The Best of Sumba
Sumba is an island in East Nusa Tenggara which is divided into four districts: West Sumba, Southwest Sumba, Central Sumba and East Sumba. The island is bordered by Sumbawa in the northwest, Flores in the northeast, Timor in the east and Australia in the south and southeast.
In Sumba there are airports and sea ports that connect Sumba with other islands such as Sumbawa Island, Flores Island and Timor Island. With this best of Sumba Tour Package, you will discover outstanding beaches , admire wonderful viewpoints and discover hidden gems given by the nature.
Trip Itinerary
Day 1: arrival tmc airport – sumba cultural house – sumba’s cashew & coffee product journey – lendongara hill sunset, day 2 : weekuri lake – mandorak beach – ratenggaro village – pero beach sunset.
Breakfast at the hotel. Today you will explore more of the South-West part of Sumba Island. You’re going to the Kodi area, and you will make a visit to Weekuri Lake, a crystal-clear lake that makes it a great place to swim and to relax. Spend some time in the lake for a short (or long) dip. Do not miss the opportunity to walk around the rocks and reefs where you can also see the Oceans from one side. Next to Weekuri Lake, you will find Mandorak Beach, guarded by two huge rock ridges pointing to the middle and crystal-clear water. Lunch boxes will be provided here because there are no restaurants in the area.
The next visit will be to Ratenggaro Village. Here you will see the traditional high rooftops houses (actually the highest rooftops in whole Sumba) made all by hand and traditionally. This village is the only one of a few traditional villages left in the area, and while the village is just a compound of some houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members. During the harvesting season, however, most of the villagers will stay in their fields to work and only leave the elders and children in the village. This village is beautiful because it is built in front of the beach. After visiting the village, you will go to Pero beach to enjoy the sunset view. Then back to the hotel.
Meals: Breakfast – Lunch Box Accommodation: A. The Sima Hotel (Deluxe Room) B. Mario Beach Hotel (Superior Sea View) C. Ella Hotel (Deluxe Room)
Day 3 : Local Market – Waikacura Ricefield – Lapopu Waterfall
After breakfast, you will check out the hotel today, and go explore West Sumba. On the way, you will visit a local market where you can engage with the locals and see that they sell their local products directly. Try to connect with them with our guide assistance! Continuing to make a visit to the Waikacura area, do a short trek in the ricefield, where you can also enjoy the beautiful view of the small river located in the middle of the ricefield. Then you go to the local restaurant for lunch. Next on our adventure will be the Lapopu Waterfall. After a drive through the endless hilly and green landscape of Sumba, you will arrive near the waterfall. To visit the waterfall, you will need to do a small hike of approximately 15 minutes and cross a bamboo bridge to get there. There is a nice spot to sit down where you can watch the water find its way down the hill. After that, you will go to your resort.
Meals : Breakfast – Lunch Accommodation : A. Rua Beach Resort (Deluxe Room) B. Bobocabin Sumba (Deluxe Cabin) C. Morikka Inn (Deluxe Room)
Day 4 : Praijing Village – Anakalang Village – Walakiri Beach Sunset
Having breakfast and checking out from of the hotel. Today you will go to the east part of Sumba, and during the long drive you will make some visits on the way. Our first visit will be to the village of Praijing. Praijing village is a traditional village uphill, surrounded by lots of greenery. This is one of the few villages where you can actually have a beautiful overview of the entire village and get an idea of how the village is conducted. Take some time to walk around the village; the elders occupy most of the houses, and kids are always around to share their smiles. Next, drive to East Sumba. On the way, you make a visit to the village of Anakalang, which is located in central Sumba. In this village, you will get a chance to visit the big megalithic tomb stone owned by the late king of Sumba in Pasunga Village. A lunch box will be provided. Next, go to your hotel in East Sumba for check-in. Take a bit of rest until the perfect time for the sunset at Walakiri Beach. You will be watching the sunset here while exploring the beach with its beautiful mangroves. Don’t hesitate and walk towards the small and magical trees that are growing inside the water. When the sun has disappeared, go to the hotel, where you can take a rest.

Day 5: Ikat Tenun Village – Out WGP Airport
After breakfast and checking out of the hotel, you will continue the trip to do the last visit of our trip today, to the village that produces Ikat Tenun, the traditional Sumbanese fabrics and costumes. You may try to wear the Ikat Tenun and make a family picture by wearing a Sumbanese traditional costume here. Then go to the airport for your flight back home or to your next destination. End of the trip.

Day 1: Arrival TMC Airport – The Sanubari Beach Resort
Upon arrival at the airport of Tambolaka in Waitabula the resort will arrange your transfer to the Sanubari Resort. Arrive at resort, and check in. The Sanubari is seated on a lush reserve within the forgotten ancestral lands of the Marapu people on Sumba Island. Ancient and mystical, our 100-hectare reserve is a sanctuary for the explorer, the nature lover and anyone seeking a unique experience in one of the world’s last ancient megalithic cultures. From kilometers of empty white sand beaches, to world-class Indonesian surf, to unique once in a life time day adventures.

Day 2: Waikacura Ricefield – Praijing Village – Lapopu Waterfall
A new day, a new adventure. Today the journey will begin with a short trek through the rice fields of Sumba in Waikacura . Locals may be found doing farmer activities, and there is a beautiful view of the river and a small waterfall at the end of the trek. After this visit, we will be heading to another beautiful village; Praijing village . This village is built on top of a hill, and if you want to walk through the entire village, you actually have to walk down the hill. You will have an overview of the entire village at the entrance. On top of that, the inhabitants of the village built a spot where you can have a panoramic view of the village and beyond. The village is also surrounded by the beautiful nature of Sumba.
Next on our adventure will be the Lapopu Waterfall . After a drive through the endless hilly and green landscape of Sumba, you will arrive near the waterfall. To visit the waterfall, you will need to do a short hike of approximately 15 minutes and cross a bamboo bridge to get there. There is a nice spot to sit down where you can watch the water find its way down the hill. You can also bring your swimming clothes to take a dive in the water just in front of the big waterfall and cool down after a long day of adventure.

Day 3: Traditional Market & Villages – Hidden Beach Watubela
Today we will start our tour to explore West Sumba area by visiting the traditional market where you will meet with Sumbanese and see their locals product. After that our trip continuing to Tarung/Waitabar Village. There are two villages at this place, but they are built so close to each other that it will look like one big village. The village will give you a welcoming feeling while you look around. Lunch at local restaurant. After lunch we go to explore Wanokaka, and visit the traditional villages that each has their own stories; Waigali, Praigoli, and Waiwuang Village . After exploring the villages, the trip will end by visiting the beautiful hidden beach in West Sumba, Watubela Beach .
Day 4: Staycation in The Sanubari Beach Resort
This day is your free day in Sumba. You can use your free time to relax at the resort by enjoying their service and facilities.

Day 5: Out TMC Airport
After breakfast, we will pick you up at the resort and escort you to the airport to catch your flight to your next destination.

Pasola is the main festival in February and March, the game of throwing wooden javelins from the back of horses that runs fast between two opposing groups.
Make sure you visit the beautiful beaches. Almost all the beaches are white sands, like Mananga Aba, Watubela, Bwanna, Puru Kambera, Walakiri, and Tarimbang. Many Waterfalls in Sumba is located in the middle of a National Park. Coming to the waterfalls can be an unforgettable trekking experience. Some of them are Matayangu, Lapopu, and Waimarang.

I Spent 7D6N in sumba with this company and everyday i really enjoy the beauti of the nature the culture of the people and the delicious local food what i get 3 times a day. Compare to bali sumba is still like the pure indonesia island without a lot of tourism and commercial things. But i believe sumba will be more famous soon for sure. My mother and I took a 6D5N tour with Hugo and I can say it was one of the best experiences of my life (and I have travelled a lot!!) Hugo was helpful and communicative from the start, picked us up from the airport and we were well taken care of the whole tour, with food and nice lodgings provided. Thanks to the expert driving of Teo, we got to see the whole beautiful island of Sumba, including waterfalls, stunning beaches, and the legendary Pasola festival. As a local, Hugo’s friendliness and familiarity with the people of Sumba allowed us to experience authentic hidden villages and interact with the local people and learn about their daily lives/traditions. I booked a 6 day private tour with Tour-Sumba for January 2023. Hugo was my excellent guide. Before the trip, Hugo presented a proposal for the itinerary taking into account my special interests. It was a well balanced tour between beautiful nature sights, traditional villages and handicrafts, including the most wonderful ikat weaving locations. The trip was pre-planned but also flexible in terms of time spent at places of interest. Hugo has an in-depth knowledge of “adat” - traditions and customs that are omnipresent in the lives of the people of Sumba. He has excellent connections and friendships with the villagers that open many doors. I am very happy to have travelled with Hugo, to have made the excellent decision to book a tour with his company. We traveled as a family of four and did a trip on the island of Flores and Sumba Island. Mas Hugo, the owner of Tour Sumba was very helpful from the start when we planned this trip. The itinerary was arranged in such a way that it can adjust between our wishes and time constraints. The first day we were supposed to land at Bajo, was hampered by bad weather. The trip to Waerebo couldn't be done because after we tried it, two routes to get there were cut off due to flooding and landslides. Luckily we traveled with Tour Sumba who really know the area and have many relationships on the two islands, so plan B can be carried out smoothly, so we can still sleep in a comfortable hotel and not stay up too late. The guides who accompanied us in Flores, Mas Chelly and Mas Argent in Sumba, were very helpful, knowledgeable and fun. The long journey was still exciting and fun (although I and my daughters need to drink antimo while in Flores because the road is very winding ). The drivers are the best, mas Tion in Flores and mas Anto in Sumba. My daughter says that Argent and Anto are 'dynamic duo', we were singing and laughing together along the trip, soooo fun . Thank you so much Tour Sumba for the best trip. Will come back again, soon, in another season. we are in loveee with Sumba and Flores
