How industry status has raised hopes of tourism revival in rajasthan, stakeholders hope the rs 1,000 crore allocation in the budget will be spent innovatively to transform tourism in the state.

The grant of industry status for tourism means that power tariff and certain taxes would be at par with other industries, as against the current commercial charges, which are way higher. Hoteliers and restaurateurs in the state had to pay hefty power bills even for minimum load through the difficult Covid lockdown periods as they were subjected to commercial rates.

Gehlot said the tariff concessions will bring a financial burden of Rs 700 crore a year on the state exchequer. He also announced the Rajasthan Rural Tourism Scheme, under which transfer of property would be exempted from stamp duty, besides other sops such as reimbursement of SGST for 10 years and loans up to Rs 25 lakh at 9 per cent interest.

To encourage conversion of heritage properties into hotels, Rajasthan will offer concessional stamp duty on purchase and lease agreement for hotels housed in buildings constructed prior to 1950. The land rates for resorts, camping sites, amusement parks and animal safari parks will be kept same as residential rates in the urban areas and agricultural rates in the rural areas.

The state budget has earmarked Rs 1,000 crore for developing tourism. The figure is based on a tourism development fund of Rs 500 crore for 2022-23 and a similar amount allocated in 2021-22. Of this, Rs 600 crore will be spent on infrastructure, including building toilets at places of tourist interest, and the rest on tourism promotion. However, there is apprehension about whether the money will be spent judiciously. “We want an advisory committee or authority to be formed that supervises how this Rs 1,000 crore will be spent. It must yield concrete results,“ says Mandawa.

Diya Kumari, the BJP MP from Rajsamand, says the funds should not be spent on stereotyped ways of tourism promotion. “It’s a huge amount which, if spent properly, can help transform tourism in Rajasthan. So many properties across the state need basic conservation and development to attract tourists,” she says.

Industry stakeholders expect tourism minister Vishvendra Singh and Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) chairman Dharmendra Singh Rathore to bring in innovative changes to the sector. Hoteliers have, meanwhile, started exploring ways to attract tourists. The focus is on young travellers and creating recreational options for them. Arvind Jain of Resort Sawai Vilas in Ranthambore says that while the state government’s initiatives are welcome, the need is to promote sustainable tourism. “It’s bad to turn Ranthambore into a wedding destination that it is fast becoming. Instead, it should have eco-friendly and heritage-friendly tourism in the backdrop of the Ranthambore Fort and Chambal river,” says Jain.

Invest Rajasthan 2022: Tourism Conclave discusses potential of tourism in economic growth and ways to make it affordable

Rajasthan Government organised Tourism Conclave under the Invest Rajasthan Summit-2022 at JECC in Jaipur on Friday. The Conclave was attended by ministers, senior officers and experts and industry leaders related to the field expressed their views. “The state government has taken unprecedented steps keeping in mind the goal of reviving the tourism industry after the Covid Panemic,” Rajasthan’s Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh said during the session on ‘Tourism – A Game Changer for Economic Growth’. He said that there is immense potential for the development of tourism industry in the state. “People want to see new things. It is the effort of the state government to develop new circuits from the point of view of tourism,” Singh said.

Singh expressed the need to develop Eastarn Rajasthan from the point of view of tourism and urged the investors to develop new dimensions of tourism by exploring new possibilities in this area. Speaking on the occasion, the Minister of State for Tourism, Murari Lal Meena said that entrepreneurs and startups should come forward to attract the middle class in the tourism sector. He added there is need to make tourism affordable and accessible for all. He said that the state’s art, culture, its forests and deserts all have a different attraction, which attracts tourists from abroad. Meena said that all possible efforts are being made by the State Government for tourism development. He said that there is immense potential for rural tourism in the state. Dharmendra Rathod, Chairman, Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation said that the State Government has worked with full commitment in the last four years to promote tourism. “Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has made a provision of rupees one thousand crore as tourism development fund in the state, which will give new heights to the tourism industry of Rajasthan. Apart from this, unprecedented decisions have been taken in the state like giving industry status to tourism, implementing tourism policy, implementing many other policies and schemes like Rajasthan Film Tourism Promotion Policy and Rajasthani Eco Tourism Policy. The state government has also started work to restore the hotels of RTDC to their former glory,” Rathod said.

Gayatri Rathod, Principal Secretary, Tourism Department, informed about the policy reforms and works done by the State Government for tourism promotion in the last four years.

Conducting the session, Sunil Mehta of The Tree House Resort said that after the Corona pandemic, the trend of tourists towards niche tourism has increased. “There are immense possibilities of eco-tourism, wildlife tourism and natural tourism in Rajasthan, which can be developed to attract tourists on a large scale,” Mehta said. Puneet Chatwal, CEO and Managing Director, The Indian Hotels Company said that there is a need to make tourism activities eco-friendly. Chatwal said that tourism should preserve and nurture the local art, culture and heritage.

On this occasion, eminent filmmaker Muzaffar Ali said that tourism in Rajasthan can be promoted through films. Ali said that the locations shown in the films easily attract the common man. During the session, Jaisal Singh of Anand Group, mountaineer Sanjay Bose, filmmaker and environmentalist Pradeep Krishna also expressed their views on the present scenario of tourism in the state and the possibilities of development in future.

Rajasthan tourism unit policy 2022 to come into effect

At a review meeting held of Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart (RDTM) that is scheduled to happen in the month of July this year, Rajasthan Tourism Minister Vishvendra Singh opinedthat efforts are going to make sure that the Rajasthan tourism unit policy 2022 will come into effect during the time of business-to-business event.

The minister said that Rajasthan Rural Tourism Promotion Scheme will benefit farmers in a big way. He also said that the entitlement certificate is being given to the qualified tourism and hospitality units to reap theassistancesof the tourism industry.

The minister spoke to the RDTM, and said that he was informed by the delegation of the Federation of Hospitality and Tourism in Rajasthan (FHTR) regarding thegroundworkof the mart.

The review meeting was graced by the director of tourism department Rashmi Sharma along with the representatives of FHTR together withhonorary president Bhim Singh. Other dignitaries present were the current president Apurv Kumar, the president of Indian Heritage Hotels Association Randhir Vikram Singh, the president of Hotels and Restaurant Association of Rajasthan Kuldeep Singh Chandelaas well as the vice-president of FHTR Khaled Khan.

The Rajasthan Tourism Department and Federation of Hospitality and Tourism Rajasthan (FHTR) will be organizing the second edition of the Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart (RDTM) in Jaipur in a combined way from July 22, 2022 to July 24, 2022.

Rajasthan to launch new Film Tourism Promotion Policy during RDTM on July 22

Sharing more information, Gayatri Rathore, Principal Secretary- Tourism, Government of Rajasthan, said that the new policy will provide an enabling environment with subsidies and incentives up to INR 2 crore for all kinds of films - be it regional, Bollywood, Hollywood, or OTT. The 2nd edition of Rajasthan Domestic Travel Mart is scheduled to begin on July 22.
