Disney Dream Review

disney dream cruise capacity

Disney Dream was Disney's first new ship in 12 years when it debuted in 2011, and it represented the company's step into bigger, bolder and smarter ships. So, it's not surprising that the 128,690-ton vessel (with a maximum capacity of 4,000 passengers) -- and its near-twin, Disney Fantasy -- is 40 percent larger and two decks taller than the company's previous ships, Disney Magic and Disney Wonder. Disney Dream is the size of almost seven consecutive Olympic pools.

And while Disney kept the same classic design inspired by the ocean liners of the 1920s and 1930s, this ship is far from the same-old; a closer look reveals many innovative features and spaces. Advanced uses of technology throughout the ship include virtual portholes in inside cabins, and "Enchanted Art," digital paintings that come to life as you admire them.

Families can pick up a packet at the Midship Detective Agency and use the digital works to solve a mystery. Interactive Magic Play Floors, a ship-limited social network and a sound studio enhance the kids clubs.

A Disney Dream Cruise is Not Only for Kids and Mickey Fans

If you're a huge Disney fan (or your kid is), you don't need to be convinced to sail with one of the best family entertainment enterprises around. If you're not -- or have never seen a Disney ship -- you might have the mistaken impression that this line is only for families with little kids who love Mickey Mouse and princesses.

Sure, young Disney fans are the line's bread and butter, and they always have been. But, Dream does offer evidence that a Disney cruise is not only for kids or overgrown Mouse fans. The art deco decor onboard is elegant and jazzy and imparts an old-world luxury, mostly refined, but with a touch of glitz. The pioneering, tech-friendly kids clubs, with spaces themed on Pixar and Disney movies, have a huge amount of beanbag-chair- and videogame-filled real estate dedicated to tweens and teens, a noble effort to better cater to the older-than-8 crowd.

Entertaining dinner shows help keep fidgety youngsters occupied during long sit-down meals. Adults can appreciate high-quality, multicourse dining at Remy; the creative use of costuming and technology (and some mildly adult humor) in the shows; and grown-up activities, such as wine tastings and late-night games and dancing.

Adults also have access to a pool, a sun deck, bars and lounges, restaurants and even shore excursions where those younger than 18 are not allowed. That's good because, in the words of Walt himself, "You're dead if you aim only for kids. Adults are only kids grown up, anyway."

The Disney Dream Deck Plan Includes Five Main Restaurants and Multiple Cabin-Only Decks

Although it’s a larger and more impressive ship than the line’s oldest vessels, Disney Dream decks plans are in many ways similar. Most staterooms are housed in cabin-only decks (decks 5 to 11), while louder public areas such as restaurants, pools, bars and theaters have their own separate areas. This allows for quiet nights in most staterooms. Disney Dream Concierge cabins and suites are all on Deck 12.

That said, the best deck on Disney Dream for those looking to get a good night’s sleep is one that’s not directly above or below any public spaces – namely, Deck 7, 8 or 9.

The Disney Dream ship layout allows for easy passenger flow – mostly thanks to its three elevator banks and smart design. Family and adult-only pools are located on Deck 11, while Deck 12 is home to the ship’s two adult-only restaurants – Palo and Remy. The rest of the dining venues on Disney Dream are spread across multiple decks, offering easy access to food and treats from almost every corner of the ship.

The Disney Dream Ship Stands Out for Its Design and Myriad Décor Details

The influence of the Mouse ranges from subtle to obnoxious. It's omnipresent but generally not overwhelming. "Hidden" Mickeys can be found just about everywhere on the ship: in artwork, on railings, on dinnerware, in cabins. What's endearing to some, though, might be overkill to others.

A few areas on the ship, though, were definitely overlooked. The "sports" deck, for example, offers a cute nine-hole mini-golf course and a basketball court but nothing strikingly groundbreaking or athletic.

Above all else, the line pays attention to details -- little things like putting lids on kids' drinks to minimize spills and pouring ketchup in the shape of Mickey's head in the dining rooms, and adding touches like a life preserver and pair of Donald Duck legs to the side of the funnel to make it look as if the loveable character has gotten himself stuck.

The Combination of Bahamas and Castaway Cay Is a Popular Disney Dream Itinerary

The Disney Dream cruise ship is perfect for warm weather destinations due to its multiple outdoor pools and ample sun decks. One of the most popular itineraries is Fort Lauderdale to Bahamas, which is offered as 3-, 4- and 5-night sailings. (The longer ones call at Cozumel or Disney’s private Bahamian destination, Castaway Cay.)

Other popular options aboard Dream include Western Caribbean and Mediterranean cruises from Barcelona.

Bottom Line

Fellow passengers.

Disney is strongly influenced by American and Canadian travelers, and its primary market, of course, is families (especially those with kids younger than 8). Beyond that, Disney has strong appeal for multigenerational travelers, and its superb spa, bar district and alternate dining facilities mean that adults of any age will find their own spaces onboard.

Disney Dream Dress Code

Daytime:  Disney Dream has two dress codes: Princess Formal and Pirate Casual. We're kidding, of course, but it's true that princess dresses and other costumes for kids (and fun-loving adults) are always in style. The actual dress code is casual during the day.

Evening:  At night, we'd call the dress code "family resort casual" most evenings. Nice shorts and jeans are allowed in the dining rooms. However, Disney Dream cruisers love to dress up, and themed evenings -- whether Pirate Night, formal-optional, or Caribbean -- are wholeheartedly embraced.

Dream's three- to five-night cruises feature one night each of pirate/tropical and formal-optional dress, with the remainder of the evenings being cruise casual. The dress code in the specialty restaurants Palo and Remy is fancier -- no shorts, capris, flip-flops or sneakers. Jeans are allowed in Palo but not Remy. A jacket (but not a tie) is required for men at Remy.

Not permitted:  Shorts, tank tops, swimwear and hats are not permitted in any dining venue. Jeans and women's capri pants are not acceptable in Remy.

Disney Dream Ship Guide

Disney Dream

The Disney Dream is the third ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet. The ship has 14 towering decks and the capacity to comfortably accommodate 4,000 passengers. The cruise liner was specially designed with families in mind, combining sleek style and convenient facilities with splashes of magic and cruise-industry firsts—like the splashtacular AquaDuck, the very first water coaster at sea. Ahoy, mateys! Subtle nautical motif adorns Disney Cruise Line ships, including traditional maritime symbols and lettering that only the conscientious sailor can spot. For example, on the carpet in the Disney Dream stateroom corridors, a ship’s wheel encompasses a map of the world and nautical flags spell out the name of the ship. Take a look at some additional Disney Dream ship facts.

  • The Disney ships are painted in Mickey Mouse-inspired colors – black hull, white superstructure, yellow trim, and two giant red funnels, each with the Disney Cruise Line Mickey Mouse logo.
  • Disney Cruise Line was the first cruise line to have yellow lifeboats, instead of the traditional regulation orange. However, Disney was granted special permission from the U.S. Coast Guard to paint the lifeboats yellow, to keep with the special color theming of the ship.
  • Disney ships are the only cruise ships to have four captains – the ship’s captain, Captain Mickey, Captain Hook, and Captain Jack Sparrow.
  • In the cruise industry first, most staterooms on Disney ships feature a split “bath-and-a-half” design, providing families the added convenience of a sink and tub/shower in one room and a sink and toilet in a separate room.
  • The ship’s horn on the Disney Dream is a prominent element of the “Sailing Away” deck party at the start of every cruise and is quite a musical talent. For example, the horns are able to sound the first musical line of “When You Wish Upon a Star” as well as the second line of the song (“makes no difference who you are”) plus, several measures of “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me),” “It’s a Small World,” “Be Our Guest,” “Hi Diddle Dee Dee (An Actor’s Life for Me)” “A Dream is a Wish Your Heart Makes” and “Do You Want to Build a Snowman”.
  • The Sorcerer Mickey Mouse on the Disney Dream’s stern is about 14 feet long. Constructed of stainless steel and fiberglass, it weighs approximately 2,500 pounds. The “ornament” was sculpted at Walt Disney Imagineering in California, structurally designed by engineers at Disney Cruise Line and Meyer Werft in Germany, manufactured in Sarasota, FL, finish-painted in Orlando, and then transported by ship to Germany for final installation on the Disney Dream. From sculpture to the stern of Disney Dream was a journey of about 15,000 miles for Mickey Mouse.
  • The Disney Dream’s Art Deco-style chandelier sparkles with thousands of hand-crafted crystal beads and glows with colorful glasswork. Crafted in Brixen, located in Northern Italy, the chandelier is 22 feet in diameter at the ceiling plate and comes down 13 feet from the ceiling. It is 24kt gold plated with a total of 88,680 Swarovski crystal beads ranging in size from 6mm to 12mm.
  • Every Disney Cruise Line ship has an atrium lobby statue celebrating a classic Disney character. Admiral Donald is striking a pose on the Disney Dream.
  • Most importantly, Walt Disney Imagineers elevated the AquaDuck water coaster on the Disney Dream in order to maximize space on the deck.
  • Guests can celebrate special occasions with a one-of-a-kind toast at nightspots dedicated to “bubbly.” French champagne-maker Taittinger crafted a “pink” just for Pink – Taittinger Prestige Rose is the signature sparkling.
  • At 1,115 feet, the Disney Dream is longer than the height of the Eiffel Tower in Paris (1,063 feet) and longer than the height of New York City’s famous Chrysler Building (1,047 feet).
  • Don’t worry about getting a chill! The swimming pools on Disney ships are heated when the water temperature drops below 75 degrees.

The Disney Dream, the third ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, set sail in 2011. The bow features none other than the captain himself, Captain Mickey, saluting all passing ships. The aft name plate is getting some last minute touch ups by Sorcerer Mickey and his mops. The interior design is art deco like many of the past great ocean liners.

They don’t call it the Disney DREAM for nothin’…

disney dream cruise capacity

The Disney Dream was the third ship to join the ever-expanding Disney Cruise Line fleet. (Seriously… have you heard that the NEW Disney Destiny was just announced ??) The Disney Dream introduced a new class of ships to the line — the Dream Class, of course! And if it’s YOUR dream to sail on this magical ship, then we hope you’ll join us as we explore everything you and your traveling crew need to know about cruising on the Disney Dream!

Disney Dream Overview

The Disney Dream took its Maiden Voyage with passengers on January 26, 2011. The Disney Fantasy, which followed with its first sailing in 2012, is the sister ship to the Disney Dream.

disney dream cruise capacity

So, in both its size and structure (with 14 Decks and 1,250 Staterooms) and passenger capacity (a whopping 4,000!), it is similar to the Disney Fantasy. That said, each ship boasts some of their own distinguishing features.

disney dream cruise capacity

These start right in the ship’s Art deco-inspired Atrium, where a golden statue of Admiral Donald Duck himself welcomes you aboard!

Of course, among additional varied features, the ship’s itineraries differ as well…

Disney Dream Destinations

The Disney Dream primarily offers Bahamian cruises departing from Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale, Florida .

disney dream cruise capacity

However, the summer of 2024 holds something very unique in store for passengers on the Dream, as the ship is destined for Europe following a Transatlantic voyage from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona ! Sailings over the summer include Mediterranean (including the Greek Isles), British Isles, Western Europe, and Norwegian Fjords (with one sailing including Iceland) cruises.

disney dream cruise capacity

When the Dream returns stateside, she’ll depart again from Fort Lauderdale to offer Bahamian and Caribbean cruises, and select sailings will include a stop at Disney Cruise Line’s NEW island destination, Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point (and, of course, Disney Cruise Line’s beloved Castaway Cay )!

Check out Disney Cruise Line’s itineraries for Summer 2025 here!

Disney dream entertainment.

Unique Disney Cruise Line entertainment kicks things off RIGHT AWAY as your cruise starts with a Sailing Away Deck Party!

disney dream cruise capacity

When I say “unique” that’s because the pals joining you in the entertainment throughout the voyage are none other than Disney characters!

Select sailings also present Disney Cruise Line’s famous Pirate Night (complete with FIREWORKS at sea!). And don’t forget: your CREW is invited to don all the Pirate-y garb you can pack in yer suitcase, matey!

disney dream cruise capacity

When it comes to entertainment options, Disney Cruise Line is best known for its Broadway-style productions — presented in the Walt Disney Theatre — that tie in characters, beloved stories, and treasured music from the Disney films.

disney dream cruise capacity

The three shows that guests can enjoy on the Disney Dream are Beauty and the Beast , The Golden Mickeys, and Disney’s Believe.

Currently exclusive to the Disney Dream, Beauty and the Beast brings the “Tale As Old As Time” to you live on stage!

disney dream cruise capacity

In addition to seeing the characters and hearing the songs you already know and love from the animated film, this production also includes two new pieces written by Alan Menken and Tim Rice from the live-action film.

While Beauty and the Beast puts the focus on one Disney film, Disney’s Believe and The Golden Mickeys bring together oodles and oodles of Disney stories, characters, and signature songs!  In Disney’s Believe , which Disney shares is a “spellbinding musical about a workaholic father who reconnects with his daughter through a little Disney magic,” you’ll see familiar friends from Peter Pan, Aladdin, Cinderella, The Lion King , and The Princess and the Frog.

disney dream cruise capacity

The Golden Mickeys is “a dazzling tribute to the enchanting movies of Walt Disney” (and it includes a red carpet pre-show!). Featured Disney films include — but aren’t limited to — Beauty and the Beast, The Lion King, Mulan, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, and Toy Story 2.

P.S. You can pay a visit to Preludes before the show to pick up some popcorn (or perhaps a cocktail) to enjoy in the theatre!

Disney Dream Water Features

Passengers of all ages can make a BIG SPLASH on Deck 11 (and even a bit higher…) of the Disney Dream! Let’s start with that part that’s “a bit higher…”

We’re talking about the Aqua Duck , the water coaster that made its debut on the Dream!

disney dream cruise capacity

To ride, guests enter on Deck 12. From here? As the Disney Cruise Line website shares, you’ll take a 2-person raft on “a wet and wild journey up, down, around and off the side of the ship, through the Forward Funnel—on a daredevil 4-deck drop.”

Be aware, though, that there is a height requirement of 42 inches or taller to ride (and single riders must be at least 54 inches).

Water areas for all ages include Donald’s Pool on Deck 11, as well as a wading pool on Deck 12.

disney dream cruise capacity

Specifically for the kiddos is Mickey’s Pool , and Nemo’s Reef in particular is a splash area for those 8 and under.

disney dream cruise capacity

Mickeys Slide , however, can be enjoyed by passengers ages 4 to 14.

The Quiet Cove Pool is reserved for guests over 18 years of age only, as is the Satellite Falls wading pool, complete with a cooling rain curtain. In the same area, adult guests can enjoy a cocktail at the Currents pool bar (the Waves bar is another option), or step inside the Cove Café for a specialty coffee.

Disney Dream Staterooms

The Disney Dream offers four categories of staterooms: Inside, Oceanview, Verandah, and Concierge. Many of the rooms feature Disney’s innovative split bathroom which allows more guests in a cabin the chance to get ready at one time.

disney dream cruise capacity

While each category boasts amenities such as premium mattresses and linens, a 22″ LCD flat-screen TV, a refrigerator, and a surprising amount of storage space, there are many more details to explore among the varying categories, so we’ve dedicated a page to those options here .

Looking for ALL the Stateroom details for the Disney Dream? Click HERE!

Disney dream dining.

As with all the other ships in the fleet, the Disney Dream presents a wide array of options, starting with a Disney Cruise Line signature: Rotational Dining!

disney dream cruise capacity

Rotational Dining means that guests have the chance to enjoy dinner at ALL THREE of the ships main dining rooms, each with their own theme and specialty menus on select nights. The best part is that, as you move to a different restaurant each evening, so do your servers! They “rotate” right along with you so they can get to know your group’s dining preferences.

disney dream cruise capacity

The three Rotational Dining restaurants on the Disney Dream are Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden , and Royal Palace.

Animator’s Palate is an innovative restaurant where the show is drawings coming to life on screens all around you. Undersea Magic immerses diners in the world of  Finding Nemo .

disney dream cruise capacity

Dinner at the Royal Palace features French and continental cuisine in the opulence of the classic Disney fairytales Cinderella, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast.

disney dream cruise capacity

At Enchanted Garden, guests enjoy their meal as the restaurant changes as flowers bloom and the “sky” fades from day to night.

disney dream cruise capacity

Be aware that Royal Palace and Enchanted Garden may also serve breakfast and lunch during a sailing, offering guests a full service option if they prefer not to dine buffet or quick service style.

A number of options are available throughout the day, as well. Cabanas hosts a massive buffet for both breakfast and lunch. Help yourself!

disney dream cruise capacity

Also on Deck 11, several Quick Service options serve classics like burgers, hot dogs, chicken strips and fries, pizza, and healthier fare like salads and sandwiches. These are all available at Flo’s Cafe , which is divided into three different stations: Luigi’s Pizza, Tow Mater’s Grill, and Fillmore’s Favorites.

disney dream cruise capacity

P.S. Don’t forget to follow up any and all of that with some soft-serve ice cream at Eye Scream Treats!

Additional treats — including scoops from a Gelato Bar —  are available for extra purchase at Vanellope’s Sweets & Treats , a charming spot themed to Disney’s Wreck-It Ralph .

disney dream cruise capacity

And did you know that ROOM SERVICE is available for breakfast or snacks 24 HOURS A DAY??  The vast majority of items are INCLUDED in the cruise price!

Disney Dream Adult Spaces

In addition to the Quiet Cove mentioned earlier, the Disney Dream offers more areas reserved just for grown-ups. These include the fine dining restaurant, Palo , which may be booked for dinner for an additional charge per adult.

disney dream cruise capacity

Additionally, the famous Palo Brunch is available for booking during sea days! This option is incredibly popular, so advance booking through your Disney Cruise Line account is recommended.

disney dream cruise capacity

Be aware, as well, that Palo does have a dress code. The Disney Cruise Line website states: “Formal or semi-formal attire is recommended. Also permitted is dress-casual attire with a polished look, such as dress pants, jeans in good condition, collared shirts, dressy tops and lifestyle shoes. For brunch at Palo and Palo Steakhouse, dress shorts are acceptable. Clothing such as T-shirts, swimwear and sports attire are not permitted.”

The Disney Dream is also home to Remy, another adults only option that adheres to a slightly more strict dress code than Palo: Jackets for men (or collared shirt for brunch) are required and no jeans, shorts, capri pants, sneakers, or open toed shoes.

disney dream cruise capacity

The cuisine is exceptional French fare and reservations are required.

By the way, before or after your special meal, you might stop at Meridian , a lounge overlooking the back of the ship!

Ready to relax with a drink, or maybe even do a little dancing? Adults can pay a visit to The District , featuring several lounges, each with their own distinct style and atmosphere. District Lounge , for instance, is a relaxing piano bar, while Evolution presents late-night entertainment like dancing, games, karaoke, and comedy shows.

Pink is a Wine and Champagne Bar, while Skyline Lounge immerses you in a “sleek sky bar” boasting views of some of the world’s most iconic skylines!

Meanwhile, sports fans can catch a game at Pub 687.

Adults might also opt to participate in a Mixology Class or Beverage Tasting Seminar for an extra fee. Featured liqueur and cocktail options include — but aren’t limited to — rum, tequila and margaritas, whiskey, champagne tastings, and more!

disney dream cruise capacity

Advance booking is highly recommended for these fun and VERY popular opportunities!

The Senses Spa & Salon offers a wide array of services and treatments. (And the Rainforest Room provides an especially relaxing oasis!) Select experiences are available for pre-booking, and you can stop by Senses to inquire about prices for the Rainforest Room and other treatments during your cruise. And the Fitness Center offers workout machines and classes.

And though this is not limited to adults, keep in mind that if you’d like to get a jog or two in, Deck 4 hosts a walking track!

Disney Dream Kids Clubs and Experiences

But what about the kids? Oh, don’t you worry… there are specific areas on the ship dedicated to children, offering experiences tailored for ages from infants to teens!

The It’s a Small World Nursery is available for ages 6 months to 3 years old (save for the Transatlantic cruise, during which the nursery welcomes ages 1 to 3 years old).

disney dream cruise capacity

Be aware that the Disney Cruise Line website states that “Reservations can be made on a first-come, first-served basis during the open house on Embarkation Day or anytime throughout your cruise. Childcare at “it’s a small world” nursery! is available at an additional fee.” Disney also emphasizes that space is limited.

Meanwhile, Disney’s Oceaneer Club AND Disney’s Oceaneer Lab are available for children ages 3 to 10. The Oceaneer Lab specializes in learning while having FUN!

disney dream cruise capacity

The Oceaneer Club features activities such as character experiences, storytime, and play areas. (There are also specific guided activities for the littlest ones, ages 3 and 4.)

disney dream cruise capacity

On the Dream, the Oceaneer Club features the following playful spaces: Andy’s Room (that’s Andy from Toy Story ), the Disney Infinity Game Room, Pixie Hollow , and Star Wars : Millennium Falcon.

disney dream cruise capacity

Keep in mind that Youth Activities counselors are present at all times in these spaces. Parents will want to know that spaces for your child can be pre-registered via your Disney Cruise Line account, and registration may also take place onboard the ship.

Tweens (ages 11 to 14) can gather at the Edge to hang out, watch movies, play games and make friends during group activities with fun Disney counselors and more. And you want to know something really cool? Edge is located in the ship’s Forward Funnel on Deck 13!

disney dream cruise capacity

Vibe offers cruisers ages 14 to 17 similar activities geared to their age group, or simply a place to chill. It even boasts its own sun deck on the Dream.

We’ve got one more thing to mention, though it’s not a club, per se. For an extra fee, your little Prince or Princess age 3 to 12 can get a makeover at Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique .

disney dream cruise capacity

Disney Princess, knight, and sea captain-themed packages are available… and there’s an exclusive makeover for Pirate Party Nights!

But we’re STILL not done… because children ages 3-12 can partake in a special tea party with Disney characters. Children get gifts including a jewelry box, tiara, bracelet, necklace, a Cinderella doll, and autograph book. Alternatively they can opt for a package including a cinch bag, sword, shield, pins, Duffy plush, and autograph book. The Disney Cruise Line site will have pricing information available when you book via your Disney Cruise Line account in advance.

Disney Dream Activities

Still want MORE to do 😉 ? That’s good, because the Disney Dream has GOT MORE! D Lounge, for example, is the place to be for family fun with events like game shows and trivia, dance parties,  and more.

disney dream cruise capacity

Catch a movie on the big screen at the Buena Vista Theatre ! You might choose to watch a Disney animated classic, or maybe a Star Wars or Marvel flick. You never know… your sailing just might feature a first-run Disney feature film at sea! “Funnel Vision” on the pool deck shows movies on the big screen, too.

disney dream cruise capacity

You can find basketball courts and ping-pong tables on Goofy’s Sports Deck. (My personal favorite option here? It’s 9-hole MINI GOLF!)

Want to explore all sorts of areas on the ship while SOLVING A MYSTERY, to boot? Then get ready to play Midship Detective Agency.  You and your fellow detectives will interact with “enchanted art” in locations all over the ship to gather clues and crack a case wide open! In fact, there are 3 cases to solve (including, but not limited to a MUPPETS-themed caper), so you can play several times — on your own or with your crew — if you like!

disney dream cruise capacity

And let’s not forget that throughout your cruise, you can meet, hug, get autographs from and pose for pictures with your favorite DISNEY PALS!

disney dream cruise capacity

Sailing with you are the Fab Five (that’s Mickey and the gang), Disney Princesses, friends from Frozen , and more! Be aware that, while all Character Greetings are included with your cruise, select Greeting times may require advance booking.

Seasonal Sailings

Depending on the time of year, you may find that a special seasonal cruise is in store! For instance, select sailings on the Dream offer a Marvel Day at Sea !

disney dream cruise capacity

And all ships in the fleet present Halloween on the High Seas in September and October, while Very Merrytime Cruises sail in November and December.

Disney Cruise Line Navigator App

Whew! As you can tell, there’s a LOT happening on the Disney Dream! To keep track of what’s happening when and where, be sure to download the free Disney Cruise Line Navigator app before your cruise.

This is where you can easily find ALL of the activities mentioned throughout this post, book select experiences, check out menus for the ship’s dining locations, and MUCH more!

Disney Dream Cruise Ship Capacity — What You Need to Know

By Lisa Gilmore 1 Comment

Let’s do a little Disney Cruise daydreaming, shall we?

disney dream cruise capacity

Disney Dream

Or perhaps you’re doing a little more than daydreaming… maybe you’re in the process of choosing and planning your first or next Disney Cruise! Either way, we’re going to chat today about the fourth ship to join the Disney Cruise Line fleet : the Disney Dream . Specifically, we’re looking at this ship’s capacity, and how it differs from Disney Cruise Line’s classic ships ( the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder ) and the Wish Class ships (the Disney Wish and the upcoming Disney Treasure ).

Knowing the ship’s guest capacity may be one factor that helps you determine which ship is the best option for you and your traveling crew.

The Disney Dream is the sister ship to the Disney Fantasy, and joined the fleet in 2012. For a “just the facts” look at the size, the Dream is 1,115 feet long and 216 feet high . (For comparison, the classic ships, the smallest in the fleet, are 984 feet long and 171.5 feet tall. The Disney Wish — the newest ship in the fleet — comes in at 1,119 feet long and 221 feet high.)

disney dream cruise capacity

Disney Princess icons

So, how does this impact carrying capacity? Well, the Disney Dream offers 1,250 staterooms and can carry 4,000 passengers ! (Again, for comparison, the classic ships can accommodate 2,713 passengers. Meanwhile, the Disney Wish can also carry 4,000 passengers.) 1,458 terrific Crew Members maintain the ship and serve and entertain her guests. So, in total, the Disney Dream can carry 5,458 people.

Those 1,250 Staterooms are broken down into the following broad categories and percentages :

  • 150 Inside Staterooms (12% of the total staterooms)
  • 1,100 Outside Staterooms (88% of the total staterooms)

Of those Outside Staterooms, 199 are Ocean View (featuring porthole windows), and 901 are Verandah rooms (including 21 suites).

Sooo , what I’m saying is… I think there’s plenty of room for me on an upcoming sailing. 😉 How about you? Before we go…. here’s a DFB Video that might also help you know which Disney Cruise ship is ideal for you!

Disney Dream Cruise Ship

disney dream cruise capacity

The Disney Dream offers a variety of itineraries, mainly sailing to the Caribbean and The Bahamas.

OVERVIEW / PLANNING TOOLS

disney dream cruise capacity

The maiden voyage for the Disney Dream was on January 26, 2011. This ship is 40% larger than the Disney Wonder and Disney Magic, with two additional decks and 1,250 staterooms. Each Inside stateroom has a “virtual” porthole showing rolling waves and Disney characters swimming by all in HD. One of the most popular features is the first-ever water roller coaster at sea – the Aqua Duck is 250 yards of transparent tubing that sends guests soaring over the top decks and, at one point – over the ocean!

disney dream cruise capacity

The Disney Dream offers the latest designs with an Art Deco atmosphere, contemporary staterooms, elegant restaurants, and fabulous entertainment. In addition to the kids’ clubs, there are nightclubs, lounges, and theaters for movies and live shows.

Take a 3D/VR Tour of Disney Dream Staterooms

The staterooms on the Disney Dream were designed especially for the needs of families. With this ship, an exciting new feature for inside staterooms was introduced – the addition of virtual portholes! These high-definition “portholes” have a 24-hour view of the ocean brought to you by a hi-def camera mounted outside the ship. Look closely – you may even see some of your favorite Disney characters float by!

Popular features from the other two ships, such as private verandahs and portholes with built-in seating, are also available.

DISNEY DREAM RESTAURANTS

Restaurants on the Dream include:

  • Animators Palate  (Main Dining)
  • Enchanted Garden  (Main Dining)
  • Royal Palace  (Main Dining)
  • Palo  (Signature Dining, adults only)
  • Remy  (Signature Dining, adults only)
  • Cabanas  (Quick Service / Table Service)
  • Flo’s Café (Quick Service)
  • Frozone Treats (Quick Service)
  • Eye Scream (Quick Service)
  • Vanellope’s Sweets and Treats (Ice Cream & other sweet treats)

Animator’s Palate

disney dream cruise capacity

TV screens on the walls around the restaurant, and the Finding Nemo characters will visit the tables to chat with guests during “Undersea Magic.” Guests will also experience “Animation Magic”, an interactive dinner show involving the guests in the animation shown during the meal. Guests are invited to draw Disney characters on placemats when they first enter the restaurant; servers will collect the completed drawings, which later appear as animation on screens around the room. The guests’ names will be shown and they will receive their drawings back with a special animator’s stamp added. The show uses special Disney-created software to bring the drawings to life, along with a brand-new musical score and never-before-seen scenes from Disney films.

Enchanted Garden

disney dream cruise capacity

Enchanted Garden serves breakfast, lunch, and dinner as a Main Dining restaurant. During the daytime meals, the ceiling is a bright blue sky. For the evening meal, the Enchanted Garden transforms itself from day to night with a starry sky full of constellations. The decor is made to feel like you are eating in the famous gardens of Versailles, France. White trellises, arches, and landscape artwork surround you. Lighting becomes part of the artwork, with the fixtures designed like glass flowers and light posts lining the center aisle. The glass flowers “bloom” at night and become colorful as the rest of the gardens open. The centerpiece is a seven-foot-tall fountain with a Mickey Mouse statue.

Royal Palace

disney dream cruise capacity

This restaurant serves French-inspired cuisine that’s fit for a king or queen. The decor is inspired by classic Disney Princess films, including hand-painted portraits of Aurora, Cinderella, Snow White, and Belle.

With its 270-degree ocean view from high atop the ship, Palo has the loveliest view of all restaurants on the ship. Palo is for adults 18 and over only, and reservations are required. This restaurant features outstanding Northern Italian cuisine prepared to order. Guests may only book ONE dinner at Palo in advance. However, if they make an online reservation for a Palo Dinner for the first night of their Disney cruise, they may also reserve a second Palo and/or Remy on one other night.

The view from Palo is spectacular due to the restaurant’s location on the ship, but please remember that the view is only “viewable” before sunset. Around the perimeter of Palo is a walkway, which at night is illuminated by bright lights. After sunset, the only things visible from Palo are those bright lights and a reflection of the restaurant’s interior. We would certainly not let this deter us from taking an available reservation later, but we like to let guests know that an earlier reservation is often easier to get and offers the addition of the spectacular view and sunset. A new feature on the Dream and Fantasy is the option to dine outside on Palo’s private teak deck.

Because your server does not follow you to this restaurant, a $40 cover charge per person is applied. In addition to dinner,  Palo brunch  is served at Palo on days at sea.

  • Join us for Dinner at Palo on the Disney Dream .

Dress code:  Guests are asked to “preserve the ambiance” of this fine dining venue. Dress pants, slacks, and collared shirts are recommended for men, and a dress, skirt, or pants and a blouse are recommended for women. Jeans may also be worn if in good condition (no holes). No tank tops, swimsuits, cover-ups, shorts, hats, cut-offs, torn clothing, t-shirts with offensive language and/or graphics, flip-flops, or tennis shoes are allowed.

disney dream cruise capacity

This adults-only premier dining location is on the Disney Dream and Fantasy. The French-inspired restaurant , named Remy after the star of the hit film  Ratatouille,   uses seasonal ingredients worldwide. Guests may only book ONE dinner at Remy in advance. However, if they make an online reservation for a Remy Dinner for the first night of their Disney cruise, they may also reserve a second Palo and/or Remy on one other night. Chef Arnaud Lallement from l’Assiette Champenoise, a Michelin two-star restaurant in France, and Chef Scott Hunnel from Walt Disney World’s signature restaurant  Victoria & Albert’s  have teamed up to create the new menu. Dinner starts with a signature chilled Champagne cocktail and features eight or nine small courses. Remy has ocean views from its top deck location and is decorated in Art Nouveau style. Images of the character Remy are hidden throughout the design. This meal has a $125 fee, plus an additional charge if you want wine pairings with your meal. Brunch is $75 per person.

Dress code at Remy on all cruises:

  • For men, a tuxedo or jacket (sports or suit jacket) is required with dress pants. Ties are optional.
  • A cocktail dress, pantsuit, or skirt/blouse is required for women.
  • Please, no jeans, shorts, capri pants, flip-flops, or tennis shoes

Cabanas is a Casual Dining restaurant that serves fresh food favorites. You can eat indoors or outdoors on the pool deck. Cabanas is a buffet that serves a few made-to-order food choices for breakfast and lunch. At dinner, the restaurant becomes a table-service dining room serving Main Dining specialties. Cabanas is most easily accessible from the Aft elevators.

DISNEY DREAM ENTERTAINMENT

Entertainment aboard the Disney Dream is offered in unique settings, and all options are designed to fill your days at sea with memorable experiences. Guests can watch stage shows in the beautiful Walt Disney Theatre, first-run movies in the Buena Vista Theatre, and participate in character meet-and-greets across the ship.

Adults Only

disney dream cruise capacity

Nightclubs and lounges on the Disney Dream bring the night to life with music, dancing, and socializing. From swanky to sporty, low-key to high-energy, you’ll find a hangout you’ll love amid the ship’s “adults-only at night” entertainment area, The District.

disney dream cruise capacity

  • Currents – open-air bar on Deck 13
  • Cove Café – an adults-only coffee bar serving specialty drinks, coffee beverage offerings or tea throughout the day and cocktails, wine, or a light bite in the evenings

For the Whole Family

disney dream cruise capacity

The D Lounge is the ship’s main hangout for games, dance parties, live entertainment, and family-friendly activities.

The  “it’s a small world”  nursery, based on the  theme park  attraction, is the perfect place for your little ones to play while you enjoy a grownups’ night out.

disney dream cruise capacity

The Oceaneer Club, one of the areas for children aged 3-12, has 4 separate areas that are themed as an Andy’s Room (from  Toy Story ), the Disney Infinity Game Room, Pixie Hollow, and  Star Wars:  Millennium Falcon.

One play area is themed around the Millennium Falcon from the  Star Wars  films. Kids will join the Rebel Alliance and help pilot the ship from the cockpit. They can go through hyperspace and jump to different points around the galaxy. There are also  Star Wars Rebels  gaming stations, themed crafts, games, activities, and showings of  Star Wars Rebels  on a large screen.

  • ARTICLE:   Riding the Original Star Tours on the Disney Dream

The Oceaneer Lab will take kids (ages 3-12) on a great adventure full of maps, constellations, and a stage for their greatest performances! This stage is one of the main gathering spaces in the Lab—perfect for kids to listen to stories and act out their own. Individual computer stations will allow them to enjoy interactive games.

disney dream cruise capacity

Disney movies will be shown on the 103-inch plasma TV; animated characters will come to life on this screen and interact with the kids. The main room begins a ship-wide adventure where kids will become explorers and hunt for clues. The Club and Lab are connected with a secure, kids-only hallway, so children can freely go between the two areas.

Edge and Vibe

Catering to this basic fact of family vacation life, Disney Cruise Line provides ultra-cool plush pads exclusively for teens and tweens who want a little independence. These trendy and tranquil areas offer an elite getaway for teens and tweens to set their vacation agenda, whether socializing with new friends, playing the latest video games, experiencing cutting-edge technology, or just chilling out.

disney dream cruise capacity

While the Edge experience aboard each pair of ships differs, the idea behind them is the same: Edge provides guests ages 11 to 14 with their special hangout to connect with other tweens worldwide. This interactive play space becomes teens ‘ favorite on-ship destination, equipped with high-tech entertainment, including flat-screen TVs, computers, and video games featuring daily guided activities.

disney dream cruise capacity

While the Vibe experience aboard each ship differs, the idea behind them is the same: Vibe provides guests ages 14 to 17 with their special place to break off from their families and connect with other teens worldwide. Designed with their interests in mind, each lounge has amenities and activities that will keep them engaged and entertained while encouraging them to mingle.

DISNEY DREAM RECREATION

The AquaDuck is the first-ever water coaster at sea. It features 250 yards of transparent tubing that sends riders twisting and turning over the top decks and out over the sea. This coaster is 765 feet long and features a four-deck drop. Riders must be 42″ tall to ride with someone else and 54″ tall to ride alone. If a rider is under 7 years old, they must ride with someone 14 or older.

disney dream cruise capacity

The Disney Dream has an open-air sports deck. This innovative complex is located on Deck 13 and has activities for all ages while the grown-ups join in or relax and enjoy the expansive sea views.

disney dream cruise capacity

  • Miniature Golf:  This 9-hole course was designed by Goofy and his son, Max, so you may find yourself trying to golf with a crooked club!
  • Virtual Sports Simulators:  Don’t want to play actual sports?  How about virtual ones?  Digital sports simulators provide virtual games such as soccer, golf, tennis, and basketball.
  • Sports Courts:  The full-size basketball court can be converted into a mini soccer field or volleyball court. Two mini-sized courts are also available for younger kids to play soccer or basketball.
  • Other activities  include ping pong, foosball tables, and a walking track around the sports deck. The walking track is .4 miles per lap – 8 laps equal a 5K race.

Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique

Kids ages 3-12 can visit Deck 10 for a Princess or Royal Knight makeover (Pirate makeovers will be available for all ages on Pirate Night).

disney dream cruise capacity

The Fitness Center onboard the Disney Dream is located on Deck 11/Forward and is a full-service facility that hosts aerobic, yoga, and Pilates classes and health seminars. Weight machines, ellipticals, and personal trainers ($89 for a 60-minute session) will keep you in great shape while on vacation! The 2,500-square-foot fitness center is open to guests ages 18 and older from 6:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., except when the ship is docked.

About the Disney Dream

After the success of the Disney Magic and the Disney Wonder , Disney Cruise Line decided to add to their fleet.

Want the Disney Dream Map?

Is that included, disney dream dining, main dining, about disney dream restaurants.

Like the other ships in the DCL fleet, the Disney Dream features "Rotational Dining."

To mix up your dinner dining enjoyment, guests rotate between three main restaurants, offering a  unique dining experience every night. Your server, assistant server and rest of dinner staff will move with you.

Here are the Disney Dream restaurants that are part of the rotational dining.

Enchanted Garden Restaurant on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Enchanted Garden

As you enjoy dinner in a setting that evokes a French conservatory, the ceiling will change colors, beginning with a bright blue color to represent day time, progressing to a golden red hue to mimic the setting sun, finally culminating in a sparkling starlight.

The light fixtures near your table actually "bloom" during your meal. It's the subtle effects of this dining room that make it charming.

Royal Palace Restaurant on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Royal Palace

Disney's imagineers have designed the Royal Palace to feel like you're playing an important part of a Disney fairytale.

The design is a reflection of settings from movies like Snow White , Sleeping Beauty , and Beauty and the Beast.

The wall murals are classically gorgeous. Spend a moment to gaze at each one.

Disney Wonder Animator's Palate

Animator's Palate

Disney animations come to life in our favorite of the main dining rooms. Heck, everyone loves it. We won't give away too much here, but check out my Animator's Palate tips here - make sure to read tips #43-46.

Casual Dining

Disney Dream Cruise Ship Cabanas Buffet

You'll probably become very familiar with Cabanas on your cruise, because it is the main buffet restaurant. Open for breakfast, lunch and dinner (for those who prefer to skip their rotational dining or are late to their Main Dining seating). So much variety here, they serve snacks, appetizers, desserts and entrees of every kind. Various selections will change from meal to meal, while others are constant fixtures on the menu. If you find a favorite dish, (Mickey Mouse pancakes anyone?) this can be comforting for finicky eaters, especially your little ones.

Disney Dream Preludes

EYE SCREAM TREATS

Every kid's dream come true: all the ice cream you can eat. And it's FREE! Hey, it's vacation, so I say go ahead and indulge your craving while on your Disney Cruise.

Along with soft-serve ice cream, you'll find plenty of toppings. My kids may have gone just  a little overboard with the all-you-can-eat (okay me too) but hey...it's vacation!

Disney Dream Frozone Smoothies

FROZONE TREATS

Disney Dream Flo's Cafe

There are three food stations as part of Flo's walk-up eatery: Luigi's Pizza, Fillmore's Favorites, Tow Mater's Grill.

Here you will find chicken, burgers, and pizza. It's a nice spot to grab a quick bite if you don't want to wander too far from the pool.

Disney Dream Senses Juice Bar

SENSES JUICE BAR

Just like its name implies, purchase fruit & vegetable juice combinations. Found next to Senses Spa and Salon.  Additional fees apply.

Disney Dream Vanellope's Sweets & Treats

VANELLOPE'S SWEETS & TREATS

If the free soft-serve of Eye Scream or ice cream & desserts from Cabanas aren't decadent enough for you, check out the goodies at Vanellope's.

Candy, waffle cones and gelato, and plenty of baked treats are available for additional fees.

Disney Dream Beverage Station

BEVERAGE STATION

The beverage station on Deck 11 is a popular place!

Why? Because the drinks here are FREE. Drink options include water, soda, juices, coffee, tea, milk, fruit punch, lemonade, and hot cocoa.

The bars and lounges on board will charge you extra for sodas, but it is free here. Check out tip #48 on my Disney Cruise Tips to enjoy more free soda.

Disney Dream Room Service Menu

ROOM SERVICE

Brought to your stateroom

Disney Dream's room service menu is surprisingly large. The options are available at any time of the night or day.

To get more advice about Disney Dream room service, read tips 54-59 of my 101 Disney Cruise Tips .

Exclusive Dining

Looking for an adult only meal? Or something that will make your little one beam for days on end? The Disney Dream offers exclusive dining opportunities to fulfill those wishes.

Palo Restaurant on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Image: Brownie Bites

This is a signature Disney dining  experience and it is available only for adults.

In our opinion, the Northern Italian menu is worth the premium fee you pay for it. When you top off the delicious kids-free meal with gorgeous seascapes, you have a brunch or dinner to remember.

Reservations are required and there's a dress code as well, please  refer to our Disney Cruise packing list for suggestions on what to wear.

Remy Restaurant on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

This is the Disney Dream's finest dining experience and it is available only for adults.

Dinner at this Parisian themed restaurant is made up of multiple tasting courses. Remy also offers a champagne brunch, a 5-course dessert menu, and Petites Assiettes de Remy featuring small plates and fine wine (only available on the first night of your cruise).

As with Palo, reservations are required and the dress code is mandatory.  Refer to our Disney Cruise packing list for clothing suggestions.

Royal Court Royal Tea on Disney Dream

Royal Court Royal Tea

Deck 3 at Royal Palace

Little princes or princesses (3 to 12) can join their favorite Disney characters for a tea party. While this tea party has an additional fee, it includes a chance to meet one-on-one with the princesses and take home a few royal gifts.

DISNEY DREAM ENTERTAINMENT

Every evening on the Disney Dream, an exciting entertainment event will be put on in the Walt Disney Theatre.

Guests get to witness performances that are truly Broadway-level in quality. Also frequenting the stage are musicians, jugglers, ventriloquists, hypnotists, or comedians. Sometimes they put up a feature movie on a massive screen. The movie is usually a Disney-owned film that is new or due to theaters.

The Walt Disney Theatre is located on Decks 3 and 4 Forward.

Beauty and the Beast the Musical on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Beauty & the Beast

It's a tale as old as time, but we love watching it over and over. Especially when it is set as an enticing musical production.

In this musical, t he characters from the live-action Beauty and the Beast film are portrayed by real-life actors on stage. If you know the movie, you'll get to sing along with the familiar songs.  This show is only shown on Disney Dream and nowhere else in the DCL fleet.

The Golden Mickeys - shown on Disney Dream cruise ship

The Golden Mickeys

Celebrate classic Disney movies. It's a Hollywood-worthy award show.

Note: some sailings (like some Alaska) don't have fireworks displays.

Meet and Greets

I guess we're just big kids, because some of our favorite moments on a  Disney Cruise is meeting our favorite characters.

They mix up the times and characters to meet each day, so keep your eye on the DCL app each day.

There are various stories and randomized possible endings.

Disney Magic: Buena Vista Theatre

Buena Vista Theatre

Disney Dream: Funnel Vision

Funnel Vision

Funnel Vision is a giant screen that shows Disney movies while you chill on Deck 9 or swim in Goofy’s Pool.

Called “Funnel Vision” because it’s mounted onto the forward funnel of the ship.

It's a huge LED screen, totally state of the art.

DISNEY DREAM POOLS

Goofy Pool on Disney Magic

Mickey's Pool & Slide

Shaped like a Mickey head, this freshwater kids pool is just 2 feet deep, making it a safe place for little ones (ages 3 and up) to splash.

Close by is spiraling Mickey's slide. The slide is approximately "one deck tall" and is available to kids 4-14 years old and in the range of 38"-64" tall.

Donald's Pool on Disney Dream

Donald's Pool

Rectangular in shape, Donald's pool sits directly in front of the big Funnel Vision screen. It will be a busy hub on days at sea, with deck chairs surrounding it.

AquaDuck on Disney Dream Cruise Ship

Truly a Disney innovation, the AquaDuck was the first "roller coaster at sea".

To ride, start at Deck 12, climb a flight of stairs to Deck 16 (the highest point you can reach on the ship.)

Sit down in an inflatable plastic raft and get launched for a wet ride through a 765-foot-long clear tube track that will have you circle the ship.

Single riders must be at least 54" tall, but children that are 42" tall can ride with someone ages 14 and up.

Disney Dream: Nemo's Reef

Image: Youtube

Nemo's Reef

Splash pad with a fun Finding Nemo theme for kids ages 3 and under. Water spurts all over; coming up from the floor and jetting from replicas of characters from the movie.

Disney Dream: Funnel Puddle Pool

Disney Dream: Quiet Cove Pool

This adult-only area is reserved to be a quiet sanctuary for grownups to escape the kids...err, relax and unwind. It's much quieter and they serve cocktails. Must be age 18+.

Disney Dream: Satellite Falls Pool

Satellite Falls

My escape literally every day at sea. I took a book and loved just gazing out at the endless horizon of sea. A shallow pool surrounded by comfortable deck chairs - with your choice of sun or shade. Must be age 18+.

DISNEY DREAM CONCIERGE

Concierge lounge.

Concierge guests will enjoy this luxurious, chic escape from the rest of the ship.

The Concierge Level Lounge allows guests to access the internet, drink a cocktail, watch news or sports on a huge TV, and partake of complimentary beverages and food served throughout the day.

Concierge Sundeck

Connected to the Concierge Lounge, you'll find a sundeck available only to Concierge level guests.

Head up a short flight of stairs from the Lounge and you'll find a premium sunbathing location unavailable to the rest of your shipmates. Perched above the Quiet Cove Pool, it's a quiet area for sunning and relaxing.

It has plenty of shade if you want or sun if you prefer in comfortable chairs. You can also step out onto Satellite Falls if desired, and simply pop back into the private area. If you want a quick snack, just walk the steps down to the Lounge.

Towels and sunscreen are provided.

OTHER ONBOARD SERVICES

Health center.

The Health Center is available when you're feeling sick, need first aid or have a medical emergency.

The clinic keeps regular daily hours to offer care for non-emergencies. If you have an emergency, the ship has a doctor and nurse on call 24/7.

Tender Lobbies

Guest services.

Got a question or request? This is your place. I have found the crew that manages Guest Services to be very responsive and caring.

They can help you make spa appointments or dining reservations, plan your vacation by explaining activities, ship amenities, and the ship schedule.

Questions with your bill are handled here. You may also request a free crib or diaper genie here. Book these when you first arrive to make sure you get one.

Port Adventures Desk

Onboard sales desk.

Plan and book future Disney Cruises. Why would you book a Disney cruise while on a Disney cruise, you ask? You’d be surprised by how many people do!

It’s all about the perks. It’s pretty much the only way to get a Disney cruise for a discounted price.

Here’s the low down:

  • 10% discount on prevailing rates on your next cruise (concierge-level excluded)
  • Stateroom credit of $100 (3-6 nights) or $200 (7-night cruises or longer)
  • Reduced Deposit on 7-night sailings or longer

You don’t have to decide on a date while on the ship. Just put a $250 deposit down as a placeholder for a future cruise and sail within the next 24 months.

Laundry Facilities

Decks 2,5,6,7,8

The Dream’s self-serve laundry facilities are located on the following decks:

  • Deck 2 Forward
  • Deck 6 Forward
  • Deck 7 Forward

Disney Dream cruise ship

Disney Dream deck plan review at CruiseMapper provides newest cruise deck plans (2024-2025-2026 valid floor layouts of the vessel) extracted from the officially issued by Disney Cruise Line deckplan pdf (printable version).

Each of the Disney Dream cruise ship deck plans are conveniently combined with a legend (showing cabin codes) and detailed review of all the deck's venues and passenger-accessible indoor and outdoor areas. A separate link provides an extensive information on Disney Dream staterooms (cabins and suites), including photos, cabin plans and amenities by room type and category.

Disney Dream (2010-built, last refurbished in 2020, scheduled refurbishment in 2024 September-October) is the first of the two DREAM-class Walt Disney cruise ships - together with  Disney Fantasy . Each of them is ~40% bigger in comparison to the older Disney ships  Magic  and Wonder .

The Disney Dream cruise ship deck plan shows a total of 1250 staterooms for 2500 passengers (max capacity is 3500) served by 1458 crew-staff. The boat has 14 decks (9 with cabins), 10 dining options, 11 lounges-bars-clubs, 3 swimming pools, 7 outdoor Jacuzzis (whirlpool hot tubs), 14 elevators.

In 2017, Disney Dream ship's theater programming was upgraded by adding the Broadway-style stage production "Beauty and the Beast". The new musical show is based on  Walt Disney's 1991 animation and just like in the movie, it's about adventure, romance, and magic. The new theater show's debut is on November 6, 2017 (itinerary Nov 6-10) during the 4-day Bahamas cruise roundtrip from Port Canaveral (Orlando, Florida) . The ship's other signature theater evening shows are named "The Golden Mickeys" and "Disney’s Believe". Walt Disney launches a new live-action movie "Beauty and the Beast" with theater premieres on March 17, 2017. In the new musical film, the leading roles are played by Emma Watson ("Belle") and Dan Stevens (The Beast / Prince),

We Just Returned from a Disney Dream Cruise, and Here’s What It Was Like

We just returned from a Disney cruise and share what it was like in our honest Disney Dream cruise ship review.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

Share this post:

Debuting in 2011, the Disney Dream is the first of two ships in the Dream Class, with the Disney Fantasy as its sister ship. This 4,000-passenger capacity cruise ship offers something for all ages, making it a vacation suitable for generational families or even adult-only getaways. After just returning from a 4-night sailing on the Disney Dream to the Bahamas, we are ready to give you our honest review of what we loved, hated, and everything in between from our vacation. Read on for our Disney Dream cruise ship review.

Our Honest Disney Dream Cruise Ship Review

Dining on disney dream.

Disney Dream offers a variety of dining options. From the main dining rooms, to other casual options like the buffet or pool deck eats, to adult-only dining, you certainly won’t go hungry during your cruise.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

Rotational Dining

Disney Cruise Line approaches its main dining room experience differently than any other cruise line, which I happily embrace. Disney implements a rotational dining experience, with guests rotating between three themed dining rooms throughout the sailing.

Not only do the guests rotate between dining rooms each night, but so do the wait staff. The servers get to know you and your preferences, building relationships with cruisers by the end of the cruise and adding a heightened attention to detail.

There are three main dining rooms on the Disney Dream: Animator’s Palate, Enchanted Garden, and Royal Palace. Each restaurant offers different menus, with appetizers, soups and salads, main courses, and desserts. Options range from French specialties like escargot and duck breast to lighter fare options such as ahi tuna and avocado towers and pan-seared sea bass.

We enjoyed all our meals in the three main dining rooms. Everything was fresh, warm, and nicely presented while packing great flavors.

disney dream cruise capacity

While I know that most cruise lines do not provide entertainment during dinner, Disney is, well, Disney. Having been on other DCL ships , I know this does occur, such as the Frozen show in the Arendelle dining room on the Disney Wish or the Rapunzel dinner show on the Disney Magic. So, we were bummed to find out that these dining rooms did not offer entertainment during dinner.

Dinners in these restaurants are long, and while some cruisers may enjoy the “normal” dining experience, the lack of entertainment left for an impatient toddler by the time we were ready for dessert.

Other Complimentary Dining Options

Besides the three rotational main dining rooms, Disney Dream does offer a few other options that are included in the cruise fare .

Unfortunately though, for cruisers who do not wish to attend the long main dining room dinner, Cabana’s, the buffet venue located on Deck 11, is not open for dinner. The only other dinner options available on the ship will be room service (complimentary) or Tow Mater’s Grill. This section of the pool deck food offerings within Flo’s Cafe offers chicken tenders, burgers, and hot dogs.

disney dream cruise capacity

Cabana’s is an excellent option for breakfast and lunch. Any seafood lover should not miss the daily all-you-can-eat crab claws and peel-and-eat shrimp on the lunch buffet. Fresh, made-to-order omelets are available during breakfast hours, and the cruise staff will even bring them to your table when they’re ready.

However, Cabanas’ layout can be frustrating, as it is one long buffet line on either side of the venue instead of specific stations. This led to long lines, sometimes out to the pool deck during peak hours. We didn’t have a problem finding a table during our cruise, but I could see this being a problem during popular dining hours.

For cruisers who want to stay in their bathing suits all day, Flo’s Cafe will be your lunch spot. Offering pizzas, chicken, burgers, salads, sandwiches, and fruit, everyone is bound to find something here. Nothing at Flo’s Cafe blew us away. While there was nothing wrong with the food here, we were left missing Mickey’s Festival of Foods , which debuted on the Disney Wish.

disney dream cruise capacity

Soft drinks such as coke products, ginger ale, and vitamin water are included in your cruise fare on Disney Cruise Line. And you can find 24/7 stations, including tea, coffee, and water on either side of the pool deck, as well as in Cabanas during open hours.

Eye Scream offers poolside soft serve ice cream, with chocolate and vanilla served daily in addition to rotational flavors. We grabbed an ice cream cone every time we walked by because who doesn’t love ice cream?

Specialty Dining

Palo and Remy are the two specialty dining options onboard the Disney Dream, both adult-exclusive. Both are located on Deck 12, Aft, and the views from these venues are unbeatable, as is the service. If you think Disney Cruise Line service, in general, is a step above the rest, prepare to be blown away at Palo and Remy.

Palo offers brunch and dinner. I would argue that Palo Brunch will be the best $50 you spend during your vacation. Brunch offers an all-you-care-to-enjoy menu with options ranging from egg varieties, pancakes and waffles, soups, pizzas, and main entrees such as lasagna or sirloin steak.

disney dream cruise capacity

Brunch is only offered on select days of your sailing, typically your sea day. I highly recommend snagging a reservation if possible; you will not regret it! Most importantly, be sure to come with an empty stomach. You’ll be stuffed by the end! The ahi tuna, eggs benedict, and the parmesan-crusted chicken breast were the highlights of our meal.

Palo Dinner offers a $50 prix-fixe 4-course meal or a la carte ordering. Palo specializes in Italian fare. We did not dine at Palo for dinner this sailing, but we have on previous sailings. If brunch isn’t your thing, I can assure you that dinner will be just as good! The most popular Palo dish is the chocolate souffle, which you must order early to give time for preparation.

Remy, the second specialty dining venue on Disney Dream, offers two set menus designed by two highly accredited chefs of Michelin Star caliber. Both menus cost $135 per person, with optional wine pairings available. For cruisers looking for that exquisite fine-dining experience, look no further than Remy.

disney dream cruise capacity

Additionally, Cove Cafe on Deck 11 and Vista Cafe on Deck 4 offer specialty coffees for purchase and complimentary pastries. Coffee drinkers should plan to find themselves in these cafes, as the complimentary coffee falls flat. After one cup of the provided coffee, I went to Vista Cafe every morning for a latte. Be sure to get the coffee punch card and get it stamped; your 6th coffee will be free!

Finally, Pub 687, an adults-only venue within The District on Deck 4, also offers snacks and small bites for purchase at an affordable price. Typical bar food such as buffalo wings and pretzels are available. I recommend the buffalo wings, which are $4 for 5 wings and very tasty!

disney dream cruise capacity

Overall, we enjoyed the food on the Disney Dream, with standouts being Palo Brunch and Royal Palace. Next time, I’d skip the burgers from Flo’s Cafe, and you’ll never see me drinking the complimentary coffee again.

Disney’s focus on entertainment shines with theater shows and onboard activities, but the pool deck leaves something to be desired. You won’t find poolside entertainment such as belly flop contests, high-energy music, and dance parties onboard the Disney Dream.

Instead, you’ll find Funnel Vision, a giant screen on DCL’s iconic funnel playing an array of Disney movies from sunrise to well into the night. There’s also quiet areas with loungers to relax and read a book.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

The Mickey and Donald’s Pools on Deck 11 midship are the two main pools onboard. These aren’t very big or deep and end up just being a splash zone full of children. This isn’t the spot for a relaxing day in the pool. There are loungers around both pools, but cruisers looking for a specific spot should plan to arrive at the pool deck early, especially on sea days . Deck 12 does have additional chairs and loungers as well.

Further, both pools have retractable covers, converting them into part of the pool deck for all deck party entertainment. This is a great way to create space during deck parties, but it also leaves the pools with weird operating hours. A hot tub is situated against the floor-to-ceiling glass windows of the pool deck, but again, it will be full of children.

Nemo’s Reef Splash Pad is the perfect spot for families with little cruisers, even allowing children to wear swim diapers. While more and more cruise ships are incorporating an area for non-potty-trained babies and toddlers, this is a huge selling point for Disney Cruise Line.

The entire splash pad is also covered, keeping the kids out of the sun—a huge bonus! We spent 80% of our pool deck time in the splash pad with our two-year-old, and he is still talking about it daily.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

The Quiet Cove Pool is located in the adults-only area of the pool deck, Deck 11 forward. This area features two hot tubs, a pool, and a sitting area with swim-up access to one half of the Cove Bar. We love this adults-only pool area, as we felt it was plenty big and never crowded. However, we did sail during a popular spring break week, with many passengers being families with young children.

Adults looking for a quiet space should choose to relax in this area, as the loungers are soft and cushioned when compared to the average patio chair on the main pool deck. Plus, there won’t be any children here.

Other Pool Deck Attractions

Mickey’s Slide is also located on Deck 11, adjacent to the main pools. This body slide is available to children ages 4-14 with a minimum height of 38” and a maximum height of 64”.

The AquaDuck, the main pool deck attraction, is on Deck 12 and has a height requirement of 42”, or 54” for single riders. Board the raft on this water coaster designed by Huey, Duey, and Louie for a thrill and a 360-degree view of the ocean.

The AquaDuck is fun, but the wait times on sea day sometimes were over an hour long. It took three attempts for us to ride the AquaDuck with a short wait time. This was when we got back onboard from Castaway Cay early to a nearly empty ship.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

Similar to the pool, the AquaDuck had odd hours. There were days it didn’t open until noon. For those with late dining, I suggest trying to ride the AquaDuck around 5 PM, when early dinner guests are getting ready for dinner. For early dinner guests, be the first in line when the queue opens, or try to ride the water coaster during a port day. If this attraction is a priority for you, be sure to check the times on your daily navigator.

Goofy’s Sports Deck on Deck 13 Aft is an open-air sports court featuring basketball hoops and a space for organized pickleball games. A nine-hole mini golf course designed by Goofy and his son Max wraps around the aft of the ship and is fun for the whole family! Two sports simulators offer football, golf, hockey, and baseball simulations for 30 or 60-minute sessions. These is an additional cost for these simulators, and guests must reserve in advance.

Overall, the various pool areas on Disney Dream have something for everyone.

Onboard Activities

The Disney Cruise Line app holds your daily navigator, providing times and locations for all onboard activities. Standard cruise activities fill in these time slots, but of course with a little Disney flare to them. A stand-out for Disney Cruise Line is there are no casinos onboard any DCL ships.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

Character meet-and-greets are located around the ship at practically any point throughout the day. Characters like Mickey, Minnie, Donald, Daisy, and Goofy are available daily, while other characters like Ariel, Belle, Princess Tiana, and Captain Hook are only available on select days.

Guests can either book the Royal Gathering (a free pass for line entry to meet all the princesses at once), pay for the Royal Tea Party to meet the princesses, or simply wait in line at the character’s scheduled time.

If you are used to Disney theme park lines like we are, these lines may not seem so bad. But lines can and will get long, especially for popular characters. Plan to spend 20 to 30 minutes waiting in line to meet each character, and be sure to arrive before the scheduled time. The cruise staff will cut off line entry at a certain point.

Shopping onboard combines luxury items with popular Disney souvenirs. Disney cruisers take their merchandise seriously, and there is no restocking while out at sea. If you see something you like, be sure to buy it as it may be gone when you go back. Mickey’s Mainsail was crowded on embarkation night, but crowd levels eased up as the days went on.

Several trivia sessions take place throughout the day as well. While most are Disney-themed, there are some general trivia options such as sports, decades, or music. Craft sessions are also available daily, creating souvenirs such as postcards, memory pages, ornaments, and drink koozies. Both crafts and trivia offer sessions for families and adults only. We decorated drink koozies during an adults-only craft and finally received a medallion for winning Star Wars trivia!

Disney Dream cruise ship review

The Midship Detective Agency is a family-friendly adventure putting you in the middle of the action. Hubs are centrally located on Deck 5 and Deck 2, where guests will grab a pamphlet and a pencil and follow the instructions to solve clues around the ship. My son was finally old enough to help with this, and we had a great time!

On Deck 4, The Buena Vista Theater shows the most recent Disney movies that are in theaters at home. Movies like Ms. Marvel, The Little Mermaid, and Elemental were playing during our sailing.

Beverage tasting seminars and mixology classes are available throughout the cruise at various locations for an additional fee as well. Whiskey, beer, wine, and tequila tastings are just some of the offerings.

We Tested Out the Disney Dream Rainforest Room - Was It Worth It?

Senses Spa on Deck 12 offers a complimentary gym, as well as additional charged services such as manicures, pedicures, haircuts, facials, massages, and the highly sought after Rainforest Room experience. In our Rainforest Room review , we go into detail about everything there is to offer. Spoiler alert: we loved it!

Family and adult game shows, bingo, dance parties, cooking demonstrations, and towel-folding classes round out the daily activities. I’d bet to say that no one in your party will be bored on this ship!

Kids’ Clubs

The kids’ clubs onboard Disney Cruise Line are undoubtedly the best at sea. Best of all, they’re free for children 3 and up! These are excellent ways for the kids to have fun so the adults can have some fun of their own (I’m referring to you, Palo Brunch!). The kids’ clubs are typically open until midnight, later, with select planned activities.

Children ages 3-10 will go to the Oceaneers Club, where they can play in Andy’s Room from Toy Story, fly the Millennium Falcon, do crafts in Pixie Hollow, or play Disney’s Infinity. Three- and four-year-olds have set counselors with organized activities, while the older kids have access to whatever they want! All children must be potty trained to attend the Oceaneers Club.

disney dream cruise capacity

Ages 11-14 will attend Edge, a space within the famous Disney Cruise Line funnel, allowing tweens to hang out, play board games and video games, or participate in group activities such as scavenger hunts.

Teens ages 14-17 hang out in Vibe, a half-club, half-pool deck area they will never want to leave. Two hot tubs and outdoor loungers are accessible on the exterior, while the interior offers video games, TV, a dance floor, and organized activities.

All venues do have open house hours, meaning that adults and kids can utilize the spaces. I highly recommend attending the open houses on embarkation day to familiarize your children with the clubs. This will make them less hesitant to attend the clubs when you plan adult-only activities! We attended open houses for all the venues, and the youth activities staff could not have been better!

Lastly, there is the It’s a Small World Nursery. Children aged 6 months to 3 years can attend the nursery, but there is a charge. For $9 an hour, this was our best money spent onboard. Nursery staff will play, feed, change diapers, and put even the littlest cruisers to sleep, so parents don’t have to worry.

Our nursery staff was fantastic, sending us messages through the app for all updates, such as when my son fell asleep, woke up, ate, or had a diaper change.

Nightly Entertainment

The nightly entertainment onboard the Disney Dream should not be missed. Broadway-style shows occur in the Walt Disney Theater on Deck 3, and there’s live music nightly in the atrium. Throughout our sailing there were vocalists, pianists, and violinists, all fantastic!

Disney Dream cruise ship review

Disney Cruise Line’s original productions, The Golden Mickeys and Believe, pay tribute to classic Disney movie favorites while telling heartwarming stories along the way. Further, Disney’s Beauty and the Beast adaptation is the best show I have seen at sea. Do not miss this show!

Be sure to get there early for these shows. The Walt Disney Theater is a large theater, but fills up quickly. The doors opened approximately 30 minutes before showtime. We arrived 25 minutes before each show and always found good seats. There will be a queue waiting outside the theater for the doors to open; use this time to have someone stand in line while you grab popcorn from Preludes!

The pirate night deck party takes place outside on Deck 11. Mickey and the gang take on Captain Hook and Mr. Smee in this fun, quirky deck show. While visible from Deck 12 as well, a good viewing spot will be hard to come by if you don’t get there early. A large section in the front of the stage is roped off just for the kids to sit, which is guarded by youth activities staff.

If you’ve sailed other cruise lines, Disney Dream’s nightlife may seem lackluster, apart from the shows. You won’t find raunchy comedians or late-night club scenes on this ship.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

Though, there are adults-only game shows, late-night happy hours at the bars and lounges, and activities like adults-only trivia and silent disco parties happening nightly. However, they aren’t always the most attended activities. Many of these events occur between 9 PM and midnight, also prime time for families to put their kids to bed.

I understand why Disney doesn’t put ample effort into late-night adults-only entertainment, but it may be a turn-off for kid-less cruisers.

Bars and Lounges on Disney Dream

The District on Deck 4, Aft, is home to most of the bars and lounges onboard the Disney Dream.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

As avid sports fans and primarily beer drinkers, we found ourselves navigating to Pub 687 frequently. The 687 Pale Ale is brewed exclusively for the cruise line, and we enjoyed it! Pub 687 offers over 10 beers on tap, while all other bars around the ship will only have 2 or 3 taps to choose from.

For any beer drinkers, the souvenir beer mug is worth the investment. The mug is available to purchase for $16.50. Then throughout the cruise, you can purchase 21 oz. beers in it for the price of a 16 oz. beer. This also works during happy hours for double the savings!

Pink Wine and Champagne Bar offers elegant cocktails, most tasting classes, and live music. It’s a must-stop for any wine drinker! Evolution, the nightclub venue, offers a full bar and a few specialty cocktails. I ordered a strawberry margarita while in Evolution for bingo, and it was refreshing but nothing special. Skyline Bar and District Lounge are also located within the District.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

Waves Bar and Currents are the pool deck bars, but you must walk away from the pool to find them. You won’t find any swim-up bars or poolside drinks here. But, there are crew members walking around constantly taking drink orders from anyone in a pool lounger.

D Lounge is the main activity lounge on Deck 4, midship. Trivia, crafts, game shows, and even a cooking demonstration were just some of the activities that occurred in the D Lounge.

For this Disney Dream cruise ship review, we stayed in stateroom 9079. This deluxe inside cabin was located just aft of the midship elevators.

Our stateroom was large when compared to many mega-ships’ inside rooms, but it did lack storage space. Two closets to hang clothes and three small drawers were the only options for putting items out of sight. For our four-night sailing, this was fine, but it could pose a problem for longer sailings.

disney dream cruise capacity

Immediately entering the stateroom, the doors to the split bathroom are on the right. One bathroom consists of a shower and sink, while the second bathroom has a toilet and sink. This is my favorite part about Disney Cruise Line staterooms. They certainly focused on families when designing these bathrooms. This setup was extremely helpful to have when my toddler needed to use the bathroom while someone was in the shower.

Beyond the bathroom are the desk and sofa, which converts into a twin bed at night. One step further was the queen size bed up against the far wall. The desk was spacious enough to sit our belongings on top while also leaving space for me to get ready. It also has two 110V outlets and two 220V outlets.

disney dream cruise capacity

Above the bed was the magical porthole. This porthole brought outside views to this interior stateroom via a webcam outside the ship. Disney characters even made surprise appearances throughout the day. The bed was comfortable; we slept great! The sofa bed was perfect for my toddler but certainly too small for my 6-foot husband.

Disney Cruise Line beds do not separate into two twin-sized beds like many other major cruise lines, so keep that in mind when booking. Either side of the bed had two very small shelves. This was large enough for an iPad to sit atop it, but not much else. Additionally, a 110V and 220V outlet was below each shelf.

Disney Dream Stateroom Review

We were comfortable in our room during our sailing. The room was immaculate and spacious enough for our family. Its nautical decor really immerses you in the being at sea feeling. Our stateroom attendant was fantastic as well. He even lined up my son’s stuffed animals on his bed every night, folded his clothes, and left him goodies.

Overall Disney Dream Cruise Ship Review

Between the onboard activities, nightly entertainment, shopping, and various restaurants, there is plenty to do at any time of day onboard the Disney Dream. We enjoyed the food, but the highlight of our trip was the nightly entertainment. These Broadway-caliber singers and dancers are extremely talented, being something you do not want to miss!

I thought there was a good variety of family activities versus adult-only activities, but specifically, the adult nightlife scene was lacking. Anthony, our cruise director, was present at many events, including all shows. Between him and the activities staff, the energy levels onboard the Dream screamed fun.

Disney Dream cruise ship review

The Disney Dream is a great ship for families or adults looking for a relaxing vacation with white glove service and a touch of Disney. Though, this may not be the ship for adults looking to let loose on a weekend getaway . There are no casinos, drink packages , or late-night clubs.

For us, Disney Dream offers the vacation of a lifetime. It’s the perfect mix of Disney and relaxation without the hustle and bustle of the parks.

Currently, the Disney Dream sails out of Fort Lauderdale, FL, offering a mix of 3-, 4-, and 5-night sailings to the Bahamas and Disney’s Castaway Cay . In the summer, the Disney Dream heads across the Atlantic to sail European itineraries.

Disney Cruise Ships by Size [2024] with Comparison Chart

Disney Cruise Ships by Size [2024] with Comparison Chart

By jeremy camosse may 2021.

All Disney Cruise Ships by Size, from biggest to smallest. See how your DCL ships stacks up on the list!

Below you'll find a complete list of Disney Ships by Size . From their smallest ship, the Disney Wonder, to the largest Disney cruise ship duo, the Disney Wish and Treasure.

While some cruise lines differ in size by a factor of 5x between their biggest and smallest ships, Disney has less variance . It also has significantly fewer ships.

Once completed, the Disney Treasure will be the fleet's 5th ship. Compare that to Carnival and Royal Caribbean's massive fleets (totalling roughly 60 ships).

Disney Biggest vs Smallest Cruise Ship Chart

However, the difference in size between the Wish Class of ships vs Dream Class is worth noting. The Wish and Treasure are roughly 72% larger than the Wonder and Magic! If you're in the "bigger is better camp," you'll want to opt for the Wish Class.

Here at Gangwaze, we don't discriminate when it comes to our Disney ship size. Sometimes we need a bit more breathing room. Think... big family reunions. While other times we prefer a cozier cruise.

First, a little clarification is needed before checking out our sizing chart below. We're comparing Disney cruise ships by size using the metric, " Gross Tonnage ." This always causes a few shoulder shrugs in our community. We're not simply talking, "weight." The definition is a bit nuanced. And by "nuanced, we mean "boring." Here it is nonetheless.

GROSS TONNAGE

A nonlinear measure of a ship's overall internal volume. Gross tonnage is calculated based on the moulded volume of all enclosed spaces of the ship and is used to determine things such as a ship's manning regulations, safety rules, registration fees, and port dues, whereas the older gross register tonnage is a measure of the volume of only certain enclosed spaces.

Hey, wake up! So why do we use this measurement to determine Disney Ship Sizes? As noted above, it's used for safety rules and whatnot. As such, it's the standard across this cruise line and all others. Every passenger cruise ship will have this measurement . That makes it easy to compare ship size across ship, class, cruise lines and more.

Ok, we're done with today's course on maritime verbiage. Here's the good stuff.

Below you'll find all Disney ships ranked by size (in Gross Tonnage). Additionally, you'll find a number of other stats in our ship list. These include ship length, beam, draft, passenger count, and a few others for your viewing pleasure.

Your experience on any of the above ships will be consistent. You'll find the same cast of characters and many of the same dining venues and attractions. With Disney, you really can't go wrong.

When choosing our next DCL vacation, we tend to look at factors other than size . More importantly, there are varying itineraries, departure ports, cruise lengths, pricing and more. You can click through any of the ships below to find our pricing page.

Disney Cruise Line Finalizes Purchase of Mega-Ship, the Global Dream

  • by John Frost
  • November 16, 2022 December 14, 2022

disney dream cruise capacity

Update : According to news outlet capital.de, Disney Cruise Lines paid roughly $42 million for the Global Dream mega cruise ship. That’s a massive discount of 97% below what the ship was originally projected to cost.

The ship is only 75% complete though, Disney is projected to spend more than $900 million finishing the ship. Captain Mickey and team will have to add in DCL’s famous level of detail and rework some of the top-deck features that weren’t targeting Disney’s typical audience of passengers.

Disney is also expected to convert some of the staterooms into other spaces as the announced guest capacity for the ship was 6,000 but the Global Dream was originally planned to host 9,000 guests.

What sort of features would you like to see on the Global Dream when it sails again, with a new name, in 2025?

Original story below

In order to expand the Disney Cruise Line vacation experience to new international locations, Disney has been negotiating to acquire a mega cruise ship that was only about 75% complete when the original company went bankrupt. The cruise ship then known as the Global Dream will be finished in Wismar, Germany, by Disney and the prestigious Meyer Werft shipbuilding business.

“Our cruise ships give us the unique opportunity to bring Disney magic to fans no matter where they are, and the addition of this ship will make a Disney Cruise Line vacation accessible to more families than ever before,” said Josh D’Amaro, chairman, Disney Parks, Experiences and Products.

As the company that was building the ship went into insolvency, Disney was able to get a good deal from the creditors. So even with the cost of expected upgrades and new finishes, it will be a quick and affordable way to bring the Disney fleet to 6 ships.

Disney is working with Meyer Werft to complete the construction at that MV Werften shipyard in Wismar, Germany. Meyer Werft is the Papenburg-based company that built the Disney Dream, Disney Fantasy and Disney Wish and is scheduled to build two sister ships to the Disney Wish.

The ship will be given a new name and have some of its features redesigned by the world-famous Walt Disney Imagineers. As you can see in the concept art above, the exterior will be adorned in the iconic, Mickey Mouse-inspired colors of the fleet, complete with signature red funnels.

Some of the original concept art for the Global Dream reveal that the top deck was originally planned to be very much like an amusement park at sea, which would be a big departure from the Disney Cruise Line experience, so we expect a lot of changes to happen there.

disney dream cruise capacity

Plus Disney Cruise Lines are known for their interior theming and attention to detail when it comes to the guest experience from the cabin and its furnishings to things like carpeting and those character based touches.

Disney Cruise Line expects the passenger capacity to be approximately 6,000 with around 2,300 crew members. The Disney Dream, Fantasy, and Wish currently hold around 4,000 passengers. At a huge 208,000 gross tonnage that would make this ship the 7th largest cruise ship world-wide if it were sailing today.

The new ship, which Disney plans to base outside of the United States, will be updated to include Disney quality experiences along with the usual dazzling entertainment, world-class dining and legendary guest service that guests expect from Disney Cruise Line.

The ship was originally intended for the waters of China and The Walt Disney Company has expressed interest in finding a home port for one of its ships closer to its patrons in nations like Japan and China. So that would be our guess as to a final destination.

The ship will be among the first in the cruise industry to be fueled by green methanol, one of the lowest emission fuels available. While it’s not emission free, perhaps Disney will buy carbon offsets to make it a net-zero carbon ship. That would be great for the battle against climate change.

Disney has said the new ship is scheduled to set sail in 2025.

Fort Lauderdale

disney dream cruise capacity

Ft Lauderdale is a city of islands held together by an intricate web of canals, rivers, bays and waterways hundreds of miles long. Needless to say, boating is a favorite city pastime, whether zooming along on a speedboat, enjoying a fishing charter, or cruising the coastline by yacht. Beautiful homes of every size and style make up the bulk of this primarily residential area. By the beach, a leisurly stroll can be taken along the new landscaping wavewall design of the beachfront promenade. But this city is anything but sedate. Once a spring break hot spot, the town still has an energetic and colorful nightlife. Nearby, charming Laudrdale-By-the-Sea is home to one of the only living coral reefs in the US accesible from shore. Las Olas Boulevard, a shoppers paradise, is the chic new shopping and trendy dining area of downtown. If sports are more your inclination, dozens of golf courses and hundreds of public parks allow you to absorb the great Florida outdoors. Cultural arts are also popular. Water taxis bring theater-goers from throughout the city to the Performing Arts Center on the water.

Lighthouse Point

Lighthouse Point, Bahamas, or simply Lighthouse Point, is a private peninsula in The Bahamas which serves as an exclusive port for the Disney Cruise Line ships. It is located in the south-eastern region of Bannerman Town, Eleuthera. In March 2019, The Walt Disney Company purchased the peninsula from the Bahamian government, giving the company control over the area.

Is a 3-Night Disney Cruise Right for You?

A 3-night Disney Cruise can be an excellent choice for:

  • First-time cruisers
  • Families with limited vacation time
  • Those on a tighter budget
  • Disney fans looking for a quick getaway
  • Anyone wanting to combine a cruise with a Walt Disney World vacation

However, if you’re looking for a more immersive experience or want to visit multiple ports, you might prefer longer Disney cruise options .

Is a 3-Night Disney Cruise Too Short?

One of the most common questions about 3-night/4-day cruises is whether they’re too brief. The answer largely depends on your expectations and travel style.

First, you should understand how much time you’ll actually have onboard:

  • Day 1 — afternoon/evening only : You’ll typically be allowed to board the ship sometime between 11 AM and 3PM. Once you’re onboard, you’ll have the rest of the day to enjoy the ship.
  • Days 2 & 3 — full days onboard: Spend two entire days onboard the ship (with the option to go ashore for part of the day if the ship is visiting a port).
  • Day 4 — early morning only: Your cruise ends very early on debarkation day. There are no onboard activities; it’s simply wake up, eat breakfast, and leave. You’ll likely be back ashore by 8AM, if not earlier.

With that in mind, here are some pros and cons to consider:

Advantages of a 3-Night Cruise:

  • Perfect for First-Timers : If you’re new to cruising or Disney Cruise Line , a 3-night trip is an excellent way to test the waters.
  • Budget-Friendly : Shorter cruises are generally the cheapest Disney Cruise experience , making them an excellent way to save money .
  • Less Time Off Work : You can enjoy a cruise without using too many vacation days.
  • Ideal for Long Weekends : These cruises often depart on Fridays, making them perfect for a quick getaway.
  • Easy to Combine With Disney World : One week of vacation time and a round trip plane ticket to Orlando International Airport (MCO) gets you a few days at Disney World plus a short Disney cruise from Port Canaveral.

Disney Cruise vs Disney World

Potential Drawbacks:

  • Limited Time to Explore : With only three nights on board, you might feel rushed trying to experience everything the ship offers.
  • Less Time for Relaxation : The shorter duration means you have fewer days to fully unwind and settle into the cruise rhythm.
  • Limited Port Visits : Most 3-night cruises typically visit only one or two ports, which may limit your exploration opportunities compared to longer itineraries.
  • Shorter Entertainment Schedule : You might miss out on some shows or activities that are spread out over longer cruises.
  • Less Time to Build Relationships : Shorter cruises provide less opportunity to form connections with crew members or other guests.

Popular 3-Night Disney Cruise Itineraries

Disney offers several 3-night cruise options, with the most common being Bahamian cruises. Let’s explore the typical itineraries:

3 Night Bahamian Cruise from Port Canaveral

Nassau | Image © Disney

This popular itinerary usually includes:

  • Day 1: Departure from Port Canaveral, Florida (afternoon)
  • Day 2: Nassau, Bahamas
  • Day 3: Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island)
  • Day 4: Return to Port Canaveral (early morning)

The recent opening of Disney Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point means that some 3-night cruise itineraries now include this exclusive destination as part of the trip. In fact, some itineraries only visit Lookout Cay, while others only go to Castaway Cay. Additionally, there are 3-night trips that visit both locations, depending on the schedule.

3 Night Bahamian Cruise from Fort Lauderdale

Itineraries for Disney’s 3-night/4-day cruises from Fort Lauderdale are similar to those from Port Canaveral, but they are more convenient for travelers coming from Miami or other South Florida locations.

Map showing the route of a 3-night Bahamian Cruise starting in Fort Lauderdale, with a visit to Castaway Cay and a Day at Sea before returning to Fort Lauderdale

Additionally, Fort Lauderdale may appeal to those who prefer a more relaxed and low-key port experience.

Is There a Difference Between Port Canaveral and Fort Lauderdale Departures?

While the itineraries are similar, there are a few key differences between Port Canaveral and Port Everglades :

  • Location : Port Canaveral is closer to Orlando and the Disney World parks, making it easier to combine a cruise with a theme park visit. Fort Lauderdale is more convenient for those in South Florida.
  • Ship Options : Port Canaveral typically hosts more Disney cruise ships , potentially offering more sailing dates and ship choices.
  • Pre-Cruise /Post-Cruise Activities : The areas around each port offer different experiences. Orlando has theme parks, while Fort Lauderdale has beaches.
  • Review our articles about Port Canaveral Disney Cruises and Fort Lauderdale Disney Cruises to help you decide which option is best for you.

“Magic at Sea” Cruises

These special cruises, often departing from Australia or New Zealand, typically don’t stop at any ports. Instead, they focus on providing a full Disney cruise experience while remaining at sea. They’re an excellent option for those who want to enjoy the ship’s amenities without the hassle of disembarking at ports.

Disney cruise AquaDuck, AquaDunk and AquaMouse: What are the differences?

Ashley Kosciolek

When it comes to kids clubs, onboard entertainment and service, Disney Cruise Line blows just about every other mainstream cruise line out of the water. However, it doesn't quite have the top-deck "wow" factor of other brands. On its ships, the main attractions tend to be the pools and water rides, which include AquaDuck, AquaDunk and AquaMouse.

But what are they, and what sets them apart? With names so similar, it can be difficult to know the difference. Here, I'll go over what each attraction entails, what you should know before you ride and the ships on which you'll find them.

What is the Disney Cruise Line AquaDuck?

disney dream cruise capacity

Of these three Disney cruise waterslides, AquaDuck was the first to debut. It was rolled out on Disney Dream in 2011, and a second followed when Disney Fantasy began sailing a year later in 2012.

Named after Donald Duck, AquaDuck is billed as a "water coaster," which means that instead of just hopping into the slide and careening down several decks, you sit in a two-person raft. That allows you to sit somewhat upright during your journey.

During the ride, you'll wind down four decks and pass through the ship's funnel. If you look down through the clear tubing, you'll catch a view of the pool deck and ocean below. It's definitely fun but might not be as heart-pounding as some other thrill slides you might have tried. Tip: Ride at night for an even better experience that includes colorful lights.

Passengers must be at least 42 inches tall to ride. To ride alone, you must be at least 54 inches tall and 7 years old. Children younger than 7 must be accompanied by someone who meets the two-person height requirement and is at least 14 years old. Passengers cannot wear loose items, snorkels or swim masks on AquaDuck.

Which Disney ships have AquaDuck?

The AquaDuck water coaster is on Disney Dream and Disney Fantasy.

What is the Disney cruise AquaDunk?

disney dream cruise capacity

Disney Magic is currently the only ship to house AquaDunk. The vessel was retrofitted with the waterslide during a massive refurbishment in 2013.

Of all of Disney's waterslides, AquaDunk is the fastest and most thrilling. It's a true waterslide in the sense that it doesn't use rafts. Instead, cruisers step into a pod at the top of the slide and wait for the floor to drop out from under them. When that happens, they shoot down through 212 feet of clear tubing, including a section that takes them 20 feet out over the side of the ship, above the open water below.

You must be at least 48 inches tall to ride AquaDunk, and it's an experience that requires passengers to go one at a time. Goggles, swim masks and snorkel equipment are not allowed on AquaDunk.

Which Disney ships have AquaDunk?

AquaDunk is only on one of Disney Cruise Line's ships: Disney Magic.

What is the Disney cruise AquaMouse?

disney dream cruise capacity

Disney claims AquaMouse is the first theme park-style attraction at sea (although I disagree that it's theme park-caliber). It debuted on Disney Wish in 2022, elevating the brand's waterslide-style rides to the next level.

The experience starts with passengers sitting in two-person rafts, which are slowly drawn uphill on a conveyor belt. During the climb, passengers can watch one of two special animated shows via screens that line the walls.

The first one, Scuba Scramble, takes riders on an under-sea trip as Mickey and Minnie try to start their own shore excursion company. The second show, Swiss Meltdown, involves a mountaintop sledding excursion gone awry.

When riders reach the top, the fun truly begins with drops, twists and turns to follow.

Sister ships Disney Treasure and Disney Destiny are set to offer their own versions of AquaMouse. Respectively, the ships will feature Curse of the Golden Egg , which sees Mickey and Minnie searching for treasure in an ancient temple, and a villain-themed show with baddies from the Disney Animation Archive, including the Queen of Hearts from "Alice in Wonderland," Scar from "The Lion King" and Chernabog from "Fantasia."

Which Disney ships have AquaMouse?

Disney Wish features the AquaMouse attraction, along with Disney Treasure. Disney Destiny will also have a version of the attraction when the vessel debuts in 2025.

Does Disney Wonder have a waterslide?

disney dream cruise capacity

Yes. However, although Disney Wonder has a waterslide, it's not one of the line's branded Aqua-slides. Instead, it's a pretty standard waterslide that's part of the AquaLab children's water play area. The yellow tubing, which is open to the sky, provides a somewhat leisurely, winding ride designed for children and teens rather than thrill-seekers.

Note that Twist 'n' Spout is also on Disney Magic and Disney Fantasy. Cruisers must be at least 38 inches tall to ride. Goggles, swim masks and snorkel equipment are not permitted on Twist 'n' Spout.

What does it cost to ride Disney cruise ship waterslides?

Disney Cruise Line waterslides are free for all passengers to ride.
