Celine Dion’s sister Claudette Dion has given an update on the Grammy-winning singer’s health following last year’s diagnosis of stiff person syndrome.

Stiff-person syndrome, which affects about one in a million people and has no cure, is characterized by muscle rigidity and spasms, heightened sensitivity to sound and lights, and emotional distress that can cause spasms, according to the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke .

Such spasms, Dion told NBC’s Hoda Kotb in a Friday tease to an upcoming “Today” interview, hinder her ability to perform or even carry out everyday tasks — and have broken her ribs.

When she’s cooking, she said, “my fingers, my hands will get into a position … like, you cannot unlock them.” And singing, “it’s like somebody’s strangling you.”

“She’s on, like, the fight of her life right now,” Kotb said in the tease. “She’s fighting through it. She’s trying to figure out if she can come back.”

When Dion first learned she had stiff-person syndrome, she was gearing up to resume her Courage World Tour , which began in 2019 but was interrupted in March 2020 by the pandemic. After announcing initial delays , Dion went on to cancel the entire tour in May 2023.

“I’m so sorry to disappoint all of you once again. I’m working really hard to build back my strength, but touring can be very difficult even when you’re 100%,” Dion said at the time. “It’s not fair to you to keep postponing the shows, and even though it breaks my heart, it’s best that we cancel everything now until I’m really ready to be back on stage again.”

“I want you all to know, I’m not giving up,” she said.

“It’s hard, I’m working very hard and tomorrow will be even harder,” she said. “But there’s one thing that will never stop, and that’s the will. It’s the passion. It’s the dream. It’s the determination.”

As for when she might return to the stage, “My body will tell me,” she said.

In February, Dion received a standing ovation when she made a surprise appearance at the Grammys to present the album of the year award to Taylor Swift.

Kaylee McKeown a nagé le deuxième temps de l'histoire du 200 m dos jeudi à Brisbane, lors des sélections olympiques australiennes, une performance témoignant à nouveau de l'excellent niveau de la natation nationale à quelques semaines des Jeux olympiques de Paris.

L'athlète de 22 ans, déjà championne olympique en titre et détentrice du record du monde, a parcouru la distance en 2 min 3 s 30/100. Cela confirme son statut de grande favorite dans la capitale française. Son temps était légèrement au-dessus du record de 2:03,14 qu'elle a établi l'an dernier.

Sa domination était telle qu'elle a terminé avec quatre secondes d'avance sur la deuxième, Jaclyn Barclay, également qualifiée pour les JO.

Mardi, elle avait réussi le deuxième temps de l'histoire au 100 m dos, en 57,41 s, juste derrière son propre record du monde de 57,33 s. À Paris, elle constituera la principale opposition pour la Canadienne Kylie Masse, vice-championne olympique du 200 m dos et également qualifiée pour le 100 m dos .

Lundi, elle avait réalisé une autre performance avec le chrono le plus rapide au 200 m quatre nages depuis les JO de Rio en 2016.

L'Australie est un sérieux candidat à de nombreuses médailles en natation, grâce à McKeown notamment.

Mercredi, Ariarne Titmus a battu le record du monde au 200 m libre avec un temps de 1:52,23. L'ancienne marque était détenue par une autre nageuse australienne, Mollie O'Callaghan (1:52,85). Celle-ci a terminé 2e en battant elle aussi sa propre marque.

Arthur Fogel reçoit son prix lors des Power Players de Billboard Canada

L'industrie de la musique était présente en force pour célébrer le premier événement Power Players au Canada, le dimanche 2 juin, au-dessus de Toronto, à la Tour CN. La soirée, glamour et animée, a été l'un des premiers moments forts de la Semaine de la musique canadienne.

Dana Droppo, directrice de la marque chez Billboard, a lancé la soirée en félicitant les personnes à succès présentes dans la salle, des agents aux promoteurs, en passant par les éditeurs, les fondateurs et les créateurs.
