If you are wondering what a bacaro and a bacaro tour are, you are in the right place. And if you already are a pro and are ready to take the leap to a self-guided bacaro tour in Venice, stay with me. 

After traveling to Venice for years and eating a heck of a lot of cicchetti at the most famous bacari in Venice, I have come down to the absolute best self-guided bacaro tour itinerary to follow as a foreign traveler to Venice.

What Is A Bacaro?

So what is a bacaro?

A bacaro, pronounced bah-cah-roh in Italian, is a Venetian bar serving alcoholic beverages and small snacks known as cicchetti .

A bacaro is a place of gathering for Venetians throughout the day to catch up, take a break and dampen their hunger. 

Bacari usually open in the morning and close later in the evening or even late at night, breaking all rules of other Italian eateries , which hold specific hours in relation to eating times .

At a bacaro , Italians will take a break with a small glass of wine known as an ombra and a small nibble known as a cicchetto (or two!). This happens at any time of the day from early in the morning when fishermen are just finishing their daily catch to early into the evening when younger crowds come out for an aperitivo .

The atmosphere of a bacaro is casual while providing an intimate and authentic culinary experience.

Eating cicchetti and drinking wine at bacari is a fast affair, something quick, that perhaps lasts no more than 20 minutes (generally speaking). It can also be like downing an espresso at an Italian bar at the counter – quick and satisfying. 

Spending time at a bacaro as a local can be longer as you linger, bump into comers and goers and not purposefully end up with three glasses of wine instead of one! 

What Is A Bacaro Tour?

A bacaro tour is the idea of making a whole evening of eating cicchetti and drinking by hopping from one bacaro to the next, tasting small nibbles and trying different wines all the while meeting new people, chatting to locals and catching up with old friends. 

Venetians may do this with friends or just do it on their own, making time to chit chat with other locals doing the same. 

Many people compare a bacaro tour to a pub crawl (in fact, some people call it a bacaro crawl), spending the evening trying different venues, foods and wine. In fact, you might even hear a bacaro tour called a bacaro crawl. 

Usually, a bacaro tour will take place over the course of a couple of hours and may include 5-7 bacari . You may or may not travel to different sestieri or districts in Venice, depending on where you are and how comfortable you are with walking longer distances.

So where are you going in Venice on your bacaro tour, you ask? That depends on where you are. 

In my self-guided itinerary below, I have covered ground in San Polo and San Marco, where the best cicchetti bars are. Below are the top neighborhoods to visit with my bacari recommendation should you have time for further exploration of these neighborhoods:

Why Go On A Bacaro Tour?

Taking yourself on a bacaro tour is one of the best ways to experience Venice from a local, authentic perspective. You will find yourself elbow to elbow with Venetian locals, students and international travelers hoping for the same experience.

After visiting the best bacari in Venice and eating the absolute best cicchetti on the Venice food scene, it has remained one of my favorite ways to see the city and share my love for it with my friends and family.

Self-Guided Bacaro Tour Itinerary

Keep in mind that you can really do this bacaro tour at any time of the day, however, you need to be sure you choose a day in which all the bacari are open. 

I suggest you follow my itinerary for a self-guided bacaro tour on either Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, or Saturday. If you go on one of these days, all the bacari I recommend will be open. 

A bacaro tour can be as short or as long as you like but I usually recommend first time travelers to really take their time and make it a whole event. You can either do the bacaro tour all at once or split your cicchetti and wine up with other top attractions and activities in Venice. It’s up to you!

Below, I will outline my two hour bacaro tour with the best places to eat cicchetti in Venice , including 6 bacari in two neighborhoods.

Since we are on a bacaro tour, I suggest you linger a bit at each location but not too long or you will be out all night! Try and enjoy each bacaro for 20-25 minutes or so, whether this means sitting down or eating your cicchetti standing is up to you. 

Map Of Self-Guided Bacaro Tour In Venice

Stop 1: Bacarando Corte dell’Orso

Sestiere di S. Marco, 5495, 30124 Venezia VE, Italy

Open: Daily

Bacarando Corte dell’Orso is one of the most famous bacari in Venice for a wide array of cicchetti with ample indoor seating. 

They have one of the largest selections of cicchetti in all of Venice including classics such as polenta squares with sarde in saor, larger tortini, savory quiches and a wide selection of seafood skewers.  

Order at the counter and bring your cicchetti to one of the large wooden tables in the next room over. If not, choose to eat and drink standing at the counter or outside on one of their benches. 

Tip: For a longer bacaro tour, think about adding SEPA or Osteria Al Portego (one of my favorite places in Venice for after-dinner drinks ) to your tour before heading over to Osteria Bancogiro. Both are right around the corner from Bacarando Corte dell’Orso, making it easy to swing into without going out of your way. 

Stop 2: Osteria Bancogiro

Campo San Giacometto, Ponte di Rialto

Closed: Monday

Osteria Bancogiro, located just off the Rialto Bridge, has one of the best locations in all of Venice with  tables spilling out on the backside onto Campo Erberia.

The cicchetti they serve are more chic and plated with a modern touch. They are well known for their curried shrimp salad and their raw fish selection. 

Eat your cicchetti standing indoors or outdoors or ask if they have a table on their terrace outside to sit down at for a short time. 

Stop 3: Al Mercà

Campo Bella Vienna, 213, 30125 Venezia VE, Italy

Closed: Sunday

Al Mercà is just next door to Osteria Bancogiro next to the Rialto Market , serving up some of the best spritz and cicchetti sandwiches in the area. 

Al Mercà is literally a window on the street with one small bench, catering primarily to locals and nearby fishermen and produce vendors who have just finished their morning at the market (although I have found it to become quite popular with tourists over the years as well). 

Stop 4: Bar All’Arco

S. Polo, 436, 30125 Venezia VE, Italy

Closed: Wednesday

Bar All’Arco is arguably the most famous bacaro in all of Venice with just a few tables lining the walls and standing r oom only indoors. 

The selection of cicchetti is traditional but they are always fresh and worth the wait. Their crostini cicchetti are my favorite in the city. 

If you can, sit down at one of the few tables outdoors. I have never been here when a table was free so here’s to trying! 

Stop 5: Cantina Do Spade

San Polo, 859, 30125 Venezia VE, Italy

Cantina Do Spade is the most famous bacaro in Venice for fried nibbles including their famed fried meatball.  

Cantina Do Spade is a bacaro but also a restaurant, so there isn’t much space to sit down for cicchetti, just three small tables indoors. If these are occupied (they probably will be), quickly eat your fried meatball and €1 bicchierino of wine at the bar standing or outside. 

Stop 6: Acqua E Mais

Campiello dei Meloni, 1411/1412, 30125 Venezia VE

Acqua E Mais is a favorite bacaro for all sorts of Venetians including students, serving up some of the best seafood cicchetti as well as some of the best takeout in Venice and street food .

Acqua E Mais is tiny with no seating. Plan on sipping your wine and eating your seafood skewers and smoked salmon cicchetti on the street with the crowds. 

Planning Tip: If you happen to be on the other side of town and  you want to start your bacaro tour, feel free to reverse the order. It makes no difference!

Tips For Having The Best Experience On A Bacaro Tour

• When ordering wine, ask for a bicchierino , meaning small glass for just a sip of wine. This is different from a full 6 oz glass of wine. Some bacari will serve this size, some will not. 
• Feel free to order a plate of several cicchetti to share, allowing you to sample several different kinds.
• Try the same kind of cicchetto at different bars. This is my favorite way to analyze the bacari and tell which ones I like the best. I usually do this with baccalà mantecato . Every bar does it slightly differently. Which one do you like best?
• Don’t be afraid to ask for cicchetti on a slice of polenta if you don’t want bread. They often can do this for you (great for gluten-free travelers in Venice .
• Don’t feel obliged to finish your wine. If you take yourself on a bacaro tour and visit up to seven different bacari , it may be too much alcohol for you. No one will shame you for not finishing.

Alternatives To A Self-Guided Bacaro Tour

While heading out on a self-guided bacaro tour is easy, I am completely sympathetic with travelers who don’t want to think about getting from place to place, especially if you have been touring all day and your brain has turned to jelly.

One of the best ways to explore Venice as a local, tasting the savory Venetian cicheti (appetisers, in italian "cicchetti") accompanied by the typical ombra di vino (glass of wine), is to have fun going from bacaro to bacaro (a typical Venetian tavern) with your friends, and it is not even expensive at all. The bacaro tour is an alternative and fun way to enjoy the city as a real Venetian.

The Bacaro Tour: discovering the bacari

First of all, what it is a bacaro ? To define it simply as a tavern would be somewhat reductive. A bacaro is a typical Venetian tavern , small in size, characterised by simple and rustic furniture, mainly made of wood, where you can enjoy glasses of wine , ombre in Venetian, or of spritz, accompanied by typical Venetian cicheti , that are small snacks of food ranging from fish balls to small stuffed sandwiches.

All cicheti are usually displayed in a glass case near the bar. But what certainly characterises a typical Venetian bacaro is the cosy and familiar atmosphere, the friendliness of the host and the presence of many Venetians that are taking a relaxing break.

The Bacaro Tour: what do you eat and drink in a bacaro?

Going from bacaro to bacaro certainly means drinking good wine and tasting real delicacies. As it is well known, Veneto is one of the best known Italian regions for the production of its fine wines, and for this reason in Venice you can certainly find excellent wines, even in the bacari , where they usually serve cheaper wines but still DOC (controlled designation of origin) wines. Among the red wines you can find Raboso, Cabernet, Merlot and Bardolino, whereas among the white wines Prosecco, Malvasia, Ribolla Gialla, Soave and Traminer. It is also possible to taste the authentic spritz , a typical Venetian aperitif, made with Prosecco, Aperol or Campari (or both in the case of the spritz misto, mixed), sparkling water or Seltz, a slice of orange and to put the finishing touches the olive. 

Concerning the cicheti , each bacaro offers its own options, so at each stage of your tour you can taste different specialities of the Venetian cuisine , but among the most common ones you can find the sarde in saor (fried fresh sardine fillets marinated in softly cooked white onions), baccalà mantecato (whipped salted cod served on slices of bread or polenta), meatballs, mozzarelle in carrozza (fried mozzarella cheese sandwiches), fried fish, tramezzini  (triangular Italian sandwich constructed from two slices of soft white bread, with the crusts removed) and sandwiches stuffed with cured meats.  

The Bacaro tour: what it is and where you can do it

The Bacaro Tour is the custom of going from bacaro to bacaro , around the sestieri  (districts) of Venice , to enjoy a few glasses of wine or spritz with your friends. Instead of sitting at the same bar for a long time, Venetians prefer performing this itinerant ritual. There is no exact time to go on a bacaro tour, but lunchtime and aperitif time are certainly the two most popular moments of the day. Tourists usually eat a real meal in the bacari , ordering trays of cicheti , but by doing so they miss the true essence of the bacaro tour. 

For those arriving by train at the Santa Lucia station, the first area from where they can begin their tour is the sestiere (district) of Cannaregio , in particular along the Fondamenta   (a street parallel to a canal) dei Ormesini, an area full of bacari . For those arriving instead by car or by bus, you cannot miss the Santa Croce district , an area with well-known bacari, frequented also by young people, especially university students. Another must-go area during your bacaro tour is the sestiere that includes the famous Campo  (square) Santa Margherita, that is Dorsoduro . A final district that deserves to be mentioned is the Castello district , the least tourist area in Venice and therefore full of bacari frequented by locals.

As previously mentioned, the bacaro tour is not expensive at all, the price of a glass of wine ranges from 0.60 cents to 2 euros maximum, while the price of a  cicheto  ranges from 1 to 3 euros . Those who have not yet had the chance to visit Venice will certainly not miss the opportunity to go on a bacaro tour on their first visit, and for those who have already visited it this will certainly be an opportunity to experience the city in a new way.

Self-guided bacaro tour.

Italy has one of the richest food cultures in the world, full stop. This comes as no surprise given how the love of food is infused in every aspect of daily life – w hether you’re gathering with family or taking a stroll with friends, there’s a perfect Italian cuisine moment waiting for you if you know where to look.

Additionally, enjoying local traditions is one of the best ways to make sure you’re getting a truly authentic Italian experience. While this can get trickier and harder to find in the most touristy cities in Italy, it’s never impossible – and Venice isn’t an exception. If you’ve ever wanted to experience the typical tourist must-do’s while still immersing yourself in the soul of the city, a self-guided Bacaro tour in Venice is an absolute must!

In this mini-guide, you’ll find everything you need to know about a Bacaro Tour – what it is, how to do it, Italian words you should know, and my personal recommendations to navigate your way through a seriously delicious dining experience.

A little note before we get going:

As I’ve mentioned before, traveling doesn’t have to cost you an arm and a leg – there are plenty of ways to enjoy an authentic Italian experience on a budget. I’m all about traveling on a realistic budget and knowing what you should splurge on and what you can save on. 

With this in mind, I’m confident your time spent drinking, snacking, and chatting with locals on a self-guided Bacaro tour is well worth an evening in Venice. Although, I don’t think you’ll need much convincing ;).

Now – let’s dive in!

What is a Bacaro?

First thing first – what in the world is a “Bacaro”?!

A Bacaro is a type of traditional Venetian tavern where locals gather after a long day’s work to laugh, relax, and enjoy each other’s company.

It is a rich Venetian tradition passed down from generation to generation where you go from Bacaro to Bacaro (or bar to bar) to get something called “cicchetti” and “ombra.”

Think of it like a pub crawl – just earlier in the evening and filled with more local delicacies and traditions. Twist my arm.

Small by nature, these taverns give you an intimate, front-row seat to local Venetian culture and authentic, no frills cuisine.

As I mentioned above, part of a bacaro tour is indulging in ah-mazing food.

“Cicchetti” are small Venetian snacks, such as “crostini,” which are small pieces of bread with a bunch of different toppings like fish, meat, vegetables, or “polpette” (meatballs made of meat, cheese, or fish). Is your mouth drooling yet because mine is. 

There’s a variety of different crostini at every bar, but one of the most famous Venetian cicchetti flavors is “baccalà mantecato” – whipped salted cod. Even if you aren’t a fish person (I’m not), you should try it. It’s surprisingly delicious!

In addition to varied Italian cuisine, no bacaro tour would be complete without the “ombra” – a small glass of red or white wine.

The best parts about a Bacaro tour

One of the best parts of a self-guided bacaro tour is how affordable it is. You can literally find cicchetti at almost any bar or cafe, and they usually cost anywhere from 1.50€-3€ per piece.  Happy wallet AND happy stomach?! Sign me up. 

A glass of ombra (again, wine) is also very cheap due to the fact that the Veneto region where Venice is located is famous for wines. These usually range somewhere between €0.60-€2 per glass.

If you aren’t a wine fan, you can always opt for an Aperol or “Select” Spritz instead of ombra. In fact, Venice is famous for Spritz, so you shouldn’t expect to pay much more for a spritz in Venice if that’s more your speed.

Another one of the big reasons that I personally love doing a self-guided Bacaro tour is that you can go completely on your own and on your own time – you don’t need to do a guided tour to experience life as the local Venetians do. 

This means if you strike up a conversation with locals at bacaro A, you don’t have to rush off with a tour group to make it to bacaro B at a certain time. Dreams.

It’s traditional to either stand or sit outside of the bacaro and enjoy the company of others while enjoying your snacks. Or you can take it outside and walk around while you snack and head to the next bacaro.

My friend Maddy and I opted to take a gondola ride with our cicchetti and a spritz in hand. I hiiiiighly recommend adding this to your bacaro tour – yes, it’s touristy, but hey, you’re in Venice, and pairing the touristy things with the local traditions gives you the ultimate Venetian experience. 

Simple, delicious, and truly so much fun!

Where to go on your Bacaro tour

After living in Italy for a while and sampling my fair share of bacaro cuisine (it’s quite the sacrifice, I know), I’ve curated my own list of stops to guide you on your way!

What is a bácaro? The bácaro or bacareto is the typical Venetian tavern that offers a wide variety of wines, commonly called ombre or biancheti, and a rich assortment of quick snacks like crostini, small stuffed sandwiches, and fried foods, all grouped under the name cicchetti. An essential part of the bacaro experience is the spritz, a drink made with Aperol, prosecco, and seltz, ideal for aperitivo time or any other time of the day. Additionally, what characterizes the bacaro are the very small spaces (some are no larger than 5 square meters) and the abundant use of wood, generally dark, in the furnishings. All this creates a rustic, informal, yet warm and welcoming atmosphere.

The bacari are the coveted destinations of the so-called bacaro tour, a tour of the city that, instead of aiming for the extraordinary monuments of Venice, focuses on the beloved bacari (which we think could be considered "monuments of interest"). It's impossible to determine the duration of a bacaro tour: it can last from a few hours to an entire day. Osteria bea vita.

Located at the end of Fondamenta degli Ormesini, far from the hordes of tourists crowding Strada Nuova, Osteria Bea Vita offers a genuine taste of Venice's local life. Upon entering, you'll be greeted by a large counter filled with cicchetti and small sandwiches, all kinds of fried foods, meatballs, and calamari. Being a spot much loved by the locals, you'll certainly find some Venetians engaging in a "ciacoea" (chat) with the hosts, and around noon, the place will fill up with workers on their lunch break. The cuisine is simple, authentic, and well-prepared. The atmosphere is rustic and relaxing, allowing you to savor the authentic Venetian experience. The smiles and friendliness of the hosts will make you forget you're in a hurry, and for this reason, it is considered a reliable favorite by Venetians and lovers of good wine and food. The value for money is excellent.

Cantina Vecia Carbonera

It is located at the corner of Rio della Maddalena, near the S. Antonio bridge, along one of the city's most frequented arteries. Once an old coal shop, today it is a typical Venetian osteria, offering a simple, informal, yet truly characteristic atmosphere dominated by dark wood. Cantina Vecia Carbonera features a rich counter with cicchetti, stuffed sandwiches, meatballs, fried calamari, and much more, all to be enjoyed in a simple setting, on wooden tables or outside on the steps of the bridge. A distinctive feature of this bacaro is the small port that opens directly onto the canal, through which goods arriving at the establishment are passed.

Sestiere Castello

Osteria al portego.

Osteria al Portego is located between Campo Santa Marina and Campo San Luca, just a stone's throw from the Rialto Bridge. It is a cozy place, rich in classic cicchetti on slices of bread, fried foods, and freshly made first courses typical of Venetian cuisine. The atmosphere is rustic and friendly, making it one of the favorite spots for Venice's students who feel at home here. Needless to say, during aperitivo hours, the bacaro is always very crowded but also lively and youthful.

Located on the only street in Venice named “via,” specifically Via Garibaldi, El Refolo is just a short walk from the lush garden leading to the Biennale. What sets it apart is the rich variety of products offered, from traditional Venetian food to a wide selection of cured meats and cheeses. Bacareto da lele.

To start your day off right, Bacareto da Lele is a must-visit, especially for those arriving from the bustling Piazzale Roma. It is located next to the Church of Tolentini and is a tiny establishment that accommodates only the counter and the space behind it. Beloved by university students not only for the exceptional quality of the wines but also, and especially, for the fantastic stuffed sandwiches that can be enjoyed on barrels outside, sitting on the steps of the Church of San Nicola da Tolentino, or on the steps that lead directly to the canal. The products are of excellent quality, mostly sourced by the owners from the Venetian countryside.

Hostaria Vecio Biavarol

This bacaro arose from the ashes of an old biavarol (grocery store), retaining not only the name but also the counter where it keeps the cured meats and cheeses used to prepare its dishes. Like all true Venetian bacari, Vecio Biavarol offers a wide assortment of cicchetti, sandwiches, and wines. What sets it apart, however, is its manager Andrea, known as Puppa, and the warm, youthful atmosphere he creates with his personality.

Cantina do spade.

In a somewhat hidden location, in the namesake Calle de le Do Spade, Cantina do Spade is an establishment dating back to the 15th century, and some say it was even frequented by the famous Casanova. Like all Venetian bacari, the spaces are quite limited, and seating is scarce, especially if you’re not dining but just want to “drink an ombra.” However, the small size also contributes to its authenticity as a true Venetian bacaro, with an authentic and genuine flavor. Needless to say, the quality of the food and wine is spectacular.

Osteria ai do Zemei

“Zemei” in Venetian dialect means twins, and it is no coincidence that the place has this name. Franco and Giovanni, the two managers, are indeed two very friendly twins, and the walls of their establishment are literally covered with photos of twins, both of themselves and of visitors or passing tourists. Another characteristic of this place is the showcase full of sandwiches and crostini of all kinds. Despite being located in the usually crowded Ruga del Ravano, it also has outdoor tables. However, be aware of the price because those who sit down pay more.

Sestiere San Marco

Bacaro da fiore.

Bacaro da Fiore is located on a side street of Campo Santo Stefano and should not be confused with a high-end restaurant of the same name. It is both a trattoria and a bacaro loved by many Venetians because it offers fresh and high-quality fish cicchetti every day. The fried fish is exquisite, as are the folpèti (baby octopus) with celery, the sèpe roste (grilled cuttlefish), the sarde in saòr, and the indispensable baccalà mantecato. But, meat lovers, do not despair: the rich counter also offers many delicious meat options.

This bacaro is located in Calle Cavalli, just a few minutes' walk from Rialto. The street is very quiet, making it possible to sit outside at some wooden tables. The establishment boasts two showcases filled with exquisite Venetian delicacies. One display features hot dishes from the trattoria, while the other offers cicchetti for quick consumption, such as small sandwiches with cold cuts and cheeses, fried foods, tramezzini, and crostini with baccalà mantecato.

Not far from Campo San Pantalon and the Ca' Foscari University campus, you'll find this recently opened establishment, modern and well-kept yet genuinely Venetian. This bacaro is characterized by a reading corner with various books on Venetian history, culture, and curiosities, and a door that opens onto a small pier without a railing directly on the Rio de San Pantalon. Here, you can enjoy an excellent spritz or an ombra from an unusual perspective.

Located on Fondamenta dei Nani, this is undoubtedly one of the most charming and evocative bacari in Venice because it offers a spectacular view of the San Trovaso squero, one of the last remaining "shipyards" for Venetian gondolas still in operation. To complete the experience, there is a magnificent counter with cicchetti and stuffed sandwiches, ranging from the classic baccalà mantecato to more imaginative options with truffle pâté or cheese cream. Frequented primarily by young students from the nearby university, it offers the possibility to fill plastic plates and cups and sit on the wall directly overlooking the Rio de San Trovaso.

For me, visiting a bacaro while in Venice is somewhat of a religion.

Let’s be honest, it’s not at all unusual for most visitors to Venice to be busy all day visiting must-see attractions such as St. Mark’s Basilica and the Rialto Bridge.

Not as many people as you’d think take the time to experience some the most authentic parts of Venice. To do that, is there anything better than a bacaro tour?

Doing a bacaro tour in Venice means going bacaro hopping. During the tour, you’ll eat cicchetti (small savoury snacks), a glass of wine or spritz then move to the next!

If you’re in the market for a bacaro tour, or just learning what a bacaro is for the first time today, keep reading this guide to see what I have (literally!) in store for you.

Bacaro tour Venice (self guided)

The Venetian bacaro is a traditional tavern characterised by low ceilings, dim lighting, rustic wooden furniture and deliciously-fresh food prepared right behind the bar.

This is where Venetians gather to enjoy a glass of wine, known as the ‘ombra de vin’, and get some cicchetti—delicious, bite-sized snacks.

There are different theories behind the origin of the name ‘bacaro’.

One says that the word ‘bacaro’ finds its roots from the dialectal expression ‘far bacara’ which means ‘go partying’. Another theory claims that it originates from the cask wine sellers that used to sell wine in St. Mark’s Square that were called ‘bacari’.

Today, as a visitor to Venice you can choose to join a guided bacaro tour led by a local guide or it you want, self-explore the bacari scene at your own pace!

With so much going on in Venice, I decided to create these self-guided bacari maps to give you the best chance to try food and drinks from the best bacari in the city.

I thought they would come very handy to anyone that doesn’t necessarily want to join a food tour but still want to have an authentic experience of the Venice bacaro.

After visiting Venice and its bacari for many years, I wanted to offer a tool (like a map) that allows you to explore the city like a local, taste the best Venetian food and drink and enjoy the lively atmosphere of the bacari featured in each neighbourhood map.

You may have heard about this Venetian word “bacaro” , perhaps in our last blog post about the Venetian aperitif or just surfing the web. “Bacaro” is the term Venetians use for bars, those bars that offer the typical Venetian aperitif with an “ombra” (small glass of wine) and a “cicchetto” (something typical to eat). Venetians love to take a bit of time after work to enjoy the summer vibes near the canal, with a glass of wine or maybe a spritz . We usually stop by 3-4 bars before going home and this is what we call “a bacaro tour”. 1.   Having fun with locals

The very first reason why you should try a Bacaro Tour is that is a way to meet locals and have fun with them. A bacaro is a place where people meet to spend a nice couple of hours together, which is something you might want to do too, during your holiday time.

2. You’ll taste amazing and typical things

We wrote an entire blog post about this subject since the Venetian cuisine is full of these chicchetti. Here are two examples of what you can find and taste. Our favorite cicchetto is the classic half-egg with anchovies, but we don’t dislike a plate of sardines with onions, the so-called “sardele in saor”.

An original way to get to know Venice in all its aspects, food and wine included!

This is a travelling aperitif lasting about 2h , among the most traditional places in Venice : the so called bacari . The latter can only be found in the historic centre of the city and they are an obligatory stop for every Venetian evening.

Our Bacaro tour includes a stopover with an aperitif in 3 bacari . The happy hour includes, for each place, a cicchetto and a glass of wine (for example a glass of prosecco or a spritz).

Cicchetti are snacks with more local flavours, they can be meatballs of tuna or meat, sardines in saor, dried cod on bread or polenta and much more. All this is then accompanied by a glass of wine, usually a spritz. This is an aperitif that takes its name from the German term spritzen, i.e. watering. This is composed of 1/3 white wine, 1/3 sparkling water and 1/3 liqueur.

Our bacaro tour is organized everyday , with departure in front of Venice Santa Lucia Railway Station at 5.00 pm . It lasts between 2/3 hours and it ends at Rialto. There is also the presence of an assistant to discover the hidden corners/tastes of the city.

On request we can develop customized solutions , for example the departure of the tour in different places/time/date.

Our Bacaro tour includes a stopover with an aperitif in 3 bacari . The happy hour includes, for each place , a cicchetto and a glass of wine (for example a glass of prosecco or a spritz).

Il Bacaro e' un locale che ricorda molto le vecchie osterie, senza tanti fronzoli e dove e' possibile mangiare i cicheti veneziani (assaggini prevalentemente di pesce che vengono esposti su lunghi banconi in legno) accompagnati da un'ombra de vin (un bicchiere di vino,sia nero che bianco) oppure da un aperitivo puramente veneto ma oramai internazionale quale lo spritz (per dovere di cronaca,lo

spritz padovano/veneziano e' insuperabile!!!).Ma e' anche un luogo dove passare qualche ora in compagnia, tra bicchieri di vino e risate (senza la paura di perdere la patente!!!!). E si conosce un sacco di gente!!! Insomma andar per Bacari e' una cosa veramente unica da fare almeno una volta nella vita, e soprattutto e' un modo unico e diverso di vedere Venezia . C'e' ne sono a centinaia, soprattutto diffuse e ben dentro Rialto e , dunque realizzare un vero tour e' praticamente impossibile. Il mio e' per lo piu' un elenco di Bacari che si trovano sulla direttrice Stazione Fs / San Marco attraverso la Via Nova (cosi' unirete l'utile al dilettevole!!!). Il miglior periodo e' compreso tra aprile e ottobre (senza pero' dimenticare il periodo di fine carnevale, soprattutto il giovedi' grasso, da non perdere, sia per la moltitudine di gente, sia per le ballate nelle varie piazze!!!). Un ultimo consiglio, se siete in compagnia, create un fondo cassa comune (30 euro a testa dovrebbero bastare) e ovviamente consegnatela a chi tende rimanere piu' sobrio!! Non mi resta che augurarvi buon divertimento...

Partendo da Piazzale Roma attraversiamo il famoso Ponte della Costituzione (o di Calatrava ) e ci dirigiamo verso la stazione FS. Si prosegue ancora senza attraversare il Canal Grande fino ad

arrivare al ponte Delle Guglie, dove inizia la Strada nova. Subito dopo troviamo il primo bacaro, " CICCHETTERIA VENEXIANA DA LUCA E FRED " ( Sestiere Cannareggio Ponte delle Guglie nr 1518 aperto dalle 09.00 alle 23.00 chiuso al martedi info 041716170), ottima cichetteria con buoni vini e ottimi assaggi sia di pesce che di carne, sia cotti che crudi. Lasciato il locale, dopo un centinaio di metri, arriverete ad una ramificazione della calle ,voi prenderete verso sinistra in calle Rio Tera' Farsetti. Dopo aver attraversato il ponte vi troverete in Fondamenta Misericordia, svoltate subito a sinistra e troverete" AL MARINER" ( Fondamenta della Misericordia nr 2679 aperto dalle 07.00 alle 24.00 chiuso la domenica info 041720036). Questa e' un'osteria vecchia, datata 1920 con ottimi cicchetti di carne e pesce, e una buona scelta di vini. Proseguendo, dopo pochi metri, troverete "AL TIMON" ( Fondamenta Ormesini nr 2754 aperto dalle 11.00 alle 16.00 dalle 18.00 alle 01.00 chiuso il mercoledi' mattina info 0415246066) dove si possono assaggiare ottimi cicchetti di salumi e formaggi annaffiate da ottimi vini. Tutto questo si puo' assaporare seduti sul ciglio del canale, oppure su una barca ormeggiata davanti al locale,dove non e' difficile nel periodo estivo, trovare giovani di ogni razza e cultura che improvvisano concerti.

Lasciato il locale torniamo verso il ponte, non lo attraversiamo ma proseguiamo sulla sponda del canale, dove, dopo un centinaio di metri, troviamo il "PARADISO PERDUTO" ( Fondamenta della Misericordi nr 2540 aperto da venerdi a domenica dalle 11.00 alle 00.00, mentre da lunedi e giovedi dalle 19.00 alle 23.00 chiuso il martedi' e mercoledi' info 041720581 mail:[email protected]). Questa e' stata la prima "Osteria Musicale" di Venezia.

Oltre ad una buona musica di vario genere (non tutti i giorni pero'!!) troverete anche i bigoli fatti in casa (e potrete vedere la cuoca in azione!!) varie fritture e polenta,oltre a dell'ottimo pesce. Il locale ha un'ampia sala interna, e molto spazio all'esterno. Lasciato il locale, troverete un ponte, che una volta attraversato sarete in Campo S.Fosca, e da li nuovamente in Strada Nova. Voglio fare una precisazione, prima di entrare sul Campo S.Fosca, troverete sulla destra un locale d'angolo. Questo non e' un bacaro,ma pub,chiamato "IL SANTO BEVITORE " (Campo S.Fosca nr 2393/A aperto da lunedi al venerdi dalle 07.30 alle 01.30 sabato e domenica dalle 09.30 alle 01.30 info 3358415771 mail: [email protected]) pero' e' molto caratteristico ed una vasta scelta di birre, cosi, se magari volete distrarvi un po'!!!

Ma torniamo al nostro tour dei Bacari , dicevamo, una volta arrivati nuovamente in Strada Nova , girate a sinistra e dopo un centinaio di metri, sulla destra troverete "LA CANTINA" (Strada Nuova--San Felice 3689 aperto dalle 10.00 alle 23.00 chiuso il lunedi info 0415228258) un locale molto caratteristico, dove si trovano ottimi cichetti ,del buon vino italiano

un'ottima birra artigianale di nome MORGANA e, se volete, si puo 'fermarsi per un 'ottima cena magari di pesce crudo (pero' in questo caso le 20 euro non bastano,anzi!!!!).Lasciato il locale e poco dopo, prima di attraversare il ponte,svoltate a destra e troverete, dopo un centinaio di metri ,il bacaro

" VINI DA GIGIO" (Fondamenta San Felice 3628A aperto dalle 12.00 alle 22.00 chiuso lunedi e martedi info 0415285140) . un locale molto particolare e accogliente,che,manco a dirlo,ha un'ottima carta dei vini.

Una volta usciti dal locale tornate verso Strada Nova ,attraversate il ponte e poco dopo sulla sinistra vedrete,alla fine di un corto vicolo in Calle del Pistor ,il Bacaro forse piu' vecchio " CA' D'ORO ", ma per i veneziani " ALLA VEDOVA " (Calle del Pistor 3912 aperto dalle 11.00 alle 22.30 chiuso il giovedi info 0415285324) . Qui' si potranno gustare delle ottime polpette di carne ed un fantastico fritto misto. (qui' dovrete armarvi di molta pazienza, in quanto esso e' molto conosciuto).

Poco dopo, sempre sulla sinistra, troverete nella Calle dell'Oca "OSTERIA AL BOMBA" (Calle dell'Oca 4297 chiuso il mercoledi info 0415205175) . E' un locale particolare pieno di scritte sui muri lasciate da ignoti bevitori (una su tutte "CHI BEVE SOLO ACQUA HA UN SEGRETO DA NASCONDERE" che e' diventato lo slogan del locale) dove si possono gustare tra le altre cose, polpette di carne pesce e formaggio, delle verdure fritte e arancini. La carta dei vini comprende sia veneti che friulani.Se volete fermarvi a cena......Bhe forse e' meglio cambiare locale. Nella medesima calle, non molto distante e su una traversa a destra si trova " LA BOTTEGA AI PROMESSI SPOSI" (Calle dell'Oca 4367 aperto dalle 11.30 alle 15.00 e dalle 18.30 alle 23.30 chiuso il lunedi e mercoledi mattina info 0412412747 mail: [email protected]) . Questo amici e'

un'ottimo bacaro, con un locale piccolo ma molto accogliente dove sul bancone in legno fanno capolino delle alici succulente, polpettine in stagione delle ottime sardee in saor (sarde con cipolla) e molto altro, tutto condito da ottimi vini.E' un posto tranquillo, lontano dalla folla e dunque dalla confusione.Poi se volete fermarvi a cena....fatelo pure non ve ne pentirete!!! Usciti dal locale andate a destra e dopo pochi metri incrocerete nuovamente la Strada Nova , girate a sinistra e dopo un centinaio di metri troverete " EL SBARLEFO " (Salizada del Pistor 4556/C aperto dalle 10,00 alle 23.00 tutti i giorni info 0415233084 mail: [email protected]) un piccolo bacaro ma molto accogliente e tranquillo dove sul bancone trovano posto delle ottime polpette di carne e formaggio, degli tramezzini di polenta o delle ottime specialita' di baccala' tutto innaffiato dagli ottimi vini proposti (compreso lo spritz) e dalla simpatia e disponibilita' dei due proprietari, Alessandro ed Andrea. Usciti dal locale si svolta a destra, vi dirigerete verso il ponte di Rialto , dove in prossimita' troverete il " BACARO JAZZ " (San Marco 5546 aperto dalle 16.00 alle 02.00 chiuso il mercoledi info 0415285249 mail: [email protected]) . E' un locale molto particolare dove colpisce i reggiseni posti sul soffitto (doni

lasciati al proprietario da innumerevole turiste!!!!!) mentre i muri sono tappezzati da commenti e disegni lasciati dai clienti. E' anche il ristorante con la cucina che chiude piu' tardi in tutta venezia (dicono loro!!!). Si trova una vastissima scelta di cocktail e bevande varie, mentre di cicheti un po' meno. Si beve e si chiacchera ascoltando e vedendo concerti jazz. E' molto frequentato da turisti .Lasciato il locale ci dirigiamo verso il Ponte di Rialto , e sull'ultima calla a destra prima del ponte troviamo "OSTERIA BLUES BAR ALL'ALBA (Ramo del fontego dei tedeschi 5370 aperto tutti i giorni dalle 09.00 alle 01.00 info 3401245634). Questo locale, nonostante sia vicinissimo al Ponte di Rialto , non e' molto frequentato da turisti, ma e' molto conosciuto dai giovani veneziani che lo frequentano per la musica soul e rock, per gli ottimi panini (alcuni con combinazioni di ingredienti molto insolite!!!) e per il buon vino che ovviamente non manca!!! Nelle pareti interne poi, trovano posto innumerevoli scritte (tra cui quella che ho scritto all'inizio di questa pagina " Ho Bevuto Cosi' Tanto Alla Salute Degli Altri, Che Ho Finito per Perdere La Mia " o ancora " Mai Tornare Indietro, Nemmeno Per Prender La Rincorsa " e potrei continuare per ore!!) lasciate da innumerevoli clienti nel corso degli anni e in molte lingue (ultimamente pero' dato la sovrapposizione di innumerevoli strati di scritture e' comparso un cartello che vieta ulteriori perle di saggezza!!). Ora ci dirigiamo verso il Ponte di Rialto , lo attraversiamo e proseguendo per un centinaio di metri troviamo sulla destra una fontana e sotto i porteghi due bacari vicini, l' " OSTERIA BANCOGIRO " (Campo San Giacometto 122 aperto alla domenica dalle 10.00 alle 13.00 dal martedi al sabato dalle 10.00 alle 23.00 chiuso il lunedi info 0415232061 mail: [email protected]) e " OSTERIA AL PESADOR" (Campo San Giacometto 125/126 aperto dalle 10.30 alle 02.00 chiuso il lunedi info 0415239492 mail: [email protected]) .Cosa dire, entrambi sono ottimi, sia come vini che cicheti, oltre a poter cenare, sia esternamente avendo una suggestiva visione del Canal Grande (tempo permettendo!!!) sia su una sala al secondo piano con uno spettacolare tetto a volta.

Alla fine del portego troviamo Campo Bella Vienna . Questo potrebbe essere la conclusione ideale per il nostro tour, in quanto qui non e' difficile trovare una festa notturna nella piazza, comunque c'e' sempre una moltitudine di gente.

Da non perdere le feste durante il periodo di carnevale.

Nel Campo troverete il " Muro " (Campo Bella Vienna San Polo 222 aperto tutti i giorni dalle 09,00 alle 02,00 info 041 24 12 339 mail [email protected]) un bacaro con una architettura contemporanea, dove però si ritrovano gli elementi classici della gastronomia veneziana, nonchè vaste scelte di cocktail alcolici!!!!

Davanti al Muro troverete il " Barcollo " (Campo Bella Vienna 219 info 041 52 28 158) un bel bar da aperitivi o drink. Proseguendo tra i due locali, per uscire dal campo, dopo un centinaio di metri troverete l' " Antica Osteria Ruga Rialto " (San Polo calle del Sturion 692 info 041 52 11 243) un di quei bacari da veneziani (in quanto fuori dai classici itinerari turistici) dove qualita e prezzo sono ottimi (ha ottenuto il certificato di eccellenza 2013 da tripadvisor!!!!) e, cosa rara per un bacaro, orario di chiusura a tarda notte!!

Inside a bacaro tour: what are the Venetian bacari

The bacaro (also called bacareto ) could be translated as tavern . However, Bacari are not just taverns or bars . They are tiny places, part of the Venetian traditions . Here you can find all kinds of wine, spritz and food ( cicchetti , typically).

Usually there are not many seats inside and people stand outside the bacari drinking their ombre and eating their cicchetti (or cicheti) .

Nowadays, bacari are seen both as a dining place for lunch and as an aperitif place .

Tourists tend to use such establishments to make a full-fledged meal out of it (even a dozen pieces), while Venetians mostly use it as a drinking hangout , and the food is only an accompaniment.

Quick lessons of Venetian dialect: what's a ombra ?

Ombra (or ombre if you are referring to the plural version) means " shadow " in English. Are you asking why?

Because in the past the wine vendors used to sit at the base of St. Mark's bell tower and used to follow its shadow to protect the wine from the sun!

... And why is it called Bacaro?

We are not sure about the origin of this Venetian word.

It could derive from " Bacchus ", the Roman god of Wine . However, "bacaro" could also refer to the Venetian expression " far bàcara ", which means " to have fun ", " to go and have some fun ".

Another hypothesis instead dates back to the late XIX century when the trade of Apulian wines employed to "cut" and strengthen local wines (poor in alcohol) began.

In this case, " Bàcaro" was the hard, dark and bitter wine and the term was used to distinguish this kind of local wine from the "malvasia", a valuable wine coming especially from Greece .

What is a bacaro tour?

We are finally ready to reveal what this great Venetian tradition actually is . In fact, you can't leave Venice without having attended a real bacaro tour!

But what is it practically?

To tell you in simple words, a bacaro tour is the expression we use to describe the tradition we have of "going bacaro after bacaro" .

You can drink excellent wines, as well as home ones, or spritz (like the famous spritz misto with Aperol and Campari) and eat your cicchetto , like polenta, crostini, and everything you like.

Of course not!

Tecnicamente l’utilizzo che i turisti fanno dei cicchetti, ossia mangiarne in quantità tale da pranzare o cenare, non sarebbe corretto.

Venezia da bacaro a bacaro. Tour e mappa per scoprire il meglio in 24 ore

Per fortuna a Venezia sopravvive ancora la tipica osteria, bacaro per l’appunto, in cui non solo si bevono un’ombra o uno Spritz , ma si spiluccano pure dai banconi vetrati i famosi cicchetti.

I cicchetti sono minuscoli sfizi gastronomici da mangiare in quantità. Dai fritti ai crostini di polenta con il baccalà, dai folpeti alla griglia (i polpetti) alle polpette, dalla trippa rissa (bollita) alle sarde in saor.  

Oltre a “cichetar” respirando il meglio della Venezia che fu, si entra in un bacaro anche per “ciacolar”, cioè per aprirsi alla convivialità. 

Con il bicchiere in mano o seduti al bancone, gli avventori socializzano mentre mangiucchiano di tutto. Abitanti e turisti, non fa differenza.

Il miglior bacaro tour in un giorno

Si trovano ottimi bacari in tutti i sestieri (come i veneziani chiamano i quartieri), ma da quando il bacaro tour si è affermato come il giro di street food più economico e figo che si possa fare a Venezia, sono spuntate vecchie osterie come funghi.

Oggi, chi vuole concentrare in 24 ore un giro per bacari che restituisca il vero sapore di Venezia deve seguire una mappa precisa. Per non perdere tempo e per evitare locali finto-tipici dove si muovono più turisti che veneziani autentici. 

È proprio ciò che trovate di seguito, suggerito da Mirko Pavan, guru del gruppo Facebook “ Bacaro Tour ”.

Avvertenza. In questo viaggio concentrato nel cuore gastronomico della città mangiate e bevete parecchio. 

Ma non finite al Pronto Soccorso perché smaltite anche, camminando (a proposito, oltre ai prezzi, abbiamo indicato le distanze tra una tappa e l’altra del tour oltre ai tempi necessari per percorrerle)

In compenso vi aspetta una giornata di quelle che non si dimenticano, di questo siamo sicuri.

Al Parlamento

Cannaregio – Fondamenta Savorgnan, 511 – Venezia

Più che un vero bacaro è un bar spazioso e molto accogliente, il più elegante di questa zona di Venezia, a 600 metri (8 minuti a piedi) dalla stazione di Santa Lucia. 

Attraversate il ponte di Calatrava, prendete la Lista di Spagna e dopo il Ponte delle Guglie svoltate a sinistra. 

Vi accolgono mobili in legno chiaro e lunghe gomene appese al soffitto per dare un tocco marittimo al locale. 

Snack, cicchetti e cocktail sono ottimi, con tavoli accanto al Canale di Cannaregio e musica dal vivo. 

Ma voi siete qui per stuzzicare l’appetito con lo spritz d’apertura del vostro tour. Chiedete ad Alberto. 

Prezzi : sono buoni. Quando arrivano i turisti, spaventati dalle epiche sole affibbiate agli stranieri da più di un ristoratore, restano piacevolmente meravigliati.

Cicchetteria veneziana da Luca e Fred

Rio Terà San Leonardo, Cannaregio, 1518 – Venezia

Tornando indietro, attraversate di nuovo il Ponte delle Guglie e prendete la Strada Nova. 

Camminate per 300 metri (4 minuti) ed eccovi davanti a una gloriosa e fantastica cicchetteria che serve ottimi spuntini e pasti semplici a una clientela regolare. 

Ci sono pochi tavoli dentro, quindi se volete mangiare qui nel periodo di Carnevale mettete in conto un po’ di fila. Oppure, come fanno molti, sedetevi fuori e guardate il via vai. 

Ovviamente gustando fino all’ultimo morso la mozzarella in carrozza orgoglio del bacaro, una delle due migliori di Venezia (tranquilli, proverete anche l’altra).

Prezzi . Cicchetti e paninetti costano 2 € in media, le ombre partono da 1,50 €. Potete ordinare il menu a prezzo fisso oppure le pietanze della carta a 10/15 € l’una.  

La Vedova, venerabile bacaro di Venezia

Osteria Ca’ d’Oro alla Vedova

Cannaregio – Strada Nova, 3912 – Venezia

Proseguite sulla Strada Nova, e in 10 minuti (800 metri) arrivate alla “Vedova” dopo aver strabuzzato gli occhi rimirando la Ca’ d’Oro, uno degli edifici più belli della città. 

“Le migliori polpette di Venezia”, sentirete dire dai fan della venerabile Vedova. Basta questo per spiegare che la sosta è obbligatoria in qualsiasi bacaro tour di Venezia. 

Le polpette sono sempre calde, croccanti e anche senza glutine perché fatte con la polenta. Poi ci sono i cicchetti che straripano dal bancone. 

Ca’ d’Oro è anche a tutti gli effetti una trattoria, dove si cena in salette deliziose con uno dei migliori rapporti qualità prezzo di tutta la Serenissima. 

Ma prenotate in anticipo, perché non è un segreto né per i veneziani né per i viaggiatori che cercano piatti tradizionali a un costo ragionevole. 

Ah, le polpette sono effettivamente le migliori di Venezia. Però non esagerate, siete solo alla terza tappa del vostro tour.

Prezzi : una polpetta di queste a meno di 2 € è vero lusso a buon mercato. Per un pasto si resta entro i 20 € di spesa a testa.  

Bar Tiziano

Salizada San Giovanni Grisostomo, 5747 – Venezia

La tappa successiva dista solo 400 metri (5 minuti). Ripresa la Strada Nova svoltate in Campo S.S. Apostoli e in breve arrivate in Campo San Lio e al Bar Tiziano. 

La cicchetteria è sacra in qualunque bacaro di Venezia, ma cosa dire dei tramezzini, altro classico spuntino dei lagunari? E cosa dire di questi tramezzini!

Che sono tanti, un muro in pratica, con ennemila robuste farciture, preda dell’appetito di molti veneziani e di qualche turista sorpreso di spendere così poco a due passi dal ponte di Rialto. 

Se li trovate non perdete il tramezzino granchio e uova, ma anche la versione soppressa e funghi non scherza). 

L’aperitivo è uno spettacolo anche per la sbalorditiva capienza dei bicchieri in cui vi servono lo Spritz. 

Prezzi . Tramezzini del genere a meno di 2 € se consumati al banco e meno di 3 € al tavolo, ma quando vi ricapitano. La colazione non è tra le migliori di Venezia ma si apprezza, e costa 7-8 €.

Sfida della mozzarella in carrozza

Calle della Bissa, Venezia 

Bastano 170 metri (2 minuti) in direzione di Rialto, di Campo San Bartolomeo e del monumento a Carlo Goldoni per approdare prima in Calle della Bissa poi da Gislon.

È da sempre chiamata così la famosa Rosticceria San Bartolomeo, ambientata in una cantina degli anni ‘30. 

Al banco mozzarelle in carrozza, fritti e piatti pronti. Dalla cucina invece primi e secondi. Tutto anche da asporto. 

Non propriamente un bacaro, ma un posto economico che ricorda quando Venezia aveva una vita urbana più intensa, fatta anche di pasti veloci, in centro e a pochi soldi. 

La mozzarella in carrozza, specie la versione con l’acciuga, se la batte con quella di Luca e Fred per il titolo di migliore della città (ricordate?). 

L’alternativa sarebbe qualche forchettata di spaghetti ai caparozzoli (vongole veraci). Ma per un pranzo seduto è ancora presto. 

Prezzi . Le mozzarelle in carrozza costano 1,50 € al pezzo. Gli altri stuzzichini oscillano tra 2 e 4 €. Disponibili anche i piatti del self-service, quasi tutti a base di pesce. In tutti i casi non superate i 20 €.  

Ostaria al Diavolo e l’Aguasanta

San Polo – Calle della Madonna, 561/b – Venezia

350 metri e 5 minuti dopo, oltrepassato il Ponte di Rialto siete arrivati al Diavolo e l’Aquasanta. 

Una bella, antica, grande sala tutta colma di vecchie cose, occupata dai tavoli dei desinanti e con al fondo un lungo banco su cui fa mostra di sé un’enorme, vaporosa pentola sotto la quale ribollono testina, musetto e nervi. 

Dite a Nicola che volete mettervi “coe gambe soto a tola” (con le gambe sotto il tavolo), cioè volete pranzare, e non preoccupatevi troppo per il conto. Il rapporto qualità prezzo è impensabile per la Serenissima. 

Si sta bene anche al banco: come un vero bacaro di Venezia il bancone propone di cicchettare fin dal mattino con polpette di carne e di pesce, folpeti, seppie in nero e baccalà. 

Prezzi . Cicchetti e ombre tra 1,50 e 3 €. Antipasti 7/10 €, primi e secondi tra 10 e 14 €, un litro di vino 8 €. La tariffa applicata per il servizio può superare il 10%.

A questo punto, anche se siete dotati di appetito robusto, smettete di mangiare. Cicchettare oltre potrebbe esporvi al rischio esplosione. 

Non per il resto della giornata, il tempo di smaltire la “bacarata” con una passeggiata. L’occasione giusta per vedere un museo, entrare in una chiesa, perdervi in una calle o in un campiello misterioso.

Cena a Venezia: ancora bacaro?  

Paradiso perduto

Cannaregio, Fondamenta della Misericordia, 2540 

Dopo una giornata passata tra spritz e baccalà, bianchetti e polpette, mozzarelle in carrozza e sarde in saor, magari volete mangiare altro. 

Trovate ciò che cercate al Paradiso perduto, un’istituzione sulla scena veneziana dagli anni Ottanta, affollato tutte le sere.

È un posto ideale anche per una birra fredda da sorseggiare accanto al canale mangiando cicchetti in una calda serata estiva. Ma l’atmosfera ai tavoli del ristorante di solito è eccezionale. 

Comunque, al Paradiso perduto si va anche per la musica dal vivo, con enfasi su blues e jazz. Nomi passati qui negli ultimi anni: Vinicio Capossela, il jazzista Massimo Urbani e Keith Richards. 

Prezzi. L’antipasto di pesce costa 14 €, come un piatto di bigoli alla veneziana. Per una grigliata di pesce spendete 29 €.
