How to Fast Travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Image of Marc Magrini

Players will visit an incredibly expansive world in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 . The game makes its massive size well-known right at its beginning, and it can very well feel daunting for many newcomers to the franchise. There are plenty of ways to get the leg up on enemies and items in the game, such as scanning amiibo for extra goodies , running from battles too tough to face , or finding ways to level up quickly . Sadly, there isn’t much that players can do to avoid having to walk across most of the world. But after reaching certain landmarks and completing story events, players can fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 to alleviate their concerns of backtracking across the game’s massive locales.

In this title, Fast Travel is known as Skip Travel. It’s possible to use by  opening the area map and selecting a landmark . The player can choose any landmark found previously to Skip Travel to, as long as it is currently accessible. The map can be accessed through the menu, but players can also hold ZL and press X to quickly open it while on the field. Pressing + on the map will also bring up a list search of various spots to Skip Travel to, though this won’t cover the entire region.

Skip Travel is unlocked after clearing certain story events, and players might find it locked again as they continue through the game. Even while Skip Travel is available, it’s very possible that players will still be unable to return to certain locations. It might be a good idea to talk to as many people as possible and complete any side quests as soon as they become available. Otherwise, you could be waiting for a long time before getting a second chance to tie up any loose ends.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3  is a Nintendo Switch exclusive.

Named Graves are left behind after you encounter and defeat a Unique Monster. These are world bosses and the most difficult challenge to overcome in Xenoblade. After they are defeated, a statue will mark their grave. These graves can be reactivated for multiple fights and become fast travel points.

Colonies and Secret Areas

Colonies are this game’s version of towns. Each Colony contains sidequests, Rest Spots, and new people to speak to. Each Colony you visit will unlock itself as a fast travel location. Secret Areas are similar to landmarks but are usually harder to find. Once you discover one, you can travel to them just like everything else on this list.

These places of interest are how you can take advantage of fast travel in this big world. You can’t use Skip Travel if you’re in combat or when the main story prevents its use. Outside of those scenarios, take advantage of fast travel to make exploring Aionios a pleasure instead of a chore.

How to fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

xenoblade chronicles 3 tips and tricks beginners guide

Ever since open worlds have gotten so large that it can take close to, or even over, an hour to traverse the entire thing, games have mercifully allowed us to fast travel. The way this works varies from game to game, but typically involves warping to specific locations you've already discovered on the map to save time hoofing it there on foot. Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is on a scale that almost no other Switch game can compete with, and while the world is beautiful and full of things to explore, sometimes you just want to get where you're going quickly.

How to unlock Skip Travel

How to perform a skip travel, what you need.

Discover one location with fast travel capability

This is where the fast travel system in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 comes in. Known as Skip Travel, this mechanic can drastically cut down on the hours you will spend in this game, which is already going to be a considerable amount just to beat the story. Still, there needs to be a justification of some kind for how Skip Travel works, so you won't be able to do it right off the bat. If your feet are aching from all that running around, here's everything you need to know about how to fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 .

Unlocking Skip Travel is as simple as finding the first location that you are able to fast travel to. These locations can be any of the following:

  • Named Graves
  • Secret Areas

Once you've visited one or more of the above location types, you can travel to them at any time by following these simple steps.

Step 1: Open your map.

Step 2: Highlight the location you want to travel to.

Step 3: Select Skip Travel .

While you can only travel to specific places, you can travel from anywhere in the game, and even change the time of day you want it to be when you arrive as well. This is particularly useful for quests that only trigger during certain times.

The expanded open world of Rise of the Ronin is so big that not even a trusty horse and fast travel systemare quite enough to make traversal as fun and fast as needed. While it might seem a little fantastical, you won't complain about the inclusion of a glider once you get your hands on it and feel how freeing it is to soar above the rooftops and countryside. This has been a heavily marketed mechanic, and yet you can miss your first chance to get it if you don't explore a little before moving on with the main quest. If you want your ronin to truly rise, make sure you check out how to get the glider here. Where to get the glider

The glider can be found only after you complete the first "big" mission in Rise of the Ronin called "Curtain Falls, Curtain Rises." The end of this quest will have you slay the boss and engage in a short dialogue with them. No matter what you pick, you will get both the papers you need to cross into Yokohama and a key to a storage room. You're not shown where that room is or even need to go there to continue, but missing it will mean losing out on glider access.

One lesson you will learn very quickly in Dragon's Dogma 2 is that your Arisen isn't built to carry as many materials as you want it to. On a single trek through the world, you will be snagging fruits, herbs, monster parts, ore, weapons, and more. All that weight adds up fast, and you only need to go over half your weight limit before seeing negative effects. Sure, your pawns can shoulder some of that burden, but even then, you will need to start leaving things behind. There are no backpacks or stats you can increase to increase your carrying capacity, but that doesn't mean it isn't possible. You just need to look in a different place. How to increase your maximum weight

There are two ways to increase your weight limit in Dragon's Dogma 2, but only one of them is permanent. That is to find and use special Golden Trove Beatles hidden in the world. These are big, gold glowing beetle-looking critters, usually clinging to trees or walls that you can grab like anything else. Once you find one, open your inventory and use it to permanently increase your weight by .015kg. That's a rather small increment, but there are dozens, if not over a hundred, of these bugs to find.

There's a lot to see in Baldur's Gate 3, but you're not going to get far without a few good companions by your side. Thankfully, you'll stumble upon a wide assortment of NPCs that'd love nothing more than to accompany you on your journey. These friendly faces fill several different roles -- from mages and healers to archers and warriors, there's bound to be a companion that augments your playstyle.

Many of these companions also come with their own series of quests and unlockable skills, turning them into more than just faceless characters to help you in combat. In fact, you can spend hours unraveling their narratives, and depending on your actions, your companions might look very different at the end of Baldur's Gate 3 than when you first met them.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 - How To Fast Travel

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 takes place in the world of Aionios, in which the two nations, Agnus and Keeves, are at constant war with one another.

It's a massive world, over times five times bigger than Xenoblade Chronicles 2, that could take well over 150 hours for you to explore every nook and cranny.

Of course, traveling back and forth can be tedious, not to mention time taking. While exploration is always rewarding, sometimes it's best to take the back seat and fast-travel to your desired location. As such, to make things easy for you, here's our guide explaining how to fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3.

How fast travel works in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

fast travel xenoblade chronicles 3

To fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, simply open the map and select the point of interest you want to visit. However, like every open-world game, you can only fast-travel to locations you have previously visited.

In the case of Xenoblade Chronicles, these areas include Landmarks, Colonies, Rest Spots, and Named Graves.

Landmarks are points of interest with gorgeous vistas in the world of Aionios. These are the most common fast travel points in the game, and you will encounter these often when exploring the open world.

Colonies are base camps of the game's two main factions. These are the game's version of towns where you can interact with NPCs and pick up side quests.

Rest spots are campsites scattered around the world of Aionios, where you can craft items, cook meals, listen to the banters of your party members, or just soak in the view.

Named Graves are areas where you defeat powerful unique bosses in the game. They appear as a fast travel point on the map after you have defeated the big foe in the vicinity.

Image of Nebojša Prijić

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is the third installment of the popular Japanese role-playing game series. Here you'll embark on an open-world adventure full of surprises, so prepare for a lot of exploring. As the world map of Aionios is vast, you'll need some fast transportation between locations, as slow travel is not high on the list of gamers' requests. That's where fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 comes in handy if you know how to unlock it.

Traveling between locations can be a drag in these type of games, but fortunately, that's not the case in XC3. But that doesn't mean you can fast travel from the start. You have to play the game a little before jumping around the map. To unlock the fast travel for your heroes in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 , you'll have first to discover some locations. Simply put, you can fast travel only when you have areas to travel to.

You can visit several types of places with fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3. After you discover them the first time, next time you can return there with fast travel. These are vital locations where you go to solve quests, fight enemies, but also rest:

  • Landmarks —Basically, these are attractive locations that, once discovered, you can use for fast travel.
  • Rest spots —Camping places where you rest your characters.
  • Colonies —Safe zones where you can recuperate, get some quest work, and talk to townspeople.
  • Named Graves —Places where you've defeated Unique Monster. After you defeat these boss-type enemies, you can use their graves as a fast travel location.

How to fast travel in XC3

When you unlock places of interest, you can fast travel to that location wherever you want during the game. OK, almost always, as you can't teleport during battle, so forget that option as a means of escaping. To fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, follows these instructions:

  • In the game, go to the Main menu .
  • Choose the Map option.
  • Select a place of interest on the map that you want to travel to (some Landmark, for example)
  • Press the Skip Travel button to fast travel to the desired location.

This travel system will save you from many hiking adventures so that you can focus on a much more exciting part of the Xenoblade Chronicles 3 game. Of course, if you love the realism of traveling, you can always ignore the fast travel option, put a backpack on and enjoy great-looking surroundings.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 beginner’s guide, tips, and tricks

Learn the systems and fight through an endless war

by Jeffrey Parkin

Xenoblade Chronicles 3’s hero Noah standing on a battlefield

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 drops you in the world of Aionios in the middle of a long war. The game starts off straightforward enough, but over time it becomes something else entirely in terms of both narrative and game mechanics. Battles are flashy and hectic, and your menus will have options added to them constantly.

In this Xenoblade Chronicles 3 beginner’s guide, we’ll give you tips from our time with game to get you started faster. We’ll talk about the game’s pacing, getting used to the ever-expanding battle mechanics, collecting resources and items, managing gear, and exploration.

It’s a slow-paced game

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 introduces its mechanics — specifically skills and other battle mechanics — at a leisurely pace. To the point where you’ll be getting tutorial screens a couple dozen hours in. Be patient.

Everything introduced builds on or adds to everything before it. It’s not that the game in hour one is radically different from hour 20, but there will be enough added that it will feel like it. Just let the game go at its own pace. Get good enough at what is introduced to be comfortable with it, and then move on. There’s a good chance the next story beat will introduce another new mechanic to keep things interesting.

Use Training Drills to practice

All of those new battle mechanics will get introduced in the middle of fights, and you’ll get a chance to use them right away — but the prompts and explanations won’t show up again. If (and when) you get confused or lose track of how exactly to do something, head to your menu.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Training Drill in a virtual space to practice using Arts.

Go to System > Training Drills and select the skill you want to practice. This is a bite-sized tutorial that will let you nail down exactly how all those new mechanics work.

Learn how to fight, and then stop fighting

Combat in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is a weird mix of rhythm, positioning, and waiting. You’re really just waiting for your Arts to charge, and then triggering them in a series to deal as much damage as fast as you can. In the background, your allies will be doing the same thing automatically.

Once you catch on, feel free to set everyone to automatic. When a fight starts, watch for the prompt on the left under your team’s portraits and then hit the minus button. That sets the entire fight to automatic. You’ll still be able to control tactics, but you won’t have to manage the minutiae of yet another fight against an angry hyena monster.

That prompt won’t appear for pivotal or important fights, so you’ll still need to know what you’re doing.

You don’t have to fight every monster

While you’re running through the world, you’ll see lots of monsters dotting the landscape. Fighting them will earn you experience for leveling up and, later, increasing your class rank. But Xenoblade Chronicles 3 isn’t about grinding. In fact, once you level up past where an area’s monsters are, they tend to stop attacking you.

Xenoblade Chronicles 3 heroes entering the Alfeto Valley

Use the monsters to get you to the next level and then look for an appropriate challenge. Don’t waste your time fighting every low-level rabbit — you’ll get way more XP from tackling something around your same level.

Collect some items, but not everything

There are items scattered everywhere as you explore. It might be tempting to pick up everything you see. But all those items have pretty limited uses.

Mostly, you’ll use them to fill collection side quests called Collectopedia Cards. These happen in the background and turning them in will get you some bonus XP. You’ll see them in the Quests menu on the far right tab. (Also, you can turn them in multiple times.)

Noah running through Colony 9 in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Since you can’t actually see what item you’re picking up, you don’t really have any control here. Just pick up most items you see and watch for the Collectopedia icon to appear on the right side of the screen under your map.

Items with a scale icon are safe to sell

It’s probably worth hanging on to most items you pick up — you might need them for a Collectopedia quest later. Some items, though, are just for selling to vendors. These items are marked with a scale icon. Sell those every time. (In fact, a little later in the game, you’ll sell them automatically.)

Gear is subtle

You can’t change your team’s clothing or weapons in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 ; those are determined by their class. You can, however, change out their accessories.

Accessories provide stat boosts. The benefits of an accessory can be pretty subtle, though, like an 11% boost to HP healed by healing Arts, or a 6% increase to Physical Defense, or extra damage against a certain type of enemy.

The actual stats aren’t that important. Just try to match the accessory to the role each teammate is playing. Defenders need extra HP and a better Block Rate. Healers are the only ones who benefit from accessories that boost healing. Attackers will spend more time auto-attacking than others.

It’s (frustratingly) subtle, but swapping out accessories can make all the difference in a fight.

Unlock new landmarks as you explore

There’s not exactly a lot to find as you explore the world of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 . Your path is pretty linear. Sure, you might find a few new items as you reach new areas, but you’re not going to miss much if you just beeline for your next destination.

What you will find as you explore, though, are Landmarks. Landmarks are fast travel destinations. Unlocking them will make your life a lot easier down the road. You don’t have to uncover every inch of the map every time you reach a new area, but poke around a little to find Landmarks when you can.

How to Level Up Fast in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

Image of Nikola "Nick" Jovanovic

The brand new story of Xenoblade Chronicles 3 is set in the world of Aionios where the group of characters tries to end the cycle of violence in their homeland. If you’ve decided to jump into this massive JRPG adventure that lasts over 100 hours, here are some tips to speed up the leveling-up process in the beginning and give your characters a better fighting chance.

Related: How to Change Time of Day in Xenoblade Chronicles 3

In addition to the usual grind of monsters in the starting zones and completing main and side quests, check out some of the other ways below to level up your characters quickly in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 .

Leveling up in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 Through Battles

Grind the elite mobs.

In the starting zones, you will notice monsters that have blue marks around their level mark. These opponents can be a more serious challenge even if they are the same level as your party. However, if you manage to defeat them without any of your characters dying, you will get the following bonus, which helps a lot in speeding up the leveling process:

  • 250% more Experience Points.
  • 300% more Class Points.
  • 350% more Gold earned.

Farm the Unique Monsters

Unique monsters are like world bosses in Xenoblade’s world, and killing them will award you with a lot of experience points. This tactic may not be the most ideal for complete beginners because these opponents will wipe you out very easily, but when you strengthen your party a little and return to one of the previous zones later, you can try to down one of them. When you defeat a unique monster at the place where it fell, a gravestone will appear, and if you interact with it, you can refight the unique monster and collect the big bonus again.

Leveling Up in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 via Exploration and Collectables

Discovering landmarks and points of interest.

Each time you discover a new zone, or find a landmark or point of interest in the world, you earn bonus Experience Points that can be used at Rest Spots. The ability to increase a level on the Rest Spot will become available once you have enough bonus Experience Points for a full level up.

Leveling up in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 by collecting stuff

Gathering collectibles in Xenoblade Chronicles 3 also brings additional experience. The collectible hunt is neatly organized through Collectopaedia Cards that is unlocked somewhere around the beginning of Chapter 2. On these cards that you collect from NPCs, there will be lists of items that you need to grab in order to complete the Collectapedia card and get a bonus.

These are just some of the alternative ways to earn extra EXP that can help you level up faster in Xenoblade Chronicles 3, so go level up and have fun!

Xenoblade Chronicles: How to Fast Travel

Image of Zhiqing Wan

Developed by Monolith Soft, Xenoblade Chronicles is a JRPG that was originally released for the Wii back in 2010. It’s now getting new life on the Nintendo Switch with an enhanced and upgraded Definitive Edition. The game comes with improved graphics and visuals, an arranged soundtrack, as well as new story content in the form of the Future Connected epilogue. Here’s how to fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles .

Fast Travel in Xenoblade Chronicles

Xenoblade Chronicles features a massive open world, and I mean massive. The areas are extremely large and open, with tons of monsters teeming in the wild lands. The colonies and towns themselves are also pretty big, and getting around on foot will be extremely time-consuming, especially when you start backtracking to complete side quests.

Because of this, you’ll probably want to make use of the game’s fast travel feature, or skip travel as it’s commonly referred to in the game itself.

First off, you’ll need to register landmarks in the game. Each time you reach a new area, there are usually landmarks around and all you have to do is walk near them and a prompt will show up, letting you know that you’ve registered it. After that, bring up the menu with the X button and go to the Area Maps option.

Fast travel in xenoblade chronicles

From here, choose a location from the Area List and press the A button, which brings up a sub-menu of the landmarks you’ve registered. Then, choose the landmark you want to fast travel to and press A again. You can do this pretty much from any location in the game as long as you’re not in battle, which makes this a very handy feature to have.

That’s all you need to know about how to fast travel in Xenoblade Chronicles . Be sure to search for Twinfinite for more tips and information on the game.
