even my picky eater kids ate it all. After the beach float, you get back on the boat around 12:10 and take a short boat ride down the way to Tortuga Bay (there's no turtles lol) to snorkel. There are tons of fish. There's also Pretty strong current so be prepared for that or only send your best swimmers out. All in all I would definitely recommend this trip and this crew and company specifically! Worth the money and a great memory for our family. Oh yeah, there's a bathroom on board too lol. That was important for me .

On my way back from San Juan Puerto Rico let's say I loved every second of my trip especially our wonderful snorkeling tour from Castillo Tours. The crew, the drinks, and the food were outstanding, and we all felt safe and well taken care of on our journey. The restroom facilities were clean, safe, and accessible, and our snorkeling spot was first-class. If you fly Drone (like me) there is a chance at the swimming area to take amazing photos and video and please bring your Go-pro or action camera. A waterproof cell phone case is not going to cut it because of the humidity (the case gets foggy). Once back on the boat the crew kept up the drinks, music, and dance back to port. It was truly amazing, and if I ever go back to Puerto Rico, I will do this again!
This was a really fun snorkeling excursion and my group was so glad we booked with Castillo Tours. The event says to arrive by 715 AM and they depart around 8 AM. I would recommend arriving that early to get your gear, apply lotion and getting a covered seat on the catamaran. The excursion ran for about 5 hours. About 2.5 hours at Icacos Beach and another hour snorkeling. The team on board was really professional. The boat was very clean from the gear, drinking/ seating area and the bathroom. Our drinks were constantly being refilled. Comparing our boat with the other ones on the pier, ours was definitely the cleanest one from the exterior. You get the option of Pina colada and soda with rum drinks. For lunch, we were served chips, pesto pasta, peanut free vegetarian pasta and bagged lunches which included cookies and a turkey sandwich. Overall, we really enjoyed our experience on board. The staff was so accommodating and friendly. We all felt like we got great value considering it was 5 hours for less than $100 worth of entertainment. We definitely got our $s worth with all of the alcohol and food that we consumed.
Our Barefoot boat- clean and updated vs the run down competitors
If you want to take the snorkeling trip of your life go with Castillo tours Amazing trip the guys are on it music all the way to the islands highly recommended Drinks and food can't say any more do it Thank you guys the Rios family
Took the Catamaran, Barefoot, with Captain Robert and his crew Marcos, Eli, Adrian. They were very attentive and quick to refill your drink, lunch was very good, sandwiches with chips and a pasta salad. They were available to answer questions and the scenery was beautiful. Definitely will come back again!
The Barefoot on Icacos

This is a 5 star tour! Trust the reviews. They take you on a nice ride from the marina out to Icacos Island where you can snorkel, paddle board or just swim around. The water is bright blue (clear) and warm! Lunch and drinks are included and they are very good! The whole staff is amazing. They are super friendly and make sure your drink is never empty. Jeremy was awesome and loved his energy! OH, and their music is perfect! I Shazam'd a few songs to add to my own playlists haha. Well worth the price.

Puerto Rico Things to Do ⎮ Things to Do in San Juan Puerto Rico ⎮ Castillo San Cristobal / San Cristobal Fortress
Save a Spot - Most Popular Walking Tour
The largest fortification built in the new world, a unesco world heritage site.
Castillo San Cristobal, with its sprawling outer defenses, was built over 150 years to protect El Morro and the city from land attacks. Inspired by such attacks by rivals England (1598) and Holland (1625), it was designed by the Irish-born Chief Engineer Thomas O’Daly. O’Daly served Spain because Spain was an enemy of Ireland’s enemy England.
Castillo San Cristobal is the biggest European fortification in the Americas. It lost some outworks when part of the city wall was torn down in 1897 to expand the city of San Juan.” Construction began in 1634 and was completed by 1790. Castillo San Cristobal covers 27 acres on the eastern gate of the islet of San Juan.
Exploring Castillo San Cristobal
Castillo San Cristobal has two entries, the Historic Entrance at the top of the hill on Norzagaray , and the Main Entrance at the bottom east end of Norzagaray . Visitors can do a self-guided tour, brochures are available to navigate with signs throughout the exhibits and grounds of the fortress.
There are three levels at the fortress:
- Level 1: Main Plaza & The Lowest Level
- Level 2: Main Firing Battery
- Level 3: Observation Area & The Highest Level
As you walk around San Cristobal, you see through cannon embrasures, walk into sentry boxes, navigate through tunnels, and observe exhibits of former military quarters. Be sure to take a look at the infamous “Garita del Diablo”, legend tells of soldiers that mysteriously disappeared.
Castillo San Cristobal is a popular wedding venue, the elegant courtyard is a beautiful location for fairy tale wedding without having to travel to a far away place.

What to Do in Puerto Rico by Region
There are quite a few regions in Puerto to explore, each with its own attractions.
The island has seven areas: Metro, North, East, Culebra and Vieques, Central Mountains, South, and West.
If you need help planning your itinerary before your visit, this guide has got you covered.
This list highlights the must-do things in Puerto Rico by region to help you understand what each place offers.
Metro Region
The Metro region has some well-known activities in Puerto Rico. When you arrive on the island, you’ll likely fly into San Juan, which is part of Metro.
#1 Wander Through Old San Juan
The famous San Juan area is one of the first places you should visit in Metro.
This historic district is like stepping back in time with its colorful colonial buildings, cobblestone streets, and ancient forts.
Start your day by walking along the famous blue cobblestone streets, taking in the vibrant buildings that line the narrow roads.
As you explore, you’ll find plenty of shops, cafés, and restaurants where you can enjoy some local Puerto Rican cuisine.
Tip: You can discover San Juan and its many landmarks with this guided Old San Juan walking tour .
#2 Have Drinks at Casa Bacardí
If you’re a fan of rum, Casa Bacardí in Cataño is a must-visit.
This rum distillery offers tours where you can learn about the history of Bacardí and see how their famous rum is made.
You’ll also get to sample different types of rum and even mix your own cocktail.
The tour ends with a stop at the gift shop, where you can buy bottles to take home.
It’s a fun and informative stop for any rum lover.
#3 Discover El Morro
Also known as Castillo San Felipe del Morro , the citadel is one of Puerto Rico’s most iconic landmarks.
Located in Old San Juan, this 16th-century fortress was built to protect the island from invaders.
Today, it’s a UNESCO World Heritage site you’ll definitely want to see for anyone visiting Puerto Rico.
You can explore the fort’s many levels, learn about its history, and take in the breathtaking views of the ocean. It’s a place where history truly comes to life.
East Region
The East region is next up, and contains sights like the El Yunque forest, scenic roads, and food hotspots.
#4 Hike Through El Yunque National Forest
For nature lovers, El Yunque National Forest is a must-visit.
This lush rainforest is located in the northeastern part of Puerto Rico and is the only tropical rainforest that belongs to the U.S. National Forest System.
There are several hiking trails to explore, each offering something different.
The La Mina Trail, for example, leads to a crisp waterfall where you can take a refreshing dip.
Watch for the diverse wildlife, including the island’s famous coquí frogs.
#5 Take a Road Trip on La Ruta del Lechón
If you’re a foodie, you won’t want to miss La Ruta del Lechón, also known as the Pork Highway.
This scenic road in the town of Guavate is lined with lechoneras — restaurants specializing in lechón, a slow-roasted whole pig that’s a Puerto Rican delicacy.
As you drive along the route, you’ll have the chance to stop at various lechoneras to sample this delicious dish, along with other traditional Puerto Rican foods like mofongo and pasteles .
Culebra and Vieques Region
This region is made up of two islands: Culebra and Vieques.
You can take a ferry to reach these places, each of which offers unique things to do in Puerto Rico.
#6 Relax on Flamenco Beach
Flamenco Beach is often ranked among the best beaches in the world, and it’s easy to see why.
Located on the island of Culebra, the beach boasts powdery white sand and crystal-clear water. It’s also an awesome spot to relax under the sun, swim, or snorkel.
If you’re looking for a beach day, Flamenco Beach is the place to be.
#7 Kayak in a Bioluminescent Bay
One of the most magical experiences you can have in Puerto Rico is kayaking in a bioluminescent bay.
The island has three bioluminescent bays: Mosquito Bay in Vieques, Laguna Grande in Fajardo, and La Parguera in Lajas.
The water here glows at night due to tiny organisms called dinoflagellates.
As you paddle through the water, you’ll see it light up with each stroke. It’s an experience that’s hard to put into words but one you’ll never forget.
Central Mountains Region
Less busy than other parts of the island, the Central Mountains region offers a chance to enjoy nature in peace… or by ziplining at an adventure park.
#8 Go Ziplining in Toro Verde Adventure Park
If you’re craving some adrenaline, head to Toro Verde Adventure Park .
This park is home to one of the world’s longest ziplines, called the Monster. You’ll soar over the lush landscape at speeds of up to 90 miles per hour.
It’s an experience that’s both thrilling and scenic. The park also offers other activities like rock climbing and rappelling, making it a great spot for adventure seekers.
#9 Cemi Museum
The Cemi Museum, located in Jayuya, Puerto Rico, is dedicated to the Taíno culture, the indigenous people of the island.
The museum is shaped like a cemi, a sacred Taíno symbol, and showcases artifacts, replicas, and exhibits about Taíno life, spirituality, and history.
It’s an insightful stop for those interested in Puerto Rico’s pre-Columbian heritage.
South Region
The South region is one of the best places to visit in Puerto Rico for learning history and drinking some tasty coffee.
#10 Stroll Through Ponce
Ponce, known as the “Pearl of the South,” is a charming city on the southern coast of Puerto Rico.
It’s known for its beautiful colonial architecture, vibrant plazas, and rich cultural history.
Start your visit at the Plaza Las Delicias, where you can admire the stunning Ponce Cathedral and the iconic red-and-black striped Parque de Bombas.
Also, make sure you visit the Museo de Arte de Ponce , which houses one of the most important art collections in the Caribbean.
#11 Learn About Coffee at Hacienda Buena Vista
Step back in time at Hacienda Buena Vista, a historic coffee plantation near Ponce.
The hacienda offers guided tours that showcase the traditional coffee-making process, from bean to cup.
The scenic grounds also include waterfalls and restored buildings, providing a peaceful and informative escape into Puerto Rico’s agricultural past.
North Region
The North region offers even more special attractions in Puerto Rico, such as caves, beaches, and gorgeous views.
#12 Scout La Cueva del Indio
La Cueva del Indio is a coastal cave with ancient petroglyphs carved by the Taíno people.
Located near Arecibo, this site offers both history and stunning ocean views.
The cave is perched on a cliff, and a short hike takes you to the entrance.
Inside, you’ll find the petroglyphs; outside, the waves crash against the rocky shore — an incredible sight.
#13 Explore the Caves at Río Camuy Cave Park
For a unique adventure, head to Río Camuy Cave Park, where you can explore one of the largest cave systems in the world.
The park has over 220 caves, but only a few are open to the public.
This full-day guided tour will take you through the main cave, Cueva Clara, where you’ll see massive stalactites and stalagmites, underground rivers, and natural formations.
The western portion of the island is also its largest. Here are some notable adventures to have in this area.
#14 Immerse Yourself in the History of San Germán
San Germán is one of Puerto Rico’s oldest towns and a hidden gem worth exploring.
It’s often overlooked by tourists, which makes it a perfect spot for a peaceful getaway.
The town is full of historical buildings, including the Porta Coeli Church, one of the oldest in the Americas.
Walk through the narrow streets, visit the local museums, and soak in the town’s rich history.
#15 Go Surfing and Whale Watching at Rincon
Rincon is a town on Puerto Rico’s West Coast known for the best waves.
It’s a great spot for surfers, but don’t worry if you’re not ready to take on the waves.
Instead, you can go on an equally exciting whale-watching tour by booking with one of the local companies offering tours.
Check out Simply Caught Charters and Taino Divers to see Humpback whales between January and March.

Kathleen Squires and Ronnie Rodriguez
Hosted by Chef Wilo Benet, the first San Juan Guest Chef Series sailing, will depart St. Maarten on Jan. 4, 2025, and pass the majestic Castillo San Felipe del Morro “El Morro,” arriving in San Juan on Jan. 10.
Subsequent January sailings, all docking at San Juan Cruise Port, will feature Chef Julie Carrión on Jan. 10-17, Chef Francis Guzmán on Jan. 17-24 and Chef Mario Pagán on Jan. 24-Feb.1. About Sea Cloud Cruises
Since 1979, Sea Cloud Cruises has been one of the world’s most storied names in cruise travel. The 90-year-old four-masted Sea Cloud, her younger sister Sea Cloud II, and new Sea Cloud Spirit combine the experience of traditional seamanship with the ambience and luxurious charm of classically elegant private yachts.
On each of the three sailing yachts, the sails are still traditionally hoisted by hand – an impressive and stunning job every time. There are no buttons that can simply be pressed and it takes almost a full hour until all sails catch the wind. Each voyage includes at least one day under full sail, a highlight of the Sea Cloud Cruises experience.
Chef Wilo Benet
Chef Wilo Benet kicks off the inaugural San Juan Guest Chef Series Jan. 4–10 sailing from Philipsburg/St. Maarten to San Juan/Puerto Rico (six nights), which will include a special Three Kings Dinner on Jan. 6 and cooking demonstrations from scratch of tostones with caviar and coquito.
The itinerary includes Virgin Gorda/British Virgin Islands overnight, Gustavia/St. Barthelemy, a day beneath full sails through Sir Francis Drake Channel, Norman Island/British Virgin Islands overnight, San Juan/Puerto Rico.
Benet’s career of over 40 years began as a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America. In 2019, he launched the highly popular Wilo Eatery & Bar, offering casual dining from fritters to foie gras. In addition to several appearances on Top Chef Masters, he has served U.S. Presidents, Hollywood A-listers and professional athletes.
Chef Julie Carrión
Chef Julie Carrión will host the first San Juan/Puerto Rico roundtrip (seven nights) sailing Jan. 10-17 and will lead an interactive pasteles-making class and a Tembleque dessert demo. The voyage ports include Virgin Gorda/British Virgin Islands, Norman Island/British Virgin Islands, St. John’s/Antigua, Gustavia/St. Barthelemy overnight, St. John/U.S. Virgin Islands, San Juan/Puerto Rico.
A native of San Juan, Carrión spent the early years of her culinary career in New York training under Top Chef Master Anita Lo, and then worked under Montreal-based chef Normand Laprisse of Toque’, before accepting a position at the Restaurant Daniel, the year that Daniel Boulud won back his coveted fourth star from The New York Times.
From there, she managed Yale University Catering Services for a decade while serving as the executive chef to the university’s president and elite guests, before taking the helm of the kitchen at Chef’s Dinner Table in New York City. Chef’s Dinner Table is a private dining venue and salon in specializing in high-end culinary events.
Chef Francis Guzmán
Chef Francis Guzmán will be the guest chef on the San Juan/Puerto Rico roundtrip (seven nights) sailing Jan. 17-24 featuring special culinary experiences including ceviche and fritter demonstrations by the recently James Beard Foundation Award-nominated Best Chef in the Nation. Itinerary highlights include Virgin Gorda/British Virgin Islands, Norman Island/British Virgin Islands, Gustavia/St. Barthelemy overnight, St. John’s/Antigua, St. John/U.S. Virgin Islands, San Juan/Puerto Rico.

Loading results...
What "Private Vehicle" means
At some parks, the price of a standard entrance pass (the entrance fee) depends on whether you enter in a vehicle. The "Private Vehicle" price is the entrance fee for one vehicle and its passengers. At these parks, the " Per Person " price is the entrance fee if you instead enter on a bicycle or on foot. Vehicle and motorcycle passengers don't need a separate pass.
What "Per Person" means
At some parks, the price of a standard entrance pass (the entrance fee) depends on whether you enter in a vehicle. If a park lists both " Private Vehicle " and "Per Person" prices, the "Per Person" price is the entrance fee if you enter on a bicycle or on foot. If a park lists only one price, labeled "Per Person", you must have your own entrance pass, even if you're a passenger in a vehicle.
