Capri island, Italy

Cruise Day 2: Naples/Capri, Italy

On day 2 of your cruise, your ship docks in Naples, southern Italy. What a way to start your cruising vacation! You are just a 1-hour ferry ride from the island of Capri to Naples. We recommend that you use this day to visit beautiful Capri.

Emperor Augustus’ once a private paradise and now a modern-day celebrity hideaway, Capri is a luxury holiday destination.

Capri – how to get there and what to do

Some shore excursions to Capri with the cruise line can be costly. You can make your way there quite easily. Most cruise ships take you to Terminal Stazione Marittima in Naples (always check with your cruise line). The hydrofoil from nearby Molo Beverello takes under one hour to reach Capri. You will need to queue to get your tickets.

The price of a one-way ticket to Capri is around 25 euros per person, but be sure to buy a return ticket for a specific departure time. Queueing for tickets on the island can take a very long, and you do not want to miss getting back to the port in time to board your cruise ship or tender boat.

Note the time your cruise ship or tender boat departs Naples, and make sure you take a hydrofoil from Capri at the latest 2 hours before ship departure.

If all this seems too complicated, book tickets with your cruise line for your trip to Capri, then you can explore yourself once you are there.

It can be a choppy ride over to Capri if the sea is rough, so if you get seasick quickly, you may want to take seasick tablets or put on a seaband before you start your day.

The towns of Marina Grande, Ana Capri, and Capri

The island has three towns: Marina Grande, your landing point, Anacapri, and Capri. We recommend downloading a map of the island before traveling to orientate yourself.

When you arrive by ferry or hydrofoil, you will be in the village of Marina Grande. This is the area of the marina and the port on Capri, where all transport to the island departs.

You can get to Ana Capri and Capri from Marina Grande. Both towns are closed to traffic in the center, so once there, all exploring is done on foot. If you want to go further afield and explore the island’s coastline and nature, you can rent a scooter at Marina Grande.

The town of Anacapri

Anacapri is the quieter side of the island and the highest point. It is excellent for nature lovers visiting Mount Solaro for panoramic views. The bus takes about 20 minutes from Marina Grande to Anacapri. Once in the town, a chair lift from Piazza Vittoria to Monte Solaro takes approximately 10 minutes.

The town of Capri

Shoppers and foodies should spend some time in the exclusive boutiques and cafes in Capri, the island’s more busy, cosmopolitan side.

Take the cable car or bus from Marina Grande to the main square, Piazza Umberto (the Piazzetta), in the center of Capri town. There are small buses available that take approximately 20 people per bus. You can buy a ticket at the ticket booth in the arrivals harbor of Marina Grande. It is walkable within about 20 minutes, but the road is steep, narrow, and winding, and in the heat, it feels a long way.

Alternatively, you can use the Capri Funicular (also referred to as the Capri cable car); the red train takes you to the Piazzetta in just a few minutes.

Visiting The Blue Grotto and Faraglioni, the trio of sea giants

When you get to Marina Grande, there are also plenty of options to book a small boat to see the fantastic illuminated caves of the Blue Grotto. This is, without doubt, the most famous attraction on Capri, together with sailing through Faraglioni’s stunning towering rock formations.

From Marina Grande, there is a private jetty where you buy tickets for a boat tour in a small wooden row boat. The entrance fee to the Blue Grotto is around 18 euros per person, and it’s usual to tip your captain.

It’s an unforgettable experience!

Amalfi Coast and Capri excursion

Suppose time and budget allow, and you want to squeeze even more sights into your shore excursion. In that case, we highly recommend a private boat tour from Naples port along the Amalfi coast to visit Amalfi and the stunning Positano, then over to Capri Island—a fantastic way to see this beautiful coastline. Viator offers a great trip.

Visit the legend of Pompei

Instead of Capri, a history enthusiast will love visiting the ancient ruins of Pompei, buried by the 79 A.D. eruption of Mount Vesuvius. Walk around the ruins yourselves with a guidebook. Or, better still, join a guided tour to hear an expert’s stories behind the ruins.

Unfortunately, with just one day in the port of Naples, you will not have time to visit Capri and Pompei. But hopefully, this will not be your last visit to southern Italy. The whole of the Amalfi coastline deserves a trip in itself. When you visit, we recommend basing yourself in Positano. You can rent a car or use local transport to all the coastal towns. This coastline will be one of the prettiest places you will ever visit.

Cruise Day 3: Cruising Day at Sea

Today you can relax and spend time on your fantastic cruise ship, Wonder of the Seas. Sailing from Naples to Barcelona takes time, so you are on board all day.

Packed with fun activities, entertainment, great restaurants, sports facilities, and excellent kids’ clubs, make the most of the ship today.

Cruise Day 4: Barcelona, Spain

Barcelona is known for trendy boutiques, fantastic architecture, and outstanding cuisine. The Catalan capital is our favorite Spanish city. It has everything: shopping, beaches, stunning architecture, great food, world-renowned art, friendly locals, and cozy neighborhoods.

We have many great ideas for how to spend a day in Barcelona. Our Barcelona – The Essential Guide article offers detailed itineraries for five spectacular sightseeing days in this unique historic city. Choose the one that suits you best:

  • The Gothic Quarter (Barri Gòtic)
  • Barceloneta, the Beach & Port Olympic
  • Parc Guell and Camp Nou

Barcelona is an accessible city, and the port is close to the center. Choose the itinerary that suits you best, or book a guided tour with your cruise line if you don’t feel like finding your way around.

On our Barcelona page, you will also find detailed information on how to return to the port again after your day exploring here.

Cruise Day 5: Palma de Mallorca, Spain

The Bay of Palma is a beautiful destination and the capital of the Spanish island Mallorca.

We love Palma’s rich cultural heritage with stunning architecture and works of art. And of course the wide open beaches, water sports and deep sea fishing on offer.

You can take a leisurely walk into the city center from the port. If you opt not to book an excursion with the cruise line and want to tour the city yourself, head towards Palma Cathedral. Located in the city’s heart, it’s an excellent spot to start exploring independently.

Portixol is a 10-minute walk from Palma Center if you prefer a beach. Here you will find plenty of local restaurants serving lunch with a view.

There are many bike and electric scooter rentals along the beachfront, and on a hot day, it’s a great way to explore the coastline. If you want to book in advance, then Viator has trustworthy suppliers.

Visit Soller from Palma Port

Suppose you have visited Palma before or want to discover another region of the island. In that case, one of our favorite shore excursions from the port of Palma is to Valldemossa and the historic train journey to Sóller on the Orange Express. Nestled in the Tramuntana Mountains, Valldemossa exudes old-world charm with its cobblestone streets and picturesque architecture. Discover the former Carthusian monastery, where composer Frédéric Chopin once sought inspiration.

You can also take the Orange Express to Sóller. The Orange Express, a vintage wooden train, takes you through olive groves to Sóller, known for its art nouveau architecture and citrus orchards. This excursion seamlessly combines history and natural beauty for an unforgettable Mediterranean experience.

Cruise Day 6: Provence, France (Port of call: Marseilles)

Marseilles is a rather unattractive industrial port. However, once in the lovely historical city center, visit sights such as Quai des Belges, the Chateau d’If, and Notre Dame de la Garde.

If you prefer to visit without a guide, take the cruise ship’s shuttle into the marina area. From here, you can head to the friendly neighborhood of Le Panier. Walk along the main shopping street of Rue St-Fereol, and shop local street vendors and unique boutiques. You’ll find many art galleries and antique shops. Look out for their famous soap as a great souvenir .

Or enjoy their world-famous signature dish, bouillabaisse, at any of the restaurants in town. Remember to stick to the busy touristy areas of Marseille and beware of pickpockets.

The best excursions from the port of Marseilles

We recommend that you visit the port of Marseilles to experience the Provence region and see France as it was centuries ago. There are some fantastic excursions available as transport is a must.

Aix-en-Provence

No Marseille cruise excursion would be complete without a venture to the charming town of Aix-en-Provence. This picturesque haven is a haven for art, culture, and relaxation. As you stroll along its graceful boulevards, shaded by towering plane trees, you’ll discover elegant fountains, artisan boutiques, and inviting cafes.

Aix’s architectural beauty is epitomized by its stunning Cours Mirabeau, lined with 17th-century mansions adorned with wrought-iron balconies. The town’s vibrant arts scene and its association with Post-Impressionist painter Paul Cézanne add an extra layer of allure, making Aix-en-Provence a must-see destination during your Mediterranean cruise.

Arles, Les Baux, and St. Remy

Another fantastic shore excursion combines the treasures of Arles, St. Remy, and Les Baux, creating a truly remarkable experience for cruise travelers.

Begin your adventure in Arles, where the relics of ancient Roman architecture stand testament to a bygone era. From the iconic amphitheater to the mesmerizingly preserved Roman baths, Arles immerses you in a sense of antiquity.

The journey then takes you to St. Remy, a picturesque Provençal town renowned for its charming streets and squares. Here, you can explore the Saint-Paul-de-Mausole Monastery, which once housed the brilliant yet tormented Vincent van Gogh.

And finally, a visit to Les Baux introduces you to a captivating medieval village perched upon a rocky outcrop. With its commanding views over the Provence countryside, this destination offers a glimpse into a past marked by feudal splendor. Visiting these three captivating areas in a single excursion paints a vivid picture of their unique histories and demonstrates the enduring allure of the Mediterranean’s cultural gems.

Calanques National Park

The Calanques National Park is about a half hour from the port. The rugged coastline calls for good walking shoes. There is also the possibility of a boat trip from Marseilles to Cassis, which takes miles of the beautiful coastal landscape.

If you want to go further afield, now is your chance to visit the stunning Alpes Maritimes village of Eze. You will need to book a shore excursion to provide you with the transportation to get there – a scenic journey with panoramic views of the fantastic French landscape.

Arriving in Eze, walk the narrow, winding cobblestone streets and admire the ancient stone buildings and vibrant bougainvillea balconies. The castle ruins are a medieval fortress that transports you back in time as you climb the stone steps to be rewarding with stunning views. If you have time, visit the Jardin Exotique botanical garden, perched on a cliffside, stopping for lunch at the Mas Provencal restaurant. Sitting amid hundreds of fresh floral displays, this is unlike any restaurant you have ever visited.

Cruise Day 7: Florence/Pisa, Italy (Port of call: La Spezia)

On day 7 of your cruise, the Allure is docked in La Spezia, Italy. If you do not want to wander far from the ship, explore art galleries, museums, and castles in La Spezia. Visit the Castle of San Giorgio, located on top of a hill overlooking the port with its magnificent views. Alternatively, take a boat trip up the River Magra to view its medieval bridges and wetlands.

Choosing what to do or which excursion to book for your port of call in La Spezia can be challenging. La Spezia is the entrance port to so many fantastic Italian destinations. You are spoilt for choice. From here, you can visit Cinque Terre, Pisa, or Florence. Each one in itself is great, and the surrounding areas are stunning.

Glorious Cinque Terre

If you want an adventure out in nature and love hiking, choose Cinque Terre. Cinque Terre is a group of five villages that stretch along Italy’s Riviera di Levante, with a dramatic section known as the Cinque Terre National Park. It is a UNESCO World Heritage site. You can visit the five villages, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Corniglia, Vernazza, and Monterosso al Mare.

Book this day out with your cruise line; alternatively, book train tickets or a guided tour in advance. Remember, Cinque Terre is a few hours away from La Spezia, so don’t miss your cruise departure time. We promise – it’s well worth the journey!

An alternative to visiting Cinque Terre is a trip to Pisa or Florence. Pisa may well have been on your bucket list for a long time! Who doesn’t want to stand next to the famous leaning tower?

In our opinion, Florence offers a richer experience. In Florence, you can discover the Uffizi Gallery, where you can view Botticelli’s Birth of Venus and Primavera, climb the world-famous Duomo or walk the postcard-perfect Ponte Vecchio bridge. Don’t worry if you feel you need longer here. Florence is a beautiful destination to visit again. Make this city part of a more extended trip to the region of Tuscany in your future travel plans.

Cruise Day 8: Return to Port of Civitavecchia, Rome, and disembark your cruise

Disembark at Port of Civitavecchia. Head back into Rome to extend your stay if you have booked extra hotel nights. You can book the Civitavecchia Express train, including a bus ticket from the port to the train station. Click to learn how to book a ticket on the Civitavecchia Express train.

Or transfer back to Rome airport with Royal Caribbean’s transfer bus for your flight home.

Book your transfer in advance while you book your cruise because places on board the airport buses can become fully booked. Remember, if you have a morning flight booked to take you home, ask the cruise line for an early checkout from the ship to ensure you get on one of the first transfer buses.

11 Reasons To Put A Mediterranean Cruise On Your Bucket List

A re you dreaming of a cruise to someplace that offers beautiful beaches, lots of historic sites, fine architecture, and tantalizing cuisine? Consider a Mediterranean cruise.

The Mediterranean offers classic landmarks and wonderful weather. There is something truly special about this body of water, which links Europe to Africa and Asia. The coastlines captivate with their timeless beauty, and the cities take your breath away.

On a Mediterranean cruise, you can enjoy stunning seascapes, architectural masterpieces, ancient history, and some of the world’s best art. There is something for everyone in this area.

Let’s look at a few of the reasons why you should put a Mediterranean cruise on your bucket list.

1. Luxury For Less

A Mediterranean cruise will take you to some of the most historic and beautiful places in the entire world. You can visit the ancient ruins of Rome , the architectural wonders of Barcelona , or the incredible beaches of Santorini , along with dozens of other fascinating places.

On this sort of cruise, you really get your money’s worth. You get transportation to a variety of destinations, an elegant cabin, three meals per day, snacks, entertainment, and luxury facilities and service, all for one price. Depending on the type of cabin you select, you could end up paying less than $100 per day per person for everything.

In 2019, we took a nine-night Mediterranean cruise with MSC . We visited Italy, France, Spain, Morocco, and Portugal and stopped at seven port cities. Our room, an internal cabin, cost $92 per person per night. Our friends paid $154 per person per night for a room with a balcony. It was a steal!

Currently, a 13-night Mediterranean cruise with Royal Caribbean — visiting Greece, Turkey, and Italy — costs about $109 per day per person. You can travel in luxury and see many places on your bucket list for a fraction of what it would cost to stay in hotels and travel between cities.

A Mediterranean cruise is an affordable way to see many of the world’s top landmarks without spending your retirement savings.

2. Less Stress

On a cruise, you can experience multiple countries in the Mediterranean without packing and unpacking over and over. Once you are on the ship, you unpack one time — and then enjoy.

There are very few logistics to worry about on the ship. Most Mediterranean countries accept euros, which means you won’t need to constantly change currency. Destinations outside of the eurozone are usually happy to accept euros, too.

And unless you are into shopping, you won’t need to spend money when you’re on a ship-sponsored excursion.

When in another country, it is often stressful to try to communicate and read road signs and maps in a different language. On a Mediterranean cruise, you won’t have to worry about any of that.

You will spend your time dining on world-class cuisine, sipping cocktails or wine, attending theater shows, lounging around the pool, getting massages, or simply relaxing and reading up on your next port of call. While you are having fun, your ship will be carrying you to the next exciting new destination.

3. Maximize Sightseeing Time

Imagine waking up somewhere new and exciting every day. A Mediterranean cruise lets you visit multiple cities and countries without the hassle of regular transportation. You’re taken from place to place while you sleep at night or while you are having fun aboard the ship during the day.

The Mediterranean is ideal for port-intensive itineraries geared toward exploring the region.

On our last cruise, we visited six different ports and had three days at sea, so we felt like we got plenty of sightseeing time.

4. Stop In Mesmerizing Cities

Everyone has a wish list of world-famous cities they want to see. On a Mediterranean cruise, you’ll be able to tick some of those cities off your bucket list. During your time at port, you’ll have plenty of time to explore the best attractions each destination has to offer.

Are any of these standout Mediterranean destinations on your list of must-sees? If so, consider a Mediterranean cruise.

  • Barcelona , with its mind-boggling Sagrada Familia and wonderful beaches
  • Monaco, a playground for the rich and famous with opulent palaces and delightful fountain parks
  • Gibraltar , with its military fortress upon the rock at the mouth of the Mediterranean
  • Venice , with its magical canals, islands, and gondolas
  • Pisa , with its famous tower and many stunning churches and palaces
  • Mykonos , with its ancient Greek ruins
  • Malaga , with its stunning Moorish architecture
  • Rome , home of the Vatican, the Colosseum, and the Pantheon
  • Dubrovnik , with its medieval fortress featured in Game of Thrones

5. Snap Spectacular Photos

There is no end to the photo opportunities you’ll have on a Mediterranean cruise, both on the ship and at the different ports. You will find picturesque scenery everywhere you turn. But don’t just capture the grand scenes — take photos of the little details that make your trip memorable. Some ships offer photography workshops for passengers.

6. Experience The Local Culture

While the countries around the Mediterranean share certain traditions and customs, each country is unique. Part of the fun of cruising is visiting these destinations, meeting the locals, and experiencing a bit of their way of life. There’s a new learning opportunity at every port, complete with a new atmosphere, new people, and new food.

7. Outstanding Service And Amenities

The service and quality of amenities on most cruise ships are at the luxury level. The pools, the hot tubs, the views, the adult-only areas, the multicourse meals, the room service — I could go on and on.

8. Make Friends From Around The World

It’s easy to make friends with people from all walks of life and all parts of the world when you’re on a cruise ship. You’ll meet all kinds of friendly folks at the art auction, around the pool, playing the slots, at dinner, and participating in the cruise ship’s many activities. If you enjoy getting to know new people, you will certainly be able to do so.

And if you go on the cruise ship’s excursions, you’ll have an opportunity to meet the locals as well.

When you’re ready for an evening to yourselves, you can easily have that, too. A cruise provides as much socializing as you desire.

9. Learn About Ancient History, Art, And Architecture

A trip around the Mediterranean is a must to learn about the many civilizations that have called Europe home. A Mediterranean cruise offers a fascinating glimpse into centuries of history and the origins of Western civilization.

In Athens, you’ll visit dozens of ancient ruins and learn about the city’s contributions to art, architecture, politics, theater, and philosophy. In Genoa, you’ll walk the streets where Christopher Columbus once walked, and in Rome, you’ll see artwork by masters like Michelangelo and Raphael.

10. Authentic Dishes And Flavors

On a Mediterranean cruise, you’ll get to try lots of unique cuisine. Most ships prepare authentic dishes that allow you to taste the flavors of the cultural hot spots you’ll be visiting. When we visited Morocco, several Moroccan dishes were on the dinner menu. When we visited Spain, Spanish dishes were on the menu.

Aside from being a treat for the taste buds, the Mediterranean diet is incredibly healthy. You can expect plenty of fresh fruits and vegetables — and don’t forget the sprinkles of olive oil!

11. Enjoy Europe’s Best Beaches

Last but not least, a Mediterranean cruise will take you to some of Europe’s most exclusive coastal destinations. The French Riviera offers lots of glitz and glamour as you rub shoulders with the rich and famous in Saint-Tropez or go star-spotting in Monte Carlo.

The Mediterranean boasts some of the world’s most gorgeous beaches, too. Chances are your ship will stop at a few of them.

A Mediterranean cruise is truly a bucket-list trip, and it’s something everyone should experience at least once.

BROWSE THE BEST CRUISES

One of our favourite things about a cruise is that you can visit multiple bucket-list destinations in one holiday and discover new treasures along the way. The best cruises let you explore places which are difficult to reach on foot, like some of Scotland’s most remote islands and Norway 's Arctic villages.

They also open up spectacular views you wouldn’t get on land, such as fairytale castles dotted along the Danube or the rolling vineyards flanking the Douro Valley .

Choosing a cruise means seeking new adventures, perhaps travelling to a continent you’ve never set foot in before or trying new activities like hiking, wildlife spotting or cooking . There are other ways to expand your horizons on a cruise too, such as seeing some local entertainment or making new friends on board.

As it’s become ever-more important to us to take a stress-free holiday, we've rounded up the very best cruise packages that won’t disappoint, with everything from the best river cruises to amazing cruises for couples and excellent cruises around the UK .

It doesn't matter when you're looking to sail either, as these cruises take in all the seasons. Fancy a wintery adventure? We've got an epic Norwegian expedition cruise for that. Feel like a spring cruise to escape the summer crowds? We've got the perfect cruise around Japan at the height of cherry blossom season . Japan cruises are always popular and tend to sell out early, but we've got you covered with an excellent 2025 sailing already available — make sure to take a look before it sells out.

However or whenever you want to travel, there's a trip for you, and the best cruises in 2024 take you to the most incredible destinations. You can travel with celebrities on star-studded holidays , visit lesser-known towns and villages to get a real taste of a location and sail to amazing wildlife destinations.

These are the best cruises for 2024 from some of our favourite companies, including Uniworld and Hurtigruten ...

Venice is a city famous for its water, and a cruise around the Venetian Lagoon reveals more of this romantic and fascinating destination than a hotel city break ever could.

The opportunity to visit Burano isn’t the only reason to pick a cruise in the Venetian Lagoon. Russell will give a special talk and Q&A, sign your complimentary CD, and give an exclusive, intimate concert. You’ll have a chance to explore the highlights of the Lagoon as well, with trips to its islands of Burano, Mazzorbo and Torcello and private visits to Venice's iconic Doge's Palace and St. Mark's Basilica.

Good Housekeeping is offering a 17-day tour of Vietnam and Cambodia, which includes seven nights cruising the Mekong on board the Mekong Jewel - an ornately decorated luxury ship.

You can travel through the Highlands and islands of Scotland to explore the atmospheric Caledonian Canal, the magical islands of Scotland's western shore and hidden sea lochs that are only accessible on the water.

The deluxe Lord of the Glens hosts a maximum of 54 passengers and is one of the best ways to sail the Highlands. Guests stay in outward-facing en-suite cabins and enjoy superb cuisine throughout.

You can experience this ship on an exclusive six-day sailing with Good Housekeeping which will take you along the Caledonian Canal and onwards to Scotland's western shores to visit hidden sea lochs and idyllic islands.

Antarctica - Best cruises

best cruises

Choosing the best Antarctic cruise can seem like a daunting task. It’s an investment of your time and money and likely something you may only do once and remember in exquisite detail. It’s a remote and thrilling part of the world to explore, where 12 million penguins live in the coldest, highest, and driest place on earth.

To get the best out of this bucketlist experience, you need to go with experts who will take care of everything. Hurtigruten expedition cruises have explored Antarctic waters for over 20 years, and their premium ships have been designed so guests can explore the region comfortably.

Good Housekeeping’s Antarctic cruise on MS Fridtjof Nansen has one of the lowest possible CO2 footprints of all expedition ships in Antarctica, thanks to a special hybrid engine on this future-ready vessel.

You’ll depart from Ushuaia, a city nicknamed ‘End of the World’ and head through the icy waters of the Drake Passage, home to the incredible marine life you may have only seen on screen, where the white wonderland envelopes you on an adventure like no other.

The Hebrides - Best cruises

best cruises

For a slightly different kind of island holiday - one that's more about getting out and about in wild, untamed nature and spotting incredible wildlife - try a cruise around the dramatic Hebrides .

These Scottish islands offer rugged coastlines, varied flora and fauna and delicious local whisky to taste at several historic distilleries.

Each island has its own special charms. There's the outstanding wildlife haven of Arran, the Isle of Mull with its brightly painted harbourfront houses, the 'whisky island' of Islay, world-renowned for its peaty single-malts, and the uninhabited Hirta Island, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

If you're interested in exploring the Hebrides, we have an eight-day sailing that will take you to Iona, Eigg, and Skye, as well as many other picture perfect locations on the mainland.

Greece - Best cruises

samos is a greek island in the eastern aegean sea, south of chios, north of patmos

The idyllic Cyclades, a collection of Greek islands in the Aegean Sea, are known and loved for their pretty white-walled houses draped in pink bougainvillea, sandy beaches and bright blue waters.

But there is more to the Cyclades than just sun, sea and sea. These isles have a rich history, shaped by their many past conquerors, including the Minoans, Persians, Byzantines and Romans. You'll see remnants of these cultures in the architecture, from the Monastery of the Apocalypse Patmos to the cliff-clinging monastery of Hozoviotissas on Amorgos.

Discover a range of these intriguing buildings and monuments with Good Housekeeping on a cruise of the Cyclades . As well as the Cyclades you'll also spend time in Athens and Kusadasi, a beach resort in Turkey.

Douro River - Best cruises

best cruises

Anyone wanting to explore the Douro wine region should choose a cruise along the Douro River. This scenic waterway is central to the Portuguese wine trade and is flanked by rolling hills and vineyards, with storybook villages rising from the banks.

The Alto Douro, the name of this wine-producing valley region, holds UNESCO status and is one of the oldest and most renowned wine-making regions in the world.

Good Housekeeping offers an exclusive cruise along the Douro, where you can truly soak in the beauty of this golden valley as you travel.

Whereas some cruises like their passengers to dress in their finest gowns for dinner, A-ROSA ALVA has no such rules. Instead, an eight-day cruise invites its guests to relax on a wine-themed voyage where you'll visit multiple wine estates. Depending on the time of year, you might even get the chance to take part in a traditional grape harvest, including crushing the grapes underfoot in traditional granite troughs.

On a Ganges cruise, you can visit highlights like the Rajbari temple complex in Kalna, the artisan village of Matiari, and the neoclassical Hazarduari Palace in Murshidabad.

Good Housekeeping has a once-in-a-lifetime tour of India , which includes a seven-night cruise down the Ganges. After exploring India's Golden Triangle – including an unforgettable trip to witness both sunrise and sunset over the Taj Mahal – you'll board the luxurious Ganges Voyager II, a spectacular ship adorned with hand-painted murals.

Another highlight of any trip to India is the food, and you'll be joined on board by the Michelin-starred British-Indian chef Atul Kochhar, who'll share his passion for Indian cuisine in a live cooking demonstration.

The Netherlands

Good Housekeeping has a special seven-night springtime cruise , perfectly timed to visit the Netherlands during its vibrant tulip season.

You'll visit the incredible Keukenhof Gardens to witness an astounding seven million flowers covering 80 acres in a riot of colour, where innovative landscaped gardens nestle amongst sparkling lakes, water gardens and blooming shrubs of every hue.

Some special guests will be joining you on this cruise, too. While at sea, you'll enjoy a talk and Q&A with TV gardener Charlie Dimmock, as well as a cocktail masterclass with bar owner and TV bartender Merlin Griffiths.

If you're looking for a sunny Mediterranean cruise you'd do well to consider Croatia and its stylish seaside towns and dozens of sun-kissed islands and islets off the glittering Dalmatian Coast.

With their astounding natural scenery, stylish coastal towns and off-the-beaten-path beaches, Croatia’s islands are wonderful to explore by small ship where you can dock in hard-to-reach corners only accessible by boat.

There mainland has no shortage of attractions either, with bustling cities to be explored too, like Dubrovnik, with its labyrinth of limestone streets and alleyways, palaces, churches, monasteries and picturesque piazzas, and Split, which has a long and varied history and excellent museums.

On Good Housekeeping's Croatian cruise you'll dock in Hvar, Dubrovnik and Split as well as one of Croatia's most beautiful beaches at Zlatni Rat - the Golden Horn - whose distinctive shape has made it an icon of Croatian tourism. You'll also visit the island of Mljet and discover the Mljet National Park with its serene saltwater lakes and verdant pine forests.
