DUBAI, United Arab Emirates (AP) — Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived Tuesday in the United Arab Emirates on his seventh trip to the nation, feted by tens of thousands of his countrymen ahead of elections back home in the coming months.

Modi was met on landing in Abu Dhabi by Emirati President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, a man he repeatedly has called his brother while working to bolster ties between the Arabian Peninsula nation that is home to millions of Indians. The two leaders walked past an honor guard before sitting down for their meeting, which saw bilateral agreements signed between the nations.

Modi lauded “our closeness and how we have moved forward in every field.”

He added: “Brother, it is also a matter of happiness that we are going to do (a) bilateral investment treaty. This is also going to have a long lasting impact.”

The two sides also discussed energy issues. India remains a key buyer of Emirati oil and now is looking at the possibility of long-term contracts for liquefied natural gas as well, a statement from the Indian delegation said.

“The UAE and India are united by our shared keenness to develop the bilateral strategic partnership to achieve further progress and build a better future for our peoples,” Sheikh Mohammed said on X, formerly Twitter.

The leader of the United Arab Emirates met Tuesday with an official in the Taliban government still wanted by the U.S. on an up-to $10 million bounty over his involvement in an attack that killed an American citizen and other assaults. Tuesday night, tens of thousands of Indians crowded into Zayed Sports City Stadium to see Modi. Only Indian nationals were being permitted to attend the event in Abu Dhabi, organizers said.

“You have created a new history in Abu Dhabi,” Modi said. “You have come from all corners of UAE, and different states of India, but the hearts of everyone are connected.”

Modi’s arrival came as Indian police on Tuesday used tear gas and detained some farmers who clashed with them and tried to break barricades, blocking their way to New Delhi to demand guaranteed crop prices . In 2021, farmers camped for months in the Indian capital after Modi withdrew controversial agriculture laws that had triggered the earlier protests .

The protests could pose a significant challenge for Modi and his governing Bharatiya Janata Party ahead of the coming elections in India, the world’s largest democracy. However, Modi is widely expected to win a third term.

Of the over 9 million people living in the UAE, India estimates more than 3.5 million are Indian expatriates, making them the largest national group of people in the country, outnumbering even Emirati citizens. While many are low-paid laborers, there are a growing number of white-collar professionals and multiple generations of Indian families.

Modi’s visit highlights the nations’ long-standing economic and historic ties, from spice selling and gold smuggling in the UAE’s formative years to tens of billions of dollars’ worth of annual bilateral trade today.

The countries signed a free trade deal in 2022 aimed at doubling their bilateral trade to $100 billion. The countries have agreed to allow India to settle some payments in rupees as opposed to dollars, lowering transaction costs.

The relationship also underscores the Emirates’ realpolitik foreign policy. The UAE has embraced Modi as Muslims in India increasingly come under attack by Hindu nationalist groups. Modi received the Emirates’ top civilian honor in 2019 even as he stripped statehood from the disputed Muslim-majority region of Kashmir .

Modi’s original visit to the Emirates in 2015 was the first by an Indian prime minister in 34 years.

Modi also will address the World Governments Summit in Dubai and inaugurate a new stone-carved Hindu temple near Abu Dhabi on Wednesday while in the UAE. He’ll then travel on to Qatar.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi and UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Saturday said there was an urgent need for developed countries to fulfil the USD 100 billion delivery plan to mitigate and adapt to the effects of climate change.

In a joint statement on climate change issued after talks between the two leaders, India and the UAE highlighted the importance of the global stocktake (GST) of collective action to achieve the goals of the Paris Agreement and its successful conclusion at COP28 scheduled to be held in Dubai later this year.

The weekend meeting in Riyadh between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the national security advisers of the US, UAE, and India underlines the growing strategic convergence between Delhi and Washington in the Gulf. It also highlights India’s new possibilities in the Arabian Peninsula.

The new India-US warmth on the Gulf is a major departure from the traditional approaches to the Middle East in both India and the US. In India, one of the entrenched principles of the Nehruvian foreign policy was the proposition that Delhi must either oppose Washington or keep its distance from it in the Middle East. Read more

PM Modi held wide-ranging discussions with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during which the two leaders lauded the economic partnership and hoped to achieve the target of USD 100 billion in trade before the G-20 meeting in Delhi in September this year.

A Joint Statement issued during the visit said the leaders resolved to further enhance bilateral partnership in the energy field, both in oil, gas, and renewable energy.

“Both sides will take forward their cooperation in Green Hydrogen, solar energy and grid connectivity. Both sides also agreed to increase investment across the energy spectrum, including in India's Strategic Petroleum Reserve Programme,” it said.

It said the leaders acknowledged the joint work on issues of climate change, particularly during India's presidency of the G20 and the UAE's presidency of COP28.

Recognising the importance of food security, the leaders reiterated their resolve to promote the reliability and resilience of food supply chains and expand food and agriculture trade, including through food corridor projects in India, it said. (PTI)

India and the UAE on Saturday agreed to start trade settlement in their currencies and link the Indian Unified Payments Interface with the Gulf country's Instant Payment Platform (IPP) as Prime Minister Narendra Modi held comprehensive talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan here.   According to an official statement, the Reserve Bank of India and the Central Bank of the UAE signed two MoUs for – establishing a framework to promote the use of local currencies viz. the Indian rupee (INR) and the UAE Dirham (AED) for cross-border transactions; and for cooperation for interlinking their payment and messaging systems.

The MoU on establishing a framework for the use of local currencies for transactions between India and UAE, aims to put in place a Local Currency Settlement System (LCSS) to promote the use of INR and AED bilaterally. The MoU covers all current account transactions and permitted capital account transactions, the statement issued by the RBI said.

Creation of the LCSS would enable exporters and importers to invoice and pay in their respective domestic currencies, which in turn would enable the development of an INR-AED foreign exchange market, it said and added that his arrangement would also promote investments and remittances between the two countries. The use of local currencies would optimise transaction costs and settlement time for transactions, including for remittances from Indians residing in UAE, the statement said. (PTI)

Shaped by millennia-old journeys of cultural and economic engagement on the Indian Ocean’s network of exchange, the India-UAE relationship is today more than an economic partnership. It speaks to the Emirates’s deep, fraternal, and strategically important relationship with India, and reinforces the UAE’s position as an economic hub for India to undertake sustainable and diversified growth through our strategic location at the intersection of global trade.

The  India-UAE partnership was forged first on the trade of traditional items, and then strengthened with oil. It found a formal dimension after the creation of the UAE Federation in 1971, and then accelerated in the 1990s, when a liberalised India embraced the opportunity to export to the UAE and markets beyond. The emergence of the UAE as India’s third-largest trading partner has only underlined the positive outlook the two countries share towards economic cooperation. Read more

Why India-France ties are strong, what’s the significance of PM Modi’s visit

Prime Minister Narendra Modi was the Guest of Honour at France’s Bastille Day parade in Paris on Friday. The visit coincides with 25 years of the oldest among India’s almost 30 strategic partnerships around the world — and one of the few that has been marked by “total convergence” ever since the two nations committed themselves to it in 1998. Four French Presidents and three Indian Prime Ministers have nurtured this relationship over the last quarter century. Manmohan Singh was the chief guest at the 2009 parade, which opened with Indian tri-services personnel marching to Saare Jahan Se Achha and Kadam Kadam Badhaye Ja. Nicolas Sarkozy was President at the time. The two countries commenced their strategic partnership, India’s first, immediately after India’s nuclear tests, at a time when most Western capitals had turned their backs on New Delhi.

India-UAE Joint Statement during the visit of Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi to UAE

President of the United Arab Emirates His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi met in Abu Dhabi on 15 July 2023. Both sides noted that this was the fifth visit of Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi to the UAE in the last eight years. Prime Minister Modi last visited the UAE in June 2022 when he visited Abu Dhabi to meet HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to convey his greetings as His Highness assumed the presidency of the UAE. In 2015, Prime Minister Modi became the first Prime Minister of India to visit the UAE in 34 years. This visit was followed by the visit of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in 2016, then in 2017, when HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan was the Chief Guest at India’s Republic Day celebrations. Moreover, the India-UAE relationship was formally elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership during the visit of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan to India in 2017. The leaders expressed satisfaction that UAE-India relations have witnessed tremendous progress on all fronts. India-UAE trade rose to USD 85 billion in 2022, making the UAE India’s third-largest trading partner for the year 2022-23 and India's second-largest export destination. India is the UAE’s second largest trading partner. In February 2022, India became the first country with which the UAE signed a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA). Bilateral trade has increased by approximately 15% since the entry into force of the CEPA on 1 May 2022. The leaders noted the significant global roles played by both countries in 2023, with India’s presidency of the G20 and the UAE’s presidency of COP28. The UAE side appreciated the hosting of the Voice of Global South Summit by India in January 2023. The Indian side also commended the UAE for its instrumental role in promoting the Global South's interests at COP28 and making COP28 a "COP of action.” Both sides also looked forward to further cooperation in plurilateral fora such as I2U2 and the UAE-France-India trilateral cooperation initiative. They noted that such platforms provide greater opportunities for both countries to elevate the partnership to new heights. Today, in Abu Dhabi, the President of the UAE HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Hon'ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi witnessed the following: I. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the establishment of a framework to promote the use of local currencies (INR-AED) for cross-border transactions by Governors of the respective Central Banks. II. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding on interlinking payment and messaging systems by Governors of the respective Central Banks. III. The signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for planning to establish Indian Institute of Technology – Delhi in Abu Dhabi. The leaders discussed that developing the Local Currency Settlement System between the two countries to settle bilateral trade is a reflection of mutual confidence. Moreover, it underlines the robustness of the economies in both countries and enhances the economic engagement between the UAE and India. The leaders expressed their interest in strengthening cooperation in the payment systems area by enabling integration between their instant payment systems to process cross-border transactions between the UAE and India more efficiently. Such cooperation will also include the mutual acceptance of domestic card schemes by interlinking national card switches. Integration between these systems will enhance access to payment services for the benefit of the citizens and residents of the two countries. The leaders reiterated their resolve to further strengthen investment ties between the two countries. In this context, they appreciated the efforts of the bilateral High-Level Joint Task Force of Investments. They acknowledged that the UAE became the fourth largest investor in India in 2022-2023, compared to the seventh in 2021-2022. They appreciated the plan of Abu Dhabi Investment Authority (ADIA) to set up a presence in Gujarat International Finance Tec-City (GIFT City), a financial free zone in Gujarat, in the next few months. This will further facilitate investment opportunities for the UAE in India. The leaders also discussed the significance of the tripartite MoU between the Ministry of Education of India, Indian Institute of Technology (IIT Delhi) and Abu Dhabi Department of Education & Knowledge (ADEK) for the establishment of IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi. In February last year, during the Virtual Summit between the two leaders, they agreed to establish the Indian Institute of Technology in the UAE. Both sides have worked tirelessly over the past two years to make this vision a reality. The two leaders expressed their endorsement and approval that IIT Delhi – Abu Dhabi will become operational by January 2024 by offering a Master’s program in Energy Transition and Sustainability. Other Bachelor, Master’s and Ph.D. Level programs are expected to be offered from September 2024, in addition to establishing research centers in the fields of sustainable energy, climate studies, computing, and data sciences. The leaders resolved to further enhance bilateral partnership in the energy field, both in oil, gas, and renewable energy. Both sides will take forward their cooperation in Green Hydrogen, solar energy and grid connectivity. Both sides also agreed to increase investment across the energy spectrum, including in India’s Strategic Petroleum Reserve Programme. The leaders acknowledged the joint work on issues of climate change, particularly during India’s presidency of the G20 and the UAE’s presidency of COP28. They resolved to work together to make COP28 a success for all. Recognizing the importance of food security, the leaders reiterated their resolve to promote the reliability and resilience of food supply chains and expand food and agriculture trade, including through food corridors projects in India. The UAE side will complete its consultations with various Indian stakeholders swiftly for the early realization of projects in this area. The leaders highlighted the importance of the health sector and scope of cooperation bilaterally and in third countries by energizing ongoing health cooperation and further diversifying it. The potential of both countries to become a reliable alternative in global health supply chains of vaccines and medicines was highlighted. Opportunities for collaboration in the growing health infrastructure in the UAE and India were also discussed. The leaders noted that people-to-people contacts, which date back centuries, are one of the strongest and most important pillars of the historic India-UAE ties. The UAE expressed appreciation that the large Indian diaspora continues to play a significant role in the society and economy of the UAE and further reinforces bilateral relations. The leaders agreed to further strengthen bilateral collaboration to strengthen maritime security and connectivity in the region to promote prosperity in India, the UAE, and the shared neighborhood. They also agreed to enhance defense exchanges, sharing of experiences, training, and capacity building. The leaders reaffirmed their joint commitment to the fight against extremism and terrorism, including cross-border terrorism, in all forms, at both the regional and international levels. They agreed to further deepen their bilateral cooperation in the fight against terrorism, terrorist financing, and extremism. In this context, they emphasized the importance of promoting the values of peace, moderation, coexistence, and tolerance among peoples and stressed the need for all forms of extremism, hate speech, discrimination, and incitement to be renounced. Both leaders emphasized the importance of multilateralism and called for collective action to promote a just, rules-based global order. The two leaders also expressed satisfaction on the coordination between the two sides on UN Security Council matters, especially in 2022, when both countries served as non-permanent members of the UNSC. Prime Minister Modi commended the UAE’s achievements during the UAE’s term as an elected member of the Security Council. The UAE reiterated its endorsement of India’s bid for permanent membership of the reformed UNSC. Prime Minister Modi thanked HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan for his warm hospitality to his delegation. Prime Minister Modi is looking forward to the participation of HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan in the G20 Leaders’ Summit on 9-10 September 2023 in New Delhi. Both leaders reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, exploring emerging areas of collaboration, and promoting peace, stability, and prosperity in the region and beyond.

Applying for a Dubai visa is an easy process. But, just to make sure you are on track, avoid any possible last-minute confusion by going through these guidelines. Here are the rules and regulations:

  • The type of Dubai visa depends on several factors like your purpose of visit, nationality, and duration.
  • Based on your travel plan, make sure to apply for the right kind of visa.
  • You can book flight tickets to Dubai before applying for a visa.
  • The tourist visas are valid up to 60 days from the date of issue. However, a transit visa, the 48-hour and 96-hour visa, is only valid for 30 days after issuing the visa.
  • If you hold a transit visa, both the entry and exit have to be from Dubai Airport .
  • Dubai visa for Indian nationals is electronic (e-visa). You will need a printout of the e-visa to show it to the immigration officer.
  • Apply for the Dubai visa at least a month prior to your travel.
  • To be eligible for a travel visa, your passport should be valid for at least 6 months.
  • Remember to carry scanned copies of all your documents - Passport, confirmed return ticket and passport size photographs.
  • Before travelling, check the updated rules and regulations, on carrying of Covid-19 vaccination certificate or a negative RT-PCR test result, from your local government sites/airlines.
  • Incomplete application is a major reason why a visa gets rejected. If you give false information such as inconsistency with the travel dates, or damaged passport and tampered documents, the visa will get rejected.
  • If you failed to apply for a visa extension and overstayed during your previous travel, it is likely your visa may get rejected.
  • Handwritten passports are no longer accepted.
  • Any error on application with false names, spelling mistakes, or wrong date of birth is not accepted.
  • Another chance your Dubai visa may get rejected is if you did not use your previous visa.
  • Your Dubai visa is likely to get rejected or delayed if your photograph is blurred or has certain marks on it.
  • Avoid mentioning your profession as unskilled as this may affect your chances of getting the visa. However, always give correct information. Do not lie on the application.
  • Having a clean criminal record is always a good way to go. UAE will not accept visa application if you have any past criminal history.
  • If you have a Dubai residence visa and choose to leave the country without cancelling the visa, then it is likely that Dubai immigration may reject your tourist visa.

Why did my visa get rejected?

You can appeal to the UAE High Commission by sending them a mail or visiting the centre with your concerns.

Will I get a refund if my visa gets rejected?

No. Once you have paid the visa fee, it will not be refunded.

Is the UAE visa different from Dubai visa?

No. Oftentimes people get confused with these two types of visas. Since Dubai is one of the popular cities in the UAE, the UAE visa is basically synonymous with the Dubai visa. Travellers use this term interchangeably while applying for the visa.

Can I reapply for Dubai visa after it has been rejected?

Yes, you can reapply for a tourist visa even though it has been rejected. However, if you have appealed to the UAE commission for the reason for your visa rejection, you will need to wait for the response.

What are the different types of tourist visa for Indian nationals?

Based on your duration of stay, you can apply for Dubai visa for 14 days, 30 days, or 90 days. These visas can be extended from Dubai itself. However, it is not applicable for transit visas.

What is the Golden Visa for the UAE?

Golden Visa is a newly introduced scheme where an outsider can apply for a long-term stay. Indians are eligible for this visa.

Visit visa holders who are flying from India to the UAE are being urged to book their roundtrip tickets on the same airline, travel agents said, citing advisories from some airlines.

Some travellers were reportedly unable to fly to the UAE because their return flights to India were booked on a different airline.

“Advisories from some airlines state that if the journey to the UAE is booked with them, the journey to India must also be booked with the same airline. Failure to comply with this new requirement may result in passengers being denied boarding,” Taha Siddique, director of Siddique Travels, told Khaleej Times.

“Some of my clients faced this issue as their ticket to Dubai was booked on one airline and the return was booked on another. I am now advising my clients that it would be better to book both legs of the journey on the same carrier,” said Siddique.

Stay up to date with the latest news. Follow KT on WhatsApp Channels.

This was supported by other travel agents. “I have also seen advisories from certain carriers that they will not be accepting travellers with tickets from different airlines,” said Noushad Hassan, managing director of Alhind Business Centre. “However, these advisories were mostly received by our office in India and not the UAE. In any case, it is advisable to book on the same carrier to avoid unnecessary complications.”

With more people being stopped from boarding their flights from India, agents are advising caution. “I believe it is better to book onward and return journey tickets on the same airline for hassle-free travel,” added Libin Varghese from Rooh Tourism.

Strict checks

The advisory on tickets comes after stricter checks were reportedly introduced at airports in Dubai. Travel agents said some passengers had to fly back home for not meeting certain requirements.

“We have seen cases of up to 40 passengers being returned on the same flight,” said Noushad.

As Khaleej Times reported earlier, travellers to the UAE must carry funds equivalent to Dh3,000, either in cash or on a credit card, and provide valid proof of accommodation, such as a hotel booking or a letter from a host in the country, including a copy of their Emirates ID. Additionally, they must have a confirmed return ticket to ensure compliance with visit visa conditions. Failure to do so could lead to the traveller being sent back to his or her home country.

“When a passenger is denied entry by the immigration section of any airport, the passenger’s return becomes the airline’s responsibility. In this process, the carriers lose money on seats,” said Bharath Aidasani, managing partner at Pluto Travels. “To avoid these circumstances, travellers who are not carrying the required documents and cash, are being denied boarding at the departure airports.”

Travel demand soars

With the summer season coming up, Aidasani said that more people are travelling from India to the UAE. “It's summer in India and people want to travel. The closest and ideal destination from any part of India is the UAE. We can see flights with full capacity and the airfares from India have also shot up,” said Aidasani.

Due to these stricter checks, travel agents are advising their passengers to ensure they have all the necessary documents before travelling. “In the last two days, we had a few passengers who were denied boarding passes at the Indian airports. Strict checks are being done so that they gain entry into the UAE and the airline doesn’t lose their seats,” said Mir Waseem Raja, manager at International Travel Services.

“We have seen an increase in the number of travellers being stopped at the airport because they do not have the required amount or proof of accommodation in the country,” said Libin.

uae visit to india

NASA Administrator Bill Nelson will travel to India and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) for a series of meetings beginning Monday, Nov. 27, with key government officials.

Nelson also will meet with space officials in both countries to deepen bilateral cooperation across a broad range of innovation and research-related areas, especially in human exploration and Earth science.

The visit to India fulfills a commitment through the United States and India initiative on Critical and Emerging Technology spearheaded by President Joe Biden. Nelson will visit several locations in India, including the Bengaluru-based facilities where the NISAR spacecraft, a joint Earth-observing mission between NASA and the Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO), is undergoing testing and integration for launch in 2024. NISAR is short for NASA ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar.

As the first satellite mission between NASA and ISRO, NISAR is a revolutionary Earth-observing instrument, the first in the Earth System Observatory, that will measure Earth’s changing ecosystems, dynamic surfaces, and ice masses providing information about biomass, natural hazards, sea level rise, and groundwater, key information to guide efforts related to climate change, hazard mitigation, agriculture, and more.

While in the UAE, Nelson will participate in the 2023 United Nations Climate Change Conference , highlighting NASA’s role as a global leader in providing decisionmakers with critical Earth-science data. It will be the first time a NASA administrator will have attended the conference.

Students in each country also will have the opportunity to meet with Nelson to discuss science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) education and their roles as members of the Artemis Generation.

UAE visiting visa: Airlines give strict directions to comply with rules

 alt=

Against the backdrop of the UAE recently issuing guidelines relating to its visiting visa, airline companies have given strict directions to people who are planning to visit the country on visit and tourist visas for a hassle-free travel experience. The passengers entering the UAE on visit and tourist visas should have a passport with a validity of six months, a return ticket, hotel reservation details and a fixed amount for travel expenses. In a circular issued by Indian companies such as Indigo and Air India Express to the travel agents, the airlines have stated that the passengers with a month-long visa should have 3,000 dirhams (Rs 68,000) in their pocket and those with a visa having a validity of more than one month should carry 5,000 dirhams (Rs 1.13 lakh).

If the passengers are planning to stay with their friends or relatives in the UAE, their addresses and phone numbers should be produced. Indigo has made it clear that passengers without requisite documents won’t be allowed to travel to the UAE. The strictures had been issued against the backdrop of the UAE toughening its visiting visa rules. Many people couldn’t fly to the UAE due to a lack of proper travel papers in the recent times. The airlines gave the directions to the travel agents in a bid to clear the confusion about the changes in the UAE visiting visa rules.

Indian expats in UAE ditch work to watch poll results, organise celebrations

Many stay glued to news as results of world’s largest democratic election come out

new

Dubai: From ditching work to follow live updates to organizing cake-cutting ceremonies and celebration parties, several Indian expats in the UAE had an eventful day as the results of the 18th general elections in India were declared on Tuesday.

Expats from various Indian states tuned in to national and local television channels, websites, and social media since early morning to follow the outcome of the world’s largest democracy’s elections. Several expat groups held their own exit poll predictions, with winners receiving prizes.

With an estimated 3.5 million Indians living in the UAE, thousands had flown back to India to cast their votes during the marathon six-week, seven-phase election.

In Dubai, dozens of ardent supporters of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi gathered at a villa in Al Barsha to watch the live coverage of the poll results. The hall was decorated with saffron-coloured balloons and featured two life-size cutouts of Modi.

Meenakshi Bhasin, the host, said she was “fervently praying for the country to remain in safe and strong hands that will keep the flag of India flying high in the world.”

uae visit to india

Dr. Nishi Singh, an attendee, mentioned that many people took time off work or a full day’s leave to join the event. “The excitement for the 2024 election results mounted by the minute as we NRIs in Dubai celebrated with prayers, song, and dance. Truly, the festival of democracy of the most populous nation peaked today as we eagerly awaited to see who would take over the reins of the government for the next five years.”

Majority in question

Another group of friends from different sectors and political affiliations gathered at an apartment in International City to watch the results live.

“Since the last general elections, we’ve come together like this to watch all major election results. Today, we had to take leave from work as it is a working day,” said Praveen Kumar, an IT consultant and a member of the medical volunteering team with the Indian Consulate in Dubai.

He expressed his desire for a stable government with a clear majority, noting, “In the absence of a clear majority, it will be difficult to get bills passed in parliament. It will not be a smooth ride for BJP like last time as they will have to depend on the allies.”

Voters’ delight

uae visit to india

Sreerag Shine, a student from the UAE who cast his vote in Kerala, said he felt proud that he contributed to the democratic system in India and his vote mattered. “I voted for Congress MP of Attingal constituency, Adoor Prakash. The competition was really tough and he won with the least majority in Kerala. That means my vote did make an impact,” said Sreerag who is currently preparing for an entrance exam after completing grade 12 from GEMS Our Own English High School in Sharjah.

Priyadarshee Panigrahi, whose father Sriballav Panigrahi was a former minister and parliamentarian from Odisha, had undertaken a 20 hour-journey via air, rail and road modes to his hometown to cast his vote last month. The head of the MENA operations of a multinational company did not fail to keep track of the results even though he had to travel to Qatar for work.

“I was glued to TV channels through their websites and various news portals since early morning, grasping election news and various discussions before I headed to work. Elections are ‘festivals of democracy’ and the people have spoken. The results and trends are a bit surprising, and it looks like there will be a strong opposition,” he said in a WhatsApp message.

Celebration time

uae visit to india

Jitendra Vaidya, president of Indian People’s Forum, UAE, said the members would be holding a celebration on Tuesday night. “It was wonderful to see that he [Modi] is on his way to form the government for the third time in India. He has taken India to a different level internationally and he will definitely make India the third largest economy,” he added.

Meanwhile, a cake cutting ceremony was planned by members of the Indian Association Sharjah celebrating the success of the United Democratic Front in Kerala, said Nisar Thalangara, president of Indian Association Sharjah.

uae visit to india

“We need a strong, inclusive central government without divisions. The NDA’s expectation of 400 seats was not met, highlighting their failure in many states. It’s time for them to correct their mistakes. As expats, we have long-standing concerns like high airfares during peak travel times and the inability to vote. We need a mechanism for overseas voting and better medical support for aging expats. The UAE always supports whoever is in power in India. So, I am sure our ties will become stronger.”

India-UAE Joint Statement during the visit of PM to UAE

facebook

India-UAE trade rose to USD 85 billion in 2022, making the UAE India’s third-largest trading partner for the year 2022-23 and India’s second-largest export destination.

The Indian side also commended the UAE for its instrumental role in promoting the Global South’s interests at COP28 and making COP28 a “COP of action.” Both sides also looked forward to further cooperation in plurilateral fora such as I2U2 and the UAE-France-India trilateral cooperation initiative. They noted that such platforms provide greater opportunities for both countries to elevate the partnership to new heights.

Today, in Abu Dhabi, the President of the UAE HH Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan and the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India Shri Narendra Modi witnessed the following: I.

Global Measles

  • Many international destinations are reporting increased numbers of cases of measles.
  • Travelers are at risk of measles if they have not been fully vaccinated at least two weeks prior to departure or have not had measles in the past and travel internationally.
  • The majority of measles cases imported into the United States occur in unvaccinated U.S. residents who become infected during international travel.
  • All international travelers should be fully vaccinated against measles with the measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine, including an early dose for infants 6–11 months, according to CDC’s measles vaccination recommendations for international travel .
  • Travelers should seek medical care if they develop a rash, high fever, cough, runny nose, or red, watery eyes. Measles is highly contagious. Travelers with suspected measles should notify the healthcare facility before visiting so staff can implement precautions to prevent spread within the facility.

Measles Global Map

Measles is  a highly contagious virus that lives in the nose and throat mucus of an infected person. It can spread to others through coughing and sneezing .

The measles virus can live for up to two hours in an airspace or on a surface after an infected person leaves an area. If other people breathe the contaminated air or touch the infected surface, then touch their eyes, noses, or mouths, they can become infected. People can spread measles up to four days before and four days after a rash.

Signs and symptoms of measles include maculopapular rash, high fever, and a cough, runny nose, or red, watery eyes.

Measles can be severe in all age groups and can lead to serious complications, such as pneumonia (infection of the lungs) and death. Several groups are more likely to suffer from measles complications, including children younger than five years of age, adults older than 20 years of age, pregnant women, and people with compromised immune systems, such as from leukemia or HIV infection. Common complications are ear infections and diarrhea. Serious complications include pneumonia and encephalitis (infection of the brain).

What is the current situation?

Measles is an ongoing risk around the world. Health officials in the countries listed below have reported large measles outbreaks.

  • Afghanistan
  • Burkina Faso
  • Central African Republic
  • Cote d’Ivoire
  • Democratic Republic of the Congo
  • Equatorial Guinea
  • Philippines
  • Republic of the Congo
  • Saudi Arabia
  • South Sudan
  • United Arab Emirates

Measles spreads rapidly and may become a risk to travelers in places not included on the list above. CDC recommends all travelers are fully vaccinated against measles when traveling to any international destination.

What can travelers do to protect themselves and others from measles?

Travelers are at risk of measles if they have not been fully vaccinated two weeks prior to departure and travel internationally.

Vaccination with a measles-containing vaccine is the best way to make sure that you are protected. Infants 6 through 11 months of age should receive one dose of MMR vaccine. Infants who had one dose of MMR vaccine before their first birthday should follow the recommended schedule and get another dose at 12–15 months and a final dose at 4–6 years. Children 12 months of age and older, teenagers, and adults who do not have presumptive evidence of immunity against measles should get two doses of MMR vaccine separated by at least 28 days. If the child received a first dose with measles-mumps-rubella-varicella (MMRV), they should wait 3 months before their second dose.

If you are not sure if you or your travel companions are fully protected against measles, schedule an appointment to see your clinician at least 6 weeks before traveling so that you have enough time to get vaccinated.

Some people should not get a measles-containing vaccine or should wait. If you don’t think you can safely receive a measles-containing vaccine, talk to your clinician and consider making alternative travel plans.

What can clinicians do?

A self-report of measles vaccination or self-reported history of measles infection is not adequate evidence of protection. Clinicians should vaccinate anyone 6 months or older traveling overseas who does not have written documentation of vaccination or other evidence of measles immunity . Infants aged 6–11 months should be vaccinated with one dose before travel*. For international travelers 12 months or older, 2 doses at least 28 days apart are recommended.

*Infants who get one dose of MMR vaccine before their first birthday should be revaccinated according to the routine ACIP schedule (one dose at 12 through 15 months of age and a final dose at 4–6 years).
