The 7 Wildest Moments From Taylor Swift’s Eras Tour Shows In London

Even Travis Kelce couldn’t stay away.

LONDON, ENGLAND - JUNE 23: (EDITORIAL USE ONLY. NO BOOK COVERS) Taylor Swift performs on stage durin...

Taylor Swift’s history-making Eras Tour has broken records and become a cultural event in almost every place she visits, from opening night in Arizona to shows across South America, Asia, and Australia. However, London may take the crown for the tour’s wildest shows yet.

On June 21, Swift took the stage for her first Eras Tour show at London’s Wembley Stadium, where she’s scheduled to perform an astounding eight shows — more than any other city on the trek.

The London shows were full of A-list crowds, surprise appearances for the fans, and even a couple of blunders that will go down in Errors Tour history . Not only did Swift’s boyfriend Travis Kelce fly across the pond to support her all weekend, but he even brought along his brother, former NFL player Jason, and sister-in-law Kylie for the fun.

Reflecting on Instagram, Swift called the London shows “surreal” and said they had “some of the loudest crowds I’ve ever heard.” She also gave a shoutout to her surprise guests, including her beau. “I’m still cracking up/swooning over @killatrav’s Eras Tour debut,” she wrote, with a heart-face emoji. “Never going to forget these shows.”

Swift is set to return to Wembley Stadium for five more shows in August, and if this weekend was any indication, future attendees are in for an exciting ride. Here are the seven wildest moments from Swift’s first three London shows of the Eras Tour.

1. The A-Listers Arrived In Style

Even if nothing else had happened, Swift’s London shows would have been notable for the guest list alone. The June 21 show was attended by Salma Hayek, Leslie Mann, Cara Delevingne, Nicola Coughlan, Jonathan Van Ness, and even some members of the Royal Family. Prince William took his three children George, Charlotte, and Louis, and even posed with Swift and Kelce backstage.

The next night drew Tom Cruise, Mila Kunis, Ashton Kutcher, Liam Hemsworth, Greta Gerwig, Theo James, Jamie Dornan, and Rachel Zegler, the latter of whom danced with fans on the floor rather than watch from the VIP area. Even Jason and Kylie Kelce returned for a second round.

However, the final show of the weekend was perhaps the most star-studded. Phoebe Waller-Bridge and Andrew Scott had a Fleabag reunion, while Sophie Turner, Ellie Goulding, Cate Blanchett, and even the legendary Paul McCartney himself were also in attendance.

2. Prince William Shook It Off

While Prince William took his three children to the show, he seemed to have more fun than any of them. As seen in a viral video, eagle-eyed attendees caught the Prince of Wales dancing his tail off to Swift’s 2014 hit “Shake It Off.” The future King of England at least knows how to have fun.

3. A Moving BFF Reunion Onstage

Taylor Swift and Hayley Williams of Paramore perform.

At the second London show, Paramore lead singer Hayley Williams, who has been opening for the European leg with her band, joined Swift onstage for the first time. The two performed their Speak Now (Taylor’s Version) collab “Castles Crumbling” together, and Williams even dressed for the occasion in a purple dress that could’ve come straight from the Speak Now era.

Before singing, the two reflected on their friendship , with Williams calling Swift her “longest music friend” and recalling when they last performed together at the Speak Now Tour in 2012. “You had me come down a grand staircase,” she said. “I barely remember it!”

4. Taylor Swallowed A Bug — Again

In the latest addition to the Errors Tour (aka the series of Swift’s hilarious Eras Tour blunders), Swift swallowed another bug. While performing “All Too Well,” a bug landed in her mouth, and she had to ask the audience to take over for a few seconds as she coughed it out.

This previously happened at a Chicago show in June 2023, when Swift told the crowd, “This is gonna happen again.” It took another year, but it did happen again. Just call her Prophet Swift.

5. Take That, Dave Grohl

Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters

Swift and Foo Fighters both played in London over the same weekend, and lead singer Dave Grohl had some thoughts. “I tell you, man, you don't want to suffer the wrath of Taylor Swift,” he told the crowd on June 22. “We've had more than a few eras and more than a few f*cking errors as well. Just a couple. That's because we actually play live. What? Just saying.”

At her June 23 show, Swift appeared to respond to Grohl’s insinuations that she doesn’t play live after the audience gave an extended round of applause. “Every one of my band members, every single one of our crew— who's gonna be playing live for you for 3.5 hours tonight —  they deserve this so much,” she said. “So does every one of my fellow performers.”

6. Gracie Abrams Made An Eras Tour Comeback

Taylor Swift and Gracie Abrams perform on stage

Swift’s former Eras Tour opener Gracie Abrams (who will return to the tour this fall) surprised fans at the June 23 show to perform her new collaboration with Swift, “Us,” for the first time. Before Abrams took the piano, the two reflected on how their new song was created, with Swift joking that they were “pretty hammered” while writing, which ended with them extinguishing a fire.

7. Travis Kelce Took The Stage

Taylor Swift is joined on stage by Travis Kelce

After two nights of watching from the sidelines, Kelce decided that he wanted to get in on the fun (à la Ken joining Barbie’s dance party). At the June 23 show, he surprised fans by coming on stage for the comedic bit where Swift’s dancers get her ready to perform “I Can Do It With A Broken Heart.”

For his part, Kelce carried Swift, who pretends to be unconscious at first, to the bed where her dancers wake her up and change her costume. As they dressed her, he helped hype the audience before pretending to touch up her makeup with a brush. Swift held back her smiles as she stayed in character for the bit, but it was clear that she was just as charmed as the crowd.

Let the Hype Begin for Penn State Tight End Tyler Warren

Mark wogenrich | jun 16, 2024.

Penn State Nittany Lions tight end Tyler Warren runs for a long gain after a catch against the Mississippi Rebels in the 2023 Peach Bowl at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta.

  • Penn State Nittany Lions

On a conference this spring, NFL Network draft analyst Daniel Jeremiah noted how one future Penn State draft pick stood out during his film study.

"I will say off topic, tight end No. 44 for Penn State who came back to school, he is a really good player," Jeremiah said.

They hype machine for Penn State's Tyler Warren began loading in December, when the tight end announced plans to return for the Nittany Lions in 2024. It hummed through spring drills, where Warren kept a low profile, and now is purring as Penn State football grinds through summer workouts. Nittany Lions strength coach Chuck Losey only added to the hype recently.

"I think he's got a shot to go down as one of the best that we've had at that position. I really do," Losey said. "I believe that. I've thought that for a long time."

Warren might be the most important returning pass-catcher for Penn State's offense, which plans to emphasize his 6-6, 260-pound frame. Warren returns as Penn State's leader in terms of receptions (34), receiving yards (422) and touchdown catches (seven). He has 11 career touchdown receptions, four behind program leaders Mike Gesicki and Pat Freiermuth (15 each). He should set a new mark this season.

Before the NFL Draft, tight end Theo Johnson, who went in the fourth round to the New York Giants, predicted a much higher ceiling for Warren. "I've told every single [NFL team] that he's going to be the first tight end off the board next year," Johnson said.

Losey certainly added to the expectations.

"I know it's always been kind of a split share between talking about Theo and him throughout the past few years," Losey said. "But that's what excites me most about Tyler this year. He's the guy going in that everybody's talking about, but he's also the guy and the personality that pays absolutely no mind to that. Like, he doesn't hear it. And that's what I love about him. He has the same view when he comes in, and I think that is going to be off the charts."

Warren delivered his biggest jolt of last season when he raced 75 yards after a catch against Ole Miss in the Peach Bowl. Warren led the Nittany Lions with five receptions for 127 yards and was targeted nine times in the bowl game. He gives quarterback Drew Allar a huge target with reliable hands and run-after-catch potential this season. As a result, the hype rolls on.

"I've always been drawn to [Warren] because I love those guys who come in, take care of their business and do everything they need to do to take care of their bodies," Losey said. "You don't necessarily hear them all the time. But you do feel them and you do feel their presence. Consistency is just one of the biggest qualities that I value of all these guys. I mean, he's unbelievably consistent. I'm just drawn to that."

Warren and Penn State open the 2024 season Aug. 31 at West Virginia. Kickoff is scheduled for noon ET on FOX.

Why Newcastle are open to selling Yankuba Minteh – despite the hype

Newcastle United fans who closely followed Yankuba Minteh’s impressive loan at Feyenoord were eagerly anticipating seeing the winger at St James’ Park.

However, the 19-year-old Gambian, signed only a year ago, is the player Newcastle determine can best ensure compliance with the Premier League ’s profit and sustainability regulations (PSR) by June 30, underlining just how much financial restrictions are governing their transfer business .

Everton , Borussia Dortmund , Roma, Lyon and Marseille have been linked, with Newcastle fielding enquiries from across Europe. Minteh has agreed personal terms with an unidentified club and Newcastle believe they are close to securing a suitable fee.

But what is Newcastle’s PSR situation? Why would they consider selling Minteh? And are there no alternatives?

What is Newcastle’s PSR situation?

If Newcastle do not sell players by Sunday, there will be a shortfall in their three-year rolling figures — even if the exact deficit is unclear due to the opaque nature of PSR. That risks a points deduction given the precedent set with Everton and Nottingham Forest last season.

Saudi Arabia ’s Public Investment Fund (PIF) owns 80 per cent of Newcastle and boasts untold wealth, but the club’s transfer outlay is restricted by PSR.

They have attempted to expand commercial revenue because the more money a club generates, the more they are permitted to commit to transfers, wages and agent fees.

Following expenditure of more than £400million ($506m) over four transfer windows and having recouped under £50m in sales, Newcastle’s PSR position prevented any additions in January. That was despite an acute injury crisis.

james hype tour 2023

Instead, the mid-season window was dominated by potential exits, with chief executive Darren Eales admitting every player has a price in a PSR world. Bayern Munich made bids for Kieran Trippier and Miguel Almiron was floated to Saudi Pro League clubs as Newcastle attempted to bring in revenue.

The belief was that Newcastle merely needed to sell to buy. The reality was they needed to sell to satisfy PSR unless fresh and sufficient commercial revenue arrived.

Eales was adamant Newcastle would not be in breach and insisted the club’s plans are “always to be compliant”.

But delivering that brings difficult choices. Players Newcastle would ideally like to keep must be moved on.

The ability to effectively trade players outwards has become critical and Newcastle know they simply must improve in that regard.

Why is there so much interest in Minteh? How much is he worth?

There was already anticipation around Minteh’s potential when Newcastle paid an initial £6.5million to sign him from Danish club Odense in July 2023.

Dan Ashworth, the outgoing sporting director, pushed for Minteh — identified by head of recruitment Steve Nickson — and held funds from the first-team budget to secure his signature ahead of other suitors. The belief, like with Garang Kuol , was that Minteh could blossom into an asset worth several times more, meaning he could become a future first-teamer, or sold for significant profit.

As soon as Minteh signed, Newcastle confirmed a season-long loan at Feyenoord — and their diligent development plan has paid dividends.

james hype tour 2023

Across 27 Eredivisie appearances, 17 of which were starts, Minteh scored 10 goals and provided five assists, including netting twice and laying on another in a man-of-the-match display during the 6-0 demolition of Ajax. There was also a Champions League strike against Celtic and he scored twice for The Gambia against Gabon and Seychelles this month.

Arne Slot, the new Liverpool head coach who managed Minteh at Feyenoord, described the winger’s pace as a “huge weapon” and declared that “his choices are already improving in the final phase”.

By spring, Newcastle were already fielding enquiries for Minteh, many about a loan for 2024-25, but others about signing him permanently, with Brighton & Hove Albion among his long-term admirers.

Recruitment figures across Europe are not only taken by what Minteh can already do, but also by what they see as his immense potential.

go-deeper

Garang Kuol's Newcastle 'challenge' as promising loan turns to frustration again

Surely Newcastle would want to keep him, then?

Ideally, yes, but Newcastle are not in an ideal situation and business-led decisions must reluctantly be made, trumping pure footballing logic, to resolve PSR.

Minteh’s prospective pathway to Newcastle’s first team was expected to include another loan in 2024-25, although Eddie Howe, who was not involved in signing him, was keen to take a serious look at him during pre-season. Only after that was a definitive decision expected to be taken on Minteh’s next step.

A couple of months ago, Newcastle were considering three options: loaning out Minteh again, which was viewed as most likely; integrating him into the first-team squad; and selling for PSR reasons.

Once Newcastle failed to secure European football for the 2024-25 season, the likelihood of Minteh receiving significant senior minutes on Tyneside diminished — he may have played regularly in the Conference League — especially if the quality right-winger Newcastle want to sign does arrive. Their ambitious bid for Crystal Palace’s Michael Olise failed , but West Ham United ’s Jarrod Bowen and Leeds United ’s Cryscenio Summerville are among others discussed.

Given the volume of interest in Minteh and Newcastle’s struggles to offload other players, cashing in has become an increasingly pragmatic solution. Newcastle do not feel Minteh would immediately translate his Eredivisie form to the Premier League yet.

Though £40m was Newcastle’s initial lofty asking price, a fee of at least £25m is attainable and that should serve their PSR requirements.

Minteh, who is on holiday and keeping up his fitness in The Gambia, was initially surprised by Newcastle’s willingness to sell him. His dream is to play in the Premier League, but he is enthused by the offers he has received.

The widespread disappointment among Newcastle fans is understandable given Minteh’s potential, but top Premier League clubs regularly sell young assets to aid squad rebuilds. Manchester City — with Cole Palmer and James Trafford, who Newcastle are in talks with Burnley to sign, prime examples — and Chelsea are particularly active in this regard.

Admittedly, Newcastle do not boast an equivalent depth of youth talent, so losing Minteh is more damaging, but the cross-club transactions Aston Villa , Chelsea and Everton are attempting to conclude this month underscore how clubs are getting creative in search of PSR solutions.

Had Ashworth still been actively working, it is unclear whether he would have sanctioned Minteh’s departure, but Eales and Amanda Staveley, Mehrdad Ghodoussi and Jamie Reuben, the domestic owners, have been forced into making another awkward decision due to PSR.

Last summer, Allan Saint-Maximin was sold to Al Ahli for more than £20m to help facilitate incomings. Some fans felt that price was below market value, but Newcastle needed funds quickly.

Admittedly, there is an alternative to selling Minteh, but it is far more unpalatable.

Selling Bruno Guimaraes or Alexander Isak would more than satisfy PSR — and leave additional funds for Newcastle to spend on incomings — but the club is determined to keep both, especially with the former’s £100million release clause due to expire imminently.

Essentially, this is a needs-must scenario for Newcastle and Minteh is their route through the PSR situation.

Why not sell one of their ageing or fringe players instead?

Newcastle have been exploring this and will continue to do so throughout the summer but — for the current accounting period — time has run away from them.

That is not due to a want of trying, but myriad factors have made alternative options unachievable by June 30.

For a start, there is a reason Newcastle would consider losing those players — be that injury record, age, quality, lack of game time, salary level, or a combination of those — and that means there is a dearth of interest, or at least that their market value is insufficient to bridge the PSR gap. Newcastle’s need to bring in funds is also well known, weakening their negotiating position.

What’s more, June is usually a quiet month for transfers, with managers and players on holiday — or at major tournaments — and that slows business. There may be an impending financial deadline for Newcastle, but it is not the same as the definitive deadline for clubs to finalise their squads.

While Newcastle have investigated to see if they can move some senior players to Saudi Arabia, like with Saint-Maximin, Pro League clubs have reined in spending and deals require complicated ratification given the PIF links.

Miguel Almiron is at the Copa America with Paraguay and, although Newcastle are seeking an upgrade at right wing, no transfer is yet in place for the 30-year-old.

Callum Wilson is 32, entering the final year of his deal and has a poor injury record, so some at Newcastle feel it is opportune to offload him, even if Howe had been less keen given the cost and difficulty of sourcing a replacement. The acquisition of Dominic Calvert-Lewin — Newcastle are in talks to sign him from Everton — would likely permit Wilson’s departure, but Howe does not want to lose a centre-forward before he knows another is arriving. Wilson’s exit could happen swiftly if there is a breakthrough in Calvert-Lewin negotiations, though.

Kieran Trippier, meanwhile, wants to stay and Howe would prefer to keep the 33-year-old right-back, but his deal also expires in 2025 and Newcastle already have his successor, 21-year-old Tino Livramento . If Trippier leaves, it will almost certainly be once England ’s involvement at Euro 2024 ends.

Sean Longstaff ’s contract also runs out next summer and selling an academy graduate would represent pure profit in PSR terms, meaning Newcastle could bank the entire sale value. But Howe likes Longstaff’s work rate and, having lost Paul Dummett , is keen to retain his remaining Geordies.

Martin Dubravka is likely to depart but has also been at the Euros with Slovakia , with Trafford being sought as a replacement. Matt Targett , Jamal Lewis , Ryan Fraser and Isaac Hayden are also available.

Many of those players are expected to leave before the transfer window closes but, for Newcastle’s deadline on Sunday, they could not fulfil their PSR needs.

Instead, with time almost up, selling Minteh has proven to be a lesser evil than losing a star player or risking a points deduction.
